I do like all the supporting characters though – even the minor ones such as the quaggans, asura, and sylvari around the camp.

The simplest solution for ANET to fix the situation is by having map colors rotate so that in a one month period each server has rotated through each map color.

Meanwhile, I’m on SoS. I got map completion by setting my alarm clock on the weekend to get up at an atrocious hour for me so that I could map the Oceanic taken areas on the maps. I don’t know if that will help you or not, but it did take me weeks to complete and weird hours on the weekends for playing.

Last time I died after a while I got the “you will disconnect if you don’t move” message. Was that glitch? It took the same amount of time as if I were standing still but alive.

Ah well. I skipped that LS. Was burnt out on the temporary content. No clue what is going on.

When I think about the things I’ve liked about the living story, it’s often overshadowed by stuff that ruined it for me. What I do know, however, is that it’s getting worse. I wonder if the development teams are getting as burnt out as the players are.

I agree with most of your report card. I’d say SAB however is good but the temporaryness is bad and especially the removal of previous rewards is bad. So the designer of the SAB does a great job. The deciders of removal of rewards did a bad job.

I like that suggestions that I saw on the forums have now been implemented. Many people complained that the map ignored LS. This adjustment is an improvement.

The plot thickens.

What could they be planning?

I hope they increase the interaction with these NPCs. And I hope they develop the rivalry between them.

I agree. I have plenty of time to complete what I want to do even with my holiday activities irl.

Given how much it costs and the fact that you pay for each and every salvage, I hope they make it rare and equivalent to master quality. I thought they had upgraded it and decided to get one. How are we to know what is a change intended and what is a bug?

Now it is not so useful.

I think every suggestion I could make has been made by someone already, so I won’t re-list those here.

What I will do is list some of the strengths you have and some basic principles (combined with suggestions) I hope are kept in mind.

Strengths:
1. Active combat.
2. Lack of competition for kills and harvesting materials.
3. Harvesting gated by your level and the harvesting kit level you can buy rather than a skill you have to tediously level up.
4. The ability to work together while not having to be grouped together.
5. The combo skill system where players skills can complement each other.
6. All maps remain relevant due to the automatic level adjustment of the player.
7. The experience required to reach a level is consistent instead of being exponential.
8. The maximum level cap is available now and not something that will be increased later.

Principles to keep in mind:
1. Keep true to the strengths of the game.
2. Avoid introducing anything that is “alt unfriendly” and work towards being alt friendly in all things.
3. Avoid introducing things that create competition for kills and harvesting nodes.
4. Think about progression in ways that aren’t necessarily tied to levels or gear. Many suggestions were made here. Two that really appeal to me are wardrobe skin unlocks and weapon skin unlocks.
5. Work with what you have in the game. The karma vendors for example are present. Update them. Karma heart vendors should have a “unique look” armor set and “unique look” weapon set per map that isn’t obtained elsewhere. You could add recipes to all karma heart vendor maps for skins for town clothes that are unique to that map. This should be coupled with the wardrobe skin unlock system. Karma vendors that just have the same few foods on them should be updated to have regional or town specialties.

Considering I hate when they don’t have skins available again for these events, I’m going to say, Thanks for having the skins available again!

Holiday events should be fun things that you do with friends. Even the pvp part.

Are the presents exploding randomly or is it that people aren’t avoiding the ones that cause the explosions? I’m wondering if this changed or if people just forgot how to avoid the blue ones?

I’m pleased that the skins are available again. I wish they would have had the old skins available for Mad King also.

I’ve been getting a lot of those whispers lately also. The only problem with limiting whispering by account age is that is unfriendly to new players. I’d rather they block whispers in low age accounts that contain key words or phrases like “buy, gold” and others key words.

Besides, if you limit the whispering they will just go back to mail and map chat usage.

Whatever solution occurs, I want it to be new, legitimate player friendly.

I need things to do in the game that are:

1) collecting
2) show progress
3) fun for me to do

A wardrobe is high on the priority list for me.

While they would be reskins of GW1 armor, they are not currently available in this game. Therefore they are new, as far as gw2 is concerned.

I would love to see the armor and weapons from gw1 available here. I would like for some of them to be available in game and not just all on the gemstore.

Yes, but that would be more realistic than me strolling away from the bear.

It is annoying. I know the reasons why they have it but in real life if I was being chased by a bear, I would run faster not way slower. It’s not realistic.

I’m glad they are taking a break. I think they should be on vacation until January 6ish. Everyone needs a break sometimes.

Maybe allow consensual duels outside of towns and in arenas inside towns. However if someone starts dueling in the wrong place, such as near bank, tp, etc. they get arrested by the local law and thrown in the slammer. Then you have to pay bail to get let out.

