The problem with AH builds is that they only work well if your tem is around. In soloq where everyone runs off and leaves you at mid by yourself you are better off going with a medi build.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
How about just convert badges into tickets? I have about 3000 badges with nothing worth buying with them.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
You know, if Anet just gave me a guaranteed win I would gladly sit on the sidelines to give the 4 team a fighting chance. A little pop up asking you to volunteer and send you back to spawn until their 5th comes back.
That and adding a mandatory click of the ready button to eliminate AFKs would do wonders for soloq.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
If they just made the kitten hammer dodgeable or reduced the size of it’s AoE and reduced the amount of areas you can be pull/pushed into the map would be decent enough for soloq.

@penguin
Any tips on fight engis on point with your sword build. On my axe build I would just range them until the go low enough then pop stab and zerker stance, rush in and evic them to death. It worked every time. With the sword build I don’t quite get enough range damage to bring them down low enough and end up having to melee in a pile of AoE for much longer. it is proving to be quite difficult.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
If the guardian is running full medi he has no stability and 2 stun breakers. Bring a Hammer and you should do quite well.
If you are running an Axe build you will have to fight really well to beat a really bad medi guard, they just have too many blocks and blinds to get a reliable burst.
A hybrid sword build also work well, you don’t have any CC but the extra mobility and constant condi pressure coupled with good direct damage will wear them down. Also your burst skill (final thrust) doesn’t waste precious adrenaline when missed.

I can’t believe that my post got infracted for just saying that the devs just ignore useless skills and traits. I’m just calling it the way I see it. Every profession has skills and trait that are worthless or bugged and have been that way since launch.
Maybe I’m wrong, maybe it’s the guys telling the devs what to do that are ignoring these.

It would be great for farming lower level mats like linen.

So the thread about how awesome skyhammer turns into a thread about how aweful it is within a few days. Wonder why that happened.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
I’m curious to see if this thread will grow to be as big as the one that says Skyhammer sucks and should be removed from rated play. My guess is not. Don’t get me wrong, it is a great map to have fun with friends on your custom server or in hot joins but to have it in soloq is just wrong.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
I thought that was what Hotjoin was for.
Not even close. Hotjoins are noob stomping ground, one-sided beatings. Playing against AI’s will help new players understand the fundamentals of spvp before they move up to hot joins.
Cap and hold the the little colored circles on the ground. Not much to understand there. The fundamentals of PvP is playing against other players, hence PvP. Players are unpredictable unlike any AI Anet could make and the only way to learn how to fight them is by actually fighting them.
Being able to read the battle field (and the minimap) and figuring out which point deserves your attention is not something an AI could teach. The only way to learn how to PvP is to play some PvP. Hotjoins, although not perfect, is the place to go to learn the basics. The matches aren’t rated, your performance doesn’t really matter, and you can hop in and out at your leisure to modify your build. Since nobody really cares about winning or losing you can feel free to make all the mistakes you want.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”

This is my roaming unsuspecting foe build cause I am a junky for high damage100% crit. Earth Shaker combos. It’s a fun build to play but it has it’s hard counters. Sits around 24-25k health in 2700+ power WvW with stacks. 40% crit chance (100% for ES) I went with Melandru runes cause I like being virtually immune to CC.
I love that build. Only downside is that you can get almost the same outcome by just equping a sigil of intelligence on your hammer so you can get much more power and still maintain the crits.
True, but then to have to worry more about timing your CDs and swaps. You also lose either the sigil of force or sigil of impact on your hammer which are a significant damage boost in favor of 3 guaranteed crits on swap. It’s kind of a toss up really. Plus being able to ES 4k and swap into a 9k final thrust is just too sweet.

I had to modify my build slightly to adapt to them but Power Rangers aren’t OP. They are actually pretty lame, if you have decent mobility. They just have 1 OP skill and that is all the rely on. Deny them that, get in melee and they are completely useless. I don’t know what Anet was thinking when the buffed RF they way they did. Giving a OP skill to a lame build doesn’t make that build any more viable. It just gives Rangers an even worse reputation, not only are they useless, they can now troll. Climb up high and pew pew pew from a distance while your teammates do all the work. I hate fighting them almost as much as I hate having them on my team.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
With 3k armor you are actually sitting at 2720 once thick skin and doly sig are used up. That is fine for roaming but if you are going to be zerging you want at least 3k without thick skin and doly sig which is a minimum of 3280 when you are looking at your build OOC. You could go as high as 3400 armor but anything beyond that is just a waste.
I would play around with trinkets to get the desired stats cause they are much easier and cheaper to attain than an ascended armor piece. Build for roaming where you need to be your best then switch out your trinkets to get more toughness when you join the zerg.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
The main problem with Ranger is that there is an over abundance of bad ones that just spam their skills off CD. Have you ever been ready simultaneously burst a boss down and the stupid Ranger fires point blank shot just as you activate your skills? That is the reason Rangers aren’t welcome. It’s easier to kick them all then to filter the good ones from the bad ones.
I don’t know what it is about this profession but out of all the classes, ranger seems to have a higher % of really bad players.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
I push far on some maps where the point is close and I can get there fast enough to keep it contested, denying the other team early points. Many times I end up 1v2 for a bit before getting out and joining the fight at mid. After the match is in full swing it really depends on what is going on. If I can sneak out and get a quick decap, it’s worth it. I’ve won many games by pushing far and denying the other team points but you can’t push every time. You need to be able to read the situation which unfortunately not many people do in soloq.
I got kitten from one of my teammate once for pushing while the other team kept zerging mid leaving their home completely unprotected and forgetting about it. We won by over 200 points yet I was still a stupid idiot for pushing far.

