I agree, even if it make ‘pro esports guys’ wait for their match 30 minutes. Because easy stomp match isn’t different than kitten kitten ing (edit: why it got kittened I’ve no clues) at mists. What is more, current system only reduces PvP population, because ‘PvE Johnny’ won’t try again after getting stomped few times by ‘pro esports guys’, nor ‘pro esports guys’ will consider it fun to stomp him.

Skyhammer, Spirit Watch and Courtyard are disabled in ranked, you can play them in unranked.

Which is plain stupid. Those should be moved from Unranked to Hotjoin. I always thought that idea of Unranked is to ‘practice’ without losing your LB points, however whenever I want practice with character Im bad with, I end playing maps I don’t even give kitten about…

@Duka: MMR has nothing with lb position. For example I’ve seen guy with 30% winratio (!!!) with similar amount of games as me higher than me (I guess his wins were worth +3, loses -1 due to his low MMR).

Blizzard system has nothing with desertion system we got. To mine understanding person who got short DC isn’t punished by Blizzard in anyway.

If you will force players to play Unranked game, there is high chance they will just afk in it, troll or sth, because that is what happens when you force people to do sth they don’t want to do.

However I would prefer to get ‘forced’ to play Unranked myself than get ‘Deserter’ aka ‘go afk 30 min’ due to DC, so I could just practice with my alt professions in Unranked ;P

the thing is, it’s a team game. who is the best PLAYER is completely irrelevant. Who is the best TEAM is all that matters in conquest game mode.

Disagree. As long as LB is made to represent score of single players. Because same player who can do 99-0 in premade, could do 50-49 with random people because he got used to ‘his team’ so much his way of doing things wouldn’t work with ‘randoms’.

Also you never know if someone isn’t just average filler in team and gets carried by his premade over and over, because others do so good he doesn’t need to be anything special.

Thats why I believe premades shouldn’t be allowed in same que as solo players.

I just wanted to add a few suggestions to the way rating works : It seems it rewards more playtime instead of actual skill . I suggest scrapping solo account rating and add teams only like gw1 , meaning it gives incentive to find a guild/team and play for ladder prestige and seasons etc . Plzz take into account you still have quite a few gw1 vets playing do something for these guys ty

Yea, you lose points while losing. Like... you win three games (+1+1+1) then you lose one(-3), you got (+/-0) because MM predicted you to win+win+win+win, however it can be three loses (-1-1-1) and one win (+3) because MM predicted you to lose+lose+lose+lose. Number of points gained is based on your MMR: the higher you got - the less you gain and more you lose; the lower you got - the more you gain and less you lose if MM can’t find ’equal’ teams.

I fully support a grace period in case of disconnects. The amount of people that leave a match (leave as in they are no longer present in the PvP map during a match) due to disconnects outnumber the amount of people ragequitting by A LOT. Based on personal experience, the potential rage-quitters will simply AFK in base rather than leave the game. The only people that will be hurt by an instant dishonour debuff in case of dcs will be those who are kicked due to server hiccups.

I think that Justin knows this. I guess they just belive people who make expierence of other players worse should be punished, even if those players doesn’t do it on purpose etc. I guess they may think that if they give 30m ‘deserver’ and lb points penalty to someone who DCs once a day they will reduce number of poeple expiriencing DCs and will solve problem this way? Nope, unless those players will stop to PvP at all which will just reduce GW2 PvP population even more.

Same way a mesmer would announce time warp/molymorph moa is up? Or a ranger’s entangle? I don’t see how this is an indication that engineers are overpowered. All elites are a bit “op,” and their long cooldowns reflect that.

So you’re telling me that it is a complex problem where blame cannot be placed with certainty; but you are willing to give dishonor those who disconnect.

Regardless of who is to blame, the disconnection ruins the games for others. Also, we cannot tell the difference between a rage quit and legit disconnect. Because of these two things we feel it is important to minimize the impact to other players.

I’m sorry if this happens to you frequently, but looking at the data it’s still fairly rare. We may add a grace period for disconnects, but you will still get dishonor if it’s beyond that time limit.

