Yeah that’s really one of the big things leaning me more towards Sylvari, the clipping on charr is awful, as is the texture stretching on a lot of armor. :/

I know there was a thread asking specifically what race you were going to be playing, but mines not really related to that, more so, i have a question, or rather, I’m looking for some impressions to help sway my opinion.
I’m currently on the fence between Sylvari and Charr (Yes, Rytlock Fanboy here) and I’m unable to decide between the two, as I’m constantly hopping back and forth.
The thing leaning me more towards Sylvari is that they’re more pivotal to the story in HoT than the Charr.. but that’s about it, any thoughts to help push my opinion to one side?

I like how nobodies talking about how the shield got buffed tremendously, or that all the people going on about save yourselves and dodge roll heals being seperate numbers based between PvP, WvW & PvE have now all been normalized across the board and provide the same numbers no matter what gamemode you’re in.
It’s like as soon as you guys heard “Feel my wraths cooldown is increased to 45 seconds” you all started screaming like mad frothing dogs and completely missed the rest of the presentation, also for all we know, there could be things to counteract the nerf (which is justified IMO) by increasing damage on certain abilities, providing more effects or buffing some utilities to actually be useful.
The change mentioned for FMW was just a TEASER.

I don’t think it was nerfed hard enough to be honest, I feel like the 50% duration is going to make barely any difference.
If they maybe throw on top that Phantasm/clone hits proc revealed on the mesmer, sure, and tone down the amount of boons it gives.
I do trully believe & i know for a fact that i’m not the only one to think so. Ppl miss & or cant handle the free meal gone since patch 23… , especially thieves.
PU was not the problem. It’s the surprise burst we have from our shatters that kill’s. It’s still there. & thank God it is. Or else we have nothing. Our skills & AA damage is way under par vs all other classes. & PU only give mesmers the extra sustain it needs to survive & reset for the next attack. Ppl get frustrated cuz they cant target anything & maintained pressure on the mesmer like they use to.
Mesmer needed improvements, you’re right, but it was given way too many.
Pre-patch, i was horrible with a mesmer, i couldn’t play one for the life of me. After the patch, i turned into a demi-god without even knowing what the hell i was doing.

The ability to summon bosses/mobs into the guild arenas would be insanely fun and bring up a slew of possibilities if you could throw modifiers into the mix.
Things like throwing 20 guildies into an arena with a modifier up that prevents them from attacking and everyones toughness & vitality is set to the same amount, throw in a few bosses.. last one standing wins.

Considering that Mordremoth basically created the Sylvari, he obviously had something planned for them in the long run.
I’m not really Pro or Anti Sylvari, but I will most definitely be maining one in HoT because i think Anet have taken a very interesting turn by pretty much chastising a race like this, I don’t think it’s been done on this level before in an MMO, basically going “Right, these guys are your enemy now.”
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
I think it’s great, you say you want to be able to hear mordremoth on your non-sylvaris so you can experience the story, well guess what? The story doesn’t involve the other races being able to understand mordremoth.
Guess who created the sylvari? Mordremoth.
Guess who have a link with Mordremoth? Sylvari.
Guess who are being turned against the other races of tyria for the sake of the story? Sylvari.
Who, for lore and story reasons should be able to understand mordremoth? Sylvari.
It would make zero sense for any of the other races bar maybe Asura if they invented a “universal dragon translator” to be able to understand and hear Mordremoth.
If you don’t want to experience the dragons ramblings, then don’t, it won’t butcher your story because the voices aren’t meant for YOUR story if you don’t want to play a sylvari.

