im with him. I see my Mesmer as a high born, bad kitten ready to kill. Sadly he cant walk into the forest as a Ranger may snipe him. He doesnt go out at night in fear of backstabs. Warriors are currently on steroids so we stay away from the bar. Engis experiment with those condition stacks so the shop, no go. Obviously, we dont do funerals, Necros are there. Pretty much I just leave my Keep to boss around some elementalist and then rush back home
Why do any of that when you could just send lol clones to do it for you?

What if the minstrel had wanted to ‘’take" Anise’s position? After all, he -WAS- replaced by the Mesmer profession,

please do not make her a villain!
I think she just wants Logan to be less clingy to Jennah.
After all it is the job of the Shining Blade to protect the monarch not the seraphs job.
Logan is a good character. He just needs to be put his “place” a bit.
Anise had met my character at launch! And she was probably the picture of a “perfect” Mesmer look!
If anyone is villainous it’s the Minstrel (not the legendary, the NPC )

I’ve played Guild Wars only the couple “I need help with a dungeon tactic real quick” and have only used GW wiki my whole playtime. No guides, no forums to help.
Then went to Aion for a bit. I can tell you right now, there are almost no guides to do anything. It was either through experiences, word of mouth , or forums. And even them first hand experience was the “best” . Ever try Dark Poeta or Dragon Lord’s Sanctuary with no prior knowledge? Yeah, it’s hard. Also, the patch notes were kind of vague at times
Finally GW2 comes out and Fansites post great guides to content. This is great for me. I can actually get those annoying “find Kite basket/x and get 5 pts. Of achievement.” And enjoy the other part of the * temporary* content that I actually enjoy (and not really use much guidance on) like Invasions, Sanctum ] sprint, Aspect Arena
Also, the quicker I get done with some Achievements, The more wvw time I get

How about an “underWorld” set now?
GS: Eternal Blade

Shortbow: Eternal Bow
shield: eternal Shield
Axe: Chaos Axe
Scepter, Sword, warhorn, focus, spear, trident , pistol and Rifle, Harpoon gun Could be new skins unless someone else can remember “ghostly/Underworld” weapons from GW 1

Some of us (me) are nitwits and need a guiding hand. I would’ve never been able to do Zephyr Kite JP without Dulfy.
Although I did do everything else by myself in the Zephyr event, except for those kite baskets mentioned above…
But I’ve started to use Dulfy more and more, and I realize how helpful it actually is to me.
I admit it, it took me days to finish some achievements while it would’ve taken me a matter of minutes with a guiding hand. I’m a nitwit sometimes. And for those times, I need help, or I’ll just be running around in a circle like a fool.

saying hi and if you’ve never done the dungeon before, asking if someone could guide you is hard for you?
how do you cope in the real world with real people?
I’m more than capable of “pugging” also, but it’s when I go defeated (when I shouldn’t have) that I feel like a total noob.
Perhaps you shouldn’t go assuming things in real life? I do well in real life. I have a huge circle of friends, and I even volunteer at a community Hospital, where they tell me I’m very outgoing and definitely a “happy person” always smiling.
I always say “hi” in pugs, it’s just they never talk back, and then that’s when I feel like, “Perhaps they are ignoring me?”
I also always try to ask questions, but then I’m often ignored again, and I get the feeling that they are thinking “why am I wasting time with this total n00blet?”

You do realize that Asura and all their floaty awesome technology… occurred in Guild Wars 1, right? They had golems, they had Asura Gates, they had force shields… The technology leap isn’t that great. We saw some of their over ground settlements and they were pretty awesome.
Also, don’t forget that Polymock existed in GW1. Polymock was a HOLOGRAM game.
And that Dragon Bash was like… 90% holograms?
And that Norn are too proud to EVER use froofy Asura tech?
And that Charr steam-tech makes them equivalent to Asura, just in a different way? Asura excel at the insides, but most of their creations lack the durability or usability of Charr steam tech. So they don’t need to pay Asura exorbitant prices?
And that Sylvari don’t give a flying frond?
And that humans actively use all of the tech because, like real life humans, they have little care about riding on the laurels of others?
In other words, I don’t see your issue. In fact, I’d be more perturbed by the GIANT LASERS THEY ARE MAKING if you are so annoyed about how different it is from Guild Wars 1.
So ya, sounds like you didn’t play Eye of the North if holograms are the thing that are bugging you.
I have no clue where you get your lore. It was never stated that polymock used holograms. Could you provide a source so I can read it?
Also Asura technology had significantly increased. Compare golems from GW1 to GW2. Also, the came from living on the ground to a flying cube. It kind of looks like they "Disney"fied the Asura. In GW 1, they had total black eyes. Golems looked more rugged and stronger (ironically).
I too am not a fan of Steampunk, but I welcome Asura tech. It’s technology/science/magic working in one system. When do you really get to see science and magic combine? Usually it’s when they fight each other…
I’m hating the Charr/Dredge/Pirates more and more though. I just hate steapunk. also those steam monsters totally ruin all immersion for me

