Very difficult to recommend a game when it has major features like minions broken since lunch and that was years ago.
Well that’s not so bad.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
it brings almost no utility to the party and still the personal DPS is mediocre even when traited for it, the only truly support build for your party would be Ventari
Damage isn’t final, numbers are still being finalized, we haven’t got everything yet so they’re not going to bother with the damage on most abilities until then.
No utility?
Spammable Stability on Jalis.
High amount of heals, condi removal and probably the highest uptime on projectile protection in-game on Ventari.
150+ ferocity on Shiro (not much, but it’s there, only class bringing 150+ ferocity groupwide so far).
But again, this all isn’t final, more utility could be added or potentially (can’t see this happening) removed.
We also still have not seen what glint will be bringing utility & trait wise.

Before this meta, it was kinda useful when everyone dealt little damage allowing for safety stomps and rezzes but now you can be spiked down with very little focus during that 3 seconds
When was tornado ever used for safe stomps? You’d just keep knocking it out of range.
I was googling to see if this was the case, as i thought it only knocked targets back with the #3 ability, and i came across this.
“This skill has a chance of summoning and throwing a cow.”
I now think the skill is bad, this chance needs to be higher.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Depends on the skill levels of the 1 and the 2.
I managed to down a Cele ele (Lol) and an Engineer on a Ranger. Albeit they could’ve been new to the game, still did what you said isn’t possible.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
D/D ele’s cannot kill anything anyways
hahahahaha

Electro pretty much nailed it on the point, HoT is basically not so much an expansion (though it still is) but more like scaffolding, it’s setting the basemark for what future updates/content patces/expansions will bring.
I believe very early on when HoT had not long been announced, we were told that they were planning to release Specializations as a way of keeping the game fresh and opening up playstyles for players, as an alternative to constantly having to bring in new weapon types.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Your suggestion is daft, it’d pigeonhole players into certain races if they wanted to perform better, it shouldn’t be like that at all.
A race should be aesthetics only, the skills we have alongside them are merely there for lore, yes they could be a bit stronger, but then that always runs the risk of making it so people start rolling the race they are for the wrong reason.
Mastery is basically what you’re after, and while we haven’t been shown much of it yet, i can guarantee you that it will be expanded upon and it’s possible we haven’t seen every or know of every mastery track we’re going to be getting in HoT.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
This last update was great but the engi necro and ranger need some serious love. The community amongst necros and rangers are basically ready to give up and join team revenant
you mean the elitists among engie, necro and ranger? i’ve created SEVERAL builds that are great among the classes
You may be doing well on those classes, and well done for doing so, but that doesn’t remove the fact that what these classes can do, others can do easier and better and more often than not, more.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Can’t imagine we’ll be getting anything major again until after the release of HoT
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Start your own group, put the tagline “anyone welcome” the only people who will now join your group are those who genuinely do not care, because anyone who does care will see that tag and think “oh, i won’t join that group, probably some beginners/newbs in that group”.
It’s not “elitism” it’s the fact that most people playing this game have run these dungeons over and over again for hundreds of days, they’re sick to death of them, but they’re a good form of income, so naturally they just want to get them over and done with as quick as they possibly can.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
The games free to play, you don’t pay a Sub fee each month like you do with FFXIV or WoW, you don’t pay for updates other than future expansions, even the living story was free if you logged in just ONCE in a 2 week window, i really can’t see how people are still complaining about this. If you think it’s too much, then don’t buy it, but considering how I’ve not had to pay a single cent for any update this game has given me for the past 3 years, the cost of the expansion is next to nothing for me. Especially when Blizzard put their expansions up for £49.99 while still requiring £9 a month.
And no, for anyone who’s going to say “I buy gems”, it doesn’t contribute as an argument because you don’t NEED to buy them.
I purchased the £80 version of the game, because i want to support Anet, but let’s do some math.
I’ve played the game since the 3 day headstart, i can’t be bothered to log in to the game to actually check how many days, it’s over 1000, but for the sake of this equation, let’s just go with 1000.
Now let’s figure out how much money each day has cost me compared to the £80 expansion pack i bought.
80 / 1000 = 0.08p per day.
Not even a penny. Not even a tenth of a penny. I can literally find more on the floor outside each day than this game has cost me.

