Toughness/Armor should reduce condition damage, problem solved.
Answer:
- Give toughness trait line passive condition defense.
Players with High HP do not feel the damage that much.
Players with Low HP get destroyed in seconds.High HP should not qualify bunker/sustainment, not in any game. Currently, Toughness means just about nothing in PvP.
As I said before, that would kill the entire point of conditions. Why do damage over a long period of time if you can do more damage NOW and kill the enemy NOW?
Ask the people who ran condition builds in gw1. Damage of conditions had a cap there and they did not stack, yet they were still very useful. It’s called pressure, but perhaps that can’t exist in this much simpler game, mainly due to lack of healers.
If you climb up to the top 100 now with a new account (without synching or other tricks), then I gotta admit you are pretty good. Currently the ladder however, seems somehow biased: in that image you have someone with rank 3 (some very new pvp player) against rank 60 (some basement dweller who lives in this game).
I’m guessing Syrkle is Cyrkles alt and one of the better players on blue. Could be someone else though.
Perhaps, but he might as well be someone who got the game today, as can that ranger. My point is: the match making is biased. If BOTH of the teams had about as many high ranked players, it wouldn’t matter that low ranked players would play along them. In fact, that would nicely test the leadership skills of these high-end players. However, when they are all cascaded to the other team against a bunch of rookies, something is wrong. It’s almost pathetic.

Basically, if the system on purpose mixes high ranked* players together, it should never pit that team against teams that are formed either randomly, or on purpose from low ranked players. Such match making is biased. Either form all teams purely randomly or pit the high ranked players only against other high ranked players.
*Think the system actually uses leaderboard ladder to mix the fights, but the issue is the same.

What in the world is the guy above me rambling about ? Altering the behavior of skills surely can’t be very difficult technically. At least it isn’t in other games as modders very well know.
Probably because as a whole, ANet – and players – are really really really afraid of Confusion.
The condition is quite weak – even before the nerf – due to how easily it could be avoided, but with the available amount of +conditionduration in the game – a general issue IMO – it can become dangerous in an exponential fashion (Confusion doesn’t scale linearly with duration due to opportunity cost of avoiding it).
In other words, if we were to remove the potential +100% duration we can get, we could easily buff it by 150% or so in damage.
But because of the way it works now, ANet is afraid of it. Hence most of our skills applying it are so weak.
It was just the glamour spec that was op. You couldn’t really avoid the confusion spammed through glamours, but of course Anet didn’t realise that this was the actual root of the problem.
Daggerstorm needs to evade melee attacks and reflect all ranged attacks.
Think it should also spin so fast that the spinning propels the thief up and allows him to fly.
I dont want to play the bad guy, but I don’t want to be a hero either. Too many rpgs out there force a very major role on the player while I’d just want to do my own thing. This is why my personal story is still lvl 40 something and why I have never done the main quest of any elder scroll series despite playing them hundreds of hours.

Shatter. Basic Shatter build. 20/20/0/0/30
Anything else?
Yes, what utilities weaponset amulet, are you running, and what is your basic strategy most of the game?..
Berserker’s Ammy. Runes of Divinity. Staff (Sigil of Purity), Sword (Sigil of Air) Pistol (Sigil of Force). Ether Feast, Decoy, Portal/Blink, Null Field, Moa/Mass Invis. My primary strategy in group confrontations is to fight all targets at once. I’ll deploy clones for each opponent, and Daze/MindWrack AoE them during the fight, until I determine whom is more susceptible to a full shatter. I then shatter them, eliminating them from the fight, and generally leave my team to mop up, I place a portal, and then head to far point. In 1v1s, I’ll focus all of my attention on keeping up 25 vulnerability for full shatters. Some opponents cannot be beaten in this way, such as Spirit Rangers, as they’ll simply outheal my primary damage. So I pick my targets carefully. Terrormancers will always beat Shatter Mesmers, and always have. So you cannot expect to win some 1v1s, but that doesn’t mean Mesmer is unviable. They’re perfectly fine.
