Question About New Specializations & Weapons

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Hello,

Will you need to use the new weapon in order to use the new specialization?

E.G. When a Ranger becomes a Druid, will they pay a price for not using a staff?

Thanks

From my understanding, and from what they’ve said thus far, equipping the elite specialization will unlock a new heal, new utilities, a new elite, and a new weapon that you can use. It does not seem to be the case that you must use this weapon, but you may want to use it anyway because the elite traits will likely synergize with it except for the “1H weapon” and “2H weapon” ones. This seems especially relevant since no weapon traits in any other line will synergize with your elite spec weapon.

We’ll find out on Friday though, with the first elite spec reveal (likely the Chronomancer (Mesmer))

(notice how they said “a new way”, not “new ways”)

The wording is debatable as to what the real meaning is; it could actually mean both things (not at the same time, of course).

A new “way” as in a new shatter ability?

A new “way” as in all of your shatters function differently?

Honestly, I’m not sure. They could add an F5 skill, I suppose, but the engineers are getting an F5 by default, since they are updating how the core class functions (not just the elite spec), so I’m hesitant to think that. We’ll find out this Friday, most likely.

For a current 6/6/2 combination, my numbers are correct. If you do the math out like I explained above, it will make sense.

Your numbers for the “now” part are still incorrect. You simply added two amounts of combinations together without taking into account of all the different combinations of those combinations. (Oh dear) You did exactly the same thing for the new system (27*27*27) but no (594 *594) )

Not to mention that the 6 * 9 * 11 part is incorrect as well as it doesn’t take into account that it doesnt matter what order you pick the adept or master work traits in. (IE.: I, III, IV is the same as IV, III, I )

So no, that number is not correct at all.

A couple of things. First, please don’t use condescending “oh dears”. Explain your math or don’t bother. Now, onto the meat.

I took a look at the current system and, to my surprise, found that certain combinations produced far greater results in terms of number. For example, 6/4/2/2 produced a whopping 15,396,480 different combinations (nearly half of all possible). In all, there were 32,965,584 different combinations with the current system, but you’re right, this does not factor in repeat traits combinations but in a different order. For a filled line of traits in the current system, I have found 233 unique combinations. I used the following:

S(i=1 to 6 [i] (S(j=i+1 to 10 [j](S(k=i+2 to 13 [k])))) = # of combinations

That’s just a rough formula I used that starts at the lowest combination of traits (1,2,3) and works its way to the top with #1 (up to 6) less than #2 (up to 10) less than #3 (up to 13).

However, I did not “simply add two amounts” together. Probability is multiplicative, so I’m not sure where you thought I did that.

I don’t know where you got 594*594 from. The 27^3 is correct for the number of trait combinations in any three trait lines. If you think it’s not, please show your work. I already showed mine up above, and I’m not the only one coming to these numbers.

Edit: this forum does not like Sigma.

Comparing the numbers:
HoT – 196,830 build options
Now – 213,840 build options

Those number don’t seem like they can possibly be right. Right now, each line has 4 more traits, and we have the ability to put adept traits into master/grandmaster slots, and master traits into grandmaster slots. There is also the ability to partially invest into more than 3 lines.

The new system limits each tier of a line to only 3 choices. If I’m figuring that right, it’s only 27 possible combinations within a line. The current system has more than double the trait combinations possible per line using only the adapt and master tiers. Add in the grandmaster slot, which has a 11 options on its own (13 traits, minus the 2 already in chosen in lower tiers), and that single trait line probably has more options than all lines combined under the new system.

For a current 6/6/2 combination, my numbers are correct. If you do the math out like I explained above, it will make sense. Each of the new lines has 27 combinations, yes. Now you have 27 combinations in 3 different lines (27^3 = 3^9). Then, there are still 10 different combinations of any 3 trait lines out of 5. (1 line of 5 is 5 options, 2 lines of 5 is 10 options, 3 lines of 5 is 10 options, 4 lines of 5 is 5 options, 5 lines of 5 is 1 option.)

Trait order does not count in terms of options, so we can ignore that. Now, each line currently has more traits, but adding two additional traits to our pool significantly increases the spread.

Note: The new system will still provide less options in total, this is definitely the case. However, the number of options that it is brought down to is definitely 196,830 different combinations in the new system (10 trait line combinations * 27 trait combinations per line ^ 3 trait lines). This is far from few options, even viable ones.

