I would say the PU perplex rune condi build is the best if you don’t mind the slow run speed .
The only thing I seem that ‘may’ I mean MAY be a hack is combat speed . Once in a while I fight someone who seem to have perma quickness in those cases it could well be a string of lucky procs.
Since you don’t see the name of your enemies it makes it very hard to spot cheaters. In other games you can generally find the hackers because you see the same guy doing the fishy stuff all the time. In GW2 the only thing you have to go with is the guild tag which can be swapped anything you want. So when you see things that’s fishy you really have only that one instance to judge where if you know who it is people can see the name and start recording fights and catch cheaters that way.
Before anyone accuses me of being terrible it’s okay, I already know I’m not great. But I think there is some kind of hack going on… This one thief in particular I’ve run in to multiple times now is impossibly fast. Someone also fought them and said it’s a port hack or something?
Anyway, to give an example of what happened. This thief was stealthing more times than I believe it’s possible to do because of cooldown limitations. And when I was doing damage to them they would stealth and before you could logically be more than a few yards away they re-appear almost completely out of sight, far enough their name wouldn’t show up above their head. I also saw them spam Infiltrator’s Shot at least 5 times. And I don’t think you can have enough initiative to do that, my other character is a thief so I understand how they work.
Anyway just saying this is the first time I’ve seen someone move that fast, stealth that often or just in general be that kitten slippery… I could hardly land a hit on this person and I can usually dispose of thieves fairly quickly. “About face” button (180 your character) and flamethrower is lethal xD.
There may be hacks used , but very rare. The thief port thing is shadow trap most likely.
I love 1v1 in wvw but it always takes a few days in any match up to find good 1 v1s. Just wondering if there is a fight club guild out there to make it easier to set up wvw 1v1s. If not then maybe we can make 1.
wvw
mixed Phantasm/shatter
gs/staff
All I can say i I have a long line of thieves and other soloers who wants to gp with me all the time. So for small scale mesmers are by far the best gp member imo.
I ran with full pvt for a long time and have since changed to full glass. Reason being the only class I have a real tough time with in full glass is D/P thieves. In the end it’s not worth giving up extra burst for just 1 build of 1 class. With soo many zerglings running tank build I feel the extra bit of burst often means the difference between getting a kill and not downing someone fast enough before they rejoin the zerg.
I use it all the time. It’s pretty buggy but still it’s a must imo if you want to kill eles, necros and pretty much any class that tries to condi burst you.
Honestly dont know so far who has worse roamers between DB and FA, everyone is just soooo bad lol.
I know FA has literally the worst players in the game (even though core transfering there somehow brought down the average with how bad they are lol), hopefully DB is only sending out the terribad roamers on reset and the less terrible ones come out during the week but i doubt it.
Reset night is always bad to find good fights. No need to trash talk a whole server based on 1 night of roaming. Same goes to the guy who says sbi are bad. Give it a few days you’ll find the good players.
lol 4 sec revealed on 40 s cool down in the hands of a weak class. If you can’t learn to deal with it, you have some serious l2p issues.
Simple solution is revealed debuff after every stealth. They had it in beta but removed it from live. It will be a huge nerf if they did that, but I don’t think it’s bad enough to destroy the class.
This week just proves that T1 in NA needs its own league. Does anyone really want to go through 7 weeks of uneven matchups?
Seems SBI, SoS, Mag and even FA want to, according to the way they fight. Uneven matchup means that your people on the map are there for the right reason, lower queues and more fights to be had, against powerful enemies.
Why would I want to be elsewhere ?
That is not true. When SBI was wining there were always a que to EB . Now that we are losing there were little to no que to ay of the maps even on the weekend. Fighting a losing battle at your spawn is only fun for a few hrs before it starts to feel like ground hog day.
The short answer is no. Everyone have their story of how they beat a thief. I’m pretty sure most of those are not even roamers. A d/p thief simply have more options than any other class. So assuming equal skill the person with more options wins. What are these options? Stealth on demand, break stun on demand, daze and blind on demand and burst damage on demand + faster movement speed . Since anet gave everyone traveler runes which is a huge boon for thieves means they can run scorp wire or shadow trap instead if signet of kitten . It just make a very good class even better.
