Its a great tournament map, 2ndary objective is strong, its similar to khylo so I like it.
If it wasn’t conquest and deathmatch, everyone would be in the cannon room and you’d have nobody to shoot at, nobody to force off points and such, its a perfect conquest map.
To each his own I think its a trash gimmick map with too little emphasis on fighting other players and too much emphasis on try to cc people into cheap deaths and using an op sercondary objective to two shot people. I’ts crap and I guarantee you it will be going bye bye from the tourney rotation just like Spirit Watch did.
Most other games release patch notes ahead of time and the community discusses it en masse and then there are scheduled mass test days where 100s if not 1000s of players test the changes and give feedback. Obviously having a handful of “top players” and devs testing everything is much better lol. So many of you people want to be told whats best for you by so called experts its pathectic.
The whole idea of taking just taking so called top player feedback is nonsense. The more feedback the better. They should be able to weed out poor feedback from good feedback. Somebody might be an average player but an excellent tester good at giving feedback. Conversely somebody can be good at playing the game but have no real clue about what is balanced or not or be very poor at expressing themselves. They should be making patch notes available to everybody ahead of time and opening test servers to everyone for special test days in order to get mass feedback. Thats how its been done by just about every other MMORPG. These guys think they have invented the wheel but instead what they have invented is an average pvp game missing a ton of important features with a bunch of imbalanced crap like over-powered aoe spam and CC chaining. Things that should have been weeded out long ago. It’s a joke.

I know Im thrilled to have a new map. Because a new map is more important then silly things like solo queue, leader board decay, real warrior fixes, more game modes, and increased pvp rewards.
You are facing bad players if you can kill more then 1 player at a time or last indefinitely against multiple people with a guardian. Guardian is a good class but imo except as a bunker in spvp there is nothing a guardian does that another class can’t do at least as good or better.
No Confusion is plenty powerful as it is now.
I can’t wait to try a troll spirit weapons spec with scepter and greatsword. It will smoke people 1v1.
I have no clue or not if these are the actual changes but why don’t people think that guardians won’t get a lot of buffs? Every class should be getting a lot of buffs with this patch this is suppossed to be an over-haul of bad/useless traits and guardians have as many of those as anyone. Sure guardians are strong and so are a bunch of other classes that doesn’t mean they don’t have a lot of bad/worthless traits.
Dude cut the hyperbole. You are flailing around in the dark. I do kind of agree about ranger pets though they hit too hard and uber defense spec rangers with pets that hit hard are not balanced for 1v1 at the very least.
The reason people respond before reading your full post is because we have all seen these types of arguments made 1,000 times before. The buff don’t nerf argument has existed since the beginning of MMORPGs.

You should be happy getting reported is the worst thing that could happen to you in-game. Go ahead and tell your co-worker or teammate to “go die in a fire” next time they make a mistake and you’ll see just how much worse real life consequences can be.
What if some big scary man on the street in the U.S. (no clue about more poilitically correct countires with extensive speech codes) told you off hand to go die in a fire and thats all he did. Do you really think there would be some kind of recourse for that besides maybe you deciding you were going to tell him off or engage in physical confrontation or to just ignore it? Do you think a police officer would get involved? Or even playing a pick up game of basketball and you miss every shot and some guy says hey man you suck. I’m not condoning that kind of behavior but it is true that it is not always a pleasant world. If you haven’t experienced it good for you I’m glad. I could tell you tons of stories about rl stuff happening. The work place is a very limited example. Most times in rl if somebody says something to you offensive outside of anything but work the best thing to do 9 times out of 10 is to just ignore them because there is very little you can do about it. I think it applies just as much in game. Just ignore and move on.

There is an ignore feature in the game for a reason. I am not saying there is no case where you should report somebody for verbal abuse but really you are better off just immediately ignoring jerks and not getting bent out of shape.
No because showing rank in tournaments has already helped us show A-Net that there matchmaking needs a lot of work. If it just showed rating in A-Nets little rating universe its possible for some rank 1 newb to have the rating as someone with hundreds of tournaments wins and a greater then 50% w-l percentage. Is it really hard to just ignore people that say mean things. In a perfect world it would show rank and pvp rating.

If you are in a 1v1 tournament that is a bug or 4 people quit or you are not talking about tournaments but a hotjoin game with only 2 people on the server. A tournament should not fire until a full roster is queued and the matchmaking happens. If its less then 5v5 at any point after thakittens because people quit. Otherwise they have some bugs to fix. To me a lot of the problem with matchmaking is due to a finite population to draw teams froms and the game not waiting long at all to match you.

