4 mystic clovers into the MF → 1 random ANYTHING
could be a level 5 white armor
could be 2 iron ore
could be an ogre pet whistle
could be Twilight
could be a Dragon Coffer
I’d definitely try it at least 4 times.
Rule #1 for Living Story items: Don’t delete them until the story has ended.
I still have around 700 queen’s gauntlet tickets.
re-reading the post… I don’t blame me for making that mistake. I had to wiki that ach to know which one is being talked about. my mistake
It doesn’t sound like he’s buying it just to play GW2. It will definitely do good on best performance. I’m not sure how much higher the graphics can go on it and still perform well, as I don’t have a similar computer. Hopefully someone else can give you better info.
You might be able to preview it. Basically, install GW2 onto a flash drive, take it to an apple store or best buy, ask them if you can see how well it runs on that exact computer before you buy it (put a copy of the .dat file on there as well for minimal amount of downloading).
I thought buying cheap iron salvageable armor was common sense. And I am a newbie.
that will happen. all obscure profit-making things seem obvious in hindsight. you should still give yourself credit for thinking of it.
such as superior rune forging. I found that you can make a profit by throwing major runes into the MF and selling the superior. not great, but it’s something. I made about 10g/hour. Then I realized you can sometimes make major runes for around 1s less than buying on the TP. that added another 20g or so to the profit.
Or if they announce that runes and sigils will become better and everyone goes and buys all the good ones and their prices double – that turned the 10g/hour into 50g/hour, and crafting them myself made it 70g/hour. It was as profitable as it was because it wasn’t obvious.