They’re both pretty bad without each other, but consider this:
Even though Rev can have a high crit chance, you won’t always crit (unless you sacrifice some power for precision i.e. Assassins). This means that your ferocity is useless when you don’t crit.
However, whether you crit or not, you will ALWAYS be using power, If you hit high without crit, you’ll hit higher even with crit, and even higher with ferocity.
So I personally think that ferocity is only useful if you have a high base hit to begin with. better to hit 4k non-crit and 8k crit (Power) than it is to hit 2k non-crit and 5k crit (Ferocity)Did you consider that Revenant can easily reach 100% Crit Chance?
With Perma-Fury, you can hit the exact number you need to reach 100% when you consider the Warrior’s Banners(you can actually get 100% by yourself pretty easily, but this lets you take a few Valk pieces comfortably).Looking at the stats on gw2skills.net shows that they can only reach 100% if using full assassins, which isn’t very feasible as I’ve explained in my previous post. And building full assassins would mean that you’d go over 100% as well, which is wasted.
If you’re using a max dps build (Let’s just say full zerker in this case), you end up with a ~54% crit chance. This increases to 94% with fury and invocation, and goes to 104% if you’re using maniacal persistence. That extra 4% is wasted and if a warrior brings a banner, that’s 24% wasted.
If you’d like to not waste stats, and still have some of the best max dps, you’d use Valk armor. You’d end up ~40% crit chance, boosted to 80% with fury, and going up to 100% with Maniacal persistence (Realistically, only reaching 90% due to how the trait works). Meaning you’d get 100% with a warrior banner, or up to 120%, in which case 20% is wasted.Back to the topic on hand. If a Revenant CAN maintain 100% crit chance, it’s best to try your best and get both stats, simple as that. If you feel like you can’t maintain 100% crit chance, always go for power.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vlAQNAseCUgWAWC2A-ThBBABA8AAyS5Xe6DYUJ4oqBUpqPCCYUA-e
?
Warrior banner pushes it to 100%, not full assassins, could even dump some of the precision if you’re going to be running with a ranger too, because they ‘should’ be using Spotter, which is another 150 precision.
Ignore the 7% crit chance sigil, it’s not needed, was there when i was testing something else.

And damage. Skill 5 does hit really kitten sword.
language filter is so annoying grrrrrrrrrr.Sword #2 deals more dmg, scales better with power, chills, has a higher range, costs less and it’s CD is a third of Sw#5. The only thing you lose is a pull + self-pull
Axe #4 allows for better dmg, another gap closer and whatnot.
I will probably never use Sw OH because Axe or Shield just fit better… Axe for mobility+dmg, Shield for defenseAnd Axe has no block and immobilize as well as no pull/interrupt with huge dmg. We could on like this forever you know. Sword is nice mix between shield (having block) and axe (having dmg and retreat).
When playing Shiro gap closing is not especially hard so I will live without an axe.
You’re underestimating the amount of damage the Off-hand axe does, the gap closer does a pretty high amount of damage, enough to warrant it being used on cooldown, even if you don’t need to close the gap.

Awful, I don’t think you understand just how fast energy would degenerate with -10.
Plus, the ideas you suggested are all pretty poor for the vast amount of energy you would be using, you’d be able to get off one ability while embrace the darkness is up, and that’s really not worth anything that you mentioned, some could argue points for your suggested Unyielding Anguish imbuement, but that’s insanely situational..