There are no one shot attacks in the gauntlet that a) do not have tells, and b) can’t be dodged. If you can see it, and you can dodge it, I’m really sure you can call it unfair.
I have yet to notice a tell on the AoE death from the bubble Guardian chick. As far as I can tell, she simply stops attacking for a couple seconds.
Sorry for double posting but it’s pretty obvious.
Have you seen a mesmer cast mantras? If not, ask a mesmer and they will gladly use Mantra of Pain.
Also, Guardian’s elite books #5 has the same hand motion.
If you see her “chanting” and using the mantra/book #5 animation with her hands, interrupt her!
Every profession has some.
Necro’s have Fear and Warhorn. Ranger’s have a lot (read my other post). Guardians can use GS #5→#5 for a pull at her (or if you are a shield, you can use Shield of Absorption lol). Mesmer’s have Diversion, Daze Mantra, Signet stun, pistol ….etc. Ele’s can blind her (I don’t know if that works or not) and if you’re OH dagger, Earthquake (but it’s CD is pretty hefty…). Sorry I don’t play my Warrior/Engineer a lot, so I don’t know about them.

Well, you have interrupts.
Shortbow?
CONCUSSION SHOT!
Longbow?

OH Dagger?
Skill #5 for a FREE dodge!
MH Sword?
2 and #3 are excellent “dodges”!
Pet?
Raven has blind!
You have to think outside the box for a second and stop face tanking him, like every other PvE mob.
As for the necro who was complaining, there are ways to deal with this too!
I’ve seen PLENTY of Necro’s kill the enemy in as little as 10seconds with Lich Form.
You can move while you’re casting Marks! Use #5 Fear Mark as an interrupt if you run out of dodges!
As for Liadri, if you get downed by a chaos rift, hit it! You might Rally.

Actually I love this event.
I FINALLY hit “Diminishing Return” for the first time since launch. I’ve never been hit by it, but it actually does feel good for the game to let you know “okay, you have farmed enough! How about the Queen’s Gauntlet?”
So you know what I did? I did the Queen’s Gauntlet! And was it fun for me! I’ve reached 3rd tier but I’m stuck at the Norn + his meat eating Dog but I’m having fun.
In this event alone, I’ve actually made a lot of money and t5-6 materials and some skill points and had(/having) a lot of fun.
My only peeve is that there’s not WP up at the Queen’s Gauntlet area, so you have to run back up stairs.
Honestly, I thought this would be one of the worst Living Story updates to come, but I was WAY wrong. It’s now one of my favorites

Wasn’t there suppose to be a bunch of houses there? NOT some weird beautified smaller hole?
I mean, if you go to Street Rat and talk to Riot Alice, she says that her father lived there (and I died I think). Also, near the collapse, there are NPC’s that do conversations with each other, claiming they lived there and had little stores there.
Are they just shoved back into the other districts? So a neighborhood collapses and causes many to lose their house. Finally they fix it, and instead of seeing you’re house repaired, it’s a giant fancy hole.
I don’t know about you, but I would be very mad.

Logan Thackery…. Has the best voice actor, worst character ever.
Sadly I agree…
I used to think he was pretty alright because I main’d a human Mesmer followed by 6 other human alts…..
But then I went into Twilight Arbor (My first time actually, and it was about a week ago. I don’t really do dungeons unless it’s AC or CM…) and he acted like a total [CENSORED FOR FORUMS] to Caithe.
That was when my opinion started degrading. However, he does have a cool voice.