I just pick up and go. If you can’t handle 1 v 2 and win or at least get away then you will have a real hard time roaming. The extra stats help but it’s not a deal breaker.
doesn’t it work both ways? I’d say the devs are probably more deserving of respect than a lot of the whinny self serving posters that tend to inhibit forums such as these and it is not surprising after spending too long reading some of the over-reactionary end of the world my way or the highway types posts on these forums that we might end up with a few frustrated devs around. Just a thought and yeah that other thread is full of some great examples of why it is better not to visit game forums. Let’s all chill awhile around a campfire and make some s’mores or somethin instead.
The difference is that the devs get paid and the whinny posters pay them.
As for the myth that forum posters represent only the whinny game haters let me ask you this then. Go read the professional forums of mesmer and thief. Most of the post are not whine pot at all. People are helping each other out. Heck even on live event forum when Gauntlet was kitten ing off a LOT of players to no end. Even then there were no shortage of players praising the work Anet did. Now what makes people who post on WvW and Spvp forum so different where 99% of the posts are negative?
Maybe , just maybe that the reason is because spvp and wvw are broken not because for some magical reason only the game hater post here? Read these forums when gw2 launched, it was much more dev friendly back then.
Why create a duplicate topic? Use the existing thread.
no worries it will be merged fast enough .
The rally/down system would make a 2 v 1 zerg fight near impossible. I fought many 3 way 1v1v1 and 2v2v2 the down/rally system makes the whole thing such a chaos it’s near impossible to team up even if you wanted to.
Besides being ridiculously unprofessional, blaming it on the players is probably the worst thing a game designer can do. If people are taking up guild vs. guild to the point that it’s “violating” his game type, then maybe guild vs. guild should be offered separately. The problem isn’t the players; it’s that game design is so lacking that people resort to shoddy alternatives.
QFT.
Anet is falling into the trap of blame the player base like all other failed mmo.
Play a Necro. put all condition on Mesmer use fear don’t give time to get clones the Mesmer will melt in seconds .
Keep distance from necro and send out 2 phantasms from 1200 and watch him die as he chases you. Same thing works on condi engis.
It’s kinda funny. 1/2 of the ;posts are talking 1 thing the other 1/2 something entirely difkittenda like when I posted aout how hard necros became after the condi patch. 1/2 of the replies were very helpful and on pt and the other 1/2 was all “i beat necros all the time” stuff from ppl who obviously had no idea what I was talking about.
Look there are lots of builds that use PU and lots of condi builds. The one under question I only fought 2x but I can’t deal with it at all . The combo of stealth, durability and burst condition is very nasty. OPed? maybe a bit if perplex rune is used . The build itself is fine without the runes imo.
I’d just like to make a note of one thing that I think people aren’t considering when they transfer to stacked worlds. You will not, repeat will not, be able to receive the reward based on overall world place in the league, unless you achieve the meta achievement for the season. If you aren’t able to get into WvW much, you won’t get the rewards. So it is absolutely taking a risk to transfer to a world that has a large WvW population.
I don’t know what the achievements are but I bet it won’t be too hard to get when the stacked server get paired with the server that’s not so stacked. Sure when the top 3 servers are fighting most will not be able to get in due to Q but on day 3 of a lop sided match …
The numbers will force their hand the problem is as it was with every other failed mmo of last decade. The dev fail to realize that once you lose a player you will never get him/her back. So as the numbers start to fall it’s more or less over.
All I can say is my match up has been such a blowout I started pve instead and I’m on the wining side.
A couple of assumptions you make Covenant I would like to comment on.
- People WvW for rewards only. I like to PvP and PvP with my friends, I could care less about the rewards. People of this nature tend to stick together.
