We Need More Gem Store Character Cosmetics

Inimicus.7162

so long as the changes stay only cosmetic to the look of what’s being altered… the flesh golem and shade need to stay “flesh golem” and “shades” and the same for engi turrets, but look alterations to those skills, or attack animations could be viable I think. Flip side is that currently I think the reasoning behind such specific alterations not being put in is because I already push crashing just trying to log in when i park in LA, and while my rig isn’t uber by any standard, it’s no dinosaur or el-cheapo either, and so many specific things having to be loaded into small spaces (wvw zergs, orrian temples, the area around the mytic toilet in LA) will only slow things down that much more without also adding a way for me to turn off seeing specific effects like those comming from other characters (without killing my ability to see other particles completely).

But yes, so far as it only alters looks, not functions…its something that might add some flavor to the gem store… just have a way to switch back and forth easily like the current finishers page in the achievements window

Simple Stealth balancing.

Stealth is all the thief has as things are, if they try to fight without using it at all they are not going to have it easy in the least… so especially compared to all other option, stealth is OP among thief assets. Dealing with the stealth-tag-stealth-w/e-stealth-kitten -stealth-halfway across the map all of a sudden thieves is beyond annoying for sure… Honestly I preferred the way the stealth/hiding mechanic from various other games worked, where it was ONLY either set up an especially hard hitting attack, or to get away…but that was the only time stealth itself was applicable, not in combat, and not the epic trolled to death thing we have now.

Unfortunately I have to agree also with the people who want stealth to say as it, because again, it’s all they got… the only way I can see to “fix” the mechanic would be to make the thief hard to catch in other ways…along the line of mesmers actually. Teleporting (shadow step…same diff), CCs, or rolling around all over the place, if not outright evading through an attack mechanic (all of these are already there, but not enough to even scratch the surface of what stealth currently offers) could be quite viable replacements… To be honest I’m floored that the thief’s 1h sword doesn’t use the very attacks the ranger’s were given, all be it, the differences are almost moot…

Just saying, I don’t care for stealth, but to replace it would likely make thieves that much more annoying to fight, and likely push them well into the realms of actually being OP beyond this one mechanic.. just my thoughts on the matter.

Oh, you mean they were un-tradable before they even existed since the game had not been released? Because they hired said employee several MONTHS before release

actually that change came a few months after release :P

but in all seriousness, just make the dragonite/ empy and bloodstone tradeable on the AH…the vision crystals themselves cause why not? would make my life easier on the ascended mats front.

And…yes: trading in junk ascended rings either 1 for 1 for others (via a token swap for ease) or for said ores/other bits definitely sounds fair to me.

Let us choose the minor traits

Well, I understand ANet’s want for simplified balancing, but they really did bone the system by not having boatloads of available skills to choose from, and attributes who are easier to mess with. It’s one of the points of GW1 that i still really miss.

My favorite reason:
Gw1 Ele vs Gw2 Ele:
Air magic in GW1 supported the idea that a bolt of electricity from the freaking sky, as hot as the surface of the sun, with enough energy released on impact IRL to fling the forsaken unlucky soul who gets stuck quite a good distance… IS an acceptable form of DPS, and rox the sox off things with unusual amounts of armor ( 25% armor penetration).
Air magic in gw2 is all about being cowardly and having the ability to run away via a cheap aoe stun and a speed boost, and some blinds whos usefulness in pve is slim at best since champ mobs basically ignore the mechanic anyway (10% chance of the blind NOT being effective on champ iirc?)…and the only way air magic really does lots of dps is by being a kamekazi close in ele with the worst armor and one of the lowest health pools in the game using the lightning whip skill from the dagger line…

Mind you, I get the whole “we want element swapping” thing, but it also strikes me that some of us might prefer one more than the rest? Maybe I wanna cause the earth to rise up and swallow a whole city… or maybe I should bring the weather with me, or light fires under anything and everyone that gets in my path (R.I.P Cynn and setting Mhenlo on fire), or cause all the water to pour out of (or freeze and shatter within) my enemy/drop ice commets on them etc… and do those things specifically (element specialization) which the current system hints at, but doesn’t actually perform as…

This was only my personal favorite example, but Yes…back to the original point, more skills IS harder to balance, there will be meta builds that crop up all over the place, BUT GW1 answered this by making the skillbar your limit, gw2 could add more weapons, or maybe have different sub-types of the same weapons…or a selectable “style” set of skills (real fighters are trained in many ways, but all have a personal favorite spot they like to be in)… the balance nightmares are worth dealing with imo, because it added so much flavor to gw1 that certainly lacks in this dept thus far (keep praying for more weapons in general with different skills)

Let us trade in level 80 characters for gold

Inimicus.7162

It’s not getting a lvl 80 that should be profitable, then everyone will want to swap at the end of a dungeon just to lvl their alt and it’ll just ruin the fun for everyone and lead to lots of discussions. It’s the reward for world completion that should be more than just 2 pieces of a map which are useless if you’re not going for a legendary. Adding 25g to that chest wouldn’t be a bad idea considering the effort it takes to get world completion.

