…. and we still have no word on trap updates or what direction they are going to take. None of the classes are 100% ready for launch (except maybe Reaper and Chrono) but I feel after BWE3, all of them will be… except DH. Of course there will still be tweaks and touch ups to all of the specs and classes after launch but I feel like we are being so left in the dark with this.

Is the DH feedback THAT negative that DH has just been pushed aside? Reading that theres basically no changes to them for BWE3 means we really have nothing to talk about. Sorry for rant. continue your day

Shield 5 isn’t really a buff. Movement is nice, but having a 1.5s channel was already bad. Now they expect having to hold it for 4 seconds to be worthwhile? Even if you don’t have any better skills off cooldown, that’s just begging for an interruption.

I may not have understood…but longer chanel is much better as long as you can move.
You will be able to absorb projectiles much longer and of course you shoul be able to detonate sooner if needed.

I think you consider that the bubble will come after 4 sec.
I think the bubble will come as quick as now but will last longer.

As a note, we’re aware of the odd interaction between elementalist downstate and Vampirism runes and are tracking a fix for an upcoming build.

This has been driving me nuts since the traits were changed. Purging Flames and Hallowed Ground are much harder to use in melee now, and I usually end up casting them on a wall or in the distance because of camera shenanigans. I would actually take a trait that removes the ground targeting effect if I could.

There are some times when ground targeting them is useful, and I would want to keep that option available if possible. But that’s like 20% of my usage. Maybe add a hotkey to the game that makes all ground targeted abilities cast at your feet when you hold it down?

They are discussing…just cross fingers.
I think saying a balance patch will take place 2 weeks after hot is a bit optimistic.
They will first see how the meta settles then discuss then maybe a patch.
I bet it will take place at the end of the year (2015)the soonest.

I would love to find of a solution to this problem. Its a big barrier for new players learning the game.
Brain dump:
How many of your own cooldowns must you know to be effective. Skills? Traits? Sigils? Runes? Attunements? Kits? Transforms? Everything?
How many cooldowns are too many cooldowns / whats the minimum number to know?
Same question for enemies. How much skill is involved with remembering enemy cooldowns?
Would this new piece of UI benefit PvE the same amount?
Where could this UI live?
First thing that pops into my mind would look just like the quick-loot tray on the right side of the screen with a scrolling list of ordered cooldowns showing name/icon. (No loot in PvP)
I can’t think of any way this could work for enemies.

What pops in my mind is that icd are bad.
When a skill is too strong without icd change it. All these icd rampants everywhere just make the game randomadness.

Metabattle is a bit biaised as it makes you beleive there are several meta builds.
In fact there are only 2: cele dd ele & d/p thief(but max 1 per team)
Rest is acceptable but sub-par.
As a beginner it is nice to play with a good build to figure out that if you loose…it is more a skill issue.

Please give us out-of-combat weapon swap!

There is one positive point on dh:
Guardian is the only profession (maybe with ele) that can already play today the build it will use after hot. As a result we will be much better prepared to rule the world ;-)

I saw a suggestion in the other forum on this topic that was about swapping the effects of Unyielding Anguish, so that it pulses torment, and only applies the displacement during the initial cast of the skill. I think this would alleviate the issues of no counterplay.

It must also not affect opponents under stab.

Guardian are still in some top team but less and less.
Dps guardian is out and has been replaced somewhat by fire guard. This one I think will not last.
There is still the bunker guard but it cannot bunk efficiently and is more turned toward team support. It suffers of its poor mobility and can be efficiently outrotated.
Big power creep is coming with hot and demon hunter looks like a complete failure. My bet is thay guardian will completely fall out of meta and is gonna be replaced by rev. Bad times are coming I fear :-(

You will regret the cele ele.
Look at xerex stream. Rev is a kind of meselethief jungernaut.
-Unkillable (I am more impressed by its survivability than the ele but maybe it is because we don’t know how to play against)
-Doing massive aoe damage even at range (much more than mes with GS)
-Jumping every where to gap close (I feel that with target it can be quicker than thief to reach another point)
(all of these in a single build of course)

This is out of control lol.

I can’t be constructive about this because, I don’t see a way to make Dragon Hunter work without total rework, which is very hard and time consuming for ANet.