Well I’m not trying to be overly critical, but nearly 10% less options is still less customization and is still the point I was making. Thats not an illusion.

The issue you’re commenting on, about this introducing more builds that will likely be competitive, is different. Not every player is interested in being viable since not every player is going to play with someone other than friends. I know quite a few players who will only play with friends or solo. Those players aren’t going to be concerned with making sure their build is considered good or bad.

But I get it. People see some increased stats and damage potential so now there will be a handful of newer builds that might be asked for in dungeons and WvW, and thats a good thing. I just don’t think anyone should continue to try and treat it like its increasing overall customization.

I agree. Technically speaking, it’s not increasing overall customization; the numbers are pretty clear. However, it’s not the only change. Unbinding stats from the trait lines may have some extraordinary effects, since you don’t have to kitten yourself for losing a 2H weapon and chest-worth of stats by going into something aside from the power and crit trait lines. It’s more the entirety of the changes they are making that would improve customizability, even if it doesn’t necessarily increase the number of options available.

Then again, I’m not a professional theorycrafter like some of the people on the forums here, so I’ll concede that I really don’t know how everything will play out. I like to think that Anet wants us to like and continue to play the game, and these changes make it feel like at least an attempt at a good thing, even if it turns out to be bad. Time will tell.

Edit: apparently, that word is chat filtered. Huh.

This looks worst the more I think about it.

My favorite Engie uses 4 trait lines. One of them is for Speedy Kits only, because that trait is just too god not to have it, and synergizes with the res of the build, but I can change it to take Explosive Descent whenever I need to.

I just take 1 trait and change it for another 1. 1 for 1. Simple, quick and easy. That was the purpose of making the system flexible and changeable on the go, am I right?

Well, now I can’t change just 1 for 1 trait. Now is 3 for 3. Always. Just to get the descent bonus and don’t die in that specific jump.

WTF.

It’s actually really annoying when you need to swap out traits right now because of the UI. You have to select a slot, which opens up the trait menu, then select the trait. With the new UI, you can just click on the new trait and bam. If you need to switch a trait line, then it’s just 4 clicks. It will take longer to switch one trait, but it will take a lot less time to switch all of them. Those are some pros and cons, at least.

I honestly don’t understand how people can always convince themselves that limiting options actually “increases” choice and customization.

You can say all you want about whether or not the changes will be good for the game, but you can’t claim that limiting a player’s options increases customization.

You actually will have 196,830 different possible trait combinations with the new system, which is only 9.2% fewer options than the one we currently have now. The illusion of being limited is just that; an illusion. If they handed us 5 builds and said “pick from these 5”, then we’d have a serious issue. We still have many choices though, and plenty of those choice will be bad just as there are plenty of choices now that are bad.

Even though we know mes aren’t getting a main hand weapon, it is curious the main hand is just out of the shot.

They won’t be receiving a new weapon aside from the shield, but I don’t know if they addressed whether or not they might have weapons they currently used switched to different hands. I’m sure there are some people who would like dual pistol mesmers. I wouldn’t get my hopes up for that, though.

On a somewhat more serious note, this at least confirms that mesmers are getting a shield…

It was confirmed with the expansion trailer anyway, just like the engineer getting the hammer, but if the shield gives them some viable AoE it might be worth it.

MiniEquine.6014

I’m not saying it IS doing this. I’m legitimately asking, curious whether others think this may be true.

I ask the question because, first of all, the Revenant: isn’t getting much skill selection from what we have seen. Weapon sets, and two legendaries which pretty much seem to fill slots 6-10 for you.

Second of all: it was that you could mix and match traits from several lines. Now, you get three. Or, two and an elite specialization. So I can essentially have three trees fully chosen, not 6 that I can pick and choose (to some extent anyway)

As such, it concerns me; it looks to me at first glance that we are having our build choices reduced for all classes, and very little choice for the Revenant at all.

But I’m not saying I’m right here, and I’d love to be proven wrong. So tell me, what do you think about this?

If you want to get really technical, there is still an insane amount of build diversity possible. Let’s look at the numbers:

You need to pick 3 of the 5 trait lines. There are 10 different trait line combinations you can make from this requirement. For each trait line you choose, you must pick 1 adept, 1 master, and 1 grand master trait, each of 3. What you essentially have are 10*3^9 total possible build options.

