Dragonhunter revealed... meh

i have no more hype left… my guardian in hot is gonna be ranger hunter taming dinosaurs with traps

Now it all makes sense, rangers have been asking for years to be able to play without using pets… so Arenanet thought… right we will give them Guardian Dragonhunters….

It’s a good point. Now we can play LB/GS on a Dragonhunter.

I like LB as a weapon for them, but that skill that looks like Barrage seems too much a copy. The switching of the virtues to add a little different flavor is very cool. The traps seem a little uninspired.

I agree with the above posters. Land spear would have been a better choice. A way to shoehorn in a tiny bit of Paragon flavor. This “elite” spec overall feels a little uninspired to me though.

It’ll be called, “Paragon”. It’s really too bad they didn’t give the Guardian Specialization a spear to use as a ranged weapon on land. Especially since they gave that Guardian in the image wings like a paragon. If they want to add spear as a land weapon for the guardian at a later time(If they ever add new weapons for existing professions)and it’s called something else, it’ll be odd.

I’m psyched about the longbow for the guardian and that it will be called paragon. If paragon isn’t the name of the guardian elite spec. I will eat my beta GW2 ball cap.

Two Elixir Grandmaster Traits...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

HGH by itself is something of a game-breaker and one of few existing Grandmasters that feels like a Grandmaster. 409 makes Elixir Engineers immune to conditions. You don’t think being able to take one trait in one line that gives you faster Elixirs which also give you all the Might in creation and makes you immune to conditions might be overdoing it a touch?

No more than reducing recharge on longbow skills, arrows piercing, and velocity increases. I’d rather see the might gone and replaced with removing conditions on grandmaster alchemy instead tbh if one would be completely lost. Hard choices? Not really for Engineer, tools has absolutely nothing else I’d use in it, 1 trait that I’d use isn’t worth 2 traits I wouldn’t have any use for due to the all or nothing mentality of the new system.

^really valid point. beastmastery for rangers is in the same boat as are a few for other professions. i’m not going to take a trait line that i want 1 thing in anymore and it’s a shame because sometimes those are great, but they won’t be worth it under the new proposed system.

paring things down like this is fine if every trait line offers something valid to use across the entire trait line. that just simply isn’t the case and it’s going to reduce a lot of the flexibility down to a very few number of solid choices.

im not a fan overall of the proposed changes.

the traits as they are now are in a really good spot. the game feels really balanced. the issue is not the traits. The issue is how you acquire traits. ArenaNet just doesn’t seem to get it.

Guardian --> Paragon <3

Yaaay, I just saw the facebook Guardian picture just a min ago!
Looks like an angel and as we’re in GW, it’s defiantly a Paragon! Yeeeee<3
Though I wanted land-spear aswell, but oh well.. longbow is always nice too.

So all these unreleased classes / old classes:

Chromomancer —> Cancelled class of the 4th campaign ’’Utopia’’. = Mesmer in HotS.
Paragon --> Nightfall class. = Guardian in HotS.
Ritualist + Dervish —> Nightfall and Factions classes = Revenant in HotS.
Summoners --> Cancelled class of the 4th campaign ’’Utopia’’ = Necromancer?
Monk —> ?? (Guardian)
Assassin --> ?? (Thief)

Cool way to reconnect old professions, as we, fans have requested it alot. Looks really interesting indeed.

Next time please take a look at the front page of the section you are posting in. There are a ton of threads that are already covering this.

RNG Conspiracy Conundrum

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

One of the things that would help RNG in favor of players is for ArenaNet to get rid of bags. Bags are unaffected in most spots(according to ArenaNet)by Magic Find.

“Working as intended” is another coy way of saying, “It’s working as we want it to.” That doesn’t mean that it’s working in your favor. Seriously guys, this is a game that encourages you to gamble by purchasing lockboxes with real money for a very slim chance of receiving expensive fake items in a fake world.

