Living World is exhausting

in Living World

Meluna.1764

I agree. I was very enchanted with the idea of Living World at the start. But over the time, it is quite exhausting. There are days when I’m so busy, I can`t even log in to finish the dailies. Now missing the Living World comes on top. It should be an incentive to play, but through the arbitrary time limitation it feels more like punishment for not playing. I bought this game because no fees mean I don`t get punished for not playing and can spend money on it whenever I please. But now larger and larger parts of the game are temporary and poke me towards completion as soon as possible instead of when I`m ready. The achievement rewards actually made that feeling much worse, since LS rewards a lot of AP. Loosing the mini isn’t that bad, but being denied the possibility of ever getting these massive amount of AP ever again kind of hurts now. It makes taking a break much harder than it should be.

I also feel that often the time limitation is arbitrary and unnecessary. The removed dungeons were popular and a great addition to the existing ones, why remove them? The new Crown Pavillion activities will vanish because….? I don`t even like most of the minigames but I still can`t see a reason to remove them. I agree with Shiren: open world content changing up sometimes is fun. But removing instances is just… not necessary. It feels like a waste of good design: Here you have an awesome dungeon designed by people that put their heart in it…. aaaand it’s gone.

Another bad side effect is that it drains the population from the rest of the game. Instead of spreading people out by giving more opportunities, people will flock to LS events because they have to hurry to complete them asap. It’s very similar to the starting areas being overrun in rotation due to the daily events.

Getting new content every two weeks sounds awesome. But by now I realise it comes with the rather large cost of loosing content every two weeks. And that is something I could go without. I strongly suggest to use positive reinforcements to get people to play (new content/ new rewards) not negative reinforcement (taking away content if not played in time).

Queens Gauntlet needs to be instanced

Meluna.1764

I already posted this in another thread, but felt it’s pertinent here.

Have two diff types of instances, one where you have to wait in line because you want to watch the fights in front of yours, and another where it’s solitary.

That would be the optimal solution. I fully agree. Since you need the NPCs outside the arena, there would still be a save spot for watchers. And they could even get closer, right now you can barely see anything, not even life bars.

Meluna.1764

First, this is single player content so it is designed to be done alone. Second I’m not doing ANYTHING which was the whole point. I’m just standing there. And other players watching me just to pray I die as fast as possible so they don’t need to wait any longer. How is that playing together? How is that anything other than anoing? Either have me wait while knowing when I need to react or not have the boring waiting part at all. It isn`t necessary. Also not in an MMO.

Queens Gauntlet needs to be instanced

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: Meluna.1764

Meluna.1764

Right now, playing Queens Gauntlet is not fun. I am not speaking about the insane challenge, just about the way how you get to the fight in the first place.
Right now, 90% of the time you are just waiting. Even with just 2 other players, you barely play, you just wait to play. And you can`t do anything while waiting because you will get no indication of transportation. Only a barely noticable chatline a mere second in advance. You spend minute after minute with your eyes glued just to the chat window. This is NOT fun gameplay. This isn`t even gameplay. When waiting for dragon spawns at least I can read a book. There are audible indicators of any events. Here, I have the option to be either bored or instantly downed. That doesn’t have a lot of incentive to make me even want to try. I want to play and challenge myself, not watch the chat.
Here is how it should work:
Make it an instance for every single player, have the NPCs inside. Once I sign up, transport me forward inside the arena. No waiting, no boring.

Bonus: The announcer needs to shut up!

First is easy soloable, second is soloable, easy when 2 people. Do you need tier 3 and 4? Almost solod Tier 3, but went down with 30 seconds to go. Since I`m not that good, T3 should be soloable by better players as well.
I don`t recommend tanky builds, as they don`t bring enough damage to kill the looters quickly enough. I found very mobile characters to play nicely there.