Now, take what we currently have. We’ll use a 6/6/2 build for comparison, as it’s fairly common and provides the closest similar structure. You have 6 adept choices * 9 master choices (masters + adepts remaining) * 11 grand master choices (grand masters + masters remaining + adepts remaining) * 2 trait lines filled * 10 possible combinations of two filled trait lines * 3 remaining possible trait lines * 6 possible adept traits in that 3rd line. Right off the bat, you can see this is very confusing comparatively.

Comparing the numbers:
HoT – 196,830 build options
Now – 213,840 build options

We really aren’t losing many options. What we are losing are multiple instances of traits that are outright terrible or belong in a different trait line. There’s no doubt that almost 100% of the builds generated in both structures are either useless or less optimal, but the fact is that diversity is hardly affected (9.2% reduction in total options). Never mind the fact that your stat points are no longer bound to trait lines so now you’ll be able to take the more defensive trait lines while not hampering your damage so much.

Well we were told that specializations would be revealed starting this week. We were also told that each week would be a dedicated full reveal. Today starts the week so which class do you think we will be revealed first?

My bet is on ele since they let the name and picture slip in the live stream. Druid is the other obvious choice since they already told us the name. Third most likely is Necro since we know their weapon. I find it unlikely it will be any of the other classes, though the devs really dislike necro so it probably won’t be them either.

I would imagine that the order in which they announced them in the live stream is not dissimilar to the order in which they will be announced in their weekly reveals. It’s a little bit of assumption, because they really don’t have to do this, but since Tempest does seem to be the first one, and elementalists went first, it’s some evidence.

Actually, it is a bit disturbing that there are 11 lines there, even if one is the elite spec. Consider that it is one thing to pick 3 out of 5 (or 6) trait lines, but 3 out of 11 is another matter. And ‘Signets’ as a line? Does that mean no signets at all in other lines?

Signets would not be a line. They addressed that there are only 5 trait lines, a 6th I suppose for the elite specialization. Those choices are for unlocking abilities, and they grouped them together by type instead of by rank. This feels a lot more organized. If you want signets sooner, focus on unlocking the signets; then you’ll have them.

The water magic skills almost match up with the number of weapon skills an Elementalist can have per attunement. Maybe that’s what is tied to it?

So I hope the Hero Panel Equipment page will have a slot to put in the elite spec weapon set, just as we have underwater slots to store our underwater weapons when running about on dry land.

I can only imagine that this is exactly what they have in mind for it. Much like how you can’t pull your underwater weapons out unless you’re under water, you likely wouldn’t be able to pull your spec weapon out unless you swap.

I have 18 Characters and 4 of them was under the NPE rules .. never again il will level a toon under the NPE it was horrible and frustrating .

I have 1 level 20 scroll , 60 tomes , 360 skill points and 46 gold exclusively reserved for my Revenant. Insta lvl 80 with all skill and traits. All future toons will receive the same treatment.

Are you waiting for the class to be revealed before crafting your gear? if so Im kind of curious what gear you’ll end up crafting for it?

You could always just build full celestial. You’ll at least deal decent damage and be able to survive everything anyway. Especially with the legend swapping changing your playstyle, it would give you a broader reach with your skills (changing from condition focuses to power focuses, for example, or maybe support when needed).

celestial set are rarely good. you don’t know anything about the class to be able to suggest building a set that takes up to 60 days to make.

The celestial set is very good when you’re a class that benefits greatly by having an even distribution of stats. Elementalists and Engineers are excellent examples of how it can be a great set. I only bring up celestial because Revenants will fit a heavy armor jack-of-all-trades role, since each legend will benefit different stat and build types. If you’re legend switching mid combat, you will not be able to switch your armor, so at least with celestial you could maintain decent damage and support.

Also, celestial gear provides about 58% effectiveness in total, without any boons, of any particular gear set. The gear tends to have 30-40% more total stats than any other gear type too, so it’s not like using it will kitten you terribly, unless you’re a dungeon speed runner.

Don't you do it anet! (spec blog feedback)

MiniEquine.6014

This is my review of the two blogs anet has put up regarding specializations Now it seems like a hate post but it’s not, its a warning to anet of what kind of problems will fall into the game if this isn’t stopped or at least seriously rethought and reworked..

1 line reduction:

So anet said that they will be limiting traits from 5 to 3 and merging ‘some’ traits together while moving or removing ‘useless’ traits.