Allow teams to report possible ‘rage quitters’ after match maybe? I believe people won’t report people who got short DC and came back. So for example if someone gets certain amount of reports (like it’s in LoL) in X amount of time you could ‘ban’ him from sPvP for X, then XX days if he won’t learn anything. But yeah, it would require human to look at those reports.

Do you try to communicate with your teams?
I’ve found myself that I speak alot with my teams (especially when I see some people first time), like who goes where, when to leave far alone, when to do objectives, when to ignore them etc. Makes stuff much easier than staying silent, especially when everyone can have different vision of how the certain map should be played.

Practice match is worse than ever.

Honestly, I join hotjoins to spectate due to curiosity (wtb ability to spectate high tier ranked arenas!!!), however I don’t play hotjoins at all (prefer ranked arenas). I guess many players may do the same and that would explain why there are so many spectating people even when teams aren’t full.

There has to be a way to avoid this.....

Tip: don’t make your dailies in ranked que. Also don’t play daily class while playing ranked. Then your team has always advantage of potentialy having -1 of daily class. You really can’t complain while playing Thief while it’s daily class, can you?

Tip: I would suggest to learn about meta builds, then try them out. Main issue with “new” people to PvP is fact they try to achieve something with PvE builds which are horrible and bring nothing to Conquest matches. Also try to study your weakness and learn which scenarios you should avoid with certain classes, e.g. your team will be mad if you will assault far defended by turret engi all the time while failing with it (you should just let him afk there or zerg him down with numbers).

Sometimes even if you like class X, you will perform badly with it due to random compositions while playing solo. E.g. whenever I want to play Power Necro I end up in team with squishes and nobody is able to initiate team fights, stomp etc… so I’ve lately switched to Bunker Guard due to low amount of Warriors/Guardians in que and win ratio with it in last ~20 matches is like ~80%. It’s often good to be adaptive and pick roles your team is lacking in most matches than forcing your ‘own’ preferences every match.

Also losing a match and learn something from it isn’t bad thing. I don’t mid losing 500:>300 etc. Problem is when matchmaking gives you matches you can’t win and your team end losing 500:<300 over and over.

To deal with trashtalking and so called elitism you can always deal with proper ingame reporting (thats what other Esports usualy do, e.g. LoL). “Toxic” players will remain “toxic” even without displayed values, because they consider themselves 100x better than average Joe, even if they lack proper understanding of game mechanics.

What about showing player MMR compared to average & highest only for himself in PvP tab?

It shouldn’t be. The max points from 3 losses would be -9. I’ll take a look.

You could minimize the loss

Not that I care much, when I feel already penalized for something I wouldn’t be penalized in any other game and I don’t consider it fair… since it’s Anet fault – other games reconnect me instantly after like 1-2 seconds while GW2 logouts me completly.

I think there should be ability to pause game (1 minute, like it was in WC3 when one of players disconnected) per team to deal with such situations instead of punishing players for something thats not their fault, or just accept it as part of the game if Anet servers can’t handle reconnects well.

do you enjoy playing this game only for the leaderboard?

Don’t get me wrong, but when I play ranked in any game which has rankeds I usualy play such mode for any kind of ladder points game has, even if those points are or will be meaningless due to amount of games I play (not enough to get even in #1000 with my daily amount of games).
Things looks a bit different when I’m playing with friends, but well, most of people I knew already left GW2 long time ago so I solo Q only.

It’s simply not reasonable to expect a team playing down a person for 2 minutes to have any chance of victory.

I tend to agree. I’ve seen people suggest a grace period of 2 minutes, and that seems far too long to me.

I think something like 15-30 seconds is better, keeping in mind that you reconnect to the game before you finish loading and you may persist for a few seconds before the game registers the disconnection.

For me its a bit longer: You DC, you restart entire client (because it won’t you reconnect), you authorize login, you login, you start loading back, takes sometimes a bit more than just 30 seconds.

