I find every single Shiro skill useful in pve (expecially Riposting Shadows and Phase Traversal, LOL, are we kidding? The first is a stun breaker and the other one is a leap). The only skill I find useless among all the skills we have is Jalis taunt, but only because it costs too much.
And if you don’t find them useful (lol) then just swap Shiro with another legend. We have )soon) 5 of them, I’m sure you’ll find something you like. Just as with utility skills.
You’re missing the point..
Stun breaks aren’t needed if you have a guardian that knows when and how to use Stand your ground, which i normally always do in a group setup.
A leap finisher is null, i manage just fine without one on my warrior, the only ever gap closer i actually ever need to use in combat is whirlwind, rush i only ever seem to use OOC for the speed, everytime I’m using it in combat it’s for a quick burst. So Axe’s teleport will be just fine for me there.
Swapping to another Legend is a possibility, but then I’m still left with some utilities that i potentially will not need at all.
You’re missing the point entirely, every class but the revenant can swap out utilities for each individual fight, a revenant can’t do that.
Need projectile destruction? Here you go, hope you enjoy the other 2 utilities though that could be potentially useless for this fight, oh, you also give up your heal for pittance and you now have to micromanage a god awful gimmick.
Need stability? Here you go, have fun with a utility you’ll never use though because it costs 50 energy, barely lasts long enough to warrant the cost, and an ability that you might as well not use at all because the hammers will just completely rotate around the NPC if it’s not got a huge hitbox.
Going through your post history, i see where you feel there’s a problem.
People aren’t asking for the ability to have Malyx utilities with Shiro, we’re asking for some universal utilities that can be used with all legends or give each legend an additional 2 utilities that can be swapped out for what they currently have, restricted to legends.
This will put the revenant on par with every other class having 20 utilities base, and it will at least offer SOME customization while still remaining to the theme of utilities being locked to certain legends.

Yes, because with Revenant and it’s current energy problems you sure can “spam” unyielding anguish… two casts max, and then you need to wait asslong time.. more if you have full energy bar but for that you need to sit on your energy and basicalyl just autoattack and be sitting duck.. it just shows how people think when they say it is “spammable and op/broken” and geez.. unyielding anguish can eat trought your puny stack of 5 stability easily, even more so when you use the trait that removes 2 stakcs of stability and not one. If you do have 10 stacks of stability, it takes a while and stability works so it is not bugged.
If you’re at 100 energy upon casting it, yeah you can get quite a few off.
I kept a point uncappable for nearly 20 seconds on my own with Unyielding Anguish.
And the whole point of decapping isn’t to kill someone, it’s to prevent the point from being capped, so yeah, if you’re “autoattacking and being a sitting duck” i can see how it won’t work, but this is what you do.
You throw Unyielding Anguish on someone, whatever direction they’re teleported to, you run to the opposite, and just keep replacing UA on the point once it expires, they’ll get on the point every now and then, but you can still (if you’re not an idiot and mindlessly spam 4 UA’s on top of one another) keep a point uncappable for quite a while.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
the whole point of the revenant is that you don’t choose utility skills but you choose the legend set, and to make up for that you get 10 skills instead of 5. /thread
And I don’t really see much lack of choice here. It’s not like every class has only useful skills by the way, 50% of them are unused. If they allow you to choose skills then there is no point in having 2 legends (people would just camp one of them), energy and so on.
there are many classes out there with customizable utility skills.
While i agree with you to an extent, this also raises the following problem.
If an ability becomes broken during a patch, other classes can simply slot it out for another utility in the meantime, revenants will not have that luxury.
Also currently there are some utilities that are just plain bad and not worth using at all, this further limits the revenants usefulness in certain situations.
For example, a Guardian in fractals, not needing reflects on this fight? Swap out one utility for another. Simple as that.
The revenant however would have to swap an entire legend, thus limiting his overall usefulness.
I’ll show you a few abilities which (at the moment) i feel are pretty useless in a PvE setting:
Riposting Shadows looks good on paper, but in a PvE setting, it’s just not needed. I’m not saying it’s a bad ability, it’s not, it’s great, but there’s just not much room for it in PvE because 2 dodges should be enough, as you have other mechanics to prevent damage as well from other classes, meaning for most fights you could swap this for another utility.
Phase Traversal Again, suffers the same way Riposting Shadows does, it’s just not needed in PvE, we have a gap closer with axe, and that’s more than sufficient, how many times are you running PvE and slotting every gap closer you possibly can? The only class i can think that actually goes out of their way to slot a gap closer is Mesmer with Blink for the stunbreak. Something that i would personally rather slot out for something else.
Banish Enchantment has very few situations where it will actually warrant some use, it’s situational at best, again, something i’d rather slot out most of the time.
Unyielding Anguish This one should be pretty obvious, Revenants are going to get a lot of hate in any group play if they use this ability. It’s worse than the Rangers knockback ability because it’s spammable so long as you have the energy for it.
Forced Engagement Another big one, costs 50 energy, does a measly taunt and slow for a few seconds, that’s it, it’s just not worth the 50 energy at all, you’re better off conserving that energy for something else.
I haven’t mentioned any Elite skills as most elites are pretty situational anyway and only warrant a use in certain situations, but all of the Revenants elites are pretty well done, even if some are fairly underpowered, they all warrant some use, jade winds for example is very strong and incredibly fun to use. Malyx’s Elite was well thought out by throwing the extra stats onto it, so even if there aren’t many conditions going out, you still gain some benefit.
Ventari was left out as well as i feel all of it’s utilities are fairly useful, it has projectile destruction, healing and condition removal all on one, it’s just a shame that if you only want one, you have to take the others as well, the heal is a bit crap though, not a fan of it being tied to a gimmick.

