Best level for opening exotic loot bags?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: KarateKid.5648

KarateKid.5648

Thanks . . . and that’s two conflicting answers.

Which one is the better guide?
Or is there an even better range for opening exotic loot bags?

“fishball” was trolling. Ignore them. Aidan Savage was correct in their response of save all bags for a level 80 to open.

fishball has a good point since at those level ranges salvaged crafting materials are more valuable than what you’d get from lvl 80 gear. And you will still have a chance of getting the champion exotic weapons from the bags even if you are not lvl 80.

Right, s0 if max gold value is the concern – go fishball. If you need the chance at higher level materials (the slower route than “salvage, sell, buy what you really want”), go savage.

I’m sure gnashblade has some means… maybe reach into Player 1’s collections tab and inventory and randomly grab the debt in various high level materials at current price

Traidingpost Flipping should brought in line

KarateKid.5648

(btw, I don’t have lots of gold, ….. I don’t really do dungeons much, because..well, I don’t like doing them daily, it;s boring.
TP, is my way to earn gold, instead of dungeons..why take that from players?)

That’s a whole other issue. It’s ANet’s lack of establishing other methods of income in the game. That however doesn’t justify the obsolete amount of gold you can acquire from the traidingpost without even doing one step out of the traidinpost office.

and really, how does it affect your gameplay? They list items at high prices? newsflash, prices are only as high as people are willing to pay, and would probably still be high without the flippers,
these people keep an eye on trends, or on items that for some reason got listed much lower than normal.

they also don’t create gold from nowhere, and help to sink gold, via tp fees.

They increase the prices for all items on the traidingpost, both through selling stuff more expensive than they bought it and because they can buy everthing easily.

I wrote a detailed reply to this and then my internet cut out, and I’m not bothered typing it all out again.

Prices increases, not because a few people have lots of gold, but because lots of people have lots of gold.

I have a friend, doesn’t play the tp, has more than 1000g, and I make no guess of how much in mats.
He’s not alone.

Making gold is quite easy, yes it’s still quite easy. and this is why prices increases.

And btw, a flipper can put an item at any price they want, if people don’t have the gold to buy it, or deem it not worth the gold, it doesn’t sell and the flipper loses money,
If people do have the gold, and pay it, they are as much to ‘blame’ for inflation as the flipper who priced it high. (If not more so..)

But those complaining have never experienced that end of the equation, so they assume it doesn’t exist.

To those who think it’s all guaranteed profiteering and sticking it to the little people, find a flip and invest just like 10 gold (~1 night of game play) into it. Tell us your percentage gain after the flip. When the market says “oh now you’re just being silly” and refuses to buy AND someone (or several someones) comes in with a newly-obtained supply of your commodity and builds a Wal-Mart wall of low-priced goods, you’ll see that there are counters to all prices.

Want someone to complain about for the high prices – complain about the player community that buys unneeded (right? ‘cause as we keep hearing you don’t NEED anything on the TP) items for whatever price is up at the time – they’re the ones costing you gold.

i have no idea of my fps!!

My feeling is the engine ran great until they added loads of players. By then it was too late to do anything significant.

It is basically a heavily modified engine that GW1 ran and that game was instanced based.

GW2 did appear to run a lot better in it’s early days I do agree.

This is what frustrates me – when I bought this a year + ago, it ran REALLY smoothly at “Best Appearance”, and I had nowhere NEAR the slideshow that world events and ginormous zergs have become.

Admittedly that was a bit after launch; but even between then and mergerservers (between which timeframes we saw a small decline in players in major events), performance seemed to continue to degrade.

For me, it got better this last patch, but worl events are still a lagfest.

Are elementalists really higest damage class? Is it that squishy that I’ll have hard time surviving in pvp? How pvp works, is mass pvp really teamplay or just anyone duels others?

Elementalists have decent-if-not-spectacular damage on their weapon skills. Depending on the weapons you use, condition damage could be as important as power.

However, check out the traits for damage bonuses. Compared to other professions, the elementalist has more of these, and can try to create the conditions to stack multiple of these bonuses.
(E.g. +10% damage against burning foes, +10% damage against bleeding foes, +10% damage when endurance is full, +20% damage against foes with less than 33% health, and a lot of attunement-specific bonuses.)

