Well first of all you should try to work toughness and power over 1800. Crit chance should be about 35-40. You can compensate that with sigils later. Vitality is not a problem. For support staff is great and it also lets you tag many mobs in orr=loads of moldet bags. Greatsword could be your main weapon but you can decide that yourself. Mace would be your best healing weapon but still you should have almost every weapon in you inventory because they are mostly situational.
Usually guardians go 0,0,30,30,10 or 0,5,30,30,5 but this also can be changed if you want more damage or support. Virtues trait line will offer you greater support and longer boon duration so you should invest here as well. 5 in virtues is a MUST. Use monks focus for solo play and AH for group play. Empowering might is great if combined with AH and decent crit chance.
Knights gear is a solid choice for damage, precision and survivability. You can also choose clerics for healing and also mix them up.
Dolyak runes are expensive but give you both vitality, toughness and regeneration. Personally I use knights gear with dolyaks.
Too much healing power is not good tho because your main source of support comes from long duration boons, wards and projectile reflections. Wall of reflection is very useful in fractals. Same with shield of avenger. Also don’t forget your virtues. Those are awesome and if you have 15 in radiance and 5 in virtues and empowering might, you can give your party A LOT of might which is always desired.
I hope this helped a bit. x)
You don’t have to decide it right now. You can re-trait all you want and only for 3 silvers. Just get what you feel like getting right now. Gear only becomes important when you hit 80 so my answer applies here as well.
Also re-traiting is free in pvp and the traits are independent from wvw/pve. Same thing with gear.
Only thing they need to do is make sceptor projectile homing or at the very least increase the projectile speed by 50%+.
Agreed. Scepters damage is actually insanely high. Have you actually checked how much smite hits if you have decent critical chance? Put 10 in zeal and 30 in radiance and you WILL kitten bricks. x)
I stand at the gate.
3 necromances my way.
Where is my team? Oh! Where is my team?
Scepter/focus is your best kiting weapon pair. Combine with hammer and you are golden.
Being completely honest: having a 5 months lasting living story where it only gets worth playing at the 4th update is not a good thing. I find myself neglecting all these refugees and my compassion towards them is a round 0.
The cut-scenes were a great add and I hope we can see more of them in future expansions.
Also, this games lore has drifted maybe a bit too far from gw1. I understand they try to be original with this game but do notice the number 2 at the end of the title.
Bring us new continents, interesting/immersing lore and some bad kitten bosses that have a real story behind them. We know almost nothing about most of the bosses in this game. (except Zhaitan and I’m not even gonna go there). Some story dungeons are done well but people tend to skip them as you can enter exploreable mode without completing story mode. I noticed they tried to fix this by implementing story dungeons into dailies but let’s be honest, everybody visits a laurel vendor or kills fish rather than bother with finding a party and entering a story dungeon where you don’t even get tokens from.
This games lore suffers from major lack of built up boss encounters. I’m fearing that this living storys last boss is just a machine you have to destroy while portals spawn random mobs all the time.
I just have to comment since this feels like such a weird topic. First of all yes, privacy is important, no matter where you are. I also agree that you should have to accept the friend request before they can actually see you.
Still, all this brings up a question: WHO and WHY would anyone actually “stalk” you in-game to that extent where you start to feel uncomfortable. If it’s some bitter brat who you kicked out of a party because he was slowing you and your partys progress, you could just easily report him. Or is it some other in-game drama, which I honestly don’t understand anyways.

I personally prefer soldier runes: hhouts remove conditions. I also put 20 in virtues so that virtue of resolve is stronger and heals 3 conditions.
How many times has this been explained already…? Fixing culling in PVE is alot more difficult because they have to take all the NPCs and monster into consideration. The fact that they were to able to fix it in wvw is already amazing.
*An asura walked into a bar and ordered a drink.
Bartender: That would be 5 silvers.
The asura: Put it in my tab. I’m a little short.
*What does sylvaris backbag say when it’s full?
-You are over cucumbered
*A jotun enters hoelbrak. Suddenly a giant explosion-like sound sweeps trough the city.
Jotun: HELP!
Norn #1: What in the bears name was that!? Are you all right?
Jotun: Ye me okay but I think I might have chipped a tooth.

