That comparison makes no sense. Nobody is saying that you shouldn’t get rewarded for it. Just not achievement points.
Why not? How can someone justify what we shall or shall not have? I supported this company and Guild Wars 2 before many of the players now new about it. I spread the word about the game, I recommended checking out the teaser trailer to folks when it came out in 09’, and supported ArenaNet with purchasing GW1 products.
This is exactly what I think the GW2 (only) players miss.
They forgot that, prior to playing GW2, the ones who played GW1 -> GW2 supported ANet most of the way.
When the announcement of GW2 arrived around the time of the release of EoTN, you bet that I told EVERYONE I knew about it. And that was 2007?
(Yes, they announced GW2 around the time of EoTN, and most people don’t know that)
That’s almost 5 years of full on support. Even when I was playing Aion (2009-2010ish), I told everyone about this amazing upcoming game known as Guild Wars 2, and that they should definitely try it. And that was 3 years before release! Even before the “hype”!
Edit: And this was before the GW2 icon was the “red 2 dragon” icon, it was the 2 with the globe of an Earth~like planet on it.
Edit #2: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Normal_gw2logo.jpg Here it is! Scroll down a little bit, and you can even see it was first added in March 2007! That felt like ages ago…

In my opinion, Dulfy deserves every copper she can get (if she does do your method).
Many, many, many players use her site, and it’s all free.
I’m not being spiteful to GW1 veterans. I’ve always said GW1 veterans should be rewarded, but not with more achievement points that affect Guild Wars 2 leaderboards. You guys can be given more armor and weapon skins, more cool titles, etc for all I care, but when you are given a 450 point boost, that is a bit unfair for those trying to be competitive in GW2. This is a different game, leaderboards were added for competition, and you shouldn’t gain that big of a competitive advantage for playing a different game. That’s all I’m saying.
This can just go back and forth, but with that logic;
Let’s say I take a break for a year, Live Story continues, and you continue to rack up points, I come back to find out players could earn a total of 3k points by completing all the live story within that year. Should I say that was unfair because they got to get those points and I didn’t? Because I didn’t know about it? or didn’t feel like playing? They are both designed by the same company and they support both games. They have always been tied together, this is nothing new.
AS much as I wish you could go back in time 2 years and slam out GW1 HoM before GW2 was out, you can’t and it just happened that way. Some of us were there and got to play. It’s the same logic as me missing out on a new update and not knowing about it. Nothing you can do.
Exactly. I’ve played GW2 since launch, and ~Late September – Late November, there were barley any new patches. Everyone had “finished” GW2, their personal story, their exotic gear, and they were bored.
I was even bored and took the month off after the Lost Shores -fiasco- was completed.
That month off totaled ~30 dailies. Back then, dailies were worth 5 Achiev. Pts each. And there were a fixed 5 dailies. So everyday that month, I missed out on 35 achievement points. That’s 1,050 AP!
And that was before anyone knew anything about a “leader board.”
Am I entitled to get those points back? No, I shouldn’t be.
My point is, stop whining. Oh booo hooo, you have to more dailies/monthlies now to get a “better” spot on the leader board.
How many people look at that anyway? I don’t, and only 3 out of 15 people in my friend’s list do
(edited by LumAnth.5124)
I would say the Fiery Dragon Sword is more than just a useless skin, considering Jormag’s Breath is worth 150 gold and shares the same skin, but colored different. God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals is one of the coolest titles you can have. Also now, if you had any ambition of making the Guild Wars 2 achievement leaderboard, you have to go back and play Guild Wars 1 to be competitive. You should be rewarded, but you shouldn’t be rewarded that much for playing a different game.
And for those of you saying 500 points isn’t a lot… it really is. If you are up high enough to make the leaderboard, you’ve accomplished almost everything in the game already and the points are not easy to come by.
Stop being so spiteful to GW1 veterans. Seriously?
We (they) are the ones who supported GW2 when it was unknown. (they) are the ones who were loyal enough to buy both GW1 and GW2. (they) are the ones who took the time to finish 30/50 or 50/50 HoM points.
Do you know how long it takes to even GET 50/50? Even I don’t have 50/50 and I’ve been playing since Factions release! (well, my laziness was a factor….)