Do you realize how much strain A-net would go through because they killed Jennah?
She appears as a prominent individual in the Human Personal Story line where you must pick an order.
So randomly she is back to life in those 3 missions?
Also, she is the one who wants to have the peace treaty with the Charr.
This would be a horrible decision, Lore wise and gameplay wise

At the posters considering DR would be weak, it would kind of be weak.
However Anise and Jennah are both “powerful” Mesmers.
In GW1, Koro Sagewind, a Mesmer from an elite Ebon Vanguard squad, used a spell that literally created a gigantic illusion which was as tall as the Eye of the North. At the cost of temporary (some say permanent, but I saw otherwise…) blindness.
Now that Phantasms and Mesmers have evolved and are much more “stronger” (lore wise, gameplay wise though, I think GW1 Mesmer beats GW2) than their GW1 counterparts, they could very well spawn an iBerserker the size of EoTN building on top of the Asura zerg. And their would be 2, because it’s both Jennah and Anise.
Also, lol illusionary wave back into Rata Sum. See you when you’re load screen is finished!

Maybe we need to take a step into the gaming world and see that armor can defend us from Meteors to 100 slices of a Greatsword, be it a bunch of robes or a whole “knights” armor.
And that’s my point. If both cloth and plate offer essentially the same amount of protection in game (not being insta-killed by a flaming rock), then there’s really no logical reason why a mesmer wouldn’t pick up and wear some plate armor.
So yeah, I agree with the OP. My favorite video game character of all time was in NWN2, when I made a halberd wielding, heavy armor wearing, sorcerer spell using blackguard.
Indeed, Cloth/Plate/Medium offer little difference in armor, what matters is inside trait and armor bonuses however, with such little difference in armor #‘s, I don’t think any light class would favor a Medium/Heavy set over their intended Light set. The OP suggested the -movement speed as penalty, and I’ll tell you my Mesmer is already one of the slowest classes in the game w/o my Centaur set. I also already have to switch back and from from Centaur→Berserker→PTV depending on the type of match. I also switch out trinkets, which is even more of a hassle than armor.
Although, I would love to see my Mesmer use t3 Cultural Human armor. One can dream riiiiight
I’m usually typing on my phone
So then the point isn’t moot. If they’re willing to toss reality out the window on all those matters, why not on issues of armor restriction as well?
Because it isn’t about “realism” but about a stylistic choice to make mages look like cloth-wearing scholars or frontline soldiers like plate-/chainmail wearing knights, for obvious reasons.
I don’t buy it. Look at the armor skins and tell me there aren’t heavy skins that look like cloth and vice versa. No, sir. No.
Perhaps we need to take a step back.
What the OP suggested is that all classes should be able to wear all kinds of armor.
If a particular class does stray away from their intended armor, they get a “penalty.”
Such as if a Scholar class wears a heavy armor, they get a -movement penalty. I have no clue what’s in store if a Heavy/Medium wear the lighter type of their intended armor.
He was not talking about skin.
Yes the discussion between Realism vs Game armor is irrelevant. Maybe we need to take a step into the gaming world and see that armor can defend us from Meteors to 100 slices of a Greatsword, be it a bunch of robes or a whole “knights” armor.

Au contraire mon ami. Lets ponder the reason for introducing the token wallet.
Well, besides being generous to their player base Anet stands to benefit a great deal from this because by freeing up storage space they are counting on increased sales in the game shop. More space equates to more room to store shinnies.
Then there is the introduction of higher crafting levels; ascended/ legendary armor and precursors in the course of this year. These things will require vast amounts of materials and in order to store these materials we of course require bocu more storage pace.
Then there is the supply and demand aspect to consider. With guaranteed means of getting precursors more people will want to craft legendary weapons. Hence demand is sure to rise. This is a given. What we don’t know is whether supply will be able to keep up with demand. So far this has never been the case and I doubt it will ever change.
So contrary to your prediction I think now is the time to start hoarding as much of everything as possible. Be it tokens, karma, skill points and every type of crafting material regardless of tier because we also know that producing at least some t7 materials will require a combination of the current available materials.
Just my 2 cents. Perhaps in the future I’ll return to this thread and post “you were warned”
Yes this is what I’m exactly doing.
Anything that I’m not “flipping” and I get through normal gameplay like Orr Events or WvW Lootbags get’s sent directly to my bank. Those are “OFF LIMITS” to myself, until I see the t7 Materials release.
I think someone “confirmed” it saying that prior materials will be necessary to upgrade to t7 and 400+ Crafting.