Nice build, I ran Hambow in WvW for the longest time. It seriously lacks mobility (especially out of combat) but if you are running with a tight group it will work well.
Personally I would remove the 10 points out of tactics cause leg specialist isn’t that great with hammer anymore. The AoE cripple will only trigger the 1sec Immo on the first person it hits before going on CD.
With those points you could trait for Merciless Hammer and Destruction of Empowered for a significant DPS boost.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”

Rifle needs a whole lot of work. I don’t understand why they removed the bleeds fro the AA when the rifle traits are still in the precision/condi line. At least with the bleeds we could spec for Attacks of Opportunity and get an extra 10%.
I like Fiorrello’s idea for Kill Shot. It would work awesome with fear me.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
It would be interesting to get a statistic about how many matches in skyhammer are 4vs5 because people don’t want to play this map.
I’d be more interest in know how many intentionally afk so they don’t get the dishonored debuff.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
How about 20 rated PvP win in a month? There is no spectating in solo/ teamQ and those actually doing PvP still get achieves.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
I think it might be very good for some solo roaming but that’s about it. It wouldn’t be effective in big fights, I mean next to useless. I’m in the process of making one to try it out but since I have no stock of Charge Quartz it’s going to be a while.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
Ranger is still the easyest to beat class, just got one good skill what can be dodged because that have a 2 and a half second cast time. If you cant react on a that long skill pls never drive in real life. Normal human reaction time is 0.2 second what is 12x less as the cast time of RF. So if you are not brain dead you can react after the first and befor the second hit
How does that factor in with ping? Average ping would be .1 so by time it comes to your computer its probably at the .2 or .3 mark. Then your .2 reaction. So by time you dodge you find yourself copping a great deal of it. If you are an overseas customer you are catching most of it before you can do anything. So the skill in its current form is not ‘fair’ and needs some sort of cast time.
So at worst under crappy conditions you might eat the first couple arrows. So what? That is maybe equal to the longbow AA?
Raid fire has a pretty long cast time to deal its full damage by burst standards. Most the people complaining about it are dying because they have crappy situational awareness. If they gave it a cast time before it hits they would need to make it 1 big damage spike instead of a channel. This would make it even deadlier to the people that can’t be bothered to look around in pvp.
That is total nonsense. Most people can not react before they are copping a good dose of it. And if you have 2 rangers you run out of dodges pretty quick.
I’ve spvp’d on a ranger since launch and the current state of the class is embarassingly OP.
What is embarrassing is players like you who cry that Ranger is OP instead of learning how to deal with it.
I have also played ranger since launch, I am currently playing an a/a BM ranger build…and I have absolutely no problem with longbow rangers.
Rangers aren’t OP, RF is. As a single skill without taking into consideration the rest of the profession, RF is very OP. Instead of fixing the class Anet just tried giving them a OP skill to make up for all the lackings. What they should have done is fix the pet mechanics.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
Maybe if and when they implement the map voting system they will finally be able to gather the data needed to determine what is blatantly obvious. Skyhammer sucks and a large majority don’t want to play it.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
I would agree with ResJudicator to a point. Rangers ARE NOT OP. I consider myself a pretty good “power ranger” But as Res pointed points out “They trade being able to easily burst from range for having a harder time supporting their team.” Which is true to a point. Having a well rounded group allows a ranger to free roam and help on contested points. Being able to do a lot of damage makes us a glass build. For everyone who complains about ranger burst it comes down to L2P. WE are easily dodgeable but you have to have more situational awareness. People who think it’s an easy class to play by just pushing two and you win…..you are wrong. There is a whole lot more skill to it than just #2 button. My favorite retort to everyone in chat who rages “RF is to OP or sniping coward” is L2P.
But that is precisely what the majority of those FOTM rangers are.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
Personally, I think it comes down to just building yourself to benefit your team.
There’s alot of available build potential if you stick to that mindset.
Which means having a build that can stay alive. Not having a LB in PvP at the moment is a sure path to respawn.
I don’t think that’s true.
LB is definitely great from a perspective of “I need this for me”. If your team has a really strong team presence you can easily get away from LB.
True, it really depends on your team. I speak mainly from soloq experience where teams are somewhat individualistic by nature.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
Just because you make 1 weapon OP at 1500 range doesn’t make the class viable. It just makes it favorable for trolls to pick up so they can surprise pewpew someone to death making Rangers even more hated and disrespected than ever before.
Be quiet OP warrior. Too many reflects!! So OP!!!
My reflects wouldn’t be so OP if every Ranger out there wasn’t running the exact same build, using the exact same rotation and would learn to do anything other than spam their skills off CD.
Seriously though, I agree that Ranger needed a buff but I feel sorry for what Anet has done to your profession. I hope you are ready to get QQ’d, insulted and have every one of your wins discredited over the next 6 months.

