Blaming having 2 thieves as "The Reason"

I have no clue whether or not it was the case in this instance but having 2 thieves on your side in a pug match certainly can be a main reason you lose if the skill level on both sides is fairly even and one side has a much more balanced comp. How can it not be a factor in those instances? Thieves are mediocre and do not stack well. Unpleasant truths shouldn’t be swept under the rug. 2 Warriors can doom you too again if they skill levels of both sides are close and one side is more balanced with stronger classes. 2 Necros to a lesser extent as well. For this not be the case every class would have to be perfectly balanced. It does matter what classes people play and what classes you have versus what classes they have. Sure you can overcome it if you are better but sometimes things are close skill wise and thats when it comes in to play very significantly.

Both areas of excellence should rewarded. Individual skill should always be recognized and rewarded. Group excellence is not the same and individual skill and vice versa. Many very good groups have carried average to below average players. Anyone that has played competitve pvp games and switched between groups in games and go to know people understands that people get carried all the time for whatever reason chemisty, rl friendship whatever. Go ask Leborn James and Dwayne Wade how important Shane Battier, Mario Chalmers, and Udonis Haslem is if you could force them to drink truth serum they would tell you they could win win almost any 3 average players around. There are individually great players.

  1. 2 – No, just no. They should however separate solo q vs team q, which they’ve already addressed they are working on.
  1. 3 – That is untrue. Myself, amongst many others, solo q and have climbed into the top 1000 easily from this method.

Being out of the scene for 2 months does not make you an informative expert. In fact, although there is still much to fix, what they’ve implemented in the past 2 months have been a significant benefit to class balanace, development of the current meta, and quality of life improvements.

If you only soloqueue, and only means only if you solo all the time even if you group 20% of the time that doesnt count as soloqueing, and are ranked in the top 1000 its got to be toward the very end or you have played a relatively small ammount of matches and have been very lucky. Play a minimum of 10 matches day solo like I do and get back to me on how great this system is and how easy it is to be in the top 1000 soloqueuing. Your characters name would be appreciated too in case I ever run into awesomeness in a match I want to be fully appreciative of it.

I dont like the way the mesmer class plays period. I’m not even saying this should be nerfed, because it can be countered, but I just think the pet spam and stealth combination is not fun for your average player to fight period. And games should be about fun.

The whole roster system in tournaments needs to be changed for this to be implemented. Because five people will not always want to just continue doing tournaments even if your winning,. There is no way to get fill in now in the middle of a match when its 5v4. In other games another player would be pulled from the queue to fill that spot. Not good ol’ gw2 you are wedded to the roster at the start.

GW2 has been successful by any MMORPG standard. Don’t try to extrapolate our frustrations with spvp to how successful pve and WvWvW have been. WvWvW is wildly popular. Resources go to what is popular. As for expansion duh that has always been the A-Net model the yearly expansion. I always expected a yearly expansion. This is not exactly stunning news.

Not really. Most people that do not buy gems will not be coerced by A-net into buying them with real world $$$. They just are kitten those people off because its not fair that you can mindlessly farm gold in pve and use them to buy gems but can’t earn them with time spent doing spvp activities.

Even if its a ludicrously small ammount for time invested you should be able to get gems or gold to buy gems from pvp. I don’t understand what A-net does no understand about parallel progression. Spvp gets rotten rewards compared to the other facets of the game. I still think you should be able to level through spvp as well. How hard would it be to give an exp value to player kills and match wins. These things would increase the ammount of spvp players as well.

Buffs, in general, need to have shorter durations. You should not be able to get any buff to last more then about 15-20 seconds imo and that shuld be with buff duration stacking.

You have no clue who they beat to get ranked that high. They didn’t necessarily have to beat anybody really good. Just beating some people with decent rating will get you ranked highly if you start from scratch and win at a very high percentage over a short period of time. Regardless this system needs work. It needs at the very least some kind of ratings decay or minimum games to be ranked. The way to get this game improved, believe it or not, is not to get the devs every benefit of the doubt but to harp and nitpick. You could say that reflects a sad state of the world we live in but it doesn’t make it less true. I never accept anything they say at face value especially since I can honestly say they have been less specific with the playerbase about there game systems than any other MMORPG I’ve played. Trion and Mythic, the games I have the most experience with are DAOC, Warhammer, and Rift, were worlds more forthcoming. Both of those companies would have told there players how exactly the ELO worked possibly down to mathematcial formulas with hypothectical examples.

at the moment the combat log does not show defensive skills, heals, dodges etc.

