Any map that rewards having a certain class to a high degree is worthless for tpvp. I know its basically all maps since only certain classes and builds are really optimal in tpvp but really if you don’t have an ele on this map and the other side has a good one you are at a huge disadvtange. Thats total failure for a game that tries to tell you to play what you want basically all classes can do most things. Thats the most irritating things about Build Bores 2 is the farce of extremely customisable classes with tons of viable builds and options. Yeah right!

The main problem is that obviously this system treats somebody with 10 games played and a 60% winning percentage much like someone with 200 games played and a 60% winning percentage. So what you have is people with a ludicrously small ammount of games played keeping people who play more from even showing up in the rankings or showing up far lower in the rankings then they should. I’m not saying quantity should count over quality but there has to be a better way then whats going on now.

The difference between the HGH build and all other OP builds from all classes that have been nerfed is the HGH does not exploit anything. All skills, runes, and sigils are in synergy. Name one facet of the build that is an exploit or an unintended use. You can’t.

The difference here is everything is in use. Two maxed out trait lines. All skills and tool skills on cool down almost all the time. Constant swapping. It is a lot of work to have high damage and it is at the extreme cost of survival.

Other builds that have been nerfed class wide have been nerfed due to unintended advantages and exploits. This is clearly not the case for the HGH build.

Thats not really true at all. Any time a class can do x and the devs decide x is something bad for the game it doesn’t really matter what causes x.

Could probably be tightened up more. They have to be careful though people will whine if the wait was long then a couple minutes. I wouldnt worry about fighting groups like Gasmic myself (the others mentioned are much better) but you do get too many premades solo-queueing. It was one thing before but the population has been steadily going up since the laurels.

It’s still not proven that it works. It works ingame (W/L) but we don’t know if the rating takes a hit or not. I hope Anet can provide us some info on this matter.

It is 100% proven it works and if you want to do a little digging you will find a post from an A-net dev from awhile back saying they know its a problem but fixing it is a lower priority then custom arenas.

How are you going to have leagues when there are a handful of dedicated groups in North America. I do nothing but Tpvp the ammount of premades (that are more then a bunch of newbs or pugs banded together for one session or series of games) is not large. People have all these grandiose ideas personally I like the idea of customized areans but until the pvp population gets much larger and A-net rewards competitve play more they are going to be nothing but a fad in the end imo.

There are actually people that will try to tell you that its perfectly fine for scepter auto-attack to work like this because its actually meant to be used for short distances like 600 and guardians don’t need/deserve any kind of semi-viable longer ranged attack. They actually got the part you are complaining about right. What’s wrong is there should be more rewards for spvp that benefit you in pve and WvWvW to get more people doing spvp. In a perfect world you could level a character through spvp and also make money doing spvp imo.

FACT is that rating system works.

  • SOLO que leadderboards (Account based, solo players possible only)
    - problem with same time queing
  • GUILD que leadderboards (Guild name based, players with same guild TAG)
    - show accounts that participate
  • WAR que leadderboards (2-5 Friends, account based, similar to actual leaderboards without solo players)
    - not TAGed players will steamroll mixed setups, so GUILD ques have to be prestigious therefore players are motivated with prizes for guild only.
    - Such motivation is simple – let them feel special/out of the crowd

Next step is Division!
- the best team on the planet is just one to feel special
- the best team of the last possible leagues also feel special and what is more important that they have goal to reach.

I don’t think the word fact means what you think it means….. For me personally to take something as a fact it has to be 100% provable to me by available information. A-net should explain there rating/mmr system in detail to the player base and how you are rated in a particular match via scenarios. Like how you would score solo queue versus a premade and vice versa. I reserve blind faith for religion and my favorite sports teams thats about it.

Actually join solo is horrible. You cant be semi competetive with leavers/afkers. It is absolutely rank suicide, plus you will be pitted in an uneven match against premades. Anet has successfully split the community again into hotjoins and 5 person teams. There is no path you can take to get better as a solo player. And yes it is absolute rank suicide.

I’ve been playing solo q’s non stop for the past idk 5 days, i’ve yet to have a single leaver/afk. So i’m gonna say your being slightly dramatic.

That’s very lucky bro, but not a shared experience. I have had dozens of afkers and leavers solo queuing, not to mention times when everyone but me in my team was single digit rank and we go up against a team of full 40’s and 50’s at which point no matter how hard I work, i can’t compensate for new players basically running around clueless. And it doesn’t break even o the chance because you’ll periodically face pre-mades with a full pug, and voice alone and a more functional comp give them an instant advantage. Note that all of those things dont’ actually have anything to do with your individual skill level. Yes, it’s “possible” to get up on the leader-board through a combination of luck/solo queuing a LOT, but the overwhelming majority of players up on the board don’t solo queue much if at all. It’s a kittenty system. It should be split and with different rankings.

