I think it was actually Colin that responded to it at the time, with his leaving it may have been the reason they forgot again. There must be some way for them to jump on it again.
They can’t use 0 cd on anything because it would allow for crazy exploits and possibly lag-bugs. There is a reason those kits have a small cooldown too. Plus it gives you a bit of risk/reward for changing weapons in combat. The cooldown is fairly short, especially if traited for it on ranger/warr for example.
I agree that it would be nice if something would be done to the superior runes. But the only way to fix superior rune pricing is to rebalance all the worthless ones to be more on par in usefulness. You can’t really remove them all because some people do use less wanted runes for niche reasons. You also can’t remove lower tier runes/sigils because there are still many players that aren’t lvl 80 or people with alts. What I do at the moment is just stack up all rare runes/sigils in my bank. At the moment I’m sitting at well over 200 and constantly rising. I don’t even want to think what kind of nightmare mystic forging that will be.
Indeed, those stats were not available at launch but these weapons were. They were simply renamed with the LS patch but the recipes have been left untouched since launch.

They should just add some sort of spirit shard track that you can swap to at any time. This solves the problem of not having all mastery tracks unlocked and allows people to earn shards at will.
I think the actual art assets got lost somehow, at least that’s the vibe I got from their response many months ago. I do wish we’d get them … some of them looked pretty cool.
here is my idea of perfect mmo should have 3 ways to get every new item:
1. cash shop
2. random mob drop and buy from tp
3. grind ur butt off to get it for free
4. Reward for challenging content/achievement (which does exist in this game thankfully).
People are going on a chase trying to figure out what it is, I think it’s just a reference to LOTR where they toss the ring into the lava. (oops spoilers).
Map completing in VB and Auric basin seems to be going just fine, I see lots of trains there all the time. I think Tangled Depths definetely has some issues that are not just related to HP’s being champs (which can be ok, depending on the situation) but many players are unable to navigate the map, making it difficult to get people to group up. On top of that some of the HP’s in TD are already the most dangerous in the game by themselves.
I got map completion there on my main ages ago but I have recently decided to fully map HoT on all my chars. TD is definetely being the biggest problem, even DS map completion is easier despite requiring the meta. Simply because people will come for the meta, TD hp trains are more scarce. I think 2-3 players per HP should be a good thing to aim at. The more remote ones should just be veterans in my opinion, I don’t know what the metrics tells ArenaNet but I’m sure that my own observation might not be that far from the truth. (P.S. I personally do love the map design).
I believe you start seeing them if you’ve done season 3 episode 1. Since episode 2 I’ve been seeing them much more often but that could just be my imagination. You also hear a lightning strike sound effect when one appears out of thin air. They actually look very similar to an echo you can see during episode 1.

I’ve always been against dailies, but my biggest issue with the repeatable hearts is that you must complete all in one day to get map completion. The current ones are simple enough so they are fairly easy to do, but they are not really fun to do all the time because they tie you to one place. Furthermore if this becomes a trend (which seems to be the case, just look at Bloodstone fen daily extravaganza, now Ember Bay…) it may start to cause issues in having to finish too many just to map complete a place. I don’t want to ignore a certain part of map completion just because I know I can’t finish the whole map that day because of x y z. At least in Tarir I can choose to do west, east, north, south or a mix and still get rewards. I really prefer the reward structure of HoT maps by far, SW/Dry Top aswell. Give people their long term goals and give them the option to progress at their pace.
Living story season 2 introduced the Carapace armor (and the reskinned glowy version). So far Season 3 has 2 pieces of armor (head and shoulder). If we are lucky they will finish that set. But I agree, HoT introduced very little in the armor department. I think they simply didn’t have as much time as they’d like to make a big expansion.
I just did them because they’re there and I wanted to beat them all. A title would be nice but I’m fine with how they are now. They could retroactively add a title for finishing all core-jp’s (the ones in the special tab).
Imagine crafting a piece of armor and then slotting stats into it.. that would solve the entire problem of having dozens of stat combos that are unavailable. You’d simply make your own.