As a guardian, it troubles me to inform you that mesmers are more seeked after in dungeons (at least in COF). They are pretty equal in usefulness in WvW but in general guardians might be a bit more useful in PVE because of their support abilities and high sustained damage.
In terms of PVP, mesmer might take the cake but it depends completely on their builds and skills. Mesmer also has higher burst damage but guardian can sustain high damage longer and thus deal more damage against bosses.
And serious versions for mace, pistol, shortbow and scepter.
Virtue of resolve….bad? Oh you poor child.
You can trait it to cure 3 conditions, have more effective passive healing, have it affect allies and with altruistic healing it becomes like a second healing skill. If you have only 5 points in virtues (which everybody should have) it also gives regeneration.
Does this skill not always work for some of you guys either? Sometimes when i place it the symbol on the ground it doesn’t give me swiftness at all.
You just happen to cross it between pulses. It should pulse more frequently and they might fix it in future but for now, just stop at the symbol for like 0,1 second so that the effect can kick off.
Guardians have so many viable builds. You can blink, leap and bind your opponent and use wards, domes and projectile reflections which are very wanted in WvW and such.
Mesmer is a hard class to master so personally I would recommend guardian for starters.
Welcome Jemi. I hope you enjoy your time in game. Remember to explore and have a good time. There are lots of secret locations and treasures in every map so don’t just rush trough map completion after another. Check the orange box in the right top corner when it appears. It will lead you to that maps end boss and many of them are VERY impressive. Don’t be shy about asking for advice. People in general are very helpful.
Also don’t bother with builds yet and do what feels the most fun. Gear and traits are semi-irrelevant until you hit 80.
If you feel like you need advice at some point, feel free to whisper me if I happen to be online at the time. Have a good time!
Wait, what?
I’m a bit confused here. Is that your Guardian that did the damage or a Warrior in your party?
You can’t see other peoples damage…
That number is very real. Note that the mob has 25 stacks of vunerability and he has full stack of might and fury. He is also using GS whirling wrath and is most likely quite strongly specced for DPS. Then there are the banners and food buff.
Try to see how much you can do solo instead of bragging with your numbers in optimal situation.

Speed? Who needs speed when we have CC, blinks and leaps? If you wanna explore then staff, Save yourself and retreat with some boon duration food and superiour aria.
Again this is completely dependable on your build. If you rely on vigor generation, empowering might and other critical dependent skills, go for prec. Personally I have 39% crit chance and 1920 power. I’m pretty happy with it since you will also gain fury from SY. That’s +20% more.
So you have never encountered a bit more experienced thief before? That is a normal thief and if played right, they can survive really well with smart stealthing. You got outplayed. Simple as that.
I personally like all the races. They did really well with the sylvari too. They were more elf-looking before release but they changed them to what they are now and I couldn’t be happier that they did. If you want to play an elf then go play some other game.
The thing is, many melee classes can engage close combat with rangers very easily (leaps, blinks and pulls). That is when ranger starts dodging and melee classes can just swing their weapons. Also don’t forget CC.
1+. We need more dungeons like this.
It’s April’s fool day. It’s supposed to be ridiculous.
On topic: I loved the dungeon! It was exciting and one of the most fun things in gw2 by far. They should use these same ideas on regular dungeons. More jumping and harder battles!
The battle with the Toad wasn’t “hard” but it did require some thinking, something other bosses do not…
Hard as in hard for unorganized PUGs. I had done it before and explained it to my party but it still took a lot of deaths and mistakes from their part to get the hang of it.