I think the complaint was that content was rush out every 2 weeks without polish and everything felt like a bi-weekly achievement grind fest cause it was only available for a very limited time. Also, Scarlet is probably the most hated, annoying villain every to grace the face of Tyria. I mean ugh, talk about over staying your welcome.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
They already did, it’s a little trained monkey with a LB. It looks pretty cool, it RFs at the same time as you. Oh wait, that was an asura ranger next to the human ranger. Nevermind, my bad.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
For PvP the changes aren’t that drastic, it ruined a couple of build but some new builds emerged. In PvP you are in combat like 90% of the time so the decay doesn’t really affect you. Overall Warrior is still strong but more balanced because of it, even if it rendered some skills and trait completely useless.
You can tell that they didn’t take WvW/PvE into consideration when they made any of these changes and those are the players that are getting hit the worst.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
I take every I said back. Rangers aren’t OP, they are just broken and rely on a cheap low risk skill and cowardly tactics to win. They are just as lame as they always were now they just have a skill that gets them notice by making you vulnerable to other peoples damage.
Despite that, the amount of FOTM LB Rangers is just staggering. It just as bad or worse than it was when warriors and thieves were popular.
WARRIORS NEED A NERF!!!! It’s so unfair that they can negate all ranged damage for about 17 seconds straight without using dodges! OMG so OP!! With 1 adept level trait they can reflect projectiles for about 7 seconds straight!!! 1 of their heal skills turns my rapid fire into a huge heal for them!!!
There is simply no way to fight this!!! I mean…. there is… but I don’t want to change a single thing about the way I play because change is scary!!! Please Anet nerf these OP warriors now or else the game and all the puppies in the world will die!!!Where have you been the last 2 years? Since launch Anet has nerfed our damage at almost every patch. Since last spring they nerfed the kitten out of our hammer, LB and Axe damage. They butchered our core mechanic indirectly nerfing our sustain at the same time. Warriors are far from being OP now.
Rangers could have been in a good place but Anet did a kitten job at fixing your class and broke it even further.
Nooooo!!!! Warriors are OP because… reasons!!!! If I rapid fire them and they reflect it I will die!! Canceling rapid fire would require me to do something so reflect is OP!!!!! NERF ALL WARRIORS!!!! Think of the puppies!!!
A well deserved lol.

You can’t kill them solo, if they scale up to match 50+ players.
Another problem regarding GW2:
GW2 is not designed for farming (Especially not 1-spot-farming), you’re supposed to move around the world of Tyria.
I’ve done with 20+ people around. Quite honestly I didn’t it was that great of a farm. I much prefer doing the event trains in orr or even dry top.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
there is no boss, problem is zerg moves to the sides and let vanir conquer the point so it resets faster for them to keep farming
What about those 3 corrupt something or other? Kill them and win. the are not that hard. I’ve done on my ele, guard, and war.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
It must be my play style but I fair much better on my zerk Axe/bow than the Celestial. I survive longer and am able to keep more pressure. Maybe I’m just playing it wrong but with the celestial I die a whole lot more.
The moment you find opponents able to kite you properly, you’ll start thinking about celestial, trust me.
You get kited just as easily with the celestial build. I got a LB with a super strong AA especially when the sigils of air and fire proc, I can kite right back. I do struggle against some Ranger builds (mostly dcause I first get surprised RF from behind), some Mesmers are just so kitten confusing, I just can’t keep track of where they are but that is a L2P thing . Condis can be cleared, the attacks applying condi can be blocked, and the isn’t enough condi application on the Celestial Axe to overwhelm someone with. I find direct damage to be much more reliable. Like I said, I hardly ever miss an 8-10k Evic.
EDIT: Although I still firmly believe that the zerker axe (in my case anyway) is better than the celestial Axe. I have to change my opinion on that Hybrid Sword Build in the OP. After dueling with and being on the receiving end of it I can attest to the amount of pressure in can put on someone.
@ penguin
Have you tried using strength runes and traiting dual weilding instead on leg specialist? You already have enough condi management, the extra 10% damage you get from these 2 combined is really nice. I was critting 1.5k AA on a bunker guard earlier.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”