THIS! OMG…THIS. As for “Not alt friendly” I’m flat-out ignoring ascended armor and only making ascended weapons for skins to throw over exotics cause they asc skins I happen to like have stats that I despise putting onto weapons (healing on the white/gold, seriously?). The time gates business is annoying for sure, but I’m ok with it because that can be gotten around with the AH, for me it’s all that fluff you have to go do annoyingly specific things to go get (dragonite from world bosses for me, i hate that mess every bit as much as champ farming trains)… It’s something I can swallow a certain amount of, but come on… 500 dragonite/empyreal/bloodstone for every weapon, 200 for every armor piece (1200 per suit across 6 pieces)…

AND where it gets alt-unfriendly…all that horrid grind across my 12 80s? 15 if you count the second mule account i keep for hiding legendary progression items…
Even just the 5 or who I frequent…

Basically pointing out here that: No, this is not alt-friendly… and something extra for the things you can only do once per character (personal story, map completions, etc) would make for a decent reward for doing it so often.

And before anyone calls me crazy, consider: I have multiples of different classes set on different races to grab a different look/feel and occasionally a different racial elite because having those option makes things LESS BORING for me personally. Not being so epic bored of locking it in on a single “main” comes at the price of needing to do semi-epic grinds multiple times (account bound mess for ascended, AR on items because account bound fractal level only helps that mess so much), and a little extra reward for preferring to do it this rather unique way would be very welcome.

And if you still think I’m crazy, I’m not…you’re just too boring an individual with your 1 or 2 characters to understand

A QoL change to Daily Achievements

Inimicus.7162

Mentioned several time already throughout this long, long post… I like the idea of the leaderboards NOT reflecting daily/monthly progress… BUT:

Something that can be done without effecting anything else, wipe the boards of all points gained from daily/monthly and have the boards ONLY reflect the 5 daily and 40 monthly points required to get your laurel and monthly goodies box. The top XXXX will see their leaderboard numbers drop through the floor likely, but their status will still be perfectly maintainable, AND the wipe will also weed out anyone who doesn’t/didn’t focus on the more permanent achievements that anyone and everyone (even brand new players) are able to get with some work (slayer, emperor, hero things pvp, wvw, etc).
Drop a date for this as anyone hoping to break into the nosebleeds of the leaderboards WILL want to know just how much time they have to catch up, but otherwise leave EVERYTHING exactly the same. So the change really is more of a cosmetic one to the boards themselves, and only the minimum number of daily/monthly points to catch your rewards are counted from hence forth. Everyone keeps their current AP, Living story AP gain/system is not affected (sorry, this one I do feel is on you if you really want the leaderboard that bad), everyone else can pad their reward chest AP with extra points from dailies.

Full disclosure: I have a boatload of APs but I’ve never really chased them from the standpoint of “gotta be the world first,” just hammered some dailies, monthlies and only ground out the last bits of things when they started getting close, and now only chase extra dailies to pad my next achievement chest gain… i ignore pvp and wvw (used to wvw, and i miss not being stuck in the jq/bg/sor perma claptrap since the matchup policy shift) but yea…not a leaderboard chaser, just someone with a fancy amount and a somewhat different take on a way to ease the leaderboard chaser’s pain without having any real effect on anyone else

I admit that I’ve come to hate the ranger I once loved specifically because of many, many issues the required pet causes in groups, even when soloing sometimes and the nerfs to my once loved class specifically to enforce the things dominance of the class mechanics (gripes for a different post)…but pets I want to see:

Crocodiles, friend from GW1 named their’s Gucci <3
Rainbow Phoenix (agreed with above: Seriously, what happened here?)
Dolphins, though there is one hint that the Whispers train them for defense…maybe to mark mines and kill enemy divers? cough

Need more dogs, maybe a Saint Bernard or Husky-type but not a wolf (love my drakehound Courage..Scooby was way too obvious) <3

More sharks (hammerheads maybe, or something similarly distinctive)
More gnarled, ugly things dredged up from the dark ocean depths, like the armored fish (mine is named Perty) <3
Along the raptors line, I prefer the angorodons or those nasty earth elemental ones with shockwave, sliver armor, twisting jaws and unusually thick skin. (the pain…the horror…)
Then things from other, yet unmentioned campaigns from GW1, Tigers, Lions (already got bears, oh my) the non-rainbow phoenix (imperial iirc), Crabs (if someone gives you crabs deal with it…I cant go anywhere without catching “harpies” these days it seems) And a ranger golem pet could be cute… I get that it’s out of line with the whole nature thing, but still..since many Asuran golems do seem to present the functional intelligence of a “talking dog”
And many others I am sure I’m leaving out

Same old request though, I don’t see why I still have to jump those hurdles once “Trahearne’s Unity Claptrap” as one npc refers to it, brings the orders together… or the reason the weapons cost 5g each ><

Dragonite Ore Hell

in Suggestions

Posted by: Inimicus.7162

Inimicus.7162

The basic issue here is the amount needed… 500 dragonite for every vision crystal (the only part of ascended weapons that can’t be bought whole or even in part via the trade post).