The first problem with this is freeform builds, not everybody is compelled to spend 6 points to a line unless A: they want a grandmaster trait or B: they want to grab an extra adept or master trait. People who don’t spend 6 points in 2 lines will easilly be branching into 4-5 lines for their builds, collecting all the traits they feel makes their build special.

If anet hammers this change onto us we won’t be able to freeform build as much, because we will essentially be forced to spend 6/5/5 There won’t be any real freeform builds. Everyone will have to pick 3 lines then dedicate full into those lines while choosing just one of them to max out.

More power! You now get to select nine major traits instead of seven, including three grandmaster traits.

So basically everyone is spending 6/6/6 not 6/5/5 as you suggest. Meaning we can max out 3 lines instead of the 2 we curgently can. Seeing as you can’t even read the very limited information we have available perhaps you should reserve judgement before writing a novel based on incorrect information…

Another person who didn’t bother to even read carefully why do you people strike my posts when you don’t stop to even understand what I just said.

This is MY FEEDBACK TO anet for what they posted and I’m not the only person unhappy here the forums are flooding with people unhappy about it because its going to robe them of their build diversity and force them to sit in a small cubical build with no real options on how to play.

Because you didn’t bother to read and understand the original blog post. Half of your feedback is based on incorrect information.

stop talking, you clearly don’t know what I’m saying.

You misread the article, just accept it and adjust your views accordingly. Everyone will pick 3 trait lines and those 3 trait lines WILL get maxed out. You get 3 of each adept, master, and grand master traits in EACH line.

If you are going to complain about it, please base your complaints about the facts that were pointed out, not what you thought it said.

Edit: you get 3 of each, not 2. my bad.

Look the thing that I loved about gw1 was the 1000s of skills available to my character…but I eventually grew up and realized that you still only use a small set of these skills. The people who are going to complain about losing access to those two trait lines, need to go back and really look at their builds and see that the overwhelming majority of the time, they are going to have two trait lines that they weren’t using anyways. or if they were it was for some negligible minor trait… especially since (using the water ele traits that have been revealed as a example) the traits seem to be getting better and doing more.

Im afraid i disagree.

I have 5 builds that i like to use for different scenarios on my warrior as follows and for when im just bored with one.

6,0,4,0,4 (shin’s build) for WvW
2,0,6,0,6 (TDM legendary 3.0) for WvW
0,0,6,2,6 (leg specialist GS/hammer) for WvW
0,5,0,6,3 (Phalanx Strength) for dungeons
0,5,6,0,3 (forceful GS) for Silverwastes.

As you can i see i go 6 deep in every trait line except ARMS (i go 5) . If im forced to only be able to spec into 3 trait lines im going to get bored real quick.

umm, all 5 of your builds utilizes only 3 trait lines. We get 3 full trait lines. So… what’s the problem?

OK correct me if im wrong but i can only choose 3 trait lines or can i swap the 3 trait lines for other 3 trait lines at any time? What im saying if im forced to choose Defense, Tactics and Discipline. Can i switch them the next day for Strength, Defense and Discipline for my other build? Or am i stuck with my first 3 choices forever?

You’ve never been locked in before, except when you’re in combat. It would be no different than it is currently, where you can refund your traits and put them in another set of lines if you want.

Maybe they will incorporate these into the minor traits of the lines that gave them previously. Since they really don’t exist on equipment aside from one type, I could see this being a potential solution. They talk about the Elementalist attunement CD reduction in the same way, where it’s now naturally shorter and, if you spec into arcane, it gets reduced down to the minimum CD value.

You could always just roll Celestial stats. Revenants will likely be some sort of jack-of-all-trades class with their legend swapping, and Celestial will give you a decent amount of strength and survivability to fit any role you’d like, as well as the fact that it gives more total stats overall (between 30-40% more points). This is especially visible between the Jalis and Mallyx legendaries they show, where Condition/Power/X seems good for Mallyx but Power/Toughness/X seems good for Jalis.

The only exception is that turrets do not move, but their effectiveness in sPvP is such that this doesn’t seem to be much of an issue.

I honestly haven’t heard any turreteers crying about this though. The build is almost completely about defensive strategy and placement, as opposed to an offensive assault build that encompasses the usual people who complain about turrets in the first place (for obvious reasons). That does not make it brain dead in any way.

Why should engineer “pets” be excluded from the same thing, other classes “pets” can have given to them by allies? Same story.

