No thnaks 40euro for 1 weapon for each class and reworked traits ? maybe a few maps …
Not worth …. max I’m willing to give is 20 Euro and only to check what Necro Great Sword is about …

You’re missing a few features there, like, 90% of them.

Like what ? Precursor craft ? Flying? Useless Mastery Abilities ? Revenant 2 handed hammer throwing ranger? LOL
1 Wvw map
Quite poor update but this is my Pov. and if you don’t like move along sorry …

Only 2 things are exciting Guild halls and new wepons for classes …. but again just my POV

You said:

You might not personally feel like the expansion is going to fit your need for quantity of content, but don’t be disingenuous and pretend like it isn’t coming out with more than you say it is to fit a particular agenda of yours, whatever it may be. From what you’ve typed in your past two posts, you clearly do not know about all of the things they’ve announced so far as you leave most of them out, which is why I called you out on it.

Your opinion isn’t an opinion if you’re claiming for a fact that it’s merely “one more weapon per class and some masteries, maybe a map”.

As long as there is no scientific proof, that no deities exists, atheism is a form of belief.

That form of thinking wouldn’t get too far, that’s like saying as long as there’s no scientific proof that I have fairies in my garden, you saying that they dont is a matter of belief.

Do you believe that the universe was created by some form of “deity” or do you believe that the universe created itself or do you believe that the universe was “always there” and was never created or do you believe nothing of the above?

(and with “universe” I mean the universe including the moment of the “big bang”).

Science can not answer why there was a “big bang” and what was before the “big bang”. So the answer to the above question depends not on scientific evidence or proof, but on your belief.

Thats what I meant originally. And it was not about the kids that are playing halloween in your garden.

That seems pretty speculative saying that science cannot answer those questions. Just because it hasn’t yet been answered doesn’t mean it is unanswerable. A fair way to state it would be that, given the information we have at the moment, science has not come to a working conclusion about the origins of the universe (or potentially lack thereof).

In fact, in many situations, I think it’s personally reasonable to not have any opinion or belief about what there isn’t enough evidence for. What is the point of merely speculating about before the 1×10^-36 seconds after the universe’s “beginning” as we know it, when there isn’t even any data for it? It’s sort of like considering all fan-fiction for a particular work to be valid so long as it takes place outside of the source story.

[Video] SD/Turret build!

in Engineer

MiniEquine.6014

Got a couple questions.

First off, why take all turrets but not Accelerant-Packed Turrets trait? The CC provided is good for landing burst, securing revives and stomps. I see you went 3 into Alchemy for the minor which can indeed be useful but personally I’d think going 2 into Explosives is far more beneficial.

Secondly, Scope is a decent trait but will give you 0 benefits for Blunderbuss (since you wanna be up close with it obviously). Wouldn’t Deployable Turrets be more useful for it? Combined with 2 in Explosives it would give you plenty of interrupts from further away.

Note that these are both my personal opinions and I’m not telling you that this is how you must or should play =P.

The build looks pretty solid and fun to play, keep it up.

I took a shot at this build last night and boy was it fun. I did make minor changes to the traits:

- Removed the point for transmute
- Added a point for APT
- Changed Tools GM trait to Armor Mods

I kept Scope, because it makes you more effective at all ranges, not just up close. If you’re chasing somebody, then you can ping them for extra critical hip shots. Also, the trait only says “extra critical chance against enemies 600+ units away”, which includes your static discharge. I was finding I could deal upwards of 10k burst damage in in some scenarios, instantly downing elementalists or thieves. I am not much a fan of Deployable Turrets. Your turrets don’t last very long, but this build doesn’t need them to, and the healing turret does become less effective with DT.

Needless to say it’s gonna require more testing, but there’s some great potential for this yet.

Suggestion: Poison Stacking, Heal Reduction

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MiniEquine.6014

MiniEquine.6014

Gotta be honest… not a fan of this idea. Poison is a great counterplay to healing, and it is great in that the hefty reduction to healing forces a reaction. I’m speaking here from both a heal/support player and a condi player perspective.

Like I said before though, it’s fine as it is for a duration-stacking condition. I’m just trying to see how it would make sense to change the condition type to intensity-stacking and not change its effects. As it is, multiple skills will likely apply more than one poison stack. There are instances where 10 bleeds can be applied at once; I don’t see any reason why the thief dagger AA chain #3 can’t apply 5 stacks per hit or something.

Does anybody remember seeing anything in the first beta about how poison worked? Did it stack back then, or was it still duration?

Anet specifically said they would not be introducing “new dungeons” in HoT.

You got a source for that?

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2:_Heart_of_Thorns

There are two things.

1. In one of their posts or videos, they stated that all major content categories have already been revealed. That includes stuff like Masteries, Elite Specs, new WvW map, new PvP map/game mode, Guild Halls, Adventures, Outposts, Revenant, and “Challenging Content”. I’m trying to find the video of where I heard it, and I’ll keep looking (I’m at work so it might not be right away), but this “challenging content” was said to be in lieu of instanced dungeons because they wanted to provide open-world challenging content instead.