And finally, the most effective way for elementalists to excel at damage is through effective use of combos. Drop a fire field, and use blast finishers to give 3 stacks of Might in an area (which raises everyone’s damage). If you have teammates with blast finishers, they can use those too.

These particular tactics give an explosive (but usually temporary) boost to elementalist damage output. If you don’t use combos or traits (or runes/sigils or food buffs) effectively, you will probably find your damage slightly below average.

This is a very accurate explanation of why ele’s are said to be highest DPS by many.

I play primarily ele’s; so I think there’s a caveat. Not played a warrior or guardian, but ele’s total DPS shines against groups of mobs.

I did more single-target damage with the ranger I deleted and with the engineer I still have. When I can group mobs up and apply direct damage and condition ticks, I can clear large swaths of ground. When it’s a single champ or above, life starts to suck.

I found the necro to be the same or slightly better potential dps vs mobs, but then there’s that whole lack of mobility thing they have going on – which results in lots of running awa… repositioning.

EDIT: Forgot – This is another strength I found in ele that necro didn’t really have – the ability to build them such they can do high DPS vs. a lot of mobs, take one or two direct non-one-shot hits, and dodge or otherwise quickly maneuver out to prep for another pass.

And some of y’all need to go back and read the post all the way through – you missed OP putting perspective at the end of the post.

I have ONE custom keybind on my mouse (a thumb button bound to dodge) and have NOTHING custom-bound on my Roccat keyboard for Guild Wars 2.

You have very few buttons to begin with, so keybinds/macros aren’t really needed for anything… relative to games like FPS’s and such.

As far as other features of gaming gear: I wanted heavier-duty MX keys because I have a tendency to smack the snot outta keys – it prevents re-buying for 3-4 years. I destroy cheap keyboard space bars in a year otherwise.

I haven’t even considered mouse sampling rates/mouse resolution ONCE in Guild Wars 2. FPS’s, sure; but not in this game… just not necessary.

You should not worry about your age, I’m 16 and for many months (until the megaserver) I have been the main Teq commander of my server with 80-90 people following me on TS and I never had problems. If what you say on TS is useful (if you’re trying to help), many people will probably like you.

My son (14 at the time) and I joined a group back in Season 1 and when the commander started speaking, it was obviously a young teen. My son muted and hollered across the house “it’s a kid!” I said “shut up and listen where he assigns you”. Successful event, kid or no, is successful event. And it was.

Age means nothing – competence and actual leadership characteristics go a longer way.

Hmmm hang on. Where in the options can you re-bind mouse scroll wheel to Mouse 1? I dun see any variable that allows that in Control Options.
Does this work on karma and scroll of knowledges?

The person suggesting this assumed you had a mouse with drivers that allow reassignment (like Logitech, MS, and all the gaming mouse manufacturers like Roccat, Razer, etc.).

If your manufacturer didn’t supply this functionality:

On Windows, cnet has a link to a free app called “X-Mouse Button Control” that does it for generic mice. If on Mac, you can use a free app called USB Overdrive. If on Linux, /etc/keymap is there.

Ah ok. i thought there was an ingame function to do that.

We all know the media/fansites get interviews in before Tuesday as they need time to prepare and write. One of the sites (I forget which) asked about new legendaries, which was received with a “no comment”

Normally you get responses like “when it’s ready”, especially since we know that new legendaries were worked on and then delayed. A “no comment” is suspect, and perhaps these writers got a whiff of the possiblity that new legendaries may come July 1st.

And they were hoping that unid dyes would also be used in new ones.

Oooooor they were fed insider information.

I think randomly spreading unfounded rumors about insider trading doesnt do anyone any good.

wooot? 12g in a night…so i guess about 6hours of playtime ? to get that much gold you must have a huge zerg yourself and the other servers also a huge one AND winning every zergfights for the heavy bags + trashloot for salvage and never spend more then 10min at a tower to get it for the champ bag ? thats sure not a normal day in wvw imo, maybe a friday where huge karmatrain zergs run around and never defend anything and when they clash they drop much much looot

I dunno his/her pattern, but upper-middle is where the market’s sweeter. Too high, and the rarity slows you down; too low and the sell price is too low. get in that tier 4 and tier 5 range and availability is high, your sales move quickly, and at a decent price.

