on your phantasms? I really hate it that mesmer phantasms get glitchy when wearing armors that have effects on them. -_- But this one takes the cake in being the worst imho.

IF you leave the helmet out. But it’s a set, and when worn makes it look like our characters are of a different race altogether like Dr. Manhattan. I could post pics of him here but I’d get an infraction even though he’s completely blue.

(from the movie Watchmen)

if you preview the armors you will see that the blue bits give off an aurora and also have moving cloud like space/dust across the surface- I imagine it would be even more noticeable in game.

it also completely obscures the facial features to the point where it is hard to tell the race between my humans and sylvari.

I cannot really imagine anyone thinking that the blue is skin- given all that.

But yes it makes you look sort of like a celestial race.

My first thought when I saw them was actually- whoo does that mean we have some interesting beings incoming?
My second thought was Margonite- not sure why

I actually like the armor.. I bought it for my female human mesmer (my only issue with it atm is that it ruins mesmer phantasms (see image below).. I do however see the blue parts as skin when worn as a set ala Dr. Manhattan.. I’m not saying it’s offensive or whatever though, it’s just my perception.

The armor glow totally ruins mesmer phantasms. -_- I wish I knew about this before buying it. I like the blue skin tbh, makes my character look like an avatar of dwayna.. but it totally diminishes individualization. Zodiac should be an entire race by itself.

That’s pretty awful looking, I was thinking about getting a light version of this for my human mesmer but I think I’ll skip it for now.

IKR.. it ruins the experience of playing with a mesmer character when your phantasms are totally whack.

My question is why Zodiac? The weapons have been out a while, I rarely see anyone with them so I’m confused why it wasn’t watchwork or toxic armor to go with the gloves/shoulders?

Maybe it’s an indication of what’s to come for Living Story chapter 2? :O I definitely hope so.. I’d like to think of my character wearing the armor as an avatar of the gods. Or maybe Celestial. Maybe they’re coming back.

Well, I for one, am very happy with the change…

Your character is human, they proportioned the original feathered set specifically to human, while i had both the t3 and flamekissed on some human characters of mine, the norns who I prefer for looks because i hate the way sylvari turned out, and humans all look 15 to me…the norns suffer horrible issues due to the fact that female norns basically wear their armor over a male norn’s mesh… so while this isnt bad looking on a human (still prefer original), they used a human female model in their gem store add for a very good reason.

Yea I haven’t seen the armor on the rest of the races prior to me taking my screenies.. I noticed they really don’t look as good particularly on norns.. :/

Posted by: Leo Paul.1659

Leo Paul.1659

I’ve just recently started playing tPvP again after a while (3k+ hours of gametime in mesmer alone but only level 31 in pvp), and although I know I can afford the unlocks if it’s sp or gold requirements, I still don’t think anything that affects stats/gameplay in GW2 pvp should be gated in anyway. It’s fine if it’s just cosmetics, but as many have mentioned, pvp has always been intended to provide equal footing for new and old players alike as far as gear and build go so WHY IN THE WORLD are you going against that idea now? If I wanted to grind [intended as a hyperbole, just preempting whatever the cost of unlocking will be], I’ll do it in PvE where it is pertinent.

And that’s why the OP is dissatisfied, his post implies that the choices offered are (either) poorly implemented and/or restrictive. That is something that warrants “kittening” imho especially when there is room for improvement.

I won’t argue with it being restrictive, and yes that is a reason to kitten. I do agree there. I’ve been among the many asking for and discussing the various means of rectifying the issue.

The issue with the OP’s unhappiness boils down to not desiring to grind (restrictive or otherwise). We have since determined that absolutely everything is grind, and therefore the choice to play entails the player’s willing acceptance of participation in grind. Thus, as it is a choice, they only gripe a person technically has is with themself for making the choice to grind. Essentially, we’re chasing ourselves in a circle, unless we add in factors such as enjoyment, at which point it still boils down to play style and choice, and I will reiterate that the ascended tier is still completely optional.

Not quite. It’s grinding old content all over again for the sake of an optional (i’d really rather say pointless) new gear after doing it for so long already. Had it really been introduced from the start, it wouldn’t feel so tedious.

Your argument relies heavily on a vague definition of a grind. Whether one enjoys it or not is irrelevant, it’s simply doing old tasks again (repetitively) for new gear, which at this point (after doing it for a while), is what the OP is tired of. Please note that we are talking about ascended, your attempt at faulty generalization is impertinent to the topic.

Then, by your argument, the simple repeating of events in order to level is grind. Anything past the initial completion of the game on your first character is grind. Removing enjoyment as a factor, the choice to play, and therefore participate willingly in grind, is then solely your own and you may quit at any point which exceeds your threshold. No one is forcing people to play, nor are people forced to get the new gear.