The auto-loot is amazing, although ever since I earned it I’ve been getting disconnect/crashes. It’s pretty rare but it never happened to me before I got it.
I think their art team might not get enough budget to make a full set. But it would be interesting to see if they would do such a thing in the expansion. It’d be alot of work though, making 9 full armor sets. But with these skins they can keep them weight exclusive since they are based on classes. Maybe the next expansion will go down this route? I don’t think they will finish the current ones and just wanted to give class-themed armor pieces.

I got told it’s working as intended.. so I went ahead and killed Vale Guardian. Took ages to find a group but at least it went pretty smooth. I do wish locked mastery tracks would not count towards ‘you aren’t at maximum so no exp for you’.
The destroyer crab in that room was also hostile for me even whilst wearing armor (did it on the night of release). So it may just be an anomaly, a rare bug or something. I doubt it has any more meaning than being a game mechanic. You are invulnerable when wearing the armor after all.
There also used to be a funny bug in Silverwastes with those bandits, if someone spent 1g to become allied to bandits other players could kill him/her. The one in ember bay is just for story though, they are made invulnerable and simply change ‘faction’ temporarily so that mobs don’t attack those players.
When I went for the coins in the JP I figured out you can get them all in 1 run if you are on a mesmer. The first coin is in the tunnel that leads to the central lava chamber. Then there is one that’s easily reachable by gliding after checkpoint 2 on the way to 3, you can simply die to port back up. There is also one at checkpoint 3 I believe, if you go down that hole as a mesmer you can port up. The last 2 you should go for after you’ve reached the end and then glide back to that spire that leads to them. Naturally this requires planning and you have to know where you gotta go beforehand.
My advice, bring multiple mesmers if people in your guild also want to go for them. Chronomancers can stack alacrity so you can have portals up nearly 100% of the time, depending on how many people are joining up.
Pre-HoT I spent my time getting all my characters to level 80. Then during HoT I basically used all the spare exotics to finish off gearing some of them (some are still not done though, priorities + game breaks n all). For the same reason as you I tend to do new content on my main first, however now that all my alts are starting to get into a decent shape I do shift my playtime more and more spread over all of them.
I have also spent some time getting them all a decent build to use, only my engineer is still fairly weak due to gear issues but everyone else I’d take to Dragon’s stand as a commander if I want. I will never play certain classes as much though, not all of them are as fun in all aspects of the game. My daredevil is an absolute glass cannon and there’s no way I’d bring that to Dragon’s stand in it’s current gear and build.
HoT also introduced ascended specialization rewards and I’m working on finishing those now. This already gave one alt of mine an extra ascended weapon and I’m getting close to finishing all the others too. A couple have received ascended trinkets from LS2/HoT story achievements. I am not too fussed about gearing them all in ascended, but I have started on my second armor set (light Yassith).
A couple of things that have also helped is the increased focus on account bound rewards vs soulbound rewards. I can share the map keys around to characters that I want to take to said map (i.e. VB or SW etc.) At the end of the day you just have to accept some characters might not suit you as much as your main.
The story seems to be going in a great direction, though I’m with the marjory feedback here. That felt odd. I like how there are now multiple story threads being progressed at the same time. Previously it felt like there were only really 1 or 2 plots going on all focused on the main thing.
The new map is really cool, new mastery is great.. just Hungry Hal is.. glad I got that over with before the fix. I don’t like the hearts but that’s because I dislike dailies and hearts and always had.
The blood rubies and petrified wood should get a place to store them, they are functioning as currency and trophies right now but if this is a trend people are going to have even more items clogging up inventories. HoT introduced 4 keys, we have SW keys, DT keys and so on. I hope a solution is going to be added at some point.
Overal the last 2 patches have been really nice (including the quality of life additions).
Two wrongs don’t make a right though Ayrilana. This one is just a more recent addition to crazy tasks that exist in MMO’s.