2. The official Wiki (above) doesn’t have a category for dungeons, per se; heck, it doesn’t list anything for fractals either outside of the mastery track. What I think might happen is that the “challenging [group] content” might be something like the guild challenges that take place in the open world but require a party or something. Hopefully this week is the reveal for this stuff, because so far we haven’t received much information about it at all.

It might not be satisfactory for what you’re looking for, but it’s all I can provide right now. If you happen to find something that says they might add it, I’d like to see it too. They indicated they already revealed everything major though, and dungeons aren’t in that list.

"DragonHunter" name feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

MiniEquine.6014

They won’t change it, they’re convinced their reasons are enough to keep the name Dragonhunter. If they cared even a little bit, they would’ve said something, so far they haven’t.

They did say something, way at the beginning of the thread. Take it for what it’s worth; I’m not remarking on how they said it or why, but they did say something. It really did sound like their mind was made up far earlier than when they even released the spec, and either nobody at Anet was concerned with the name or concerns were brought up but they figured it out and shelved it until the reveal.

Honestly, they’re probably picking the safer choice by not saying anything. Look at it this way:

If they come back to the thread and say “We’ve reconsidered the name and have changed it to X”, a different group of people will be upset, another confused, and yet another not even realize it’s happened. They could have done this through a vote or poll, but it’s been shown that there’s no clear winner right now with the names. Some come to mind, but at a minimum there’s about 4 or 5 that people fervently want.

If they come back to the thread and say “We have made the decision to keep the name because X”, the thread will continue and it will be said that they simply don’t care about the people who don’t like the name.

If they simply don’t respond beyond the official response at the beginning, they only leave people to wonder their considerations. Who knows, maybe they are deliberating changing it, but right now the signs point to “no”, and to just tell the thread again might be seen as rubbing it in the face of the users in this thread.

I don’t know where people keep getting the assertion that HoT won’t have any instanced group content – Dungeons, Fractals etc – when we know nothing about the ‘challenging group content’ that’s been mentioned and we know that the Wyvern fight isn’t what Anet considers as part of the ‘challenging group content’.

Given how there’ll be a Fractal Mastery line I’d be shocked if there weren’t additions to the Fractals.

Anet specifically said they would not be introducing “new dungeons” in HoT. I could see them having a dungeon mastery track, but whatever the “challenging content” is they are adding in HoT is, is whatever they think is a suitable replacement for dungeons. Though, Fractals are technically their own thing, and I don’t recall them saying they wouldn’t be adding new Fractals…

What I would REALLY like to see is the introduction of Living World Season 1 story parts into the Fractals. I was not playing the game at the time, and I feel like I missed a LOT. I’m not alone in this either.

Stronghold Lord should heal when ooc

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MiniEquine.6014

MiniEquine.6014

This game mode is refreshing, and having the lord NOT heal is probably one of the best things about it. Unlike in LotF, the lord in Stronghold is the key to victory, not just a boost. If the lord healed, then all the other team would need to do is just barely keep him alive and bam, before you know it full health; all that progression lost.

And that, I think, is the point: progression. It felt so good knowing that I could help take down their lord and, if I died in the process, it was not all for naught.

Besides, like others have said, if your lord running out of health is an issue then just run some area healing. It can go a long way.

I do love people that say “take a break, come back for xpac”

Because it’s a reasonable thing to do. If you aren’t having fun right now, there are other things you can do in the interim. If they slow or stop production on the expansion, it’s just going to come out later.

The great thing about gw2 was, i could do that and not pay to come back.

And you still can. You can technically continue to play the game without buying the expansion. Many people have left the game for sometimes years and came back later without an issue. The only change here is, if you only come back once the expansion drops, is you’ll have to get the expansion for future updates to the game.

Now I’m gonna have to pay to come back? Why should I, when there are lots of f2p releases out there that can take my gemstore money.

I don’t think you realize what “F2P” means if they are going to take your “gemstore money”. Do you mean Freemium games? GW2 is classified as Buy2Play with the new addition of Expansion Buy2Play. You could come back before the expansion hits the stores; then you technically won’t be paying to come back :P . Thing is, confusing GW2 for a F2P game is the issue. It’s not comparable because it’s B2P.

Then when i’ve invested in another game, thats even less chance of me coming back to it..?

That’s an inherent risk Anet is taking. If you really love GW2, chances are you will definitely come back, even if you find another game you like. Believe this: many people have multiple games they play and enjoy. Right now I play a lot of GW2, but I used to play LoL a lot, now I play some Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm. When HoT releases I’ll almost assuredly be playing that exclusively. Don’t feel like you’re not allowed to play more than one game at a time.

When humans perform the Dagger Storm, they twirl around in a dramatically unrealistic manner. Why can’t a centaur simply rear up and twirl around in an equally unrealistic manner?

Or execute a dramatically unrealistic pirouette. ;-)

Lol, that video. I kept waiting for the exciting thing, but then I realized the horse was already doing it, haha.

