You could try reinstalling your video drivers. I have had to do that a few times already for this game to vanquish problems.
I suggest turning the sampling rate down to native, for boss fights, instead of super sampling. I have the same CPU and GPU, but I have 2 of that card in SLI, and it does help. The 16 gig ram I have isn’t worth considering in this scenario.
Could it be CPU parking?
I suggest first figuring out what you want, and then source out places where you can buy those parts for as close to cheap as possible. Post here what you have thought up, and then we can assist you further.
Suggest figuring out what CPU you want, then find the motherboard suitable for that, using the socket type it shows. Then from there, just buy the cheapest ram that your system can support. Faster ram doesn’t help by much, and certainly doesn’t help at all for your budget. There are a heap of experts online that will tell you about this. The difference is only a couple frames per second. Just buy cheap ram, and about 8 gig of it. Also if you buy more than 1 ram stick, better to buy dual ram for dual channel slots, and quad ram for quad channel slots. I doubt you will be buying quad channel ram though. But I recommend 8 gig of ram.
Then from there, you need a GPU. Well thankfully this game doesn’t require a powerful GPU, just a descent CPU for the overhead calculations that the GPU relies upon, and the other game functions. Please if you can, please get an Intel CPU for Guild Wars 2. A few folks on these forums have made the mistake of getting an AMD branded CPU, and then crying about the performance loss it gives.
If your GPU has around 350 shader cores, such as for example, cuda, and can do about 900 mhz or more, then you are fine. 1 gig of vram is okay for this game, but if you can get more within your budget, that’s good too. Try looking for a second-hand GPU, as you can actually get pretty good with pre-loved. You have people who upgrade yearly, and have an extra card just lying around. If they sell you the GPU, you can get a good price for lots of performance.

As I said.. an eye for an eye… same at VW when the AFK leechers stand to the side walls and wait for the big chest to pop.. just drag a few terrogrifs or leechers across to sort them out and leave them to rot I say.

The picture reminds me of Afro Samurai. “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.”
Report their abuse and include details, tell people to also report it. If you feel the need, video record it and post up online, and then send a link to customer support. Remember that if they paid for their account, they are going to lose it LOL.
Anybody else going to input on this? Is the OP considering buying it still? Anybody suggest alternatives within the same price bracket?

Oh boy, and from the official website too. I still have to buy my copy of HoT. Looks like I could end up facing a bumpy ride as well.
Easily avoidable by buying it through the website and waiting 3-7 days to apply the key.
There’s no risk if it gets refunded before you apply it.
Ah thanks for this information. But what happens if somebody uses a pre-paid MasterCard? You can’t refund credits back to those things.

Well at least the customer support exists here. Sometimes you gotta bang your head a few times to get somebody to listen, but it does work. Just don’t like the idea of upto 3 weeks of waiting. I should be fine though, but if something does happen, I’m not going to break out in a sweat.

If reinstalling the game does not fix it, then obviously the problem is not the game, but something external, like video card drivers.

That’s the specs on your card.
This is what I got on my Laptop:
Nvidia 840M
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-840M.105681.0.html
I find that the 840M handles the game exceptionally well. In fact I am confident that your card can handle Guild Wars 2 just fine, although not sure about 4K confidence though. Not that I recommend 4K for this game. 1080p seems to be where to go for monitor resolution.
But I need to ask you what CPU you are rocking with, because this game relies on the CPU to be strong, not the GPU. So what CPU?
Also advice I have read on these forums is that AMD CPU Architecture tends to be lacking for this game, and it’s preferred to go with Intel, for more stronger Single Threaded Performance.
Hope this helps!

A bit suspicious about why your pc would be having trouble with 8.1. Try loading up command prompt with administrator rights, and type in this command:
sfc /scannow
This will check the copy of Windows you have, and attempt to repair any corrupt files. If it fails, that’s not good, but it will provide a log file to help. If it comes out all okay with no problems, I wonder then.
Wonder if the file table got corrupted.
If I can play this game on my Laptop with an Nvidia 840M GPU, with reshade and master effects enabled for post-processing and enhanced shaders, and play just fine, then it goes to show that what you really need is a good CPU to back it up. The HP Envy I have packs a descent i7 CPU in it. For those who are not familiar with reshade and master effects, it’s similar to sweetfx and gemfx.

