these forums are what is wrong with the mesmer community. so many people just say things with no facts at all.. "after patch a condi mesmer can hold a point without stalth
blah blah blah..

stop blindly listening to every word helseth says. im guessing the main reason he wants you to focus on the torment buff is because he dosent want you to focus on the IE buff that benefits his build. if you put up 3 scepter clones and 3 staff clones with ie you are thinking the scepter clones will be the top damage, seems very unlikely to me.

Prepare to have you mind blow mesmer holding points in Soloq https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tY8Y7pvQQuA

lolz wp’d but knowing how people are on here, they will probably say it’s not ToL or Team Arena so it doesn’t count!

Edit – also not a condi mesmer but still holds point well.

not sure why so many psychic tears are shed. play the actual buff before you start crying about it and stop being such a drama queen with so little info.

Play the buff and see how bad of a decision it is and and get stuck with it for 6 months. It’s silly because scepter didn’t really need it, nor does it throw this up into Competitive play.

play the actualy patch before you start crying about things.. stop trying to guess that you know things you do not.. it may not have that much of an impact. im not sure how people jump so quickly to tears before play testing.. this is why we need a test server.. so you can get all your tears out early.. and get over it.

Lol

With the frequency of Balance Patches (one every 6 months), all we’re trying to do is preventing a toxic, unnecessary and brainless change to pass through.

The devs want to hear our feedback.
If this wasn’t the case, mesmers would still be complaining about Deceptive Evasion not generating more clones after the third one.

Think before posting, lad.

^ The reason why people don’t want to wait for the patch. No one is going to want to deal with this obviously bad and unneeded decision for the next 6 months aka half a year. Better to try and prevent it from being implemented, rather then trying it and if it was a bad decision, being stuck with it until next balance patch time. In that span of time that’s all you’re going to see being played as far as WvW roaming goes and 1vX’s.

Sethren, the game does and should revolve around PVP.

No, it doesn’t, and no, it shouldn’t. You could not be more wrong. You do not decide what the game revolves around just because you play it. Therefore, devs should not focus on balancing things related strictly PVP because the entirety of GW2 “revolves around PVP.”

profession skill balances have always been focused around 5 vs 5 conquest mode since launch.

to disagree with that is simply being in denial.

the mesmer changes are fine.
people are merely overreacting as they have always.

It certainly is not fine, basically a powerful Ranged AA Condition(torment) that can be given to clones, That punishes you with more damage for moving, mixed with clone death trait which also punishes you for killing or being near clones. Confusion which punishes you for pressing any button, and other damaging conditions like burns, bleed, poison and impairment conditions. Cleansing is not going to do anything against a build like this, even if you manage all your removals well there’s nothing you can do against this. Here’s a video of what it is to deal with Condi PU mesmer, now feature in torment. Do you really think a build like that needs Torment on AA?

http://youtu.be/-W3RVKGoih8?t=6m55s

Do u guys really tried clone death trait ?
PU mesmer damage is low right now and lack of aoe pressure .after patch it will have more damage but if a condition mesmer really want to kill someone like necro or engi does then he might drop pu for some actually damage trait and change torch to pistol or iwarden(if anet really fixed it this time ). Also why u need a condition mesmer while an engi could do better condition pressure? are we talking about tpvp ?
if its wvw then as usual , run away from pu just like it as healing shout waror tank d/d ele etc .
It is cheese mode tho but not effective like necro ,ranger or war’s builds. In the end i hope anet could give us more effective fun and skillful builds to play with .But balance wise, nothing wrong with current pu. low risk/med reward seems ok to me .

If you want to keep torment on AA and keep it reasonable give Clone death traits a ICD and remove it from procing on creating new clones. Unlike Necro, Ranger, and Warrior, those classes can’t consistently go invis gain aegis and passively roll around to inflict damaging conditions and impairment conditions. That’s as far as I can see making it reasonable. Especially since the clone death traits are adept traits.