Yes, thank you for summing up the fact that I would rather not randomly waste my charges or rolls upon the Black Lion chest login reward.

Now, moving on from that point, I would like something to actually DO with 300+ charges.

I don’t know why having so many of these is an issue to you. They don’t take up any inventory slots and they’re there to change the look of armor if you want to. Should everything have multiple purposes? Why don’t you suggest an alternative purpose for these instead of just saying it’s an issue without any reasons aside from you not caring how your armor looks? Surely you hold some regard for them existing, since you don’t want to waste them.

AoE fields that are too big and spamable

in PvP

Posted by: MiniEquine.6014

MiniEquine.6014

Do not talk about classes with low self condition cleanse in the second main paragraph if it’s not your main focus. AoE conditions gets “nullified” by the fact that there is usually a couple of Celestial classes that are able to perform AoE condition cleanse.

“On Topic”: I don’t think AoEs are big nor spammable. They may feel a little abussive in some circumstances due the Conquest nature. Some AoE can fill a good portion of the capture point but: a) they don’t do a lot of damage if they are spammable and b) tank or classes with high sustain are the ones to stay on point, therefore eating AoE is necessary if you want to capture a game.

Outside of the capture points I can even argue that AoE are too big, being this game mode so mobile. As I said, some of them can be very effective thanks to the capture points (grenades for everyone! Yey!).

So yeah, I don’t think they are big nor spammable. And again, don’t talk about classes with low condition cleanse if then you are going to be bad mannered to other player. Peace

I don’t think I was being bad mannered, if someone is asking irrelevant questions because they couldn’t be bother to read the post properly. Pretty much the same as you have done. Read the post again, I suggested that the big aoe field(s) should be reduced in size and spamability “or” give more condition removal to classes that have limited access to it.

“on topic”: thanks for your opinion. Peace to you too

A couple of things. It was not an irrelevant question that Sagat asked. Different classes have different levels of mobility through access to swiftness, cripple removal, vigor, and if they can teleport or not. The point that Sagat was trying to make is maybe it’s not about the condition fields themselves, but a particular class’s ability to react to those fields, thereby considering a small rework of one class as opposed to going through every condition field and shrinking them down. Not taking this aspect into consideration at all would not be beneficial to the conversation.

As for the size of the fields, I have been in the middle of some huge condition bombs. We’re talking massive scale, covering the entire middle point in Legacy of the Foefire kind of big. That particular example is not one AoE field, mind you, but I don’t think it makes sense to be able to escape from something like that, not without teleports. According to the wiki, the Elementalist Meteor Shower has a radius of 360 units, and dodge rolls will give you 300 units over .75 seconds per dodge. The only time you can’t double dodge out of these fields is if you are immobilized, chilled, or crippled; which is the point. Even then, as long as you’re not standing dead-center, you should be able to sometimes even just walk out of the AoE.

I’m not too sure it’s a big problem, to be honest. Condition is tough to deal with, sometimes, but an AoE condition build is not going to just steamroll over everyone.

I would like it, if just to save me from having to backtrack every time I see experience flash in front of me from a kill I participated in ten seconds ago and moved on from. I’ve had enough valuable loot drop behind me to fuel my paranoia. Especially as Anet adds larger events like the Silverwastes that require a lot of moving from place to place from enemy wave to enemy wave it seems like a good idea.

I can’t imagine it would break immersion. You can already gather a large amount of loot from a wide adjacent area without actually having to loot the bodies. It works well in WvW and because it makes it less likely we’ll miss drops it’s generally superior to what we have in PvE.

It’s always weird for me when I switch from playing WvW for a long time to PvE and remember that I have to go get the drops on my nonmelee characters. I’m sure I’ve missed some just because you get out of the habit of it while playing in the mists.

Just to add to your paranoia, imagining all the possible times a precursor might have dropped…You can always take solace in the fact that it almost definitely did not, but you never know!

Will Zerker be meta for Revenant? (PvE)

Its pretty much guaranteed to be glass direct damage. But at the same time it could be assassins. So either way you are probably best waiting and just saving up the mats and components for crafting.

Even with improved conditions in HoT. Direct still has far superior maximum potential and benefits more from group buffs. One thing can be certain though. Theres no way Celestial will ever be meta for any class in PvE. The very concept of cele is to provide a balance of everything with no maximum efficiency in any area. You will have wasted stats no matter how well a class can take advantage of most of them.

