Why the discrimination against Celestial?

What do the other T6 mats have to do with it? The charged crystals aren’t tradable so they have zero value. Quartz is so much cheaper because it is practically useless. Timegating plus accountbound just eats valuable time and gives nothing back. It is cheaper and faster to just switch to another stat combo. If I could trade 250 crystals for an instant charged that would waste less time and give value to the charged crystals. Or keep them time gated and make them tradable. At the moment it makes the impression to be designed to be annoying.

Why the discrimination against Celestial?

Meluna.1764

Celestial gear is ridiculously hard to get. It has to be self-crafted, because every part is accountbound on this stat combo exclusively. Weird enough but ok. But also the charged crystals are time gated. WHY? I have tons of completely useless quarts. Why is the conversion still time gated? Ok, go farm some quartz nodes and just pray to RNGesus for charged drops. But… turns out the nodes are accountbound and there are only 2 or 3 in total… Why? Why do you hate celestial stats that much that it absolutely must be a complete pain in the posterior to craft a single piece? Even most of the ascended time gated materials are tradable which makes it easier to obtain ascended than celestial. Is celestial really so completely overpowered that it validates requiring an entire month to craft?

What do the females get? A cheap kittenty Halloween knockoff costume…
Why the heels? Male and female costumes are lightyears apart in quality. The female version isn’t even worth half the price, it looks like a cheap gag-version of the male outfit. Just give me the exact same costume! It’s just disappointing.

Hi to all you Ele-veterans!
I’ve been out of the loop for many months and now am back. =D
Just brought my second Ele to 80 and looking for a specific water/healing-type build.
Is something like this viable? Maybe with a bit of Arcane? PvE style.
My first Ele was fire/air themed, so I have her on a D/D crit/burst style build, but I admit that I have no idea if that still works after the patch. Are there any good current builds floating around in this direction?

i honestly think that it should behave like a proper mmo auction house. 15% cut period. no listing fee, or turn it into a deposit that you get back after sale completion.

Unfortunately the listing fee is necessary. Else people would just use it as storage by putting up items at ridicoulus prices. The listing fee keeps that from happening.

As frustrating as it may be, the gold sink does make sense – As we’re in desperate need of more gold sinks. :/

It doesn’t make any sense. Yes we need gold sinks, but levelling chars are not the ones making obscene amounts of dough. Slapping newbs is not the way to go, atm it sinks more newbs than money.

I kinda like the idea of unlocking traits, but the whole thing just went so far overboard. My idea to take it down a notch:

  • give points more often. Atm its easy to miss getting new points because the system trains you to expect nothing to happen at level up. Reward every leveling up.
  • Blue traits should be open. When trait system is unlocked, you need to be able to explore it. Don’t unlock something that is locked, that feels like trolling.
  • Balance the unlock conditions. There are ridiculous tasks in there for minor traits.
  • keep PvP and WvW out of this, they are not PvE content. You can tell them to visit the corresponding maps to encourage play, but stop trying to force players to play your way.
  • either remove skill points from the paywall, lower the needed skillpoints A LOT or just add a ton of ways to gain them during play. Gold is not the big barrier here. I can donate gold to a friend in need, but he’ll still need to get above 100 skillpoints somehow.
  • Grandmaster traits need to unlock at 60 again. Latest 70. The whole point of forcing content was to let players learn, yet you prevent them from learning their final character until max level. I do not understand that decision.

TL;DR: The unlocking traits was a nice idea, but the implementation lacks refinement. It should add a sense of reward and accomplishment, but at the moment it takes away reward and adds arbitrary barriers.

As an Ele, you are per design rather squishi so it forces you to learn the movement mechanics rather fast. Movement is your friend. GW2 does not work like other MMOs where you can just stand around and cast, that will absolutely get you killed here. Take your time, take single mobs and pay attention. Red circles on the ground mean AoE damage and must be doged out of. Large ouchie attacks are often telegraphed through animations, move out of them. Learning to dodge is hard at the beginning, but is required for later content.

