Nostalgy
Err…..
I still cannot get this!!! I always end up playing the GW2 Main Theme errrrr!!!!!!!!!!
Poor Factions. Even though not a lot of people liked you, you are my favorite game (even above Prophecies) and I will keep trying!!!

This is a HUGE HUGE HUGE buff to my very gimmicky and awful interrupt build that centered around Imbued Diversion.
I already have the traits settled out previous to these “patch notes” because I thought Imbued Diversion was a hidden treasure trove and built a mass interrupt build.
That is, if the patch notes are real

We are aware of this issue and have a team looking into it.
Thank you to all that have posted!
I’m not going to “yay!” or “thank” you. (I know that sounds horribly mean….)
This is just a precursor to ….
“Oh sorry! I know we are a little late (3 months late) but this is working as intended so…. bye!”
I literally lost hope of Mesmer bug fixing right after John posted that absolute garbage in the “Did phantasmal berserker get fixed this patch” thread.

Everything (no j/k)
I feel more like a mesmer when I play my Necro, but I main mesmer just for namesake and this “Illusionist” rep is starting to grow on me.
I do play GW1 from time to time because I miss the class so much. (Sadly only play FA now during the bonus weeks)
They could rename this class the “Illusionist” and make the real mesmer class “Mesmer” but that’s to much work, and I do not want to have to restart a new character.

I know NC gets the money but I just have this deep grudge for them.
CoH was my very first MMO (played GW shortly after like 1 month after my first CoH subscription ended) and they ended it.
I also played that blackhole known as “Aion”. I wasted 2~3 years of my.life trying to get BiS gear and getting it 8 months later if I’m lucky.
Although I have no one to blame but myself for Aion… Those are years I could have spent cherishing my time with GW1

I’d LOVE tattoos, not just for norn!!
Human tattoos would be great
I wouldn’t mind sylvari either, same with asura (but it would be pretty small)
Only problem is that charr can opt for “tiger stripes” and norn already have tattoos.
I love tattoos because I would like to get one in real life but my.job and circumstances “prohibit” and discourage it. (but lets face it, I wouldn’t really like someone working in a hospital wearing tattoos either!)

Funny story,
I was on a HIGH cliff watching a battle and I spot a guardian behind me. I knew he was probably gonna knock me off with hammer, so I jumped off intentionally without having life force or spectral walk active. My first though was that , DS will save me!!
Then I saw red message “Not enough Life Force”
I laughed at my fail and the guardian was probably like " did they just kill themselves???"

Am I the only one that will throw down both portals in combat lol?
You can use portals to teleport back and forth in combat thus dodging attacks without actually needing to use endurance, in sPvP this helps with the confusion when you have clones running around especially if you stealth (make them think you used the portal).
In PvE it’s useful in a lot of bosses by dodging without really dodging, however in PvE it’s not as useful for melee as it is for ranged, which as a lot of people know, isn’t really the “meta” atm. That being said if you run dungeons for fun instead of speed runs then it’s still useful xD
I used to do this a long time ago when portal was ~30s. Funny how I used it more as a solo person than a group oriented Mesmer when it was on a low CD.
I remember popping portals near a good hidy hole while taking out some enemies, and when the enemy zerg walked over, I would pop it.
Sadly, I’m discouraged to use it now, with that high CD (untraited/traited even)

