Yeah I was using it yesterday with GS and LB. I actually ran generosity sigils along with them although I might end up doing them since every guardian I ran into was running traps instead of burns.

I was pretty disappointed when I went on the trading post to get a couple for WvW and saw they gave you swiftness on kill outside of pvp.

As a scout/roamer, I would orbit Hills or Bay and run upgrades there. I’d retake/defend camps and escort Dolyaks while also repairing and building siege. If we lost the keep I was scouting, I’d usually switch to yak sniping to ensure the enemy couldn’t upgrade. When I got a chance, I’d do as much damage to w/e wall I could get at. Usually, I was alone for this, but sometimes I had support from other scouts/roamers.

See, this is what’s missing.
Supply camps and dolyaks were the life blood of keeps and the majority of roaming fights revolved around controlling them.

Now they no longer matter. Structures will be fully upgraded unless they are constantly being flipped (not attacked to drain supply but fully flipped).

Fighting around keeps before did give an advantage to one side because they could use the doors and guards, but it was still a fight. Now the gimmicks completely break that. Try fighting a d/d ele that can Perma stealth and tell me there is no problem with that.

- Typical hour for me would be solo roaming or up to around 5 people. What I did depended on the opposition I ran into. Sometimes I would take a camp or tower and spend hours fighting roamers to defend it. Often I would work on draining a keep by cutting off supply camps and setting up sneaky catas. Even if I couldn’t take the keep because they were turtling I could keep it paper.

-Not a fan of EB but the play style was generally the same.

-On the new BL it took me about an hour just to take the 1 tower closest to spawn because they locked +5 behind PvE crafting, they increased G cata supply cost to 50, and the walls automatically fortified. I tried to hit the fire keep but it was already full supply since upgrades don’t cost anything, and it was impossible to keep supply cut off while hitting it solo since the run between camps took so long. When I tried hitting it from the south I lost my first cata to random PvE fire balls that didn’t start shooting until it was fully built. In multiple places my pet would randomly burn to death even though we were on what appeared to be solid ground and I was taking no damage.

-In the Alpine bl the combat was a lot more frequent since players you killed could wp and run back a lot faster. There was also less cheesy mechanics like the sandstorm the stealths entire groups of people. When I was hitting the fire keep I had a second player join me and when a group hit us we wiped them out in a 2v6, after that they wouldn’t fight us anymore, likely because it takes so long to run back. Instead they just prevented us from building anything by building siege or jumping down to kill whatever we tried to build when we made the 3+ minute resupply run. The only fights I could find were near objectives and the objectives offer a gimicky advantage (like stealth or burning) to 1 side.

-It takes so long to take an objective that it’s not worth doing it in a group of less than 8.

-The loot is non existent for roamers.

-Solo roaming is dead for me. I won’t be spending nearly the same amount of time in WvW.

- The Alpine map should be returned to the bl’s. The new map should be put on a weekly rotation with EB. It’s designed for zergs and it’s too big to have 3 copies of it per match. A zerg can bust through the baracades cutting off the center off the map in seconds which would make the map a lot easier to traverse.

-The new bl is like a big PvE dungeon that requires you to spend in game currency to buy siege so you can break through objectives to fight the bosses. You will need a large party to run this dungeon and occasionally you might run into other parties who will hide on walls and throw things at you.

-One of the SPvP maps.

They aren’t knocking you back, they are teleporting you. It should be able to be countered with stealth stomp, function gyro, port stomp, and possibly invuln stomping like mistform( haven’t tested that last bit)

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s rank 10. You have to start out in hot join (which is a good way of driving off new players)

People don’t like change that’s the biggest problem. Even if the map was 100% perfect there would still be threads with people whinging.

PPK received a ton of positive feedback, golem rush… not so much.

For 3 years players have been asking for less gimmicks and less PvE in WvW, anet went the opposite way with this map.

Maybe it’s that thing where they want to keep each class unique, and swoop having 2 and rocket charge having 3 felt way to similar, so the obvious solution was to nerf swoop right?