- Population is the singular reason a server is succeeding or failing. No numbers have ever been published, you might be surprised what the actual data is.Interesting ideas though, I am sure there are a lot of gamers that game for that carrot, Im willing to be most of them PvE.
Your arguments are flawed. While reward is not the only reason people play wvw it is a very important one. You can chose to play with friends and don’t care about rewards but it is much more likely that you chose to play with friends AND get better rewards.
And what rewards are you implying? I do not have a legendary, I do not have a character with full ascended, and I use a back piece from PVE. I can assure you the only reason I am playing the game is to pvp and play with friends. Do I enjoy a nice looking weapon skin, sure but that’s not coming from player drops so I buy them when I can. I am merely suggesting that giving people higher rewards (maybe more mf, or gold find) may not entice the amount of people the OP talks about. In other words the cause for people playing on a server go beyond what a small reward might offer.
As far as numbers go, I agree numbers count. I didn’t mean to suggest otherwise. But I am saying its not a solitary truth. However with out the numbers from arena net we will just go in circles.
:) all I’m saying is that playing with friends is not opposite to playing for rewards, in a good game you should be able to do both. I played DAoC for 6 year with same gp of friends . We also went out nearly every night to kill as many other players from other worlds as we can to gain realm pts so we can use them to get better abilities and cool titles. A good game should let you do both.

While no published data proves that numbers is the singular reason for a servers success the combine experience of everyone who post here or anywhere GW2 related seem to indicate that it is the most important factor. Lets put it this way the evidence that superior numbers does NOT make a difference to a battle or match up doesn’t exist. On the other hand it is pretty easy to see that lower tier servers have less players in WvW just do a few transfers and you’ll see that for yourself.
well by award pt per kill more rather than holding a keep. Same problem with spvp. It’s boring because it rewards holding a pt and not dying a lot more than killing players.
Fixing is easy they just don’t want to do it. Just copy DaoC!!!!!!! Award a lot more wxp based on kills rather than taking structures. Scale the amount wxp given based on the number of players in the area when a structure is taken.
I have no doubt that is what they hoped would happen, the 2 weaker sides team up vs the wining side. It really hasn’t happened at all in my experience anyway. The reason is imo because the match up changes too fast and the reward/incentive of wining is no existent. So really 1 there isn’t enough time for the 2 losing sides to come to some kind of battle field agreement. 2 people simply don’t care about wining a match up enough to work together.
What I do see more often than not is the 2’nd place world pick on the last place team for easy wxp and avoid the 1’st place zerg. When you think about it , it make sense. Why would you fight a zerg knowing you’ll lose 9/10 times and get no wxp when you can pick on the weaker one and get reward 9/10 times.
One last pt, with the way rally works, it would be rather impossible for 2 worlds to team up and beat the third side even if they wanted to .
I am still surprised these posts are being made.
In duels, thieves are below mediocre with the current WvW settings. In open world solo, the only players who need to worry about an unbalanced thief fight are group oriented builds, up levels, wounded players and players who need to work on their skills.
In solo fights and duels: warriors and condi-bunkers currently dominate. No decent roamer/duel build that isn’t on cool down/wounded should be on the wrong side of a thief fight going in.
Duels and roaming are 2 diff. things. In a duel no one is going to just run away. Also most players wouldn’t run a duel spec to roam.
lol ye , it does make things a lot easier when you know the class you are fighting at the start.
I wish the devs would put [Reveal] on a shout like “sic’ em”. Dare to dream.
All they have to do is implement revealed debuff on every stealth use. That would get rid of chain stealth/perma stealth and solve most of the problem. They had it in a patch a while ago but didn’t have the guts to bring it live.
:) I read the dev post it made me laugh. What they do not realize is that for every angry post on the forum there are 10 ppl who doesn’t care enough to express their anger and just moved on to anther game or quit.
The solution is rather obvious, it should be EASIER for the defenders to kill attackers rather than the other way around.
1. Disable downed state for anyone outside the walls of a keep/tower within 1200 unit.
2. Disable AE attack onto walls.
I bet that would solve if not all at least 80% of the problem.