I definitely agree with most of the GW1 vets around in this thread.
They stated that “We’ll take everything you love about Guild Wars and make it better!”, when in-fact, I’ve seen only 3(?) ish improvements.
Good things in GW2 over GW (These got pulled out of my head) :
Trading Post (This was a big step ahead)
I like how there is no trinity sometimes
Gems -> Gold / Gold -> Gems
GW over GW2: (and this is gonna be a LONG list)
~ Build Diversity & Huge amount of skills. Yes, some builds and skills were utterly useless. We saw that in GW, and we know some builds will be imbalanced. But how many useless traits/utilites and even elites can you can in GW2? I can count A LOT. I know skills like gw1: Pacifism were immensely useless. I can say the same for the gw2 Necromancer’s “Deathly Invigoration” too.
~ Strategic Play. Do I even need to explain this? In GW, you would see Monks predicting Mesmer Diversions and interrupts. You would see it the opposite side too, Mesmers predicting vital skills to effectively shut down a team mate. It got to the point that, when you know you will be interrupted/punished, you would cancel it out. It’s not easy to cancel a Word of Healing that’s procced you’re 40/40 set when you just got Diversion mid-cast. Frontliners/Mid were also, not #1 spamming. You could see Necromancers actively supporting the group with skills like Enfeeble and Faintheartedness, Warriors quarter knocking foes, Elementalists splitting off from the group to fight NPC’s.
~ No “cash shop” RNG Boxes. I know for a fact that there are a number of RNG boxes in GW1. Royal Gifts, Gifts of the Traveler, Imperial Lockboxes to name a few. But they were never ever through a “cash shop” system. Yeah the Gift of the Traveler had unique skins, but unlike these horrific “tickets” in GW2, they dropped pretty often. Most of the skins were available near the end of (x) content such has Imperial Weapons, Oppressor Weapons (which we’re pretty cool looking).
~Armor Sets. In GW2, it seems they think every leather wearer is a gw1 Ranger. Thieves, the spiritual successor of Assassins, wear trench coats, and not the expected “gear” from their predecessors. Light Armor suddenly all transformed to Elementalist armor. Female light armor is 80-90% revealing. Male Light Armor suddenly uses Mage like gear. Since when did Mesmers where such revealing clothing (except for Enchanter/Elite Enchanter)? When did Necromancers become you’re down the street escort? Same goes for Male Light armor too. Name one Male mesmer armor where they had a skirt.
~ Punishing. Seriously, this GW2 Mesmer is NOT the GW Mesmer I know. The GW Mesmer (and Necromancer, even Ranger) are almost radically different from their sequel counterparts. GW2 Necro; poorly done Minion Master, “Wellomancer”, … GW1 Necro; Utilizes curses for negative effects, Blood Magic for spiking/support/pressure, Death Magic for spiking/useful minions. GW2 Mesmer; a simple illusionists. GW1 Mesmer; Domination Magic for heavy punishment, Illusion for pressure/support, Inspiration as a utility line to help with survivability, energy denial and interrupts to hamper enemies. GW2 Ranger: A swordsman(/woman)/archer with a (somewhat controversial) pet. GW1 Ranger: Marskmanship for damage, Nature Rituals having an effect on everyone, optional pet (a.k.a. the Beastmaster) and excellent survivability with interrupts.
I could go on and on but I won’t.
TL;DR, I only play GW2 because it has the words “Guild Wars” in it. If they happened to call it some other thing, then I would’ve quit a long time ago.

From a 3D character artist’s standpoint I can tell you this: most game engines use a network of joints that don’t contain IK Handles and are controlled ever so slightly via code which connects them to sliders. These joints, when moved, act as facial “muscles” and contort the face any which way the sliders will let you. From this standpoint, I’d assume that the 3D character artists at ArenaNet didn’t include joints in the mouth facial controls as to not interfere with the voice acting/lip syncing. The color of your eyebrows is connected to your hair because of what is probably a 3-channel dynamic texture map that uses one channel on the skin, one on the hair/eyebrows and one on the eyes since I assume due to resource packet control your client derives all of its textures for each character from one 1024×1024 diffuse map instead of far more resources which would further soak up ANet’s bandwidth. In my experience when you have a RGBA dynamic texture map you’re only allowed 3 customizable color areas and the alpha as transparency, which is most obviously seen in the hair polygons.
So there you have it. A very technical professional assumption of how ArenaNet’s character rigs interact with their homemade game engine.
A very complicated answer but a good read!!
The only thing I don’t understand is that eyebrow does not change color if you change hair color.

The win/lose thing can be rather situational. If he is or you are defending something and you run away, then yes you lost because he achieves his goal. But if you’re attacking a person and you run away you didn’t lose, it’s more of a stalemate (because no one died). In either case it’s less of a loss than dying because you’re not giving loot, repairing and having to run back, or in the case of pvp (where thieves are weak anyway) you’re not giving the enemy team points for your death.
Sure the thief didn’t win, but he’s still better off than dead and the player he fought against often receives no reward, so in his perspective he didn’t ‘win’.
You also have to remember that most people don’t run away for good. They just run out, lose aggro for hp to heal to reset the fight and try again in order to hold something up or harass players.
All of this doesn’t necessarily apply just to thieves btw, they just happen to be the best at doing it.
In the end though, you should probably be trying to do something, so them running is good; just not as good as them dying.
You have a point there.
I guess I’m looking at it in a bigger picture. (Theoretically) if a yak does get in SM/Tower/Keep, the enemy has more supply. More supply = better defenses. Although, we would have to factor in randoms taking supply to repair a wall that is constantly being trebbed.
Also, when I know I can’t win, or have attempted an attack and lost, I won’t come back. I don’t mind giving them loot. It’s just I’m wayyyyy to lazy to run back from a Waypoint. In my mind, they won, I lost, I’ll stop hitting them.

