I don't like doing daylies anymore

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

They wanted to limit the amount of achievement experience you could get. To do that they also used a system that limits the amount of variety. I would prefer they handle those separately. Say only x number of the daily choices will give achievement experience, but have more choices available.

I don’t have difficulty finishing the daily, but I do often have to check to see what needs to be done and go specifically do something to finish it off.

I would like saved sets of looks that you can switch to easily. I would like to change my looks with my mood or what I’m doing with out the barrier of using up charges or having to recreate a look I had. I like Lotro’s system of having sets that you switch between.

I would be ok with having to transmute the first time you make your look but after that I would like to freely switch between the looks.

I love the account dye system. And I like the megaserver most of the time. It’s nice to have populated areas all over the place. Especially Orr.

Google Chrome and IE have problems with security right now so people don’t have to be logging into suspect sites to be compromised. It is a false sense of security to think that you are not at risk. We are all at risk with the hackers now. People should opt for as much security as they can on their email and everything else.

Guilds, flexibility vs. commitment

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katz.5143

Katz.5143

There are different types of guilds.

-Small guilds with family and close friends.
-All purpose medium to large guilds that do everything, are organized, do guild missions, schedule activities.
-WvW focused guilds.
- PvP focused guilds.
-And so forth.

I believe the purpose of allowing membership in multiple guilds was to allow for people to indulge in gameplay they enjoy without having to leave a guild that they have ties to and friends inside.

I am guild leader of a small friends and family guild. We don’t have rules about representation for the very fact that the members have diverse interests. We will never be large enough to do guild missions. We don’t have guild drama and running the guild doesn’t become a chore or second job. Depending on peoples work schedules, we can muster enough for a full party to do dungeons or whatever.

I like having it flexible. I think the specialized guilds, such as ours, are inherently more flexible because we realize we have a narrow purpose. I think the all purpose medium to large guilds who intend to be all things to all people are inherently restrictive on the requirement for 100% representation. I can understand why, they don’t want a member list of people who are not representing or participating in the culture of the guild.

Even though I understand why guilds require 100% reputation and why they begrudge people wanting to participate in other types of guilds, the effect on me and others like me is that I don’t join those guilds. I see the 100% rep requirement and know I can’t do that.

Personally, I wish that some of the guild features would be changed to remove the penalty and barriers of being in multiple guilds. I can think of two changes right off that would improve the multiple guild experience:

-Guild chat across all guilds you belong to.
-Influence being applied to all guilds you belong to.

As it is now, you could be doing activities with one of your guilds (the flexible one) and contributing all your influence earned to the restrictive guild because you have to rep them no matter what. That isn’t fair.

tldr; I would like changes to be made to allow both types of guilds to thrive.

Lack of leveling content in zones?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Katz.5143

Katz.5143

“I’m asking why there isn’t enough in a zone to get you through the appropriate range in the zone. "

Most people here on the forum are not giving you a satisfactory answer since they haven’t come across the problem. Generally by doing the personal story and completing the zones the story goes through, you would finish above zone level. So they are not advising you to do anything different from what they have done themselves. You are in fact claiming that there is big problem of experience within the game, except that it isn’t a problem for anyone else.

To get more xp you can:

- Do dungeons
- Do low level fractals
- Do personal story
- Do living story (when it returns)
- Adventure in more zones, there are about 3 zones at every level range
- Use xp boosters and xp food
- Collect resources
- Craft
- Explore cities
- Explore WvW, and PvP maps
- Do dailies
- Do events
- Do activities
- Complete jumping puzzles
- Follow the living story
- Do guild missions
- Play WvW

That’s not by any means an exhaustive list since achievements and other stuff probably give xp too. There’s no point claiming there is nothing to do in game to get xp.

Again, I am NOT asking about what other ways I can gain experience. I’m well aware I can do a bunch of stuff I don’t want to particularly do (like my complete lack of interest in WvW) to gain experience. Telling me to go do something I don’t have interest in is not exactly an answer. My question isn’t “What else can I do in general?” It’s “Why did I just 100% map complete a 40-50 zone and only end up at level 45?”

You said that “Generally by doing the personal story and completing the zones the story goes through, you would finish above zone level.” I have found the exact opposite. I have 100% completed every map I’ve done on the way to where I am, and I have consistently found I am very underleveled for the zone I just finished by the time I’m done with it.

I already found my answer. The answer lies in the fact that zones are completely and utterly different in this game. Sure, I can kill mobs all day to level from 40-50 in the zone, but that isn’t “content.” The zones are just poorly gated and the answer lies in having to do a smattering of a whole bunch of different places and going all over creation to progress if you like progressing through zones. I just have to retrain my brain and get used to the lack of cohesive, progressive gameplay.

