So just don’t use it yourself personally. Options, dude. They are good. You get the option to not use it and I get the option to use it. Everyone wins.

A few questions:

1.) When they release raids, will the capes clip with the mounts during PvE dueling?

2.) Have they decided whether or not to split the queues for Stronghold/Death Match/Conquest?

3.) When will ladders be implemented?

4.) Are there any plans to do skill splits in order for all content to be balanced for its own format?

5.) Do they have any plans to sell the “Revenant” class a la carte for people who don’t play PvE but would like to have the class for PvP/WvW?

Personal Bank Gold Changes?

What is the issue? You can’t put gold in your bank?

The issue is that when the game came out we could store gold in our personal bank. They changed it. They said that in the interim we should use a personal guild bank. Then a fix never came to replace the removed personal gold storage in our personal bank.

Heck, I would even take it a step further and say that we should get an optional password system on our bank gold storage. That way even people that get hacked have a way to protect something. Options are good things. If account safety is so paramount, why can’t gold be stored in our bank and not in a personal guild bank that has a “Leave Guild” button right next to the “Represent” button?

When are we going to be able to deposit gold in our personal banks again? I remember Martin Kerstein talking about how the band-aid fix for it was to use a personal guild bank, but that was ages ago. Then, nothing ever happened after that. Are we going to get this fixed at some point? We lost some great functionality and have gotten nothing implemented to make the system better.

I ask because I would like to see it return and would also like to see some improvements with guild banking if personal gold storage doesn’t make a return. If a guild leader sets permissions for an account to be flagged as having full access to a guild bank, then it should just have full access. I get that you are protecting people from having their guilds being ripped off but why is that not on the guild leaders to set proper parameters for who can access stuff?

Skill splits would have to happen for anything larger than 5v5. They refuse to do skill splits even though different balancing for different formats would benefit the game immensely.

In the “Guild Raiding CDI” they did talk about how they would need to change up how skills worked to accommodate more players playing in concert with each other. Maybe if raids actually make it into the game they could have a separate balance table for raids and 8v8/10v10 Stronghold.

I would love to see WvW and PvE get different balance as well. As it stands now the whole game is balanced around 5v5 and capturing little circles. It’s awful.

Welcome to the game! Now is a great time to get started but I would recommend only playing one class to cap right now as they are going to revamp leveling for the better when the expansion comes out. I’d play one class to learn the ins and outs and save some coin for other classes once it comes out.

[SUGGESTION] One-time cultural armor purchase

They should just bite the bullet and make them skins to purchase with gold…. The idea that they are actually usable armor is laughable.

Now if they WANT to make it usable:

  1. Change T3 to Exotic
  2. All have select able stats (like crafted back pieces).
  3. Come with some decent. racial-related, superior runes. (they could be salvageable since they cost so much).

I like this idea. They need stuff to be usable for sure. It’s like the Year of the Ram celebration we just had. The gold back pieces weren’t even level 80 because they didn’t want us to be able to salvage ectos from them? Super petty and completely useless as an item for play. Sure, we have to use trans stones, but introducing content so that we have to use items from the gem shop is a terrible reason to introduce items from a player standpoint.

Just make the cultural T3 armor exotic. That would be great. At the very least make them skins that don’t require a trans charge for initial application.

Most of the x-pac has me really excited. The limited scope of climates in the x-pac does not. I like variety, and the only variety this x-pac will offer in the way of diverse climates is Jungle: Canopy, jungle floor, and well, more jungle in the middle.

It would have been nice to have a section of this be in a snowy region, a coastal region, a volcanic region etc. just to break up the monotony of the scenery.

I really thought that was how they’d do it to when they started showing how widespread Mordy’s tentacles were reaching. Instead, we are getting only a few maps with basically the same climate.

Gossamer actually needs to go up in price. Silk was an issue before and now isn’t. Leather needs to be addressed in a big way. Money sinks with crating mats are awesome. When you don’t need it anymore you can actually make money on it and that’s great for my wallet!

I remember when the meta was really bunkery and being bored out of my mind watching the stream and saw a thief teleport to a place he had no bidness teleporting to and thinking, “Wow, there are ArenaNet devs watching this stream because I see them chatting…this garbage will for sure get nerfed because the players are EXPLOITING this on a live stream in a tournament

That was months ago. It should have been fixed immediately. People get banned for less and this happened in a tournament and those players were awarded money for cheating.

Build templates are a big deal in my opinion. They dropped the ball on this in a big way. We’ve been talking about wanting them for a long time.

I understand the dislike of manually swapping builds before a pvp match, we do it now (to some extent) if we end up with courtyard as opposed to a conquest map. I’d like to have build templates too, but it’s not the end of the world that we don’t.

As Colin stated, they have priorities. As a company, that’s their prerogative. We don’t have to like it necessarily. We don’t even have to agree with them, but we lack a significant amount of data which is used in determining what they decide are priorities.