No. Because then it can be used against your own team.
You can use Shadow Refuge or Mass Invisibility against your team too
Shadow Refuge and Mass Invisibility aren’t Spammable, and one you can walk out of to break the stealth it gives.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
The class is seriously lacking in the defence apartment.
It’s a simple fact of the matter that the revenant cannot swap out utilities, if this remains this way, it’s a really big problem and it needs to be changed so that ALL the revenants utilities are worth using.
As it stands, a lot of them are, to put it frank, quite crap, let’s go through a bunch of them, specifically relating to Jalis, the so called “tanky” legend.
- Forced Engagement
This ability, as a whole, is just quite bad it certanly fits with the ‘tank’ theme that this legend is going for, but it just doesn’t work. It’s not really a hard CC as the target is still capable of dishing out damage, it’s just going to all be directed at you. For the most part, this ability does very little as most abilities in-game have the capability of cleaving or even bouncing between targets. On top of the 50 Energy requirement, this ability is just not worth using at all.
Suggested Change
The entire ability needs to be reworked OR the energy requirement needs to take a large hit, as it stands, this ability just isn’t worth casting at all, there are better things worth spending your energy on, that won’t take a whopping 50% of your bar away.
- Rite of the Great Dwarf
The cast time.. Hoo boy, the cast time. The stun break is nice, especially as it has no cooldown and only an energy requirement, but that cast time is what ruins it. This ability overall is fine, other than that cast time, my suggestion is a simple one, and i have a feeling it could make the ability more.. usable.
Suggested Change
While channelling the ability, you gain the active effects, effectively boosting the effect to 7 seconds for the Revenant, and 5 seconds for allies.
I also recommend that upon activating the ability, the revenant gains 1 stack of stability to help with the long channeling time, this doesn’t make the skill a ‘free cast’ as the stack of 1 stability can easily be ripped, knocked off, and then the revenant can be CC’d, cancelling the cast.
The defence this ability grants also needs to be MUCH more potent, perhaps give it the ability to prevent incoming soft CC’s like Chill, Cripple & Immobilize while active, but still allowing damaging CC’s and Fear to go through.

Doesn’t even need to be weakened if evade frames are added onto it.
Pistol whip is spammable, dazes the target, gives the thief evade and does quite a chunk of damage as well as providing a ton of healing if Signet of Malice and the trait that grants 15% of crit damage as healing are equipped.
Whirlwind attack on a warrior, provides evade frames, does a high amount of damage, can easily provide more than 9 stacks of might against 2 or more targets while also sharing them amongst the group if Phalanx strength is traited..

Vague, the problem is your giving anecdotal evidence that having multiple necros on a team is auto an auto-win. That might be what happens in your experience but isn’t necessarily true in general. Your credibility on this topic is also hindered because you state things like, “necros have OP damage, cc, and sustain.” These are just factually not true, outside of wells and lich necromancers will do less damage on a cele build, marauder build, and condition build than their direct counterparts. There isn’t anymore cc on most necro builds than a warrior with hammer/greatsword, engi, or a mantra mesmer, and less single target than a thief. Necros sustain did get buffed, but rightly so as it was and still is bad in a lot of places.
This thread does illustrate one of the issues with necros though. Namely that they don’t have active defense and all their sustain comes from straight up hp regen. It is probably too strong against weak and even middle tier players, but underpowered against the best. IT would be nice if they increased the regen rate of DS, but made the pool much smaller.
Well I did say I would rather the devs investigate necros in-game rather than taking my word for it, or other people just defending Necro because they are onto a good thing. So maybe you should try reading comprehension before posting. The devs have the ability to watch live gameplay and likely have access to more detailed combat logs than we do. If they think everything is working as intended then fair enough, but I don’t think that is the case. Silly levels of tanking and burst damage is obviously out of balance.

