And to address another of your posts, whether or not Dragon Hunter is “a fine name” or not as you have purported is also merely an opinion like the ones that have suggested that it is not.

It’s definitely an opinion that it’s a good name, I don’t think that it’s an opinion that it is a name that works, though. Which is why I endeavored to debunk some of the complaints about how it somehow doesn’t fit Guardian.

I guess on this we will have to agree to disagree. I think it certainly is an opinion that the name does, in fact, work for the class. And I am not alone in this thinking by many of the well thought out objections here. In Anet’s and some people’s opinion it obviously works, however.

Everybody is welcome to their opinions. I know you feel that it isn’t an opinion that the name works. I simply disagree about that point. And that’s OK. We are both allowed to think as we wish.

Do you think it is an opinion that elementalist is a fitting name for the elementalist profession? Or warrior for warrior? I think you may still be confusing me saying the name works with me commenting on the quality of it. All I’m saying is that their are plenty of things in the game and in the profession that make the name work. It’s not an opinion that those things exist or how they relate to the profession. Whether or not that makes it a great name/the best name out there is a matter of opinion.

No, I’m not confusing the issue. I think ele and warrior are both names that work for each respective class.

I do not believe, and have seen no evidence that convinces me, that Dragonhunter works for a Guardian specialization. And yes, I have read the entire thread.

I understand you think there is evidence that shows the name works for a guardian. I do not. So therefore, until everyone agrees (and I mean everyone) that the name works, it is just opinion that it does. It is subjective thought. Everyone can make their case as to why the name does or does not work. Which is right? Both. Neither.

I have my thoughts on why it does not work. You have yours on why it does. Until we can both agree, at least on middle ground, it is just simply opinion on both our parts.

Honestly, i’ve seen no real arguments saying it does work. All i see is people like me saying it doesn’t and others saying “it DOES work, shut up” without any arguments to prove that point.

Sorry Ephemiel, but you’ve done almost nothing but tell everyone else that their opinions are wrong and for them to “shut up”, so I wouldn’t ride that high horse. In fact, you are the one who does it the most out of anybody else in this thread. Reading through the past 5 pages or so, nearly every post you made in response to another has ended with some form of “face it, your argument is bad/holds no ground and therefore you should stop”. Regardless of how you personally feel about the name, it doesn’t change the fact that, yes, people have in fact brought forth evidence for why it is good, bad, or somewhere in between. If you choose to ignore it then that is your prerogative. Don’t be so intellectually dishonest as to say that nobody has brought forth arguments that differ from yours.

A difference in preference (i.e. opinion) is not “not having a real argument”.

A lot of the content if not all of it is already hidden in the .DAT file. I wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t have to download anything at all.

Nice, that’s quite efficient!

My main concern was the stress this could place on the content delivery systems because we’re obviously talking a large amount of data to download, downloaded all at once by thousands while a time constraint was in place.

But yeah that’s good to know, thanks for the info!

Yup. Anytime you log in and see a couple of MB of data downloading without an announced update is when they’re changing something for the game file. Maybe they’re patching a bug, but sometimes they’re putting content in for later. It makes it so we don’t have to strain their servers as millions of people collectively download huge files.

Still, some huge updates they opt to do later because they are either not finished with it yet or because they don’t want the file to be datamined before it releases on the client.

A lot of the suppression in this game is nonsense. LFG and mail are probably the two biggest offenders.

Mail is there to prevent scammers from profiting too much. There were a whole string of fake scam mails that were showing up just recently; imagine if they had unbridled access to any amount of mail they wanted.

I don’t quite get why LFG has it. Maybe somebody could explain Anet’s rationale for that one. Being limited to the LFG tool, it’s out of the way unlike personal mail.

So you farmed for an item to get into a Beta and didn’t consider that you might not be able to attend?
One would assume since Anet intentionally didn’t release any timeframe for the beta that they wanted as many people as possibly farming for one.
Maybe to test the live maps for future events etc, maybe just to screw with the playerbase or perhaps they hadn’t planned exactly when the Beta was going to be.

