I like how mesmer traits (That aren’t even op) got nerfed almost instantly, (MtD, Chaotic Dampening) but Grenade barrage, an ability that’s one shotting most players, is still bugged and going on strong.

Ranger, full zerker gear, Longbow.
Reason? Easiest class to do them on, with a 1500 ranged weapon capable of some pretty high damage, it’s very relaxed and simple to pull off.
The pet you want a ranged option, so pick one of those.
For the second pet, either a jaguar or drake, Jaguar for more damage, drake for fairly decent damage with a bit of survivability.
Heals entirely up to you, I’d go with healing spring just to throw out a bit of support (Currently bugged, doesn’t heal the pet)
Utilities, I’d say frost spirit and signet of the hunt, the third one can be entirely up to you.
Elite is rampage, the others aren’t worth it for world bosses.
Traits are pretty self explanitory, just go for whatever boosts damage.

Just curious as to what Armor I should be running in WvW as a solo roamer/camp flipper/dolyak harasser.
And then what i should be running if i’m following a blob.
Cheers!
Posted this in a thread the other day but i only received information on what utilities to run, not so much on what build/armor i should be using in each situation.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Take a look at how EQ2 did it.
Skills were balanced seperately around what they were hitting.
Hitting an NPC? Stun for 3 seconds, do 1000 damage.
Hit a player? Stun for 1.5 Seconds, do 500 damage.
Just do this and suddenly you can keep both sides of the game happy.
The argument “it would be confusing for new players” is null and void, they’ll never learn these things if they’re continually treated like babies with no braincells.

That was a brilliant and well written reply, thanks for that expandas.
As i’ve got my build and playstyle for PvE sorted, is there any specific build you would recommend for WvW if my main intention was to flip camps and roam solo?
I’m not really looking for anything cheesy with little counterplay, but something capable of standing it’s own in a 1vs1 while being very competent and soloing camps, as that’s mainly what i enjoy doing in WvW, sneaking around on my lonesome and flipping camps and targeting dolyaks.
Looks like I’m going to have to focus on getting a set of assassins gear though, but that shouldn’t be a problem, I’ve already got some traveler runes to go, and getting some eagle and pack runes shouldn’t be a problem either.

Anyone? 60+ views and no ones helping out!
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Bit curious, I’m starting to utilize my mesmer in PvE now, as the class has become rather interesting and fun for me, but I’m completely stumped on runes (and to more extent, gear for WvW).
I’m focusing on as much offence as i can with phantasms and mainhand sword with mantras, but I can’t think of a rune that would go well with this build, I’m not a fan of Scholars and I can’t think strength would be all that viable in this build.
Then on the other hand, for WvW i have no idea what sort of build would be effective for what i want to do.
I’m more of a solo player in WvW, roaming, flipping camps, taking out dolyaks and stragglers, so if this is what i wanted to accomplish, should i be focusing on Condi or Power? I’ve grabbed 6 Centaur runes to abuse the heaing mantra for permanent swiftness, but apart from that, i have no clue what i should be doing.
Any advice from more experienced mesmers would be greatly appreciated, cheers!

By F2P i mean no purchase necessary for the base game, while some features would be restricted from the base game unless purchased.
What leads me to believe this is the case is (and this of course is just speculation) something that That_Shaman datamined.

It said that things and happened and to check them out. i’m talking about something before hand to warn me that “Hey, no how you like changing and mixing up your build on the fly? well after today you can’t do that, so log out with what you want to try and keep!”
You CAN still change your build on the fly.
Are you level 80?

Well, if they messed it up, why aren’t they fixing it?
There was nothing in game telling me anything, i shouldn’t have to rely on studying the game i’m playing to learn what i should log out with…
Yes, there was something in-game telling you.
As soon as you logged in a big box appeared on your screen that you obviously didn’t bother reading at all and just instantly clicked “Go!”

Noticed this too, although my ping has been higher than normal since the patch (was normally sitting around 40-50, now I’m at an average of 120+) so this could be a contributing factor, if it is, it’s definitely the game, as my net hasn’t changed anywhere else.