…of course you play a war op… explains the post…
What does me playing a Warrior have to do with anything? I play all classes if you’d have bothered to look at my signature, i simply play the warrior more because it’s an insanely easy to play for the sheer amount of output it puts out. It’s the one class capable of carrying pugs through the sheer amount of group damage it brings due to Phalanx, does that make me a bad player? No, not at all, it makes me a smart one. Is it so wrong of me to want the game to be balanced, and not have one class completely permanently stack arguably the strongest boon in the game?
Why do people come on the forum and advocate for the nerfing of a class they claim to main. Because of two button pushing easiness, being cheesy or lack of need to think in order to be good.
Warriors are especially prone to this type of player.
Where the complaints of pushing a button and just running around poisoning everyone nearby, or doing knockbacks from an distance where there’s no fear of retaliation. No complaints or posts being made by the people that main them at least.
Are warriors that strong where folks have to do this crap? If warriors are so simple what does that say about the people who can’t figure out their game play?
I guess if you can’t beat them go to the forums and make up some frivolous problem and run with it.
Are you serious? Personally attacking me because I’ve voiced my concerns on might being too easily attainable by certain classes and builds?
You honestly believe that easy classes that require next to no input or intelligence to gain stupendous results are good for the game? Classes like Phalanx which I use due to how easy it is to carry a group in dungeons, is encouraging poor play and doesn’t offer any attempts at the player improving as a whole. Because they really don’t need too, just camp a greatsword and go to town with the weapon, place banners, done, you’re contributing arguably more than any other class except a guardian providing reflects can.
Going by your post, it seems you’re unaware of what I’m actually complaining about, what does people applying poison from afar or ranged knockbacks have to do with anything at all in relation to my post? I’m talking about how easy might is to obtain nowadays, previously, you’d see 25 might and go “oh wow, nicely done guys!” now it’s “awesome, got a phalanx warrior.”
Have you even bothered to compare the numbers? I’m pretty sure you’ll lose over 25% damage in order to PS.
Willing to back this claim up with some statistics?

I would advise against buying the first guild wars 1 just basing it off GW2, you will be sorely disappointed.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Warrior is giving up lot of damage for this so it only used in casual runs(pre made can stack 25 without phalanx easy),dont see any need to make that any slower than it is now for the casuals.
I insanely disagree with this, Phalanx warrior gives up barely any damage for going Phalanx. I still do a truck ton of damage with the added benefit of solo stacking 25 might to the group with very little effort.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
I don’t mean the effectiveness of might, i mean how easily might is obtained by many specs, it’s making the boon require absolutely no input at all, it’s just a ‘passive boon’ now.
Warriors (my main, a phalanx warrior) can solo stack 25 might on his OWN so long as he has at least 2 targets to hit, and can even pull it off with 1 target.
Elementalists might stacking requires actually quite a bit of input, so for the most part i feel this is relatively ok.
Engineers (Going by the POI today) are able to stack a tremendous amount of might via just their auto attack.
Necromancers are easily capable of solo stacking 25 might with the reaper spec, i was doing it without even being aware of what i was doing in the beta.
Revenants and guardians are the only class that’s capable of stacking might that i feel have it done right.
The revenant sacrifices his overall output in order to stack might for himselves and his allies by giving up energy regen, where-as the guardian is only able to stack a certain amount of might every second via traits. (Which is how Phalanx strength should be)
Stacking 25 might should require effort from the group, not just grabbing someone who can play a build that can literally just go 12111112111112111112 and reach the might cap.

If you’re standing still, and they’re standing still waiting for you to become unrooted, they’re a sitting duck as well, no?
Or they can heal up or stack might. An Ele can even do both in 4 seconds.
Or use unblockable attacks on a sitting duck.
That’s IF they have those abilities off cooldown to actually do that.
If they use unblockable attacks, you got outplayed, cancel the ability and do something else.
Being able to move while channeling the block won’t prevent unblockable attacks from hitting you, nor will it prevent people from ‘healing up or stacking might’
As it is now, this is by far the strongest block in the game. It’s on a shorter cooldown than the warriors, but on a slightly longer cooldown than the engineers, and both those classes need to trait their shield to get it to a more effective level, Revenants do not.
Engineers Shield – 20 second cooldown un-traited, just blocks.
Warriors Shield – 30 second cooldown un-traited, just blocks.
Revenants Shield – 20 Second cooldown un-traited, blocks & heals for about 4k with no modifiers or healing power, while rooting you.The Revenants shield is literally a block with an incredibly effective heal comparable to an actual healing utility.
The ability is fine, it does not need any more changes.
I’m actually starting to imagine the things this shield will be able to pull off with some of the traits from Ventari.
Generally I agree with you here, but 2 things need to be considered as well:
- usually its easier to stack might if you target is not running away from you (eg Elementalist or Guard Staff #4)
- the Revenant shield also costs 10 energy… #5 is still great though for 1v1s or 1vXs, while running from a zerg i’d probably rather have the Engineer’s shield
I agree it’s certainly easier to stack might against a stationary target, but it’s also not impossible, plus if a target is blocking & running away, if they’re running off the point in SPvP, you’ve won.
For WvW i agree, the shield is pretty poor at running away from zergs, but then Shiro covers that with the insane mobility.