The point really is that it’s a beta. You farmed to have a chance of entering it to help test the game. Help find bugs and ultimately stress test it

The majority of people here complaining just wanted a preview of the game and that’s not it is even remotely about.
Anet need to monitor what’s going on so it has to be during office hours (asking staff to stay out of hours isn’t exactly feasible) hence why it’s on a weekday. That honestly was always going to happen.

One of the reasons I wasn’t worried about farming one myself was due to the fact we had no info on the beta at all – #noregrets

Yeah, this exactly. My wife and I were farming heavily in the beginning, but after realizing that we would most likely either be at work or busy with other things during the betas we sort of just stopped. We both realized we wouldn’t be ideal people for testing the game if we couldn’t even play during the times. Turns out there is a slot that we could have done (we’re in EST), but I digress. I didn’t mind the 150G I made by farming SW that whole time though, and anybody that farmed more than me probably has at least similar numbers to that too (no spectacular loot, but one or two exotics worth ~10G plus everything else).

Will I need the expansion to play GW2?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MiniEquine.6014

MiniEquine.6014

sounds like pay to win.
When the expansion comes out, I’m going to look around at new MMOs made in the last few years.

First off, there’s been numerous threads proving that adding an expansion (GW2’s as well) is not Pay2Win. It’s intellectually dishonest to say it is or, at the very least, shows a lack of understanding of what Pay2Win actually means.

Secondly, any MMO with expansion content will have a similar (if not the same) process as GW2. If you enjoy GW2, and are willing to buy a whole new game for the same price or more as the GW2 expansion, a new game that you currently have 0 progress or achievements in, all because you don’t like the concept of expansions, I must question your motives. Is it the principle? Unless you don’t actually like GW2, this doesn’t make much sense.

really anet? really???? 50 hours of farming for portal and then all i got is 2 hour for beta??? 20:30-22:30 00:30-02:30, 04:30-6:30 joke times for me but its normal for EU we dont need any improve to server connect no improve lagging then we dont need normal times for beta testing.

It’s not like you’re getting the game early. Your job as a volunteer beta tester is to hunt for bugs; not to play the game. It was your choice to spend 50 hours farming for the portal and you got it. Now, you have another choice: either stay up for the first 2-hour window or go to bed early and get up for the third 2-hour window. Either way, there’s probably not enough content to even fit the entire 2-hour window as it is, so you’re complaining about not being able to realistically play all 6 hours and all I can ask is, “so?”.

“Dyeing” weapons would really make no sense.

We could do it in GW1 just saying, granted the dyes didnt effect much usually, and really i dont see them changing it this late anyways.

Well i never played GW1 so idk. Just kinda stupid to dye weapons in my opinion. How would having people with red, blue, orange, etc weapons running around?

People can run around in bright neon pink and blue-colored clothing right now. Is there really any harm to having goofy colors on weapons too? Most people probably won’t make their weapons look so gaudy, but the “breaks my immersion” argument falls flat when it can already be done. Also, they could tone down the amount that a dye affects the weapon color.

To other replys: am from Portugal europe who shares Greenwich time zone 0:00

I have a extra clock set to -7:00 UCT or something, basicly rocky mountain region (EUA/Canada)

Right now its 19:07 in my country and acording to my USA Clock it’s 12:07 (noon since noon is what i call midday)

So… Ready up didn’t start already and the guy above me said it would start at 13:00 (1 hour from)

Cleary “Noon” has alot of meanings

Noon means noon. GMT =/= UTC. RIght now, Pacific Time (the one you should be looking at) is -7 UTC, but it is also -8 GMT. That means that when it is noon on the Pacific Coast, it is 8PM in Portugal (which is +1 UTC and +0 GMT). I don’t think UTC factors in daylight savings.

Either way, you can literally type “noon PST” in the Google search bar and Google will tell you the direct conversion to your local time.

You can’t solve x-y=z without knowing any of the variables

Noon means 12:00, they already said that. Also, please refer to the link I posted above. It shows major cities and the time in those cities at noon PST.

