Like if you reflected a thief’s shadowshot (d/p3) you actually teleport to the thief instead and they would take the big hit from it, was a good was to catch a person before they ran into a keep. Sadly they made those types of skills in blockable,.

I was thinking that there is a huge problem for gw2 to be an esport. Result is by far too much tied to power of the class.
Let’s face it: a team do not change drastically its composition two month before a competition.
Thus with the poor balanced noticed in the past months Anet is in the end the king maker.
Very efficient cele ele and engi with surprisingly good medi guard and very powerfull shout bow made it possible for orange logo to win in Boston.
God mode ele and nerf to shout bow and medi guard led to a win of abjured in Cologne.
The big surprise was in fact the win of orange logo vs abjured in the first round.

Difficulty is not only a matter of button to smash.
It is also related to timing required…anticipation…good understanding of what the opponent is doing. In these aspects… I don’t feel ele and engineer are the most requiring professions.

Things have become cheesy and bad designed these last months.
We had thief cancer with stealth spam. Now we have the shatter mesmer with pu.
We had already stacking ele everywhere. Now they are god mode with burns.
We had faceroll wars. Now we have rampage wars spamming 1.
We had moa on mes. Now we have aoe moa on engies.
Now with stab change…wvw gameplay is just frustrating as hell.
What bugs me lost is that they seem to have no problem to keep same profs god tier several years while other out of meta.

I would like to bump this thread because it seems it got buried by the DH beta week and now people forgot about it and all the new Shield related threads are adding clutter to the guard forum.
It’s easier for developers to have all the info regarding shield in one thread, especially since it’s already been replied to by the devs themselves.

Developpers already did a great job for shield. But it has been made for the revenant.
The elite specialisation provide tons of support with pretty nice shield skills.
I think you’d better enjoy your cd reduction given on last patch (thx again grouch for this wonderfull solution) because I fear it will take some time before you get anything else.
medi guard: nerfed kitten last patch (less boon duration / less toughness / more dps everywehre which makes its survivability so low)
burn guard: cheesy squishy…not that great all in all
support guard: already too slow to avoid being out rotated. Now with revenant coming … we can safely say that guardian is in a pretty good spot ;-)
I do my job perfectly in a match, I fight outnumbered and win while keeping the point capped, I rotate where im needed, and I hold 3 of their guys the whole match.

Thieves are too strong against too much classes. All zerker class (except guards)are out of meta for more than 2 years just due to thieves.
To make pvp landscape more interresting…I think guards must become a much more hard counter to thieves….you know the kind of hard counter thieves are for all other zerker professions. In that sense we should buff guards or nerf thieves hard because at this moment…guards are not an hard counter to thieves.

the only part which does not bring stats in pvp are the 2 you can’t have when you are low level (shoulders and …)

As for 2v2 and 3v3 arenas, I’d love to see them. What I’d love to see first though is proper balance. I think adding arenas right now would only serve to hurt PvP, and make more obvious the glaring issues we deal with every day.

I think perma stealth is a big blocking point to manage correct arenas.
And in fact this is why I think we still do not have them yet.
Anet should rework stealth mechanic first, and I feel they either don’t want or worst cannot handle this problem.
I don’t think that’s a fair statement. Why is DH not an exciting, well though-out spec? Aside from continuing calls for 25% RS buff, it delivers many things people have asked for PVP-wise. From a PVE view, I don’t think we needed anything so the fact that any of the DH spec is even useful in PVE is just icing.

Mesmers have been hard countered for several years non stop by thieves.
I don’t see anything close to change that.
I would even say it will be worst with all the toxic buffs coming for thieves.
So I would say that anet has never listened…because the main point to look at first is the role of the class in all modes..at least pvp and wvw. All gimmick change is pointless as long as the poor spot the mesmer is stuck at is not changing.
I really hope I am wrong… but honnestly….what will prevent the new op thief (with only what we already saw…specialization is still to come) to chain kitten mesmer harder than before ?
PS stop with dedicated montage to explain mesmer can kill a thief…it brings nothing.
Symbols buffs are nice for Pve. Out of that I see that now thieves have better protection than guardians.

I’m willing to bet warrior will get shouts as a Paragon specialization, it just makes more sense. As for what guardians get, I’m not sure yet.
Isn’t Paragon the succes you earn as a guardian when you win a sufficient set of games in pvp ?
It would make no sense then to have a Paragon spec for another proffession.

Because any time a game introduces a new class they make them completely OP for several months to get people to buy them. Revanants will be giving out stability like Oprah and will be running around with a wall in front of them to block projectiles.

I was not able to identify that our gates was down and got no warning until lord was attacked.
2) Teamplay close to 0
I have been spending 90% of the time alone. People are running to different objectives and are split in the map. Some fights occurs with several people but it is more a coincidence we get at the same place at the same time.
But this is maybe more due to the fact the map is new.
I am not enthusiastic up to now.
This isn’t “good enough”. My focus has shifted temporarily to the Stronghold open beta for sPvP tomorrow. But even so I and other programmers have been looking at source code searching for reasons why some people standing right next to each other have lag and some don’t. Right now that’s the big mystery. As programmers we don’t like it when performance is inconsistent; if it was always lagging for everyone it would be easier to debug but alas that is not the case.

