Thought polls were agaisnt the ToA
Yeah. They could after all reveal obvious flaws in the game.
If you want a sPvP buff, sPvP forums are that way ->
Mesmers are still extremely useful because of their unique support abilities. AoE stealth, portal and time warp? I’d trade all of my ele elites for any 1 of those.
Then again, ele elites are what they are…
Gotta be truly bad to complain about the most OP class in the game and the most essential one in organized zerging.
Try playing a warrior. Maye then you’ll see how hard not to rely on a handicap: 8 second teleports/stealth/access to immunity to anything at any time/ clones attacking while you are running or dodging/ 10 sec invulnerability for 2secs on a weapon skill.
Yep..mesmers are truly in bad shape.
Mesmers are in bad shape in top pvp. That is a fact: there are next to no mesmers in the high end PAX tournament.
Mesmer is my main but I don’t really do other pvp except duels or 2v2 as a mesmer anymore. Zerger glass warrior (that damage!) is thousands times more fun when it comes to zerging and I’ve got my thief when I feel like trolling around. For spvp i just use whatever is most effective: spirit ranger, s/d thief, necro.

There has been discussion and lots of people support them. But anet is stubborn.
I really don’t see what the fuss is about.
The only difference between an expansion and the living story is how the content gets pushed out
Expansion – content comes out all at once
Living Story – content is gradually pushed outPeople naturally hate change and still think of the old MMO mentality. Expansions are just as dated as paying for subscriptions.
Easy one.
Expansion = quality content coming out, when ready
Living Story = mediocre or worse content coming out due to scheduleExpansion = getting whole guilds back to the game for months
Living Story = getting less and less people back for days if you are luckyExpansion = good advertising in the whole MMO community
Living Story = only some in Anets team and some hardcore fans really careExpansion = Something you talk about still for years (Nightfall? EotN?) with story and immersion
Living Story = Very few updates are remebered like a halloween or winters day equivalent, but no immersion or storyExpansion = Full blown story lines in game giving rich playing experience
Living Story = some blogs on the web site for those who visitI could go on, but I think the point is clear. LS, even when it is getting better can never hope to accomplish what good sound expansions can and will offer.
Spot on, well said and explained!
Idk, RuneScape to this day is still one of the most popular MMOs on the market, and that game never had an expansion. It had some quite amazing updates which are remembered by all players and ex-players, and frankly some of the best lore and most memorable characters I’ve seen in any game (to this day I still tear up inside at the thought of Hazelmere).
LS can also be marketed well, like what they did with the pocketwatches for this LS, and in my experience with a lot of games working on the expansions model, you get guilds back for a few weeks, then everyone leaves again once they get through the expansions content, so the LS model might actually get people to stay for longer.
Runescape is an oldschool “sandbox” mmo so it functions quite differenlty.
Stealth stomping is the most insanely stupid kitten I have ever seen in any mmo.
Should Blink, Mist Form, Distortion, Portal, Aegis, Blind and Stability stomps be removed too? Stealth Stomping is a valid game mechanic and while annoying should stay, there is counterplay to Stealth Stomps.
Well, to be honest the stealth stomp is the most difficult to counter. However the problem is upstream, because what is ruining the game is the downed state, not the stealth stomp.
Pretty sure distortion stomp is more difficult.
Someone got beaten by a thief
^ this .. and there is nothing childish about winning in any way you can.
There sure is lol. Or I quess it just doesn’t bother you when they res mesmer trough a door and portal a zerg in.
Your allies just need to learn how to counter stealth stomp. Note that ALL stomping can be countered by stealthing the downed ally.
And retaliation? Really? Sorry, but were smart enough to see that and STOP what were doing until its gone. Good lord. There are actually a couple people that dont AIMLESSLY dps.
Devil’s advocate: Drop a single tick of AoE on a crowd of 20 people with Retaliation. 20 hits of Retal at the same time. Drop something like a lingering AoE field like Combustion Shot. You’re gonna get hit by Retals and you can’t turn it off.
Perhaps retal needs a tune down then.
Out of curiosity, If said “skilled” roamer joins the zerg, are they not skilled anymore? I roam/scout/defend/zerg, quite successfully does that make me skilled or not skilled? Are you generalizing “skill” to the point that individual skill trumps group skill?
I’m not sure what you are trying to say. Formula driver doesn’t lose his skillz when he is driving to the shop, but he isn’t using his skills when doing so either.
