Let me please express my displeasure about this map. It’s a jumping puzzle, and I hate jumping puzzles. I hate the fact that story line material is taking place in a jumping puzzle.
They used to be optional material, and again, many of us simply can’t do this kitten. We need help, and I mean a LOT of help to move around this map. That takes a LOT of the fun out of the whole game.
Almost 100% AoE had me going…. wtf? But I made my way through it, downed twice with a WvW Mesmer build, self rezz once because I picked a target before going down.
To be honest the whole party scene was far more annoying for me.
I’m with the OP. This was a scripted event where my character was used to push Taimi to give up her invention. This is the perfect spot where player decisions can be used to push the story forward. Well, if it’s a personal story….
LS2 isn’t a personal story at all. It’s a scripted event.

This wasn’t thought through at all. It isn’t back dated, and I’m sure there will be an uproar from the people who have bought commander tags for multiple characters.
At least it’s not tooltips this time.
Is their any class beside mesmer that has problems leveling???
Ele starts out pretty squishy, but once you get a few utility skills and traits opened it gets a lot better. Mesmer has to wait a lot longer for the Deceptive Evasion trait.
I wonder what would happen if we turned this into a match-up thread.. would it be closed then?
I gotta say, we on Ring of Fire are sure getting tired of our craptastic matchups. Yet again we’re paired up with servers much higher than we are, while the two servers below us are much closer points wise.
But, I suppose we could make a video of this, showing the stale fixed matches that repeat week after week.
(Ok, let’s see if that works)
You are not using your time efficiently…. (snip)
….If you had pve’d like I do, you probably could have made all this easily too.
Son, this is a game. If you want to “use your time efficiently”, turn the game off and go do something useful.
And if you really enjoy playing against a brain dead AI, with a group of brain dead players who insist that there is only one useful build, well…. Enjoy yourself, but that’s not for me.
Now of course someone who hasn’t read this thread is going to come along and try to tell me that I don’t deserve a Legendary because I’m not willing “to do the work”.
Excuse me? I have over 7k hours in game. I’m hardly a casual player.
You and I used to play on RoF together, a whole lot of WvW.
I guess you’ve forgotten that?
You know what this tells me … you can’t even earn an average of 50s per hour of play (=3500 g for your 7K hours of play) to get a legendary. What are you doing with your time?
What made you think I don’t have one? I never said that.
I have Dawn on my mesmer. I also have ascended weapons on most of my characters, most of them with reasonably rare skins from the forge. I have ascended armor on one character, all crafts maxed and 15k achieve points. I play this game a LOT, but mostly WvW which is no way to get rich in this game.

It’s so pleasant watching these prices run away faster than any normal player can earn game gold.
Would anyone like to start a pool/bet as what the price will be say, Christmas?
I’ll boldly predict 2k gold.
You know that ramp from the cannon to the oil pot? Yup, dead again on that ramp.
Hey Aidan, would you like a video of that?
Bar Brawl anyone?
That makes me sad.
Do they feel no shame?
None whatsoever. They really have no understanding of the community mood these days. Hopefully this thread will be a bit of a wake up call for them.
5 Gifts of the Precursor (each of which will cost 100 Laurels)
500 days per precursor? I can hardly wait to watch the rage!
I thought the “rage” was because “there is no guaranteed way to get one”?
The current situation is more like, “no longer interested to play this game, because I cannot obtain the item I want, without spending a rather large amount real world money”.
Oh go ahead, put a 500 day time limit on that precursor. You will see what rage is.

Oh look, 2 lottery tickets for the price of one!
Err, no thanks.
Err….not quite an accurate analogy. Lottery ticket = BL key and they are NOT selling 2 BL keys for the price of one (that MIGHT make me consider opening up my wallet).
I absolutely will not buy RNG coin mall items. I don’t even use the mystic toilet for RNG.
I have 6 characters and every single one of them has 100% WvW map completion. Only one of those characters has 100% map completion.
I am insulted that I have to complete dungeons that I hate, and repeatedly, just to get a Legendary.