Condi Mesmer, Master of Torment

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Lucentfir.7430

Lucentfir.7430

I remember when it was first introduced as a condition for necros, yet despite this (and overlooking the fact that Tainted Shackles applies AOE torment, on a longer cool down, rather than single target), mesmers will now have much better access to Torment than necros, through weapon skills and traits.

We Mesmers are holding your Torment hostage contingent upon the return of our Confusion which was stolen by every other profession in the game… I do find it funny how the signature conditions of certain professions seem to get diluted to the point where they are done better by almost everyone else.

On a serious note, I do wonder how this is going to pan out, I don’t want a Dhuumfire debacle for Mesmer. That didn’t work out so well for Necros in the long run.

Eh, at least Necros still have the best Fear access. Everyone else that gets it only has one skill (though those skills do have longer durations).

Truthfully, the damage on the scepter auto isn’t going to be that problematic. Even with 3 clones going, it’s only going to hit about 6 stacks of Torment. With +100% Torment duration, that still caps out at the equivalent of 18 stacks of bleed while moving. The investment that it takes to get doubled Torment duration can net you so much more damage.

Factor in, some forms of confusion, bleeds, poison, and burn from torch. What really can you do against this? After condi removal is used up what can you really do against this person? Run away and not fight is the only solution. So unless you have 2-3+ people on your side don’t bother. The damage with this change is going to shoot damage up a lot.

The change to Main the Disillusioned is fine, probably still not worth doing a condi shatter build though because Cry of Frustration isn’t good enough.

I am concerned with the change to scepter AA though. I suppose the attack chain is slow and easy to kite, but still, could we not have had something more interesting?

Scepter AA’s are homing so unless you’re out of range or block/refect you’re going to get hit by it, and the scepter clones themselves will also apply torment.

My question: why was yet more Torment given to Mesmer when the condition was designed for Necros?

I was more referring to the scepter buff which is going to lead to hordes of mindless condi PU mesmers. I have no problems with the buff to Maim the Disillusioned.

  • is in the middle of watching the Ready Up due to just having gotten home from work *
Ah, yeah, if that’s where the buff was, fine. That trait was weaksauce upon introduction.

Just like P/D thieves in WvW be prepared to see a huge influx of PU condi mesmers (Solo roaming), and be prepared to never fight these guys, unless you want to get frustrated with a pretty elusive tanky mesmer(Aegis protection and regen) that stealths a majority of the time, dodge rolling to proc clone on death trait. On top of that torment on AA is really silly. The trait buff though is nice and I have no problem with that trait getting more duration, since it’s actually skill based and you have to shatter and hit to get the reward. By taking the trait you either lose DE, or PU. :/

Exhaustive trait feedback

I agree with a majority of what you posted, however there are two notable ones I will touch up on where I disagree. Torch, is pretty good, not better than Focus in PVE setting but it’s a fine Off-hand for PvP environment. 4 is burn(That give you good application for 10% damage on burning foes) and the second activation for torch is easily a ranged nuke that can easily crit for 4-5k. The 5 ability is good against kiters and runners that are mid ranged and just out of yor melee combat range.

Amplified Wrath is a very good trait for power burn meditation, with carrion. Mix with sigls and you’ll easily be keeping up 750-800 burn ticks) decent direct damage, and good retal scaling.

If you’re using Ranger for solo roaming as glass snipe spec you have to have really good awareness and positioning, since pretty much anything can and will kill you, you only have stun breakers and no Condi removal unless you pack healing springs. Against thieves it’s a toss up, it helps a bit if you run “Sic’em”, and that’s usually enough to take them down unless they’re running dire gear(since Condi thieves can take a few more hits than glass zerker thief. If thief or anyone else gets too close and you’re packing GS as the second step, Hunter’s Shot for invis, GS swap, interrupt with GS5 and follow up with Maul. I’ve spiked some thieves for 10k if they were unfortunate enough to eat the hit. Terrain is another variable that makes it either in your favor or the other person’s favor, and if there’s LoS there’s not much you can do.