Eh, if I remember correctly, the meta in GW1 was a balanced team. However, not everyone ran a balanced team and there was a ton of success. Spike teams, pressure teams, (hexway), or troll teams (lichway, anyone?). Either way there will always be a meta, doesn’t mean you have to use it to be successful.
Given that the game is well balanced.
ps. poster above me, I love your signature.
ileap =>f3 => swap => burst can be useful against players who would normally use evasion skill such as blurred frenzy to negate the burst.

As a mesmer, stand nearby your clones and when you block, the attack lands on them, revealing the thief.
The retarted phant spam spec should definitely be tuned down .That build is cheesier than d/p thief and about as dumb as a Spirit Ranger.
Do you even realize there are plenty of players who rarely check the forums?
:)
But that’s how gallups are done. If the people who answer are selected with no bias and there is enough of them, then the data should reflect the opinions of the whole community.
2. What exactly is your definition of fun? Fun is subjective, no?
Indeed it is subjective! That is why some players would have more fun in duels and simple 3v3 matches! You have to realise that even if domination is the format that fits best for competitions*, it still isn’t the type of pvp that everyone wants to play. Personally I just can’t enjoy it, even if I try to.
Really, all games have game modes that not everyone likes, but to solve this problem, they come with multiple modes so that everyone can find something they like. For some reason however, Gw2 comes with only one game mode. :|
*not sure if this is the case, but even if it is.
(edited by Master of Timespace.2548)
I’m afraid a few, specific instances of “goofiness” do not, your point, make.
I can summon just as many “serious” things about GW2. Look at the personal story. People being murdered, loss of life everywhere, struggles to survive. It was not pokemon bubble bounce bumblekittenery.
Mufasa died in The Lion King. Scar nearly starved the entire Savannah after taking over. Zazu was imprisoned and threatened to be eaten. They had a leopard eat a baby in Tarzan. That doesn’t make either the diary of Anne Frank.
Indeed. That kind of stuff has nothing to do with something being “serious” or not. Take for example Starship Troopers xD
It took several weeks for this to sink in. I’m happier with the game now than I ever have been (still working out some of the kinks, but it’ll come with time) as a result.
First thing you need to do – Forget GW1 ever happened. It didn’t exist. It’s a dead-end road heading in a direction that will not be taken any further by ArenaNet. You may have loved it, may have seen it as a sign that there is some hope for AAA online RPG games, but those thoughts do not belong here. They drove back to home, started off in a new direction, and GW2 is somewhere down that road instead. No matter how you feel about the difference, if you focus on all that GW2 isn’t that GW1 was, and all that GW1 wasn’t that GW2 is, you’ll never be satisfied here.
Second thing you need to do – Realize that GW2 does not take itself seriously. This is not where you come for deep lore or a sense of doom you’re struggling to overcome. This isn’t where you play to get a sense of being in a typical fantasy novel/movie. GW2 is lighthearted. It’s Disney, not Game of Thrones (the book). The Dreamer will not feel out of place if you look at it this way. GW2 is intentionally goofy. It’s not a mistake. They’re not incompetent. It is too pervasive in all aspects of the game from the writing to the content releases to some of the skins for weapons and armor to be happenstance. They’ve done an incredible job creating a very easy to digest setting where you can goof off with friends and strangers in various ways in a beautifully rendered fantasy world. Though less extreme, it’s like watching an episode of Jake and the Netherland Pirates with your child. It is excellent for what it is. If you approach one of those episodes and expect Pirates of the Caribbean, you’ll be sorely disappointed at no fault of the producers or incredible talent behind the show.
GW2 is a birthday cake, not an elegant desert, by design. By being lighthearted and accessible, it makes it easier to work with the gem shop without affecting immersion because they have already found a way to provide an experience that does not require or offer that immersion. They can provide rewards that appeal to a broader audience. Not everyone wants Twilight. Some people want Dreamer. They want Kudzu and Moot.
If you can approach GW2 like the carnival/theme park it was clearly intended to be and just enjoy taking part in it, you’ll be far happier. I am, and while I realize I’ll have to look elsewhere to get the experience I was originally expecting, I’m glad to spend a little time in their new vision of Tyria while I wait. The game is fun, the graphics are great and it’s still one of the better MMO experiences you can find.
Then it should not have been called Guild Wars 2.
Yes, and nor should have the manifesto been what it was.
People dont care about most of them, since they dont rly impact the world much. I mean if centaurs take one outpost for example, all there is to it is that you will get contested WP, wow that hurts, next step is counter attack to clear them out, and like that in circles all day.
If they could make DE’s more progressive like centaurs for example after capturing one outpost, reinforce it and go for capturing another one, and so till/if some1 stop them. If they take whole map, that would put some work for players.