The in-game economy is directly tied to ArenaNet’s real world income. This game will never have drop rates geared towards players getting the high price tag items they want in game. It’s why the precursor system took so long to incorporate.

I personally would like them to incorporate a mechanic that flagged each account and your chance of getting a precursor would go up incrementally(very slowly)over time so that it would get rid of the outliers in the game. All people deserve to get the item they want without having to find the fastest way to make gold and do it ad nauseam until they get enough money to buy what they want.

For a company that claims to want to do things in a more innovative way than everyone else, they sure employ a very run of the mill rewards system and it’s all because the game economy is tied to their real life coffers. It’s a bummer.

Now's a Great Time for Skill Splits

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

I would really love to see skill splits for PvE/WvW/PvP. I have been saying it for two years. Right now while you guys are overhauling this system is the perfect time to implement it. Balance is becoming easier and diversity seems to be taking a back seat. This is your opportunity to tailor each profession’s skill set to each format. Little changes here and there that make the way the limited number of builds we will have access to geared toward that format.

You said it yourselves, it takes like 3 seconds to switch your build up.

  • Put a little drop down menu in the upper right hand corner of the build window with the following selections:
  • WvW(Green Font)
  • PvP(Red Font)
  • PvE(Blue Font)

Once selected any differences in will show up in the color of the font for that format. For example, let’s say Elemental Attunement is baseline for Elementalist’s in PvP. That trait difference will show up in blue font. Click the drop down menu again for WvW and the difference will be in green text and so on.

Not every single trait will need to be different. That’s not the point. The point is to give us more options with different weapons in each format that make sense for that format. You get the balance you want, and we get a little more diversity to play with even as a lot of what is happening is paring down our options. It’s win.win for everyone.

Well, that’s exactly what I was saying before: People who have never played it have no idea how it works so for them it seems like a blob fight.

It’s anything but “players running in a circle”, there is a lot of strategy involved.

You can do 15v15 too, but 20 is just more fun.

Fun. That’s really the point of gaming isn’kitten There is no easy way to monetize fun though without sacrificing some of it. Whatever happened to the notion that if you make something as fun as you possibly can and distill it to its purest possible form and keep the bean counters away from it, that people will want to support your game?

Lack of filler content until expac

Don’t mix up farming with grinding.

Younger gamers don’t know the difference. To them if something takes more than a day to complete, or heaven forbid requires repeating content at all, it’s a grind. They somehow want completely novel content that is readily available at any time, even if they play the game 8hrs/day for 3 years.

Those poor whippersnappers. In my day, in GW1, we would have already had Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall in the same time frame as GW2 has put out what they have put out. I have enjoyed what they have released immensely. When I look at the quality, the quantity, really everything, I don’t think there is even an argument.

One could make the argument that they could have kept the LS teams together and released fun, standalone episodes. I am not a fan of temporary content, but, any content is more fun than no content.

The point was that they would like 1 full set of the armor rather than working on both. I think they implemented this poorly. It’s gonna take most of us longer than 1 presidential term to unlock a set of armor for a game? No thanks.

Some of the merges of useless traits are really good. Limiting our creativity is bad. What if I don’t want a Grandmaster in that slot? What if I don’t want a Master trait in that slot?

More options are always better. ArenaNet always does this. They do something really cool on one hand and then dumb it down with the other.

If you can’t see the problem smart and skillful players are having with this, you are the reason why they are “streamlining” traits.

We tell them over and over how bad the trait changes were. Instead of rewarding skillful play, they water it down in a different way.

The bad of this new system definitely outweighs the good of it. *Just wait until the Elite Specializations are revealed. There will most definitely be disparity in strength of builds. You will literally have 2-3 builds that will work for each profession with elite specs always having a place in the meta.

Elite Specialization Packs[Suggestion]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

Be better to ask them to sell the x-pac in the 3 game modes.