In WvW, the guardian’s low hp is partially mitigated due to the existence of guard stacks. Yes, everyone can get them, but because it’s a flat boost it benefits classes with low health a lot more.

Also, people have been threatening (across the boards) to reroll to warrior for the longest time but you get the same people going “reroll a warrior” repeatedly without progress. I didn’t know leveling took so long. Remember legendaries are account bound so you can move them.

Not targeted at anyone specifically. But given all the warriors I’ve seen as of late that get 1 pushed by my engie, I guess people really have been rerolling warrior— and it hasn’t helped them much. :p

It’s true, though any engi who know’s their buttons and knows how the class at least functions can beat warrior pretty easily if they’re condi speced, on the other hand burst engi is a bit riskier to play if people know you’re a burst engi.

Aside from the short readable preview on the front page. As much as feedback goes, when was the last time you’ve seen the one thing not wanted on the class taken back and not being released, based on feedback?

Because months upon months upon months of feedback wasn’t enough? There are threads on a nearly daily basis that give feedback on what to change, I host a near-weekly podcast with an hour of content on what to change, reddit has info on what to change. At some point they need to tell us their plans so we can give them feedback.

Does it really matter what info is released first? One thing about these forums is it will never be pleased. If Anet decided to throw out necro changes this week people will still whine and cry how something wasn’t buffed or they deserve more than that, or changes aren’t going to do nothing GG, Or all the changes are useless to individual belief. So does it really matter at all when changes are going to be previewed? You’ll get the preview eventually so please be patient necro players instead of preaching and spewing out comments like “How can you live with yourself Anet?” “Anet doesn’t care about necros and only care about X class more.”

I take this comment as you hate thieves, but that’s the typical mesmer lately with thief hate. If this is allowed to remain then i see no reason why blinding powder shouldn’t be the same way. It’d be only fair if Blinding Powder and Last refuge get the same treatment as mesmer’s decoy. Since they’re both have the same CD. :> Because that’s the logic if decoy is to remain in this way, ignoring the reveal debuff because it’s a utility skill. I’m all for bug fixes for mesmer and some buffs which are probably coming either this friday’s preview or the next. Though another thing i’m starting to notice is mesmers are sounding like Warriors and Ele now whenever I gander around the forums.

Mesmer is already skimming the surface of being non-viable. Neither of those invisibilities last for any substantial time. Both are already on longish cooldowns. If you Q.Q Mesmer…. you simply can’t play.

This has nothing to do with Mesmer being viable or not, this is about Mesmer’s Decoy utility ignoring the revealed debuff. WvW wise you think it’s okay for the mesmer to stealth after tripping a stealth trap, or having some ranger use “Sic’em” (which is a 40s CD)on the mesmer only to have them stealth and lose targeting anyway? Reveal should be consistent with all stealthing abilities. Get over yourself with the Q.Q on mesmer being soooo unviable(hyperbole) in other game modes as the vast player base of mesmers state. If you’re looking for some type of sympathy here with that bolded statement, this is not the thread you’re looking for. Also please note that Skill bar for mesmer has not been set for a preview yet so hush, wait and see until then. Sheeesh..

As far as WvW goes, the top builds in roaming and dueling are Condi or hybrid builds. Zerker builds are much less forgiving compared to Condition specs which is about apply and play passively as your conditions tick on targets. WvW roaming now a days is riddled with condi engis, P/D Thieves, PU Condi mesmers. and such. I just learned to accept it.