The weapon glints going to be bringing is most definitely a shield, as it’s been datamined a lot of times now and the only weapon to actually change was the offhand dagger into an offhand sword (for shiro most likely).
For the skills and elites, no one knows at this point, there’s speculation it’ll be Signets/glyphs, but we’ll just have to wait and see, if they are signets/glyphs, I imagine they’ll be a trait in glints line somewhere that’ll have an effect that causes the passives to remain actives when they’re on cooldown.
(Also, lol @ shield #4 basically being a better guardian shield #4)

Rage will be the go-to rune for Revenant i feel if you have access to permanent fury, which you should if you have a warrior in the group using FGJ on cooldown alongside the Revenants traits that proc fury and such.
Never been a fan of scholar runes, as soon as you dip below 90% hp (which happens quite often) the runes are just suddenly not being utilized at all, they’re effective in a premade group where you can coordinate better, but most people probably run in pugs, but thankfully (as you’ve stated yourself) Rage will pull ahead on damage over scholar runes for the Revenant (Hooray!)

Numbers aren’t final.
Shiro’s without a doubt going to be the focus for sustained DPS, but we can’t rule the others out just yet, because again, numbers aren’t final.
Ventari has the potential to be insanely useful with it’s strong support, and it’s been rumored going by quotes from Colin, that HoT’s “challenging content” will require players to change how they play in order to be succesful, meaning the ‘zerk meta’ could be out for these.
Jalis pretty much brings perma stability, while this isn’t all too useful at the moment, we could see situations where it’ll be strong in HoT
Malyx, not sure on this one to be honest.
Finally, Glint, we’ll just need to wait and see what this spec brings.

I have to agree, over-all, shiro looks incredible, the one ability i was having doubts on was sword #2.
When it was explained that this was an ability to keep people close or as a way to “close the gap” all i could think was.. but Shiro has a gap closer already.. and it doesn’t have a cooldown.. and it’s better.. by far.
sword #2 is going to be much like pistol #2 on thieves.. it’s never going to be used because there’s better abilities to pop.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
I have a feeling the staff will be the second highest DPS parsing weapon for the Revenant, depending on how sword turns out, it’s obvious that mainhand sword is meant to be the go-to DPS weapon, mace is clearly tailored to Conditions, so that leaves us with staff & hammer, ranged weapons will rarely if ever outparse melee weapons for DPS, which is how it should be, which means logically, staff ‘should’ be the second highest parsing weapon for revenant.
I imagine it’ll be much something like the staff being comparable to the Greatsword on Ranger, not the highest DPS’ing weapon available to the class, but you’re just glad they aren’t using a longbow (hammer)

Mace…
Jalis…
did you read my first post in this thread?Hammer 5
Weapon swapand unless your an Engineer or Warrior (or a Mace/Jalis Rev), 100% swiftness by yourself is a myth.
I know for a fact that Guardians and Mesmers (with the right setup on the Mesmers) can stack 100% swiftness.

We haven’t seen Glint yet, that could be what you’re after.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Just a quick question for either Roy (Or rubi, if she’s aware of this)
Will the revenant be given more Utility skills to be swapped in and out between each legend? Maybe even universal utility skills that can be used on any legend, much like racial skills and elites. As we yet to get anything concrete on this question.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
ok so er.. Am i the only one who understood this thread?
There’s a trait that allows one CC to strip 2 stacks of stability instead of one, and an ability that allows you to throw out unblockable hits if your attacks are blocked (meaning you can CC a guardian using shelter finally)
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Impossible Odds gives <Super Speed> which is faster than regular swiftness. Because this is an upkeep skill, when out of combat you will have 10 seconds of super speed before you need to refill your energy.
Upkeep skills can’t be used out of combat because of the way energy regeneration works. When not in combat, energy regeneration pips go to 0 in order to keep the Revenant at a resting 50 energy. Upkeep skills require that the Revenant have pips to get rid of, because they all cost more than the 5 pips that would bring a Revenant from 0 pips to -5.
Upkeep skills will be usable out of combat, Roy’s already confirmed this in a comment he posted somewhere on these forums, they’re making a tweak to the energy mechanic that makes it possible.
(Something like allowing energy to regen out of combat but capping at 50 energy ooc)

Traveler runes.
Mesmer has pretty bad access to swiftness too unless they trait and equip runes for it.