Don’t argue with the guy I check the score board after every match and even before this leadboard was released I would say 1 person left on the losing side in at least 20% of the matches. At least most were respectful and didn’t drop until the very end. Now thats people dropping after playing for a bit not even 4v5 matches lol where someone never participated you probably could get up to about 30%-40% of matches affected. Now that leaderboards are out and you can game the system once the word gets out about this, and thats the thing most people didn’t know you could drop and it won’t count, you will see even more people doing it. It’s called human nature.

Wow the stench of elitism stinks in the morning. If nobody solo queued you wouldnt have any matches popping or the ones you did would be the same few groups that were running full premades at any one time. Thats why this game will never get healthy the people that think they are elite are totally delusional about the number of people doing spvp and actually want to make it harder or disuade people from doing it unless they do x,y,z.

There will never be enough players for soloq/team queue imo. But even if the do get enough people it will take some time so what they need first is some kind of algorithm or system that adjusts your rating some by giving your more credit for beating groups solo queing and less credit for farming pugs while in a premade. Most of the top ranked people run in premades 24/7 and farm mostly solo queue people not bad mouthing it just stating the truth.

Hi,
I’m glad that the leaderboards are there now, although i find its a pity that there are only 100 players listed at the moment. Still: thank you dear devs, this has been really important!
It would also be nice to be able to see the list as a whole, so that one could find a player quickly via CTRL+F instead of clicking through pages of 25 accounts (especially when more of the ladder is revealed)

But here is my question:
do the devs plan on resetting the ladder every now and then? If not, are inactive accounts going to be filtered from it, similar to how it was done in GW1?

The entire ladder is compromised until they fix the bug with dropping out of matches not counting at all. Why even pay attention until they fix that?

Guys, give them some time to stabilize and to draw back a few players. Enough people will complain and Anet will eventually show the rating numbers. In the future we’ll probably get solo/team segregated boards too, but until then, just form a team or pug competitively! -if all you do is casual solo queue, don’t expect to be one of the top players in North America (in any game). Tough love guys.

Those rankings are totally comprimised by people dropping out of matches. Im not even saying its a lot but it doesn’t need to be a ton when you only show 100 players. People aren’t coming back to this game and there are like 10 competitve groups. Fix the cheating and lets show the rating. Thats all people are asking for.

A-Net is the one to blame for people leaving matches. Basically to show up on there leaderboards you have to run in premades most of the time or game the system by dropping out of some losses. If A-Net had better match making and a more nuanced MMR that accounted for solo queing and pub stomping and a automatic loss for dropping this wouldn’t be happening. To be honest as a sign of protest I think more people should drop out of losses to protest this dumb kitten system but to be respectful to other players wait to the very end if you do.

I knew it. I looked at those rankings and knowing how few dedicated groups are left in NA my eyes popped out seeing so many people with extremly high winning percentages. Its sad really. The game should remember you when you drop out and give you the lowest score possible. How hard can it be to do that?

I think this is a tremendous effort and I’m really glad to see they were able to achieve rankings that accounted for things like solo que’ers matches and ratings versus premade pug stomp matches and ratings. Overall great job!

This sarcastic post pretty much says it all. Also, can we get a clarification on whether dropping from a match effects your w-l because some of these percentages seem bogus to me or at least the high number of people winning over 80% of the time seems bogus.

I don’t think there are enough people doing tpvp for those kinds of queues to work all that well at the moment. The queue times would increase dramatically for 3 man groups and up and people would be fighting the same groups over and over again. Maybe not in Europe but in NA for sure. I totally disagree that e-sports is going to drive this game’s pvp forward. This game has already assured itself that it will never be true e-sport. The goal should be adding features that everyone both casual and hardcore want and trying to increase the player base to something approaching what it was at release. This game has already blew its chance to be the next big pvp thing. You only get one chance and they blew it already. It’s a tough pill to swallow but the 100% truth.

A-Net is first and foremost a company that wants to make a profit and if you do not think they have fairly sophisticated tools that give them a very good idea of what elements of the game are the most popular and make them the most money and then allocate there resources based on that then I think you are sadly mistaken/partly delusional or not living in what most adult people who have held a full time job lived on there own for at least 5-10 years call the “real world”.

I just wanted to thank you for the defensive symbol nuke build with staff and mace/focus. It really is a great all around team fighting build. The steady aoe damage and healing it puts out is pretty unique and the 12 might stacks from empower are just clutch. I have been using purging flames instead of sanctuary because I have to admit im just bad at using sanctuary lol. I seem to waste it at the wrong times or don’t put it quite exactly where I want it and then Im looking at the long recharge wistfully.

Not to be rude Chiggs but you should be taking anybody that isn’t a total newb that shows some skill. Most people hit there skill caps on a class probably around rank 20 or 90%+ of it. Also, I have seen you around in plenty of tournaments and I don’t remember losing more then half the time at most and I solo queue 75% or more. You’ll be much more successful casting a wider net and putting down more realistics guidelines. Most of the high rank people left this game.