If FGS trash mob farming – ~3-5G/hr

If running around primarily harvesting and mining – ~1-2 G/hr

Hm .. do you sell all stuff at the TP ? 10 T6 fangs/blood/claws is already over 4g and in an hour i normally get more than 10, so i would say its 5-8 g/h for FGS trash mobs.

Mining and harvesting .. i can make maybe 6-10g/h .. however having 13 80s helps alot with that

Not all – I usually bank a small amount (say 1 or 2 of each?) and sell the rest. That way I can maintain some for either crafting OR to quick sell if market price spikes.

I only discovered my current farming pattern for farming this past week, so branching out for other mob types to see if they need to be added (ex: finding out polar bears and dredge are a waste of time) is also eating up some time.

I have 4 playable characters, but I don’t use but maybe two in a single day – like I said, that got REALLY boring for me.

Edit: Oh, and I only found decent claw drops last night – prior to that, it was fangs, scales, and the occasional couple of bloods.

That’s why gold per hour is a little better way to communicate the concept.

If FGS champ farming – ~2-3 G/hr
If FGS trash mob farming – ~3-5G/hr
If level 55-70 region trash mob farming – ~2-5G/hr
If running various non-world boss events – ~1-2G/hr (varies wildly with which region)
If running around primarily harvesting and mining – ~1-2 G/hr (I think – it gets so boring, I don’t think I’ve ever done a sustained hour of just harvesting and mining).

I don’t often run Orr champ/event train; but when I have, it’s been ~1-3 G/hr

Edited to change salvaging to mining.

Would it also be OP to request a feature from EQ2 instead, that we can flag items for “no sale” ?

Because .. in the end the main problem is just the inventory sorting and hassle with invisible boxes so that we don’t sell maybe a dagger because after a switch it lands in a normal box.

Why is it most games (never played evercrack, so dunno) have the absolutely worst insight put into inventories? I understand limiting you to only so much storage – that’s a revenue stream; but unless you’re selling “Inventory Management” as a category in the gem store, why suckify on-character inventory?

EDIT: Here’s a SIMPLE quick fix that would help immediately without requiring the complexity of like a gearset: Put item in slot, right click item while in slot, choose “remember location”, then do so until that item is removed from on-character or destroyed, at which point the inventory slot becomes fair game for use by any other item.

Suggestion! OOC Elem swapping

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: KarateKid.5648

KarateKid.5648

No – it would make ele’s too OP and they are already OP.

Ele’s already have 4 separate skill trees they can use with one set of weapons and that is = to the other professions having 4 sets of weapons to switch to. Wait – they only have 2, so no – you want ele’s to have 8 and the others still to have 2 – that would be OP, even if it was out of combat.

Every profession has a weakness in their builds, and that is why the game is set up the way it is. Having more than one weapon for an ele to swap to would mean that weakness would be gone. That is not fair and that is not balanced.

Your argument has about 0 merit right here. It’s an OOC weapon swap. Anyone can already do this by opening their inventory or hero panel. They’re only asking for an OOC weapon swap due to the fact that your offhand (and this goes for all classes) often times ends up somewhere random in your bags, and when some of us have 160 slots it can easily take a while to find when your bags are near full.

RIGHT!

For those who aren’t getting it – OOC=OUT OF COMBAT, meaning the only OP-ness will be against, like trees or ore nodes or gasp AMBIENT critters. If you’re worried about them being able to complete Daily Ambient in uber form, you haven’t thought that through.

Worst I can see happening is while in combat, the elementalist is stealthed by a thief and can swap weapons (which they can already do) OR ele steps out of line of sight, waits till all aggro drops (by which time the fight’s likely done) and switches weapons.

A question about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: KarateKid.5648

KarateKid.5648

I’m not disregarding what you say about Guildwars 2 being a more relaxing experience for an mmo overall but there comes a point when people just want more of a challenge something to work towards like a wall to get over not only alone but with friends and guild mates. The whole game is currently built around casual players but there becomes a point where people want/need more progression. Before anyone says go play <mmo> here if you want a challenge I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t love this game for what it is.