On topic, they could possibly stand on their hind-quarters and spin like that, but this might cause issues with how tall they would be at that point. It would look sorta like Black Beauty here:

Also, don’t give your money to other companies yet. You will not be getting the game any sooner or cheaper since Anet sells the game in its own store as well.

Try to look at it from the animation stand-point. How, exactly, does one animate a centaur doing a flip? It could only be some jerky, ragdoll-type, legs outstretched kind of thing that would be incredibly poor looking.

I see it more as a lunge toward the target, a spring, with the forelegs tucked in, then a mid-air roll in which the blades lash out, followed by a kick from one or more of the hind legs, then the front legs unfolding for the landing.

I could see all but the roll. They definitely can’t do forward or backward flips, so those would be right out. So far as I’m aware, horses and especially centaur are unable to roll mid-air. They would need a lot more of a jump to even make it without making the animation too fast or having them look like they are floating.

Even if they can figure out Death Blossom, how do their figure out Dagger Storm? That’s 8 seconds of whirling around instead of just the 1/4 seconds during DB.

MiniEquine.6014

And you just proved my point, not about you being a doomsayer (that wasn’t my point in the first place), but about your comment that ‘Centaur are impossible’. People said in GW1 that the Charr were impossible, obviously they were wrong. Your point that the centaur are impossible is just as unfounded, being nothing more than your own assumption based on your lack of knowledge of the game systems.

Essentially you’ve presented the argument:

“It can’t work, because I personally do not know how it could.”

Which is completely nonsensical. Inability to provide evidence that something could work is not proof that it can’t.

There are few things that the developers cannot get to work in such a broad system as is present in a large scale MMO, and Centaurs as a race are not one of them. Sweeping generalizations against new content such as the one you posted earlier are completely worthless as points of discussion.

What about my points?

I don’t think it’s fair to compare Charr to Centaurs. It is a daunting task to refit everything for a Charr compared to a human and for a centaur I honestly don’t think the armor would be much of an issue. As some have said so far, the only things that would need major redesigns are leg and foot armors. What was it exactly that the players were saying about the Charr? I am curious; I wasn’t around for much of GW1 so I don’t know. Still, Charr are agile and flexible creatures that can move somewhat similar to bipedal creatures. Centaurs move like horses because they share the same body type. Not only would it be the first playable race to be of a non-bipedal creature type, but their body type does not accommodate certain motion within the world of Tyria itself.

Dante might be saying it weirdly, but they are not necessarily wrong. If you think of the shape of a Centaur, it is essentially an L laying on its side. The long part of the L does not flex in the vertical direction much at all, and its flexibility in the horizontal plane is limited as well. A horse body achieves its agility through speed, acceleration, and a moderate ability to turn quickly. It doesn’t roll (which could be avoided by implementing side-stepping for dodging), but when it comes to things like D/D thief #3, GS Guardian #2, Thief Elite Dagger storm, etc, this body type just doesn’t keep up with a bipedal body.

The only way I could see this even coming close to working is if the body of the Centaur did not whirl around and instead, in the instance of Death Blossom, they did an evasive dash towards the target while throwing some daggers around. It would look clunky, but it could possibly work.

It’s not about the lore/immersion, it’s about the animations/programming/artwork needed to make all skins, skill animations, emotes, jumping, swimming and so on work on a non-bipedal creature.

This is the extra stuff i was referring to Tachenon.

And yes, horses doing flips is right out, condescending tone, mind it, it otherwise conversations wont go anywhere, like this one. Im not even going to respond to you, with that, im out, have a good day sir and or madam whichever you happen to be.

They’re not horses. They’re centaurs. Things which could not possibly exist anyway, so saying that they can’t do impossible things is, well, kinda silly. Don’t you think?

That’s not being condescending, that’s stating what should be obvious.

I don’t think it’s silly at all, but not because impossible stuff is happening in a fantasy game with magic and dragons.

Try to look at it from the animation stand-point. How, exactly, does one animate a centaur doing a flip? It could only be some jerky, ragdoll-type, legs outstretched kind of thing that would be incredibly poor looking. The point too is not that impossible stuff happens compared to the Real World, but that impossible stuff within Tyria still doesn’t happen in Tyria. Centaurs, like horses, still remain mostly upright. If they dodge, it is a sidestep, not a roll. If they jump, it is a basic vertical leap and not a spin. Their body structure, even within the context of the game, just doesn’t allow them to make the movements required for a Death Blossom. DB isn’t the only issue here either. Pretty much any whirl attack would require some very fancy footwork, and it would clip with a lot of things.

Guys. In this game we pretend to be cows in order to train cows to fight predators. We swim while wearing heavy plate armor. We will soon be gliding — through the jungle! No need to watch out for that tree.

I don’t think centaur thieves doing death blossoms is too much of a stretch.

Now. Do you? Really?