Zerk takes 3 stats, Power, Precision and Ferocity to do damage, Condi takes only 1 and it ignores armor.
why do ppl that blindly scream for condi buffs ignore that part?
You could also argue condi takes “3” – condi damage, duration (any traits left? but there’s utilities (mesmer) and/or food and/or sigils, etc), and the opportunity costs of using condi weapons (they have lower base damages.) Many condi builds also need precision/crit for procing bleeds as well…I’d count some combo of that at least 3…
Further the opportunity cost of ramp up time, as well as the cost of gaining access to all types of condi (having to take a trait or weapon to gain access to burn for instance.)
I’m not saying either way that condis are under or overpowered. Just apples and oranges. You can’t simply say direct damage/zerk has 3 times the stat cost when there are plenty of other factors in builds and costs in builds.
Okay, how about this then? When a Zerker build is going on the defencive by utilizing blocks, say warrior shield 5, engie toolkit 4, they’re no longer doing damage.
Condition builds? Complete opposite.
I can equip a settlers amulet on a ranger, gaining stupid amounts of survivability from the toughness and healing power while still dishing out insane amounts of condi damage. A power build can’t do that.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Condi’s are fine for the most part.
But burning and Poison really need a hard cap on how many stacks can be applied.
Being able to consistently apply burning stacks that will tick for 4k+ is abysmally overpowered.
there are values of burning that are “too high.”
4k is not one of them.how much dps do you think a standard “zerker” build does?
(ps its more then 4k.)
Burning is passive. It ignores armor. It gains it’s effectiveness from one stat, “zerker build” gains it from 3. Alongside burning will also be other forms of Conditions and damage. People don’t suddenly stop doing 0 damage from everything else as soon as they decide to use burns.

Just did SE p1, and after getting through the tunnel of golems that pull you, the 3 golems you need to fight at the end were insanely brutal, mainly because one of them is unloading a kitten ton of burns.
Looks like we’re going to need to start bringing group support to dungeons.

AC is painful now if you have mediocre players, before you could just power through and burn everything down, but now I’ve noticed people are just dying left right and centre, could be a result of them not knowing what builds to use, but eh, stat allocation was reduced quite a lot in lower level areas.

Next you’ll tell me that Ele’s aren’t throwing 4k+ ticking burns on people.
Yup, burns are the New OP this patch. But even a decent player wont let it tick for 4k ( not even possible in pvp afaik), that’s more of a pve situation. But completely unrelated to claiming that an engi can do 10k dmge with #2……but ok =D
65% damage isn’t 10k hp to an ele or guardian, it’s 7k.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Yeah.. the damage going out from every single class is insane.. There’s no skilled play going on at all whatsoever, people are just mashing buttons and people are melting.
An engineer literally threw Shrapnel grenade on me on it’s own, and with all the procs that went with it, it was enough to get my health down to around 35%.. how the kitten is this balanced?
Classic example of exaggerating reality to try and drive home a point. There is no engineer build that can take you to 35% with a shrapnel nade…not even close to 35% actually…even if u were running some terrible zerker build with 0 defense…it STILL wouldn’t get you to 35%…
But in regards to the OP yes it will take some time for the meta to settle. This is quite expected and most of these builds that people are running around with will never be seen again once the meta resettles
Next you’ll tell me that Ele’s aren’t throwing 4k+ ticking burns on people.

The thing is, the people that are going to cover it (people like Aurora and Bogotter) are so biased in their opinions that they’re going to defend Anet to the end, why? Because they’re given special treatment, they’re always being flown out to places and given special treatment at gatherings, when they’re just players, just like us.
WoodenPotatoes covered it brilliantly in his newest video, the value for money is just NOT there at the moment, we don’t know what we’re paying for, we don’t know when the games being released, we don’t know how many beta’s will be inbetween now and release to warrant that being included in a prepurchase.
We have no idea on what the challenging content is, we have no idea how big the actual map is, we have no idea if we’re getting new dungeons and we also have no idea on how large the expansion itself actually is. What we do know is that Anets philosophy for this expansion is that it is “feature rich” not content rich, meaning that content wise, we’re really not going to get a lot.. so before i prepurchase, i want to know EVERYTHING that’s going to be included in the game.

If they do release a better deal or reduce the price or add more things, it’ll be retroactively applied to those that have already prepurchased, otherwise that would just cause an entirely new kitten storm.