I agree. There should be more challenging open-world content, but for smaller groups, since the bigger groups already have Wurm and Tequatl.

Champ trains are so ridiculous, and they need to be stopped, whether it’s in Queensdale, or in Frostgorge, or anywhere. It’s just a big zerg, running from champ to champ, with no challenge or strategy, at all.

Anet needs to kill them once and for all, and stop encouraging it.

The easiest solution is to just put them on random timers. They could’ve also made them available as guild missions.

Once champ trains are gone, then players will start doing other content again, such as temples, dungeons, etc.

As it is currently, endgame for gw2, is seeing 50+ people running in circles from champ to champ, because it’s currently the fastest way to get loot. This doesn’t happen in other MMOs, and it just feels like amateur game-design.

Quick solution: Random timers & Zone-wide announcement that a champ spawned.

Oh yeah, by all means, kill the champ trains. But don’t come crying to me when the price of t6 mats SKYROCKETS and you have to pay for them through the teeth.

I don’t agree with the rest of this post, but that last line actually sounds like a good idea! Whether as a replacement or in addition to existing champs, I don’t know; but it would generate a little excitement and improve upon DE’s (which currently only announce in a given radius).

As well as this the queensdale train was a huge problem for the state of the game as new players who have just created their character not only saw constant toxicity in the mapchat from the sheep but they got sucked into thinking that following a mindless train zerg was how the game was meant to be played and failed to actually explore the rest of the world.
/thread.

The only time QD train became heated was when someone was actively and quite purposefully antagonizing it. Kind of like the terms you are using against your fellow players in this thread. And, to even mention EotM and use PvE as some derogatory term too??? Sounds like you just don’t like seeing others have fun or be rewarded in game.

The dev’s would be wise to leave EotM alone and stop antagonizing the majority of their customers. Attempting to force players into playing in a fashion they do not wish to is not a good idea. There’s a big difference in encouraging and forcing. The dev’s should be mindful of it.

I guess you were ofline the 5 days out of 7 when the people on the QD train would Literally curse out players for taking a champion out of turn….

or is it your position that mearly takinga champion By yourself qualifies as " antagonizing the champ train"?

Could it be you feel the champions all belonged to the Champ train?

FGS has always been more civil* than Queensdale, but that might be changing. Last night there was some anal fissure cursing out the fact that quaggan and troll had been killed out of order. That’s not normal for FGS (typical reaction is “meh”), and I hope it doesn’t continue.

Have any of you actually tried recording your drops over a period of time? I have, and they tend towards a consistent rate as long as you are not triggering diminishing returns.

Also, as I said earlier, it is all about CONSISTENT INCREMENTAL ADVANTAGE, find a routine that works for you and stick to it.

We all have to get the same components together to craft each legendary, if you are having difficulty it is more than likely a problem with your approach (or attitude) not the mechanics of crafting the item.

I don’t play the market to speak of, but I do make smart purchases when they present themselves.

A majority of my materials come from drops and salvaging, the rest come from promotion through the mystic forge.

And by no means was I advocating the use of laurels as a primary source of T6 materials, I was just mentioning that they were an alternative source for the material boxes that OP had mentioned first.

Speaking of finding a routine, I may have just done that tonight.

To the tune of ~50s a minute via t6 farming.

If that’s not a fluke and is consistent tomorrow night, I may have to rescind my advice on T6’s AND apologize to anet.

This is an interesting theory as I have been farming world bosses over the last couple of weeks & the loot dropped mostly consists of white & blue mats with the occasional green & yellow item. Cursed shore loot is far from great (spent a lot of time there recently). Maybe I am unlucky.

World bosses give a guaranteed yellow as the chance for more in their chests. Admittedly it was much faster when it was easier to do more than four bosses an hour.

With Cursed Shore the trick is to go for the events that spawn a lot of adds and tag as many as possible. Use weapons that hit multiple opponents. Events like the temple of Grenth (after the priest is killed) should really give a lot of heavy mouldy bags, and t6 mats drop at a pretty decent rate from these.

Also, magic find is worth having. If you are getting more whites than greens it is probably pretty low.