  1. PvE only x-pac $30
  2. PvP only x-pac $30
  3. WvW only x-pac $30
  4. All the above $75

edit: imo, i wouldn’t really care what they do, i play all 3 game modes pretty evenly so regardless, i’d be buying the entire x-pac

You do know that the PvP and WvW stuff is coming for free for all players right?

Yes, many of the PvP and WvW features will be rolled out for all base game players. But that doesn’t mean they won’t roll out specific PvP/WvW exclusive x-pac content. So you can’t rule anything out, really. I mean, from a marketing/economic perspective, offering exclusive x-pac content for PvP/WvW players would be more economically beneficial.

Depends on if offering split content would increase the sale quantity and increase overall revenue while keeping in mind that fracturing the community and game causes long term problems.

Since most people will want to have all of the x-pac content splitting it up and charging more total compared to leaving it bundled charging less in total is not necesseraly the smartest way to go marketing wise. Just look at how excessive DLC affects the community of other games.

The fracturing comes from the fact that Stronghold and the new Borderland map don’t require HoT. What happens when a PvP only player doesn’t want to buy HoT because all they want to do is play PvP and they play 1 or 2 classes? If that’s the case for me, I don’t buy HoT. I still get to play the new PvP mode, I don’t have access to the Elite specs though and depending on how “elite” they are, I may want them, but it doesn’t justify a whole x-pac purchase. Offering them on the web shop offers value and access to what I want to play and not what I don’t care about.

If it were up to me, PvP would be f2p. Seriously. Get people in the game without charging a dime and let them access The Mists only. Put the Mystic Forge back in and that place has what it needs to let this be another viable revenue stream in a big way. PvP would never lack for participants and the gem shop and webstore would have all they could want if they wanted to buy the game after playing some matches.

They can’t be purchased for gems, but it gives PvP-only players a way to purchase these if that is all they want out of the x-pac. The game has been out three years now(I am including beta since that is the benchmark for games being out now and I had to buy the game to participate in the beta) and people know what parts of the game they like and what they don’t like. You could sell the Elite Specializations for $2.50 each or for $20 for all of them.

Empty Feedback

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

First off, I really want to say a hearty thank you to the devs for the 4+ hour stream on Friday’s ‘Ready Up!’ It was really comprehensive. I appreciated being able to listen in on how you guys felt about traits and being talked to like an adult as opposed to being talked at like how some of the blog posts are when you are trying to sell me on something. This ‘Ready Up!’ was really good communication except where it wasn’t but I will get to that later. Seriously, this is how the blog posts should be: Honest, forthcoming, exhaustive, and comprehensive.

The issue that I saw with it though was how do we give constructive feedback on Specializations without being able to see the Elite Specs? Don’t we have to see those to see if the regular ones are any good when compared to them?

My other concern is that the Elite Specs are only available to those who buy HoT and the ‘regular’ traits have been pared down pretty extensively. Sure, they look good when looked at through the lens of what we know now, but we are missing a ton of data to give really good feedback. All the feedback you guys are getting right now is without us having knowledge of new heals, utilities, weapon skills, stat combos on jewelry/weapons/armor, new elites, rune/sigil changes, new weapons for existing professions, and Elite Specs. A bunch of this feedback could be way off.

‘Ready Up!’ was a great starting point at really professional communication with the playerbase and I appreciate that. It still needs some work because a lot of the feedback coming your way right now would be a lot more valuable to you guys if what we were giving feedback on was the complete picture. Our feedback would be totally different if we had knowledge of the Elite specs and all the things I mentioned earlier.

In light of that, I will wait to leave any about builds etkittenil the next stream that Josh talked about. Hopefully that will give us the whole picture when it comes to all of the specializations.

Feedback: Fall Damage Reduction Traits

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

In one word : WvW

Fall trait are incredibly usefull in every content where you can fall. And since they want to ad more vertical map in PvE, they gain even more value.