Second, you’re just asking to be trolled with the way you’re going about this, you’re adamant that necro’s are a problem and need nerfing, but i can guarantee you that the rest of the community will very heavily disagree with you.
Are necro’s doing a lot of damage? Yes. Is it avoidable/counterable? Very much so, yes.
I think this is just a result of you being new to the game and not understanding the mechanics fully, Necromancers are an insanely easy class to tackle on every single class in-game, the only thing Necromancers have going for them at the moment is the hotjoin stomp build which is basically a zerker necro.
I’m allowed to be rude to anyone who is deliberately being condescending, while ignoring or not reading what I’ve said because it is inconvenient to their argument. I’m asking the devs to look into necros because I don’t think they are balanced in PvP. Not from 1v1 experiences but playing against teams with multiple necro. What are people afraid of, if there is nothing to find.
How is that any different to multiple rangers using rapid fire? Multiple guardians judges interventioning in and using whirling wrath? Multiple Warriors using Hundred blades or the Hammer CC chain? Multiple Engineers using Grenade barrage? Multiple DD eles using fire 3 & 4? Multiple thieves backstabbing or pistol whipping? Multiple Mesmers throwing out phantasms and shatters?

Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
I enjoyed using the weapon, the 2, 3, 4 & 5 skills felt great, the 1 skill.. not so much, it felt weird to use? Not sure if that makes sense, but i wasn’t a fan of it. It felt like the Guardian hammer chain, with the last hit that places the protection symbol, they all felt like that.
I won’t go into detail about the damage numbers, because i was getting some pretty nice damage from the final hit on the #2 skill, but of course, it’s in testing, so the numbers can (and most likely will) change, as they already have.

Eles can only stack 25 vuln with lightning storm, after which it’s then on cooldown for a near a minute.
There’s only one class that can consistently keep up 25 stacks of vuln and that’s an engineer.
You got a point there, but what bossfights last longer than 1 minute in 5 man groups? As far as I know 80-90% of the dungeon bosses below Arah are done super fast.
But my point being, vuln is so easily accessible with Heart of Thorns that a full group could probably stack up to 50 vuln easily at every boss fight. And that is not even building for it probably. I’m just making assumptions here and I know they can’t be taken for a fact.
No no, i do get where you’re coming from and i do agree, Vuln is starting to become much more common on classes with what they’ve shown us in the PoI’s, I think at this point, they’d be better off just removing Vuln from the game and causing every single attackable thing in-game take 25% more damage baseline.

Not 100% sure why this patch is getting so much praise.
Mesmers were barely touched, just bug fixes and barely noticable damage nerfs on traits that were fine as they were, and bouncing blades, which is ok i guess? less damage over-all on the class is nice, but still kittenting out damage in pvp for little effort.
Warriors rampage only received a 30 second increase on it’s cooldown which is negated if you take the trait that reduces physical abilities anyway, still has a stupid amount of CC and damage, albeit for 5 seconds less (yay!)
Rangers were in dire need of some buffs, so what does anet throw them? “Here have a bit more range on everything, get it, range, cos you’re RANGErs”.
It’s nice that we’re getting patches and such, don’t get me wrong, but it’s just a band-aid fix because all the devs are focused on HoT.. Which they shouldn’t be, there should be some still focusing on the core game and listening to feedback regarding balance and throwing these patches out more swiftly, this is just a band-aid to hold us over, because let’s be honest, damage is out of control on some classes and barely any damage changes were made, just bug fixes and a bit of range thrown into some abilities.

Don’t blame them, with the amount of cheese builds running around that pretty much give morons the ability to act skilled for a period of time is just killing the game.
Between Mesmers sheer strength and lack of any counter.
D/D ele kittenting out sustainability and insane pressure via the absurd damage burns are doing.
Warriors having god mode for 20 seconds everytime rampage is popped, basically turning the tide of any battle without any braincells required, just tap buttons.
These are my main complaints about the current ‘pvp meta’, these 3 classes are the dominant ones, and the builds that are making them dominant require barely any knowledge or skill on the class from the player. I understand the game needs classes that are relatively strong with not much input to keep the casuals entertained, but kitten , not by this much.