I agree that having one guy not lagging with another lagging 2 meters aways seems a bit surprising.
If it is a server issue (which seems to be the case…but I am not 100% sure) it means that one guy is needing more from the server than the other. This makes me think of the parameters of visibility => number of objects that can be seen regarding the distance from the character. Is this parameter likely to cause (when set high) more calculations on server side or more network packets to be sent to the client ?
It could maybe be helpfull to get the setting from players having lags…
Hi. I’m completely new to this game, but I’ve had a lot of experience with MMOs in general as I’ve pretty much played each and everyone sometime or another, a few of them over a longer period of time :P
I decided to finally buy GW2 when I saw it was on sale, and I’ve heard that the PvP is pretty awesome so I thought I’d give it a try. So far I’m loving it, and I decided to play a Mesmer. But after talking to some people, both in a guild I’m in and RL friends who play this game, they all recommend me to play something else so I can get the “hang of the game” instead of playing such a complicated class as Mesmer.
Are they right? And if they are, do you have any good classes to recommend as “beginner” classes?
You will be frustrated by Mesmer.
It is weak and need babysitting to not be completely chained kitten d by thieves.
And even with a full team behing you top players estimate that they are gimping their team playing the class (see supcutie comments).
As a beginner you will just eat flowers in the ground whole day long.
If you are patient and want something efficient in the end I would recommend elementalist or thieves. These two classes can shine everywhere (WvW GvG / Roaming / sPvP and PVE)
Yes Thieves are top class also for dungeon clearing.
no 2 more class has the ability to stack confusion . engis and a bit warrior.
if we buff the dmg they will get buffed too and i think already now we dont want that

Shatter mesmer is the only viable spec in pvp …but it is far from being in a good place.
Elems / Thieves / Wars and engies are in a good place (and it seems since last WTS…medi guards also…but less used in tournaments)
Mesmer has been constantly chained nerfed and let in a state of a serial victim of its most cheesy opponents: the thief.
Nothing has been done but breaking more the class. I honestly don’t get it: why so much hate ?

Dp thief have huge role in gvg today…I would say unfortunately as it is cheesy with no counterplay for the target except when it is a thief.
In fact thief is kitten meta in all part of the game…even pve (but this is pointless)

With 1 to 2 ele per team in tournaments there is currently more need of changes to reduce the ele supremacy rather to make them even more op.
Controls and aoe cleanse would help to enhance teamplay…this would be good. 50 sec cooldown on a weapon skill..seriously… with all the spammy prof (thief..engi…ele) this is not fair.
Builds hard to play are for me the hardcountered builds.
And to my humble opinion there is nothing more hardcountered than a mesmer (any builds) by a thief.

Ok after several weeks of major lags … someone decided finaly to lower caps to check what happens.
Things seems better now..but of course less player can join.

I really appreciate someone is looking at the issue…but reducing the number of player cap in two weeks of unplayable periods is far from what will be necessary to come to a serious conclusion.

Here’s the issue I am having with this whole thing. Why is EotM normal, but all WvW maps horrible if more than 35 players start fighting?
Seriously there have been times when flame ram skills take 10 seconds to fire with no blob in sight, you quit in disgust, port into EotM, and no lag at all there even with 2 full mapblobs colliding?
Nobody uses stability in eotm i guess.
I hate to mix logic with useless sarcasm, but wouldn’t that simply indicate the problem is more likely in some coding bug specific to the WvW maps, and not stability?
No problem in EoTM.
No problem in map filling blobs on PvE at Teq, or other world bosses, with stability ticking there.
What about those, indicates it has anything to do with stability change? I mean other then regurgitating what some other random, uninformed poster claimed somewhere else, that is?
In PVE you will have 100 people in a map, all in the same side and even if they put stability it will easy to manage for the server.
In a WvW fight, you have 270-300 people in a map, thats 2-3 times the numbers o n PVE, now realise all of them spam conditions, damage, pop stability, boons etc… There you go. Without the stability part, it was sometimes laggy when 3-way fights came, but nothing comparable to current lag, which makes game unplayable.
About the EOTM part, well I think someone said, probably because all that people do is 1111111111111 most part of time

As to “claiming” players in EotM do not use stability, even thought the fights are as large as regular WvW, that seems extremely straw man.
It is as if, you are molding the situation to suite post is which you have already blamed stability, simply to avoid having been wrong, rather then trying to actually address the fact that it is more reasonable if the problem is a WvW specific coding issue, just like it has been in every other lag situation since release.

I was just asking in TS on JQ and everyone is telling me they are having no lag issues this evening.
There was definitely skill lag on JQ this evening. It only happens when you get into blobby situations. Two server blobs going at it would give you 1-2 sec skill lag. When you have 3 server blobs in close vicinity, you would start getting 5-10 second skill lag. If people didn’t experience it, it’s because they weren’t near the blobs.
Note that we’re talking skill lag, not just ordinary ISP, video driver, memory, computer issues lag. Skill lag are when you press your abilities, they flash, they queue, but they don’t fire off like they’re supposed to. This is all server-side, started happening when they did the stability patch.
People are suspecting it’s due to the amount of computing required with the new stab changes because this skill lag started happening with the stab patch. Anet would know, and apparently they do know and have been trying to fix it but haven’t been able to. They really need to fix this before HoT comes out. With new influx of returning players, and even more polygons and art assets from the newly designed borderlands & maps, it’s bound to get even laggier upon HoT release. So the skill lag issues really need to get fixed before HoT.
You see, I was in a 3 way garri battle on TCBL last night on 5 separate occasion. I specifically asked in the TS channel, because I wasn’t having any skill lag issues. Everyone told me “no, no problem here, skills are working just fine”
I am not suggest you did not have any lag. I am simply suggesting it is a fact that some people are not. I have a spouse, son, and two grand children playing at my house last night, and no one had skill lag issues. So my concern is, what is the difference between your situation and mine, and how you suggest the stability changes effect you, but the 5 accounts at my house had no trouble and the 49 players in my TS channel all said it was fine for them?
I have had the skill lag hit me in recent days. So I am well aware it exist. My whole point is that I find it interesting that one day it is there for some, and the next it is there for others.
By the way, have you specifically tried the fix they posted about?
