Apparently according to Gaile Gray, Urban Dictionary is a credible source of definitions. If that’s true, any name out there is fair game to attack by people who for lols make up definitions for the sake of entertainment. What happened to Dictionaries we could really count on? If you want to know what I mean about Urban Dictionary, look up “urban dictionary” on Urban Dictionary website. Pretty much!
I doubt they can restore your guild at this point.
Have offensive racial, ethnic, national, or cultural connotations
Please consider reading the Naming Policy before making something as important as a guild.
That’s the problem with words, they have meaning dependent upon the context. However people have filthy minds and assume the worst. :U
Open a ticket with customer support and appeal. This is your option if you want your name back.

Fake.
If Anet needs to close an account, they just go ahead and do so, giving you the option to simply open a ticket with customer support to resolve the issue.
Paypal problems plague a few other games I know. The other games also ban your account, however they offer a way to resolve the billing issue, and don’t punish you after the issue is resolved by treating you like a villain.
If you’re only doing trades between yourself, what seems to be the problem here?

Doesn’t sound very user-friendly.
That guy needs a very good ban. Might want to track where the stolen gold and items went.
-snip-
“(US and UK) someone of Japanese descent (shortened version of Nipponese, from Japanese name for Japan, Nippon)”
Um, nowhere in that wiki article does it explain how Nip is offensive. The nick was probably removed cause of a close resemblance in wording to a part of human anatomy.
You don’t have to lecture me about it. I know. But bad experiences are what ruins your day.
Nip is an racial insult for Japanese people
Proof please.
I don’t believe you.
Also no Japanese person would find that offensive, however would find it hilarious that you’d try with such a lame insult.
File your ticket and get him banned.
Looks like your girlfriend hit you hard. Maybe it’s a good lesson to you to not share your account details with anyone.
Welcome back to the game, again. XD
Well that’s a slap to the face. I know it’s probably ban in error, but getting banned several times in error can look bad, and people talk. Even with that said, a few people banned in error is a lot better than a ton of bots running all over the place.
Why do you need to swear for?
You have alternatives to express frustrations.
Great to see everything be resolved.
Welcome back to the game!
1 button for 1 action. But I doubt they’d ban if you made the button take a screenshot every 30 seconds automatically. Cause otherwise they’d have to also ban the people who record videos of the game under the same logic. And the reason behind it all is, are you getting an unfair advantage over somebody else?
Nothing personal, but people always say that and probably 90% of the time it was indeed something offensive. No, you don’t have to reveal the name, but we can’t tell you if it violates the naming policy or not without seeing it.
If he tells it here and customer support later takes it off the list of offensive names, somebody else might take it. Best to just let customer support handle it.
What’s the point of this thread if the OP has already made a support ticket? If there is a problem of no response after 3 days, post in the sticky thread. What else can be done really?
Who knows? Maybe he was hacked and the hacker moved him. He probably requested assistance to get back and it was granted. Who knows?
I know jokes, they tend to be funny and make people laugh. Sadly somebody didn’t laugh with what you call a joke, and reported the offensive language.
Let’s put it this way, putting offensive language into any context doesn’t justify using it. Don’t do it!
I noticed the OP was talking about how he spends money based on the perceived quality of the company or staff running the game. I however have a more realistic and different approach. I want something? Well I buy it. If it’s not worth buying, I don’t buy it. That’s it! Also you should really check your gears before buying, maybe this experience will teach you to do that, and stop rushing.
Why do people lose their serial code? I got it saved on 2 computers, and 2 physical locations in real life. O _O
Trying several times doesn’t mean that several times Anet customer support reviewed the case, or reviewed with any great detail. Anyways, post up the ticket number here, you probably need a senior staff to investigate this.
It’s service like that which earns the company loyalty points with the player base.
Maybe they consider a 3 day ban to be the right medicine, especially since a lot of people these days consider nothing wrong at all with using colorful language. People fear losing important things when they are taken away, after all, people appreciate things the most when they are gone.
Muting people is a new mechanic? Funny.
Actually harbinger, these days the people who get hacked actually have really good passwords like yours. We’ve been brought up to use strong passwords. Hackers know this. Also a firewall and anti-virus program won’t stop anything when people use mods for a game. The person will actually allow the keylogger if it means using what they want. Hackers also put spyware into mirror downloads for things normally clean and legal to use. You can obviously tell when it’s a person who posts on a website saying they found this great program and are sharing it with a download link that they provided. Others go to bigger lengths to lure you in. But yeah, the bottom line is, hackers do it for money.