To get 50/50 they must either have a lot of devotion or play GW1 very very regularly (if it wasn’t you’re goal, then 50/50 could have been accomplished by “normal” play)
When they released their HoM rewards calculator, I was not impressed. Neither am I impressed now of the extra 50 pts/each for my 30/50
…. We still have portal! Yeah that OP Shizzzz!!!! … NOT
We just have to adapt and learn to be Golem/Zerg taxi drivers now! Don’t worry! This is Anet’s idea of “build diversity”!
Could make Moa be AoE that affects 5 people, but lasts only ~2 seconds?
Oh well! A mesmer can dream right?
Anyway, I don’t even equip Time Warp * , I always have Mass Invisibility with me.
looks Canthan-ish actually. Those orb-like lanterns were used A LOT in events like the Dragon Festival and Canthan New Year
Just putting these out there….

That’s concept art for Guild Wars: Utopia (The cancelled expansion).
I think….
Anyway, they wanted to make Utopia and was based on Native American/Aztec/Mayan cultures, but came out with Eye of the North instead.
If a Factions Expansion releases, I would LOVE to have a set of Zodiac weapons!
I believe it’s learned too.
There is a sylvari with a hammer crying, when you get out of the tutorial.
She says a dialogue in the lines of….
You: Why are you crying?
Her: Because my master said I would be a better (I forgot the profession) but I want to be a (x)
You: Be what you want to be
Either would suit really. Neither nation was more magically inclined than the other (unlike Orr). As for the theme of death, Ascalon had it’s catacombs, and Krytans had a strange funeral rite where they’d mummify their dead, tie them to the mast of a boat and send them out into the swamps. It doesn’t seem to be practiced in modern times but I thought it was pretty interesting.
Where did you get that information about Krytans mummifyingthe dead and sending to swamps? I would see the exact same thing in a couple of swamps but I figured the undead Orrians did it to show they should be feared. (mostly because I would see the “mummy boat” surrounded by a group of undead)
Thank you Vayne and others for making a thread that’s SUPPOSE to be nostalgic aesthetics into another stupid “Mechanics gw2 vs Mechanics gw1”
Seriously. I hope a moderator would just lock this thread. There were many other “mechanics” argument thread…
I vastly prefer having to actually learn how an opponent’s build works to know when to interrupt, versus “There’s a cast bar -> Interrupt”.
Sorry but the more “skilled” players actually avoided that mentality. It’s very tempting to rupt a long cast time meteor shower, yeah. But wouldn’t you rather interrupt that Healing Rain?
You also have to remember, you can’t just keep interrupting one target, that would be just trolling. Its much better to spread and control the interrupts to gain a better advantage.
I’m not saying I agree with the OP (I have memorized most of the animations already anyway…) but that kind of mentality of “cast bar!!! INTERRUPT!!!” is more trolling than anything really
I can’t believe you and some others are still complaining about BLTC skins.
You realize they are a business first? They have to make money. If they have to make money by selling skins, I say good! I’ve spent over 40+$ trying to get a sclerite weapon and have got none. This is a huge step forward those boxes.
You should be happy too. There are people who will obviously convert Gold→Gems.
Good for them. That way anything Anet puts in the gemstore will always be accessible to any one. But many others actually paid for these too. And for that I say thanks to those who bought with real money. Because they encourage non RNG skins and sustain the game through it.
If you’ve seen reddit’s preview to new items, they posted finishers, kites, flutes…
They DO listen
Holy!!!
This has most of the things suggested in the BLTC forums like customizable finishes and a kite!
Anet does listen
I do. Some people really mix their armor really nice. But I have lately not seen a good male mix match and there were a plethora of extremely revealing almost naked light female armor.
I did see someone mix the HotW heavy body armor with others, and it looked nice on a guy
Yes, we care about the forums.
We also care about all the classes equally.
One of these statements is false.
Got to feel sorry for you Jon, you dared to stick your hand into the hornets nest. Did you draw the short straw at the latest dev meeting?
sorry but you’re response was TOO FUNNY LOL
anyway, still sad about being nerfed. I will try to learn to adapt. Luckily I only had 2 ascended items on my Ranger ( I want to play him so bad, but this is just flat out discouraging.)
I read another response, and it’s true, Rangers were Smiter’s Boon’d
hmmm… the first post of this was 10 hours ago at the time I am writing this.
hmmm… you do realize that there is coding that must be done to be able to add items to whatever method is decided and that take a few days to weeks depending on how good the engine is.
So this vote is basically a waste of time
i abstain.