And in certain places they don’t. There is one section of the new map where if you control it you dont take fall damage. They are seriously very niche and in ArenaNet trying to streamline all of this, those could go and it wouldn’t be a bi deal.

Or they could do what they should have done for years and do skill splits and keep them for WvW and get rid of them everywhere else where they have little to no value.

No more Elemental Attunement + Evasive Arcana

in Elementalist

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

Elemental Attunement needs to be baseline or it needs to be put back in as a Master. Baseline would be my choice. It’s one of the traits that promotes active play for Eles. I’d be really curious as to what Izzy thinks about all of this. Most Elementalist builds use both EAs. They are core to the class when run together at this point. #5 Water staff—> Earth Attunement swap—> #2 Earth Staff—dodge roll double blast heal in PvP is a must for my bunker rotation.

I appreciate the change to Aquatic Benevolence. How about making Elemental Attunement the Base trait before the GM trait in Arcana?

Sans that, I think the changes to Arcana as they were in the stream yesterday take away a lot of what makes the Ele compelling to play.

I think we need more variety in our game play, but that doesn’t mean I want Ele to become less active in combat. It’s one of the most active classes when played properly. It’s very engaging and I would hate to see that change.

Whose builds are burned, and why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

One of my favorite PvE builds and my absolute favorite PvP build is being flat out removed, with nothing remotely similar to replace it.

I run an elixir fused bomb build with clerics gear, light condition duration for immobilize and vulnerability stacks, and of course the full bomb suite of traits from the explosive tree. They’re going to remove Elixir Infused Bombs for a heal on blast finisher trait. How does that fill even remotely the same niche? And aren’t bombs already unpopular enough without have no trait for them?

I have honestly not been so saddened by any change to the game, not even when they took away my shroud bounce builds, I feel like I’ve just been punched in the gut, that clerics engi build is just so much fun and it’s the build I’ve had more compliments on in PvP than any other.

This build honestly sounds like the exact type of candidate that Roy was talking about when he said to leave the team feedback. They said none of what they posted was set in stone multiple times throughout the stream. There is a good chance your build could still make it in the release. Make a forum post about this.

Builds Are Now Outfits: Bye Choice Hi Clones

How many builds are you using each day? hundreds or thousands? Which fraction of the currently available build pool, are you using each day? 1%, 20% or 80%? How many builds have you played and tested so far? 5k or over 20k?

I would use at least 3 builds a day if we got build templates. However a core feature of GW1 seems to be impossible for developers to execute in the sequel.

^ Build crafting is fun. Saving builds and tweaking them later or running them in certain places in the game would be cool. This new system is paring things down immensely.

I will be OK with them doing this if it means we get skill splits for WvW/PvP/PvE. There is zero reason we can’t get skill splits now. Which in turn would mean templates would be really beneficial. Select a preset and go from format to format at a whim.

My conclusion from all of this is that ArenaNet is catering to a wholly different audience than it once did. Creativity is being stifled for players who can actually play. It’s too bad.

Do NOT allow premades in unranked

in PvP

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

However why do i even have to WORRY about being matched vs premades while queuing solo?

The fact that im getting premades on both sides means that there are more flaws in the system, not less. Its just that for these past few games i happened to get the “better” premade or it would be more losses than that.

Why do you have to worry?

If a 4+1 versus a 4+1 is an even match, why shouldn’t we make it? There is no right or wrong answer here, just curious as you seem to not think this is a good idea.

I am more concerned with the future. When Stronghold and Conquest are merged it will add another layer of frustration for solo queuers.

Then you will have HoT and non-HoT players. Elite Specializaztions vs. players with non-elite specializations all in the same queue and some will be premades and some will not be. This issue is only going to be compounded. We are doing a test season prior to a wholly new mode being released that will be part of the same queue as the one we are testing but sans Stronghold to add to the data pool for the test season!

When HoT comes out, not only will I have to hope that it’s all solo queuers like me, I will have to hope they own HoT(so they have access to elite specializations) and I will have to hope I get the game mode I desire to play at the time.