I’m not willing to call Condi out yet, it depends not only on how far they go with systems changes (increasing the stack is likely only part of it), but also on any possible skill and trait changes (which are also very possible)

Agreed with the trait part. An awful lot of traits designed to help condition builds in the first place are better used in direct damage builds.

I’m looking at you “target the maimed”; “target the weak”; “attack of opportunity” etc…

Not only condition damage is backloaded (which is expected) but the max dps achievable by condi builds is still lower than the max dps reached by direct damage build (which is unacceptable).

i would not call it unacceptable, because condition builds are easier to play than direct damage builds and it wouldnt be fair if you can deal the same amount of dps with little effort.
other than that, with the removed condition cap condition builds will be almost as strong as normal damage builds.

I’m not sure where you got that notion from, but conditions tend to be more difficult for people to play correctly. Trying to balance which of your condition application skills are on cooldown with the remaining ticking conditions on the enemy is no small task, on top of losing your conditions on an enemy that dies and needing to make sure they all get reapplied to the next target. Conversely, merely using your powerful skills when they come off of cooldown is all a power build requires, so it’s quite the opposite.

I know this example is not perfect, but back when I played WoW I was a Feral DPS (the cat) which primarily relied on the heavy application of bleeds, not dissimilar to GW2 bleeding conditions. It was rarely played because of how difficult it was, but it’s output was really high if you were able to nail the rotation. GW2 doesn’t exactly have that, but it’s somewhat the same.

Guild Wars 2 lacks of italian subtitles… How is it possible that a game based on such a good structured PvE could fail so badly in something as easy as a translation?

Translating all of the text in a game is no easy or small matter. I’m not saying they shouldn’t consider implementing it, but it means hiring on new people, presumably because whoever did Italian last time isn’t with them anymore, otherwise they might have it.

Though your English does seem pretty good, so I’m not sure how you’re not understanding a good amount of the quest/PvE info.

Until a game that is exactly like Guild Wars 2 comes out and does everything it does better, I can’t see myself playing another MMO honestly. Especially because this has no sub fee

Honestly, this is what does it for me too, but especially the bolded part. I used to play WoW and I sunk a couple hundred dollars into that just for monthly subscription fees. I felt like I had to play, so I chose to no longer pay for it. GW2 comes around, as good as it is, and doesn’t have a subscription fee? I don’t care how good anyone else’s game plays if it’s going to cost 10-30 times as much to play it compared to this one.

This might be a reason they give for the lack of trust, but it might not also. Using history as an indicator, tribal cultures are, often out of necessity, very closed-off from and untrusting of other tribes/cultures. I’m sure that the pact ships crashing into their forest didn’t help the cause, so there may be something there.

I imagine there might be a mixed bag of reactions from the different tribes and NPCs, or at least I hope this is the case. I think it makes each interaction more interesting.

You can even tell it to ignore events if you’re just looking to map complete.

It’s absolutely not gonna happen, for warriors or for any other class. They aren’t adding new weapon types, which includes a 2-H axe. That’s not to say you’re wrong, because they do want bigger axes, but that’s what Anet has said.

I want to try again in the dungeon but i have a feeling the same thing will happen… ill try to watch the story and just get ditched again. If you ask why i dont run it with friends… well im new here i know no one :p

Sorry for ranting or whatever I just want to know if this is the normal occurrence that i should expect trying to do a story mode dungeon

This is a pretty typical occurrence with the dungeons, but fear not! The best option for you to experience the story as it folds out is to make your own party. It’s not difficult, and there are no special requirements or responsibilities that the party “leader” has to do. Go to the LFG tool and make a party with it. When there, make sure you say that it’s a story run and that you are “WATCHING ALL CUTSCENES” (caps optional). Most all people that would join a group like this (like me) are willing to hang around and experience the dungeon to do something different and to help newer people.

You will find this happening in the non-story modes as well, but making your own dungeon runs is something you’ll get used to. You seem like a well-intentioned and good person, so you’ll have no trouble making friends in the new mode. Just be aware, your party might mostly consist of newer people, so it might take some time.

Happy hunting!

Just because it’s a known fact that the human gods exist (or at least used to exist) doesn’t mean all humans would worship them.

A lot of things are known to exist in Tyria, including many beings more powerful than humans which other races/groups worship, among them the norn spirits of the wild, the Pale Tree and the Dream, the Elder Dragons, the destroyers, the sun, various elemental forces. If humans don’t worship all of those then simply saying the gods are known to exist doesn’t mean they should worship them.