If you are insane and frankly kinda OCD about character appearance as I, making a full set of ascended weapons for the skin, stats or both is enough dragonite to keep me bored and not enjoying my time spent in game for a very long time.

When this stuff first landed I personally threw away anything over 1 full stack of the ascended mats because “250 should be enough to go on, right? Yea.” NOPE…to make a set of asc weapons just for the skin (seriously, why did the healing stat get the white/gold theme?) for a warrior (yes, fml) you need something on the order of 6000 dragonite…maybe 3000-4000 realistically for the weapons you might actually use, and coming in 30 at the time (if you can catch the temples running), or 150-ish per night is just too slow.

The stats/skins thing mixed with the fact that the increase in effectiveness is almost null (5% was it?) means I’ve started only making the healing skined ones to transmute onto exotic quality weapons because there is no way on earth I’m making 2 sets for stat/skin.

Just pointing out that I agree with the OP, the rates this stuff is gained vs the headache/boredom of spending all my time in game chasing world events I never really cared for is uncalled for. I wish the stuff would appear in other places, drop a whole lot more off the smaller(ish) events that give it (aka-15-30 for things like the jungle wurm, sb, golem etc which give so little that your time is better spent browsing the guesting menu to find active temples and dragons), or reducing the amounts needed in the recipes themselves. Preferably less needed and more places in general to get it (my favorites are the dungeons (except fractals), jumping puzzles, and those weird semi-puzzle type places littering the explorer tree of the achievements pane)

What a nonsense, sorry

Go read the Guild Wars 2 Novel Books and say bye to your outdated way of thinking

While i pretend to do that you might go pretend to read statements from the dev’s on the same topic… the world of gw2 just isn’t big enough yet to warrant mounts beyond a few possible special circumstances (a repeatable mission or event where i get to move and control a charr/pact tank beyond just the turret would be in order here), and I’m not saying your argument doesn’t make sense… just that mounts for getting places would just be a moot point, so until they release much larger, emptier expanses of land… mounts will not need be a priority for them, that’s all.

Also, take a walk across the longest unbroken stretch of tyria, GW1 and GW2, from the ends of the maguuma to the opposite side of ascalon, it won’t take nearly as long as you think if you don’t get sidetracked a lot (maybe 1-2 hours gw1 without running builds and depending on party, and only about 1, if that, in gw2, more if you turn it into Sherman’s March)

I vote we leave mounts to the realms of town clothes etc (like the tunneling tool or the broomstick) and instead of mounts, maybe some real easy to break movement buff (easier than entering combat, like proximity or being “spotted” or aggro’d by npcs) since I seem to recall that only really nasty people like slavers rode mounts in GW1

And definitely put them into the mystic forge rather than BLC weapon tickets, while they are way more fair than the situation in the first halloween/wintersday, they are still real rough to get (bought the 25 key bundle from the gem store a couple times, and 1 or 2 ticket scraps from so many —needing 10 for a single ticket mind you-- seems to be about average from bulk buys like so)… more permanent crafting/forging/drop/token gear would be excellent

the point is simple, this is cultural tier 3 human, it should never ever been put to sell in the gem store, even worst for all races… this is CULTURAL ARMOR. end of story. otherwise next time would be some legendary weapon skins on the store

Again, I question the need for “culture armor” since 3/5 races are basically identical from the standpoint of structural appearance.
Don’t give me any lip about that statement either, from a design standpoint there is no real difference between humans and sylvari, and if you examine the armor appearances between those two and the norn, its basically the 3d version of what MS Paint calls “sketch/skew” with only a very few, specific anomalies. ALSO, i should point out that in GW1, you could buy cultural armors from the other races, so i see no reason to be so discriminating here.
and i must state a further lack of compassion to your view because i’ve already put down $100 worth of gems specifically towards that armor and other things surrounding it, so even if you spent 2000 english pounds, if you didnt buy that armor skin then you still dont have any money at stake.
I also say the best solution is to make the original problem worse and go hog wild and flamekiss everything cultural so anyone’s special sacred armor can flamekiss my butt and the normal cultural armor vendors can make some new T4-T6 (or preferably T1b-T3b) shinys for us.