DEs just need more consequences and progression, atm they are just too boring.
Wouldn’t it just be awesome if one day you’d log into lions arch to notice that the Centaurs of Gendarran Fields were sieging it from the north? :P
But unfortunately gw2 is a theme park mmo. Influencing the “everyday gaming” is not allowed in this template.
Some advices for new players
Here is mine: this isn’t the only mmo with pvp.
There is a lot of thought behind why some professions have higher heath pools. This is a complex system. Some professions need higher health pools because they have less defense naturally and cannot build it as high with traits and gear.
Really? To me it sounds like just a lazy way to balance things. Sorta like fixing something with chewing gum.
Thinking about playing again.
I’ve played a number of classes and you had to kite with most of them…have they done anything to change that? My favorite class was the Mesmer and running around in circles became ridiculously tedious.
Agreed. Pve = abuse stupid AI.
I know this issue is going to be polarized by playstyle, it was the last time as well for quite a long time. The people who think wvw is running in a massive zerg won’t even notice these runes. The people who think wvw is 20v20 gvg with nonstop condition clears will probably notice the confusion but think it is balance. And the people who think wvw is 10 or less vsX are going to absolutely hate what confusion does to the game.
Well WvW definitely is not about running in a group of 10 and ganking rookies. You can achieve next to nothing else with a group as small as that. Sorry.
Allied player icons will be fixed in the next hotfix! Apologies for the break!
We’ll watch the feedback for the new minimap to determine what other changes to make and directions to take. Keep in mind that that every map has had its art updated. We focused primarily on maps being playing at PAX.
Aye, naturally. It is more important that the 10 players (and even less watchers) of the PAX tournament have good minimaps than it is for the rest of the playerbase to have balanced and fun pvp environment.
Syncing isn’t even the problem since in a better world there’s a 50% chance they’d face against each other.
The big problem with the current MMR is that it tends to group the 5 best ranked players on a team against the bottom 5 players on the team, so the games are typically very lopsided. This not only creates imba matches, but makes it much easier to sync with someone of similar MMR. It’s no surprise that the top ranked players conveniently enjoy the luxury of playing together often against completely lesser-ranked teams.
Hence the lucrative amounts of players in the top 100 with 75% + win ratios.
Yeah, when the average win ratio in the top 100 is signifigantly higher than 50%, that’s an undeniable proof that there is something wrong with match making: they don’t seem to play against each other.
2. nerf necro (or remove them too from soloQ and make a necroQ with skyhammer only)
Lol’d
Original? lol.
All mesmer skills. Source: pax tournmanet.
I think it would be fair to let phantasms be dodged. But to compensate, they should have some more direct effect than just being boring AI that you spam up whenever they are off cl.
(edited by Master of Timespace.2548)
I am having the same thing right now and I’m pretty sure it’s related to their servers. I do not think it’s related to the email authentication.
Ironic that mesmers have very limited condition clear and stability. I am sure it is a L2P issue <3
I suppose it is time to nerf confusion again. 50% across the board wasn’t enough anet. Time to go half again!
If you think Out of Attunement needs to l2p, you are definitely mistaken… confusion is very strong right now, especially considering how easy it is to massively stack a person up.
I know Out of Attunement and you also convenant. What he is stating in the OP is not true though Confusion spam with glamour mesmers you could kill alot of people with a few mesmers. Now with these runes?
You can kill 1 person if your a engi and get a good interrupt a few more. Its not spam, in small 5v5 and small man roaming it is strong but when you get larger numbers or zergy battles this rune hardly matters. Before it didnt matter how many people you had because feedback, nullfield, portal, veil ignored the 5 person limit so you could stack good amounts of confusion (with its old damage) and it was enough to kill alot of people.
If it doesn’t matter in zerg warfare but completely destroys small group combat why on earth wouldn’t you change it?
Yeah, why nerf d/p thief?
My top priorities:
1. New Map icons
2. New Victory Jingle
3. Alot of tooltip fixesI am happy with this patch!
Good one xD
Rewards? Come on! If you want PvE stuff go do PvE. PvE loot doesn’t matter to hardcore PvPers.
But it matters to normal players. If you are hardcore pvper, this isn’t your game anyway. Gw2 hardcore pvper is really an oxymoron xD

Just how does he die to confusion then? Because I’ve fought many people who don’t main their ele or anything , and know very well how to deal with confusion mesmers. Confusion really just doesnt do more damage than bleeding, unless if you spam like hell ofc.