There was a lot of unnecessary hyperbole in the OP’s post but that doesn’t change the thrust of his argument. We want split queues for solo/team queue.

Iason Evan.3806

The funny part to me is if 5 of 9 professions Elite Specs are the best. What happens to people in PvP that don’t buy HoT and can’t use an Elite Spec? You have to own HoT to use an Elite Spec. If I were a PvP-only player, I would not pay full box price for acess to that if I have no desire to play the PvE content. This is gonna wreak havoc on PvP.

If they don’t buy the expansion they will be at a disadvantage, just like in every other game that has an expansion.

The person will have to decide if it is worth buying it or not. Also specialization are not going to make the current classes less effective in any case, so it doesn’t matter. And if it does matter they will buy the expac.

All of the matches have a chance to be terrible then because there will be a lot of people playing that haven’t bought the x-pac and if you are on their team it will be detrimental to your experience.

This is a huge mistake.

in PvP

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

Why shouldn’t the developers of these new skills/animations/etc. be paid for it?

Look at it this way, buying HoT is like buying a pack of 9 heroes in LoL (plus all the pve/wvw content for free!). You can still play and I am sure quite a few classes will have preferred builds that DON’T use specializations.

I really wanted to avoid saying we should get a way to pay for this for use in PvP only, but I guess that is what it takes. There should be a PvP Unlock pack in the gem shop for those people that like PvP but don’t care about PvE.

This is my question as well. After being given these for so long it was pretty safe for players to assume we would be able to farm these for a new race or profession or both. To announce this well after the announcement of the Revenant is irritating. Why wouldn’t a lot of us start farming these in preparation? ArenaNet a few year ago: “Here’s all these rewards in boxes etc. They contain skill points and leveling tomes for your account so you can pvp and level up or just use them on alts. It’s super flexible and amazing!”

Me a few years ago: “Cool! If they ever release a new profession or race or both I can use these to level up to 80 and play all new content instead of content I have played over and over. This is awesome we don’t have to traditionally level up. We can just play new classes in new areas as they come out! Thanks ArenaNet! I think I’ll head to PvP and farm these up for future races and professions!”

ArenaNet today: "Now we are changing what you have spent thousands of hours getting into something totally different and we are going to be vague about it but keep the current reward structure in place. We don’t want you skipping that content you rightfully have no desire to play anymore. Instead of letting you have a fresh level 80 Revenant so you can just play the expansion with it, you need to go through all that content you are tired of. Sorry to those of who have spent the last few months since we announced the expansion who have spent countless hours farming skill points and leveling tomes in advance. We should have been more clear on how it was going to work to save you all a bunch of wasted time. "

PvP-Only Elite Spec. Unlock?

in PvP

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

Can we please get an option in PvP to use Elite Specializations for PvP only? For those of us not interested in PvE whatsoever, it would be really nice to still have access to the Elite Specializations. If I were a PvP only player I would really have no interest in purchasing HoT at full price to get access to these Elite Specializations. I am assuming we are already getting the new WvW Borderlands for free(In the map rotation, what are you going to do, lock players out of WvW based on whether or not they purchased HoT?) as well as Stronghold since the queues are combined at this point, but we have to pay for what might be the most powerful specs even though we aren’t interested in PvE?

At the very least this will create an uneven playing field. In solo queue it will be a nightmare because there won’t be a “HoT only Queue”.

For example: 1 person that owns HoT could get stuck with 4 players that do not HoT, playing a match against a premade that owns HoT using Elite Specs that the other players don’t have access to, playing a format they may not enjoy(Stronghold).

The above scenario shouldn’t be the case. PvP should always be a level playing field and you should be able to queue against like players(a pick between solo and team queues and a pick between Stronghold and Conquest and Ranked or Unranked).

Specializations. Concerns about less variety.