I would recommend not to change anything on DH as I do not see how it could not be absolutely pointless. They should spend time more on stuff which need reasonable effort to become decent (in other words: other class)

From a design perspective, Mesmers are more about providing fields and less about activating them. It’s not just blast finishers, Mesmers lack reliable sources of many other finishers too. Necromancers fill a similar role. By contrast you might notice that Warriors have lots of finishers but not many fields.

We don’t always get this balance right (and I think there is a different discussion to be had about when we don’t) but I hope that clarifies what we were going for in the case of Mesmers.

on left side mesmer: weak fields (most wanted ones are fire and water) with few and bad finishers (mostly leap)
on right side ele: tons of fields (the most valuable) with crazzy amounts of finishers (blasts)

Whith what you say above Robert, I understand that there is indeed an urgent discussion to be had on ele. (and also on engi)

Yep…talking about coming nerfs confirmed while they are only discussing about the issue sounds a bit sick to me.

Devs should do the right thing and buff engies.

So you want a second godly prof.
This sounds a bit like a selfish and partial position which does not help.
Devs/designer job is to define a role for each profession. A role that is important (not mandatory) for competition. Once it is defined they have to tune stenghts and weaknesses in a regular basis to adjust the balance but always making sure each profession excels at their main role.

Following the 5/4 ele team winning last esl we have the following go4gw2 rules update:

“3.11. League Specific Rules
- Each team needs to consist of at least 3 different professions.”

So stacking prof is seen as an exploit ? Sounds strange to me.
Maybe it is a desesperate move to hide what balance team is failing at: make professions complementary and avoid god mode one mastering 90% of what matters in spvp:
- 1v1 beast : checked
- godly sustainability : checked
- awesome group support : checked
- top team fighting ability : checked
- mobility : outch .. only second here (still improvement possible lol)

I feel sad that we cannot stack professions in competition as any restriction (out of exploits that must be fixed soon) just hides the problem.

Based on the pathetic amount of conditions DH had in it, it never did. In all honesty, if anyone doesn’t think they can still make a condition build with DH spec’ed, I don’t think they are paying attention to the current meta.

A couple of things. First of all, some of us don’t care so much about the meta. There’s a difference between what works pretty well and what is completely optimal. There’s also a big difference between what works in PvE vs PvP. I think you have PvP in mind, and you might be right that few players would have gone for a condi DH build (which in and of itself is useful feedback), but that doesn’t mean it might not have worked just fine for PvE content before the recently announced changes. The point here is that what modest potential DH might have had (which could have been increased for all play modes with different changes) instead got ripped out of it pretty hard.

We should not care about pve balance…really… as long as all pve content is doable by all prof/spec (which is the case finger in the nose)

Steal is a class mechanic, not a utility skill. Ranger pet skills have cast times. Warrior burst skills have cast times. Mesmer illusions need to run to a target if they’re not sitting in melee range.

Steal is often coupled as a teleport with backstab for burst, or to cover a cloak and dagger animation in WvW where D/D is used.

You’re complaining about powerful effects with no tells but the thief has plenty of his own.

I’m sorry to interrupt your “woe is me” thief parade, but TCG/oRNG/Abjured all run a thief. Guess how many mesmers/rangers/any class that isn’t thief or ele they run?

<1% of the thief population is not in any way a valid sample size to use to strengthen your point. Secondly there are plenty of tells. Anyone with situational awareness and an average reaction time can make backstab fail to deal that much damage almost every time it happens.

So if you are having such a hard time with thief’s sole source of competitive dps, then get some. Or better yet, play a thief yourself and be OP. It isn’t hard.

Already play a thief. Leveled him to 80 from PvP actually. As I did for several alts and I have all professions at 80.

I’m glad you made a tangent attacking my playing skills to divert from the fact that some thief skills have no tells.

It’s just cute how superior you act about mesmer shatters having no tells when your class is full of cheese of its own.

Maybe it will pass with time just as you whined about passive spirit rangers until they too were nerfed into irrelevance.

Whining about what his class is by very far the best at sounds a bit surprising. Conclusion is to netf thieves in first place. (which are with ele the two only mandatory professions for any serious pvo team)
I admit that huge repeated attacks with no tells should not be rampant in gw2. Neither for mes thieves or other.
