I think I understand the point you’re trying to make, however, if the system is pushing you towards a long run probablity of 50% and each match is modeled as an independent event, then you’re going to have a 3% chance of winning 5 in a row. Now you might make and argument that the matches aren’t independent, but I’d be hard pressed to construct one myself.

???. The opposite. Skillful wars get their MMRs lowered because they play a warrior. This wouldn’t obviously mean that you face rank 2 players immediately as soon as you log onto your rank 80 warrior, it would be a slighter adjustment than that.

This is why it’s hard to respect and take seriously the “top 2” NA pro teams. The most respectable team in NA is Never Lucky. It was heart warming what they last Monday.

I’ve to say, I’ve completly re-evaluted my view on “pro players” GW2 has during last week. As I disliked Helseth due to his horrible self-centered attitude and bad sense of humor, he proved to be worthy, since he had balls to ignore easy farm and join soloQ pain train… unlike some other streamers from top teams.

I have this dilemma as a soloq player. The system really rewards teams, an individual being high in the ladder really means next to nothing.
I would love a system where teams could climb a separate ladder and solo players could initially come together and be ranked and climb through individual effort with winning as a team being a consideration.
I would love system, which has separated SoloQ and TeamQ, however it would love to have ability to keep wining team in SoloQ, so my SoloQ team if is great could fight after few games in TeamQ.
You can beat most Teams when MM works properly, but you can’t when you get 4 randoms with much lower skills that yours and you’re supposed to carry them…
It seems like the idea behind the league is for people to be pvping in teams rather than solo. At this point, pvping solo in leagues seems like such a bad idea. Why would you risk your pips on a coin toss of getting competent team mates?
If people want to solo queue they should be doing it in unranked, but i suppose people will respond that they want to progress in leagues so they want to play ranked.

The problem is that you can solo que…get matched up against a 4 man guild premade on TS…lose the match…AND…lose a pip.
That’s just ridiculous and will not sustain a viable PvP playerbase. Nobody is going to put up with that and keep playing for very long.
For over a year people played with weird MMR match making. They still played.
For over a year soloQ people we’re put against premades..they still play.
For over a year highly casual players have had hotjoin exploited and side swapped to death…they still play.
Since the beginning the rewards in PvP have been terrible..they still play.
Since the beginning the buff/nerf train has frustrated players..they still play.Gw2 seems to have a unique client base. They get a product which contradicts official statements by the company, they play it..they complain about it..yet here they still are. heck the company even has 200k to throw at a tournament.
Using your warped logic, people still play MMOs like Rift or Swotr, so I guess things don’t matter because a small percentage “still play” (using your words).
This game has the best combat mechanics which makes it an even greater shame that it’s underperformed in terms of popularity. It should be the #1 MMO for PvP if that was ever handled properly. However, years of slow balancing, no worthwhile rewards, and meaningless leaderboards has sabotaged the popularity of the game.
At this point, I’m probably talking over your head because you don’t see those things as a problem worth fixing.
According to your logic, as long as “people still play”, you think the game has reached the pinnacle popularity.
Age of Conan had much better combat system, yet it “died”, because devs cattered to much to PvE community and ignored PvP community complains too much.
MMR is there for a reason.
It doesn’t make sense to have Division system and MMR at same time..
Players should be matched based on their divisions. Yes, players like Helseth would have easy games early, but then later they would struggle against one each other… now they will permanently struggle against each other…
I just lost 2 pips and no one dc or left, we lost like 500-280 but one person swapped characters right before the start of match. He didnt miss any time but me and a 1 person i was partied with both lost 2 pips.
MM predicted you to easily win and you lost, so enemies got two pips…

How long would you be willing to wait before going significantly outside your division for matchmaking?
I think 5 minutes wouldn’t be too long. I could endure even 10 minutes just to be sure I won’t get Amber guys in my team who doesn’t lose anything while I’m heavily punished for losing in Sapphire.
Well at least they have a LADDER CUTOFF in the matching. Thank goodness.

Classic BM/MM/D with double Glyph was good enough as soloQ to sapphire for me.
The only thing I’ve changed was Beastly Warden (to prevent stomps/rezes and to make Wolf more oppresive), also Energy/Doom are pretty useful (can be triggered by Celestial Avatar, you don’t have to change weapon).
Stronghold should be in Ranked, because its much more fun than Conquest and its Bunker Wars =]

I thought pro Leagues showed that Full Trap DH only works against low tier players. There was so much QQ in the beginning against Trap DH and then when people saw that every team with a DH lost in the early rounds of pro leagues, the QQ mysteriously died out.
DH is played in NA Pro League.

You have to please the reward grinders (same reason we have Match Flopping now) at the same time as the people who want to actually sPvP and get better. ANet is in a really hard spot because of the Ultra-Casual community they have built in the PvE side of this game.

They are complaining about losing pips, because matchmaking is so horrible, because we have no SoloQ, because professions are horribly stacked even in full SoloQ vs SoloQ games, people who want lose on purpose due to this flawed system and so on… and all of those make entire experience not fun.

Stronghold tends to snowball (point wise). Some games are close, but only when “winning” team can’t use their momentum.

Theres lots of different ones floating around but most use either cele or sentinels and durability or chronomancer runes.
Basically the build can rez better than a guardian and CC better than one and share a huge amount of boons and alacrity. Its pointholding power in conquest is unparalleled because unlike a tempest who has to heal through and sustain through the damage, the chronobunker can use well of precognition, sword 2, and shield blocks to mitigate the damage on very low cooldowns due to all the alacrity and the build has solid healing and condition cleansing, on demand stability/quikness and good protection uptime.
Basically its a bunker build that can handle being focus fired better than any we’ve had before.

I think it is very unreasonable for this pet to have an attack that is above all logic. Think about it for a moment. Why on earth is it okay for it to be unblockable aside from the assertion that rangers are…. underpowered?
Why is it okay for auras to have zero counterplay other than stop attacking? See I can do this too. Theres no reason for a pet NOT to have an unblockable attack. Especially considering all the things rangers DON’T get because of there pets.
This attack has a slower and more obvious telegraph than most. I am sorry you didn’t think the guys pet was a threat and chose to ignore it and apparently got rolled by it.
Now give us a GOOD reason for this ONE pet not to have a form of attack that the ranger itself CAN’T have.
Edit: also If you played ranger youd realise it WASN’T random. It follows a VERY predictable pattern based on your range from the target. Just like every other pet does.
If the pet is equally a threat. Why is it justified that bark skin reduce the damage by 50% to the pet? It should be 33% if the pet is as dangerous as the player, no?

Having games where I am the only one on my team to contribute to capture points (20 me, 0/0/0/0 rest of team) and the final score is 501 to 8 (defeat)… its just like “wtf anet…”.

If I’m the only good player on my team (proven btw, not ego) then the enemy team should only have 1 player at my skill level not 5. I can’t play against 5 me’s if my team is like 4 other me’s from 2 years ago when I barely understood why Capture points were better than kills.
It’s not true. Stronkhold isn’t SoloQ. You can run into high MMR teams farming pips in middle of the night on soloQ players, since they are afraid of other high MMR teams in Conquest…

Well… Unblockable attacks need not to be given away for no reasons, Shadelang. You don’t give unblockable “just because”; something in the skill needs to make it clear that it is unblockable.
All I see from rangers is them wanting broken and senseless stuff to balance their “inferiority complex”. Sorry if it’s not the case for you, but you’re probably the sort that would defend how bristlebacks used to have 35k health. You guys put your cards into the most idiotic things; I remember people defending unblockable/undodgeable taunts, defending the ultime boon copy from Heal as One… Etc.