You’ve got it there. The only other thing to mention (sorry if someone said I stopped reading replies), the living story content also typically provides things to do when it is around. But yes, the only content to follow in a progression of levels is the personal story.

Please add the harvesting back in to be doable each daily. Please add enough sPvP and WvW so that you can complete in whichever area you want to play in that day.

Logic: so that the result is you play what you want for that day and are able to complete the daily while playing.

We should be completing our daily while playing the game, not having the completion of the daily as the point of playing.

Getting ready for April 15th patch...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

You may be confused on the WvWvW. It isn’t level that goes account wide. It is your rank that goes account wide.

Other than that, I can’t think of anything else to do.

You read the same article? They directly say that your WxP will be pooled across all characters.

Yes, they said that they will pool the rank experience across your account. (Levels are something entirely different, I thought he was talking about levels instead of ranks.). However, they did say that it will not be the sum of all of your ranks added together due to the lower ranks not requiring as much wvw experience to obtain.

Orr is a chore

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Katz.5143

Some suggestions:

1. Don’t try and get the vistas, poi’s, etc. as you go through the first time. Instead, run as fast as you can down the safest roads and unlock as many waypoints as you can. The first time through, your goal is to unlock waypoints through all orr maps. The reason for this is that you are more likely to have a useable waypoint later when you go back to get poi’s, sp, and vistas. Also, you may just level up to 80 doing this (if you aren’t already) and find a temple open where you can use karma to get the level 80 exotic armor (if you need it).

2. Now that you have cleared the maps and made waypoints visible, it will be easier to head toward groups if they are there. Look for commander tag and run with groups doing events if possible. That way you can finish part of your mapping in a group.

3. I had a stack of revive orbs and repair canisters in the bank as I got them from chests, etc and never used them. If you have these, be sure and take them with you. For skill points guarded by a champion with no group to help you out, make sure you die right at the skill point. Use the revive orb and immediately commune with the skill point.

4. Sometimes you will see others who seem to be mapping also. Ask in /say or whisper if they want to work with you for mapping. It works well for one of you to pull mobs while other communes at skill point, and then swap.

5. Make sure you load your skill bar up with skills that will help you with surviving, escaping, running, etc.

6. Watch the mob animations and which type mobs cause you the most problem. Eventually you will learn how to time your dodge for maximum escaping the evil undead ones that pull you.

7. Mutter to yourself…if death is so good, why don’t you stay dead already as you run past the mobs.

8. Try not to get frustrated.

Why is there still no dueling?

in PvP

Posted by: Katz.5143

Katz.5143

Speaking as someone who didn’t PvP for a long long time and has come to embrace the spirit of PvP more recently, I want to add some support for this.

I think that open world dueling adds a lot to a game.

First of all, since it has to be agreed to by both parties, you don’t participate if you don’t want to.
Second of all, its a great way to hone your skills.
It is a great way to pass time while waiting to do something.
It is fun to be a spectator to duels.
It would even add to roleplay where you could have a real “bar fight”.

The game suffers from too little to do that is unpredictable. This would add in something to do.

It would be much better than the verbal dueling that currently dominates map chat.

What is the point of being in a guild?

My guild is made up of family, long time friends and their friends and family, and so forth. The guild bank is an easy way to help each other out with loot and crafting materials. We’ve leveled the different things in the guild as we can. We are too small to do guild missions so we are almost out of any goal for using the influence points to get. That’s about it.

One of the things to keep in mind is that people are individuals. Some of them are self-sacrificing and will risk being downed themselves, some will rez if it can be done safely, some will not ever rez because there is a waypoint or they don’t want to be downed or whatever reason.

In other games we sort of self selected into these roles by choosing our class. Here, people who in other games would be playing a class that can’t rez, now have the uncomfortable position of being something they never seek out in a game.

Last night when I ran the event, plenty were rezzing others. Sometimes people got left behind I’m sure. When its fast paced, chaotic, and timed, you are going to have that result. It is inevitable.

I like the system in Lotro, the loot auto-accumulates and you go through it when you have time to sort through what to take and what to reject.

A true autoloot system would be a huge improvement. Yes there are work-arounds and blah blah blah. And really, this isn’t an autoloot system, it is an arealoot system. There is nothing auto about it.

The point is, what makes you immersed in a game and makes a game look polished and feature rich?

A true autoloot function both allows you to be immersed in gameplay without having to remember to spam a loot button and makes the game look more up to date.

Is it game breaking? No. Would it be an improvement? Yes.