So... any problems with Norn height?

in Norn

Posted by: Inimicus.7162

Inimicus.7162

Norn’s height was actually nerfed at one point because of that “slowness” factor…issue is that getting to be that size, to be moving at a proportionally proper speed for the structure of the body the norn would have to be moving at almost 150% the normal movement speed of any other race… before when norns were (correctly i believe) taller than Charr, the size vs movement would have suggested that a real live version would be “jogging” at a full 200% the speed (or at least, because of balancing in all ways, to keep the actual distance traveled vs the movement of the body in synch, the norns body motions were slowed by about half, and currently are about 3/4 of what they really look like they should be when just running) so the slowness is all perception..i still remember the first time i made an asura, i thought i was zipping along at light speed until some norn with a passive 25% movement buff left my zippy little butt in the dust moving all slow and stuff :P

Agreed with the jumping puzzles and areas with low cielings and/or lots of hanging weirdness (final boss’s room in honor of the waves, path 1), it’s just something you will have to try and see if you can get used to it… going from norn to human/sylvari on jumping puzzles caused many, many falls to my death, and then the asura actually can jump onto things when jumping beside them looks like they really can’t :/

Would it be wrong to ask them to kill the wurm or troll out of order instead since i never make it to those in time anyway?

Joking aside, to present something useful, I suggest either making the out of rotation targets scale way more severely (the oak in queensdale can be soloed in 5-10 minutes depending of class for goodness sake), or buff the ones who are dead by the time the 10th man in line arrives in firing distance? (wurm, troll, norn of FGS, and bandit (especially), oak, and spider of the Queensdale circuit?
Basically have a higher starting health pool for all the quickies, scale them very steeply for the first 4 players (to be fair since normal party is 5) and only further buff the ones who last 10 seconds to take at least 30 for those of us who don’t have graphics settings on macro/hotkey?

i dont want a replaced armor skin i bought this skin becouse i like this skin and now arenanet want change what has sold me! ITS SIMPLE new skin for new buyers and to us thats had bought dont CHANGE NOTHING! simple, right and fair.

In another forum someone replied to my expression of this by spouting off about illegal account sales and how much the accounts who got this will be worth… A valid point, though anyone caught doing that will have said accounts terminated, and anyone still dumb enough to try buying gold outside the gem store kinda deserves what comes if their account gets stolen (which it very well might be), again…price of dealing with brigands. I think it has more to do with the complaint about the armor looking “too similar” to its obvious mesh donor, though I have questioned the need for specialty armors by race since day one. The issues back then included things like nude character preview bugs, and buggy preview panes (your legs might vanish from your body), and then the armor being skinned around one specific race supposedly allows the mesh to be custom fit (I DISAGREE: Norn T2 heavy shoulder -yes, 1 shoulder- armor on female characters is conspicuously gigantic ala CoF light shoulder for female Norn, seriously). But again, I get the feeling that I am in the vast minority on the lack of need for special race-bound armors… Yet also, I need to point out, that some of those issues were solved as the Flamekissed armor DID address some of those issues, the epaulets had the bit wraping around the back of the head cut away (horrid hair clipping issues from this…it was an improvement), and I would wager the shoulders were altered from their original state because they are quite large on human females, which typically would mean a Norn female wearing the same would appear to have shoulder armor made by the same people who made those awful weapons from many other games and anime who are multiple times the size of the fool weilding them Oo

I would like to point out I made several sets of t3 cultural armor “legit” as some might call it…grinding dungeons and w/e…it took weeks but really was not so hard that I felt up in arms over the flamekissed armor…Actually I was quite happy to see this come out.
I really think a good solution would be to go ahead and make the original bone of contention that led to our money being put into limbo far far “worse” and flamekiss all the cultural armors.. then nobody can say anything about “why isn’t my armor special” cause all of them won’t be, and i’ll be recieving exactly the thing that I bought and I won’t need to question surrounding purchases I made directly linked to said armor (and buying more if this happens and lingers for enough pay cycles)
question to whether the reskin holds water is if they will use the same mesh or keep the same “feel” of the set (set screams gw1 15k ele armor the way only like 2 other cloth sets do), and how well it meshes around norns and sylvari, both whom i went all out with this stuff to finally make good looking, and both of whom have very terrible issues with the way their meshes make certain armor pieces appear (norn shoulders across the board..even communist khoptev wouldn’t support that revolution…then sylvari’s HUGE foot gear, or culture armor that eats the breasts off that misshapen badonkadonk model…the only sylvari choice with said anatomy Oo).

I’d like a dev to answer these because this whole debacle has me really riled up, here it goes:

The armor will be re-skinned, but are you still going to use the same mesh?
If so, just how different will be made, indeed, why aren’t those flames enough to set it apart from the existing culture gear?
…Those flames make dye jobs tricky, and the armor overall has less flexibility than the actual racial armor because of that.