If you normally use a graphics card, and then get this bug, try switching over to Intel Integrated or the AMD APU. If the game starts working with this enabled, then your problem is probably driver issues, and you should reinstall the graphics card drivers.
The problem you would experience is where after starting the game and entering character selection screen, the game goes blank screen, the computer locks up with a CPU infinity loop error, probably related to the driver locking up. To get out of this, you’re forced to hard reset the computer.
Thanks for your input, but changing those nvidia settings is the most basic thing i would do when i notice performance issues. I’m not even sure if it’s x4, because it reads PCIE x16 2 in the slot it currently is in. The slot that’s broken is PCIE x16 1. However in nvidia inspector it says 3.0 @ 1.1×4.
What about windows power settings in advanced. Could the PCI express be power saving? Set power options to high performance. Just throwing out ideas.
OP has a gtx 980ti running in a 4x slot? Uhhhh why? I know broken mobo, but that’s a serious waste of a gpu right there!
Also OP, please check to see if the card is running in adaptive power mode, or performance mode. Adaptive can sometimes switch to power saving mode and cause the game to lag something awful.
Anybody else with a skylake cpu having problems? I do know the skylake architecture did drop support for certain legacy features, in favor of performance. Is there something on the cpu that Guild Wars 2 was relying upon that is now missing? Kinda thinking nope. I wanna know if anybody else with a skylake cpu has this issue, or not any issue at all.

US ISPs have been on a downhill slide with regards to their peering and routes. Use a VPN.
Sad but true. But not exactly the case for everybody though.
CPU parking could be worth looking into.
Uh, twelve months later and still broken? Good game!
Although it would be nice if it was resolved in the release of the HoT fix, get it? XD
Also looking forward to HoT expansion. o3o
I paid and added SMS to my account 2 days ago; still no access to the trading post
Wonder if you have to wait 3 days, due to anti-fraud.
What happens if you run a game repair? You know how to do that?
Razer Naga 2014, no issues here. Of course like you I only use 1 button per 1 action. I am actually hard pressed to see why anybody would need to do more.

Windows 10
Nvidia Drivers 355.82
GTX 760 reference Dual SLI
i7-4790K
16GB 2133 mhz DDR3 Ram
No lag here with Ultra either, all good. And yeah I remember back when it was a problem. Thanks whoever fixed it!
GPU Load 99%
15 fps on lowest settings
?
What?
That doesn’t make sense.
Got the feeling you will be fishing around in the dark for a solution. What screen resolution are you now playing at?
What graphics device are you using? Intel integrated, AMD, Nvidia, Other?
I had my Intel i7 4790K set to 3.6 ghz with a 4.0 ghz cache, hyperthreading. It ran guild wars 2 okay, and I was underclocking.
Changed it to 4.8 ghz with no hyperthreading, and watched the fps bump up to my monitor’s top fps, 60. Gotta understand that I have enhanced post-processing and shaders running to make the game look more graphically appealing. This is something allowed, since it does not modify the actual game, nor give any advantage over anybody.
Also noticing that my video cards are running hotter now as well. 3.6ghz was bottlenecking the game. 4.8ghz unleashed the monster. ;D

I highly recommend getting a 2nd hand video card now, and upgrade next year when Nvidia Pascal comes out.