As I said before, only so much can be developed in an allotted amount of time. They have talked about a whole new region, whole new story, 4 work intensive new systems, a new pvp game mode, precursor crafting / scavanger hunt, a new class, revamping the trait system (yet again), and a bit more. Which of those would you have preferred to have been dropped so that your desire could be fulfilled? I’m sure while you’d prefer templates over ‘x’ feature, someone else would prefer that feature over your templates, or even something else entirely (dueling? marriage? personal housing? wow 3.0?) .

They cannot please everyone, nor can they do it all ‘right now.’ Be content knowing that it’s on their to do list. Colin could have just as easily have said they weren’t doing them at all.

i totally get where you are coming from and respect your opinion. my main issue is that if they weren’t going to do templates then they shouldn’t have merged the queues. they shouldn’t merge modes regardless, but doing so and then omitting templates on top of it just compounds the issue in my opinion.

Templates would be a handy convenience item; however, I’m actually not let down by Colin’s statements at all.

They aren’t working on them currently, but they’re aware they would be nice / good to have. It’s something they want to do, but the expansion is the priority for them. I can respect that they have priorities and that only so much development can be achieved over a given amount of time.

It’s a greater issue for PvP where they have said they are merging the Stronghold/Conquest queues. No one wants to have to manually switch builds every time a queue pops. Build templates are pretty much standard issue in MMOs in this day and age. They should have them, especially if they decide to go forward with the debacle that merged queues for different pvp formats would be. The only thing worse than not getting templates after we have expressed our desire to have them for a few years now is the terrible communication on ArenaNet’s part. How do you have merged queues if Stronghold is part of the HoT purchase as they have said it is? How do queues work with a split playerbase?

If I was a pvp only player and Stronghold didn’t look like my kind of mode, I wouldn’t buy the x-pac so that I would never have to queue for it. Heck, I would even wait to hear what people had to say about it so that my account wasn’t flagged to be a part of a merged queue.

Now that Colin has confirmed that build templates are not happening with HoT, it’s an even bigger reason to split the queues.

I honestly believe that if the queues are merged then this new mode will not actually require purchase of HoT. How would people queue who didn’t buy the x-pac? There are only two things that can happen:

1.) Stronghold isn’t part of the x-pac and everyone gets it and they merge the queues.

or

2.) Stronghold requires you to purchase the x-pac and they split the queues.

ArenaNet’s communication on this subject has been downright awful.

LW Teams Working on Interim Content?

Are the Living World teams still working separately from the teams that are working on HoT to bring some content to the game while we wait on the x-pac?

You could call it “Bonus World” content! A side adventure that lasts a few episodes and it could be kinda silly to break up the tone of killing dragons and corruption etc. If you aren’t working on any now, I’d suggest in the future having these teams or other ones do something like this. It makes sense for the transitions between x-pacs to be seamless and I would love something akin to the Bonus Mission Pack in the style of GW2’s Living World, but lighthearted.

There are f2p games with templates where it’s not even important to have access to switching builds quickly.

Guild Wars 1 had build templates and separate queues for separate pvp formats.

It makes me wonder if this progression offers meaningful choice like different paths to get to the end or if it’s just arbitrary gating. I would love to be able to play one character and use mushrooms and gliding to get through the content and play another character and use the combat masteries etc. I know that you would probably at least need a few points in some for some places.

I dunno what the point would be really. If I had my druthers, GW2 would have the same design flow as GW1. A boxed game every year and no cash shop.

The big allure for me is playing the game to earn everything. The cash shop neuters that to an extent. It’s still there to be sure, but not all the way. A lot of the things that would be a tangible reward for playing specific content ends up in the cash shop. That’s why I tend to like the armor sets and weapons we can only get by playing -i.e. Glorious Armor/Fractal Weapons-.

Why is celestial time-gated?

Mayhaps I’m missing something, but time-gating this seems a little, pointless and “unfun
So why is this time-gated (via quartz crystal)?
The only purpose I can think of is that it was designed to test the time gating system on ascended items, which itself should only have been temporary anyways to prevent parts the community from getting ascended and leaving everyone else in the dust… all of which is fine, but kinda lame, and now long after… pointless.
So am I missing something or is there some ginormous reason as to why we can’t remove a pointless time-gate?

Even though they never confirmed it, I agree that it was a test run for ascended timegates. That being said, I see why certain items are timegated and I dont think they should remove it after a couple of months or a year.
And considering that Anet used charged quartz in more recipes since the introduction of celestial (grow lamp, charged ambrite) I dont think they will remove the time gate anytime soon.

It should be early on. It would stink to have to play a class to cap that you might not like in order to get to something you might want but don’t know whether it’s right for you or not til you get there. I am all about an involved quest etc. but it should be early on enough that you don’t have to play something you don’t want to play to cap.