Refunds will be available after the re-skin:
If I don’t like them, what will be done about other things purchased around the prospect of having that skin? Including a character slot, hair change kit for the style and color, and a staff skin who are of no use if the new skin isn’t an acceptable substitute, a couple other makeover kits for existing characters who also now wear this armor, and gems to gold transfers for gems, upgrades and materials to craft a set for stats?
Will there be some kind of rollback, or will I be given kits and such to replace those used? And should I bother playing at all until a decision is made regarding if a rollback is needed (As far as I see, a simple refund will still leave me losing money for things who purpose is rendered void by the removal of the thing which spurred the purchase, and then I would be stuck spending that refund on makeover kits to undo changes made useless not by my own doing)

Yes, this one has me up in arms… I have real money in limbo and frankly the other two flame themed armor sets have my hopes of the reskin being good with no farther knowledge somewhere more depressing than abysmal. Also some clarification to the “refunds” as to other purchases made for this armor who clearly isn’t returning would offer at least the comfort of knowing what i can hope to get back since I’m not feeling the love or hope of the reskin turning out well

I honestly think CM armor is some kind of scam, the player version is identical in mesh, but needlessly beaten up, clearly someone died fighting a freight train wearing it. I think all versions of that particular armor should have had the polished look from the start and should be redone for that specific fix (all you can really do now is dye it black to hide the damage..which ISN’T present on the armor of the npc selling it to you btw)

Alaskia Crow’s armor too (old pictures of armors listed it as “tribal” but other than her ghost, it can’t be seen anywhere)
and moar guild wars 1 armors of all types with as little change to the skins as possible…preferably not all added in the gem store would be my vote

Flamekiss solution idea

Its a screwed pooch, people are going to lose real money over this one way or the other… why the cultural armor are some kind of sacred has always been a decision I don’t understand, and frankly fewer people would have anything to say if they just opened ‘em all up… They would need to get far more specific than just simply giving me my money back because I will be left with other purchases that will either cost some of that returned money to undo (makeovers), or things like the character slot for a new norn mesmer with a gem store staff who has no more reason to exist if this redo skin is anywhere near as horrible as the medium/heavy choices (or basically isnt REAL close to what the flamekissed skin is now) and the gems to gold transfers to make sets with decent stats to apply the skins, dyes, mods etc…
I at least will need an account rollback of some kind if their new skin doesn’t deliver something especially miraculous above and beyond all their other attempts at designing new armor skins (yes i’m picky, but hey, it’s what guild wars 1 and 2 are all about after 80 and story, and this time i’ve actually given up irl hardware buys to get these things, so i’m especially mad about this one). Issue too with said rollback, it would need to be awfully specific and i know more than just me made quite a few buys around finally getting a good armor for races hard to make look right..only that i have to question every time i log in and think about progressing anything because a rollback (delayed as this is apparently going to be) means high chance of losing anything i try to do until then.
I see the two easiest solutions to put something solid out there right now.
Either say, its gone (and make it gone so we can start the process of returns/rollbacks or w/e to get money and damage from now useless satilite purchases,
Or throw the entire “t3 is sacred and special to that specific race” to the wind and go hog wild with flame touched or any other weird particle effects you care to add, culture no longer has its weird and uncalled for standing, people whos money is in limbo will have a solid answer and I, for one would likely spend more eventually if the skins stayed around long enough because a number of them (all t3 charr, t3 medium norn, t3 heavy asura and others likely) are things i would love to have some facsimile of not bound to the given race, and nobody loses any money.

infinite vertical progression has been achieved without ever having to specifically introduce progressively uglier and harder skins to get for a questionable stat that only actually works in specific instances and you have less than a 1/24 chance of getting cause every1 else’s alts have way more DKP than your main with the constant push of moar moar moar every year they stack another tier….
or later they just raise the current cap of level 50 fractals about 5-10 and you gotta spend 10,000 gold to make that ar hit 50+….

Basically I’m agreeing that it sounds like the price needs to be made a bit more gradual since you do currently lose all the effort from the previous infusion.
The idea of modifying the existing one does sound good imo, but the current kink in that plan is that it’s something tough to do without a mystic forge process, and zammoros always eats upgrades when something gets sent into the giant swirly

I’m really upset for not buying the default flamekissed armor before it was removed and am certain that I will not like the new version

another thing is instead of hastily removing newly released armor skins,
how about some warning next time like…
“Limited time armor skin sale that will end in the next 48 hours.
This armor skin will be replaced by a new version due to popular demand”

this is a troll thread sir, several other threads out there to talk about how folks like us who coughed up real dough are getting screwed cause some1’s panties got into a twist over not wanting to pay, now which ugly lowbie armor set do you think is going to replace our stolen epicness?

why not? they kitten ed off both sides and have announced they will screw the ones who coughed up real money… for what it’s worth, both the left hand doodles are much closer to what many paid for, but I’m totally gong ballistic if they pinch off another set with some horrid asymmetric shoulders, thus far they have exactly ONE set of such shoulders done truly right, and it doesn’t really go with a whole lot of anything: “Pit Fighter” heavy shoulders…. many gripes from the past, all ignored totally…that horse is long dead… but other than the asymmetric shoulder, it’s ok (still not what i coughed up real cash for) :/

Cultural 3 Armor Skin?

those rather tacky flames are quite enough difference imo, i’ll state all the time i keep myself constantly broke farming for t3 armors and other wealthy goodies, but 119g isn’t too bad or stressful overall, especially since you don’t actually have to have the full amount there when you purchase… Call it a cheap, tacky knockoff, i call it the second coming because i can finally start putting all my 16 year old human jail bait toons to bed and start playing characters who actually look old enough to drink

Though I agree, the best solution isn’t pushing this reskin thing, its forging ahead and opening up more top tier armors from other races (bet charr medium and heavy t3 would look sweet if done right around a human/norn). Hell, doing that would make me less skeptical that i got scammed into a bait and switch here since i also went all out on other stuff tied directly to that armor, the reasons for all those purchases are void, and the refund line in that post leaves a lot to be desired because I would still lose money undoing other changes if not individually addressed (with lots of other people)

Cultural town clothes meant for Wintersday.