So after playing pvp yesterday and watching scrappers triple leaping through their water fields multiple times during in every fight, I had to wonder why swoops double leap was nerfed.

Any thoughts on this? I mean they had already broken healing spring by that point so the combo wasn’t even that affective anymore.

Also, search and rescue really needs to be looked at and made comparable to the function gyro.

Not standing in lava or being hit by anything, they are just constantly burning to death in a lot of areas in and around the keep.

I know this must be a bug since the Hall of Monuments pets are available to players that have never played GW1.

15 for pvp only, 30 if you could use them in WvW

The Hot upgrade for rangers is the broken mess called druid. Pets are a rangers profession mechanic and the new ones should be available in PvP.

The maps aren’t the real problem. The problem is we still don’t have build templates.

Alpine needs to be put back in the rotation….. or they could just put it back and let the new crappy map rotate with eotm. That’s where that PvE bullkitten belongs.

If you have no utilities to flee, you are doing it wrong, you also have weapon skills for that and pet skills. Rangers need a “steady hand”.
Rangers are most definitely “unparalleled archers” there can be no debate on that, we are very capable of “bringing down foes from a distance with…bows”, see forum QQ for that, or just plain experience.
So, “with traps, nature spirits, and a stable of loyal pets at their command, rangers can adapt to any situation”.

When you flat out ignore the description the game gives and say you can’t use other things that is purely a flaw.

Keen eye has nothing to do with perma stealth thief that can steal from 1200 range. Maybe the low tier servers lack skilled thieves? The weapon skills were based off the above mentioned longbow and longbow but thanks for proving you cannot read.

I’ve played on every tier and have never run across a thief that is sitting around Perma stealthed on the off chance someone will pass by.

But for arguments sake lets say they are sitting in a field constantly re-stealthing. How hard is it to hear them blasting or leaping through their field? Are we not supposed to use our hearing and only focus on what our keen eyes can see because you have some lore attachment to rangers sight?

Um, with the new changes the pet can keep up much better with a strafing enemy. Remember, it will get a 30% speed increase, 20% CD reduction on its abilities and if you are going for a power build you can get zephyr for super speed on pet and for kiting.

Not to mention that you do not have to spec into MM anymore if you want a functioning Longbow. Playing a power build and going into WS,NM and BM is viable, is it not? Clarion bond is cool and all but what will you use it to blast on? You do not need pet swiftness either due to the 30% speed boost. Opening strikes is bad and quite honestly you will get nothing out of predators and steady aim. Lead the Wind is not needed. The whole line is worth it for either LtW or Remorseless but I would argue that you will get far more value out of the other lines.

I am aching to try this build in PvP:

WS:
-Oakheart salve, Refined toxins (only for the negative healing effect), Wilderness mastery
NM:
-Instinctual reaction, Evasive purity and Nature ward
BM:
-GftE, Natural healing and Zephyr swap

Pets: Fern hound and Jungle stalker

utilities: TU, Zephyr, LR, XXX, Entangle

Opening strikes is going to be a lot better now that we can reactivate it with fury. Don’t have to worry about wasting it on aegis or anything now.

I agree. Cats are fine for pve but birds are a lot more reliable in pvp.

Some of the "forced disagvantage " claims in this thread are comical. Everyone has equal opportunity to aquire the same ascended armor.

Everyone has equal opportunity to work for a living as well but some people chose to stay at home and grind in a game instead. We also have equal opportunity to have someone knee us between the legs for five to ten hours straight with the promise of strengthening our groins against future encounters, doesn’t mean it’s time and effort well spent for everyone.

Pug tag means a commander that leads the random people that haven’t found a regular group to run with.

AR has a ton of small roaming/havok groups running most of the day. During North American prime time a lot of the guilds like to do their own runs and they don’t put up a commander tag because they don’t want random people following them.

We almost never have more than 1 person tagged up for the pugs but if you join one of the bigger guilds you shouldn’t have a problem finding people to run with.