Also as any sort of melee roaming class you’re not going to win against a PU condi clone death mesmer if they’re any sort of decent. They have to mess up big time to lose.

http://youtu.be/-W3RVKGoih8?t=6m55s – A example how a PU condi death build fairs against most melee foes. Nonetheless I just accept there are certain fights you can’t really win against shrug

Spvp on the other hand is a game mode of just point capping and team oriented play. Hot joins is just grounds to having fun and testing builds. The who game mode is entirely not about killing but scoring points for your team by capping and holding caps. Which is why Debunk engi and hambow warriors are OP here.

I do not understand not that its a bad thing if you can do it and not see a issue with jumping in and out of character then by all means do it…but I would have tons of trouble actually RPing in a game setting like GW2 cause its a game not a RP setting…there is to much around that needs to be done and no way to actually fit my character into a Scene when the scenes on every map are the same except with its living story….same champs same events whats the explanation for that RP wise? “Oh I killed it once how did it come back to life!!” I just do not understand how people RP in games. If you can cool go for it I would love to see how people do it cause it would out right blow me over. Its a game its meant to be played as it was made..playing a character in a RP in a game setting that has the same events the same champs and all could get a bit repetitive RP wise.

As far as the Megaservers go I guess I do not see the difference in now and then…..just that there are people running around that are from different servers. Does not seem to be a good or a bad thing to me. Even if I was a ‘game’ RPER its the same crap on every server to why does it matter if everyone from every server is on one place…..the place has not changed just the number of players and the idea that servers are kinda obsolete in the PVE world.

What I can gather from your post there are parts of the game world that you’r taking into the area of IC. When you RP you can just ignore certain parts such as NPC or enemies that respawn, or just hearts, quests and events in general. Read the books and use your imagination. The books give a pretty good understanding that all these zones are much much much bigger than what the game actually portrays. it takes days to get to areas that would otherwise take minutes for us. So it’s fact that the world of Tyria is vastly bigger than what we see in game. You’re setting limitations of the RP world on the game. You only lock yourself down to what the game has implemented then that’s your fault. Meanwhile there are RPers out there that make some pretty interesting plots, make their own villians(or have another RPer act as a villian). I know some RP guilds do it – including the ones i’m in.

The megaservers what it did is bunched up all the servers into one, yes, but servers lost their Identity. Tarnished Coast and Piken Square were the labled unofficial RP servers. This is where you go if you were a RPer or just wanted to be in a server with a friendly atmosphere. With the icreased ammount of players from different servers there are people who aren’t familiar with it, and decide it’s a wonderful idea to troll or grief RPers rping. Not only that but sometimes the megaservers still splits you up from guild and server into a different shard.

The Future of Role-Playing in GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lucentfir.7430

Lucentfir.7430

shakes head I still see there will be more problems staying in character such as completing a map and moving on to another map. That would throw RPing out the window. And finding a reason to go after a Vista might sound easy to you but its kinda a lame reason to say “Oh look a nice place to see a view.” its just not something I would see as fun…kinda repetitive and going after POI’s would ruin RP too. What RP reason would I have to find that many places? I would have to see how people do it…but I am not on Tarnished Coast server and never seen anyone in black gate RP they just play the game.
Usually when I get a game I just play the game its hard to believe anyone can Role Play in a game that is suppose to be played and not standing around wasting the 60 bucks RPing…if I wanted to do that I would as I said go to Second Life for the day and RP there where I am not playing a MMO. Just RPing in a 3D world.

I’ve already got my initial $60 worth of game play over two years. I’ve played most of PvE, I’ve zerged and solo roamed in WvW, and I’ve even dived into Spvp and made it to the top 100 players of Yolo Queue(Shouldn’t really matter but I have 277 Solo Queue games played and more wins over losses, I’ve played over 3.5k games in Spvp total). 15k Achivement points, A Legendary, and Weapons Crafting 500. I have over 9000 hours on the game total. With 11 Characters too boot, 10 of them fully geared and their outfits chosen and made. I’ve spent money on gems, and I’ve RP’d since near the beginning when I got the game. RP is my endgame.