However, you didn’t pay for more than 5 character slots when you bought the game; you paid for 5 exactly. They don’t have to give us a character slot, but the fact that they are introducing a new class is a good indicator that they might. They have said they are considering it.

Well, anything you build right now will be the combination of the same 3 trees because their missing 2 others, their elite specialization and 3-4 legends. That’s the biggest stop for Revenant theorycrafting. Beyond that, though, I feel like they’ve been a bit forgotten by the community because as it stands, they’re no longer the only “new guy”, especially now that we know that specializations are changing much more about how you play a class than many of us originally anticipated.

I think the only people that thought this were those that didn’t believe Anet when they said it would be exactly as it is. So many people were complaining “Mesmer is only getting a shield hurr”, but this flew in the face of everything that Anet had said about it before the reveals even took place.

cough Reaper shroud turns you into Grim Reaper, the avatar of death with big scythe, you are also able to chill people in fear. Everything fits perfectly with the Reaper. cough

Sure, let’s conveniently ignore the greatsword and the shouts, you know, the actual substance of the elite spec and solely focus on the profession mechanic.

I mean, the utilities could be turrets and the weapon a rifle, but it all fits perfectly, because big kitten scythe.

Greatsword fits, they made attacks feel heavy and devastating + chilling enemies in fear, you can use Scythe or Greatsword to deliver killing blow. Skills like “Gravedigger” or “Reaper’s Grasp” give nice flavor. It’s very fiting. The Reaper is just named after core mechanic you say? Then what about dragonhunter? Using your logic here like with the Reaper, there is nothing in the skills/mechanic in dragonhunter that justify it’s name! I see you chose conveniently to ignore the rest of my previous post. I have to quote myself to remind you. Any answer to this? Do I wrongly assume that consistency is important?

That’s the second time you completely ignore the shouts. Reaper as a name gives no indication what the spec is getting, outside of the class mechanic. No, greatswords and shouting have nothing to do with the Grim Reaper.

If your only justification is that greatswords are big and scary, then any horror fantasy archetype fits the bill just as good, if not better, than Reaper.

Even if you think there’s no much of a link between a Guardian and a Dragonhunter, it’s more than easy to see why a Dragonhunter would use a longbow and traps.

Yeah, Aikun, shouts are specifically more like the wails of a banshee, and the greatsword is more like a weapon for a wraith. Reapers traditional use the scythe exclusively, no swords or anything else for that matter (maybe a lantern?). You can’t, in the same breath, praise the Reaper class for these things and dismiss the Dragonhunter class for the same reasons.

However, much like how I don’t have an issue with the DH (except how the traps wouldn’t work too well on dragons), I also don’t have any issues with what the Reaper is. These classes are allowed to be a bit unconventional, and the “realistic traditionalist” approach is not the one to take for this.

WvW Players and Traits in HoT

MiniEquine.6014

My problem is with the loss of already-earned progress. Any requirements for unlocking new progression should apply to all equally, and A-net can and should determine those requirements. I do not want special treatment for any player, regardless of how they got their character to the fully-unlocked state. I’d also prefer that no one be able come into WvW with all elite skills already unlocked through PvE, while WvW players need to spend many hours in PvE for the same privilege.

PvE is how one is best able to craft and get gear in the first place though. The only thing that could make people “[not] be able to come into WvW with all elite skills already unlocked” would be to implement a system for WvW that is similar to sPvP. I personally don’t have any issues with it, but many people do. Arguably, WvW is about grinding gear and gold to get the absolute best armor, weapons, and runes/sigils because you’re going up against other players. This exists to a lesser extent in PvE (except Fractals) and it is nonexistent in sPvP.

To waypoint or not to WP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MiniEquine.6014

MiniEquine.6014

The issue that was addressed above is the only issue here that matters between a good or bad run.