This is gonna wreak havoc on PvP.

skill point scrolls

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I definitely want to know what will happen with skill point scrolls so I can make an informed decision as to what I want to do with these items that I have specifically spent dozens of hours gathering.

It would be really nice to get some hard clarification on this:

  • What exactly are the materials?
  • Will the skill point scrolls turn into a single item for the Mystic Forge or is there a choice?
  • Is it an automatic transformation upon login after the update?

1.) Skill splits across WvW/PvE/ PvP
2.) New races
3.) New weapon Types
4.) Functional pets for rangers
5.) New dungons
6.) New Fractals
7.) New maps on a regular basis with a meta event
8.) Guild Management QoL pass
9.) Home Instance housing with items we can earn in game and buy on the gem shop to decorate with. Has to be both types though
10.) Activities in the PvP lobby for the queue waiting
11.) Dungeon, Fractal, and PvP loot improvements to match current meta loot area and to keep it current
12.) Solo/Team Queue Split/Unmerge Conquest and Stronghold queues for HoT. It will be a mess
13.) T4 Racial Armor sets completed on the Tyrian mastery track
14.) Maguuma Wastes Mastery Tracks for Armor, Weapons and Glider Skins
15.) Bug Fixing for professions

I could keep gong and going but I am not gonna spend more than the 10 minutes I already have on something that probably will not get read or responded to as per usual by the staff. It’s really disheartening when you leave a lot of constructive feedback and it just goes ignored.

  • Profession specific dailies in ranked queue would be gone
  • Solo queue/Ranked queue split
  • Weekly automated tournaments for gems
  • PvP/PvE/WvW Skill splits
  • Wouldn’t belittle the players by trying to sell them on my ideas. Would honestly explain why changes are happening. That way if I am wrong about a decision, I am more likely to get an honest response.
  • Fix in-game scoreboard to reward players playing format properly
  • Skill tweaks every few months to shift meta to keep game fresh
  • Orichalcum/Platinum/Gold/Silver/Bronze placements for player groupings in 6 week long ladders
  • Buff loot to match Silverwastes loot levels
  • If a player has all champion profession titles, special title awarded
  • 100 gems per month for playing at least 25 matches to get more people playing

They still need to disallow pvp profession specific dailies in ranked queue. The fact that it was not only overlooked but is still in the game is troubling.

4 MILLION worth of Luck, what to do?

keep 5 stacks and delete the rest. exotic luck is fairly rare and i can’t see anet making you even having to use a stack for a mystic forge recipe.

seriously. delete it. there is zero point in keeping all that.

Because of the reason it is rare, I dont want to delete all of those they will have to do something eventually cause more and more people will have this problem in the future. in my opinion it is better to hold on to it. Since it only affects 1 characters inventory, not a big deal

Hoard the luck that is useless to your character. Cool.

Horizontal Maguuma Mastery Track

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

Horizontal progression isn’t just about cosmetics though; it’s about options and tools as opposed to climbing stats.

If you can’t do something – jump on mushrooms – because you lack the ability and then you train a Mastery to gain that ability, it’s horizontal progression; it doesn’t make you more powerful, but it gives you another tool to explore.

I disagree. If you and I are both in the exact same gear and you have put points into the mastery for killing Mordrem and I haven’t, you can kill them and I can’t. The mushroom thing was a bad example. Heck, you could theoretically be a much worse player than I and if you’ve spent the points, you have the chance to kill the Mordrem whereas I would have zero chance if I hadn’t spent the points.

All I am saying is that I have seen no information that any of the Maguuma tracks are cosmetic at all and that is precisely what I feel all the tracks should be: Cosmetic. Killing enemies should be based on skill, not Mastery Score. In other games they call it gear score. This is just another arbitrary gating mechanism plain and simple. It’s very against the way GW2 has been since its inception. Fractals have gating but only at higher levels.