Just playing the game isn’t going to get you to stick to it, I’m actually surprised how people can farm hours on end doing the same thing over and over again, wondering how they manage to just keep playing. That’s what I see when it’s playing the game only. Second life, sorry not the setting i want to RP in, nor do i like its art style. So tell me do i really have to do more “playing” of a certain way someone else expects me to or am i free to actually care about RP and how much I’ve invested in the game and actually enjoy myself in game with a certain playstyle? It would be nice to have a way to funnel RPers into a RPer shard instead of being segregated into different shards based on the Megaservers choosing of guild and server(Sometimes this doesn’t work and you still get sent to a different shard). We’d have less trolls, unless they all purposely go out of their way to do so, but from what i can tell, people are lazy, so a lot of them won’t even bother with that.

RP is more of a creative playstyle opposed to the normal “just plays the game.” Freeform RP is real RP, not the follow the PS RP. If that were the case how many commanders of the pact do we have in game total? Also regarding map completion and RP….because every RPer does map completion while they RP…..right? It’s good to use what the world of Tyria offers you, but you can’t just integrate every aspect of it into RP, some of these events are in the past, dating back to 1325 in the tyrian world. Most RP takes date in 1327 which is the present.

Step up your role playing game. You shouldn’t even be thinking that someone is griefing you. They are simply other characters playing a role. Sounds like you just need to get better at RP.

Yes they are simply in character spamming the same emote the entire time to the point it fills my IC chatbox, along with bombarding the area around me with grenades or any other mass spell effect while my character is trying to talk another in a non hostile spot.

Edit: I’m with Indigo, give us the option to kill them for dropping loads of AoE on my face :P

No idea why people keep trying to bunk Amplified Wrath into Radiance. It’s perfectly fine where it is, for Power/Burn builds, and you get power and condi duration which helps direct damage and retaliation. Not to mention it the added condition duration and mixed with Runes help stack it for some lengthy burns on.

@Archon Wing – Regarding Force of Will, the idea of Force of Will was to have something selfish in the line for a grandmaster. If you look at the other two grandmasters they’re both support based. I also used Focused mastery sometimes with my Amplified Wrath build. It’s easy to pick up and pretty nice to have the lower CD of SoW and Ray of judgement.

THey really need to buff Radiant Retaliation, because it isn’t worth using at all even in full condition stats.

The current longbow can wreck face and get 3-4k auto attacks and is borderline abusive with some clever positioning.

The new longbow is, quite frankly, scary.

+1 lost almost 3/4 of my health in like 2secs from glassy rangers rapid fire and thats was with 3k armor 24k health.

Edit: I was in wvw.

So now people are straight up lying about what Rangers can currently do. You people are ridiculous.

3/4 of a 24k health pool is 18k health. You’re saying that a Ranger’s rapid fire took EIGHTEEN THOUSAND HP off a 3k armor build in 2 seconds?

First of all, a Ranger’s rapid fire hits on average up to 10-11k on a standard zerk build if there are a good number of crits in there. This can potentially be boosted to around 14-15k if might-stacked from other players and other power buffs and assuming most attacks crit. And this only on total glass players.

Second of all, Rapid fire has a 5 second cast time, so I’m not sure where you pulled that 2 second figure from (though I have a very good idea…). And finally, most players dodge during a Ranger’s rapid fire, which makes almost half the shots miss.

You are simply proving the point I made in my original post.

In Spvp I’ve seen experienced rangers running zerker longbow, position is key, and most I’ve fought most of the time used quickness which made me eat crapton of damage.

I love the idea of doors bleeding :P, Burning makes sense on doors and structures, and for certain that doors can be poisoned….Tormenting the door by continously bashing it till it submits and opens, and to confuse a door….perhaps it’ll open when it decides to act……xD

To be honest only burning should work on structures, since it makes the most sense but alas we have robutts and earth elementals that bleed.