Whats the reason to take mesmer over another spirit ranger, necro, guard, engi, warrior or s/d thief or whatever though? A build is either top build or unviable, there is no middle ground in this type game. It’s like taking a tower over a queen in Chess.

So the point of conditions is to be OP you say???
And also, several people its not you and your condimancers club… sorry but there are other classes that play this game too… too bad for you i guess, we are more.
I never said that, why would you think so? Condition damage has a place, just like power damage has a place. Changing it to a slower variation of power damage will effectively remove it from the game.
And please stop accusing people that disagree with you of being in some sort of “condimancers club”. Accept the fact that you are not always right, and that sometimes in life people will disagree with you.
No it will not. It will however, remove retarted specs that can both deal massive armor ignoring damage through condis while having 3.1k armor and perma protection.
Or just stop caring about some ridiculous online game rank? Anyhow, the poster above me has a good point.
Yes the FoV in this game is terrible. It’s amazing they thought leaving such a narrow fov was a good idea.
Also, if the game is balanced over the small fov, then there is something deeply wrong with balancing.
Sometimes it really feels this game never left the beta stage, but tbh, that feeling just belongs to the Guild Wars games.
(edited by Master of Timespace.2548)
If spirit ranger is OP, following logic, i would be invincible to them right?
Answer to that question is no. Your logic is terrible.
It’s a shame that they were so close to balance then just went nuts with a few classes and made the game a joke.
they lost any hope for balance the day they announced gw2 would have no monks, no energy, and pre-set weapon skills.
Exact.
The PvP is like CoD, Gears of War, and a kittened up RPG twist into it.
First I thought you didn’t know what you were talking about, but this nails the current state of spvp so well that I just kept nodding for the rest of your post.
How are these threads the least bit useful? No one can even say WHY spirit rangers are overpowered or HOW they would try and fix them. Also where do you draw the line between it being a class issue and not just more issues with conditions being so blatantly overpowered?
We know the Ranger class has a low skill floor and low skill ceiling. No one knows why ANet designed the class to be so passive, but they did. There is no other way to play the class other than as a bunker with regen and/or condi which seems to be the theme for sPvP right now.
Why not make a generic Rangers thread or take the dicussion to the Ranger forum. As far as I’m concerned, this is a condition problem and not a Ranger problem.
Oh I sure know a fix. Would fix lots of other crap too: remove the condition damage attribute. Yes, you heard it. This would make conditions “something extra” and not something that you can deal ridiculous damage with while still being tankier than an Abrams.
Nerf pets damage considerably, phantasms, spirits, minions…summons whatever…
My suggestion to phantasms have always been: they deal only 1 attack (maybe 2 if traited) and then turn into clones or just disappear. I like mesmer but I hate those retarted pet builds with passion.
Cast bars would be a good start. Some currently instant damage skills could be made “semi instant”: give them a short channel timer but allow the user to perform other actions normally while channeling. This would warn the opponent of an incoming attack while keeping the flexibility that instant attacks offer.
Defensive instant skills can remain as they are now.
(edited by Master of Timespace.2548)
How many more of these threads need ot be made until people start actually trying to come up with a solution? And we’re convinced this is now a Ranger issue and not the simple fact that bunker/regen builds with condi support are overpowered?
The solution has been there for a while: fire the balance team, they aren’t competent for their job.
Yes I want. I play WvW with multiple characters and Wexp feels useless to me.
Anet favours the bigger numbers by alot. You can only hit 5 of 30 ppl but all off the 30 ppl can hit you. The aoe cakitten uch a joke. It should go the other way around aswell if they wanted to use the joke aoe cap system.
Every guild/blob group run stacked upon eachother. It’s so ridiculous.
Yah it is. Showed this blob activity to some of friends who don’t play Guild Wars. After watching silently for a while one of them asked “Why do you play this game?”.
I like the food etc. myself. It allows for greater build diversity.
The stacks… I agree. You shouldn’t be able to get 25 stacks then inventory change to another weapon and retain those stacks. I do this on every character I have that I play in WvW though lol.
I don’t think its that bad. At least it means that if you get downed, you lose some effectivity that you need to gather back.