Edit: And I suggest all the bail money be sent to me.

Where can you see the exact date of purchasing gems? I’m think I’m in the same boat as these guys. I purchased gems recently and I think I just missed the time period but want to check to be sure.

I’ve noticed that they are making some content permanent now while other content and rewards from it are not.

I think they are choosing the wrong stuff as permanent though. I think story, solo, and party things should be permanent. Rewards should be permanent and worked towards over time. The small dungeons that you can do as a party or solo, activities, those things.

The zerg requiring parts shouldn’t be permanent. The Scarlett invasions are not doable without a zerg. Tequatl isn’t succeeding on most servers. Zerg requiring parts won’t do well on most servers over the long term.

Edit: The Scarlett invasions will likely go away when that story arc is completed. Tequatl I think should be changed to a seasonal appearance. That will concentrate people to the dragon and perhaps lead to success.

So, will the final battle be at the Heart of the Shiverpeaks? /ponder

This is a good point. I think perhaps a possible solution would be to separate activities from story.

Every two weeks have activities for the people who need to be entertained with a task list and short term activities.

Then have a separate, in depth, living story that unfolds. Explore all the alliances, learn the back stories, get in to the lore and tell a good story. This part does not have a timeline. It adds layers of stories (that are permanent), adds zones and perhaps quality of life additions.

Two separate tracks, fast track keep them busy and coming back for more stuff track. And whatever time it takes to do it right track, tells the stories and adds permanent features and stories to the game.

I have taken several breaks from the living story due to being burnt out.

I completely skipped Sky Pirates and Twilight assault. I played some of the second SAB but was burnt out from the previous living story so I didn’t spend much time in it. Which is unfortunate because it was really fun.

I tried Tequatl a few times but it was not successful for our groups and then later most times I tried there would be no one in the area.

I’m skipping fractals. I want to be rested up for wintersday.

I’m hoping they adjust living story. I have lost track of most of the story. All I know is a bunch of different groups are randomly attacking areas for some unknown reason and Scarlett is behind it all.

I hope they accept that there will be bugs in the content and adjust it so that the bugs will not create a lot of stress when trying to complete the achievements. I would like to see more story and less grind.

Some of the content I easily complete just by playing through the content. Some is a repetitious chore. I hope they find a good balance.

League: Gold
Enjoyed: Some of it yes, some of it no
Do again: Needs changes and a break from it, but yes.

-The achievements brought more people into wvw. Some of them might stay and that’s good.

- Some of the achievements came through my normal game play and I didn’t have to pay attention to them. That’s good.

- Some of them I had to change to do, such as had to do the jp’s and figure out I should treb stonemist to get demolition achievement. That’s ok as it was relatively painless for me.

- Some were not good. Sentry and yak ones were way too many and too dependent on the other side. I think those ones, especially the yak killer one encouraged bad behavior.
You would be better off to not flip a camp back and lurk around to wait for yaks to spawn. Glad I could skip those and replace with jp’s.

- The matches were way too unbalanced. Often one server dominated too much for the others to have any chance of first place during some or all weekly matchups.

-People started karma training more and more because you just couldn’t hold on to your places against the really high population servers. Some people got discouraged and took a break from wvw. Hopefully they will come back.

I enjoy wvw and use it to relax and take a break from the “living story pve job”. Suddenly, I found myself not enjoying wvw or finding it relaxing until I had completed the 15 achievements. Then I relaxed and started having fun again. I hope they don’t turn it into an achievement job like pve seems now.

I think with some adjustment they can make that better. For example, have 20 or 25 different things to work on with only needing 15 of them. Make them with less to do to get each one. They should just be participation checks but not grind checks. Some one who prefers defense should be able to quickly complete them and then go back to defense. I guess they want to assure that there is something that takes the entire time to do but really that isn’t necessary. Someone should be able to jump in the last couple of weeks and easily complete it. If you like wvw you will continue. If you don’t, why prolong the agony?

It was sort of discouraging to know at the very first day that there was no way your server had a prayer of winning the league.

I think more leagues are needed. I know that it is desired that servers sort themselves out as far as population goes and going 2 versus 1 against the big server. But that doesn’t seem to be happening yet.

tldr: More leagues. Change achievements to eliminate bad behavior and grind. Think about what type of behavior an achievement will encourage. Having to kill 20 or 30 yaks won’t cause bad behavior. However having to kill 200 or 300 will.

Honestly, I think people are just being attention seekers. The ones that get dramatic in map chat over people who are “killing out of sequence” and the ones who are trolling the champ train. Both are just wanting attention. Its a big huge “look at me” moment.

The one’s I feel sorry for are people who are just playing the game normally and would rather not see all the drama and immature behavior in map chat.