hi
The profanity filter is a little picky on the words
e.g.
hakitten = h…..@….s….. hit
In a sentence used :
The flying in this game hakitten rock bottom!
The flying in this game h….a…..s……. hit rock bottom!
EDIT ~ Oh, I understand. Sadly there is a hidden swear word on it.
I guess the only solution is to some how avoid it like I did on top.

Please, you’ve broken enough of the mesmer:
You’ve broken iZerker
Illusionary Leap horribly untrustful
Temporal Curtain does not give extra swiftness (even if you only have 1 sec of it left)
Deceptive Evasion can target (and kill) useless ambient animals like Rabbits
Clones don’t have Offhands (One of the oldest bugs I’ve seen)
Clones don’t have weapons underwater
Signet of Illusions can range from 10s to 1s to take effect (3~1s is lucky)
Gutted Confusion and it’s respective mesmer traits (in WvW)
Clones are not affected by Illusionary Elasticity (the staff ones)
__________
Yet, I can handle all of this, because I know some classes are in a worse position.
But this is just another nail in the coffin. As of right now, while having a fun 1v1 in WvW, my Winds of Chaos h-a-….s….. hit a Veteran Oakheart. Not only that, but the 3 stacks of might meant for allies now goes to the clone that is summoned by Mirror Blade
Edit~ why is “h @…… $……………. hit” considered profanity?

hi!
I know this is mostly a human/norn~ish problem, but…
could you give us the ability to change our Facial Hair (Beards/Stubble) and Eyebrow color (for Humans, it is stuck as dark brown hair) separately?
Like for example:
Human with Brown Hair, Blonde~ish eye brows, Light colored stubble
Also, can we toggle our smile just a tiny bit? There this one Human face I like, but it has an automatic smile that I’d like to just get rid of. Maybe add a slider that allows us a small change in Frown/Smile?
I don’t want a full on control of the smile (e.g. I don’t want to see people smiling constantly)
As of right now, all Human characters have natural dark brown hair (all of their eyebrows are naturally dark brown)
I’m usually typing on my phone
I know this is mostly an issue with Humans, but does anyone know why we cannot change the color of our eyebrows and edit our smile a little bit?
There are some faces where a smile is automatically put in there.
I think Norn have this problem, too.
Anyway, does anyone know any solutions of this?

And they shouldn’t be able to, they got their strengths and weaknesses, we got ours. If it’s just a matter of feeling cool, if the Thief has to run away because ya beat her down to almost nothing, you still won.
Win is subjective. In fact, if the thief manage to run away:
1. He isn’t locked to respawn time to be useful again to his team. He would probably run to another node in tPvP/sPvP or he can just wait to re-engage with more manpower.
2. He doesn’t give you badges and he doesn’t have to pay the repair costs in WvWvW.I can’t really see how this can be considered a win. Psychological win, maybe?
To my point of view, Thief won.
Actually the Jack of Tears/Incurafy is right, you do win.
Take for example, I was using my thief to snipe supply Yaks so they don’t go in SM (roughly 2 hours ago).
A single player ,that guards their yak, is decently geared (a.k.a. no greens/blues) and knows what their doing can get their yak to SM safely.
If the thief does in turn retreat, they get their supply to SM and are able to use it for siege/repairs.
That is a win to them, and a lose to me.