I think the animations for it would be incredibly difficult for the design team to implement. Aside from that, Centaurs fall into the same problem that Skritt, Quaggan, and Grawl do; they have little to no variation in combat professions. Centaurs are either archers, trampling melee guys, or shaman-type things, but never anything but the tribal archetype professions.

It would be really cool, but I think they would much sooner make something like the Quaggan a playable race than the Centaurs because of the additional work needed.

Edit: It would also be pretty funny to have their swiftness make them say something like “I’m faster than a human!”.

I tried using it in WvW at one point early on. It would have been okay if it didn’t get outranged by grenades. In its current form it should probably have a base range of 2000, not 1400. It really is quite useless except for something to hold onto when stability is required. Even in PvP it requires you to be off point by a good bit, so you’re not helping capture, which could be an issue.

Suggestion: Poison Stacking, Heal Reduction

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MiniEquine.6014

MiniEquine.6014

No, just no. Having to stack poison to 25 stacks just to get -33% healing on Warrior’s Healing Signet……..no thank you.

Isn’t Healing Signet the most OP heal in the game though? Wouldn’t it be better for them to rework that at the same time as they implement any changes to this condition?

Nerfing healing signet just means they buff everything else if you want warriors to have actual sustain. Ele sustain is overpowered, but it’s split into 20 different mechanics, instead of just one, so it’s a harder target for QQ.

People don’t (shouldn’t) have an issue with the numbers healing signet and I guess adrenal surge put out. The issue is that there’s not much counterplay, compared to something like troll unguent for example. Signet can’t be interrupted, it can’t be forced to be activated either. The only counter is one shotting the warrior (which is pretty hard compared to other classes) or poison uptime, which warriors can’t really cleanse like another profession due to the HoT mechanic they have.

So maybe I’m being too lenient with my suggestion then. What if instead of 1.32% every stack, it was -6.6% per stack up to 5 stacks where it would hit -33% but then continue to stack damage.

My biggest concern with it is that it is becoming an intensity-stacking condition with a mechanic that primarily benefits a duration-stacking condition. It’s already fairly weak damage-wise, and if the only reason people take it is for the -33% healing, then they have no reason to stack poison as opposed to most of the other conditions.

It’s a bit pedantic to think it’s anything other than the common definition of summer as it pertains to the U.S. They wouldn’t use intentionally misleading phrases and doublespeak at a developer’s conference, or I would certainly hope not.

MiniEquine.6014

So you want to nerf poison?

I’m sure there’s a way to work around it so that it’s not actually a nerf, like increasing damage. My point is that stacking poison beyond 1 stacks introduces diminishing returns immediately, even though it’s a damage-dealing condition. That encourages people to play with weak poison values just to get it ticking, not because it’s a condition that does anything spectacular.

Suggestion: Poison Stacking, Heal Reduction

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MiniEquine.6014

MiniEquine.6014

So, as stated in recent announcements and streams, both poison and burning will become intensity-stacking conditions in HoT. While burning is just a basic “damage per second” condition, poison does some damage (much less than burning, but some) and also has the -33% healing received boost to its effectiveness.

I suggest that, as poison damage will stack in intensity, the heal reduction should too.

In PvP, this would prevent people from merely taking an on-swap sigil to poison enemies and have literally nothing to do with poison and sometimes even conditions. It would be like vulnerability, where applying one stack is weak, but when you get 25 stacks it is quite significant. A stronger poison should reduce healing more.

In PvE, many bosses don’t heal anyway, but it would encourage team play and combo finishers to stack up poison if the boss is prepping a heal. I feel this is much more engaging than just making sure a single poison is ticking away on the boss.

My math is as follows (note, I’m not sure how many stacks these conditions will get in total, but it shouldn’t matter):
Poison stacks intensity, and the healing reduction would be -33% at its maximum value. At one stack of poison the target would receive -1.32% healing effectiveness and by 25 stacks the target would be at -33%. Every stack after 25 (if they add more) would only increase damage at this point.

Any thoughts?

MiniEquine.6014

It will not be an issue. You only get to choose your elite along with the matching heal and utilities. That means that your ability to potentially exploit a broken combination between elites and utilities is non-existent. If anything, the question should probably be the opposite in that there should be more elites to choose from than just your legend’s elite, but I get why they did it anyway.

Please add Revenant to the profession forum!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MiniEquine.6014

MiniEquine.6014

This has been brought up before, but I’m pretty sure they are just going to wait until the full class reveal. It’s pointless to try theory-crafting without all of the class information, so they are probably trying to stifle useless speculation.

It’s not only theorycrafting. Gathering info, giving feedback, sharing questions and answers, gathering the best questions for future betas etc.

Sounds like what the HoT-section is for.

Then why don’t they remove the profession forums because that’s related to the original game? Revenant posts often get buried by other feedback threads, it would be better to have a dedicated place for that. We all know that at some point it’ll be added, but we are over 2 betas and 1 dedicated twitch showcase, it should have been added already imo.