You are assuming the coding hasn’t already been done. I’m assuming neither, but being optimistic and proactive.
I think if the coding was done the Reddit data miners would have the codes for them by now, i believe the fact nothings popped up says they aren’t yet added..
You mean something like this? http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1glv88/has_anyone_put_up_a_gallery_of_all_the_new/
http://imgur.com/a/cONc3
The second link even had some holographic (non-SAB) weapons! oh my…. how wonderful!
One thing that site doesn’t convey is the music. The music plus the particular scenery. That’s what gets me going.
(Yes, I know Jeremy Soule did GW2’s music too.)
Don’t get me started on Factions ingame music. Ohhh the Main Theme of Faction…
Could definitely get the 12/12 achievements by doing Jumping Puzzles and Aetherblade slayer achievements
No need to do the dungeon (Although I would like to, since I want to know what happens to Mai Trin, the Inquest and the Aetherblades, sadly I can’t, as the dungeon proved to difficult for me and I’m afraid people will call me “taht n00b!” when they see me die. Oh well! I can always read the wiki for info!
)
I definitely can’t wait for my Spooky Ghost or Karka to have mini battles!!
I thought the OP’s intention was to talk about how nostalgic it was to see old screen shots and wanted to discuss the aesthetics of GW1 and GW2. Not about who’s game play/mechanics are better and what in the world a niche game is.
Ahh thank you
Was wondering whether or not I had blind spots on my screen
Although, I was really excited to see GW1 God statues in GW2 graphics (Balthazar and Lyssa to be specific)
Like your pink shirt doesn’t look weird ?
Hey! It is my natural color >:-E
http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/3738/hq9s.jpgI just wanted to change my old mask to something new. But this new mask… eh. I hope they will fix it
On the other hand, your Sylvari’s face is very good looking
Pre Searing Ascalon is probably the most beautiful thing my eyes have ever seen.
It was a perfect color blend of blue, yellow, orange and green (with the occasional marble color for buildings)
Not only was it that bright and shiny scene, but it had it’s smudges. The Catacombs is a big example. Another is the Wizard’s Folly mountain, with the mysterious tower. And it’s those smudges that made Pre Searing Ascalon perfect
I have never, ever seen such a place (in a game) in my life as beautiful as that.
Sadly, they tried to recreate the same setting in the Charr Homelands in EoTN, but it wasn’t as good (I thought it was a pretty bad extension, actually)
Came here to post pretty much this, exactly.
While I believe the Charr homelands weren’t without charm, they simply can’t compare. Still, I find it enchanting that if you tilt your head correctly, and let your eyes space out for a bit, certain parts of GW2’s Ascalonian lands rekindle the magic that was GW1.
….Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go log into GW1 and die horribly because I’m going to be mashing a non-existent dodge key. ;_;
I did this yesterday! I logged into GW1 and just went through tons of different locations for the nostalgia. I kept trying to move during fighting, which as a ritualist was about the most ridiculous thing ever -_-. /jump!
Ha ha! Although I do occasionally “dodge” in GW1, I press space bar to attack more often in GW2, ending in an awkward jump…. (I’ve almost gotten rid of this habit if it weren’t for me constantly going back to GW1!!)
Anyway, yeah, Pre-searing. If you haven’t seen it, I suggest you take a look at those screen shots the OP posted.
It is way to marvelous, and I get lost “RP-ing” by myself in their. I pretend I’m a village Wizard or some random merchant. Sometimes I sit by the river in Regent Valley and just marvel at how extravagant the view is.
While waiting for the Shadow Behemoth, I figured I’d visit nostalgia central, and went to the ruins of the Temple of Ages.
Maybe I overlooked it, but the Statue of Balthazar was missing when I was there (I’ve circled this place 3 times while waiting for SB)
There was also a statue of Kormir there, but I figured the Krytans put it up after they realized she became a God(des).
Can someone point me to the right direction, or explain to me (why/if) it’s absent?
Congrats on paying to win,.
Perhaps you need to look at other MMO’s (specifically the grindy, eastern type ones, like Aion) cash shop.
Step aside from you’re rage from previous nerfs a bit and take a gander at the Aetherblade Swordsman animations.
Aside from the his “kick” ability…
Would you like to replace MH Sword’s auto attack animation with the ones the Aetherblade Swordsman has?