Sorry for 2x Posting but if you want to know a “tagging” build with Glamours I set one up to at least get 1 loot bag per battle.
0/0/10(?)/30/30
Chaos- II (Descent to Madness). This is if you’re portaling off cliffs. If not, then feel free to use the extra 10 trait points for another line!
Inspiration- II, IX, VIII/any. II + IX buff up glamours by a TON. VIII if you’re using Focus, if not, then use the extra 10 trait points for another line. Although I’m very wacky, and I’ve started using XII since it works with IP (900 heal is pretty small, but oh well….)
Illusions- I, VIII, XI. You can switch up “I” with IV, for reflection on Distortion. I take IV sometimes because the graphics is pretty cool looking. VIII for Blinds. It only ticks once per glamour, but it can really shine in battles. XI for tagging. You’re probably not gonna have clones out, but if you use Mind Wrack/Cry of Frustration in the middle of their zerg, you’ve probably tagged at least a couple enemies.
My utilities~
Feedback/Portal/Null Field/Veil
If you don’t have another Mesmer in your zerg, take Portal/Null Field/Veil. However, if you do happen to have 2+ Mesmers, replace any of the 3 for Feedback. Usually I do Portal/Null Field/Feedback. Feedback can also help with tagging issues.
Use whatever healing skill you’re comfy with!
Weapons~
GS or Staff x Sword/Focus
My guild leader usually calls out for Temporal Curtains and Pulls, so sometimes I’m forced to use Focus. However, if you do find that there are more Mesmers and they are willing to use Focus, go ahead and do GS/Staff if you need tagging. Speed is also good with Temporal Curtain, but I switch my Armor set with PTV -> random Exotic with full Centaur. It’s a hassle but it works.
You can use any gear you want for battles. Sometimes I use Full PTV for survivability, sometimes I use Berserkers + Survivability trinkets. I use Berserker’s sometimes, if I need to tag. Also, I heard it affects you’re crit damage from Feedback (can someone confirm this?)
I know, it’s a horrible build, but that’s what I run…
EDIT:
I’d like to note that IF I am portaling, I either slot out Feedback or the other utility for Decoy. Sometimes I quickly switch to my torch. A veil wall is pretty obvious that you’re setting up a Portal when only you pass through it! I mostly have Mass Invisibility as my Elite skill, so Decoy + MI + Torch (if I’m not lazy) gives quite a bit of time to set up a portal!
However Either use Torch at the beggining or when you’re about to put you’re exit portal down. The Prestige causes Reveal if you hit someone after the 3 second stealth!
On another note, I know you probably already know this, but if anyone else is reading this. Decoy stealth does not stack with Mass Invisibility or The Prestige. Use it when you’re stealth buff is about to expire, because decoy has it’s own stealth buff.

Unfortunately, if the confusion doesn’t hit hard enough it doesn’t count as a tag so you won’t be getting all those glorious loot bags.
Good point. How much damage is required to get a tag again?
Hmmmm… this thread is doing the opposite of what I wanted it to do for me… Making a build for novelty is all fine and good and all… but it needs to have a bit of functionality to at least make it not a burden Maybe I should just stick to Guardian and Necro if I want to roll with the zerg, and not simply be a portal/veil bot.
Sadly this is my situation.
As a mesmer, I’m locked into x/Focus with the utilities Veil, Portal, Null Field. My guilds is pretty low on Mesmers, with sometimes me being the only one…. (although there are those totally random days when there are 5+ mesmers)
It is extremely difficult for me to “tag” a zerg in WvW. I either drop Chaos Storm or an iBerserker(if it doesn’t die or I don’t get blinded….)
When I hear these people in TeamSpeak say …
“OMG THE LOOT BAGS! THEY SHOULD CHANGE THEIR SERVER NAME TO LOOTBAG BORDERLANDS”
I get extremely angry.
Especially when they are Necros, Guardians and sometimes Warriors.
Then here I am with my 1-4 loot bags. 6+ if I’m lucky.
I made a Guardian actually, and I’m almost always full on bag space with him.
What the other professions don’t understand is that, most of the time Mesmer’s carry the zerg. Either through Veil or mass Portal-ing. Even stripping Might stacks/Condition stacks through Null Field. And then we get 1-5 loot bags as a reward?
Also, it seems most zerg leaders are incompetent of Mesmer utilities. Recently I’ve been asked to use Decoy, Veil, Portal, Feedback, and Null Field. what?