LGN, LXG, TM, ALS all open recruit and will help you learn the ropes. Once you find your footing you can check out some of our smaller roaming guilds. If you come to AR make sure you have team speak and a thick skin because we love to kitten with each other over TS. It weirds me out when I listen to other servers TS and how polite and boring they are.

im glad you asked. there are many things you can do. I was thinking about running 2 shouts (HaO and RaO), 3 signets (SoR, SoS, SoW); remorseless/empathic bond/beastly warden. so you get double stability, a stunbreaker, very low CD heal. you can also do 3 shouts and 2 signets for double invuln and double stab. GS/s/axe. with Remorseless, you can probably run mostly cavalier stats.

if you want more CC than an aoe taunt every 15s, you can go with a quickdraw/trap build in which you just slot spike trap for the knockdown. something like 0/6/6/0/6. add entangle to that, so then you have aoe taunt, knockdown, and aoe immob as icing on the cake. of course, as an experienced ranger, you’d be casting entangle on the backliners when your zerg penetrates to the rear. you would also be using Path of Scars liberally to fish people out of the safety of their zerg. so that’s a ton of hard CC.

the frontline build is probably the second one i’ll test, and when I come up with something that works i’ll put out a guide. ive always been interested in the frontline ranger.

You’d be better off running main hand axe over sword. The swords animations screw with your movements way too much when you are trying to push through a zerg. It’s fun to leap frog your way through them to the back but it doesn’t help you stay on tag.

PvP is not the same as WvW at all, no comparison really.
And frankly with Isle of Janthir, EToM is the same deal. Dominating server, can do little to fight back. And yes, we NEED more people who want to participate, we NEED more commanders but our server is making them leave, and the people who WANT to fight back and try to stay active for the commanders that DO try, there is little to no reward with a dominant server taking over the WHOLE map.

I was actually playing TODAY. Sorrow’s Furnace pinned us at our starting area. We couldn’t leave without dying. How much fun is that? It isn’t. It sucks.

There are 4 maps and each map has 3 ways to exit spawn. You’re telling me SF had all of those exits covered? I find that hard to believe.

I don’t even try to attack fellow rangers WvW or PvP tbh, but if I am attacked, its like “BETRAYER!” and I go off lol.

I always attack other rangers and target them first in group fights because the majority of them are easy bags.

If I get in a 1v1 with a good ranger I won’t stomp him, I’ll down them, bow and whisper them ”good fight”.

Since the buff to longbow I have run into maybe 3 rangers that have received this treatment.

That’s good, must have fixed that really recently because it was just a couple of months ago that my thief was getting revealed from it while trying to c&d

Someone smarter than me should do the math on this but I’m pretty sure pizza is better than flank steak. Extra ticks is better than a little extra damage upfront that falls off immediately.

That looks a lot better. You should definitely try out entangle instead of rampage as one, you’ll be able to proc your rune bonus way more often and really bump up those bleeds.

Devourers are terrible, stick to birds, cats, dogs, spiders and drakes.

The reason for other builds and gear are other situations where they are useful.

For example,a condi build is great for roaming in WvW but it’s complete garbage in a dungeon.

It’s up to the players to figure out the right build and play style for the situation they are in. If you can’t figure it out on your own other people will help you realize you are being useless by kicking you from the party.

I swore I would never again buy a Logitech after my G600 wore out the left button and the cursor started jumping all over the place after about 4 months of use.

I bought a SteelSeries Rival 6 months ago while in a rush (was leaving for Antarctica for a year and had no mouse) and I’m very happy with it, too bad it only has three extra buttons for binds, because I would use it to play when I get home. Have been looking at getting a full Razer set (laptop, mouse, headset) when I get home, but unsure right now. Plenty of time to decide.

My logitech has been going strong for at least 2 years now, I guess it’s just luck of the draw. The difference is when your naga breaks down you are out 80 bucks instead of the 40 that the G600 costs.

So your idea of a good build is being able to slowly kill open world PvE mobs? By that standard I could run a build that doesn’t even have a weapon equipped and call it effective.