Sorry I don’t have a video of their animations, but it looks pretty Mesmer-esque and duelist-y (can’t find the right words
)
I have nothing but resent to show.
You’ve managed to simultaneously (almost) obliterate my 2 mains. Ranger and Mesmer in one patch. While at the same time, plenty of buffs to … Guardians…..
You think Mesmer is anets fave ? LOL. Just take a gander at the huge long list of nerfs they just got. The only one who was nerfed harder then Mesmer was the Ranger.
Please stop your baseless argument and accept the buffs you just got.
Kuunavang from gw1 Factions, “Never reject a gift from someone that can swallow ou whole”
With the new BI/CI, that would be crazy powerful, especially in regards to Sword #4 and GS #5.
GS #5? There is no daze in GS 5. It knocks back with possible interrupt. This change would actually be bad for GS 5 and Temporal Curtain but good for all the others like Chaos Storm
- Shatters – nerfed BF
And this makes Shatter useless, ofc.
- Phantasms – completly butchered
Ofc, substantial increase in Phantasm lifetime but a 20% reduction in Phantasm-summoning-output result in “completely butchered”. No contest.
- Interrupting – this will never be viable, the interrupts dont reset the CD and its near to impossible to interrupt a race like asura because of the low visibility.
It seems very viable from the brief evaluation, but I’ll agree this needs more investigation.
- Stealth – one elite skill and one 3 secs skill. Yea, I can see you make a build aroud this.
May I direct you to http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Stealth and the four stealth skills we have (not counting Deception)?
Blurred frenzy wasn’t just a shatter nerf. It now basically discourages me to use sword in the other (weird) builds I have made.
Yes phantasm builds were not butchered, they have been significantly toned down. This also destroys my Phantasm build in WvW. Also, he wasn’t just referring to the Illusion Celerity nerf. Your just jumping conclusions.
I have played and experimented interrupt builds before and after these “buffs” came along. I was actually very excited that they buffed interrupts. Yes they are better but it is still an unreliable build. The only time I’ve reliably interrupt (strategically) is through the use of the (now nerfed) temporal curtain. Don’t argue with me that diversion is actually reliable. Because it’s not. Clones have to run up just to daze a person (or 5 if traited ). There are others like Illusionary Wave and the even more unreliable OH sword daze. Even Chaos Storm isn’t as great of an interrupt as you think. First it needs to daze and then they have to be using a skill while dazed.
I can’t believe you think a stealth build is actually viable. Unless you are running Prismatic Understanding with signet of Inspiration for boon shares, you are just as useless as that rabbit next you. Also, signet of Inspiration has a long cool down.
Honestly, I’m not insulting you, but from reading your other posts in threads, you speak like your just theory crafting.
(edited by LumAnth.5124)
Why did this thread become a discussion about gameplay and mechanics?!
It was about graphics and aesthetics at first glance reading the OP...

(edited by LumAnth.5124)
I’ve heard guardians got most of the buffs, while having minimal/no nerfs at all
I know for a fact that Mesmers and Rangers got the worst nerfs of all
Sorry for double posting, but the leggings are good too.
Just gotta mix and match other types of armor for some really nice clothes.
Yes, I know, I am an idiot for posting those pics since I should be defending…. lol
It’s not bad for mesmer looks…
Well, in my opinion though
Standard Phantasm builds are still viable in PvE, not so sure in PvP sadly.
The loss of Illusionist’s Celerity definitely does hurt. Of course, there is a silver lining, as Phantasmal Haste* has become available to those who want 25 in Illusions.
I would go as far as to say Phantasm builds have reached a huge buff with PvE. This makes it so iDefender can tank and support party members much more than previously.
iDefender along with the underused iDisenchanter can last a steady amount of time now, and both offer significant support. While iDefender can absorb many hits, iDisenchanter can act as a Null Field, removing enemy boons while also cleansing conditions (this is very important in the new Dungeon actually)
*edit: I would also like to add, that those Phantasm Mesmers going for Illusionist’s Celerity (and taking Phantasmal Haste) can significantly reduce PvE enemy boons and conditions. According to the wiki (which can be a little untrustworthy), Phantasmal Haste allows Phantasmal Disenchanter to attack every ~3.3 seconds (?). Along with an already short CD, Phantasmal Disenchanter can be effective in dungeons where boon removal and condition cleansing are supplemental.