It seems unlikely to change at this time.
This is going to be one of those “give it time” topics where we’re gonna have to leave Shield is the way it is, let people get wrecked in SPvP with a shield because players adapt and simply time out the block and follow it up with massive burst in their location just like used to happen with the Engie shield. People stop using it, it gets adjusted to what it should have been now, life moves on, and we get back to a more consistently designed game where (regardless of game mode) mobility is life.
At least Axe is still pretty amazing. Still honestly mulling a Frostfang.
I hate this argument because it can easily be countered.
If you’re standing still, and they’re standing still waiting for you to become unrooted, they’re a sitting duck as well, no?
Those 4 seconds give you time for you to regen some more energy, while also gaining health back via the ability. It will give you some breathing room, allowing for some of your abilities to come off cooldown. It will be able to be used to block burst, just because it roots you doesn’t mean you can’t pop it while a warrior is midway through his f1 with a hammer. You can also cancel the ability mid way through the channel and use another ability (say, Shiros evade back) to get out of harms way.
The ability is fine now, it does not need changing. The engineers shield was changed because it was literally just that, a block, and at the time the engineer was insanely squishy and had next to no survivability outside of Elixir R.

Fail to see the problem people are having with it.
With the defiance mechanic removed, it’s now a great ability, it doesn’t need anymore changing.
What a lot of people are failing to mention is that for the trade-off of not being able to move, you gain about 4k hp every 20 seconds if you use this ability off cool-down, feels fine to me.

There’s definitely not going to be any energy involved in the runes. Runes have to be applicable to all classes. There isn’t a single rune that affects profession mechanics directly (and there shouldn’t be imo).
IE: thre’s no rune triggering “on death shroud” or “when you steal”. Closest one is rune of the warrior with 1 second reduced weapon swap, and everybody can weapon swap (except engies/eles)Runes of Radiance affect eles almost exclusively.

Also yes, the thief is the most mobile class in-game bar none, it isn’t outclassed by any other class/build/spec, period.
However, the Revenant was tagged as being the most mobile in-combat heavy class, which it is, or has the potential to be anyway.
Out of combat, the Revenants mobility is garbage, arguably worse than a guardians, in combat though, he’s better than both the Guardian and Warrior, feels fine to me.

There will be a fair amount of changes that I have planned and that have come out of the feedback from this last weekend.
What about rangers and engis? No elite spec announced yet and have only one BW left.
How will you handle the tons of feedback needed to make engi/ranger elite spec decent?^
RegardsRoy isn’t the developer in charge of the engineer or ranger elite specs. He’s only running the show for the revenant.
I’m involved with everything combat related.
The changes for revenant will be a lot of polish things, and little things from feedback. The only larger change so far is adjusting how mallyx skills work a bit so you aren’t frustrated when playing with support players who cleanse conditions. I’ll talk about all the changes when they are ready though, until then you’ll just have to #believe.
This has made me concerned for Ventari.
I think Ventari needs a large change tbh, the tablet is just too slow for a game with fast paced combat like GW2.
As it is right now, I honestly feel that Ventari is going to be that “skill set” that is never used just because of how clunky it is. Gives me Deja Vu of the Rangers mainhand sword, does awesome things, but just feels awkward.
There will be some ventari changes.
Hurrah! Now I’m interested to see what you have in store for the legend.