Actually if a teammate attempts to revive you, I consider that a blessing! Unless he’s like a D/P Thief attempting to res me through Engi grenade cleave! That’s just silly! Bad players never revive!

Ah, yes. Arena. I have fond memories of this game type from another MMORPG I used to play.

Wait for 45 minutes in queue, fight for 2 minutes, win because I run an overpowered composition, and back into the queue.

Can you imagine that in a game like Guild Wars 2, where depending on the builds, battles can last as little as seconds? I don’t think it would be worth the wait in a queue. Best keep organizing those in custom arenas, and hope for more Team Deathmatch maps.

In GW1 annihilation/deathmatch arenas used to have really low que times (~1-2 min) and since winning team wasn’t disbanded and was advancing to the next match in same setup it was pretty good experiance with more playing than waiting.

Feedback and possible improvements

I would like to point on few issues we got currently in ranked que.

1. Class/build stacking
As many of you probably noticed, team composition is like half of success in PvP. Premades doesn’t have this problem, since they can pick ‘perfect’ setup for their scheme and maximize synergy between classes/builds before joining que, however if solo q players would try to change their random team composition they will be punished for class switching which doesn’t have any sense.

What I would like to see changed there?
• Allow players to see their team members builds. This way we could adjust our own builds to avoid build stacking or just maximize synergy between builds to have better teamfights or just to cover missing roles.
• Allow players to switch classes before match starts without penalty which we got now. If you want to avoid ‘Build Wars’ between teams, just hide enemy team composition before match start.

2. Communication
Since communicating with team is crucial for proper team work and nobody has time to type while fightning or even people doesn’t speak same languages (EU). We also know that Premades will be often running voice communcators which make life alot easier. So I think adding voice commands would be good idea to make communcation between players easier.

I would love to see some basic stuff like:
• I’m going close/mid/far.
• Close/mid/far is safe now!
• Close/mid/far need help!
• I’m going for <x objective, e.g. Treb>

3. Respawn Timers for ‘Objectives’
Not really ‘an ranked que issue’ and you may consider it weird, but I would really love to see timers on certain objectives just by looking at map, like: how much time left to Svanir/Treb/etc respawn? I know Svanir respawn every 3 minutes, but forcing players to memorize everything that happens around isn’t really the best thing, even LoL and Smite show respawn timers in jungle in those dark and evil times.

4. If que will remain Premades vs Solo Q…

If que remain as it is, it would be really good to bring back feature from GW1 Random Arenas, where winning team would stay together for next match (until they lose). This would help solo players form teams that would be able to battle premades more on equal footing and maybe who knows, some competitive teams could be born this way?

In closing…
I believe dealing with all those 4 points would make playing ranked arenas much better experiance for many players.

This is the part of the reasoning behind locking profession. The other is to avoid Build Wars 2 and lower the amount secret knowledge that only experienced players know.

Indeed ‘…’. @Justin the best way to avoid ‘build wars’ would be to hide display whos in enemy team before it starts, so you could just adjust your own setup by picking synergies in your team and counter class stacking. If you hide whos in enemy team, people won’t be able to pick ‘counters’ and ‘build wars’ won’t happen.

The only OP thing right now is Mesmer daze, Immob stacking and Ranger Longbow.

The ranger longbow should do like 50% less damage at 600 range and 25% less at 900 range.

I agree, lets nerf Rangers because nobody plays them at competitive lvl.

Hotjoin win rank is 500 pts. Unranked Q loss is 500 pts/ win 1k. Ranked loss 800 pts/ win 1500. Even if you loose every ranked match you will be doing better.

I think UnR and R got exacly same rewards since last patch.

agreed, as a solo player, I can whoop kitten but still get wrecked cause team doesn’t know how to counter zerging…

then you should learn how to communicate with cats better.

Try to tell people where they should be – where you are going – target people.

Also don’t forget to deliver coffee to your team mates, ofc while doing your job during match. Imho we need /team voice chat in game or voice commands (like in Smite) to make communicating with team much easier, since there is no time for writing stuff during match.