Oh look, 2 lottery tickets for the price of one!
Err, no thanks.
I’m sure glad you’re not a game dev. Or, are you?
I don’t need to be a game dev to ensure that ‘hardcore’ gamers don’t get BiS gear because they can’t handle the game. Anet already does a good job.
[/quote]
As I’ve said, a good two-thirds of my guild is missing in action. Good Job!
Where ever a community of Canadians exist. I can order Poutine in the Cayman Islands.
I think there are those players that are obsessed (maybe “highly focused” is a better choice of words) with obtaining a Legendary Weapon and those that don’t even think about them (until a Precursor drops).
There is a third type. I like to think of them as diligent types who are willing to play the game, save, salvage, explore maps, run dungeons and just generally enjoy the game. All the way they can be working on a Legendary, but then they get slapped with that RNG bug in the game. The Mystic Toilet.
Those diligent people have other choices of course. They can find the gold in game, or buy that gold with real money. Neither of those choices is palatable to those diligent types.
I like to think that I am one of those types and I want a known way to obtain a precursor that does not rely on RNG, my luck or anyone else good luck. It should not be up to me to reward someone else for their good luck.
That article doesn’t have any insight to anything wrong with GW2. It’s more a self-loathing commentary on how someone didn’t live up to their own expectations as a ‘hardcore’ gamer.
I’m sure glad you’re not a game dev. Or, are you?
(edited by Herr der Friedhoefe.2490)
We’re talking at least 500 Laurels.
Yet another 1.5 years to craft a percursor? Let the rage-quits begin!
Poutine = Heart Attack on a Plate, but it’s so hard to resist.
Like a lot of us I recently put my mesmer away and tried a couple of other classes. I could not be happier with my thief. I will go so far as to say that anything a mesmer can do (except portal obviously), a thief can do better.
The variety of builds available is pure joy. I can go noob perma stealth, condi or power, and there are possibilities for lockdown that must drive warriors nuts.
The combination of stealth up time and mobility means my survivability on my thief is almost troll level. I can actually outrun most zergs. I should have made this change sooner, rather than put up with all the nerfs and bugs in the mesmer class.
I think Anet should take this issue fairly seriously, particularly in light another reddit thread, http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2crfc3/the_death_of_my_guild_of_2_years_and_the_theme_i/
My guild is in the same condition that the reddit OP describes. Two-thirds have not been seen in months. Living Story is not working to bring players back to the game, or at best they log in for the down load, and then leave. We have a small number haven’t been seen since that last patch.
In short, players aren’t getting the rewards they want from this game, so they’ve left.
And I understand the argument of this woman (whose page is down btw): you don’t have this kitten in subscription based games.
The article is still there on the Massively site. It’s just the link from here that is broken.
It’s funny seeing you people put this article down, because I read it and found myself nodding my head to a lot of it.
Putting it down because the perspective of a hardcore, experienced MMO player would NOT be to QQ about how hard it is to get a legendary …
Old dead games should be left to rot in their well deserved graves.
It’s funny seeing you people put this article down, because I read it and found myself nodding my head to a lot of it.
Like, “yeah, I know that feeling”. “Yup, that’s what I saw too”. “Hey, if I was willing to pay a sub fee for a game, yeah I would be going there too”…. and much more. That article was spot on, and a nice fresh change from the sort of material that Massively usually puts out.
This game was marketed as a no-grind game (because Anet doesn’t make grindy games), with horizontal progression for cosmetic rewards as end game. I bought into that hype and I’m not at all happy with the direction this game has taken since then. Everything, absolutely everything has gotten more grind as time goes by, and we’re still stuck with either RNG your mats away to obtain a precursor, pull out your credit card, or grind your face off.
If anything I’m surprised it has taken this long for this sort of article to be written, but then, most of the online gaming websites depend on access to the developers and publishers for their material and they don’t want to offend the source of their material.
But, but… Anet doesn’t make grindy games.
Man, if I knew then what I know now….
Ring of Fire is losing for about the 6th week in a row and we can’t get out of this tier. We’re actually going points this week.