Whether the dead scale the boss or not the people rezzing certainly count towards scaling and are not doing their share of the DPS. I believe that the dead don’t count towards scaling based on…

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dynamic_event#Event_scaling

“Events can detect that players have not performed any actions relating to the event within a period of time and will scale down the event accordingly.”

That being said, it will usually take longer for someone (or a couple of people) in combat to rez a dead person than it would for that dead person to waypoint and run back.

this was the second post in this thread.

you are in the way when you dont WP when dead. But thats it.

The dead do count towards scaling for a “period of time”. How long that period of time is does have an effect on whether it’s worth it or not. However, 5 people can rez a person from fully dead to alive in only a couple of seconds, so is it really even worth not rezzing them? They are able to get back into the fight and contribute additional damage that otherwise wouldn’t have been there.

Also, no, it never takes as much time for somebody to be rezzed than it does for them to WP and run back. If there’s an instance it does, then it means there’s a fight almost quite literally on top of a waypoint. (MKII is not on top of it, but the AoE damage is a good reason to tell people to run back)

An Honest HoT Assessment

MiniEquine.6014

Huh? this post makes no sense. All profession changes are part of the patch that will introduce HoT, no purchase required. The only things you will need to buy the expansion for are:

1. New maps
2. New living Story
3. Guild halls
4. POSSIBLY new legendary weapons (unclear)

Everything else is included in the base game.

This might require HoT if any of the tasks required to make them are done in the new zones. Given the massive number of things that need to be done, I could imagine them putting at least one of those tasks in the jungles per weapon.

An Honest HoT Assessment

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MiniEquine.6014

MiniEquine.6014

I’m assuming this is yet another thinly-veiled “HoT is P2W” post. As I, and many others have posted elsewhere, there are a number of things:

1) Elite specs are not necessarily more powerful, but they will open up new playstyles on classes that otherwise didn’t have them before. If they balance this, then there is no issue.

2) GW2 almost exclusively progresses horizontally (achievements, unlocks, puzzles, etc.) rather than vertically (level cap increase, gear level increase, new tier of dungeons and raids that can’t be done by the previous levels). The only real exception to this is when Ascended armor was introduced as it provided a little bit of a gear treadmill, but not much because exotics aren’t too bad as they are and they are extremely inexpensive to outfit an 80 in, even for a new player. Since the progression is horizontal, there isn’t a natural way to “prevent” people without the expansion from playing the “next level” of content, but Anet expansions are still that and people pay for the content.

3) This is nothing new. GW1 expansions had new classes and exclusive skills for those that bought the expansion packs. These players could all play together with those who didn’t have the expansion as well.

4) It’s a regular Buy2Play expansion, just like any other game. Everyone is offered the expansion for the exact same price, and no amount of extra money will give you greater benefits than other players.

5) And finally, you and anybody else that wants the new content are going to get HoT. If you are really vested in enjoying the game to its fullest, then you are going to get it anyway. This last point is less important than the first four, but it is still important anyway.

Allow each new topic poster to moderate their own thread and remove any replies as needed. This may help the OP better achieve the purpose of their thread. Less frequent thread derailing may also result also. This would also reduce the burden of forum moderators having to frequently moderate every thread constantly because posters would be able to effectively moderate it themselves. A sub-forum of each forum could be used for self moderating forums.

I don’t know if this would have any effect. Moderators would still be required to look out for “troll” OPs for blocking discussion if it doesn’t fit their tastes just so. There’s been a few people lately with some pretty inflammatory posts that they were wrong about something and trolled the whole time or what have you. The moderators could and would still be required to lock those threads down just like they do now.

If the topic is derailing, there’s always the report button. It’s there for more than just harassment.

That “small strike team” is legit crap. Ive had countless scenarios where even if we out number the enemy they just suicide themselves to kill a yak and we cant really do anything but watch. Until they add the dolyak escort buff I like these changes.

So because players that you outnumber outplayed you the game should be dumbed down and made easier for the server with more numbers and better coverage….

This kid thinks you legit get outplayed if they can kill squishy yak from you. You have jokes.