I am not against level 80 content at all. Any new, permanent content in this game is a good thing no matter what it is. I just don’t want this game to devolve into every time we get an expansion pack, the masteries for that x-pac are exclusive to that x-pac. Make it cosmetic and it doesn’t do that.

I also find the Tyrian Track to be lazy design. Instead of “jam packing” the old game with new content for the precursor track, we are either being awarded retroactive mastery points for it or we are new players and we are doing content in the game that has been there since day one. If they added new content for the precursor track, it would be new content for vets and newer players alike.

Proposed Changes for Engineer Turrets

in PvP

Turrets shouldn’t be affected in PvE. We need skill splits. I don’t want little circles on the ground and channeling supply in Stronghold to dictate what a class can do in PvE. It’s asinine.

“Dear ANet, as a Vet who’s been with you from GW1 and loyally supported your game since the Beta, could you please take under consideration this suggestion I proposed to improve game experience for everyone, not just new folks. I prefer not to buy a half-completed expansion.”

You are misunderstanding the system. They are giving mastery points in “old tyria” for things we’ve already done. What you should be asking them is to add all new game play and stuff to do in “old tyria” for mastery points.

Horizontal Maguuma Mastery Track

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

For the x-pac, I would like to suggest a mastery track for armor, weapon, and glider skins in Maguuma. Whatever happened to this game being about horizontal progression? Sure, you included a precursor track for Tyria, but I want a Maguuma Track to have a horizontal progression as well. It can only add to the longevity of the content that we players are paying for when we buy the x-pac.

As it stands now, all the masteries we know about in Maguuma are vertical progression. Wanna get up to that ledge? You need 5 Mushroom Mastery points spent. If there’s an armor vendor up there, then ignore my request. Same if there is a glider skin vendor. If there isn’t though, then I really desire progression that goes with what the progression in this game is supposed to be about.

If I am paying for this content, I want cosmetics that tell other players what I did to get said cosmetics.

I agree with posters that want armor sets. For 100 gems more I can mix and match it. It’s more work for ArenaNet to be sure, but I would rather have a “One size fits all” armor set instead of one size fits all outfits. Above that I would rather have 3 sets. Above even that I would rather have more armor sets we can play the game for and earn doing specific things.

How big is the new region?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Iason Evan.3806

Iason Evan.3806

I share your concerns. I won’t go into how I think choosing one climate type is a mistake due to lack of variety because I have gone into that a lot before.

While that is my main concern, I am also concerned about how many new sets of armor and weapons we get as well as glider skins. If we are paying for this new content, we should get a lot of new sets included in that purchase price as rewards for all of that content they say we are getting. If I have to get all my glider, weapon and armor skins on the gem shop, that’s double dipping and I am not a fan of that nor will I do it. This is supposed to be a fully featured, paid for x-pac. I expect to be getting a healthy amount of rewards to go with my purchase.

If there is a Fractal Mastery system, I would hope that means we are getting a few new Fractals as well. If the x-pac is only offering a new system to go along with old Fractals, I could see that being a letdown.

We already know that the new borderlanads map and new Stronghold PvP format are available to all players regardless of if they purchased the x-pac or not. Stronghold is supposed to share its queue with Conquest. The new Borderlands map is going to be in a rotation with the already available Alpine Borderland map.

If the x-pac is a new profession, 3 new maps in a single climate region, and specializations, I can’t see wanting to pay more than $30 for it.

I definitely would rather have all masteries focused on horizontal progression(skins)instead of vertical progression (EX: You have to have 5 points in that particular mastery to kill this creature in front of you <—that’s no different than Fractals, except in Fractals you can do low level ones without AR which is the gating mechanism there).

This is the first x-pac in the history of the franchise(I have multiple accounts for both games)that I am thinking about waiting until it comes out and gets reviewed instead of pre-ordering.

I am an explorer as well and I would rather have a traditional “Tyrian” x-pac replete with multiple climate types, dungeons, mini games, new armor, weapons, etc. etc.