Use the ideas here to real game content. I loved it!
Flame shaman is one of the best bosses. Decently challenging and requires skill, effective dodging and team-work.
This is a problem. I know you have to get in a party to actually GAIN the experience but inexperienced players will bring the party down, wasting time and money. To all you little beginners: READ THE DUNGEON GUIDE BEFORE ATTENDING.
Inexperienced players are also the reason this game doesn’t have any elite/ genuinely hard content because these players will start whining that it’s too hard. The game should encourage people to polish their skills and master their own classes. That is when you will start gaining feeling of accomplishment when you finish something really hard and get rewarded accordingly.
I am not crying, I have a legitimate question…actually two legitimate questions and legitimate questions are part of customer service:
1) why is this not in game?
2) why is there zero official comments about this issue?Since launch I can not find Anet responses to this as yet. Maybe I missed a response somewhere but it seems to me that Anet is purposefully avoiding to address the issue and as thus I am going to keep asking the question until it is answered as I refuse to spend huge amounts of time in a game simply waiting to get into a dungeon.
Also new players need to be made aware that the game lacks a tool to easily get them into content and that they have to use a third party website to run dungeons
The game hasn’t been out all that long and they’ve got more important stuff to work on like future content, balancing, lag problems etc. This issues has been brought up DOZENS of times and I’m sure they are well aware of it.
They just don’t see it as a priority since everybody is already using gw2lfg.com and are quite happy with it. The information spreads between people attending dungeons and thus everybody learns of it. The community is what makes a game good.
Don’t waste your time trying to beat a dead horse.
Ranger is FAR easier to play.
3×80s, and I still cannot play Elementalists because they are frustratingly weak.
I think I peed a little. Elementalists weak? They are the most versatile class in the game and can do ANYTHING and they can do it well.
Hello. I happened noticed while strolling the TP that a SWORD named “elder quarterstaff” happens to have the skin of a destroyer torch.
Would cause some hilarious moments if some one were to dual wield this weapon but as a member of this community. I felt like reporting it.

Full MF set, MF food and communal boost. For two days have I not been finding any charged ones either. That’s 4 hours. Once I found one after 12 minutes of farming.
The iron rule of farming lodestones is: Stop when you find one.
Addicted and proud of it.
So you bought GW 2 and felt entitled to start completing the map after one another? Ye it may turn boring if you just mindlessly do the the skill points and vistas etc. Try to pay notice to the environment. There alot of stuff you are going to miss if you just run around doing map completion.
Also I don’t understand what you mean by saying “things you have to do”. You don’t have to do anything. You can just sit in Lions Arch all day. That’s your decision.
Try different classes, google information of the map you are in and find interesting stuff to explore. Some maps even have mini-dungeons and jumping puzzles.

My gripe is, right now im recruiting for a guild that im in, on Seafarers Rest. And while I will post on /map the usual recruitment type posts I will also whisper anyone I see thats not in a guild. And I would say that on average out of every 20 people that I whisper around 18-19 people wont even reply to the whisper.
Even a no thanks I would be happy with, but I just think that people cant even take 2 seconds to write a reply as extremely rude.
I’m one that plays without a guild. I do so because my primary reason for joining a guild in the past has always been to raid. The social aspects follow naturally when there’s a common goal. .
I joined Cry Havoc with my friend and I couldn’t imagine a better guild. Guilds aren’t only there for raids and stuff but for advices, chatting and other common events like guild missions, dungeons, WvW and exploring.
To OP: I was being invited to dozens of guilds but I didn’t accept because I wanted to be in the same guild as my friend. Plus I wanted a guild that was organized, semi large and friendly.
I checked CHs forums and before that met many people from there and in the end when my friend got accepted in, I applied as well.
Many don’t want to join random guilds because they assume they are just an unorganized bunch of random people. It doesn’t help that you spam invites to every other people because then you will become just like the 90% of guilds in this game: 500 unknown people where no one knows each other.
If you can, a guild forum helps. ALOT. It makes you seem organized and creates a place for the community to get to know each other.