This kid doesn’t know how to use superior numbers and cc to stop someone from killing a yak.
Learn that there are more buttons on your skill bar than the auto attack…

Realistically, you’re often not going to have too many people around a particular yak when the enemy is hankering to kill it. That, and it really doesn’t take a whole lot to take it down, so even if you manage to immobilize them they could still possibly stun-break and kill the yak. They will die in the process, but they know that.

Not saying it’s impossible to do, far from it, but the Yaks should be more like mini-bosses than a random enemy. They are very easy to kill.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

MiniEquine.6014

Well the longer they prolong the reveal of all elite specs then longer it is till release, so I think that more people are interested in elite specs than WvW at the moment.

You have this backwards. HoT is not sitting on their servers ready for release once they finish getting through the elite specs; they are still working on it and however fast they reveal the elite specs doesn’t actually have an effect on when the game is released.

However, you are correct that more people are interested in the elite specs because it effects literally everyone level 80, but WvW is still an important part of the game that, arguably, doesn’t get the attention it needs already.

And here we have a great way of showing that people that complain about the lack of information actually only care about information that THEY are interested in.

This is big information, even if you personally don’t care about it.

In the OP it also seems rather clear that op don’t actually play WvW.

Translation: Doesn’t play WvW the way that all mighty LordKrall has declared it should be played

Either way I don’t see why this announcement displaced a specialization reveal. The WvW team clearly isn’t the same as the class mechanics team, so why didn’t we get a specialization reveal this week?

I wouldn’t take this out on the specialization team. Two reasons:

1) Revealing all the specs faster won’t actually make HoT come out any faster (not directly, at least. It could only be implied that HoT is further along if all the specs were finished, but let that segue into #2)

2) They said they weren’t ready to reveal the next one yet and that, as they become ready, they will announce them (presumably the next three before taking another break).

Say hello to total and utter dominance of nightcapping, once you get into the game you will always find all structures put to t3 by the 10 guys on the most perstistent nightcrew.

This is utter BS and shows again that the devs have no idea what is actually happening in their game. Metrics are all nice and shiny but you need competent people to interpret then and the again competent people to act on that interpretation. Guess what the key factor here is…

So, the problem I see with this argument is how could it be any different than it really is now specifically with regard to “who is the most persistent”? Are there groups of servers where one of the three is constantly building and attacking all night long while the other two are doing literally nothing? I find this hard to believe. The entire point of WvWvW is about which world is the most persistent, because even an “unskilled” world can get more points if they’re on when the other worlds aren’t.

I don’t think we’re getting more than 5 elite specializations. Despite that, the following are weapons that the Warrior cannot use right now:

MH Dagger
OH Dagger
MH Pistol
OH Pistol
Scepter
Focus
Torch
Shortbow
Staff
Trident

That’s 10 weapons that the Warrior can’t use right now. I’m counting MH/OF separately unless they show a class that gets one and can equip it in both hands, but in general they count as a separate weapon. Even if you count MH/OH together and ignore the aquatic weapons all-together, that still leaves 7 new weapons a Warrior spec could use (6 if not including the not-yet-revealed elite spec). This would mean that, even at 6 months between specs (which is very optimistic), there would be no less than 3 years of continual spec releases across all classes until they need to repurpose weapons.

I don’t need nor want more inventory space.

What I want is more account unlocks:

  • Toys like tonics and instruments and Tools like everlasting gathering tools and salvage-o-matic should have a tab in the bank where each character can get their own copies without having to keep them all in characters or the bank, and without having to constantly use the bank to use them with multiple characters.
  • Stats and upgrades should have a way to become unlocked an interchangeable for exotic gear for all characters of the same profession (One warrior unlocks Soldier stats, another warrior unlocks Berserker, both can switch between Berserker and Soldier), and ascended gear account-wide (any character gets Soldier ascended stats unlocked, all can use Soldier ascended stats).
    • Legendary gear would be converted to use this new system, but when a legendary item is selected to pick stats and upgrades, all would be available whether the accoount has them unlocked or not.