There weren’t enough festivals in GW1
I remember waiting, and waiting and waiting after Halloween for Wintersday.
And right after the Dragon Festival (or Dragon ‘Bash’ in GW2) you would have to wait a couple more months until the Next festival a.k.a. Halloween. (Yeah there were tiny mini festivals like Wintersday in July, April Fools and St. Patricks Day…)
I guess the lack of festivals from the past caused a bunch in the present

Hypothetical:
In a word with magic AND firearms, isn’t heavier armor somewhat useless?
Ehh… that is a moot point.
If you were basing it off of real life, I’m pretty sure no one would survive the crushing impact of a Meteor Shower or even a banner falling out of no where going at the speed of light (Banners don’t do damage unless traited, but this is real life lol)
Could go the opposite way too. Do you really expect a petty little thief with his tiny dagger to almost instantly kill (Backstab) a fully covered soldier with that t3 Human Cultural? Unless that dagger is pretty….. strong and they have good arm power… Or they could hit the neck, but then it would be called Neckstab

Why not introduce a stat like movement speed and let everyone use all styles of armor, this would make the game more interesting when you un-restrict weapons as well. This could also be the new magic find stat.
Games these days are taking away all the limits, I believe it would be nice if players moved a little slower or faster depending on what kind of armor they used. (Granted, not that much, because the toughness difference in armor isn’t really that much, protection is like an entire set of armor.)
Anet is still traumatized from trying to balance classes in GW1, so they kind of went overboard in locking down every class to a set number of variables to make it easier in this game. Allowing every class to do every armor set would add a complexity level that they are terrified of.
And wow, Anet… your profanity filter went kinda nuts on his quote here…
The Profanity is appalling lol. Filter just broke the thread.
I’d like to wear some heavy armor as skins, but definitely not as “armor”
Also, the reduced movement speed you propose would make my mesmer even slower than he already is without his Centaur set.

His Great~Great Grandfather/mother would be proud (although, he lost most of his Canthan blood to a bunch of Ascalonians….)

If you have extra karma and use the Mystic Forge (a lot), I recommend buying a couple of Level 80 GOLD WvW weapons from one of the vendors. It’s around ~20-46k karma, and could save you some money if you are addicted to the forge.
Although, I like to stockpile my karma, and would never use it for boxes or even the above I mentioned.

The weapons themselves are very pretty in my opinion, but not the person.
Either the person is pure 100% elitist with Abyss + Golden Title (Ummm? Hello is this the new Black dyed Obsidian or something? I have abyss and golden title too but I flaunt my “Closer to the Stars” title because I love Cantha. And I use Celestial because it reminds me of the same Mission with getting Closer to the Stars! )
Have honest and sincere devotion. <- These are the guys/girls that take my eye
Have money. No thoughts. If you’re rich, you’re rich.
Grinded for it. Honestly I could care less if you grinded for it. If you did, you deserved it. I grinded for my Obsidian + Chaos Gloves in GW1, not to look “rich” but because I thought it looked nice.
For myself, I have a different way of seeing my goal for my Legendary (Bolt or Sunrise).
I loved playing Fire Emblem, and Sunrise looks so much like it should belong in one of those games. While for Bolt, I also loved playing the PS3 game inFamous, and figured it would be a nice tribute

Learn from Terra – add this skin to GW2 http://i.imgur.com/HdZnP.jpg – and see the sales skyrocket.
Uh no. Terra is probably one of the worst places you can find artistic inspiration for females.
Yes GW1 had a fair share of that kind of “inspiration” but compare…