Food and sigils that build up to 25 stacks of condi damage/power damage weren’t usable in wvw? I know i know, most will say its the worst idea NA but remember what anet almost did (or will do in the future i don’t even know) to aoe? If we couldn’t have insane condi damage/duration and huge bursts from power builds with food/stacking sigils, i don’t think aoe nerf would ever be mentioned because everyone would deal moderate damage.
What do you think all the guild groups running in full PVT sets do? Deal moderate damage. The game is all about that boring crap already.
Lot’s of “I can do this and I can do that” in this topic, but little actual relevant facts or logic.
Me- Why does my spirit ranger beat every other spirit ranger? If there’s no skill involved, shouldn’t they be able to beat me at least some of the time?
You- Because you are better at the game then they are or they are relatively new to the game.
You basically agreed to me right there. Let me rephrase it then I suppose. If it’s so easy to play, then how come people don’t wisen up after a few matches and beat me?
Are you trolling me?
Your not? Well then because the spec is overpowered..If that other person is running the exact same spec as me, as I have seen countless times.. and they keep going up to me and trying to kill me and losing, I would say that if it was easy to learn, after a few goes they would be able to beat me wouldn’t they >_>
Here is slightly complicated example, but duh, it should show why from what you say does not follow that the spirit ranger is not a faceroll build.
-take all skills except autoattack away from warriors.
-make it so that warriors 1 hit everything.
-make it so that warriors cant be damaged by anything else except other warriors.
Now warrior is obviously ridiculously overpowered, but still, if someone practices that ridiculous 1 hit warrior a lot, he can win most fights against other warriors.
(edited by Master of Timespace.2548)
If you loose to necros, you doing something wrong mate.
The problem with Spirit Ranger is, you can play the build one day and you will be more effective than players that play for example an ele for a year.
This. Face rolled some champion magnus with my spirit ranger the other day. That other day was the second or first day that I played ranger xD.
There are so many people who do fine in a 1v1 situation yet have not one bit of understanding of positioning or rotation.
If I was interested in that type game, I would just play Chess.
I stopped playing thief quite a few months ago just because off how easy they are to play and felt like i actually needed a challenge when roaming.
It makes me cringe when i see people playing p/d set up roaming around thinking they are gods, when in reality it is the easiest set up with in the entire game!I would love to see those people play a 3 kit engineer (p/s, tool kit, bomb, ff is my fave set up and it destroys thieves quite easily) it would give a lot of thieves a wake up call in how little they have to put in to get good results.
Ehh, isn’t that FOTM build #4, only below s/d thief, spirit ranger and necro?
I got hit by an unusually painful heartseeker today. As I’ve been on a break from GW for couple months, I thought something was changed about thieves. I however took a screenie of the combat log, as it was pretty hilarious how fast I dropped.
Note that the first C&D hit me for 6.2k, which still kept my 17,6k healthpool above 50%. 7,5k HS seems pretty high to 50%+ hp target.
Oh, I think I got around 2,6-2,7k armor.
That’s extraordinarily insane damage from a C&D. Even if you’re absolute glass, you shouldn’t be taking that much.
Nah, it’s typical damage against a light armor target that isn’t a bunker and doesn’t have protection.
If you can’t land cloack and dagger, just install the training wheels like everyone else, that is, roll d/p.
But if you’re going for “red=dead” then keep doing it, because that’s what you’re supposed to and 100% entitled to do. And if anyone complains, ignore them. They need to move on.
Feel free to do so, but do not except any help in the fight from the other duelists.
(edited by Master of Timespace.2548)
I have played WvW a whole lot since the first Beta. In all that time I have had less than 10 such times where someone invited me into party to whine. And even those were mainly because people thought I was hacking due to me c&ding off walls or spamming unlimited range thief sword #2.
However, I can’t count the numbers of times I’ve found respectful people and even good friends via that party invite feature. The people you play against in WvW aren’t your enemies, they are people you play with just like your allies, and it’s natural wanting to discuss with them.