I get it now, all this time I misunderstood you, I thought you wanted most weapons and classes viable, but it has become clear to me that all you care for is representation of classes and to push people away from PvP. Well consider it done, im not going to keep supporting a company that all that brings month after month is disappointment when its quite clear what needs to be done about class balance. I dont know where you have been spending the money I have spent on this game but definitely class balance isnt.
Please clean the game up before adding new content every month! Hire at least 1 person per class for team balance! This is the only thing holding this game back from being great. More than 9 months since release, by now you would expect it.
Enough with staff elementalist. To me that class should be at the bottom of any boosts because they were allowed to run wild for so long and I don’t care if it wasn’t staff that was ever op.
Plenty of people queue with friends in less then a group. Don’t tell me I can’t play that way if I want and that I should just randomly invite people to fill out a group. I’m not going to worry about this until I see how everything works in the end. There are many bad full groups though so I’m not too worried. Once the low level potted plants get weeded out with the matchmaking tweaks there will be plenty of groups a partial team of good players can beat if they get ok random fill ins. Remember the other people you get matched with will also be a partial group. It can’t be much worse then how it is now imo.

I like voicechat but its a double edged sword in that I don’t want the ability for some idiot I don’t know to say who knows what without me being able to do anything about it. What XGhoul said is more perferable then true chat provided in game for parties. I really don’t want to hear some 10 year old kid I am only going to be grouped with for one match tell me he likes kittens.

- improved right-click targetting;
- animations with lesser detail (I believe it’s coming soon?);
- trait changes to all traitlines in the game, from 1 to as much as five changes per line;
— improving, reworking or merging underused/ bad traits;
- rating decay in the leaderboard;
- improved matchmaking;
- new pvp map? (Skyhammer)
Thats a lot better if they can do it all within the next month or two.
- ranger pet deals less damage
- warrior gets condition more removal
- warrior gets small buffs
- weakness will work for all attacks
- necro DS rework

None of these counters addresses the fact that it is bad game design to have powerful ranged attacks that hit multiple people. Based on your logic it would be ok to have a class that had a 1 shot ability because you could always focus him down or avoid it potentially.
No one is using HGH in high level pvp. It offers 0 utility, just boons and grenades. Elixir S nerf is another big reason I believe.
Just my 2 cents.
Balancing around so called “high level” pvp imo is why this game is struggling. Your average player is not running around in highly optimized groups nor do they play as much as the people that do. It is harder then you make it out to be to dodge grenades on a small point. Its stupid game design to have something that can hit multiple people hard and has good range. In just about every other game I have played AoE either has tiny range (generally point blank) if its powerful or gets progressively weaker the greater the range increases until it basically tickles people if it has the range of normal projectiles. You can defend it all you want with l2play arguments but its generally considered bad game design because every game I have played that started out with it the way GW2 has it currently they have changed it.
What is the big deal here. It only targets if you click it fast or do not move the cursor at all. Holding RMB down and moving the cursor slightly will remove the cursor from the screen and then if you release it, still supposedly on top of the enemy it wont target that enemy.
So how can you move the camera if you do not move the cursor? or how do you move it in a time period of few milliseconds?

So you are telling me that during all the hours of your spvp play you have used the right mouse to turn and you have never ever accidently targeted another player or pet? Not one single time? I guarantee it has happened to you at least once and one time is too many. Its not necessary and its second rate. I guess another angle to come at this from is what would it hurt to give us the ability to disable targeting with right mouse button if we wanted to? And the answer is it would hurt nothing to give us that option. I don’t undestand the knee jerk defense mechanism some people have for A-net this is minor league any way you slice it imo.
No i havent have it happen atleast i havent seen it happen maybe it has happened. I play with Rmb held down almost 24/7 the only reason to me is to release it to target someone.
However the option to make the right mouse button not have any effect on targeting whatsoever is a good idea.
Maybe an option to make it target only when double clicked?
Same for left click, so i could target someone whilst moving my camera, by double clicking the left mouse button rather than just clicking it once.Or to go even deeper have left mouse button target when clicked once but if right mouse button would be held down it would take two clicks, this would allow me to once again move the camera whilst targetting. These things would have to be all options so it wouldnt affect people who dont want it to affect them.
Look I didn’t mean to come off rude I was just trying to point out that if there is a feature many people want with no drawbacks they should implement it. It seems like a no brainer to me. Its not even close to gamebreaking to me but It does happen that it occassionally causes me to mis-target. Maybe I’m just not good enough. But every time this subject comes up there are plenty of people that don’t like how it is currently.