Meluna.1764

The WvW JP you need for the Bazaar is the Obsidian Sanctum. The Entry lies on the Eternal Battlegrounds and can be accessed through any of the 3 keeps (preferably your own for obvious reasons). Run around on the outer wall of the keep until you see a staircase leading downwards into the earth (to the infamous water gate). You will find a blue shimmering door, the Mystic Portal. Go through and you will find the Obsidian Sanctum. And there you will see that finding the entrance was the really really easy part =D

Nope, you can`t transmute it. It was possible for a while, but since these skins are not made to fit other race models, this ended in bugs varying from hilarious to horrible. To my knowledge, this transmuting loophole has been fixed for cultural armour. Even if it isn’t, I wouldn`t recommend it as it could backfire.

Explorer Achievement (maybe not a bug)

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Meluna.1764

Meluna.1764

The achievement corresponds to areas that you discover when the blurred map parts are filled in, you get a yellow indicator text on your screen when that happens. There are many areas that do not include POIs or the like, which you need for world completion, it`s a different achievement. Often these things are JPs or minidungeons, sometimes they are just empty.
I did it yesterday, so it is most definitely not bugged!
I suggest opening up the shiverpeaks maps in the wiki. They have the explorable areas outlined. Then check against your own opened map which area is missing.
The achievement is accountwide, so it doesn`t matter with which character you do any part.

Meluna.1764

I’m not sure if this is supposed to answer my question or not. Are you saying that someone who kills you because you’re on the opposing side is somehow a ‘griefer’? Am I understanding you correctly?

Listen, I’m not a fan of WvW at all, but I really can’t really buy the argument that killing opposing players is somehow a community problem, trolling, or griefing. However, if your point is that WvW maps shouldn’t count towards world completion, I agree with you.

They aren’t killing me because I’m on the other team. If 5 people chase me alone across half the map just because I’m trying to reach a Vista (and yes that happend), they are not skilled, they are not adding anything to the game, they just want me dead because I am an easy target because they are more. As generalraccoon said before me, I have nothing against being bested by better players, but these incidents have nothing to do with being skilled, they don’t even add to WvW. In the full five minutes they chased me (bonus: I got away in the end) they could have tapped several camps or done virtually anything but annoy a single player not even interested in the encounter in the first place. Looking closely at it, it’s even more of a waste to their server than to me. I completed the WvW map, I have no intention of feeding the trolls any more. I even avoid PvP minigames. Anything with PvP attached to it somehow attracts trolls. It’s just not worth it. Just run mindless with a zerg, no thank you.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Meluna.1764

You can’t tell me that it helps the server in any way if you have a group 5+ farming minchars that are trying to get the map completion. You can’t tell me it’s a display of superior skill to camp with 10+ guys the spawn/arena in the JP so no one can finish. The only halfway pleasant WvW experience I ever had was in groups larger than 5, when the Trollzergs can`t just steamroll you and actual play is possible. And no, they don’t do anything, they camp your single corpse forever so they can predict your respawn. And no, that was not a single incident. It is the norm. But the JP I don’t want to do in a zerg, so I keep away from the entire content alltogether. That is why most people hate the wvw maps being a part of world completion. Because it is filled to the brim with people looking just for easy targets instead of serious challenge. Taking up server space from people who would actually enjoy the content.

Get rid of griefers, trolls. Somehow I always have the feeling this is the majority of PvP players. This includes minigames and WvW. Yes, there are nice people in WvW but they are far and few in between. In PvE I can avoid and block nasty people, PvP specifically awards people griefing. As it is, I’d rather gnaw off my arm than subject myself to useless anger.

I dislike only the glitchiness it comes with. Loosing the lead because of lack of skill is my fault. Loosing lead because the game spazzes out on me is just annoying. I usually can’t do more than 3-4 runs before I just rage quit.

I agree that some of the glitches or rubberbanding can be annoying, but the good thing is there is no difference in rewards from what place you get in the race. As long as you finish the reward is the same.

It is nice to place high or even come in first, but at least if something happends that you don’t it isn’t a waste of time, the reward is the same.

It’s still very annoying and makes me loose by random. Are the rewards really the same? What about those messages at the end top player at checkpoint and top player? do they amount to anything or are they just mocking me.
Bonus: I’ve been first two times now, never got the achievement. I’m loosing my will to participate in this mess. Another quit for the day after just two runs. Meh!