So, perhaps instead of selfishly demanding a removal of an useful tool, you just use that block feature? I really doubt you have to use it more often than maybe once a month.
Not being a softie who gets offended by the words of a random teen in the Internets, helps too.
(edited by Master of Timespace.2548)
This.
I’m pretty sure they are. In fact, think they even suggested it themselves not long ago ?
(edited by Master of Timespace.2548)
400 heal per second = 8000 health in 20 seconds = medicore considering many other heals gives also some sort of utility effect.
For love of Lyssa, don’t change it into another retarted DOT. It is already too close to being yet another “Bleed+” because of it’s low damage.
It’s duration should always be very short, but to compensate, it should hit hard. This would add actual depth to it’s use. Making it a DoT means you are best of spamming it on recharge.
(edited by Master of Timespace.2548)
The strange thing is, lately all I ever see is necro and ranger hate.
Play one or two spvp mathces and you’ll know why :P. d/p is the only thief feature I really hate.
The change was necessary. As much as I loved the skill the way it was, being able to attack and dodge at the same time was too powerful. Even after the nerf, I still use this attack as a third “dodge”. Now that it’s not complete immunity, you have to rethink when to use it and against whom. More thinking is ALWAYS a good thing! That keeps the game from becoming a mindless button-masher.
Judging by the general absence of mesmers in tournament, I don’t really think it was necessary at all
Even after the nerf, I still use this attack as a third “dodge”
There is nothing special in that type skill. Almost all weapon sets have them.
Are we bringing back the buff? Yes
You’re actually going to re-introduce the buff which only served to make the stronger server even stronger?
Read again. They are introducing the buff, but the way you obtain it is going to be differend. So perhaps it’ll now be something that not only the strongest server gets it’s hands to.
Artifical difficulty is needed in almost any game that doesn’t have an AI implementation. To a degree it’s fine (eg. cheating npcs), but UI fighting is generally something that shouldn’t exist.
(edited by Master of Timespace.2548)
If it was some cool weapon skin I’d understand, but it’s just some useless minipet that you can’t even sell…
the thing that would most benefit spvp would actually be fewer stat combination, or even no additional stats at all (only from trait line). there are too many glass cannons and bunkers with nothing in between being nearly as viable.
devs rightly limited the stat combos in pvp, but in my opinion they haven’t gone far enough. but even so, this game’s pvp is pretty far out in the sea of bad pvp, so i suppose if they wanted to casualize it even further they could allow all pve stat combos.
Perhaps you should try this game (can’t remember the name…) where you can select between two choices: the offensive white army or the more defensive black army.
Anyhow, personally I think they should just make everyone play warrior with steady weapons and no weapon swap.

Get your krait killing in + changes —-> removing a big part of the water?
Yea, sounds good to me.
How often do you get interrupted to allow the rune to stack confusion? I’d like to try these runes, but I’m not gonna waste money on them when they probably get nerffed.
How curious :p
I would love to see win streaks in game, as long as a couple of conditions are met first…
1) Kill the sync queue problem
2) Have a larger PvP populationThe Random Arenas from GW1 was fun; a similar system in GW2 would be great – after 5 wins, move that group to Team Queue. It worked great in GW1 IMO, and would be awesome in GW2 (again, meeting the above two prereq’s).
Yea thats what I thought when I made this post.
Think you are right. I somehow excepted this to be very popular mode so there would be lots of people playing… but seems its quite dead. Think RA from gw1 is more alive than this thing xD. The pvp in this game is so full of fail lol
(edited by Master of Timespace.2548)
Basically, if a team wins, allow them continue to next match with their party. This would make it more exciting to play in the arenas as you could go for personal win streak records and it would also add more reason to actually win a match. There could also be a minor extra reward for scoring conscutive wins.

we need same kind of rivalry as some EVE “guilds” have!
I think we need more than that. The drama between EVE guilds were quite mild compared to what I have in mind.
Don’t think you can have it in a game as simple as this though.
I think they should make a map called Sky Dragon that had tameable Claw of Jormag with frozen breath of doom that destroys everything within 500 miles every 2 minutes. Only rangers could tame him of course.