My concern is the mobile phone authentication for Guild Wars 2.
Because when the hacker gets your mobile phone address over the ss7 network, they can read your phone authentication from anywhere in the world. Just a thought to think about. And if you don’t know about ss7 network hacking, go look it up. Still, anything is better than being nakid to hackers. But it would be worth considering looking at the security aspect of mobile phone authentication. If you think it’s all tin foil hat rubbish, you’re fooling yourself.
I think so, yeah.
What program does task manager say is using all the cpu power?
Hard crashes the pc, not simply the game itself? You should consider investigating the type of bsod you had, and troubleshoot to resolve from there.
:) With that logic all the hardware on the market for competitive gamers is a lie? 0,033 of a second does make a difference. Besides im not critisizing your idea of limiting frames to reduce heat im critisizing limiting it to 30. He could limit it to 60, which is most probably his display’s refresh rate, so all the excess computing power that’s used to render anything above that point where he cant perceive is not turning heat.
Well in-game does have that already built-in 30 fps limit. It works just fine imo. You won’t gain much more with more frames imo. Also more expensive hardware, more frames, more or less heat, really it’s a matter of, to each their own poison, so the saying goes.
So the decision to do or not do should be based on somebody elses terrible job at porting? Is that the benchmark?
The real issue has to do with multi-threading. Using metal on GPU is just one of many ways that can be used to off-load work.
(edited by Loli Ruri.8307)
You could try frame limiting. Do you actually need to see more than 30 fps?
Seriously? 30? While playing a game you need as much as you possibly can have. it’s not a movie.
30 is like 1 frame per 0.033 of a second. You’re saying you’re going to make that much more difference with less than 0.033 of a second? xD
Also frame limiting is one of many ways to reduce heat. Upto op to decide though.
Could think of it like this, everybody can play guardian class in gw2, but not just anybody can be good at it in WVW, not straight away. Takes effort and commitment. Not everybody is willing to do that. Same in this case too. But it probably comes down to worth. Will it pay off to reach out to console gamers? Answer is ????
You could try frame limiting. Do you actually need to see more than 30 fps?
But doesn’t Dx12 give you twice the frames per second to do the same exact stuff that Dx11 does but better? You should read up on how it gets better performance. My question is, what bottleneck of Dx12? Also, what difficulty to implement? Do you actually know? Not that it matters, as it’s a decision that ArenaNet needs to decide, or probably more their managers. But I will tell you this, there is a demand.
Could be that the game is suffering from CPU parking problems. Might want to check into that.
Also I suggest looking into seeing if the GPU is in use, as it’s probably intel integrated in use and that’s the problem.

I have a laptop with less than what you have, and yet it works with more than max settings, lagless CPU.
What is Sausage Milk? When somebody thinks about what it might be, one may not think of food, sadly.
The mesmer name is extremely similar to a Scottish slang word for “gentlemans parts”.
Thats all I got.
That’s not the impression I get when reading that name… also that’s a pretty lame excuse to mess with a person’s character.
Interesting enough if a family member took your car without permission, and then crashed it, you could at least do something to get some form of compensation. Buuuuuut before the moderators now remove my post, here’s the point: On the Internet, your IP address and computer represents you. Sadly there are situations where that can get you into trouble by the law, especially if somebody places incriminating evidence. Reality is that your computer does not always mean you. But proof needs to be established. And there’s your problem.
Be kinda nice if Anet at least played nice and did some kind of account recovery anyways. It’s only once. But Policy steps in and says no, and I sometimes wonder if policy is just a big meanie that doesn’t understand human compassion.

I never get these phishing emails. How are other people getting them?
Thanks for moving my thread to suggestions. ^.^
I would like to suggest several different sounds that can be selected to play when a skill is ready to use. These sound clips would be very brief, and yet optional. The advantage to this would be, for example, to tell you that your elite skill is ready to use again, or that if you’re a guardian for example, your sword or hammer is ready to re-use.
It is nice that we can look down and see the icons, and then work out that we can use it again. However some times you need to concentrate on what’s going on, and not the skill bar. Having a sound play would help those who have trouble concentrating on multiple tasks on the screen. Overall it would help to make the game more enjoyable for those who are needing the extra lil prompt.
Now I hope that somebody doesn’t simply knock this idea down simply by using the “don’t be lazy” card. I can’t be the only person who wishes there was more prompt for when a skill is ready to re-use.
Make sure to get 64bit cpu and operating system.
Why not just make the forum say this thread upon them attempting to submit a mail to you, and then make them do a tiny comprehension test before they can continue with sending you mail? I’m sure it will kill a lot of mail that’s going your way incorrectly.
Because people would still fail the test and then start posting threads here about it :P
So what you’re saying is, the test would be a successful deterrent to clogging the CM’s mailbox with spam?
