I hear we can still get crates though. If so, that would be an amazingly positive move by ANET because despite being RNG, Sclerite weapons would still be a longterm goal by Southsun farmers.

Contrary to the complainers, we are quite a versatile class. We have:

- Stealth
- Instant weapon swapping

What if instead of being forced to use Mortar and Supply Crate, we could change our elite slot into a 4th utility?

Having a 4th utility slot instead of elite would greatly emphasize the versatility of Engineer, and free up our utility space to let us use at least 1 kit.

One possibility this unlocks is allowing us to use all 3 offensive turrets with the Wrench to heal them.

So wouldn’t it be a great idea to turn the Engineer elite into a 4th utility?

Engineer tips

in Engineer

Posted by: Kain Francois.4328

Kain Francois.4328

A lot of people I meet ingame don’t seem to know the tips and tricks to being a GOOD Engineer.

Feel free to post any advice most people overlook.

- Race is VERY important! Choose carefully, because race affects your Tool Belt! (Sylvari get an “oh kitten” button which lets you block for 2 seconds. Whereas Charr can apply Vigor to all allies.)

- You could give you and your team stealth by spamming blast finishers with Smoke Bomb.

- Don’t just spam 1 with your Flamethrower. Instead, take advantage of the might stacks in offers to burst enemies with your bombs and rifle!

- While in Flamethrower, keep in mind Air Blast can REFLECT projectiles!

- Likewise, the “random spell” Toss Elixir U creates is either a Thief’s smokescreen or a Guardian’s Wall of Reflection. This will be incredibly useful in high level dungeons.

- Elixir Gun is an incredibly versatile kit. While not a good source of damage, keep in mind it serves many other purposes besides healing with Super Elixir. Fumigate is a LOW-RECHARGE condition removal on allies (but not yourself), whereas Acid Bomb (the leap) is a blast finisher.

- I would not advise bothering with Tranquilizer Dart/1-spam because the weakness it applies is only HALF a second on bosses! (Though it may be useful on normal foes.)

- Remember /Shield! While the Rifle is a sexy piece of big damage (and horrible animation), your shield possesses some of the best skills in the game! In a single offhand you have a ranged block (a daze in melee range), a blast finisher, a knockback, a reflect, and another daze which strikes multiple targets!

- When using either Rifle auto-attack or “Coated Bullets” (piercing Pistol) click the enemies behind your intended target. This allows you to aim your piercing shots a lot easier.

- The trait Coated Bullets of pistol not only makes your pistol pierce, but also makes it EXPLODE on every enemy it hits! When fighting multiple foes lined up, this makes it VERY powerful!

- Likewise using Coated Bullets, you are able to hit the same enemy twice if you shoot him from maximum range. (This can also be achieved if you jump while shooting.)

- Bomb Kit is your strongest auto-attack in the game. NOT Flamethrower! (You will be surprised how many players overlook this.)

- When properly traited, Bombs and Grenades apply VULNERABILITY to foes with each tic of their AoE. An engineer alone could easily maintain 25 stacks of Vulnerability on a single foe.

- Move inside a foe when using “Grenade Barrage” for maximum damage. This is known as the notorious “100nades” attack. (Also applies 7 stacks of vulnerability if traited.)

- Use Healing Turret and your team will thank you. Learn the timing of its Overcharge to combine it with Blast finishers for a SUPER team heal! (Keep in mind Detonate Turret is a blast finisher.)

- Weapon kits count as a weapon swap for the purpose of sigil. However, keep in mind Sigil of Battle has a 10 second cool-down.

- Deployable Turrets allow you to place turrets on WALLS!

- Static Discharge (“Tools” Adept trait) is VERY powerful! Very, very awesome!! Not only does it deal great damage, but it hits MULTIPLE foes, has NO cooldown, and it could be chained off of Tool Belt skills which activate twice! (Such as Mine Field or Turrets.)

- The Engineer could achieve near-perma vigor by combining the traits “Infused Precision” and “Invigorating Speed”. With the Tools Grandmaster trait “Adrenal Implant” and perma-Vigor, you have one of the highest Endurance regeneration rates in the game!

- Condition damage is overrated in PvE. Be a man and run full zerker! (Or at least Knight’s if you’re not too confident yet.)

That’s all for now. Post your tips and I will add them to this post!

Suggestion: B.o.B Blast after Damage

in Engineer

Posted by: Kain Francois.4328

Kain Francois.4328

Hey, I have a slight buff suggestion that would greatly improve Engineer versatility:

What if Big Ol’ Bomb applied a blast finisher AFTER damage? (Much like the Shield offhand)

Right now the Engineer could use Big Ol’ Bomb with Smoke Bomb to give himself 3s of stealth. However, this is useless in combat because Big Ol’ Bomb has too much range and it just places us into a revealed state.

The solution to that is to make Big Ol’ Bomb apply its Blast finisher AFTER dealing damage in order to effectively make use of stealth.

It’s a small change, but I think it would greatly improve the Engineer’s roles at being versatile and controlling mobs.

CTF Game mode?

in PvP

Posted by: Kain Francois.4328

Kain Francois.4328

After playing a lot of 2_fort on TF2, I wondered what if GW2 had a CTF-style game mode?