It will come with a character slot. When they released new classes with Factions and Nightfall we got free slots. When they released Eye of the North, they didn’t release a new class so we didn’t get slots. They won’t charge you for a slot for a new profession that is included in the x-pac.

Exploration is the one area this game lacks in with new development. “Empty” maps aren’t really when you consider that building a world that has quiet places among all the chaos is what makes it believable that it’s a world. They’ve decided that in this x-pac it doesn’t even need to be spread out over a large portion of the world and include many varying climate types to break up the monotony. It’s a high-rise MMO x-pac in a dense city(jungle)bustling with activity.

I like having a lot to do. It’s necessary. It’s better than having nothing to do, but leaving out quiet swaths of landscape is detrimental to the world building aspects of games. When you don’t break up the action the pacing gets thrown out of whack. We will see what happens though.

I wonder if this means we are getting a feature patch on March 10. They did talk about the Stability change coming sooner than we think after all, so it is quite possible that we will see that and these new changes to the camera in that patch.

Maybe we might even see the Personal Story fix (if that is ready).

This is my thought too. We got a feature patch around that time last year as well, no? Really stoked that these changes are finally making their way to the game!

My hope is that the specializations are really streamlined from the get go(wishful thinking) and that they polish the base classes to match that so they are still viable. I’d hate to see the specializations make some base class builds useless. We shall see. What’s the point of specializations if they neuter variety in builds?

Based on what (little) information we have, that’s still useless in the current GW2.

The issue isn’t that we can’t interrupt the bosses. It’s that there’s no point in doing so. All bosses have slow attacks that can be dodged quite nicely. Why take CC skills and reduce your own DPS if you can just take more damage skills and dodge the boss’ big attack, instead of interrupting it?

Notice that the thing with the Wyvern is not that it has a strong, single attack – rather, it has been built so interrupting it also makes it more vulnerable to damage, which is something CC doesn’t do to any other boss in the game. In the end, it’s still about DPSing the boss faster, with CC helping in doing so, instead of interrupting a boss to really prevent it from doing something.

The current bosses in the game could be adapted so there’s actually a point in interrupting them… But let’s be real, ArenaNet is never going to rework so much of the original game.

From what I understood, and I might be wrong, if you interrupt the wyvern’s flight, you are not merely interrupting a single attack. You are interrupting an entire raid sequence while he is in the air, which I assume it means that you are preventing a massive amount of red circles and a stance that would make him incredible hard to target with melee weapons. A traditional, melee zerker party would probably get toasted while dealing little to no damage input in that scenario.

Exactly. The extra damage is a bonus. The actual reason you are CCing the wyvern is to prevent it from igniting half the battlefield while you can’t reach it.

However, I’m worried if a decent group can simply manage to avoid 100% of those epic/ dangerous gameplay scenarios. I hope there’s some additional, secondary mechanics that attempt to distract players and increase margin of error, so that timing CC doesn’t becomes as trivial as spamming it on target calling every single time.

All of these are very good comments. I am really digging that they are finally bringing control into pve. All valid points and concerns in the above posts. I really like the direction they are moving with control though.

I really think if they were going to add weapons it should have been that each class got 5 new weapon skills meaning if they don’t give a class a two-hander, they get a main hand and off hand weapon.

Reason is simple: 1 outfit across all armor types(male and female/5 races) = 700 gems.

With armor, they have to do 3 sets(male and female/5 races) and all the seams, layers, everything has to be just so to work with the other pieces. Heck, most of the time they don’t even add tail slots for Charr or proper horn/ear slots for Charr or Asura and they get 800 gems per set for that.

The outfits are easier to make(time wise). I don’t want to detract from the awesome work they do, but it has to be a magnitude less work to do an outfit over armor sets. I agree though, I would rather have armor sets.

Why don’t they do it this way instead: Make outfits into 6 pieces wearable by all armor types?

That seems to me the best compromise.

My views on why GW2 =/= Esports

If we can all agree it’s not an esport can we Please start revolving the balance around PvE then. It’s the most played of the formats. At some point can we please get skill splits for the formats or stop balancing skills around capture point circles on the ground in a game that even the community doesn’t even think is an esport?

It’s either that or can we get a shifting meta that happens more than once a year? I would love to have GW2 be a game that changed things up every few months to keep it fresh.

It’s awful.

I suggested this a little over a year ago and totally 100% agree with you on this. If they put what level crafting discipline each character was on the select screen it would be great.

I can list you some pros(still would prefer separate queues):

  • More queues would split the community even further, and therefore increase either the time you spent in the queue or it would reduce the match quality / increase the span of the MMRs each participating player has.
  • Variety: You will not get bored from only playing one stronghold map over and over again / this might also disguise the fact, that there (given the current information) will only be one stronghold map.
  • It will force players to adjust their setup depending on the map they get.

Aren’t they already splitting the population up by including Stronghold in the x-pac?