Bleeding: (0.05 * Condition Damage) + 42.5 per stack
Confusion: (0.075 * Condition Damage) + 65 per stack
(edited by Master of Timespace.2548)
1) Better reward system. Even though it would delay everything else I feel that it’s fundamental to the longevity of the game. Remove the barrier from PvE/PvP rewards.
2) Balance the current meta.
3) Fix the match-making system so it stops creating ridiculously imba matches.
4) more skills or viable builds.
5) new game-modes.
Man, the game is just so much better these days.
I don’t know how you can die to confusion as an ele. Even before the confusion nerf, I didn’t stand much change against better eles on my confusion shatter mesmer. Rookies of course just spammed till they were down. Direct damage performed much better against the more experienced opponents.
Confusion does only so much more damage than say bleeding.

In conclusion, conquest is bad, but deathmatch is worse.
But that doesn’t even matter. Some people will like it and will have fun in it. I know I would.
Also, your conclusion is based on the facts about the current state of the game, such as too much spam, too much clutter and not enough teamplay. Now, these are all things that should be fixed anyway.

Good points in the video, I agree and approve.
Clue: Warriors are only gaining popularity in soloQ because they are good against the most popular classes in soloQ. Nerf the most popular soloQ classes and warrior is all the sudden not that popular.
Warrior will still drop like a rock to condition spam, but is decent 1v1 vs those classes. Since there isn’t much team coordination in soloQ, especially at lower ranks, there are more opportunities for a warrior to shine vs necros and rangers.
Also, I have never seen a five warrior game, and I myself am a warrior. I am going to run some soloQ tonight just to see how much of an exaggeration this is, since I haven’t paid attention to it in a week or so. The most I ever saw in a soloQ game was three warriors on the team against us (and only every seen that many once), and they lost horribly.
Do run and post the statistics. It does appear to be the most popular class or at least as popular as necro or ranger. It is definitely more popular than engineer or thief.
I will post there, whenever I get around to playing some games. Sadly, GW2 is getting more and more boring these days and I didn’t bother logging in last night or today.
True lol. In fact, I find these spvp forums to be almost more entertraining than spvp itself..

Thanks for the response Jonathan!
Even when the post contained nothing of any value, except of course the corny added in by the PR team.
Solo Q is casual.
Guild Wars 2 is casual.
Jesus christ what is this obsession with modes?
If the combat itself doesnt keep you interested, new modes will only have the “release” effect for you, after that you realise new modes dont change the combat that you didnt like in the first place.
But combat isn’t necessarily bad once certain issues are dealt with. The node game however, is bad and will always be so.
They have said it, to not expect new modes in the near future.
Thank god I can except new games.
@jcbroe, they are pushing e-sports snce headstart.. and yeah everyone blames this for the game’s poor gamemode variety.
game mode variety is limited by the fundamentals of the combat system. devs have said as much before. things like no energy (which contributes to elites on 1+ minute cooldowns) and no healers (greatly reduces teamfight time) prevent team deathmatch modes from lasting long enough to mean anything.
A midfight can last for 1-2 mins. Do you need more for a deathmatch? We need a mode to just ‘chill out’.
devs said deathmatch doesn’t work, and it’s obvious why
Duels do work. Give us duels. GvG works too, btw.
I suspect that the gameplay is so different and fast from the typical PVE MMORG that it is very difficult for people from the playerbase to achieve the level of skill needed to compete.
And therefore the relatively few players that get really good just dominate anyone else in the SoloQ or Tourneys…and the other people just give up and go back to doing something else.
This severely limits the popularity of PvP.
Also, it’s so fast that it is not really fun to watch the matches. Everything happens much too fast to know what is going on, other than this guy dies or that guy dies…which is pretty much the only thing I hear the game announcers say. They can’t talk about the successful rotations or how one guy just beat another…it is over in 2 seconds in a blur.
That also means it can’t be very intelligent. Ever tried to play Chess with 5 seconds + 2 seconds per move? Because that’s how the game feels now.
(edited by Master of Timespace.2548)
Anet, just apologize to Helseth and make him lead of the balancing department.
This guy makes more sense then all the balance happened to this game since launch.
Apologies need to come from both sides imo. What he did was also extremely childish.
I’m curious, what did he do?
Yeah, warrior seems incredibely popular atm. It has always been popular, but I’m pretty sure it’s the most common class in Soloq now.
I think they should make it so that if you are already CC’d, you are immune to CC for that duration, BUT when a skill is interrupted, it goes to full cool down. This would encourage consideration and precision over mindless spam.