The OP’s complaint is that she has to grind to get materials, by your logic absolutely everything she does is grind… as such, since it’s her choice to play, she doesn’t have anything to kitten about. Absolutely everything she does is repeatative, as it is the nature of a MMO, and therefore grind.

Again, this is in relation to a new tier of equipment. Please do not digress.

Ah but I’m not, because it’s her choice. It’s all choice. No one can make the choice to do, or not do, except the person facing the choice. By making the choice, she then enters into the grind she’s kittening about willingly, and only she can determine to see it through or not. Therefore, she has nothing to kitten about.

And that’s why the OP is dissatisfied, his post implies that the choices offered are (either) poorly implemented and/or restrictive. That is something that warrants “kittening” imho especially when there is room for improvement.

A momentary caution. Grind is a vaguely defined term and usually is subjective to the person at hand. What one person finds “grindy as all heck” someone else might actually enjoy, or at least not be bothered by.

Yes, we are talking about the OP’s threshold of grind. But if we’re going to quibble that someone’s definition of grind is vague when it is . . . in itself, vague and subjective, we should acknowledge that detail.

Just go back to the OP’s POV on what grinding is. The fact that grinding can be enjoyable [for other people] isn’t the problem per se but the fact that the acquisition of a new tier is requiring him to repeat content that he has done several times already and serves no bigger purpose. Providing a different definition of grinding doesn’t help in this case.

Because I do not want to even think of farming for different tiers of cloth from mobs for ascended armors. Because I no longer want to repeat content I’ve done a thousand times before for an insignificant reward.

Point accepted. I still stand by my original point here – the tier in and of itself isn’t worth the hassle and it’s better to accept it’s not worth chasing and live without.

Also, really, hoping ANet DOES add other methods of acquiring armor.

I agree. I have edited my post when you quoted me to include that I think they had the right idea when they introduced Guild Missions as a means to acquire ascended. It’s doing something new in order to get something new in return.

I also agree w/ lanfear as far as employing more (old) options/curencies such as karma in order to get ascended so that we can go back to “playing how we want” and relieve us from feeling forced to do things we do not particularly enjoy.

Only by providing new ways of getting ascended will the OP’s issue be addressed. Anet had the right idea when they introduced Guild Missions i think.

and someone will say that they can gain ascended playing 1h a week without even looking at the screen while cooking,

here he comes xD

i have no mats, no gold, and no tolerance for any kind of crafting….
it’s my fault? i think it is.
in fact i accept my responsibility for not having had any legendary or rare dye or title.
i never argued about “voluntary” grinding.
i’m just a mediocre player, both in skills and in “aspect”.
if i can login only once in 2days for a pair of hours, i hoped i could play without any handicap (even that 12%) in any part of the game.
this is what i saw in the gw2, and what developers said about it.
simply now things are different. just admit it.

I see your point and I do agree that it’s a bit ridiculous to expect casuals (whom ArenaNet’s target audience is) to get ascended gear and stay competitive in the game. It’s a lot easier to get BiS in this game than in any other MMO though, given the number of paths available to get the mats required to craft them. In saying that however, it still doesn’t constitute a grind in my opinion, as there is little repetitive activity required in achieving said gear.

We all hope that there will be alternate methods to obtaining the gear soon though.

Little repetitive activity? Pray tell how do you obtain different tiers of cloth with out either:
A) Grinding the mobs at the correct levels.
B) Grinding gold so you can buy it off the TP.
C) Opening your wallet to skip the grinding for gold process.

D) Play an alt through those levels without doing champ trains. It nets you quite a lot of those mats and is very fun if you just relax and take it easy. I took my level 20 necro to WvW and got around 50 wool scraps in around 2 hours from salvaging the loot. Running through maps doing exploration also netted me a lot of mats. Think outside the box.

E) Event “farm” with some guildies, make a game of it
F) Help leveling guildies clear a map
G) Help a guildie through some dungeons

There are things we do, just simply to do them, that don’t necessarily constitute “farming” and still net you the mats or gold you so desire.

Your suggestions are nothing more than sugarcoated ways of saying the OP’s points A) and B )

Yes and no. Most people define grind as spending time doing something they don’t want to do and aren’t enjoying having to do it. If you’re out helping a friend or guildie by choice because you want to, it’s not the same thing because you should be enjoying yourself.

By your general thought line, simply leveling a character (your first or otherwise), enjoyable or otherwise, falls under points A and B. At which point you may as well not bother playing the game at all because absolutely everything you do is ‘grind’.

Your argument relies heavily on a vague definition of a grind. Whether one enjoys it or not is irrelevant, it’s simply doing old tasks again (repetitively) for new gear, which at this point (after doing it for a while), is what the OP is tired of. Because I do not want to even think of farming for different tiers of cloth from mobs for ascended armors. Because I no longer want to repeat content I’ve done a thousand times before for an insignificant reward.