Because there’s enough to talk about for the other professions. I don’t disagree with you that they should add one soon, but for now we simply don’t know enough about the Revenant to theorycraft properly. We only have 3 trait lines, 3 weapons, and 2 legends. That’s pretty much only half of the class.

The reason Revenant threads might get buried is for this very reason. There isn’t enough meaningful conversation to go on about them, so people run out of things to say and they disappear. It’s the nature of the forums. For now, the HoT forums are the best place for Revenant stuff. However, after they fully reveal the class, and if they don’t have a forum set up at that time, then you have a very valid point and I’ll back you all the way. They should at least release the class info and forum simultaneously.

Also what are the classes like?… by what i have read, the Warrior and Ranger are the easier classes while Elementalists/Thiefs and Engineers are more difficult with more combinations to make for their DPS, but is there any more detail people are able to explain?

Thankyou for any answers.

Ranger - Fairly easy to level and play with because you always have a pet companion with you. The pet can help revive you if you’re down, among other things. Only issue is your pet is about 25% of your damage, so you need to rely heavily on it doing what you want it to.

Warrior - Not my personal favorite, but it has a wide variety of weapons and builds. I suggest having a warhorn in your off-hand for the constant swiftness uptime if you’re running around a lot.

Elementalist - Difficult to get used to because of the four attunements. By default, they have more skills at any one point in time than all other classes except an engineer with 4 kits. However, a lot of PvE content can be done in fire attunement with a staff. PvP is not so forgiving though, and they have the lowest health pools.

Engineer - Difficult to start out with, as you need to get utility kits to damage things properly. Has the potential for the most skill combinations, and like the elementalist is a tough one to master for PvP. Also like the elementalist, the Celestial meta build is top-tier right now.

Thief - Squishy but agile. Dagger/Dagger or Sword/Dagger are great melee sets that offer lots of evasion, and Pistol/Pistol is really useful for soloing veteran and champion creatures. Playing thief means you have to be really jumpy, so it’s not a playstyle for those who want to take it a little easier.

Necromancer - They have the largest health pool and can take on multiple enemies at once while in death shroud. You can also summon undead minions to help you, which can be useful for soloing content.

Mesmer - Very confusing if you’re not used to it. Many of your skills produce clones or phantasms that attack your enemies and can be remote detonated, but you can only ever have 3 at a time, and you need to keep track of your cooldowns so as not to put too many out at once.

Guardian - Very tanky, but a low natural health pool. They have a lot of weapon choices, but you are mainly restricted to melee range (for now). They have really good group support skills and can take a lot of hits before going down. You can solo a lot of stuff with them.

Turret Engi Patch - How are we faring?

MiniEquine.6014

Turrets sucked. I’m glad they’re finally being treated like every other AI. They had way too much health(they couldn’t be crit or conditioned so their effective health was too high). Why would anyone want to bring back massive AI builds unless they largely benefited from it?

You should not be glad that they did this to any set of utilities. Engineer turrets are now thrown upon the heap of other utilities that lost all viability in any serious form of play. Not only the utilities, but there are large sets of traits that are “avoid at all costs” now because of this too. While the old design of turrets needed to be changed, it needed to be changed to something meaningful, useful, and skillful. Right now you can’t even use it effectively in any game mode, so it’s worthless code. Until they revamp the way that the turrets function, they will stay this way.

This isn’t just about AI utilities either. There’s a reason people don’t like to play trap builds either, and that’s because traps are effectively less useful than many other skills. I can’t imagine too many people complained about static traps on the ground, but their power is so underwhelming, so they don’t see as much play.

That doesn’t seem too bad Zera, but a lot of these sigils and runes are insanely OP already, relatively speaking, and making another tier of the same ones would make it really strange. The only thing I wouldn’t be against would be if, like the ascended equipment, you could only craft these ascended, account-bound runes and sigils, or at least all found would be account-bound. It would bring them right in line with ascended equipment as it is right now.

I was under the impression being agnostic was entirely different to being an athiest. And if you are an athiest you dont believe in deities. You are not an athiest if you are agnostic.

Agnostic is an adjective, not a noun. You have four types of “believers”:

Gnostic Theist – Those who claim a deity exists and they know it does.
Agnostic Theist – Those who do not claim a deity exists but they believe anyway.
Agnostic Atheist – Those who do not claim a deity exists and they do not believe.
Gnostic Atheist – Those who claim a deity does not exist and they know it does not.

Agnostic Theists are rare, because it is difficult to justify believing in a god if you can’t say it exists in the first place. Most Theists range from hard gnostic to somewhere in the middle.

Gnostic Atheists exist, but they have to confront the issue that they are making an absolute counter-claim about a non-falsifiable theistic claim. This is why many atheists are agnostic atheists.

There are some other small branches of nuanced beliefs within these four groups, but these are the primary ones.

Edit: In looking up the definition of “agnostic”, you will see a noun definition for it. By default, since agnostic theists are so rare, an agnostic is an agnostic atheist, since they do not make a claim about a god existing, merely that we cannot know such things.