You invested so much in condi damage but you are only able to apply poison and about 4 bleeds, maybe 5 if you’re lucky. For some reason you are running 2 corruption sigils. You only have 1 way to remove condi’s and it’s on a 60 sec cooldown. Your armor is crazy low for a condi build especially considering your lack of damage, and you also invested way to many resources to healing when all you have is a very mediocre heal and no access to regen.

Sword + Axe is current meta for PvE, so it will work. The issue is you don’t want to have auto-attack set on Sword because it locks you out of dodging when you need to … something we’ve been asking for a fix for for a long time now :-/

As such, you’ll likely be carefully (but quickly) pressing the key for your auto-attack throughout each fight.

I do recommend getting a gaming mouse.

I have a naga … it’s my 2nd one … I don’t recommend it … I’m starting to get very annoyed with the mouse drift issue which google tells me is a very common issue with it. I don’t see articles on the g600 having that. I’ve also since then compared the two and it seems each comparison I watch rates the g600 as the better mouse. I’m planning on replacing my naga with a g600.

Yup, that’s what I did. I’ve found the g600 to be an all around better mouse than my naga was and it has already lasted longer.

Look into getting a gaming mouse like a naga or logitech g600. You’ll have enough buttons to map just about everything to it.

He was weighing his group down, but it’s not his fault if the group is dead. Good zerker can solo almost anything, if the group downed because the dps wasn’t good enough that’s their fault for not using their head and switching tactics. Anyway, if only 1 person isn’t zerker it shouldn’t impact the group enough to cause a wipe. If the group died because there wasn’t enough dps, and that a big speculation, then he wasn’t alone not meta.

I hate when bad player just copy paste meta build and put the blame of their death on someone with less dps. They can complain that the guy didn’t comply with the LFG, but if they die because of the lack of dps, that’s because they are just not good enough.

The lower dps is only part of the problem. Agroing mobs and kiting around pulls them out of range of the people dealing damage.

Congrats guys, it’s nice to see the positions going to names I actually recognize.

If any of the dev’s are still paying attention, maybe you can give our new forum specialists access to an alt account with a weekly free transfer. WvW plays very differently depending on what tier you are in.

I don’t know where this hyper obsession with a single play style comes from. I’m a shortbow condition ranger and have absolutely no problem in ANY dungeon or high scale fractal. In fact, as the warriors all pile in to their deaths, I’m usually the one left alive kiting the everloving crap out of the boss and finishing the fight alone.

Range and mobility may not increase dps, but it does allow you to do it SAFELY. When you’re hugging the floor, all that number crunching isn’t worth crap and your dps is 0.

It’s a shame you didn’t because apart from that 1 mistake these would all be good changes, especially the changes to the sword leaps.

As far as the pigs go, I would love the f2 to be replaced by the foraged item the same way steal works on a thief. Or maybe have it forage 2, one that will replace the f2 and another to appear on the ground.

Well as a thief I don’t mind the channeling. What really grinds my gears is that the channeling follows you. So if you channel me you know where I am at all times because your character automatically adjusts to me which kind of defeats the purpose of stealthing in the first place. But oh well, If they do this I guess everyone and their dog will complain about how OP thief is.

Rapid Fire is OP. But since its the only decent source of damage for longbow ranger most people don’t complain and think this is acceptable.

And yet any competent thief should be able to beat a glass LB ranger, and the only situation Rapid fire is complained about is when the ranger is full glass.

I’ve never said it is impossible to kill a ranger. Pretty much agree with what you said but that just shows how bad the ranger design is. Mostly bad abilities with few overpowered ones. Yay balance!

Same could be said about thieves…

I don’t think it will be zergs turtled in keeps unless the keep is being attacked by another zerg. But the smaller group of defenders no longer have to leave the keep to defend their incoming supply. It’s no longer the situation of a keep being 2 or 3 yaks away from an upgrade, now it’s “hmm well I guess we’ll have to wait 10 minutes for this next upgrade to go through instead of getting that yak in so it upgrades in 5. Good thing I have this sup AC to keep me company while I wait.”