Good job guys. You complained and begged for an unimaginative solution, and you got it. Now the class is doomed to be boring as all hell. There were plenty of way better ideas than duct-taping default weapon swap to the class.
Sometimes the best and most practical fixes to problems are not the most imaginative ones nor should they be.
That is just depressing. If this is how humans think, I’m ashamed to be one.
If you’re just going to post insultive remarks towards people, do it in another thread. Infact, better yet, don’t do it at all.

I honestly don’t think so, the only class it currently wrecks is an engineer using Grenades.

You have plenty of time to use a condition removal..
If i can manage them on my engineer who’s running with condi removal only coming from my healing turret, pretty sure you can manage them on any other class.
It’s just a hotjoin hero build, at least as far as guardians are concerned, ele’s is a completely different story.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Would be nice, but because i know people will whine about “clutter”, have it be a tickbox enabled function in the settings or something, or a keybind, or an entirely new window you can open and close.
That way you could even have it grey out the bosses you’ve done that day.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Honestly it’s pretty difficult to determine when a good time to do this is.
Just have to go with what Xbon said, just keep an eye on the exchange rates until you’re comfortable with what they’re at.
Should be pretty obvious though, but never convert when there’s a blog post (or indication of any kind) that new items will be put in the gem store within a week.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
CC looks like it’ll be required on certain bosses in HoT (namely the wyvern fight that we’ve seen) so this discussion isn’t worth doing just yet, we need to wait and see how it pans out first.

Yes.. The class will obviously get access to underwater combat, otherwise it would be impossible to do World completion.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
We need to see what the challenging group content is first, Colin stated that “players will need to change their tactics and utilize more support” or something along those lines, so this could make the Revenant very strong in this aspect because Ventari w/ staff is very strong at providing support.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Revenant isn’t getting a dagger.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Numbers are the easiest thing to balance.
Making sure the skills work and aren’t over or underpowered in their effects is not.
It’s easy to go “Right, this skill isn’t doing enough damage, let’s make it do x damage instead and see what happens”
I know Anets track record doesn’t prove what i have just said, but for the duration of the beta and release of HoT, the Revenant is going to be Anets new born child, so it’s in their best interest to make sure the class isn’t subpar.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
I’m assuming we’re still going to be getting one soon, but i just want to get some clarification so i know I’ll get to see this legend in action.

Now compare either of those to Ele’s Tornado and weep at how aweful it is
not worse then warriors battle standard or necros golem or engys mortar and so on and so on
Are you really saying that Tornado is better than Warbanner?
its doesnt work all the time, has the longest cool down. Tornado at least lloks cool and does dmg.
War banner doesnt work when a team mate health is too low and psn and so on and so on. If the skill doesnt work and your playing warrior your dead.
why exactly are you dead when you fail the banner?
and a good war never banners when the ally is already 10seconds in downstate, you should rather pop banner like 1sec before your mate drops so he can get insta rezzed (if he somehow survives like a baws just stow it)
your joking right? This is a elite skill and warrior doesnt get the boons a ele or guardian gets. It doesnt get the stealth a thief gets. It doesnt have the distortion/blinds/reflect/ instant stuns a mesmer gets.
ANd he uses a elite skill which could of been rampage a really good 20 sec which is easily condi downed so you have to run a stance with it, or the signet which grants 5 stacks might, fury, and swiftness and can be traited for a lesser cool down.
Your a warrior with no elite skill which means your useless. Showbow warriors need the signet for condi removal and dmg. Zerker warriors need stances and rampage, and since the banner doesnt work no one uses it since they will have a terrible build with a useless elite skill.
Eles dont need a elite skill to win fights, engys dont need elite skills to win fights. Warriors can only sustain or do massive dmg, there is no middle ground for us and if we try to play team support with a broken banner we are the worse and bunking. Thats why were dead
You’re either a really bad warrior, or fight warriors in hotjoin who are just doing the daily.

Rampage wins out over lich form on everything.
Even a 1vs1.
Rampage can be blinded.
So can lich form.
Rampage cannot be reflected.
Lich form can.
The only bonus going for Lich form is it’s ranged, that’s it. But rampage can easily close the gap with just about anything.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
If you simply spam 111 on rampage you are wasting lots of potential and wont do much in the end.
