I am not very good in playing an Elementalist but the Ele is still among the classes with the highest dps, or even the class with the highest dps, but it is not very easy to play and not very beginner friendly (IMO).

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure all of the magical characters have a high DPS.

Their problem is their ability to take damage.

Hence they tend to be better in a group.

Sadly, the majority of players are long term and tend to prefer playing with other experienced players.

The only feasible way for the inexperienced players to meet up and discuss ideas is with a beginners forum.

And we’re back to square one.

You are wrong mate, mesmers got terrible damage but boost the whole group with alacrity, necro got mediocer damage but since they dont give the group anything they are rarely wanted, and elementalists got highest damage on big targets + a crap ton of boons from combo fields that they blast.

Good thing about SAB is that it’s an instance that has no effect on the playerbase who has no interest in SAB.

Except that devs already complained how much effort it is to make a single sab map.
As a result, it does affect us. It takes several devs a month or longer to make on map. All that effort couldve gone to ls3, current events, or expansion.. I dunno.. actual content

Well sab is actual content to mate.

Anet, true to form, bowed and scraped before the robber barons who run this virtual economy and ended up making a system that’s more expensive and time-consuming than the problem they were trying to address (especially when it was skyrocketing precursor prices that inspired them to start creating a “scavenger hunt” in the first place back in 2013).

No it was people who asked for a none rng way to get precursors, not having to throw stuff into the forge or hope for a random drop that might be spear and you wanting 1h sword.

And we got exactly that

Checked on gw2efficiency and even this is what shows up for spark (without using own mats) :

- 574g —> buy everything through demands even daily gated mats.
- 451 --> same except you use your own gated mats (mithrillium, elonian leather, etc).

This is with buying everything, you should have some mats laying around that can bring the cost to less than 400g easily.

Of course the price will be close to pre if you decide to straigth up buy your mats from the tp instead of filling buy orders.

In this case it’s not pre crafting who is the joke…

This is totally wrong. You are basically forced to buy Deldrimor Steel Ingots. 85 of them costs 522. Don’t tell me you will craft them. It will take you 85 days to do so. And then again 10 Elonian is 106 gold. I checked prices in game. I don’t know where you got your prices from.

EDIT: I checked on gw2efficiency and the price there is without Deldrimore steel ingots. Therefore its 451 gold + 10 elonian + 85 deldrimore. You do the math….

What you havent been playing the game at all?
I got 77 deldrimore, 92 lumps of mithirlium so could craft those easily if i ordered the materials from tp.
57 elonian with 100 spools
27 spirit wood with 125 elder spirit
Only 48 damask and 67 silk since i cant be bothered to farm 100 silk bolts everyday.

Its suposed to be a long term goal not buy everything from tp and done…. if you wanted that just buy the kitten precursor.

Any veteran MMO player that is new to GW2 will instantly recognize that the game is actually worth taking at a slow pace instead of the fast pace that the mentors encourage.

However, it’s those who are new to MMOs that will most likely fall into the trap of farming, speed-running, and grinding. Otherwise, they are veteran MMO players that want to farm, speed-run, and grind.

To me, the quests in this game are really, really boring. I can’t really explain why. Maybe it’s the lack of NPC/Player interaction when starting a quest. Maybe it’s the lack of a decent reward for doing them. As a veteran MMO player myself, I’m used to receiving armor, gold, and other shinies from quests, but all I receive in GW2 is a measly amount of coins. Therefore, I find grinding more enjoyable than quests because the rewards are infinitely better. That’s just my opinion though.

There are no quests in gw2 so thats understandable that you find them boring since you have nothing to do.

There are however heart task that sole purpose is to hold you to an area were it should spawn a event or three that you can do to fill the hearts faster.

More elites per expansion...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Linken.6345

Linken.6345

As the topic implies guys. I think part of the lack of diversity right now is due to everything being centered arround only ONE elite spec per class. I know Metas are usually centered arround a couple viable options per charater, but the way the actual “viability” of each class works is a railroad, even when you want to create your own build.

To be honest, I was expecting much more from HoT, and some of those expectations were behind the Elites, because at least by releasing one Elite per expansion pack, it’s going to take a mighty while to reach the point where we can seriously pretend this is a sequel of the “most diverse MMO out there”.