Nah he didn’t rise up where Omadd’s machine is. That’s the new area we’ll be going to. You can check it out the new area by doing a little jumping puzzle.

I’m pretty sure it’s where Omadd’s machine is look at it. The new area does not have anything with blue barrs on it.

Veteran Mordrem Wolf (Leave no Survivors)

Lucentfir.7430

The ridiculous damage of the wolf just needs to go. For some reason they get this idea that pumping up the damage so high that you have to use terrain exploits or reconsider your entire build for just one fight is a good idea, or creates compelling gameplay. It does not, and this is why I just get frustrated with GW2 every time I log in after not logging in for months.

No there needs to be more mobs like this. So it isn’t just brain dead auto attack and faceroll. All the mordem mobs are very well designed in the challenging aspect, well a big improvement on what we usually get.

there needs to be more mobs with extremely high health pools and double perma retaliation, with a higher than normal defense that does a lot of damage.
what in the living hell are you on? the only wolves that should ever be created are regular wolves that don’t upscale.
you remember the champion karka with the 785 retal damage? try fighting one that has 785 retal permanently stuck to him then another that constantly gets reapplied and tell me how fun that is.

the only mob that has a worse design than the vet+ wolves are the thresher maws that spit torment everywhere and are virtually immune to damage while their attacking which takes them far away from you so you can’t hit them unless you’re full ranged.
CCing them works unless it’s the champ version then good luck with that.

This one doesn’t have perma retaliation like a karka does. there’s a clear tell (howl) when it gets its retaliation. Depending on the class you play a single boon strip will rid of retaliation. It’s a veteran after all so it’s going to have more health then the normal Mordem wolves. Also lol I have a thief and if the wolf did not have retaliation I could just D/P, BP for perma-blind and AA it to death.

Thrashers are surprising at first but after your first few encounters they’re pretty easy to manage. Thrasher roots itself into the ground melee time. It’s spinning around and leaving a trail of acid(Torment)? Range it and hit it from behind, or what I love to do with my necro is stand in it til it has a high stack and transfer. Red pool which is obviously life steal? Don’t stand in it> Also to enlighten you when it’s spinning make sure you’re attacking in the direction where it’s going because it’s not invulnerable at the back. Fact is all these mordem mobs are well designed with a challenging aspect something you can’t just face roll and move on like normal mobs you’ve got to use your noggin and watch what you do.

785 Retal damage? Do you think it’s because it’s scaled with the number of players and it’s a champion maybe? I’ve seen a warrior on youtube solo the champion karka in the hive where you get the orichalcum ore.

To have a easier time a lot of people ignore scruffy and say he’s useless but neglect the fact he gives long durations of Protection, so set him to defend mode. Aside from that just play well and keep a eye on your health for when it howls. The retaliation hurts after a few moments of attack.

Make Heavy vs Light Armor more Different

Question, what if the profession that’s heavy armor by default is wearing something that isn’t plated heavy armor?(Exo Pit Fighters/karma Pit Fighters/Braham’s armor). You’re comparing a different game with a different gameplay. This would mean you would have to go back and redo the entire armor system in order to and change the entire defense aspect based on appearance or material of the armor which would be a huge pain. It would also be annoying to balance.

The only problem I found with transmutation system is that those below level 80 have to use up a transmutation stone for a piece of gear.

I cannot find the PvE game any fun because of it. I have to stare at my ugly armor because I will outlevel the gear really soon anyways.

Charging for over level 80 characters is fine.

That is why outfits exist now. You won’t have to stare at them in lowbie aromor as you level :P. Though seriously….current wardrob was the best change fore me. No longer do I have to worry about destroying sets of armor for the look. Well there are RPers that would really love the feature. Not everyone likes to pull the afk in old Lion’s Arch. Atm your character in the story might as well be a bum. The home instance for each race, doesn’t really feel like home at all. Just a place you use for your PS, or daily collection of Sprokets quartz and other nodes you’ve got through gem store.