In fact having irrefutable proof that their gods existed was part of what caused the charr to stop worshipping gods. I think it was mainly the fact that they could be killed by humans but realising that first the titans and then the destroyers were real, physical, living beings was a big part of that.

The OP isn’t talking about worshipping them though, they are talking about believing in them. Nobody has to worship the gods, but when it comes to the GW2 universe, you might as well doubt the existence of trees, swords, Quaggan, and literally everything else if you’re going to “not believe in the gods”. There’s nothing to not believeabout them, since they are literally there. This is, of course, completely different from the real world, where it’s easy to doubt the existence of any of Earth’s gods, but that’s because they don’t heal you when you press 7.

See it like this, Tyria != the real world. In Tyria gods are very important to the human race, not believing in them is out of the question. I know it’s very popular to get and do whatever you want in this century, but I really don’t agree with it.

the gods are real so i don’t really see not believing in them as an option
i think what you mean to say is that you dont want to worship any of the known gods

I truly fail to see why the fact that the gods interacted with humans would have to cause anyone to believe that they exist. After all, you can be a US senator and not believe in global warming.

Has global warming ever had a conversation with anyone? This is the difference between a concept and a tangible thing. The gods of Tyria are tangible, or were when they actually hung around. Global Warming is a concept that is difficult for some people to understand, because it’s not tangible.

I’m pretty sure they forgot the “/s”.

as vakrir said he gets about a 50% succes rate now, i get about 10 % on my thief as you used to be able to teleport up and down pretty easily (or for example up the choke gates (at SE/SWC)) or when you die as a thief up on the lil’ ledge on a tower or keep there is NO way as a thief to teleport away/off the ledge. they have destroyed a good mechanic in the game and punish the many for the VERY Few that abuse it

That is exactly the reason they implemented this though; they don’t want it so that you are able to teleport farther than you should be able to, or to get to places that classes without a teleport literally can’t get to.

There are no official info, or any interview which say it right? So everyone just interpret it in their own way base on the blog anet posted.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/a-legendary-journey/

And my interpretation is there are no official word that the new precursor can’t drop from mystic forge/open world. Only ting they say is it will be account bound.

Yeah, in rereading I’ll grant you that. We might be able to find new precursors as drops, which would make sense. An excerpt from the article:
This crafting system is an account-based activity, which means you’ll only be able to craft each precursor this way once. However, all of the currently existing precursor acquisition methods will remain intact in addition to this new acquisition method. That means that if you want a particular precursor more than once, you’ll have to fall back to the original methods of acquisition.

And you also notice Anet stress that people can get more than one of the same precursor for the old ones. If people want more of the same new legendary how will people be able to get it?

So my interpretation is I don’t know, and I doubt any one knows until Anet release more info.

This is why I’m going to change my personal assumption that they will also be obtainable through drops/Mystic Forge. You can always re-skin your weapons if you want the look, but it would seem sort of odd if you could only ever get one of the items, especially since the old legendaries could exist multiple times in your inventory.

Players will generally always go for easiest and quickest methods of acquisition. If the new system is easier then precursor prices will drop due to demand going down. If it’s easier to farm gold and get your precursor that way, then prices will stay high due to high demand. It actually has the chance to be a fairly balanced method and I am sure that prices will stabilize around an amount that keeps buying or the new mastery method around the same amount of time vs. money.

P.S. This should have been implemented ages ago.

It’s not necessarily always ease that determines this. I tend to find that people are more willing to choose the more stable, reliable method for obtaining what they want instead of just hoping for unreasonable odds. It’s like planning for retirement by investing in lottery tickets (RNG loot drop/Mystic Forge) or working a steady job for 50 years (upcoming Precursor crafting) or working a volatile job in the stock market (farming gold/playing the trading post). Some people try a combination of all of them, but the only way you’ll be guaranteed the end goal is hard work either way.

need to see if the new precursor can be forged and if it is tradable.

If the new precursor is forgeable but non tradable. That means the old precursor will only have 50% chance of dropping.

New precursors can only be crafted by a very, very long process.

Old precursors can either be crafted by the same process, or they can be found/obtained through RNG, or they can be bought.

All new precursors and old precursors that are crafted will become account bound. All old precursors that are found/obtained will remain tradable.