Without air/fire, chill of death would never instakill people.
without geo-doom, ip is just a very strong trait u can counter with cleanses.
Those traits have been there for ages and nobody really complained that much.
sigils and runes on the other side…
IP has been complained about since a few months after the game launched. It was changed twice: first the effect was changed to have an ICD and then it was changed from adept to master.
Chill of Death has been a problem since power necro became common.
Powerful procs are bad for the game because they have no counter-play.
IP’s also being moved to grandmaster (if i recall correctly) in the new trait changes, but this practically does nothing now that we’ll now have access to 3 full trait lines.
I agree with the OP, sigils need to go, builds need to be defined by their traits, not sigils that just hand out free unavoidable damage.
The game would be better and much easier to balance if there weren’t so many free damage procs going out, an engineer can weapon swap, throw a shrapnel grenade (which only applies bleeding by itself) but launch out 4 other conditions on top of that due to procs and sigils.. It’s stupid.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
I do agree, but your solution doesn’t really require in counterplay.
Maybe not, but it would still tone them down a bit.
As it stands now, procs will just happen, there’s nothing to prevent them other than not being hit, but then the next hit will always just proc them instead.
On-swap sigils either need to be drastically changed or their effectiveness reduced, geo/doom is an insanely strong combo for just weapon swapping.
Fire and Air sigils are also incredibly strong, it’s just free damage and needs to be changed to either only proc under certain conditions (much like the new traits will (ex; if over the condition threshold)
Perhaps fire can only proc if there are 2 or more stacks of burning applied, and Air can only proc if there are 5 or more stacks of vulnerability, it keeps with the theme of the elements themselves and would make them less braindead and actually give the player an idea on when these sigils might proc.
This on top of my previous suggestion of them being able to proc on a missed hit meaning they also miss causing no damage but going on CD.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Lol no, blind is incredibly strong, it doesn’t need a buff.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
There’s too many in-game and they’re accounting for too much damage overall, there’s no counter play to them, they just proc on damage.
My suggestion? If they were going to proc on the next hit, but it’s missed, blocked, dodged, whatever, it goes on cooldown, let’s have at least SOME form of counterplay towards these, as it stands, if you miss, it doesn’t go on cooldown, it’ll just proc on the next hit, it’s dumb and passive play needs to go, can we actually turn PvP skill based in this game please instead of “hope for rng”?

It’s bad even in PvP, they need to give us more stat choices in pvp besides the Pre-set amulets we already have.

Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
The revenant NEEDS weapon swapping.
The engineer doesn’t have it because it can use kits.
The elementalist doesn’t have it because it has access to 20 weapon skills.
The revenant will have 5 weapon skills and access to 10 utilities. Yay. The class will be insanely easy to kite if they’re not using anything that isn’t a hammer as it stands from what we’ve seen at the moment.
In comparison, the other classes have 10 weapon skills and 5 utilities, so yes, this does seem balanced from a numbers point of view, 15 abilities across the board, but those classes can slot in a RANGED weapon as well as a melee weapon.
In SPvP classes with 2 weapon slots will always slot at least 1 ranged weapon. The revenant isn’t able to do this, so they’re going to stick out like a sore thumb, they also have next to no gap closers because that’s behind the ‘design philosophy’ for the class, so they can be kited insanely easily, this could be seen as the classes weakness, but there’s no fun in your weakness resulting in you not being able to get a hold of your target at all.
If you’re running a revenant, I imagine if you come across a ranger using a longbow, you may as well just lean over and plant a target on your kitten if you’re not using a hammer.
Not even going to get started on how the Utilities are bound to Legends as well, meaning there’s going to be next to no customization past choosing a legend & weapon combination.

There will be no new ones.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
There are 5 trait lines, one generic, and 4 base trait lines that are tied to legends.
There will be a specialization that will add another legend which equals 5.
I also have concerns with how many people I saw said they wanted to main Revenant, but have come out of the beta with concerns over the class rather than nothing but joy.
It does have me a bit worried as I have not been into the beta yet.
Wouldn’t worry about it, it’s a new class, so obviously it’s either going to appear either too weak or too strong, this is how it always is with MMO’s when they introduce a new class.
A lot of the complaints people have about the revenant are mostly tied to it not doing enough damage, this is a result of two things.
1. The class being in celestial armor, not all classes utilize this well.
2. Not being shown the entire class, we haven’t got access to all the weapons, traits or legends, so those who are saying the class is bad are just doomsayers, we haven’t been given the full picture.
3. The big one, numbers are not final.