Exactly most classes are in this boat or maybe a little better off. They need to do a comprehensive review of all traits and weapons for every class at some point to try to allow for more competitive builds for everyone.
I wouldn’t say it ruined it but really it is a problem. They have admitted it is a problem. AOE just can not be powerful without having severe limitations. Its basically a MMORPG pvp design truism. AOE and stealth are two things that every MMORPG dev gets wrong every single time. It’s like they never learn from the mistakes of the past.

Considering moa has a super long CD and that it has a relatively short duration, I think it is working as intended.

Another map with a treb how original. Unrated pvp = hotjoin or custom arena most likely. Seriously there better be a lot more coming then this in the next few months.
Sword is fine as a weapon. Its the best 1h main hand for a single target dps build because of the teleport and the rapid attacks will proc burning off of justice a lot. The autoattack can also hit 3 people if they are lined up right. It’s a niche weapon. All weapons are not meant to be equally effective in all situations.
What a BS anecdotal post. If you feel “dirty” playing a guardian in spvp then you should feel dirty playing a ranger, elementalist, mesmer, or engineer all classes at least as strong in the own ways as a guardian in spvp. Don’t get me wrong Guardians are a very strong class in tpvp as are all the others I mentioned. Pretty assinine imo. Why do you play a Warrior then I guess guess getting your butt whopped will make you feel better. Comparing to a necro again is BS another class most people agree needs some help in tpvp. But really as long as you spec correctly ranger, mesmer ele, and engineer all good as well in tpvp.

I recently got back after a 1 month break. Game feels dull and boring the AE in this game makes it feel it so weak pointless. There no chain cc or peels its all like bomb this dude when they go to res bomb AE the whole game has become this one big AE Skilless mess with npcs running all over there place theres 60000 thousand rangers running around with pet builds everyone uses rock dog runes and mesmer just blowing kitten up around them its like your constanrly taking splash damage thats why warriors suck its not because of the class needs a buff the whole game needs one big nerf eliminate this AE playstyle its kittened WELLs and traps and engys nades like seriously ? ontop of everything its a node capture game. This game used to feel great now its kittened. We need a direct dmg game. with single conditions we need more cc
The devs mentioned AoE as a problem months ago and have done zero to fix it. Don’t forget engineer aoe to me thats the most annoying aoe in the game right now. Imo if aoe is powerful it should have a tiny range/radius otherwise it should be very weak. Rock Dog shouldnt exist in pvp imo although not sure what it has to do with aoe.

This is why you should be able to block your traits and equipment from other people if you want to. Not because people will steal your build but because there is a chance some so-called pro somewhere will see your build and tell you its wrong. Any time you have some form of inspection it always leads to crap like this.

Did you even read most of this thread? The guy admitted there are some glitches in the system. I dont need ranks to know approximate levels anyway titles and skins will show me the vast majority of the time.
These are perfect examples of a flaw in our matchmaking. We are aware of this issue have plans to address it. Thanks for the screenshots!

There are about 100 mouthpieces on this board that chant Elo Elo Elo like its magic chant when people complain about this topic. To be serious I do give you credit for admitting that there are any flaws in your matchmaking becuase if you didn’t post here this thread would have been infiltrated by the stop whining match making is purrrfect crowd.
Just get 100-200 points each tournament match + the 100 reward average from the chest you will have 300. But not possible since you have to play for win there which means you are not getting 100-200 every time.
And then the reward from chest is not counting to the titel and account medal(other bug somewhere mentioned and not fixed yet). I’m 25 and still deer at account medal.
So hotjoin is better if you care about rewards.
But personally I don’t care about rewards because I’m one of the few players that play for fun mainly. In PvE rewards are fun but in PvP the competition itself is fun and winning. That’s why WvW is boring and needs rewards… cause there is no “winning”. You just win at the end of the week when you are not even online and played only a small amount of the whole “match”.
PvP you play the whole match since it’s only max 15 minutes and a win itself feels nice. Needs no other rewards.
Of course there are people that need rewards… like teh 14 yo children that need such stuff to say to their friends "look i have the “uber mega killer pwner title”. Ha ha but I don’t belong to that mentally kitten 14 yo without brain. I play for fun…
but problem: It is not that much fun… hotjoin(and Custom Arenas since they are like hotjoin) is boring. This only leaves me tournaments. But there I don’t like 50 percent of the maps and always need to wait if a kittenty map is in rotation since they haven’t got this fixed yet to make at least random map or even better different queues for different maps so you could chose your map. Foefire at the moment… I love it to lose 90 percent of the matches on this crappy worst map ever made.
And taking out Spirit Watch for no reason… they could just have left it and people that did not like it could have waited a few days… like I have to wait a few days until Foefire is out and next map is playing.
Ah so the people who like rewards are 14 year old children. Thats why discussions like these are maddening the people with your point of you talk down to and patronize people who disagree with you and want more rewards. The whole idea of MMORPGs is based on rewards. Come on man no need to call people children who disagree with you lol. I am a grown man with a full time job and family. You are the one arguing like a 14 year old. I am all about winning btw I want the rewards tied to winning. I would be happy with more skins, more titles, maybe a small ammount of silver for winning a match and maybe eventually some special tournament events with gem rewards. Its not really a whole lot and I don’t know why some people seem to have a stick up there butts in opposition when its brought up.