This is not dependable – I will go for weeks getting mostly greens, a few blues and avg 1 yellow per hour (open world 65-80 non-boss content – dungeons tend to be slightly better; open world bosses, too).

Then for a week or two, there’s NOTHING but white items with an occasional blue.

Ain’t nobody got time for that.

Just saying there’s more than MF at work there – and if it’s RNG, it’s a horribly “bursty” one.

This has led me to focusing on mobs that drop mats reliably and harvesting almost exclusively.

Which led to an interesting couple discoveries – for those interested in gold,

1) you should be focusing on t4 and t5 materials, not t6. On a per-hour basis solo, I can make 6x my average from running FGS’ train (with the caveat that if exotics are dropping frequently for the user in the train, it will make more – I get about 1 per hour, maybe 3-4 rares per hour).

2) it’s kinda ridiculous in MOST farmable 50-70 areas, trash mobs drop more in resale value than mobs in 70-80 areas (even adjusting for the difference in kill speed).

Solo Play: Warrior or Guardian?

Which is best suited for primarily solo, PvE play, Warrior or Guardian? I’d prefer a tankier build.

Thank you!

Depends – I solo almost exclusively – my preferences are my two eles and my necro (in that order). The necro is slightly more survivable, but she moves so much more slowly than the other two. I engage Champs, but avoid elites unless in a group.

Works for me, too – if you’re on a Mac or in Linux using a wine derivative, click and hold FIRST, then press alt – doing it the other way around gets funky occasionally (no rhyme or reason).

Huge ruins spider overscaling?

It’s been like this since launch. The spider isn’t over scaling, it just isn’t a normal boss right from the start.

Even though the game says it’s normal, the Huge Ruins Spider has more HP than a champion-tier foe, without taking into account the amount of people actually trying to kill her. That’s why it’s so hard to kill.

This. The reason people are now taking notice of it is because of the larger pool of players on the same map due to megaserver.

Add event scaling on top of the spider’s already broken non scaled stats, and you get a mob that has an exponential amount of health.

I recall fighting the spider alone just a few months after release and giving up because of the sheer amount of HP it had. I knew to avoid it from then on.

Yet, maybe 2 months ago, I remember my at-level character beating her and she felt no worse than a comprable champ. I think she got fixed, but broke again somewhere along the line.

I don’t know how long this has been going on but it seems that the huge ruin spider from the event at Mount Maelstrom is overscaling. Has anyone else completed this event in the past and remember if it always had so much health?

That’s not overscaling, she’s bloody invincible.

Hi everyone.

I am a researcher and professor at the University of Toronto (soon to be at West Virginia University), …

I initially read that as “…at the University of Toronto (soon to be West Virginia University)…” and thought there was like a hostile takeover or something I hadn’t heard of.

It’s just video game logic. The same kind that says that bats occasionally carry around plate armor, skeletons can bleed, fire elementals can be poisoned, you can fit 80 greatswords into your backpack, and if you ever need four spider legs you have to kill 37 spiders to find them.

Skeletons do bleed. Bone marrow is where your red blood cells are produced. In a sense your skeleton is always bleeding.

we had a good vibe going… it’s gone now. :|

If I do whatever I need to do to ‘tag’ a monster such that it counts towards a monster count, if said monster is part of an event (for example), or otherwise and subsequently awarded experience for killing said monster, then I should at least be rewarded a blue [bag/shell/wallet/purse/backpack/fanny pack/messenger bag/cell phone belt holder].

It seems to be very inconsistent now, whether you are given anything at all, and clearly have done plenty of damage.

If I were to guess, it seems like what is happening is the first ‘n’ people to ‘hit’ a monster are added to a “ok, we’ll give you a bag” table, and then your performance on the monster determines white-orange bag. You could be the n+1 person to hit a monster, and do far more damage than the nth person, and still get nothing…but, get XP, event completion (if applicable), monster count (if applicable, say for an event or Slayer count).

That doesn’t make any sense.

Just in relation to being first: I’ve noticed some bugs with various champs and have purposefully made sure I was first next go-around and kept doing as much damage as possible. Some still bug out, so it’s not the first hit thing.