And what MMO was that?
If you talk about gw1 thats a CORPG, or Competitive/Cooperative Online Role Playing Game

Earn your glider basics to continue....

Linken.6345

OK I have the message to earn my glider basics to continue with the story “Establishing a Foothold”
Great
So Is there an official guideline by the producers to teach us that or are we left to guess?

I have hunted you tube/internet and what I get is everybody making videos that have guys already with wings on running real quick to all kinds of areas then you do the quest here, then you do the quest here, then here and then you can glide ….. jumps off a mountain. Somehow the areas they show are never the areas where I am getting the official message to learn gliding! before I can go on
So I run and jump and fall like a rock and die.

Nobody tells you where you are supposed to get the wings and what you are actually supposed to do from when you have finished the two parts in Heart of Thorns that are before “Establishing a Foothold”.

So I don’t know, must be a lot of good guessers in this game or is that why so many people advised against this game? I always enjoyed it and now came back after I was stuck for a long time with the Dark Soul games.

So yes, so advice would be great if somebody knows whether the producers actually took the time to write some instructions/guide or if somebody seriously made a you tube to teach ( and not talks with a bored rapid voice to just get internet points up)

If you have played the dark souls games they give even less information then this game so how cant you find it?
You need to gain exp in verdant brink map by doing what ever.
Then train gliding basic by useing 1 green mastery point under masteries “heart of maguma”

Why is auto-loot gated behind masteries

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Linken.6345

I grinded early in the year to get my auto-loot. I really think this should be a basic feature because there are lots of people who have disabilities that this would help because they would need to hit fewer keys. If they made it a basic feature they could replace the mastery level for this with something else. It’s part of the commander mastery so why not replace it with the ability to command GW1 style henchmen in Fractals, Dungeons and Raids so players could solo them easier.

Sad to hear you had to grind it, all I had to do was play some fractals for exp and use my mastery points.

They never knew he made the decision, there’s no indicator for it for the entire fractal.

Only when the boss is fought does the debuff show as far as I know (80% reduced healing for the whole fight).

The group opener is shady as heck in this. ‘Kicking’ the person is no different than all members leaving the group, in fact one could even say it is more practical not to waste everyone’s time. Though from the sounds of it the group likely either finished the fractal at that level or redid the whole thing.

it do make a dif mate, if they had simply left the guy could have done a new lfg challenge mote last boss 65 but since they kicked he lost his progress to.

I miss when an mmorpg sent me off on adventures.

GW2 feels like a daily checklist.

Fill up a heart by killing x mobs, collecting x items, interacting with x objects, etc.
Get your AP by unlocking x skins, killing x mobs, or consuming x items, etc.
Complete your daily by mining x ores, capturing x camps, or winning x matches, etc.

Good grief it’s like the worst examples of mmorpg quests were turned into a whole game on their own.

Anyone remember the days when an mmorpg would have a person in town needing your help. Sending you off to those distant mountains. To journey deep into a mysterious cave, finding some ancient ruins. Navigating deadly traps and conquering strange beasts. And eventually coming across whatever that NPC was after tucked away in a tomb. What an adventure!

Yea and gw2 have that to, but the dungeons are abit old now and now new ones sadly

Yes becouse taking an hour or 2 to run and onlock said first waypoint in all dungeon maps is so much work.

You could always grab your credit card get a bunch of teleport to friend from black lion chests and have a friend wp around and you warping after.

its part of the game. it gives you something worth it to work towards.

No its not “part of the game”. its basic feature that every MMO has that anet has not made ‘part of the game’ unless you GRIND for it.

That’s not a correct statement. It’s also not relevant. Clearly, Anet felt it was a reward worth it’s position in the masteries. That is all that matters.

If you think it doesn’t matter that GW2 locks a common MMO option behind in-game grinding then you are fooling yourself.

And how is it a common mmo option, the only game I remember having it in was flyff. ( and I only had it since I bought a pet in the real money store. )

A Suggestion For Raids

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Linken.6345

Linken.6345

I just want to say that if or when we get tiered raid system, their rewards shouldn’t be the same at all. In most other games the gear you obtain from lower tiers are different and/or weaker than higher tier gear, and serve to power up the players to withstand damage in higher tiers. You do not grind lower tiers to get higher tiers’ loot. Likewise, it would be unfair for raiders if an easy mode offered same rewards – even if it would take longer to get them in easy mode.