It took me a while, but here is a better explanation with an image.
The illusionary berserker uses an animation similar to warrior greatsword #3 where they spin and move while creating attacks. The attacks are circles (shown as pentagons in my image) that are created at frames in the animation. In this image I highlight the position of all 4 attacks. What this means is that based on the relative position of a iZerker to their target, and based on the targets motion it can hit between 0 and 4 times. The damage number listed in the skill fact is based on all 4 hits connecting as shown by the 4x next to the damage #. With a static target this is possible but extraordinarily unlikely. The movement is meant to help this attack hit moving targets, which is its primary purpose as a skill which reduces movement speed.
In this particular series of screenshots, 3 of the strikes (#2, #3, and #4 ) overlapped the target golem, but as is known in the bug only 1 damage floater was displayed. I am able to examine the golem health before and after and it takes 3 strikes worth of damage but again the visual damage floater is not appearing. We do not know why this floater is sometimes not appearing but because it is a visual bug only we have prioritized other fixes over it while we try to figure out the root cause of this issue. In the meantime, I hope this image shows more clearly how this attack works and what the real bug here is.
Here is the image: http://imgur.com/idkTMrl
Note: the 3rd attack is visually present in two of the images because of the timing of my screenshot.
I’m sorry but this is 100% pure Bullkkkkr@p…
I have, from time and time, trapped enemies to a wall and used iZerker on them (“STRATEGICALLY” LOL).
The damage would take away only a few chips of their HP, and most of the time, results in a poor 2.~2.5k damage (with crits!)
It was better not to have typed anything, than to have typed this horrific excuse.
EDIT: Yes, that 2-2.5k damage is with crits, Berserker gear (+ Ruby Orbs) and Illusion damage traits

I disagree with many of the changes from GW1 to GW2, but this is one that I really like.
Energy was necessary in GW1 because of strategic play. GW2 is no where are strategic as GW1. Mesmers (yes the real Mesmers, not this illusion crap) used energy denial and interrupts to efficiently shutdown certain proffesions. When you are interrupted, you still lost (x) energy from the skill you casted. If you were interrupted while casting Meteor Shower with Power Leak, then say “buh bye energy!!!” There are other spells that utilize energy denial such as Ether Phantom, Guilt, Shame, Drain Delusions etc….
When they are done draining you’re energy, they can put degeneration/Wastrel’s (x) to punish you even more.
Also, don’t forget, some stances/other skills also used energy.
@ Ashen, no you are wrong. Energy did limit people. Do you remember 15/15 energy sets with -1 energy degeneration? Most casters used a weapon slot to use that. Some proffesions even brought skills (which means -1 skill to the skill bar) to ease energy. Remember Glyph of Lesser Energy? Aususpicous Incantation? Channeling? I can tell you that most of the HA/HoH matches I’ve seen had a Monk using Channeling (around 3/5 times I see it in matches). Do you know what Monks do when they have Shame on them? They cancel their spell, because Shame (or Guilt, if you’re an offensive caster) can utterly destroy you.
Energy isn’t necessary here (and yes, I think it was needed in GW1, just not here in GW2).
This game isn’t (and probably will never be) as strategic as it was in GW1
I’m glad they don’t have energy here either, because if they did, they would have put in “Mana potions”, and that is a big no-no to me.

What a twist it would be if nightmare court are the good guys and the dream and the central Tree is a Dragon. Proof is in that all Sylvari are connected to the tree share a hive mind like the dragons. Nightmare courts recruiting statement “The Dream is a lye” which most dreams are. Proof is the world is a nightmare with dragons rising in retrospect the current reality is a nighmare. Though the leader trying to kill glint is a define contradiction to this theory. additional proof Sylvari are spawned by the tree like the dragon minions from the dragons. All this is subjective and has no supporting proof in lore.
If the dream is a “lye” than we just put in Hydrochloric acid to neutralize it! :p
jokes aside, I don’t think they are with the Dragons at all.
I think (and hope) that they are just the “bad guys” for Sylvari much like centaurs/bandits are for humans and flame legion is for charr.

Rabid gives toughness, so does the runes (I think) and with points in Death Magic, you could have some pretty high toughness. The last effect with undead rune is that it converts toughness for condition damage by 5% (like a trait)

I guess by gathering the required materials, with the right gift/precursor to indicate which legendary you want, Zommoros (a djinn) uses his “mystic” powers to craft a legendary.
Djinns never has this power in GW1 though, but so many things have already been retconned so it doesn’t matter anyway.

Blurred frenzy offers good (somewhat spammable) defense and damage all together. Sword auto attack (+clones) offer vulnerability and boon rips