I agree that the way deaths have been handled so far sort of missed the mark (at least in my experience). I think they could cause some seriously strong emotions if they don’t kill someone, but rather wound a character that’s been with us for a very long time that we’ve grown attached to. It would be a way to rip them out of the player gang so to speak but still have them alive.
Death isn’t the only reason for sadness. The pact has suffered greatly since Zhaitan, it could be a meaningful event to have them dissolve due to increasing casualties and lack of faith. Fighting a dragon doesn’t always have to make progress, we could get pushed back and find a different way to deal with them.
I will admit here though, I hope Canach doesn’t get that treatment.. he’s got a great voice actor and he has been receiving quite some attention in character building. (which does make him a candidate if that’s what the writers want to do)
Sartharina is true, I’d imagine you can look at Empyreal crystals as crystallized magic of sorts. That’s what I think of it at least.
I think the location was cool, finding the path was kinda difficult without a mesmer though. The only thing that really bothered me is that I helped a whole group go from start to finish but one guy somehow missed a checkpoint and once we got to the end he didn’t get the achievement nor could he open the chest. Worst part was that there was no way to check which one he missed and whether he’d have to pop them in order again. End result was him being frustrated and giving up, which is a shame cause it was fun while we climbed up.
They could also add a boat to the fire islands that sails to any of the map(s?) that gets added. They can do a check on the dialogue to see whether your character can go there or not (finished story once on the account for example, own hot etc.). Lion’s Arch is still a port.
The juvenile wyverns/baby wyverns share a similar design so you could have seen it coming. I don’t mind the design although I would have liked it more if she had a tougher look.
It’s a reference to Tybalt’s ‘apple a day’. The map has daily hearts and they basically push you to bring him an apple a day for the achievement. I’m sure glad I could finish it before this fix because achievements like that are not fun at all. Just a test to see how far you can push players to do a repetitive task if you ask me.
I hope that in their current implementation they are just a one time experiment. I am someone that never liked hearts because they were often very tedious to complete. I rather do events instead where I can choose whether I like the event that’s running or not. Furthermore the point you made about the reset during mid-map completion also affected me on the first day (Completed like 3 or 4 and they got wiped). Now for a one time thing having to redo them, sure. But if I run into this in the new maps that they are going to release, especially if they become as well designed and complex as HoT original zones I really wouldn’t enjoy it.
Furthermore, I don’t like dailies to begin with. I understand why they are there because there are a ton of ppl that would not play without them (gotta love the daily checklist I guess). I think people should be given the freedom to do what they want without feeling like they are missing out on something they ‘should be compelled’ to do.
I also think that vendors should remain accessible even upon a reset if you completed that heart at any point before.
Lastly, these hearts are currently still designed to be the same tedious menial tasks that exist in most core Tyria hearts. If you make them daily, why not go the extra mile and make a few unique tasks/events assigned to them that happen on a random or set rotation.
I also wouldn’t be against seperating these dailies from map completion. If a game requires the daily chore to keep it’s players then your design goals are kind of out of whack, people should play because there is something they enjoy. Not because they are unable to resist the urge to ‘finish their daily task’.
I guess from my tone.. yea dailies have left a bad taste for me ever since they first started popping up in online games.
The juvenile wyverns also share a similar style so it was to be expected, it doesn’t really bother me. I’m looking forward to seeing Aurene become big (or bigger at least) in future stories.
The new UI is great, when LS3E1 came out I got defaulted to green all the time and I could not choose when converting from party → squad. I’m glad that is no longer an issue.
I suspect they aren’t selling a mini now because it would be a major spoiler lol. I’m pretty sure they will sell it eventually. If I’m right then that’s actually quite smart of them.

The positioning of preserver spawn also influences the effective danger of circling that route. North for example always feels easier to circle because you can quickly reach the next preserver. The only downside is that if the third one takes long it’s a long run back to the first.
I would like to see less account bound items though. I have bank slots full of ‘em and I’m too much of a hoarder to just delete them. Perhaps it’s time to use some of the consumable ones…
If you have a personal guildbank, stash it full of your non-account bound items and keep only account bound items in your normal bank tabs. Other than that, it’s easiest to just bite the bullet and filter out things you don’t really need.