I think the 2nd offense is a week. Is the 3rd a month? That’s quite a lot for a mere swear word or something minor. But, I don’t make the rules, but I can try to avoid breaking them as a user. Just hope nothing I say gets interpreted badly. Kinda makes you only want to talk to friends out of game.
Anyways, usual ways people get into your account is with you downloading modifications, signing up to 3rd party gaming websites, a 3rd party website or gaming company who got their database stolen, which is why you don’t use the same password everywhere, commonly used passwords don’t work on GW2 anymore due to them being blocked so that’s not it, or they stole your email and use whatever information there to try and obtain your account. Fun fact is, hackers are not soothsayers. They have to get the details somewhere. Why do they bother doing this? Cause they can turn those items into real money. It’s a business to them. Funny enough it’s sometimes the people who got hacked who come crawling to the RMT peeps to buy gold back to get what they lost.
They also dont care bout things said in party-chat and guildchat
So you can swear like a drunk sailor in party and guild chat, but not anywhere else GW2 or Anet related? Um, can I have source material or something that proves this please? I want to believe it.
I have played online games for over 15 years. I have yet to have a single one of my accounts “hacked” so clearly it is very possible to avoid being “hacked”.
The thing is, all these “hackings” are not hackings at all. They are either using a weak password, using the same password everywhere, having a keylogger, sharing account details or simply getting tricked into pressing a harmful link in an email (which is btw warned about on this very forum)
There are also plenty of other people who have never been hacked up until playing GW2. Fun fact is, hackers have gotten better at their game.
You didn’t win a cookie for defending your honor, you won a ban. Basic truth, don’t feed the trolls.

Are you sure it’s keeping that data on the drive?
At least it was reinstated pretty quickly.
Welcome back to the game.
Gaile Gray once again being awesome.
For balance’s sake: I’m a woman and I don’t find it offensive.
Same here. You would think people would be mature enough to not fuss over that kind of thing, but sadly Anet must cater to all types of people.
All he’d have to do is tell his situation to Anet customer support. Try not to use so many words to describe what happened, cause that’s how you get tl;dr on your ticket.
Yeah but Zaxares, some people report you for language even if you smacked your toe when returning to the computer and expressed your discomfort in colorful language. And the reason why that ban happens is, it’s against the rules.
I always treat transactions as serious business. I also never assume and don’t rely on 2nd hand information.
I’m not assuming the guild leader is guilty, but I’m also not assuming he’s innocent. I don’t know one way or another, and the op might not know either. It’s for ArenaNet and the suspended/banned player to determine.
There’s a middle fence? A grey zone? But that’s not what this thread is about. It’s not about guilty or innocence, it’s about the fact that the same people are getting flagged and banned, later unbanned, over and over. It doesn’t inspire confidence in the system now does it? This is the issue at hand.
But it definitely is against the naming policy.
Turning swear filters off doesn’t mean you get a free pass to go against the rules. I hope this lesson teaches you that. Besides, it’s not like we need to use those words to communicate frustrations anyways, right?
You say that but it’s not always true. My friend and guild mate recently got banned for sending 10g to another guild mate who needed it. He got banned for gold selling even though this wasn’t true. He appealed but was rejected and thus his account stayed banned. So yeah, it seems we do have to worry about getting banned for things we didn’t know were wrong.
That sounds extremely unlikely.
Especially since there are people that have sent close to 100g between accounts and haven’t got banned and those that have had been unbanned after contacting support.
Not meaning to create a quote pyramid here, but I have to also agree. Unless the person ran into a corrupt CS that is only doing bare min to get paid, which would soon be detected and weeded out (not accusing anybody here), or the appeal that was made was done incorrectly by the person banned, not the customer support’s fault, then I highly doubt that after a failed appeal that the person is still innocent. Considering that Anet support don’t ban based on simple gold trades, they ban on more than that, staying banned after an appeal is pretty much final there.
You probably should talk to customer support about that.
They have stated pretty clearly that restorations are only done in the case of an account being hacked.
They did state as well that there is an exception to the rule of only once. They will allow another restoration, but the criteria for allowing a 2nd restoration was more strict. Basically account restoration takes up resources and time, so if you get hacked, restored, then hacked a few days later, they did their part already in helping you, but you let it happen again anyways. But if you got hacked, restored, 3 years later hacked again, they ain’t going to be a bunch of meanies and say no.
Well the thing is, every single ticket I have sent was totally read and replied to in a manner that shows that it was in fact read by a human. And the reason for that is, I got straight to my point, and I made the text easy to read and grasp in a short period of time. Thus every time, my issue was resolved in the manner that I desired. I can only express my experience.