The personal story step Trouble at the roots (26) where I want to cheat Waine with the OoW story out of Caledbolg currently stalls and is uncompletable. At Waines second fight, the Charr he’s supposed to fight does not enter the arena and Elli doesn’t start commenting. It has been like this for weeks, which is a shame since I really like this story step. It’s very funny and I’ve completed it before with other chars. I'm not happy to see other players - looting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Meluna.1764

Hm, you make a few good points. i agree with you in many aspects. I love how much focus is set on cooperation and how you are rewarded. People waiting for others at the nodes (and thereby actively working against the node stealing design) are the living proof that the basics that the game has taught us are really working. It is so refreshing to see people helping each other and yes, you are completely right, this needs to go much further.
Your proposal…. I kind of like it. as long as the mass of leechers stays under a critical value (there are always leechers), it could really add another positive flavor. The question is just how to limit it correctly. Have the corpses there only for a short time before they disappear, have loot sharing only within the group.
The most important thing is, and that has been noted before several times, that damage as single participating criteria needs to leave. Collaboration needs to be rewarded. Here are my thoughts:
- healing and rezzing need to count as participation! It’s such a wonderful gaming mechanism, this needs to be rewarded more.
- getting aggro for a specific time needs to be rewarded. Some people have amazing kiting skills that make certain fights much easier. Even if they did 0 damage, the kiter is a central point that protects his fellow players and they need to be acknowledged as parts of the fight.

As stated I should be really happy to see other people. This game has made great steps in that direction, don’t be afraid to walk further. =)

Can drop ten from every mob for a year, so? You are missing the point, it has nothing to do with impatience. The skins are still not reliably accessable. The point is that it has been handled better already and there is little reason to change to a worse system. It is intentionally frustrating design which is what ticks people off. The aweful return rates are just the icing on the cake, they are not the core problem here.

Spontaneous awesome moments

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Meluna.1764

There are sometimes little moments that make you unexpectedly go “Woah!”. It might be discovering a stunning location, winning an improbable fight, meeting great people, dropping something amazing that you desperately wanted. Sometimes it’s little things, sometimes it’s a combination of unlikely events.

This thread here is for you to reminice about these spontaneous moments of awesome that come out of nowhere and can make your day. Share them and maybe you’ll make someone smile =)

A few days ago I was running around Caledon Forest and found the Krait witch active. Called out im map chat, but it wasn’t a busy time so only two other people came. Many of you know how hard this boss is, especially for a starting area, she hits insanely hard and can easily whoop your sorry behind even in full exotic gear. And there we were, three lowbies and me on my squishy thief. We knew we were in to die, we still tried (maybe zerg her down via waypoint). The guardian kited her around the wall, me and a ranger trying to stay alive long enough to pop out as much damage as possible from far, crippling her with traps for improved kiting, shadow refuge on constant cooldown to pick people up, it was glorious. And then she was down to 30% and I realized: we are going to do this! We will make this! And the rest of the fight was pure bliss till she fell. That was amazingly satisfactory. And kudos again to that guardian for the great job kiting, brilliant display of skill!

A little courtesy goes a long ways.

I found it so heartwarming when I finally encountered this:
people were waiting for each other and then carefully throwing out their weakest attack so as to not kill the mobs instantly. I think this is the result of the nice collaboration atmosphere the game has promoted.
Then I realised that we were collaborating against the specific design of this content. I should be happy to see other people on the map and I usually am. But this unintentional griefing design here makes me sad.
However, it is so nice to see the few people that stick to collaboration no matter what. You make this game great! =)

…until you try to do a password reset.

you need to provide a game key provided at purchase, the date of purchase, the card you used to make the purchase…

so if you no longer have that one email from a year ago that they sent as a receipt, you are basically f’d.

This is untrue. If you no longer have your serial number, Customer Support will assist you in changing your password, or any of a myriad of other issues. There are many threads in Account Issues about that very topic, with positive results. =)

Inculpatus is correct. My wife had password issues that were resolved fast and without complications. We didn’t have the serial code anymore since I bought her the game (free bonus tip: playing together can really boost a relationship, especially one that focuses on positive player interactions as GW2 does) and I didn’t think of keeping it. She wrote to Support and got her password reset almost instantly without any problems. I myself have also made positive experiences with technical support.