The addition of gold cost to rewards is to make sure that inflation is countered, I can only assume that the gold generated by the game (look at 2g/daily, 5g/8dungeons, the giant amount of shiny baubles etc.) can’t be offset by just the trade post anymore. Instead they have started adding that cost to the map rewards. It makes sense even if you might not like it.
The vista is larger and clickable to select it as your F button target, but other than that.. it would be useful if they had some sort of radius check on placeable objects.
I think this feature would work well in raids or even PvP, but the moment you use this in a large scale fight it becomes HUD chaos. I do agree that it would be a nice optional feature to have for support/healers but also for other dps characters that can save an ally.
A while ago a website tool was made that allowed you to open maps from your gw2.dat and it showed many unfinished maps, some which had been in the client since launch (or even got removed after a while). One of those is a map north of divinity’s reach that actually overlaps quite a bit too. The funny thing is, a few weeks ago there was a bug where you could get map completion for Lake Doric (the name of the lake above DR) so it might be opened up in a future LS episode.
After the dailies? What? Lol I have only earned like 800ish points from dailies+monthlies ever (played since launch). But I basically play to do what I want rather than what the game tells me with dailies. So if I feel like map completing on an alt I will go do that. If I want to do crafting I do that, sometimes I do a bunch of meta events or help people with hero points in HoT. Alot of what I do is linked to collections and achievements too, I like getting new skins and some special items you can earn from them.
As for my current long-ish term goals .. I want to get 100% map completion on all maps on all my 9 characters (One nearly has that, most of my other characters are closing in on it too). I have also started crafting an ascended set for my necromancer so I make sure to do neccesary things for that. Furthermore I’m trying to earn all HoT map skins (leystone/bladed/auric etc).
By mixing all the things above up I make sure I keep enjoying the game. I do take breaks quite often as GW2 is only one of many games I play (though it’s the only MMO I still play).
Great design then I guess… Guess I will have to try get into a non-toxic pug :/
It also earns you an achievement when you do it the first time. (It’s actually hidden untill you unlock it in the Bloodstone Fen tab)
After finishing my last Mastery line I am now stuck at 0/0 on my experience bar. The only mastery line I have not unlocked is the one from the raids (Forsaken Thicket). Will I be unable to earn any spirit shards until I do a raid and is it working as intended or is this a bug? Right now it is rather annoying that I have already lost a ton of experience being put towards nothing.
It’s because so many players have jumped on the steps, they wear and tear…
Supply can be influenced though, by making the crafting cheaper (less materials) or droprate higher (more materials). Either way, I pretty never use food except for the +exp for masteries.
The experience granted from mobs when running a birthday booster can actually be pretty kitten big. It mostly occurs in old tyria maps though, but the longer a monster is alive the bigger it’s exp bonus gets. I’ve had kills where I earned 8000 (no joke) exp from a single kill. I used that experience for masteries and it’s also the reason I still run birthday boosters at the moment as I haven’t maxed them all yet. But I think in the case of dungeons they have decided to just let it be and focus their attention on other content. They could structure fractal dungeons like raids so skipping is harder.
I think this is something they are aware of that people want but it requires a ton of work, but also a ton of maintenance whenever new content comes out that can be added to that bestiary/codex (doesn’t have to be limited to just creatures, it can be p.o.i, general lore and collected books etc)
Many (not sure if all) were once truely infinite in this sense but people started farming AP so much that they ran the risk of earning all achievement rewards FAR sooner than Arenanet ever intended. That’s why they put a cap on how many times those repeatable achievements grant AP. It was basically a quick fix and also the reason why the UI still displays points even after you’ve gone past it. It is probably low priority to fix something like that though because it does work as it should.. it’s just a bit confusing if you aren’t aware of this.
We also encountered a dragon champion during LS2 which was the shadow of the dragon. It could be that we will encounter a megedestroyer of sorts in an episode of LS3.