I read in a post or two from a dev saying that the leaderboard is going on right now as I’m typing this and the data is always been calculated into it. It also said that it will be available very soon, though that’s irrelevant to my question.

How exactly is this leaderboard being calculated? By individual tournament score? Tournament wins? Win + score? ELO system? What is it? Curious to know.

That’s the beauty of this whole thing. Nobody knows yet people are waiting with baited breath for something that could be and probably will be something totally meaningless. We don’t even really know what there MMR system is they just say its based on x system. GW2 provides the least game data of just about any MMORPG ive ever played from there awful combat logs(worse then DAOCs combat logs in 2001 and gotta love having to look at a green number floating over my head to get how much I healed) to the kittenty end of match scoreboard.

Its pure luck that you faced some premades there are very few teams playing right now in NA. If anything there is more newbs then ever playing because of laurels . I win all the time solo queue I rarely see a full group that isn’t like 5 people under rank 20 grouping up to get there free laurel. What groups?

Guardians are better then Warriors generally in more facets of the game especially pvp. That doesn’t mean you can’t find some niches were a Warrior can outperform a Guardian but Guardians are a more versatile/stronger class. He is exaggerating but really now the Guardian is a great class. Don’t cry poor we all play one of the strongest classes in the game no reason not to admit it.

It’s fairly obvious to me that A-net saw how popular WvWvW and PVE were and diverted planned resources away from spvp. It’s pretty much the only explanation that works they are supporting what they think will be the most profitable areas of the game long more. Things change and unfortunately for us who like spvp we got the short end of the stick.

There just aren’t enough players for the matchmaking to work well. Remember the queue is not hard it only waits a little bit before throwing you in with the best it can come up with. Now the question is should the queue be hard? My personal opinion at this point with the pvp population being so small is no. I don’t want to wait forever for matches. I would rather have some bad matches then sit around twiddling my thumbs. The fix for this is to actually grow that pvp player base or make changes that will bring some people back. Basically the pvp population is too low for matchmaking to work unless people are willing to sit around for extended periods of time.

Not a fan of the play-style high damage pets encourages which is basically for the pet class to run around not doing anything while something half computer controlled (the pet) kills there opponent. Probably not op in terms of group fights but its awful to face in 1v1 and feels cheap.(not necessarily saying it is just how it feels to the average player on the receiving end especially a melee).

No. The way A-net works what you propose would leave bad game mechanics in forever at the pace A-net works. Lets get rid of problematic game mechanics pronto and then deal with aftermath. There is no perfect way to way to balance things.

I’d still like a detailed explanation of what will be ranked exactly and how do you come up with the ranking when it comes to pvp. I would like to know things like whether anything but a win in pvp can increase your rank positively at all. Imo, it should not. This so called MMR system has never been close to explained.

Too much mobility and healing on a elementalist it really is that simple. Mesmers are bad because there mechanic is bad. Pet spam is bad. It’s too hard to explain in words really it just feels like a class that can beat you by spamming pets and all the Mesmer has to do it is maintain distance from you which is easily done with all the stealth/mobility the class has.

Burst nerf is good. If I wanted to die in a couple of seconds if somebody got lucky with a combo I would be playing a trash pvp game like Age of Conan. It is unfortunate how Elementalist continue to skate by however. AoE and Bunkering still op as well.

Well, its unfortunate they made such a major change without good compensation elsewhere at the same time but in general the type of dps that could be put out in a short time span is not a good game mechanic. That’s the best way to balance a game is too slowly remove/modify bad game mechanics. It doesn’t matter whether the class as a whole is op or underpowered stuff that is not optimal for balanced pvp combat that is fun needs to be removed/modified and if needed the class affected boosted elsewhwere. That’s how balance works. You just don’t say ability X is justified because over-all a class is weak or average. Believe it or not its no fun to get locked down and killed in a couple seconds.

Rank points are an awful mechanic. I have been paying close attention to mine lately and its very possible to do well with rank points in a loss even a fairly bad loss by gaming the awful scoring system A-Net dreamed up. People need to be incentivized to win. Sometimes I wonder what kind of competitive pvp mmorpgs J Sharp has ever played and how old he is. PVP and MMORPGs have been around for about 15 years. Its pretty much like they decided they new better then 15 years of examples and thought they could do better.

Thieves are going to have to learn to choose the right time to attack now. If you can’t deal with that play another class. I’ve never seen a game where stealth works like it does in this one. It was only a matter of time before it got nerfed. Regardless of whether thieves are op or not the ability to conintue to blink in and out of sight in combat is op. Its not fun at all for people on the business end of it probably more so then any other mechanic. Shatter/Pet spam by mesemers is probably a close second. So when you have something the vast majority of the player base hates besides the people benefitting from it you don’t have to be a rocket science to understand it was going to get changed.
