[Suggestion] Warrior's new weapon -> Staff?

I think Warrior will get Dagger as a weapon. Hard hitting attacks that sacrifice your own armor.

Maybe not, Revenant is actually getting an off-hand dagger. It’s very, very briefly seen in the POI stream.

No one forces you to craft it.

So then how am I supposed to get it if I don’t craft it?

Rely on RNG? The RNG that gave a guy a single piece of Ascended after they opened some 11 thousand champ bags?

You can actually get two ascended armor pieces completely of your choosing through collections. Ambrite weapons and Luminescent armor.

Conditions Out of Control

You forgot precision to be able to actually stack conditions properly.

And then the fact you can out damage a condi-spec with power pretty easily.

Vitality is the defense stat against conditions, and toughness is the defense stat against power damage. There are skills for mitigating condition damage (removal) and also skills for mitigating power damage.

I have to say you have no clue.

The good thing at GW1 was that PvE and PvP skills were seperated.
So using the same skill on PvE and PvP was simply and plain impossible.

False, only specific ones had PvE and PvP versions. Others stayed the same no matter which mode. May want to check your facts first before you say something so definitive.

The specializations are more than just a new weapon. It’s a new weapon, new heal, new utility set, new elite, new traits, and profession mechanic changes.

But it will still limit you in terms of what skills each weapon has. Having skills static for each weapon/profession is keeping people from creating genuinely unique builds.

They wanted new skills, new skills are already coming.

Compare the number of builds in GW( http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page ) to the number in GW2. You will see there are probably 100x the amount of builds per profession in GW as there are in GW2. The reason is the skills being static for each weapon in GW2 and not in GW. We had much more freedom to create builds in GW.

Did you forget the fact that so many of the skills were extremely similar to eachother, and a large number of them were never used? And it also made things pretty much impossible to balance?

I beg to differ. Skills were all different bud I was an avid pvper and had many builds all different. That is why I never got bored.

And I also beg to differ with you. I played a lot of PvP also, and completed everything on normal and hardmode in PvE. I even completed DoA and Underworld hard mode with only heroes. So yeah, I know my way around the skills.

It’s a bit different really. The “condition spec” is apparently mostly about condition management, moving them off allies and giving them to enemies. The legends change the right side of your utilities (heal, 3 utilities and elite). There’s also the fact Elementalists have attunements that are more condition heavy, but their stats stay the same. (Unless you’re traited for the small bonuses of course)

Have you heard of the expansion called Heart of Thorns?

I think he is referring to new weapon skills for each Profession and not just a new weapon for each profession. The best part of GW was coming up with unique builds. I had a R/P BM build that I ran for RA. Most people would ignore my pet until it 1-2 shot them thinking I was just some dumb noob.

The reason I could run a build like that was because GW had so many skills and you could combine then in an almost infinite amount of ways. This allowed you to be unique. With the way GW2 weapon skills are, if you are a warrior with a sword, you are just another warrior with a sword.

I’d be happy if A-net just gave us 5 new skills per 2-hander, 3 for main hand and 2 for off hands. This would give us 10 skills to choose from per weapon/combo.

The specializations are more than just a new weapon. It’s a new weapon, new heal, new utility set, new elite, new traits, and profession mechanic changes.

Masteries: Gating content.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Lazaar.9123

Lazaar.9123

Even the oldest of MMOs have realised arbitrary gating is a bad thing, and Anet’s planning to move forwards by reintroducing it? Oh boy.

Except there is quite a bit difference between gear gating and masteries. Because of mastery gating being more akin to what it used in single player rpgs, it’s not a random thing. You do a set task, and you are guaranteed to have access. As an example of a recent game, Dragon Age: Inquisition gates story missions behind Inquisition Power, so you must have done some stuff out in the open world to be able to proceed.

It’s just playing the game, so it wouldn’t be bannable. There was a mass banning surrounding foxfire awhile ago, but the cases where people were falsely banned was fixed. (There was quite a big number of people actually botting it) So, as long as you are not using a third party program, you have nothing to worry about.

It’s the problem with talking about things that have not entered development or are only in early stages, things are subject to change as things don’t always go as planned. It’s really why they don’t communicate things in early stages anymore.

Masteries: Gating content.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Lazaar.9123

Lazaar.9123

I really don’t see how it will cause anything, considering only part of the masteries will be combat based. It’s more likely people will just ask for specific masteries (if they apply). I actually kind of doubt they will apply to dungeons at all, as they are pretty much abandoned. They would only apply to fractals.

Edit: Also the only people that ask for minimum AP are ones that want to be carried by others.

We get devs answering questions in the forums. It’s not super likely, but I definitely want to get this question on their radar. It impacts how I play until the expansion arrives.

Not about the expansion. Besides, there’s already a thread specifically for the purpose of collecting questions from people.

I bought Howl last week for 390g, Howler is the last of the gen 1s that i like enough to bother making so im glad the price came down a bit. I think people are overestimating the ease at which they’ll be able to get precursors for masteries. I don’t think that ANET is just gonna give them to you I think your probably looking at alot of mats/gold, timegates, fetch quests(like mawdry), and maybe some RNG like the carapace coat. Now ill probably end up crafting any of the gen 2 i like but when people realize how much work is involved i think gen 1s wil raise back up a bit.

No one is actually claiming that it will be super duper easy. The new system is just there to give people an alternative to RNG or the TP. After all, you can get all the other materials for the legendary completely by yourself, without the aid of the TP.

some weapons should stay closer to their nature, that what im saying. or hoping.

Well actually, ArenaNet stated that eventually they wanted every profession to be able to use every weapon.

I agree with OP.
most of the staff skins already in game will translate very poorly to hand to melee combat. Many Staff heads are Very elaborate and Fragile looking and being objective would force us to admit that there is an effect in immersion, at least for some reasonable people.
LAND SPEARS would<ve been a much more reasonable choice but …yea.
the transition from martial weapon to magical ones is easier to accomplish than th other way around. antique spire isnt designed to hit melee the same way pistol isnt designed to be a melee one.

There’s also many greatswords that make no sense as a melee weapon, as well as daggers, and swords. How’s it really any different than hitting someone with the paddle known as Eternity/Twilight/Sunrise? Or with the paddle Bolt? Or the dagger incinerator that is pretty much just a small blowtorch?