That way there’s not only need to carry tons of different items with you, making build templates becomes easier and the same stat system can be used for both pvp and pve.

The stat unlock sounds like a good idea, but in practice it would probably require a complete overhaul of the crafting system. It would probably mess up the TP as well. I’m not against it, but it’s completely different from what we have now.

that’s a sarcasm or you really use so much inventory slots? I think I have like maybe 6 or 7 bags on my main and it’s quite enough when you don’t carry all junks

No sarcasm. I desperately need more inventory space. I only have room for 7 armor sets. I used to have more sets but it was taking up too much space so I had to salvage them. With 360 slots I could have as much as 18 more armor sets complete with trinkets and weapons. Even worse, my bank is full as well and most of my 8 characters also have full inventories.

7 Armor sets? For what? You don’t need any armor sets for sPvP, and WvW and PvE require very little changes to armor. There are some really big diminishing returns when it comes to multiple armor sets.

What’cha got there is some dedicated hoarding. I don’t think they shouldn’t give more bag slots, but you might find it more reasonable to just invest in transmutation charges on the gem store instead of hanging on to so many items…

Only 2 classes can fear. (Plus a couple of pets and a stolen skill)

So what’s the point?

This is an excellent point. Now, some might say that the Rune of Nightmare can “give” anybody a fear, but maybe they’ll release a rune that procs taunt on players if they hit you so they can’t disengage. I think that would be really synergistic with retaliation.

You will also be able to buy the expansion online.

This part is largely irrelevant. Whether you buy a digital copy or a hard copy at a brick and mokittenoesn’t change the product.

Oh please. There are currently traits that are centered around specific weapons, but not entire traitlines. Reaper, for example, is heavily focused on using chill to your advantage. A necro has ample access to chill without having to use GS. You’re not pigeonholed into the specific weapon.

We have no cripple outside of the bow autoattack and this knockback trait, which, hey, look at that, we don’t have significant access to knockbacks other than the new bow trait. So yeah, you can still trait for other weapons too, but at the end of the day you’re still essentially traiting for two different builds rather than one cohesive, more powerful one.

Black, I think you’re a little blinded by your dislike for the spec. Here’s an example from dulfy where you can take the Dragonhunter traitline and there are literally no traits, including minor traits, that depend on traps, cripple, or the longbow

http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AgIBqAKoBuw~

You’re absolutely wrong about being “pigeon-holed” into certain playstyles with this spec. The only difference is that you can use the longbow and traps now, but you don’t have to. Some of the non-LB/trap traits are actually pretty good.

Hahahahahahahaha. Good luck lasting 10 seconds in a PvP fight without Valor. You’d be better off sacrificing the extra damage from Zeal or Radiance for it. But then again, why sacrifice those when you can just have all three and not worry about the dumb DH traits?

So you’re saying there is literally only one build for guardians and that build exclusively uses zeal, radiance, and value trait lines? You do realize that there are uses for all 5 trait lines in the meta right now, right? Since when was PvP solely about who could deal the most damage? I seem to recall the Conquest game mode favoring bunker builds too.

He’s talking about Valor, which offers some of the most relevant healing sources for Guardian (Monk Focus and Altruistic Healing).
I overall agree with him: Dragonhunter looks subpar for any non-LB build (Spear of Justice is quite a beast on a hybrid build, so I guess it might work if you like one-trick-pony style). I find Virtues more appealing than Zeal though.

So, why would he purposefully create a Strawman and assume somebody would get rid of valor as opposed to something else? Clearly nobody suggested such a thing. If you want a different build then you’re going to have to give up some traits in certain lines; that works for everything.

Because the build you linked doesn’t invest in Valor.
He said that it would be better to get rid of Zeal or Radiance instead (always Zeal IMO, Radiance looks like a must if you go DH), and even then, both feel more interesting than the DH trait selection (which is the only one you can take if you’re not using a LB).
I don’t completely agree with him on this: I think DH can effectively compete with Zeal. Not with Virtues though.