In the world who celebrates it, a lot of people either don’t dress up special (PJ’s ftw), or they find the most tacky sweaters, hats and socks on the face of the earth and wear them around. (Some dress up for a special Mass, church clothes, Christ + Mass = Christmas, and is still practiced)

Beyond history and etymology, I like the idea of cultural town clothes, but suggest at the point of adding that, they need an account-wide town clothes locker (like the pvp ones) cause storing all that stuff would be as dreadful as all the real life ugly wool sweaters (tacky), hats and socks (from last Wintersday, stuff is no joke).

Because dusters and trenchcoats = bad***. The universal laws of videogame logic says so!

Yet no armor in the entire game looks like Snake Pliskin did in Escape From LA
My personal favorite mediums are the Norn T1 and T3 sets, on females the T1 still comes awful close to being a trench/duster, but its not bad when mixed right. I just hate having to turn to T3 Human, Norn, or that duelist chest (none of who dye well with anything) with Vigil leggings (same dye issue) to attempt to break out of the trench warfare stalemate that medium armor has been locked in since launch. The recent gem store addition (who came out with “phalanx heavy” but name i forget) is probably their best stab yet at a full suit of medium without weirdness (norn t2 chest covers the forearms of gloves, and all of them just dont dye right), though I would still like to see something a bit more down to earth along the way, without the duster, weird, weird dye shading, strangely placed bits (vigil medium shoulder, im lookin @ U) or rather eye bending single bit (can’t get my head around the female human t3 with SANDALS (named Assassin’s BOOTS…really?) Don’t get me started on shoulders…. that old dead horse hasn’t any flesh left to beat. sigh

The future new light Flamekissed

I suggest the following. I don’t know how the new Flamekissed will look like. I may like it and may not. If it’s cool, I’ll keep it. If it’s ugly like heavy and medium (no offence, just my own point of view) I want a refund. It’s great you’ve listened to the players and decided to remake the skin, but now the ones who spent their real money and bought gems for THIS VERY LOOK, are an aggrieved party and have to wait and guess what they will look like. Plainly saying, they’ve bought a pig in a poke. That’s no deal at all.

I require that after the change of this armor skin you refund the displeased players the spent gems and give them 6 Transmutation Gems to change the armor appearance.

If ArenaNet rectify their error, then they should do it accordigly to all the sides – those who bought cultural armor and displeased and those who bought a new skin and are now in questions. It will be fair enogh. Players who spent their gems don’t have to pay for Anet’s mistake at all.

As plainly said, removing the armor from the gem store and promising a redux with what is currently a shaky promise of “a full refund” with no idea what the armor will look like (the buyers DID buy THAT skin, not another), puts this into the realms of a bait and switch scam (think of GW1, the scam was to say you are selling 1 item, and put another with an identical icon (valueless) in it’s place), same thing. All be it, they certainly didn’t set out from word go as scammers tend to do, but they need to get very specific, very fast about all the what’s and how’s because my posts point out, that for me (and I refuse to believe I was the only one), a lot more real money went into other things that cost money to undo other ways, and that’s going to become a REALLY time consuming mess for the poor souls who have to go through line item to find and fix any and all other things surrounding the armor buy. I really think that making the original gripe (My T3 armor look is sacred to me..or whatever, same diff) worse by including more t3 armors would make more people happy, and fewer really mad. Sorry, but 119 gold is not hard to get (I have 4 full sets of T3 armors done 100% without gem buys, and a number of other single pieces to make mixed armor sets, IT AINT A LEGENDARY WEAPON), and I would be totally giddy if suddenly all these other T3 sets (all be it with those kinda awkward flames this time around lol) became available at a discount because gems would need to go north of 10g/100gems (by quite a bit, probably near 12g/100gems) to cause the prices to level between the sets, and yet..the sets still aren’t truly the same.

