It seems to me that ANET’s idea of balance is to nerf/break every remotely viable build, until every build is equally weak and unfun to play.

What kind of system is that? It’s the number 1 reason why I haven’t played in months, and it gets worse with every patch.

Blame the terribads who flock to FOTM OP builds instead of coming up with their own. Would you prefer they make it so that you only have one viable build and if you use anything else besides that you’ll be weak?

Balance is extremely important from a PvP perspective, so deal with it and adapt.

I’ve been playing thief as my main since head start. I recommend trying out all of the different playstyles and then choosing the best that works for you.

For myself, I play a S/P glass thief, with no stealth and high damage. I mostly play WvW as a duo/party roamer. I do not recommend my playstyle for solo-roaming or zerg warfare but I absolutely love it myself. I have never seen another S/P thief in battle so it’s definitely an under used playstyle in WvW, but one that I feel is excellent for providing great damage and control.

I preordered as well, and I got what i paid for. The game 3 days early, my ring and 7 days bank access golem. OP got what they paid for as well. I fail to see an issue here.

It can’t be rectified. There would be a hundred posts complaining that they don’t want to lose their stuff and that they somehow did it by accident and lost everything and that they want gold refunded.

I just don’t see it ever happening. It is way too much of a hassle with all of the t3/runes/etc. and the potential for the forums to erupt in angst is not worth it IMO. (not saying much considering it happens almost every patch day).

The price of lvl 80 rare weapons is almost directly related to the price of precursors and the demand for them. Doing anything to interfere with that is not something that can be done overnight due to the huge effect it would have on quite a few markets.

How do you suggest they make a borderland feel more at home? If you’re going to suggest something like that, at least have some ideas.

Main reason I want to try a different class is simply because I want different weapons. I agree, the Initiative thing is addicting; you just don’t realize it until you switch lol. when you go to a different class. Everything feels so slow in comparison. I mostly used D/D and P/P. I tried all the other weapon sets and didn’t like them too much. I would’ve used more S/D if it wasn’t as bad as it was..(unless they buffed it?). I’d occasionally switch to a bow every now n then.

I play S/P – SB roaming in WvW and I love it lol, no stealth but high damage in full zerker, but I guess if you’re really not feeling it I’d have to agree to go mesmer.

Honestly, I say stick to the thief, at least until 80. I’m approaching 1k hours on my thief and I’m still finding new ways to play the class.

It’s actually made me almost unable to play other classes due to the cooldown system feeling too clunky, not to mention the awesome mobility of the thief. What weapons were you using if I may ask?

Did you spend any time in the mists learning about what to do? Do you at least have the amulet/sigils? Sounds like you should’ve tagged along with one of your ally’s for a while.

They can’t do that. The reason why you can still do dungeons is because it is a separate instance, but when you log in, you are entering the main instance and you can’t go there when everyone else is on a separate build.

There is just no way I can ever see Anet doing something with this. It’s way too much of a hassle for such a rare issue.

1. No. Run with a guild or something. Everything will be trivialized if we have NPC’s to do all the work for us.

2. I see no evidence of a gear “grind” yet. I see a set of gear made for fractals that is IMO completely optional and provides minimal stat boosts for those who are in to that.

That’s almost impossible from a code perspective. A programmer would have to intentionally make it so that different people had different loot tables from others.

First off, welcome to the game! It’s great to see more non-conventional thieves these days.

S/P is great in PvE. It has near perma blind, plenty of CC options, a very nice gap closer/get out of trouble button and an awesome daze that when used correctly will essentially prevent any wind up attack due to its lack of CD and cast time.

I do recommend finding your own way to play by trial and error, but I’ll give you some tips;

As stated above, there are a few options, either blind>AA or PW are what I would recommend. Both are good and will keep you alive while up close and personal and both do almost the same damage though I do like the stun that comes with PW.

It’s great to open up with Infil Strike because from that time on, you have 13 seconds to do your damage and if you get in to trouble, just use Return and you’ll be right out of the fight. Use it again when you’re ready and continue killing.

My build is not so great in Dungeons, decent in PvE and really good in WvW so take this with a grain of salt.

It is extremely glass cannon (which is why I’m terrible at dungeons) but I feel that it’s so worth it to see the high numbers I get. You could probably go a bit more tanky if you’re just doing PvE, but don’t let the low HP scare you, with all your dodges and blinds you shouldn’t be taking much damage at all anyways.

My duo roam WvW build

S/P – SB very occasionally
10/30/0/0/30 DA(III) CS(I,X,XI) Trickery(VI,VII,XII)
Zerker everything + Scholar runes – 11.3khp
Fire + Paralyze sigils.

It’s a dangerous but rewarding build IMO. I’ve never heard of anyone else running it but it works out quite well for me. Basically, just make use of all of your control abilities to keep them locked down and use PW whenever you can and couple it with Haste whenever it’s off CD (48sec traited). Always have a shadow return ready to go and when you get caught, SR>switch to SB>5>5>5>gone. Also, make use of steal a lot (it will be on a 31.5cd) as a gap closer/clutch heal and for dem mesmer boons.