This was not done for the same reasons that religious theocracies or dictatorships did them, as “atheism” is not a set of beliefs or guiding principles, but merely the lack of a belief in a theocratic religion. It’s a bit of a nuance, but it’s an important distinction none-the-less.

The lack of a belief in a theocratic religion is not atheism.

Atheism is the belief that there are no deities (in a broader sense: it is the rejection of theism).

As long as there is no scientific proof, that no deities exists, atheism is a form of belief.

I’m sorry, but this is simply not the case. If theism is the belief in a god, then atheism is the negation of that. There are, however, two types of atheism:

A strong (or gnostic) atheist would make claims that no gods exist, therefore a belief in no gods.

A weak (or agnostic) atheist does not believe in gods, but also does not believe that they do not exist (like the strong atheist would).

Gnostic atheism is a belief because it makes a claim. Agnostic atheism is not a belief because it does not make a claim. Also, faith-based religions are non-falsifiable by nature, so there will never be “scientific proof” for or against them. If there were, then they would not be faiths.

I think you guys have it wrong. It’s more of a concern Black Box has rather than hatred. There’s nothing wrong with pointing out flaws and/or concerns. A good reiteration would be as to why Guardians received traps in the first place when we have an abundance of Area-of-denial to start with. Another good argument is why have a ranged trait only work with 1 weapon (since the others tracking is so horrible). These are concerns and justified as well.

The difference between pointing out concerns and doing what Black Box is doing, is that they are refusing to see any viability with the spec at all. There are some aspects that are clunky, but there are others that are good. You can make viable builds with this spec.

i bought the bonus edition and i can say, it’s a waste of money

There never was a “bonus” edition, so not a clue what you mean. let alone why this feedback is helpfull. pls clarify. also explain what you disliked or was dissapointed bout.

I payed more to get the “low level celestial ring” i get everytime i create a new character.
Digital Deluxe Edition was the name…
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hero%27s_Band

This is a constant reminder of the extra i payed… not falling for this crap again.

But you didn’t have to pay extra for that. Any preorder, regardless of version, gives that thing.

I payed more for some items that were one time use… like i said, never again am paying a extra for anet cuz its all a bullkitten, like that elite mistfire wolf, bunch of crap

For new players, that Mistfire Wolf ain’t that bad. When I first started out, it was the only elite skill I had because I wasn’t used to saving up and hunting for skill points. It also made soloing content as a thief a bit easier.

The deluxe edition isn’t supposed to make you win any better than anyone else or anything, and there’s only so much they can do. However, what they give you is the reason I didn’t buy the deluxe for my second account. By that point I was good enough to not need the wolf or the 18-slot box.

Black Box literally hates everything about the DH spec except maybe the virtues. It’s kinda weird just seeing somebody say “no, it’s bad” over and over for nearly everything.

As for me, I’m going to enjoy the DH spec in dungeons at least. As long as stacking meta is a thing, then so too will abilities that benefit from point-blank placement also be a thing. Let the nay-sayers have their peace, but a condi Guardian seems really fun and fresh.

I honestly don’t have an issue as a WVW’er in purchasing an expansion, but I do have issue with having to grind PVE to bring all 9 of my 80’s back to competitive status for doing my WVW with those characters (aka.. the new mastery system/class skills).

My hope is that there will be alternatives to having to learn mushroom jumping and gliding skills to get the mastery’s needed for my competitive wvw play. Mind you I like exploring new maps and doing a little PVE from time to time, I just don’t find having to grind for skill sets to accomplish it fun. And that’s the fear I have of this new mastery system.

masteries wont effect WvW play, you may be thinking of hero points, which will require skill challenges.
masteries as of right now, is PVE progression

So all the WvW would actually get from HoT is the elite specialisations.

You won’t have to grind anything up to “be competitive”. As an 80, you’ll have 400 Hero Points to spend as you see fit among your trait and skill lines. You can absolutely make the build(s) you have right now and have points left over. The only issue (that remains unanswered anyway) is if you wanted to have literally everything unlocked, but even then you don’t actually need 100% of your skills to do WvW. That’s not an excuse, and Anet should address this sooner or later, but it sounds like you think you’re going to lose everything and that’s simply not the case.

That’s not actually masteries though. That’s the new specialisation system.

And as stated by others, you don’t need any Maguuma Jungle masteries to play WvW. If the OP is concerned that they won’t be competitive in WvW because they won’t be getting masteries, then we are letting them know that it isn’t anything to be concerned about.

When I say this, it’s specifically with WvW-only players. You are absolutely right about not having enough to do WvW and PvE open world and PvE dungeons, but if you do PvE content then this isn’t much of an issue at all (especially since you’ll likely have all of the HPs unlocked unless you were actively avoiding the skill challenges). Typically a WvWer has a build they use. Sometimes two, I don’t tend to see many people with more than one anyway, but you can absolutely make your build again in WvW with just the points the give you if all you do is WvW. You might not be able to make two builds, but 3 trait lines and at most 3 utility lines will cost no more than about 300-350. Since you have 400, it’s more than enough.