Gotta admit, the sadist in me says those who say their T3 is sacred need to have it knocked back down to it’s rare base stats to point out that they actually only bought a skin too

EDIT: i’m not rich at all btw… each set took me weeks, and the fact is that grinding out all that t3 has left me quite broke all the time… got the mansion, the porche and mercedes in the driveway, but no furniture in the house cause thats how i roll ;P

That VIP pass sounds really juicy… Zepher sanctum, queen’s arena/gauntlet, the year 1 mad king fight, and lest we forget the wintersday/halloween jump puzzles <3

That commander thing seems interesting, but as of the first wintersday I believe 4000 gems turned to gold would get you far more than 100g needed for the normal commander’s book, so some of those changes might be useful to add to what’s already there… the flare thing though, the commanders i see running our wvw generally don’t want to be seen by enemies

The housing sort of exists in the home instance, but i think it would be fun to have other goodies beyond the odd resource node or weird skill point to throw into there, and guild housing is something that has gotta come sooner or later… GW1 had it all hardcore in the form of Guild Halls, tournament GVG, etc…. I keep hoping that will be brought in eventually… and the mining nodes, food buffs, etc would be more at home as part of the guild hall imo so as not to make some things too much easier for those who can get the gems. Permanently placed guild banners at the guild hall with the feast (nourishment), smithy (the wrench buff cause it’s a wrench and not an arrow or staff thing) and potential portals all being available though guild tokens and influence (been a very long time since I’ve even thought of those being in a maxed out guild, but at least then it IS a group achievement, done by means that anyone has access to without “feeling compelled to spend real money to stay viable” as the naysayers would nay.)

Wow, love them all!

The Dervish isn’t really covered by the GW2 professions, I think, but I think they were not too happy with this profession in GW1. Still, it could be possible that a Dervish returns in GW2, maybe with changes to the lore aspect.

The derv is around, spell casting tank.. guard. They remvoed the robes, and removed the scythe (except for staff skins which aint good enough imo) and upgraded to heavy armor.. but the overall concept is closer to derv than say, a monk tank because the guard isnt totally devoid of damage :P

My personal choice is the original ranger (total ranged dps and annoying all evade builds, not chained to a pet in any way at all), and original ele… gotta say i’m hardcore disappointed in what those 2 turned out to be (gimme my dual attuned lightning hammer, or invoke/chain lightning and we all know exactly where you can shove your earth, water and fire

full refund for… the armors bought? for other things bought too? real money (where applicable) or gems? rollback of any kind? items to undo any further changes made if the full thing isnt covered?
The post’s lack of specificity leaves much to be desired because a “full refund” still leaves me personally losing real money to undo some of the other purchases/changes I made specifically centered on getting that one specific set.

Keeping the skin for those who purchased it already would make a super-exclusive-extra-shiny-mega-limited-ultra-rare discontinued version of the most popular light cultural armor and suddenly make some accounts worth $1000s if sold illegally.

That’s more damaging than actually keeping the armor available.

On a refund note, people paid RWM for the gems. They get those gems back. No further entitlement as their purchased product was returned.

As i said in my own post since… Anet’s toes are right up to the lines of it becoming bait and switch scam because the armor is one buy, and other purchases could be linked, maybe a new hair-do or a makeover? new weapon skin? maybe they used some of those gems to top off a full set of crafted/bought armor? runes? dyes? etc… remove the armor, or replace with something that isn’t so close as to make the redux pointless and the reason for further purchases made beyond that armor set become void, and not refunding those too (or the money and changes made with other buys) might border possible legal issues is the nasty end of my point.

Simple man, so time for simple terms: Yes, I do understand some of the hubbub, however, I see potential legal issues if they don’t/can’t promise the money back on the gem purchases that went into the buying of the currently contested skin.

Few possible solutions, Return the current one, keep the existing ones, and offer more selections from other races T3 sets as mentioned above.
The reskin on the “human T3 lookalike” as the gripes go, had better be so close to identical (yes, the visible skin, the overall look of the epaulets, the openings all over the “skirt” etc), as to make the reskin nearly pointless
Return money, not gems (I’d even accept an account rollback, or even target it to the changes made specifically with those gem purchases) to remove the other changes made with all but about $5 worth of the $100 I spent on the gems for that armor skin as it is/was)

Else, that pickle i mentioned above is that they are staring down the barrel of a claim to Bait and Switch…yes, a scam. Issue being that I bought more things from them centered around the “bait” (armor skin) and thus far do not see any return in value whether i get all 8000 gems, or just the roughly 4000 spent on just the armor itself (switch).
Hate to go there, I really love the game, but this time they really screwed the pooch.. and yes, a non-fail light armor skin for the norns is worth fighting for.

Feel the need to also mention that they just put themselves in a hardcore pickle because they voided the entire reason for my (and likely many other people’s) gem purchase, so just giving the gems back without a solid promise that they will deliver something else DANGEROUSLY (apparently) close to the current skin makes the reason for dropping all that cash in the first place void, and without said solid promise i would prefer the money over the gems they promised

its an issue with how the armor skins over the mesh of the given race and a number of specific design choices by the devs…

Norns have idiotically gigantic parachute shoulder skins, and a lot of the skirt skins flare out for no reason at all.