Guardians can burst insane numbers and are a top-notch damage class if traited and built right. Most just don’t usually got full damage since we have the lowest healthpool in the game and no means to escape tricky situations.
I levelled my guardian with GS/sword-torch. Yes I went condition build and I loved it. When I hit 80 I started to adjust my style to fit the higher level content. I abandoned the burning build but I loved levelling with it. Level with the build that feels best and you can change it easily when you hit 80. Only the gear at lvl 80 matters. I used condition gear to lvl 79 and then crafted knights draconic gear.
Why would you stay inside the keep if you are a guardian. I usually jump down, drop the wall before the gate and down couple of people before going back in. Plus you can work as an diversion.
You can also target the real body. The target will stay even if he goes stealthed. Also it’s pretty easy if you follow their movements. Clones are stiff and do not avoid taking damage.
- Line of warding.
- Wall of Reflection.
- Staff 11111111 recurring.
But seriously, I went 0,10,10,20,30.
It’s an ok build.
I tried using Staff in zerg v zerg last night and each time I was dead less than 10 seconds later. Granted it was T1 megazerg ie 50-75 people on each side and those situations are brutal.
Why not just use Hammer if you’re up that close? What makes Staff better? Isn’t it better to stay at range?
The staff is our best weapon for zerg fights. You can heal, give 12 stacks of might, do AOE damage and stop the opponents from pressing foward. I usually got hammer/staff when I’m in wvw. Hammer is better than GS simply because it offers more support in the form of CC and constant blast finisher.
I only have an interest in dealing damage, rather than healing or supporting? I’m focusing on power with my guardian (vitality and toughness behind it)
I stopped reading right here. P/V/T gear is tank gear, you’re building your Guardian as a tank and you don’t realize it. Power/Precision/Crit damage is the damage dealing gear.
If my goal is damage, should I change? Or should I stick with what I’m doing? I’ve been using shouts, so I wanted the 20% cd vitality trait, as well as the greatsword skill cd. Toughness is something I could probably part with, as the trait skills aren’t really things I want/need, and I haven’t really noticed putting points into toughness affecting things much. Would precision be better?
Ignore the stat bonus in trait lines. Your damage comes from your gear and it should be power, precision and critical damage.
I chose guardian when the game launched and I have only played him trough the whole year and I couldn’t be happier about my choice. I can do everything I like. (well except cool ranged attacks but we have some of those as well)
The class I’m feeling most sorry about personally is the ranger. I really would like to level one but it just feels futile with their constant nerfing. The recent quickness nerf hit rangers BAD and shattered my wish to make a berserker ranger with short/longbow. Their only viable build is the trap ranger and I do not like that kind of play-style. Guardians on the other hand are a marvelous class and very well balanced. We rarely get nerfed and mostly we get convenient buffs like the line of warding in motion. (awesome buff)
1+ for cut-scenes.
You know you’ve played guardian too long when you see a buddhist monk meditating in TV and wonder: “What is he doing…?”

It’s a sad truth that many boss fights are made for casual players. I see alot of peole dying even at the current Jormag battle. I do however support more dynamic battles.
The one that needs the most fixing is The Shatterer. You can just stand next to him and he can’t touch you.
yawn. Oh another one of these.Though I do have to agree about the flame and frost update. My empathy towards the refugees is non-existent.

Recently I have started to explore Tyria once again. Like yesterday I went to Durman Priorys library and read some books. Also I re-visited Killuas grave and other neat stuff. They are there if you just bother looking for them.
That is the new tower shield you can buy with guild commendations and money. Looks awesome. You get guild commendations by doing guild missions with your guild. You can find the vendor next to the bank.
The quickness nerf was meant to reduce those insane 4x warrior and 1 mesmer speedruns. Also it’s for pvp since when mesmer drops a timewarp, it becomes nearly impossible to survive the onslaught. It did affect rangers tho which is a great dissapointment. I have been wanting to create a ranger for a while now but it seems like they are not getting anything good for a long time.