I feel like I get hit during dodges, blocks etc very often by stuff that shouldn´t do that.
With an improvement of combat log I could actually see how kittenty the servers are and blame the game for losing

I’m sure somebody will say what we have now is just fine and dandy but in reality its the most minor league combat log I’ve ever seen and I go back to EQ 1 and Ultima Online. They can and should do better.

If the ‘tournament’ was team-based, or rather, team-intended, it would NOT allow for solo entries.

Restricting tournaments to groups only would just about kill this game. Instead of it forcing people to group what would happen if the vast majority of people would just stop doing TPVP. I personally would uninstall the game immediately.

Dedicated solo queue and put rank 1-19 players in there own bracket and problems 99% solved. We are waiting A-Net.

Rank =/ MMR. They could have won 1-2 matches, been sky rocketed because of this, finally hit a match that will in turn knock them down in normalization. ArenaNet should just show a person’s MMR at the end (just like rank) so we stop seeing these QQ posts of uneducated players.

I know some r50+ players who are not even top 1000. So they play with lowbies. Lowbies may think “why am I playing vs a rank 50? This MMR doesn’t work”. Well, it does.

Stop whining already. If you fight someone, he has similar rating unless you have been in queue for 10 minutes or you play during nights & mornings. Im talking about EU mostly. If you don’t believe me, search in the ladders the guys you fight before every match.

And if you lose to someone with way higher MMR, dont worry. You will not lose much rating.

So you are telling me there is no way there MMR could be tweaked to be better at all and you know this how? There are tons of mathmatical formulas and many of them were tweaks many times over the years. You are giving nothing but ancedotal evidence. You can’t really tell me that everyone you fight is right by you in the ranking if you were to check at that moment that is a 100% complete lie. There aren’t enough players for it to be that way at all times of day. Just because you probably run in premades all the time and do well don’t get on your high horse and lecture solo queue people with a bunch of nonsense. It doesn’t necessarily have to be that the MMR is broken it tries to do what it is there for but there is not a unlimited ammout of players. So even if its not the MMR they need to do things like a dedicated solo queue and maybe bracketing out 1-20 rank people in there own group. Seriously blind fanboi devotion to A-net its not something to be proud of it makes you look like a fool.

No. I think sPvP and tPvP are a distillation of the worst in gw2 players. It’ too bad this portion of the playerbase gets any kind of consideration from the developers.

Never, have I seen a group of more ethically corrupt video game players. This makes Xbox Call of Duty players look like boy scouts.

You are stretching it comparing a couple of line rants in a video game to somebody being ethically corrupt. You must live in a bubble or never played any kind of competitve sports. I could go down to a local b-ball court today and have someone probably rage on me at some point if I played enough games. I might say something myse;f to someone if they missed a bunny in a close game or did something stupid to cost us a game. Me and my friends would always be at each other throats half the time. It happens sometimes and it can really suck but come on man ethically corrupt people get mad sometimes especially in a competitve enivornment. I guess every baseball player that ever charged a mound over some percieved slight was ethically corrupt. I mean seriously people grow some thicker skin. You’ll Iive I pwomise you lol. I think today a lot of people under 30 have been brought up in a total protective dome that didn’t exist for the rest of us. The reason people want Mesmers nerfed is because the whole clone mechanic in a lot of people’s eyes is just a bogus frustrating mechanic regardless of whether or not Mesmers are op in the context of a 5v5 match. TheMightAltroll, a Ranger is doing great solo, especially in 1v1, but what does it really bring to a team fight? Of course the Pet it doing a lot of damage, but he’s also easy to flank and trick, and in a team fight, the ranger or it’s pet is not what I’m targeting first.

Hope you understand what I mean.

1 V 1 is a large part of a lot of tpvp. Its kind of a red herring to say that a class is strong 1v1 yet somehow has nothing to bring to a team fight. Considering pvp is only 5v5 and a “team fight”s is usually at most 3v3 and many fights are 2v2 you can reason out that if you are very strong 1v1 you are probably pretty strong in those other fights. It is valuable to be hard to kill while having pet do very good damage for you in any type of fight regardless of numbers.