Would anyone like it? I definitely see how it would improve sPvP roles:

Engineer and Necromancers could be a defense force to guard the intelligence, setting up turrets and minion to ambush your unsuspecting pray. (Close-corridors combat makes the engineer a force to be reckoned with, packing immobilize and bombs.)

I imagine Thief would naturally use its stealth to bypass foes, much like the Spy of TF2. A slight nerf to stealth in PvP might be necessary (burning and chill shows a thief’s silhouette, as opposed to “revealed” condition.) but I do imagine Thief would be a vital role.

Warriors and Elementalists I imagine to be like frontline scouts. They lack the offensive and defensive capabilities of a Guardian in sPvP, but their mobility options and stun breakers allow them to blaze through an enemy field, in hopes of outrunning the foe.

Guardian, as said above, would be your run of the mill frontline user. They buff allies, heal, and pack a punch! They are like pawns in a game of chess, growing stronger in numbers! The role of a Guardian in a CTF-style map should be to brute force their way to the flag. They are key to front-line, direct assaults.

The Ranger I imagine to be a defensive unit. Like their names imply, they are focused on range. Going high up on a hill and firing their 1500-range longbow allows them to reach distances even an engineer with grenades cannot! (Due to how projectiles work.) Possessing an AoE cripple-field (barrage), a decoy pet they can send out while the Ranger sits back, traps to stall enemies approaching them, the best access to CHILL in the game, and a knockback to flick people off your high vantage point! The Ranger would be a vital defense role to guarding a base!

Finally, the Mesmers are the utility of a team. Able to open portals and turn the tides of a battle with Time Warp, like the Ranger, they are a great unit to sit back and defend a base or aid in early frontlines.

If we look at the success of 2_fort in TF2, we could conclude that the key to developing a good CTF map is large exteriors, with closed, tight interiors where the intelligence is hidden. The closedness of interiors allow defensive roles to be much more planned and organized.

What do you think of CTF? I think it has a lot of potential depth for GW2!

So why don’t you guys just do the same thing, just do it in other zones rather than Southsun. You could easily redesign a few events and make suitable farming locations around the world, heck every zone in the game could have one like the instigators. Then there probably wouldn’t be as many complaints about farming.

In ANET’s defense, that is exactly what they are doing. One of the unstated goals with Temporary Content (I assume) is to test the waters with upcoming content, and to gather data before a permanent addition to the game.

I might be a hardcore farmer, annoyed by all the farming nerfs, but the Southsun ordeal makes sense at least.

Personally I think they need to make Champions drop 10s, or something to make them rewarding though.

I’m sure producing weapon skins are a lot more complicated than simply 3d modelling it. Considering I do 3d models myself, I’m going to give ANET a break on that point.

Blizzard listened to their fans and ended up turning WoW into a piece of crap.

Except in this case, if the rumors are true, ArenaNet is listening to people who aren’t fans over the people who are fans.

I don’t know the inside story, but as we all know, the rumor is they removed Asian-influences because nationalists were offended. Problem with that logic is do you know ANY Chinese or Korean GAMERS offended by Cantha? The people complaining to NCSoft and ArenaNet are probably just the ultra nationalist activist groups who probably don’t even play video games in the first place.

It’s like trying to make a hamburgur party for PETA. What the hell is ArenaNet doing, catering to nationalists that don’t even play video games in the first place? Are they going to start inviting antisemites to a bar mitzvah next?

Farmers play the game, whereas botters do not. (And often-times botters use the gold for malicious purposes such as gold-selling.)

As for exploits, can you really say all of them are a bad thing to be banned over? Without exploits, we wouldn’t have the infamous 55 monk, and GW1 wouldn’t have the recognition it gathered over the years. The question over exploits is whether or not it breaks the game and economy? I have a hard time believing they would ban someone for exploring out of bounds in the Super Adventure Box because it has no impact on the economy whatsoever, and the player does not personally gain anything.

That said, I have a hard time believing CoF p1 is an exploit. It’s simply players speed-clearing a dungeon… Would you say UWSC and FoWSC of GW1 were explotis too? No glitches or unintended design involved. It’s simply players repeating a dungeon in spite of the DR.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kain Francois.4328

What a shame. I only hope the Queen Karka event chain makes up for it.

It’s as if you lump in farmers with the gaming ‘scum’ of hackers, botters and exploiters

There’s a difference?

Yes. Farming is a legitimate way to the game in new ways, while farming gold.

See GW1. People there would farm everything from Trolls in the Shiverpeaks, to Aatxes and Smite Crawlers in the Underworld. They would use a variety of builds to do so, like a Monk build which made them invulnerable to the enemy attacks, to a Ritualist build which barricaded yourself with a wall of turrets/spirits.

Considering the max level was very early in GW1, with little to no progression after that, it was the farming community which kept it alive.

Dragon Bash= Teasing Kralkatorik?

It seems like Dragon Bash is teasing Kralkatorik as the next dragon.

The first clue to this is they are giving the “Shattered” Dragon Wings as a backpiece. The only dragon in the game who relates to shatter-anything is Kralkatorik.

Secondly, the holographic dragon at the end of the trailer looks similar to Shatterer, but much bigger.

Just my theory. I think they’re teasing Kracky. What do you think?