  • Only one crafting per account and precursors. (Translation was confusing on this)
  • All new Legendaries and their precursors are not tradeable!

These two things are quite interesting. I’m a bit concerned by the “only one per account” bit here. Only having access to one legendary to craft…ever? That seems like a pretty raw deal. Many weapons can’t be used for multiple professions, so I don’t really know why they would limit this…unless they really mean one precursor per account? That would make more sense, honestly.

Non tradeable is completely awesome though. Let the legendaries be legendary; no credit card heroes, thank you!

Read the article and not the bullet points. It’s per weapon type. Only the new legendaries, the ones that currently are not available, will not be sellable.

Oh good. I would have not enjoyed only being able to make one legendary. Also, I knew they weren’t gonna do anything to the old legendaries, but those are just RNG drops so I really couldn’t care less about them anyway. It is exciting new either way.

Again…. I am aware that this is just a beta and there will be more.

Unfortunately, you clearly did not understand the purpose of this “beta”. It was a stress test, it was not the beta that will come later. If you have trouble understanding that, then sorry, but you did not read the emails or the news about this stress test. This is not a beta as you clearly think it was.

Please read the emails they send you more carefully to understand what, exactly, it is you are supposed to be testing, if you get the opportunity to test it again. It’s people like you that make me wish that I, and many other people, got the invite instead, since you really had no idea what was going on.

Little things you would love to see in HOT

MiniEquine.6014

*Raid Dungeons

This would be cool. Even if it’s something like two groups of 5 trying to finish it or something. The extra difficulty of added teamwork would make for an interesting time.

*Ground Mounts

Literally no reason for this. We have waypoints; instant teleports for every single class. Ground mounts are superfluous in this context and I sincerely hope they never implement them, so long as waypoints are in the zones. I could see a new, barren region with them, maybe.

*Trinity in PvP

In…PvP? Wat. Do you mean PvE? Trinity already exists in PvP because you have some people that dedicate their builds to tanky bunkering, excess healing, and extra damage; something you do not see in PvE. However, GW2 works fine without it anyway, and they would have to completely rebuild the combat system.

*Arial Combat

No complaints against this one. Would be difficult to implement, but if we can glide soon, who’s to say we can’t drop some grenades or fireballs as well?

*WvW gets EOTM features and new features
*EOTM cycles the current map as well as the EB map.

Sure.

*New Mobile Siege weapons

Current weapons are cheap, mobile weapons would be incredibly slow. Also, siege golems. However, it would be intimidating, so…maybe?

*Weapon Size slider to make weapons larger for bigger races, mainly 1 handers.

Larger for bigger races? Their weapons are already big. I wouldn’t mind a slider for the smaller races though, ‘cause there’s almost no point in transmuting weapon skins on Asura or small humans.

I need a small help please :).

The world zones are all incorporated into megaservers, meaning when you’re running around a zone and don’t see many people in it, there are simply not that many people in that zone on any server. Typically, people may be off doing something else. However, the only thing not affected by the megaservers are the WvW servers, which are exclusive to the three worlds currently fighting each other. Since this seems like something you would like to try (you don’t need to be 80 to do it, but it helps), check the following page out:
https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/na/wvw

The top 3 servers are the busiest, but I’m in Fort Aspenwood (4th) and it seems pretty reasonable.

Sinister trinkets such as Wynne’s Locket are not available to players who don’t have Season 2 of the Living Story unlocked. This means they must buy Season 2 (with gems) for the gear. Now players can certainly buy gems with gold, but one wonders:

Will this also be a feature of HoT?

What, exactly, are you referring to by “feature”? Firstly, this is not P2W. P2W explicitly gives players that spend real money an unfair advantage with stats or gear that is unobtainable to the players that don’t spend extra. The Sinister stat combo is not inherently more effective than other combos. Secondly, LWS2 was free as it was being released. It now needs to be unlocked for not a whole lot. For them not charging a monthly fee, toss some money at them to support them if you wish, or don’t if you do not. Not having a single Sinister stat combo trinket will not, in the slightest, make or break your character.

Press “B”, enter your server Borderland map, go to the east side of the area you spawn, craft wherever you want, then press “B”, press leave map, you’ll be exactly where you were before.
Besides there is a Trading Post really close to where you spawn in your WvW BL

This is generally pretty reliable. I often use the sPvP lobby for TP and banking since there are sometimes queues for even the BLs on my server, but if you don’t have those, then WvW is great for this.