Fractals have this in a way. Loot tables of daily fractal chests show that Initiate’s Chest doesn’t yield any ascended chests, Adept’s has a small chance to yield only weapon chests, Expert’s has a higher chance to yield weapon chest and a small chance for armor and Master’s has an even higher chance to yield weapon chest and higher chance for armor. Each tier’s reward prepare for the higher tier, in form of agony slots. You can’t hope to grind T1 dailies for full ascended (not counting crafting and vendor).

Raids need organization and time for success (much more so than even t4 fractals to compare), and if an easy way out to get its rewards is to be introduced it would break the raid community apart. I mean, who would show the time and commitment to get better if they can just grind it in a failproof way?

Raid rewards are already RNG related and may not worth a whole lot, trinkets you can get from them are inferior to some much easier to get LS ones (blood ruby) and raid themed stuff are more often than not are put to gem store. Easy mode, if its ever implemented, shouldn’t take away the stuff raiders cling on to.

So since you can do t1 for a very long time and get full ascended armor/weapons, but you conveniently not counting the vendor.

By your reasoning we should get a easier raid that get legendary over a unreasonably long time, but not impossible glad your onboard mate.

But I love my Power Reaper…

This one sentence explains the entire problem with raids in GW2 right now.

Playing the profession/build you most enjoyed was okay when the game first came out, but for those players wanting to raid, ArenaNet has adopted a policy of min/max or go away – or, at the very least, min/max or forever be looked down upon by the raid community (because of the huge disparity between professions/builds)

It has been bad for the game. It has brought elitism and nastiness once reserved or a tiny percentage of dungeon/fractal runners front and center in the GW2 endgame.

A game that used to be about just enjoying yourself and creating characters that were just a tiny bit unique is now about copy pasting and conforming to a single accepted playstyle.

And, the worst part is, it isn’t necessary. It is 100% possible to implement challenging content without doing this. For some bizarre reason, the developers have begun moving away from the inclusive and fun-focused philosophy they had in the early game days toward the toxic mess the game is currently becoming.

I know that sounds extreme, but I hate seeing this happen to GW2. What was once this shining unique gem in the market has become another me-too clone-the-player-next-to-you game. And, I think their approach to raids are the single biggest reason for that.

3 years ago: Why won’t groups take my bear bow ranger? I do a lot of damage away from the group, my bear tanks, and my knock backs keep the enemies away.

But seriously, the fix is to buff power reaper. It’s also underperforming in pvp and wvw.

Yes and all welcome none meta group took those players and completed dungeons just fine.

As is also possible with raids.

Yes it would be if time limitation went out the window sure.

The enrage is not a problem, considering there have even been groups who killed vale guardian after 50 minutes of constant fighting because they decided to run ten heal eles.

Yea I seen the 10 guardian vale guardian aswell…. were are the 10 ranger, 10 engi, 10 necro, 10 warrior, 10 thief, 10 mesmer and 10 revenant kills tho?

And can you do it on any of the other 8 bosses not counting escort here.

Did you even bother checking?

Other professions / bosses are entirely possible as well.

Nice to see other classes beating vale guardian, no I dident check to answer the question.

Just throwing in that other bosses are entirely possible sounds abit fishy tho.

Since vg-escort are the so called “easy encounters” right?

Mother of.. this thread is still going !? What have I done …

Nice topic idea, but polluted by people wanting easy access to raid reward, without wanting to create a topic for that…

‘’In what other ways would the tiers be distinguished from eachother?’’

Tiers could be distinguished not only in difficulty but also in the rewards and progression you get to specific things. For an example, doing Tier 1 would give you a certain currency that you can convert into a currency of Tier 2 and so forth. The weekly cap from Tier 3 would not apply on the lower tiers, giving more room for advanced players to farm Raids more often and still get all the rewards they want. And this would also motivate people who try it out on Tier 1 to try to go even higher and on a more consistent amount. One other important thing to distinguish the tiers from eachother is by locking the LFG into specific tiers just the same as with Fractals. This would keep the division of advanced players and new players but still keep every kind of player satisfied that they are able to delve into this large chunk of content.