Imo they need to work on both things balance and proper rewards for participating in tpvp and that includes titles. For exaple why is there only 1 title for class profession tournament wins. I’m using the same title from 200 tournament wins and I have well over 500 now. Little things like this matter. People want lots of little things to chase. How difficult can it be really. The easier things should be done first because duh there easy! How long can it possibly take to add/tweak titles.
I want all runes that give buffs to have the time limit of the buff capped at 10 seconds before boon duration. Can we please get the long duration 20 seconds + with boon duration removed from tpvp pretty please they are too powerful. Buffs should be something you look to use at most opportune time not someting you have up most of the time.
Dont let people force you into a role on your guardian. You can do good damage on a guardian without being too glassy and you can still bring some stuff to the table in group fights. Don’t be another fotm grenade lobber there are too many already. It will be nerfed. Either the extreme might stacking with long duration or the range of the grenades but something will. HGH specs are too good in the hands of a competent player.
More rewards plz. GW1 had tons of them. Every other game has tons of them. Its really not that hard. For every person that claims they just play for the fun of it there is at least 1 person that plays for the fun plus they want some kind of rewards to chase.

Yes. You’re missing the fact that no one gives a flying kitten about rewards in PvP.
Without rewards, why would anyone play? And how else would you determine what is the “end game”?
You may say that people play “just for fun”, but that’s not true. Take away any and all rewards including drops, armor etc from an MMO and see what happens.
People will play to improve, to test their skill or to have fun. This is not PvE, so rewards are not needed. What are the rewards for winning a Dota game? What are the rewards for winning a Counter Strike game? Right, there is none.
Players who materialize PvP in any game, are either playing the wrong game, or playing the game wrong.
Lots of people here agree that PvP in GW1 was far superior to what we have here. And we had plenty of rewards. Chests for consecutive wins that had the possibility to drop awesome stuff, Zaishen keys using which you could open the zaishen chest for even more cool gear, a whole bunch of accomplishments and bragging rights.
“Fun” is nice, sure. But rewards are better.
Rewards is for fun. Trying to be the best is a challenge. And instead of being indirect, why not just write a thorough post on what kinds of rewards you’d like to have instead of just aimlessly causing conflict. I am pretty sure everyone knows what PvP equates to.

There are many many people that want more rewards for pvp at least as many that just play to be the best of the best. Ok I have very limited time to play this game I know I will never be the best of the best. I don’t always have time to coordinate groups and I solo queue way too oftent to climb the ladder much. I would like more rewards for the success I do have. Any way you slice it imo the rewards for spvp and tpvp are sadly lacking.
Rewards for tpvp are not good enough for sure. Really in general the rewards for hotjoin suck too because the rank gear isn’t good looking and doesn’t get good looking until like level 40. Really the Orrian Armor I have that I got in paids is probably the best looking armor I’ll ever wear because the cultural armor is what like rank 70 lol.
Jon also stated that they are working on a way to reduce the particle effects in pvp to make it less “clusterkitten”
You mean like a particle effect density slider that is in every quality MMO except GW2?
9 months later and hard to believe they are so quick to fix these things! I bet this will be a pvp-only feature too, even though massive particle effects plague the entire game.
Lol, its so obvious GW2 was rushed to market even for a MMORPG because they all are released before they are close to really ready. I still enjoy it mostly but for such a new game it bizarre some of the things it doesn’t have. I’m still holding out hope for decent combat log one day among many other things that should have been available day one in a game that was launched in 2012.