If you want more survivability, I recomment Guardian or Warrior as starting character. You still have to learn to move, but these professions are more forgiving, especially at the start.

You also want to test different weapons. I see especially newbie Eles running around solo with staff. Staff is best when used in a group.

If you keep running into problems, you can always ask for guilds that take/teach newbies. This game has a very helpful community and you will find ingame a lot of people willing to share and show. =)

You forget about those who stopped making alts because of this really bad new system.
How much is a character slot?
How much does it cost to outfit an alt?
Will new players want to go thru the pain again to make an alt?

Personally I think most making alts will spend less on them because there is no longer experimentation. Level as fast as you can and get only what you need. Possibly anti-gold sink here.

Easy fix…. REVERT!

I absolutely agree. I am an alt-o-holic. My favourite activity in the game is levelling. Am at 10 lvl 80s by now, since I like to take my time.
The new levelling system discourages me greatly from making a new char. My second ele was 73 when the change happened and bringing her to 80 was considerably less fun than pre-patch. Worst for me is the Grandmaster trait moved to 80. While levelling I tend to try different builds as I go up, how much they suit me in playing. Can’t do that anymore. Plus, levelling up is not an achievement anymore. Nothing happens except your gear getting worse.
My last charslot is a keyfarm, because I could not be bothered to make a new one.

So yes, you are right, therew is at least one person who stopped making new chars.

I have an entire stack and I do not plan to even look at the activity again, since the way it is handled has not improved. As long as I’m waiting 90% of the time, the whole thing isn’t fun. I don’t even care how good the fights are supposed to be, since I barely get to play them. So yes, the tickets should have some worth outside. At least let me trade them to someone who is interested in it.

PVE Open World easiest Profession/Build

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Meluna.1764

Meluna.1764

Guardian. The profession comes with so many heals and high innate healpower, it gives you a lot of survivability. Of all classes, I found the guardian the easiest to play. Even in story steps where I had problems with tricky classes, guardian just stands his ground. Warrior comes right after, but isn’t my thing. Maybe test both till lvl 10 and then decide which mechanic you prefer playing.

Beware of Thief, Ele and Mesmer. Those are extremely strong classes but they require quite some getting used to. If you don’t want to study strategies and stats, these are not the classes for you.

The most important is that you are having fun with the class mechanic. You have 5 char slots and getting to lvl 10 is fast. Test out the professions you are interested in, see how the mechanic fits your playstyle and test out various weapons. If you find something that is really fun to you, then that is the class that will be easiest and most engaging to you. =)

Complete a few lowbie maps and see if you have fun doing it. Explore by yourself and only consult guides if you really really don’t get further. That is the most fun. If you are not the type and find it tedious, no use in forcing yourself. But as the others say, it’s not hard, just can take a while. If you have fun in exploring, absolutely go for it. I agree with the WvW part to be the most annoying. in the open world, I only found Orr harder for me personally because I dislike several design choices there.

I agree with Highchu.
The strongest difference is that Jumping Puzzles are vastly more easy with small chars.
Additionally your camera hight is tied to your character height so camera on large chars tend to get caught on surroundings earlier. Meaning navigating through somewhere with a low ceiling will be no problem on an Asura but can be barf-inducing on a large Norn (motion sickness ahoi). Learned that in the Troll JP in LA.

Voip helps with the fun anyway when you’re playing with others. GW2 combat is never stationary so during combat you can not talk by chat, so that’s not an issue.

Several good friends of mine have always tried to convert me to WvW but I admit it has been never my cup of tea. For their sake, explain to me why WvW should be more fun or at least equal to PvE. My friends are counting on you and your abilities in smartiness. =)
There are some concerns I have especially for WvW.