From the OP just becouse some posters discuss only 1 of the aspects of the OP dont mean they are polluting the thread

If they would introduce more mastery points to the core game, I wouldn’t mind. But the points I need to to complete the only mastery left are tied to personal story repeats and a lot of activities that are nothing more than a grind.
They have added new points to the living story, how about making the next few batches red instead of green.

There are no Mastery Points tied to Personal Story ‘repeats’. One can earn 8 Mastery Points (1 for each Level arc), and 8 MPs only.

Perhaps, you are confusing the Personal Story with the Living World Episodes.

Sorry, mixed up the story label. (but playing the personal story with races I haven’t used would also qualify—but would have to buy character slots). But the point is when I look at what I need to get 8 more MPs, I see nothing but grinds, obscure collections, repeating each episode many times for a to get 1 point. A few more points added to the core game maps would be easy to do. My mistake was picking the legendary mastery with my MPs instead of the auto-loot.

If you done personal story with 1 char 1-80 you wont get any more points for doing other races.

A Plea for a Raid Story Mode

This is an important topic, and it’s important to try to cut through a lot of the misunderstandings and confusion about what a story mode would necessarily mean.

1) It would NOT mean taking away the challenging content.

2) It would NOT mean taking away the notoriety or honor involved with completing the “hard mode” raids, or even in one sense the exclusivity of the story itself. I am a veteran of another AAA MMO which always released the raids in three stages: first a standard mode, then later on a story mode and a nightmare mode.

The standard mode took some skill to complete, so only regular raiders could complete it on release. The story mode came out making it accessible to (mostly) everyone, but when the nightmare came out it was well known that only the best of the best could complete it. In fact, it even created more content and more prestige for this top tier of players, who had to work very hard to beat the nightmare mode.

Nobody was under any illusion that those who beat the story mode had accomplished anything of any real value, much less that they’d done anything comparable to the top tier players.

3) It would NOT necessarily mean earning the raid exclusive rewards. This is, I think, the point that has been most concerning to many. Ultimately, a story mode raid need not offer any of the raid specific rewards. Let it be for the STORY and the story alone.

I really can’t conceive of any reason to reject creating a story mode version of the raids if it’s clear that they are just for the story rather than rewards, prestige, etc.

This is what a lot of us are trying to say.

It isn’t about rewards.

It isn’t about denying or removing challenging content (there needs to be more of that in the game, imo).

It is about offering the experience of raiding and the stories they tell (no matter how minor) to more people.

I respect that the developers originally intended raids to serve one goal and only one goal. I just think that wasn’t the right direction for raids. And there are plenty of people who agree with us on that. I have friends who enjoy playing certain builds/professions, friends who don’t enjoy the minutia of preparing and grinding out raid attempts and friends who may be disabled/older/simply less skilled – all of whom I would really enjoy experiencing this 10-player content with. That is really all I want – to play with all of my friends – not just the small group that is willing to spend the time and attention raids require – all of them. That is what GW2 has always offered the community. I don’t want to see that change.

So, once again and hopefully for the last time – this has NEVER been about removing or hindering challenging content in the game. For me (and many others), it has never been about getting something for little or no effort. It is about wanting to play with friends simply because they are my friends – nothing more.

If we’re just talking about story, then a cinematic would solve these complaints. (Despite that all story elements are in a completed instance). They did the same thing for LS1.

I think you’re mixing your goals here (getting your friends in raids). First, you could just bring them along. Second, this would be a problem for any hard content in the game (like arah/aetherpath). Third, any additional mode does impact raids, because it slows down development of future raids, and requires them to retrofit all the previous ones.

If you could promise that it wouldn’t slow down any raids, no one would care (other than thinking that it would be a failure).

How is that a problem for any other hard instanced content then raids?
You can take 4 hours to kill each boss in arah/aetherpath that you used as examples.

If a cinematic is all they plan on implementing how about they link a youtube video that show all the wings instead less work same result.

I agree that youtube + a completed instance should satisfy anyone who cares that much about the story.

You can also take as long as you want in most raids, assuming you can survive. However, I think theory is pointless here — lupi would stymie an unskilled player just as much as vg would.

Yes but people can solo lupi can you solo any of the raid bosses?

Indeed, very few, if some at all, are at 300. but I suppose there’s some.. there’s always some.
But those people can simply not forge the kit.