I mostly play WvW and at the moment I’m wearing exotic Carrion armor with krait runes. I had exotic Rabid trinkets and a back piece, and for traits I’m running total cheese; 0/0/6/6/2. Pizza and toxic crystals, P/D and shortbow with Agony and Corruption sigils.
Yes, I’m a cheese eater, but it works.
A few days ago I had a bit of a wake up moment when I realized I had a set of ascended Celestial trinkets and back piece on a character I’m not playing these days. I looked at the stats and if exotic Rabid is good, then ascended Celestial is obviously better and fills in all the other stats.
I went from feeling pretty bloody good, to feeling like Superman and now I’m thinking about upgrading my armor to ascended Celestial as well.
I could make ascended Dire, Carrion, or Celestial but I only want to make one set.
Decisions, decisions. Any thoughts?
I use Krait. Pretty straight forward choice and they’re cheap.
only a wvw player thinks eotm is
pvePVD gone wild
FTFY
Nice idea, but….
NCSoft would rather sell you a “Royal Pass” or an “Airship Pass”.
I don’t recall anyone ever asking for a back piece skin that looks like a wart grew out of your back. I hope it doesn’t start dripping green goop on your backside.
On the other hand, I seem to recall a lot of people asking for capes.
It wasn’t over correction as the game’s economist said it was on purpose.
Yes it was an over correction, and yes the game economist said the over correction was on purpose. The extreme requirements for that one item has given value to quite a number of items, including karma.
I expect we’ll see more of this thinking even if we don’t like it much, and that’s why we’re seeing more and more account bound crafting lately. That sucks too.
Dyes from cooking could easily reach Exotic level with another ingredient, completely in line with the current system. The rest of the cooking foods only give master level foods as shared Pots, Plates, Trays, or Baskets of Breads. The recipes for the shared foods come from the m.toilet. This could easily be expanded upon.
As for Jewelry, I would actually expect that the “unloved stat combos” should be craftable for Ascended trinks. Boon duration Giver’s stuff and others.
Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew. Thief with Shortbow 3 evade.
Just saying.
If you behave exactly like a bot (which based on my observation from farming trees) which about 99% of the farmers do, is it really that weird that you get handled like a bot?
So it’s the player’s fault. Of course!
…. and he’ll be here daily to remind us that.
Inside every crafting table, there’s free access to your bank, collectibles and wardrobe storage. However, around most crafting benches, a pure banking dude, is located.
You haven’t been in Hoelbrak, have you?
That map is a PITA for banking, guild banking, crafting and trading post.
I’m talking about Jewelry and Cooking crafting to 500.
I can’t even imagine what the hold up is, and of course we never get Dev’s in this forum.
(edited by Herr der Friedhoefe.2490)
Well, you have armor, weapons with your Guild emblem on them already – why do we need capes?
We don’t need them. We want them. I have several characters who would look good in a cape. None of them would look good in a flower pot.
Honestly, the number of times players have asked for capes, you would think NCSoft would step in to provide some direction. After all, when did anyone ever ask for a flower pot on their back?
Why is everyone making fun of Tooltips?
Tooltips need love too!
Thank you Dulfy. You just saved me from wasting a whole bunch of time on an ugly exotic back piece that I simply do not need.
They’ve never manually adjusted them before….
Actually they have. There have been a couple situations with the server ranks in T9 being in an unbreakable situation, due to the madness of the ranking arithmetic. Anet manually juiced the scores of a couple of the lowest ranked servers in order to break up the situation, and it worked.
Ring of Fire, Arborstone and Drakkar Lake are currently in a similar situation. We’ve been fighting one or the other, or both at the same time for several weeks now. Unfortunately, we on RoF have far too much pride to simply lay down our weapons and sandbag our way out of the situation.
Enjoy your arguments. I think I’ll go enjoy some music.
… and playing music is such an advantage?
First World MMO Problems.
And every time someone asks the given question, there’s someone trying to justify Arena Net.
And it’s pretty much always that one guy.