If they want harder boss fights then there should be better way to make raid groups. Let everyone pug and crank up the diff of encounters is just dumb.
had fun roaming last night tonight not so much. People figured out that bloodlust is important now there are gps of 6-10 roaming the middle to cap pts not the small gps of 2-4 anymore.
Right, because WvW didn’t have capture-points before today.
So you used to take a camp and the proceed to sit in it all day ? .. I must have being playing this game all wrong then.
lets just make more people try it!!! I can’t help but laugh out loud after I saw the new map. The new lake is basically spvp , the good old conquest model.
Lets see, you guys had Spvp since launch with the whole hug the circle conquest modle e-sport thingy. Now 1 year later no e-sport, hardly anyone playing spvp. So instead of fixing the product you decided to ram the same crap down the throats of the wvwers as well. Really? so all the people who tried it in spvp and ditched it must all be crazy ? the wvwer surely will see the light and embrace it right ? … lol
the problem is that the whole game favors zerg. In other games the design is to favor the side with less people so that things balance out or at least the playing field is even between the larger army and the smaller army. In this game the larger side not only doesn’t suffer it benefits from every game mechanic. Everything from AoE limit, to downed state, to rally . to small maps , fast group run speed. The way seige is built (by number of supplies). Everything is implemented to favor larger army over smaller ones. So it really isn’t a surprise that the new stuff also favor the larger servers and their zergs .
edit: Forgot to mention even the way wxp is headed out favors larger zerg.
solution? they had it but didn’t have the balls to bring it live. Revealed debuff no matter what . No chain stealth = balanced stealth .
go with phantasm, it’s a good way to ease into using stealth. The key to both mesmer and thief is stealth. use it as a weapon for both offense and defense. Go with a stealth heavy phantasm build , it’s easy and effective .
WATCH OUT!! Incoming flame by A army of thieves ….
guard stuff, just make solo flip camp easier and faster. Also helps when you are killing fools who run to their guards by a pt or tower thinking they’ll be safe there.
Very nice vid. one of the best I have seem in turns of skill.
Like I said in another post Dodge and Stealth. The bad ones don’t use a stun venom dodge and they are toast. The better ones use basilisk venom then you need to use one of the many many stun breakers and then dodge. It’s all about no panic and use your dodge and stealth. Timing is everything.
- Dodge
- Stealth
I am not saying mesmer is better than thief. A very good thief is hard to beat and if they want to run there isn’t much you can do about it. But 1 out of 20 thieves are very good I simply lay a beat down on the rest. Really the trick is dodge and stealth. There is no magic build that will make it easier.
Get a friend who play thief go to the mist and duel him over and over . You’ll do each other a world of good.
I had the opportunity to duel a very, very good condition transfer Necro last night, one who used his flesh golem to CC then chain fear/burst you with conditions, incredibly difficult to deal with. I countered by using a staff/sceptre/torch condition build + Arcane Thievery, blink, decoy. Each fight was tough, I lost more than I won but I learned a lot. Winning against a really good necro for me meant, staying at max range (the most important point), keeping clones pumping out, abusing stealth and timing my arcane thievery use to “counter burst” him
You have to time it perfectly and hope arcane thievery does not bug out, but if it works, you transfer back some nice bleeds/torment and can land sceptre block + prestige burning you will likely down them.
Osicat demonstrates this Playstyle/movement perfectly in one his recent videos, I think it’s listed in this thread somewhere.
Yep stay at max range and let your phantasms do the work. I use the same tactic vs good engis as well. I use GS/Staff so it’s easier for me to do damage at 1200.
imo you get better by dueling other classes. 80% of any fight is knowing what the other guy is going to do. As mesmers we know our own moves pretty kitten well already so there isn’t much to learn.
I just stay at max range vs necros and engis. Does the trick for me .
stealth is by far the most oped skill in all of GW2.
I have never had anyone hate spam me. It’s almost always a friendly invitation for some proper 1 v 1 which I’m happy to engage. You must just got extremely unlucky.