But what if they dont want the runes either its not a good solution for them.

A Plea for a Raid Story Mode

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Linken.6345

Linken.6345

When all you want is an easier way to acquire something since you don’t want to put the effort into raiding to get the rewards.

This comment grates on my nerves so very, very much.

First, many (likely most) have not asked for it be easier. They have only asked for an alternative option. So stop making assumptions that options equate to “easy” because they don’t.

Second, there are people that would be interested in raiding; however, assorted reasons may prevent them from doing so. Its not necessarily lack of skill, lack of desire, or lack of motivation.

First idc if it grates on your nerves, it is my opinion based on the numerous topics that bring this up.

Second Go look at most threads about getting Legendary Armor Most ask for either Easier raids to acquire it or it to be added to open world which by definition easier than Raids so yes it is asking to be easier to acquire. ( I.e. More time/more gold does not equate to similar difficulty)

Third if they were interested in raids they would find a way to do them, if they have time to spend in game they have time to work raids into that playtime, it comes down to the players priorities and effort, I have limited time to play this game I am still able to get done what I want in my limited time. So yes it’s a lack of motivation/effort, they could put forth the effort to find a guild that Raids when the times they play, they can attempt PuGs during the time they play if they really wanted to raid and work towards the Legenday armor.

Yes but most also say it will take longer more time less difficult but same effort, you want same time or even quicker for your implementation and that dont cut it mate.

Ofcourse it will have something new a new skin for your legendary armor. + new minis new weapon skins etc.

We don’t yet have Legendary Armor but once we do, the Raid after that will need to offer something new. Why an armor skin again? To take another couple of years to create? That’s an extra time better spent creating armor skins for other types of content, provided it’s the same armor skin team that creates the legendary armor and other armor sets. If they go with a Raid per year, which is possible, that would be one legendary armor set per year… combined with the precursor armor skins, that would mean their entire armor skin team would be working on legendary armors every year.

On the other hand, a trinket shouldn’t require as much time, if any time, and backpacks would take a fraction of the time since they look the same regardless of race/gender. Plus, getting ascended trinkets is stupidly easy and cheap, so a legendary version won’t be the same kind of improvement as legendary armor is.

Why should raid be the only content that get new exclusive things?

There are exclusive things in every Living World episode so far.

Fractal same thing with the fractal weapons untill the backpack droped but then you can get that in spvp aswell so dubble the paths to get it compared to armor.

One more reason to give a Legendary backpack in a next raid instead of a new armor set.

Well you can get a way to earn the 15% currency aura next raid and the open world people get the legendary armor deal?
And since you will chase new skins in the new raid the old legendary armor and its skins should be fine to put out in open world content I mean its old you dont want that you want the new shiny.

How about you get Legendary Armor in Open Pve when WvW /Pvp gets Access to the Legendary Weapons( to include all HoT).

If you want that start asking for reward tracks that unlock map poi, vista, waypoints for each of the maps then mate.
Ofcourse it would take 2-3 times longer to do then doing the map normaly.
Its asking for a easier but more time consuming way to earn the maguma exploration just like peope are asking for with armor in raids.

To this date I havent seen anyone of you people ask for it tho only useing it as an argument to shut people up when they ask for.

Please no… Legendary Trinkets maybe? A Raid Legendary backpack? But not another armor set…

Oh so raids should have even more incentives aint the armor hostage taking enough?

Talking about the next Raid not this one. Or you think the next one won’t have anything new?

Dungeons only had dif skins and stats ( dont need diffrent stats with legendaries)

If I were to start a thread about making Envoy Armor available from World Completion on the Living World board, and someone came in arguing that this shouldn’t be done because they should remain exclusive to raids, do you believe it would be fair for me to attempt to silence that line of thinking because “we aren’t talking about raids in this thread?”

That topic would be too narrow. If you made a thread about getting rewards (in general), maybe in general chat, from multiple types of content then it would be really hard to go off topic. And from what I understand that’s your real problem and not the Envoy armor alone.

Before discussing if Envoy Armor should get an alternative method of acquisition, wouldn’t it better if the topic was about getting everything through alternative methods of acquisition? Otherwise to anyone jumping in the thread, it looks like you want to get Envoy Armor and want the Envoy Armor alone from an easier method.