Fair point. Though I expect every hardcore WvWer has at least two builds. One for running with the zerg, and one for small group/solo roaming.

If their builds overlap at all, it probably won’t be bad. Unless their two builds are using completely different trait lines and utilities, they will probably be fine. Another thing to remember, is that if you only need the VII Grandmaster in a line, then you don’t need to unlock VIII or IX, so you can save on HP by only just leveling your lines enough to get what you need.

If this doesn’t sound familiar I recommend you take a look at the countless Christian missionaries entering “savage” peoples’ land, often with military forces to back them up. (but not always. then again, we have had forced religious conversion for native american tribes and the associated genocide.) That’s the closest real-world analogy.

Note that Christians don’t have a monopoly on violent assertion of their religion. Muslims, Hindus, and even Buddhists have and continue to use violence against members of other religions.

And just to make sure we don’t start to think it’s religion that is to blame, I’ll call attention to atrocities in the name of atheist states in the last century.

Generally, the atrocities of the atheist states were committed in order to remove power from anything that wasn’t the government at the time, which included the churches. This was not done for the same reasons that religious theocracies or dictatorships did them, as “atheism” is not a set of beliefs or guiding principles, but merely the lack of a belief in a theocratic religion. It’s a bit of a nuance, but it’s an important distinction none-the-less.

People are depraved and violent. They just use ideology to justify it.

In this case, the ideology for a theocratic dictatorship is to force a particular faith on people to hold power over the people and to keep others from getting that power.

The ideology for an atheistic dictatorship is to force atheism on people to remove power from the religions that hold power over those people, and to transfer it to the dictatorship itself.

Different purposes, but ultimately the same outcome as the people are always at a loss.

As an 80, you’ll have 400 Hero Points to spend as you see fit among your trait and skill lines. You can absolutely make the build(s) you have right now and have points left over.

We don’t know this for certain.

It also ignores the fact that it is common to switch builds between play modes. A person who engages in WvW, dungeons, and open world events most likely has a seperate build for each of those arenas. That could mean needing to unlock at least 4 of the 5 trait lines to get currently used builds. And because the new system has us go all the way to a grandmaster in each of our three trait lines, we will need to unlock any traitline close to completion (granmasters will likely be toward the end of the reward tracks).

The same goes true of skill tracks. The most useful, commonly used skills are likely to be toward the end of a track. That means if you only use one skill in a category, you could still be investing heavily in that track.

Unless there has been more information that I’m not aware of, ArenaNet just said the 400 HP from leveling would be enough to make “several unique full builds”. That isn’t the same thing as enough to “make the build(s) you have right now and have points left over.”

When I say this, it’s specifically with WvW-only players. I think the name Dragonhunter is silly, however… I compared it to the other trait lines instead of the profession name. I wonder how we’d feel if they said the new specialization was Virtues or Radiance?

Chronomancer compares not to Mesmer, but to Dueling and Inspiration?

And the weirdest one; we now have Reaper and Soul Reaping? So we have a spec for reaping of souls and another for all other run of the mill reaping.
lol

I think they did that because they aren’t supposed to be compared. You will only ever be able to equip one elite spec at a time (when they do introduce more) and, in doing so, your class becomes specialized and your class name technically changes to reflect your new profession skills and mechanics. No other trait line changes the mechanics of your class; all they do is add effects to existing mechanics. Every elite spec is going to have a profession name for it.

I’ve been playing around with the customized soundtrack feature that GW2 has as seen in the link, but it only lists these 8 options to replace presumably more than 8 tracks. Is there more customization beyond this or is that it? If so, does that mean the music is hidden in the .dat file? I wouldn’t want to mess with that.

I do enjoy GW2’s music, but there’s something about putting boss battle themes from other franchises in to occasionally bring back memories. Has anyone else tried experimenting with this and, if so, is there more we can do?

Inquisitor
This is my short proposal about how some easy adjustments to the ‘dragonhunter’ e-spec works for an ‘inquisitor’ e-spec. I have discussed the advantages of the ‘inquisitor’ name over the ‘dragonhunter’ earlier in this thread, so I won’t repeat myself: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/DragonHunter-name-feedback-merged/5078126.

Weapon Skills: Weapon skills need minimal tweaks. Even then, these changes are not necessary for an inquisitor e-spec. I would just recommend renaming “Symbol of Energy” to “Symbol of Searing” and “Hunter’s Ward” to maybe “Seeker’s Ward.”

Heal, Utility, and Elite Skills: It turns out that the utility skills are more appropriate for an inquisitor motif than a dragonhunting one: e.g. Purification, Fragments of Faith, Light’s Judgment, Test of Faith, and Procession of Blades. So what of “Dragon’s Maw”? I don’t think that the animation needs to change, but it could simply be renamed to “Inquisitor’s Verdict.”