I wouldn’t recommend it for a solo roamer unless you have a lot of experience with it, but if you roam with a group of friends they’ll definitely love you for your CC and damage. Also, this build has no access to stealth (besides Hide in Shadows if you take it) so if stealth is important to you I do not recommend this lol. I was tired of using stealth so I made this one myself.

Anyways, enjoy.

You already have daily’s to keep you playing. Would they award a player with an extra 28 laurels a month? That is way too many in addition to the 40ish you already earn if you keep up with your daily’s.

Not to be rude, but this isn’t really the place to be making diary entries.

Full time s/p WvW Thief here. Sounds like it could’ve been me lol. (what server?) With a popped assassins signet and a few lucky crits, I’ve seen numbers reaching 10k with a hasted PW on lv 80’s (zerker I assume), and that’s without buffs such as might. Couple that with the fact that I can get a couple of them off in just a few seconds and it absolutely destroys people who don’t have a lot of stun breakers or don’t know how to dodge properly.

Honestly, I don’t know why everyone hates on the build. Sure, you can’t take on 5 people like you can with lolstealth builds, but overall I find it really fun. Also, I am the definition of glass, zerkers+scholars and 10.9k health but yet I still find it easy to survive with my group of friends, or even on my own.

For advice? Learn to dodge/use your stun breakers. Nothing makes me more mad then when someone dodges my Infil Strike>PW because usually I’ve already popped my assassins signet and haste and now I’m stuck in place batting at nothing.

I’m sorry but its just when you work on your character after salvaging ~15000 shields
for iron/seasoned wood, trade in the gold (tirelessly clicked for) for gems, then see gem value fall in value. It makes me doubt that the fall is due to the gems being bought, since ANet has been spamming all these gimmicky items in the gem store, which makes me feel that they are going low on cash and need more.

With the new “fix” to IS, It’s pretty depressing actually that I feel like I’m being forced to use gimmicky stealth builds for lack of a better option.

Umm IS was meant to have a 1200 range, said so in it’s tooltip.
People complaining that ANet FIXED not NERFD, but FIXED it so Thiefs can no longer have a “Get out of jail free card” skill, that has been rumored to be useful up to 2000 range, so pretty much, yes they changed it, but they changed it to how it was spost to work, they didn’t NERF it like everyone is saying…

I am not going to argue with you about the definition of a nerf, but I will tell you it was not fixed. It is now way more buggy then it was.

As others have stated, the tooltip also says it returns you to your original location, not in a tree/underground/a random distance from your location to the original location.

I really just want to know why Anet seems to force us in to stealth every patch? They say they want the thief to have mobility, then continue to remove mobility skills.

As a S/P SB thief, I was a proud non stealth user. I loved using my IS tactically to get in to fights, and if it went bad, I used the one escape I had if it was still up. Now what am I left with?

PW was nerfed, and that was okay because haste was a bit over the top. Haste has been since nerfed, so why hasn’t PW been brought back up? Right now my autoattack chain does more damage. If it wasn’t for the evade I wouldn’t even use it.

It’s like they want us to completely convert to stealth users. Then what? Nerf it so thoroughly that no one ever plays thief again?

I am now approaching 1000 hours on my thief main, and the only thing stopping me from scrapping it altogether is the amount of time and money invested, and the fact that no other class interests me. I won’t go stealth and I won’t quit the class Anet, but it’s really unfortunate that I am kitten because of the way I like to play.

It’s pretty unfortunate that s/p thieves got completely shafted this patch. Not only does it bug out upon use, It is no longer an escape tool. Anet, you say you want thief to have mobility, then implement a “fix” that pretty much forces thieves to use stealth instead.

Really not with how they’re going about things as far as thieves go.

Perhaps you haven’t noticed the dozens of other threads about this same topic, nor the responses from a few devs that they are working on a solution.

Keep in mind, you can take breaks from this game whenever you want, and you can also come back to it at any time.

I don’t know if this is at all what you were going for, but after reading I was inspired to do a quick concept of what was in my mind. I’m looking forward to seeing what you had in your mind as well.

I would love that for sure, and I feel Anet is making steps towards that by implementing ascended to WvW and I’m sure there will be more uses for the thousands of badges many players have down the road.

Basically what im trying to get at is that they should make a fun way of making money for ppl who love wvw and not just running CoF path1 10 times in a row. Sure you could argue that running CoF path 1 is fun or do crafting. But when it comes down to it if I love wvw and that’s all I want to do your not going to make enough cash to save up for a legendary etc.

CoF p1 should never ever be the standard for money making, if it was up to me it would be made harder/less profitable. With that said, although it would be a nice thing to have a bit more income as a WvW player, I would much rather have people playing WvW for the sake of playing WvW, rather than it being the FOTM get rich avenue.

People are already complaining about laurels, adding more time gated content would cause these people even more grief. I like how it is now, You can play sPvP completely free, and you can make money in WvW relatively easy. It works.

It would cause inflation. You can’t have an aspect of gameplay giving you free money and not have gold sinks to go along with it. In WvW, even as a duo roamer I make way more money then I spend on repairs. sPvP on the other hand, costs nothing.

This is an MMO, not a single player game.

Steal skill is one that is unnecessary, honestly, and only exist because they called the class the Thief.

Any thief that doesn’t make use of steal every time it’s off CD is either a new thief or a bad one.