But the path of least resistance would be raiding, these would be alternatives which would take longer.

Path of least resistance isn’t only about time, it’s about effort too.
In that raiding time, do you include training, gearing, mastering the content too? Do you add the time required for some players of the community to create guides for said content? Or you just say it will be the path of least resistance because a Raider can get the entire first part of the legendary armor collection in one evening, clearing all wings.
Do you use the time an average player will require to get the reward, or the best of the best raid runners?

As an example:

As an example 3 li a week (33% of what you can get now right for the 3 wings?)for easy mode thats 50 weeks close a year for the precursor armor casuals but no definately dont want that.

I still haven’t killed Matthias, one year after they released Salvation Pass. I admit I haven’t tried much, was too busy killing the other bosses, but still. In that easy mode, how many times (so how many weeks because you’ll always kill him) would it take to get all the collection achievement rewards from Mat?

Dosent matter if it take 1 time or 50 times on each boss since you have to clear it 50 weeks anyway.

Edit
And this would help you to since you could casualy kill the boss you needed how ever many times that took. Or take the easier method of training and killing it 1 time in normal mode

Can’t say I disagree with you about the utility effect to some degree, but I still just have the say the same lines I always say whenever there are complaints about legendary armor:

1. It has yet to be released. We are essentially complaining about something that is not even certain yet.
2. ArenaNet never stated that there won’t be additional ways to acquire said gear. Hightly doubt they will keep something they worked on for a year (or even years?) from the general public like that.
3. And even if I am wrong about 1. and 2., legendary items have always made you do a good amount of different content pieces to acquire them. They are supposed to be a legendary journey after all. You can see raids as an upgraded version of dungeons, content you had to do for the weapons.

Yea and the li would be earnable in wvw and spvp aswell since thats what you can do to get your dungeon tokens now.

Then why change the system if you provide a “solution” that is not better than what we currently have ?

You wouldn’t, but instead I present a system that’s better than what we already have, which is why they should implement it.

Your system has literally been discussed for over a year why it is not a better system. It is never a good thing to take away incentives from doing any content by placing them in an easier method to acquire them.

Can you stop bringing up that ridiculous and potentially game-destroying idea?

Yes becouse anet dont want people to play their game for longer peroids of time thats bad buisness right?

As an example 3 li a week (33% of what you can get now right for the 3 wings?)for easy mode thats 50 weeks close a year for the precursor armor casuals but no definately dont want that.

I definitely agree with a generic “storage expansion” that increases the storage capacity of both materials AND bank.

Those expanders are for sale separately. I like the modular nature. Are you asking them to make an item that expands both or just looking for cheaper storage?

I havent seen any expanders that let you store bettwen 500-2000 in the normal bank slots, have I missed something?

I find funny complaining about getting some weeks to get your first boss kill. Its part of the process to start raiding, everybody need to pass it. Just because there are people way far this point now that kill all bosses really fast doesnt mean that you can skip the process they went thought

First of all, I don’t know what are you talking about, nothing wrong with the title. O.o
Second, I think that they should also improve the tutorials in this game. Hell I didn’t know anything about any finisher, leap or blast till I was 80 and someone did a mini tutorial to me and helped me improve my gameplay and profession skill.
Wooden Potatoes – Suggested in his stream yesterday on how to improve the tutorial and I completely agree with him.
https://www.twitch.tv/woodenpotatoes/v/103546871?t=01h34m45s

You do know if they made full armor sets they would cost at minimum 2400 for a whole set they take alot more resources to complete.

Dude what are you talking about, where are you getting this information?
Normal armor set at the gem store now cost 800 gems, it is alot of work but compare to the outfits it only cost 100 gems more. You really think that Anet will post that armour at that price if they didn’t made money of it?
Second it will never cost that much becuase nobody will buy it, when you sell those kids of things it’s a question of quantity the more you sell the more you earn. even if they lose on the first 200 they sell, from there on out it pure profit. The different between this and normal IRL cloth is that it cost you X amount of money to make every close that your sell. But in here it cost you X amount of money to make at first, but after it’s finished it cost 0 money to make, because it a line of code that can be copied without any cost.

Yes that is true, but then they can go according to this metric noone wants armor skins in the gem store so we will not make any more period.