This isn’t rasism, it’s creating even matches.
The issue isn’t skill verse rank, its very new players against not.
For the first dozen or so ranks players should be pitted against other new players instead of into rank 35+ groups.
Without having a sort of LoL style ‘here is your team, choose your role’, it doesn’t work… mismatching rank 1-40s in games. Whichever high ranks run better solo-hero builds instead of team based high level competitive ones (since if you rely on a rank 1~, you lose) has a massive advantage.That can easily be fixed by easing people into the game mode before throwing them to the MMR…
If that makes sense…IMO, the problem is that good tPvP players who learned to actually play the game, are playing a different game in a sense than your average hotjoin sPvP player. I’ve been complaining since BETA that there is no reward system in place to reward people for actually playing the game in the correct sense, so instead, hotjoin often becomes nothing more than people farming glory in group zergs, or solo mesmers/rangers housed up in a duelist build waiting to take on new players and smash them 1v1.
I think that might help.
It’d stop such zerg based glory farming in SPvP, which would translate over to them actually learning to play the game in it, which would ease them into TPvP.I’d still rather have a base rank based que thrown in first, it’d help the problem a lil more, just because ability to play the game is a larger factor, and so many rank 1->10s just aren’t good at making/playing specs.
Yes, a rank base queue would be good. I think there are enough people playing tpvp that you could cordone off the newbies to about rank 10-15 and without killing the queue times. It would help. Would it be a cure all of course not there is no cure all. The arguements against easing in the newbs do not stand up against any kind of scrutiny, they are all based on radom anecdotes involving bad high rr players, the only one with merit is possibly unacceptable queue time increases which we won’t know until its tried and then if that happenes you can just remove the queue. Even if they put in a solo queue soon they will still need to do something like this if population can support the stratification. It’s just common sense the complete novice to pvp needs to be eased in. I would have appreciated it in my early ranks and I did many hours of WvWvW and played many other pvp MMORPGs for 1,000’s of hours before I played 1 minute of a tournament. There IS a 5v5 conquest style tpvp learning curve.

You are thinking about rank in the wrong way, honestly. Rank is not an indication of skill at all, it is only an indication of how much glory someone has gained over time. Moreover, the skill of the player at any rank is not an indication of time spent playing the game, but the quality of the time spent playing the game and paying attention/improvement. The lower the quality of your play time, the more it’s going to show in a tournament setting.
You are sadly misguided if you think you can just roll in to tournaments at rank 1 and be used to the speed of combat, understand the intircacies of the various maps, the roles of different classes/builds and various other things as somebody that has a lot more hours invested. We are not talking about raw skill to play the game here. We are talking about things you only learn from experience. There is a tpvp learning curve that has absolutely zero to do with your twitch gaming skills. You are totally underselling the experience factor. I know it myself I was way better at “understanding” tpvp at rank 20 then 1. Its silly to think it could be otherwise. Sure there are terrible people with rank some people are just bad at games whether they are rank 1 or 40. They never learn or evolve as players or get noticeably better. Those people can beat beaten by a rank 5 with half a brain yes but that does not prove anything.

It’s the personal points – and I have watched them go up – several people can get capping points, I am just not sure how many – there is a cut-off just like there is with the bosses if I am not mistaken.
The point I think he is trying to make here is not that you will not get points for double or triple capping just that it is bad play. Because during the time it takes to cap a point the other 1 or 2 players could be helping elsewhere. One person caps the point the other people leave to help elsewhere.
Just because some groups runs necros sometimes and do well does not mean anything. I think its pretty clear that Necros are about the third worst class for tpvp. I would put them in front of Warriors and Thieves. That leaves them third out of eight of classes in general viability. Not awful but they could use some boosts.
There is no dedicated healing in this game but trust me there are builds that put out a lot of healing in small ammounts and it does help win fights. My guardian can constanly kick out 1k aoe dodge heals (probably 4 every 15 seconds or so taking into account weapon swap and vigor procs) and 2.3k aoe staff heals (every 16 seconds) and they do help a lot. Do the math and thats roughly 6k healing every 16 seconds for anyone I can get in range plus any regen I may have in the spec im running. Really it may be too much aoe healing for a game that is not suppossed to have much. Most heal skills are on 30-40 second timers and only heal the person for 6k in comparison. My build is not some exteme heal power spec either it is a pretty standard guardian build with my own tweaks of course.