Actually the interface does update for the ones that increase power and healing power but only when you are in the mists. You will see a green number number next to your regular power and healing power statistics showing the updated ammounts. They really should fix it to show that everywhere.

And how many really high damage skills do mesmers have that don’t require a target? How many utility skills offer us invulnerability? How many movement skills do we have inour wweapons? How about for escaping a fight? Even necros can out run us or catch us… What about evades on our weapons as far as weapon movement goes we have 2 that’s it

My favorite part of these threads is the x,y,z can beat this class “if played well.” I have no clue what the best 1 v 1 class is. I have a sneaky suspicion its either BM ranger or Phantasm Mesmer but there almost certainly is a class/build that at equal skill levels will beat all other classes the majority of the time. It’s just the likeliest out come. To believe they somehow balanced 3-4 classes to be equally good 1v1 is ludicrous. Nobody cares if some boob Phantasm Mesmer can be beaten by a skillful engineer. There are classes that dominate 1v1 why do we have to qualify everything. Classes with strong pets will always be extremely powerful in a 1v1 setting its basically a pvp MMORPG truism.

There are some very good players, people that probably blame themselves first 99 9 times out of 1000 when they lose before making balance excuses, giving valid input on some of the things wrong with rangers pets in this thread its ludicrous to dismiss them. Pet range is too much and the water rezzing is a joke and has been a joke. It was ignorable until they added a tournament map with water. The game is better when people can put aside there personal interests when something is clearly imbalanced for competitve play. You can’t mention changing any thing on any class without the self interested pouring out of the wood work in droves to make nonsense arguments in there own self interests.

There are many reasons why the unpleasentness level can get very high. For one thing lack of a solo queue. Another thing is mediocre class balance. Many matches are detemined by who has the most “good” classes and who has the most “bad” classes. Assuming fairly equal skill level you get stuck on a team where 3 of the 5 classes are warriors and thieves and its pretty much gg for you because you are losing to a more balanced slate of classes or annihlated if you face all good classes. Then you have the fact that you can often be a very experienced player and get stuck with very inexperienced players. It’s a real joy to be rank 40 and then at the end of a shellacking see that besides you the average rank of your team was 15 and the other sides average rank is about 35. I know there are exceptions to all of this so spare me the story of rank 15’s beating a premade of rank 35+ because I am speaking in generalties that have been proven by extended experience as as about a 66% solo player with many many tournament wins and losses.

I guess my point is your average pvp player is quite competitve and the outcome of a lot of matches solo queuing seems to have almost nothing to do with how skillful you are as a individual and that you are basically subjected to a bunch of random forces that decide whether you can win or not. It makes people angry. I know I know you can form your own group but sometimes its just difficult for people with full lives to jigger there schedules. I just think A-net could be doing more to promote a more fulfilling solo queue experience and if they did a lot of these situation would go poof.

They definitely need to think about bracketing by glory rank unless you are in a group. Rank does not mean skill but it does mean experience. A lot of stuff does not become second nature until you have repeated it over and over again. I know personally that I am just worlds more comfortable with the pace of tpvp combat and the quick decision making process needed at times at rank 40 then I was at rank five. They should look at keeping people rank 1-20 or so in there own bracket unless they are part of a group that queues. Not sure what that would do to queue times though unfortunately. But would only need 2 brackets. 1-20 and everyone else and if you in group you can play anyone. That would suffice imo without effect queue times too much.

I won’t say it’s the best but I think Healing Breeze gets a little bit of a bad rap. It has its drawbacks but it heals for a lot and if you can jigger yourself into position you can healp allies for a good bit. Also, outside of spvp with boon duration being easier to stack it can be a source of close to permanent retaliation. Retaliation will proc 5 times off it. So you can do the math if you take the trait that gives you 3 seconds of retal per heal skill use with a decent ammout of + boon you are looking at healin breeze gving you anywhere from 25-30 seconds of retal on a 40 second cool down if you can get 60-100% plus boon duration.