This has become a Korean grinder. I’m now struggling to log in.

I don’t need to read it again. Every forum of every MMO is filled with complaints from people who play insane amounts of time and get bored of the game, but rather than recognizing that maybe they should take a break and try something else, claim that there’s something wrong with the game.

Sigh, people and their selective reading.

I’ve been playing the game since headstart without a break and I don’t understand the OP either.

Maybe the OPs opinions aren’t shared by everyone. Quite a few people in my guild were here at launch and have played continuously.

Your go to arguments are always Some Are/Some Are Not or Unwarranted Contrast. I dunno how anyone can even take you seriously anymore.

This is what you wrote:

“The fact that you’ve only been playing the game for 2 months makes it reasonable why you do not understand the OP. I suggest you read it again.”

The implication here is quite clear. You’re saying if this poster had played longer, he would understand the OP. But I’ve been playing longer and I don’t.

And you know, you’re not my target audience for posts. It makes not one lick of difference if you take me seriously or not. But if you’re going to post something as unfair as you did, I have every right to call you on it.

Reworded but still pretty much an unwarranted contrast. And it seems you don’t seem to get what the OP is saying either. The method by which ascended is acquired, its timing and intervals in being introduced, its (lack of) significance to the game in general, you seem to miss (or just selectively ignored) those points. But yea, you always were fond of using fallacies to defend Anet instead of properly addressing the validity of arguments. (deliberate ad hominem)

Just noticed that the OP changed the title of the thread. Perhaps now you’d understand his post a bit better? Ascended (or a new tier) begs for new content for it to be relevant/worthwhile, otherwise it just seems like a poor gimmick to make players stick a bit longer.

Saying that I’m using fallacies to defend Anet, is simply wrong. I use opinion where warranted to express my opinion positively and I do use fact to counter people who try to state opinion as fact. Personal attacks shouldn’t be tolerated, and I’m done talking to you. If you don’t have anything to say that’s not personal, don’t say it.

The OP is stating an opinion and that’s what it is. Not everyone agrees with that opinion as can be seen from this thread. I’ve expressed my opinion as I’m free to do so. If you can’t accept that, I’d suggest it’s not my issue.

My post never warranted YOUR opinion, yet you still provided one with warped quantificational logic to detract from the validity of mine. If you do not want me to respond to you personally, then don’t respond to my posts with fallacious attempts. I’ve already called you out on your cheap passive aggressive tactics to detract from what the topic really is instead of addressing the merits before and will continue do so as I see fit. BTW, I can see your herring. It’s red.

I see, but at least the moderators understand your point, unlike some people. The way to obtain ascended is tired (particularly weapons and armors), forcing you to grind old content all over instead of introducing innovative and fun ways to get them. This is particularly annoying for old players who’ve already done those tasks so many times. It also serves no real purpose at this point, adding NOTHING to the game aside from being a carrot on a stick and only relevant for agony resistance (and wvw to a lesser extent) which isn’t really anything new. The “new” fractals we got are merely rehashed LS stuff.

Ascended items should be more relevant to the game, as it does require quite a bit of effort to acquire. It really needs new content to make them worthwhile. Maybe insert a bit of lore about them and/or a full on quest as a means to get them instead. They could’ve extended the personal story, making ascended equips the rewards after finishing a chapter or something. LS could’ve been a good platform too.

At this point, I think there should be new content that is only accessible by having ascended items, something pertinent to the lore (NOT Scarlet) or to personal story development to keep us interested in them.

I find these threads laughable. I’ve been playing the game for over 2 months and have spent at most 2 hours in that time grinding anything (a few champions for a monthly). Still have a ton of stuff to explore and do and expect there’s plenty to keep me busy for at least a year, not counting new stuff that gets added.

Grinding is self-imposed. It’s always the people obsessed with optional gear who then convince themselves that grinding that gear is mandatory and then complain that the game is grindy.

Also, sometimes people just outgrow a game and need to go play a different one.

The fact that you’ve only been playing the game for 2 months makes it reasonable why you do not understand the OP. I suggest you read it again.

The Makings of a Lawsuit?

Hmm…

I haven’t even filed a lawsuit yet, and Tixx is offering me all of this. What does that tell you about the validity of my case? Should I take the presents? Should I file? Or should I trade it all for what’s behind door number three?

Hmm this is a complicated matter. How old are you first of all? :X

Age is of no consequence to Asura. Only brains.

But I think we should use Human laws here, seeing the height of the “window” and how Tixx dresses, we can clearly see he’s into bookahs. There is malicious intent towards humans!