It’s not hard to complete the event. Just solo the boss (and lure him into the zerg ) while they kill the champs.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
I hate to break it to you but with out a longbow you will be one of the warriors that suck. Hambow, Axebow, SwordBow, GSbow are all viable weapon sets even riflebow and macebow would be better that the set you are thinking of using. if you don’t believe us, try it and you will see how sadly dependent we are to the stupid bow.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
I’ve been noticing this a lot more lately but often times I try to fire the skill, the animation starts but nothing happens. I’m not getting interrupted, I’m not canceling or dodging, the skill doesn’t go on CD. I just have to try firing it 2 or 3 times before it goes. Is this happening to anyone else or is it just me?
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
@aboves, Axe zerker will be usable just like how zerker hambow can also be used. but it won’t be as good as axe/sword celestial just like how zerker hambow wont be as good as ptv hambow. and only ptv version of hambow is viable in serious play right now.
It must be my play style but I fair much better on my zerk Axe/bow than the Celestial. I survive longer and am able to keep more pressure. Maybe I’m just playing it wrong but with the celestial I die a whole lot more.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”

Use it.
Thanks for this. I’ll use that until they fix it internally.
It’s obvious to me that since no Dev has bothered to comment on this in at least a dozen threads since the change that they have NO intention of “fixing” it.
Again, I’d just like to know why it wasn’t included in the UI to begin with…..and why that answer seems to be some verboten subject…..
Here is what they had to say about why they chose this setup.
Curtis Johnson: Source
“We felt it was important when selling something to know exactly what price your buyer was going to see. The change also is the least cluttered way to address feedback we received previously about profit including / not including fees and wanting to be as clear as possible on the order of operations.
We’re balancing a lot of UX design against desire for more information with the new UI.. We’ll be watching to see what sort of confusion comes out of this and may or may not re-introduce a net profit display later”
lol….has anyone every worried about what price the buyer sees? Also, there is plenty of room in the UI to show us net profit using a smaller font without making everything look cluttered.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
@Ehecatl Every one of my PvP build has a longbow. It is a mandatory weapon to be any kind of viable at the moment and I do hide behind pillars and stuff (thats point defense 101) but the thing is I am stuck waiting there until one of his friends shows up and I either run and leave the point to be capture or kill his friend and die in the process leaving the point to be captured. The whole that Ranger has done almost nothing and gets rewarded for it.
Wait, why is one of his friends showing up to make it a 1v2? Why aren’t you calling for assistance?
1. I repeat, have you ever got anyone to communicate and cooperate in soloQ?
2. I’ll just stand there and type while I get myself killed. I am good and fighting, not at typing at the same time. So, no I don’t call for help, I just gtfo and go fight somewhere else.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
Then everyone truly hates rangers no matter how OP they are and you will still have to put up with the crying for the next 6 months.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
Ranger are not OP at all. So stupid to think so.
You have to be a huge idiot not to be able to counter the “OP Ranger’s”. So many things to avoid the RF’s or just flat out kill the ranger in seconds.
Dodge once – Evaded half of the RF
Projectile Reflection – Make him kill himself
Retaliation – See Above
Interrupts – Duh.
Just a few no brainers. Telling Rangers in sPvP/WvW to “L2p” when you cant do any of these is just down right hypocritical. And if you run a straight up damage pew pew build, they go down faster than RF’s animation
Btw, people are only complaining because before this patch, no one liked Rangers so not many people played them in WvW/sPvP. They aren’t used to fighting Rangers so they QQ when they lose to a class they have hardly fought against.
Btw, Btw, Rangers were pretty decent before this patch, I’ve mained a Ranger since launch and had never felt underpowered or useless <—- People who say they were underpowered/useless are sho shillyPeople QQ because Anet did to Rangers the exact same thing they did to warriors 6 months ago. They over buffed them creating the new FOTM OP profession. Now you will have to put up with the complaints and try to justify and downplay your OPness for the next 6 months when Anet will nerf the kitten out of you to overbuff some other neglected class. The meta wheel keeps going round and round.
The problem is Rangers haven’t entered the meta yet.
give it a month or 2.