The idea over sword #2 is to help close the gap between you and the enemy or to keep them in your midst, but is it really needed? I mean look at utility #1 & #2.. Pretty much an unlimited amount of gap closers.
Shiro’s theme seems to be closing the gap due to the lack of cripple, so why not redesign 2 to become a leap finisher that chills when it connects?
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Protection and retaliation fit Jalis like a glove, yet, there’s so little of either of them. It seems to me that they are trying to find alternative, more visually-striking mechanics to replace boons with the Revenant. So, in a way, transforming allies into stone is their own version of protection and vengeful hammers is their own version of retaliation (likewise, staff #2 is another variation of retaliation’s flavor).
Sure, there’s always retribution’s traits, but they feel kind of underwhelming. Protection is tied to incoming disables, retaliation only lasts for 2 seconds and the grandmaster retaliation trait has almost nothing to synergy with.
They should rework retribution’s trait line much the same way they reworked invocation’s fury traits.
3s Protection on disable with 5s cooldown is amazing – I play Engi and we have the same trait. I’m not trying to defend anything else about Jalis though…like the horribly long cast time on the elite…
It’s an amazing trait, yeah, but it’s only really going to see any use in SPvP or WvW, for PvE it’s pretty crap, because you don’t often get CC’d in dungeons, and when you would/were going to be CC’d, you normally always want stability instead.
It should be more like https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Protective_Ward but on a shorter ICD imo. not entirely sure why Ranger got this trait over revenant, seems like the perfect trait for Jalis.

idk it really depends on what the skills for shield are going to be…
For large, long, cluster fest fights where going melee is suicidal, I could just set back and range support with Ventari.
You’ll have a hard time with that, the Revenant doesn’t have an offhand mace.
Unless you mean Mace/sword, but then you won’t have chill.

1. A Revenant
2. A Mesmer
What you need to do
1. Make sure the Revenant and Mesmer are both on the same team.
2. Once the Revenant has been downed, have the Mesmer pop Timewarp on the Revenant
3. Revenant proceeds to mash 1, stacking an absurd amount of Slow on the enemy
4. Revive the Revenant before he is finished off.
5. Laugh as the enemy who for some reason is running no condition removal has about 15 seconds of unclearable slow on them.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Weapon swap (or an alternative mechanic) was definitely needed, so I can’t complain about this much. But I am left with one big concern. Revenant has very few weapon choices.
For example, if I play condi Rev, then I equip Mace/X in one set, and what in the world do I put in my other weapon set? There is no functional weapon I can equip for the second set…The best I can think of is Mace/Axe and Mace/Sword, but this still leaves condi. Rev without any range, which is the same problem they had before weapon swap.
Power Rev is better, but still lacking in build diversity atleast where weapons are concerned. Almost all direct damage Revs by necessity will be Hammer and Staff or Sword/X.
Or will this not be as big of a concern as I am imagining? I know that Necro and maybe Mesmer, for example, also have limited weapon choices, but I don’t play those professions much, so I don’ t know how much effect it has on them.
Has next to no affect on them, honestly, Revenant will be fine with just one weapon for Condi.
Sword would also be a nice weapon to pair with axe/mace because don’t forget that conditions benefit from Vulnerability now (Which sword applies a lot of) and the sword #3 also grants about 7 stacks of might.

Burn guard pre-patch didn’t nuke someone in seconds with burning, it took time and intelligence to pull off, now you can just smash everything that procs a burn and drop someone.

Agree, people need to stop merging Twilight and Sunrise together, getting a free legendary to sell while also unlocking both skins the weapon uses.

Inquiry about new gear in heart of thorns

Legendaries are the only safe bet.
They have at times mentioned they built the system with the intention of doing things like upping level cap eventually (which might necessitate new tiers of gear), so I wouldn’t even assume ascended is totally safe forever.
It’s why I’ve always wanted a set of legendary armor, totally worth the grind to have selectable stats and guaranteed to always be BiS.
I don’t recall them ever saying anything like that, i remember them saying that legendary armor could be something that we eventually get, but nothing stating that they could remove the level cap. Especially as that’s one of the main selling points of GW2, once you’re 80 and got your gear, that’s it, you don’t need to re-gear at all unless you want a different playstyle.