Traits: The traits would need to be given greater thematic cohesion for the inquisitor e-spec.
- Minor Traits: Virtuous Action, Defender’s Dogma, and Pure of Sight
- Adept Traits: Repenter’s Blood (Piercing Light), Zealot’s Aggression, Wings of Wrath (Soaring Devastation)
- Master Traits: Unwavering Zeal (Hunter’s Determination), Bastion of Faith (Bulwark), Inquisitor’s Mark (Dulled Senses)
- Grandmaster Traits: Confessor’s Grace (Hunter’s Fortification), Faith’s Repulsion (Heavy Light), Foebane (Big Game Hunter)

E-Spec Weapon and Armor Skins: The inquisitor armor could be a helm that mostly hid the face, being reminiscent of an executioner’s hood. The inquisitor weapon would be a longbow made to look similar to balancing scales (of justice). No such longbow exists in the game with such a motif. What of the preexisting dragonhunter longbow? ArenaNet can sell the dragonhunter longbow skin on the Trading Post. The gloves could be integrated into a dragon-motif heavy armor or outfit.

I’m really not a fan of the Inquisitor alternative, as I see too many ties to the White Mantle and religious zealotry. However, to me, this makes a ton more sense than Dragonhunter. Personally, I’m still in the Sentinel camp, as I feel the AoE support provided, along with being at the backline but also protecting other backliners is more suited to that name than most of the others I’ve seen floating around. As always though, this is an opinion and nobody’s opinions are right or wrong. Except for Anet’s, with their high concepts.

It’s not too farfetched though. If any class could tie itself to religious zealotry, the Guardian class would be the first. Necromancers might come in a close second with their attribution to Grenth (at least for humans anyway), but the Guardian fits the Paladin archetype fairly well. I do, however, agree with your counterpoint regardless, just that I also feel like Inquisitor could work if it was implemented differently.

Again, to clarify, I am not complaining. Just saying what I feel. I have no problem shelling the cash for this pack. I am worried about the people that won’t buy the pack.

Why is it any concern to you if other people don’t buy the ex-pack? I, and everyone else here, is struggling to see a reason why this would be a worry on anybody’s mind. The expansions aren’t expensive, there is no undue burden on the players. If they really aren’t interested enough in GW2 then they aren’t going to get the expansion. This isn’t selfish to not be concerned about those people, because the overwhelming majority of players that do have a problem with the ex-pack needing to be bought are those who have never bought an expansion before and think GW2 is Pay2Win. (This is the reason I brought this up in the beginning, because there have been numerous posts claiming it’s Pay2Win but the fact is it is far from it).

To waypoint or not to WP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MiniEquine.6014

MiniEquine.6014

I nearly always wp + run back, but usually I don’t mind rezzing other people, it depends on the boss.

At Golem Mark 2, it’s really quick to wp and run back. Or if it’s nearly done you can wait to be rezzed after, I don’t usually (esp. as I can get my armour fixed on the way back!), but I don’t mind if people do wait.

On some of the low level bosses like Svanir Shaman, I’m happy to rez people as soon as they get downed because a lot of low level players do this boss, and of course they get downed very easily, and often don’t know the ropes yet anyway. I can do enough damage to get credit from a couple of hits so it’s no loss to me to rez people there.

Also at Karka Queen I rez people, because it’s another one where even good players can get downed very suddenly, and it can be a long run from the nearest wp with not much time to make it, as KQ goes down very fast when there are a lot of players. I’ve been rezzed there a few times on my squishies, and I’ve been very grateful for it

I think what I’m saying is, it depends on the boss, and it depends on the player; on a level 80 char I think it’s good to rez lower level players who get downed, we all know what it’s like having that kitteny low level armour (and, thanks to the npe, no traits), it’s good to help people out if you can, and let’s face it, on a level 80, you can Equally though, on a level 80 char I wouldn’t expect other players to have to look out for me. Nice to get rezzed if someone does that for me but I would generally expect at that level to be able to look after myself, and help people who are on lower level chars.

This is my point too. A lot depends on which boss one is fighting and how far away the waypoint is in the first place, and also who it is that is fighting it. Golem Mk II is really close to the WP, but VW is not.

In the math example given, the numbers are mostly correct, and I’m still sticking to what I said for the following reasons:

10k dps per person, 0k dps from the dead player
5 rezzing is -50k dps for 5 seconds = 250k damage lost (the 50k from the already dead player can’t count here because they aren’t contributing before the rez)
Even if we account for dodges and damage taken while rezzing, let’s say a factor of 1.5, that gives us 37.5 seconds of that one player needing to stay alive and do their 10k dps in order to make up for the lost damage. A little over half a minute for some fights is a very small amount of time (like VW). For fights like Fire Elemental, which last maybe 10-15 seconds, this is obviously not worth it. How fast can you run back from the SW waypoint all the way to VW? I’d wager it takes a considerably longer time than 37.5 seconds.

It’s not a simple yes or no answer. It depends on how long the fight is, how much of the fight is left, how far away the WP is, how dangerous it is to rez, and how long the player will stay alive after having been rezzed.