Sylvari have the same issue with footware, humans too frequently… all the armors are designed to wrap around the character model, causing issues like above, but still doesn’t explain the hubbub over a reskined culture armor… people really need to rejoice because they can now get their stuff easier and get something good lookin for races that are designed with horrid flaws built in.

And i have a set of normal human t3 light for what its worth… even ground out the gold in dungeons and such, though it isn’t like the gem store never existed, and there are things about the current skin i would love to be able to change (the color of those eyesore fires) but that’s part of the trade i figured

While I am well aware of the plans to reissue the existing flametouched light armor skin, PLEASE let me keep the ones i’ve already bought because I didn’t just drop a huge gem purchase on the armor…A number of other things were bought around that to include a character slot, kasmeer’s staff and a few gems to gold transfers to make armor sets worth wearing a lot.

Main issue: Norns. I really don’t like the way humans are shaped or the rather juvenile faces that come with, and SO many armors have horrid issues with shoulder size/placement on the norn models, this one finally got it acceptable, and I’m very worried that it’s going to be turned into some exceptionally mundane skin as was chosen for the heavy and medium armor models…

Seeing that I doubt the diaper brigade’s damage will be undone, the question arises, i dropped a boatload of money on several sets of this stuff (pve and pvp on several characters) and a fair amount on other things around it… what becomes of the gems spent around those other things?

P.S. please don’t let the re-do become an exceptionally mundane set like the chosen skins for heavy and medium (cheapo karma armor and the trenchcoat mafia’s standard uniform? may i also suggest you retry those 2 sets too?)

@ mtpelion I disagree with using karma to gear up…not since the changes made recently that have put a damper on my karma intake (mostly the major reduction of daily karma), and besides…a few silvers for green quality items is easy enough to come by (to buy a 50 silver item means you gotta go whack like 12 soft wood-yielding trees for lack of higher level stuff to grind…3 logs per tree and typically 1.5s-2s per log lately) but I really recomend green quality gear up to level 60 or 70 (75-ish definitely upgrade to rare/yellow for the home stretch)… but to reskin gear pre-80, map completion… especially the 6 main cities, if you can stand doing it..make several characters just to explore all those maps a few times… i think those areas always give 3 transmutation stones each, and while painful, the stash should build up quickly enough (no need to buy those). This should give a good base for getting to 80 but keep in mind you can not use anything level 80 as part of a transmutation with those, and you will need the more expensive ones (if you get the crystals, save em for when you are 80)… but have at those lower level resource nodes and use em for cash to buy those blindingly neon verdant weapons, brutal flame/bandit skins or some classically fashioned aureate skins…also take a look at all the cultural weapon vendors, some thing you can’t buy without karma (love me some vanguard weapon skins…“Tier 1” for skin and win)

Inimicus.7162

Endgame here is you hit 80, then go chase them shiny! Make your character perty, or monsterous or w/e you so desire <3

Get your gear done up by stat, but also skin them out, get more armor sets since build changes aren’t expensive at all, get a legendary, max them crafts and chase those titles!

The “endgame” here is something that can be forever expanded upon without having to render everyone else’s accomplishments invalid when the next year-long grind for the fancy Tier X+1 gear comes out.
That said, avoid WvW being your endgame… every time i seen people go from pve to WvW it was the final destination before they left to play something else

A Way to solve the Pet Problem

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Inimicus.7162

Inimicus.7162

Problem is that even set to passive (sometimes especially set to passive) the pet still draws aggro to itself… Jade Maw, the Mai Trin boss fight, and others have all been part of a long set of proofs that the entire mechanic (and probably class) need a real strong rethink. It doesn’t help anything that we keep getting nerfed every time we turn around (yet for all the nerfs to include being hammered to oblivion in pve, people still moan about being killed by rangers). But the aggro situation is my biggest beef with the pet. I have my ranger rigged to where it will do decent damage with the pet dead (as it still almost always is), yet thing things that kill me the most are mobs who aggro to a dead or passive pet instead of coming to where I need to place them.

Consider this, the pet can’t be made invulnerable when passive because that would easily lead to heavy exploitation in pvp (invulnerable means it would also be 100% off any npc mob’s radar because even if the pet never attacks, any damage done to it will put it on the “aggro table” for lack of better descriptor), so even passive, if only to prevent exploit situations, it needs to be a target. Yet even with the buffs to health, damage in some cases and fixes to a few abilities…they just don’t last long if anything is paying them direct attention, certainly a veteran mob or beyond doesn’t take much damage from the pet, and many are able to 1 shot the thing because of their especially simple AI (basically attack master’s target at all costs and don’t break off until dead or call off by another target or the heel command).

The ranger is built around these things and makes due well enough without, but the flaws they exhibit are all fatal beyond running around leveling or doing open world stuff, Adding buffs to pet/passive would be great in the meantime…or adding those buff to a permanent stow option, but the entire mechanic should be rethought/redone to unburden the class of literally a dead weight running around beside them. Fix this and you will have lifted 90% of all that is wrong with the ranger as it is now.