Its bs any way you slice it. You also have people that wont play a ranked game on there main account unless they have an A group online. Otherwise they play on a secondary account. You should have to be active to be ranked its only fair.

How about no there are other things to work on for the time being. The people that play eles are some of the loudest most privlieged acting people on these forums. Its like : I played the best class in the game for months and they finally take some decent nerfs, while still being pretty strong, and isntead of waiting for the dust to settle we need to have to have a bunch of fixes TODAY! There are so many broken builds and things across the board that need to be fixed for just about every class. Get in line nobody wants to hear all this whining.

50% retaliation

It varies against players, but I’m not sure how. I’ve noticed my retaliation hitting from the 190s to the 330s. My guess is that it now either scales to the incoming damage from an attack (which would mean uplevels and fast attackers would get hit for less per attack) or it’s mitigated by armor. I think it’s the former, but haven’t tested enough to be sure.

This sounds pretty logical. In the pvp state of the game interview the pvp devs did last week they mentioned wanting to change retaliation to react more to burst damage. It would have been nice if they explained it in the patch notes if this indeed is what they did.

You average player doesn’t want to watch matches. Those other games that are e-sports have gigantic player bases so even if only a relatively small percentage enjoys watching matches and casting thats thousands or tens of thousands of players. When this game has 100k people regulary playing tpvp in N/A then we can starting talking about real e-sports.

It depends what your bread and butter heals are. If you use dodge roll heals and empower a lot it gives a decent return. Regens never benefit all that much from healing power. I personally never run with more then about 1000 but then again I only do spvp and your stat budget is tight there compared to pve and WvWvW.

If only other multiplayer games had dedicated servers…we could look at those and see however many hundreds of them there are…the historical precedent would be useful…oh well. /sarcasm

How many of those other games have gamewide ladders that track ever player? How can custom arenas ever over take tournaments as the main game mode especially when you can customise things in a arena and play by all sorts of different rules. I think some people will pay for arenas but the fact of the matter is there will always be a sanctioned ruleset that A-net will use for ranked games that will have to happen outside of the customized arenas in tournaments. The point is not as ridiculous as you seem to think. I personally have zero plans to ever rent a customized arena. I’ll use other peoples that are made public or I will do tournaments.

Retaliation has been nerfed in SPVP for months. Thats why it wasn’t any different in SPVP it already got nerfed in that portion of the game. It’s been 66% in spvp for ages.

This is why I said put a delay on it. I understand the dual boxing problem. As far as the learning people builds thing is concern… easy fix.. disable viewing traits on tPVP spectate. Add a 30 second delay and you eliminate the cheating problem. This is really to easy.

To those trolls who say they have already decided not to do this.. Or they have already said whatever.. Some of us in the “Real World” don’t keep up with every last thread a dev might have said about this game.

It would be really nice to be able to spectate the competitive side of PVP.

Exactly. Really most of the time A-net gives there rationale for why something is the way it is, or A-net water carriers do it for them by proxy, it takes exactly 5 seconds to poke more holes into it then a pincushion.

This is probably just a correction to the nerf of pet toughness and vitality. They problably over-did it. If you noticed Guardian spirit weapons also got a boost in hitpoints again. So thats 2 boosts in hit points for them since they were nerfed. A-net is probably trying to find the sweet spot for ranger pets. I highly doubt they are more powerful then they were at the height of beast master specs.

The reason why it won’t be e-sports because a lot of people that play the pvp in this game don’t care if its ever an e-sport. I would just like balanced pvp, match-making that works, and a ladder that is meaningful for more then just pre-made people, plus more rewards/progression from pvping. I could care less if it ever becomes an e-sport. I also don’t really enjoy watching streams of other players for anything but possibly pointers. Once I get such pointers I won’t watch any other streams unless I try something else. Not that I’m against E-sports happening organically I just dont really care per se. None of my friends that spvp ever utter the word e-sports either.

The nerf is long over-due and a good one. The first RTL nerf was a joke and had me really questioning whether A-net had the fortitude to make tough balance changes. This nerf and the Mist Form nerf have restored a little bit of my confidence.

Finally some meaningful ele nerfs. Ride the Lightning had too low of a cd and being able to use heals during an invuln was cheesy. Learn how to get your heal skills off like everyone else without a ridiculous crutch.