Okay, I really wasn’t paying attention to the other trait lines (hence why they were all in the middle). My point was that you could take the Dragonhunter trait line and not have any of the traits have anything to do with cripple, traps, or the longbow. The only thing that would make you change your style a bit is the “extra damage at 600+ range” grandmaster minor, but that’s not difficult to accomplish with a scepter. I should have probably worded it differently.

Box sales and expansions don’t count as content is tied to them as well. If you are able to strictly buy power over other players, that is pay to win.

So if the power is in a box sale or expansion how is that not pay to win?

Because Pay2Win is being able to repeatedly purchase power with real cash, where you outspending other players means that you have an objectively better starting point than them. You cannot spend any more money on an expansion than anybody else, and even if you can, then it is for vanity items or extra bag slots, both of which have no effect on any game mode. You cannot outspend other players with an expansion. Therefore it is Buy2Play.

But you can “play” without buying the expansion. How is it buy 2 play?

How is what Buy2Play? You can’t play the expansion content without buying the expansion. You can’t play the base game without buying the base game.

I wonder what people would call “League of Legends” if you could only buy the new champions with real money.

That would be pretty much the same. But blah blah blah. Yes Im wrong I know.

League is a Freemium game. It’s tough to compare the two. Also, you are wrong if you still don’t understand that an expansion is not Pay2Win. As others have stated, we’re not debating the definition of Pay2Win, as it is an established game payment method with a definition, but you are.

I’m talking about sPvP.
Also pay 2 win isn’t an established game payment method.
But it seems I’m talking to walls. I should have stopped 10 posts already…

We’re only walls because Pay2Win is an established method, and despite us informing you this entire thread you’ve done nothing but deny it. Feel free to think what you like, but the only wall here is you.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the trait-line is bad. I’m saying you can not use it effectively (I.E. to it’s maximal potential) without using the bow.

The bow abilities don’t seem too bad, in fact they seemed quite good, especially the multi-hit AA. Most people that take that trait line will use a bow, because it emphasizes ranged weapons. It still encourages mid-range play, so I’m probably going to make a bow/shout build and sit at 600 range.

Did you just state that the staff is an effective ranged weapon?

No, it’s completely useless outside of its symbol of swiftness IMO. Please don’t strawman my argument.

Fact is, there is a use for that Grandmaster Minor trait, but you said there was not. The scepter is an effective weapon in all game modes, and taking Dragonhunter for Scepter builds is going to be a very reasonable thing to do.

Yes, scepter does the most damage per AA in the game. On targets that are not moving. So it’s good on single target fights (because Smite does NOT hit multiple targets) which involve stationary targets. Any player worth the air they breathe will be able to dodge the slow giving projectiles. Fact is, the trait was meant for the LB.

Irrelevant. It’s still useful. That’s why it is so often used, even in PvP. Don’t let your dislike for the name obscure your ability to judge a trait critically. You sound like you want everything about this spec to be bad, but that is just objectively not the case.

The scepter is actually a very high damage weapon. Smite is incredibly powerful and can sometimes deal over 20k damage with crits, all while applying burning when you use it with F1. Don’t pretend like the scepter is bad. It’s very commonly used in both PvE speedruns and in PvP because of its damage, and right now it’s our only reliable mid-range weapon. (900 unit AA, 1200 Smite I believe). And which targets are those that it would be a problem against? in PvP it gives you commanding control of a point. They can get on point, but then they take your smite to their face. PvE is obvious,.

The staff also has some skills that would work at that range.

I challenge you to use the grandmaster trait effectively without the bow.

There is only one grandmaster trait that requires the bow, and that’s Heavy Light. The other two don’t require it at all. The Scepter is our go-to ranged weapon right now, and that would work just fine.

You don’t have “dragonhunting” abilities.

This particular part is really the thing I think we can both agree on. If they gave abilities that were specifically designed around a theoretical fight with a dragon, then it could work. They did not do this too well, since dragons can just fly over traps. They could have really given it a knight in shining armor vs dragon feel, and they fell short.