The statement’s about reporting people are just empty threats. If they report people for playing the game normally or make up something to report about, they will only get themselves into trouble for making false reports.

Yeah, siege has to be refreshed once an hour. Usually you can ask someone to refresh while you are gone, especially if you give them a time that you will be back.

Its in wvw too.

They probably make a ton more from the gem store than from selling the game itself. Discounting the game to get people into it provides more potential gem store users.

This is a good idea. Anything that is unlikely to be changed or implemented and is often requested or criticized could be put into an easily found area. The only problem I see is, how would you get it to be used? Most likely people would still post in the suggestions thread or other popular areas.

Perhaps they will add a region with giants in an expansion.

I think they should split it out into three stories.

1. Personal story – remains personal. It is centered around your homeland, introduces you to many people there. You find out about your background, your friends background, etc. The dungeon in that area and other things could add to it.

2. The story of the order you join. You find out much more about the order. You do much more with and for the order. Specific order missions, etc.

3. The Pact/Dragon story. Totally separate from the rest. You are working for/with these folks.

I’m one of those who reads things outside of the game because I enjoy the research. I play with someone who doesn’t because that makes it less of a game and more like work to them. To them, the fun is in figuring things out within the game.

I’ve had no problem getting through when people stick together and kill the foes instead of training foes along, spreading out into a long thin line of people with more and more foes behind, dying one by one, with eventually the result being dead people splattered along the path.

Ok, since you said you were using a bow ranger. When I did the instance with a group that had a guardian or warrior, I stayed back away from red circles and used my long bow. That was effective. However, the times that there was no heavy armor with us and no one melee at all, I switched to great sword for the last boss.

I can’t say how that will work for you, I’ve not done it solo. The smallest was a duo with a necro friend.

The hybrid instance is a great way to finish dailies and not that difficult. Perhaps people will continue to do it.

I’ve enjoyed this one.

Good:
—Works well with solo, duo, group.
—Scales nicely.
—Chambers are fun, last fight is fun.
—Rewards are nice.
—Good set up with npc’s at the different levels.
—Like the ability to port to levels.
—Like the way the first 2 levels aren’t too terribly impossible to ascend.
—Like that 3rd level has no port to top so that you can get a group to go up.

Bad:
—Don’t like that you get booted from instance if owner leaves. Hope that changes soon as it is majorly annoying. I suggest that no achievements require you to stay in an instance after it is completed until you change this.

Suggestion:
—Add banker at top level. Would be very handy.

I wanted to do the diving achievement that is from the toxic hybrid instance at the top. The instance owner left before I could get to it.

I know this has been asked for in dungeons. I suppose it is very difficult to change this.
It would be great if you wouldn’t have achievements dependent on not getting kicked out of instances by people leaving too early.

Great idea. I would like to expand this to say start populating our personal instances with npc’s like this.

I would like a personal story npc that functions much like the npc in the hall of monuments. Where you can get the skins of the armor over and over to not clutter up our bank storage.

I would like an npc that you can use to unlock armor and weapon looks. You “show” the npc the armor you’ve collected and it is learned by the npc to be a skin you can obtain on that character over and over. A separate npc could be there for weapons.

A personal story historian npc – one that shows you the personal story that you’ve completed so that you can re-experience it.

A living story historian – similar to above.

Additional personal story like quests that are based on the first half of the personal story. That involves you, your town, your friends, your own story. (It’s almost like your personal story is two stories. The first being personal, the second being totally not personal. I really thing the personal story should be revamped. At the point where you choose your order…. they should separate it. Add stories that involve the parts before that to expand your interaction and knowledge of your home areas. Add a lot of things to do with your order. Then have the last part that leads to the dragon totally separate. Two story lines. One with destiny’s edge, pact, dragon. That is not personal, that is following other peoples stories. )

There is much opportunity to improve a good foundation that seems incomplete and practically abandoned.

Actually the devs specifically stated that the area will NOT return to the way it was before. Even if the tower is destroyed the ruins will still be there and new events will stay in the area.

While the tower itself is temporary, the changes and events it brought are permanent.

If that is the case then the humans and centaurs in the area need to become aware of its existence.

I’d rather they unfold events more slowly and have the areas around the events respond to them. It bothers me that the centaur and others around the tower are totally oblivious to it all.

I’m on the verge of paying for jp ports just to not have to mind numbingly kill another 150 yaks, 125 sentries, and because mist merc vanquisher will not work no matter what I do. I’m terrible at jp under the best of circumstances. Fighting and jumping? Forget about it.

Edit: ALL of the other achievements I could get by normal wvw play. The yaks and sentry ones are just too many of them and too dependent on the other side flipping camps and sentry. And the mist merc just will not work for me.