(edited by LumAnth.5124)
Did you not read that literally most of the mesmer builds have been effectively nerfed/ nulled down?
Except in PvE, lol phantasm is still good in their for iDefender… I guess…

LOL THIEVES QQing seriously? Are we that OP even with all these nerfs
Thank you sPvPers and whiners for destroying all that is left for Mesmer diversity
Here’s what we have now…
Interrupt
Shatter
Next up on the nerf list, Mind Wrack!
I…. I don’t know what to say.
Thank you QQers for destroying Mesmers into oblivion.
NOT ONLY WAS IC NERFED
-so was Blurred Frenzy (Seriously 12 kitten seconds? WTF)
-Clones are now literal balloons (as if they weren’t glass before, now just a tiny little needle can pop them)
-Your expected “Signet of Illusions buff” has now turned into a horrific side effect nerf
-Why are you nerfing Moa Morph even more? It was already a horrific skill to begin with
BUT DON’T WORRY GUYS! we got crap interrupts and Torment ohhhh!!!! And on the scepter #2 (with of course, a 50% reduced damage)!!
I can see it now!!
NERF MANTRAS
NERF SCEPTER
NERF GREATSWORD
NERF iMAGE
NERF MASS INVISIBILITY
Yes, here are the list of nerfs I believe will come to pass if they keep listening to these intolerable whiners
Blurred Frenzy
Deceptive Evasion
Distortion
Mind Wrack / Overall Shatter builds
Glamours (omg where my Might stack go? Null field? nerf plz)
Veil
Seriously. It will all lead to this…
Mantras are too powerful! Mesmers can precast it before a battle and they can 1-100 me with so much utility!
Anet, please do not listen to these whiners
Wow, I cannot believe the amount of people here still believing that Mesmer’s will be OP.
What’s next ?
“NERF BLURRED FRENZY HURR DURR”
“NERF DISTORTION HURR DURR”
“NERF MIND WRACK ZOMG!”
Then it will eventually come to this
“NERF MANTRAS LOL, THEY CAN PRECAST IT!”
Have you realized that Mesmer’s we’re nerfed almost every single patch? The only time I recall good buff was the 3 Mights / illusion shattered, and that was reverted back.
And you do realize the “OP” mesmers killing you are the ones that have Cookie Cutter builds? Just like the same Guardian has a bunker build, or the same Thief has that instakill build.
I visit(/lurk) the guardian forums regularly because I have an alt guardian that I’m interested in with PvE/WvW.
Yes I do main Mesmer.
I cannot believe that you guys still think that confusion is powerful. After the 50% nerf, I have never encountered a confusion Mesmer. Ever.
“But not if you have 25 stacks on you!” … Seriously? When do you ever see 25 stacks of confusion on you? Especially now that confusion (for both Engineers and Mesmers) have been destroyed to oblivion?
Now confusion is that random condition that you can probably shrug off and keep doing w/e you’ll be doing. Also, you’ll probably be fine anyway, since Torment will be limited to certain skills (and an unfavorable weapon)
Also, from the “leaked” patch notes in GW2hub, Mesmers are going to get a huge nerf to their “diversity”
So please, don’t worry about the Mesmers getting Torment. In fact, I suggest you worry more about how Necros (<— especially these guys, now with the alleged buff on “Focused Rituals” allowing easier trait management and Ground Targeted [ranged!] Well of Corruption) and Thieves would get torment, while easily shredding boons off.
Here’s a (somewhat untrustworthy…) preview of their new DS skill http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tainted_Shackles
Sorry for intruding
just bought the horn and i gotta say its the best money i ever spent. i am having a bit of a problem transitioning from note to note, as there seems to be some sort of delay. how are you guys playing yours, any tips?
If you want to use 2 notes fast, you must press ESC key (or your cancel action) and not.the weapon switch key
you can also tap your movement keys but you must be firm and quick
thanks man, will try it
try not to dodge when tapping your movement keys ! Best of luck to you

The Secret World isn’t that bad :P
I get my GW1 “fill” there and their customization is supreme. I also I get to play as a person with “normal clothes” (Aka pants and hoodies with a pair of white sneakers)
Also Caithe voice (Kirsten Geary) has got t be my favorite MMO NPC of all time.
But GW2 is my home now. And it’s a nice, cozy home where only GW1 can make me leave. Even though I’ve raged on these forums a bit… I admit I love and admire what GW2 has become.