1. I hate PvP. For some reason WvW has always been shoved in with PvE, why? Because there are a few random mobs sprinkeled around? The PvP part is the entire point? I am a great fan of co-op, but the PvP part still the biggest part that puts me off. I never played a PvP match in GW2, would rather saw my arm off.
2. It’s mostly about zerging. If I want mindless running in a horde, I’ll go on the champ train in Frostgorge. Has better loot. Small groups have barely any impact. Single players are just easy killcount.
3. It feels like I have no impact at all. Ran around in a small group (3-5) turning camps. Once we leave, camp immediately turns back. Feels like effort not well spent.
4. I feel unwanted. Server space is limited. As someone who is not an uber-pwns-m45ter I usually feel like I’m just stealing someones place who could have more of an impact than I do.

So please alleviate my issues and enlighten me to join the WvW path of the game.
Waiting for some good arguments =)

Info: current WvW status: lvl 15 n00b, but I have two commanders very intend on teaching me once I finally stumble back into the WvW server because I took a wrong turn in Lions Arch =p

I would like to ask to reduce the amount of people per map. Drastically. Right now, every heart is a zerg, even in the middle of nowhere. Events are just a run to tag anything at all while mobs die as they spawn. The idea of making the world more lively was commendable but every single part of PvE is now a zergfest. Kinda overdid it a bit.

I have 11 Chars, 9 of them at 80. Levelling was my most loved thing to do. Every level felt like progression, taking steps towards being better and more heroic, deciding for a specialization. From level 60 on, you could try out complete builds to learn to play them till 80.

Now a level up mostly means your gear just got kittentier. That is all. No feeling of accomplishment or growth at all. The feeling of “leveling up” just got lost for me completely. Until level 30 you get no specialization at all and after that, traits are still locked, no heroism for you.
You either do a very specific task (wasn’t a central Mantra at launch “play it your way”?) or you pay more than any newbie could accumulate by that time.
Worst of all, before level 80 you have no access to an actual working build because the most effective builds are usually based around grandmaster traits. That is why they are grandmaster traits. So now you have to learn to play your char AFTER reaching last level. Was that intended? Because now all the people not taking lowbie Chars for lowbie dungeons are actually right in doing so. The update somehow devalued the entire journey before 80. Now I just push to 80 asap and then start to play the char

The most important skill in that case is: learn to dodge!
Standard the skill is bound to the “v” key, but you can remap it if you prefer. The two yellow bars above your read health bar indicate your energy to doge. Observe your enemies closely. Large attacks doing a lot of damage will be telegraphed by certain animations, long gestures the enemies make. If you learn to dodge at just the right time, these attacks can’t hurt you. Beyond that, warriors usually invest in their gear in strength and precision and just kill the enemy before it has time to do enough damage.

But really, I would suggest you really spend a day or two just familiarizing yourself with the dodge ability, it will do you a lot of good in later gameplay.
If you still have a lot of issues, maybe ask in mapchat for a friendly guild that teaches newbies the best ways around. The community ingame is usually very helpful so do not feel afraid to ask =)

Good luck and all the best on your travels dear sir!

Defend Rhell Crankmane needs tweaking

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Meluna.1764

Meluna.1764

I didn’t say it’s undoable. I said it is not on par with other events of that level. The enemies spawn way too fast, attack the NPC immediately which goes down within 3 sec or less and they respawn often before I completely raised the NPC. Together with the fact that the not-downed NPC takes forever to set up the machinery makes this event very long and drawn out. I have very often saved newbies in this event that I saw downed in the area. As a vet with high lvl gear, the event is doable, but annoying. To a real newbie of lvl 15 in the area, this event will be frustrating and seemingly impossible.

It also scales weird. Saved a newbie the other day and 6 enemies spawned per wave minimum. I handled it but the newb got downed on every single wave within seconds. I felt really bad for him. This is not a high lvl area, you shouldn’t even have most of your utilities slots at that time. Two enemies per wave would be enough and let some more time between the waves so the NPC can get sth done before getting downed by the next wave.