on the same note, add a collection slot for mystic clovers
I’ll add 800 gems to that! (can only buy in increments of 800)
although… most of those questions sound more like from an individual perspective and not Anet as a whole. Are you looking for one dev’s interpretation, or an official response?
One thing you can do:
I think it’s in the ‘Displays’ System Preferences.
it will show you both monitors, and you can set the resolution for each and how they are situated and if mirrored, etc.
drag the top menu in the little representation of the displays to the other display (the 2nd monitor). This will set the 2nd monitor as the main monitor, and your macbook’s display as the secondary monitor. Then, when you go fullscreen GW2, it should be on the 2nd monitor by default.
not a perfect solution, but may work good enough.
you might be able to throw it in the MF.
I like to save things that can’t be cashed in in other ways to save up then throw them all in the MF for a chance at something that can be.
first, have this ring in your inventory, then talk to the Mystic Forge. If it’s not greyed out and you can add it to the forge, great! save it in your bank until you have 3 more similar items. Once you do, put all 4 in the forge and you’ll get a random exotic out, which is likely to be able to be sold on the TP.
If you can’t put it in the forge, then the best you can do is sell to a vendor or destroy, or save it in the off-chance they make them salvageable in the future.
I got this ach last night.
I attempted it a couple times before success. one thing I’ll say is that the telegraphing and aoe circles are wrong. many times, I would be well out of the red circle and still would be kb’ed.
anyways, on the success, I got near here, but got kb’ed, blinked back to her, and downed her. I would of thought that wouldn’t count, but it did. My plan was to use Distortion to not get kb’ed, and TW to speed up the finishing, but I was a moment late in casting Distortion.
I got this achievement last night. Was some funny stuff. Was wandering around LA collecting the heirlooms, noticed the knights event was about to start, went over to the green one, waited a minute for it to start, we killed it – fairly quickly I should add – and I got the achievement. Then I went and helped kill the other two knights :P
it has one for what you bought and in what order, but pretty sure there is no date. I, too, would like a date stamp on it (though I caution that this would probably about double the database size for those transactions). However, a calendar that shows what you bought/sold on each day would be horrible. for starters, there have been days I’ve literally bought 10,000 items. it should be enough to just have a time & date stamp on bought/sold items in the transactions tab.
that’s not how people make profits on patch days.
they make profits by noticing in the patch notes that you can make a fancy back item, but it uses a lot of iron, so they buy all the iron on the TP at 1-2s and relist it at 3s.
you can’t predict those sort of things before the patch happens.
speculation is when you see something that you feel should be another way (such as thick leather), so you buy a lot and expect it to go up with a future patch. You don’t need to be active on patch day to make a profit on that – likely the most profit you’ll make is a day or a week after the patch.
elementalist is underpowered? aren’t they the profession of choice for things like killing lupi in under 30 seconds?
it’s because with conditions, every single application is calculated separately. so a stack of 25 bleeds is the same calculations as 25 physical attacks. one stack of 25 bleeds is the same computations as 25 other players mashing ‘1’. If there were no limit, 25 bleeds from 25 players would have the same lag as 625 players – which is about 4 times as many players as can fit on a single map instance. by ‘lag’, I mean skill/player location lag from the server not able to calculate everything in real time – which is different from you getting lower fps because of lots of special effects.
It would be pretty hard to get around that problem. I’ve read some suggestions: anything above 25 and it would just deal physical damage instead, at 25 it converts those 25 into a single condition and creates a new stack (so instead of 25 bleeds, each dealing 200 dmg it would be 1 ultra-bleed, each dealing 5000). None are perfect solutions: conditions would become OP from someone maxing bleed, then dealing instant damage (conditions are stronger than physical because it’s damage over time, so 5000 dmg over 20 seconds vs. 2000 direct damage). all applications of bleed are different: one source might be 200 dmg each for 10 seconds, another might be 300 dmg each for 2 seconds, etc. would probably be more resource-intensive to add all those up and create the ultra-bleed than just removing the cap – would also alter how good conditions were (you applied 300 dmg/sec for 2 seconds, but then it got turned into 100 dmg/sec for 6 seconds because it was merged with others, and another source of 100 dmg/sec for 30 seconds got turned into 500 dmg/sec for 6 seconds)
I used to lose the pointer during battles all the time. I haven’t since I increased it’s size. I highly recommend doing that:
On your mac, go to system preferences. depending on your version, it will either be under ‘Keyboard & Mouse’ or ‘Universal Access / Mouse’. Find the bar labeled ‘Cursor Size’ and slide it to the right. I went for about 2x normal size; I think 4x is the most. This will affect the cursor size in GW2, and for everything else on your computer, so it’s not a perfect solution, but a larger cursor is really easy to get used to.
ah yeah, scarlet invasions were fun. obvious what to do, easy and hard, good loot.
pavillion was a good side-show. can’t understand how people spent 12 hours a day there, but it wasn’t bad.

I’m lucky I walked right over it. I swear it wasn’t there, but when I walked over it while attacking scarlet, a ‘press shift to loot’ button came up. I was still moving and didn’t hit it in time, but I did see it. I thought it might of been asking if I wanted to pick up a banner, but I still am hopeful enough that I walked back, and there was the button again! I pressed it, THEN the chest appeared and did the opening animation. There were a LOT of players on top of it.
2nd time I did it, I was looking for the chest, saw it, went and got it. it should really be positioned closer to the instance entrance where scarlet is fleeing to.
as an aside, anyone else able to hurt her? I was dealing around 300 damage to her, which will never kill her, but at least it’s something. I have a feeling that it was from conditions.
make back pieces for 170 of your alts!

there was quite a few back-to-back chests there at the end, and this is going off memory, but from all of them, this is what I remember: 2 × 500 luck + 8 x green items + 50 influence + 3 obby shards + 1g exotic + lesser vision crystal + 2 obby shards + 3 greens + scarlet’s veil + power core + 1 rare + more greens + ascended materials
honestly, they need to reduce the loot from the mini bosses (maybe 1/2 of current) and increase the loot from mega bosses (5x current). also give partial loot for failed mega boss (1/4 of success)
@ OP if you can find indirect ways of making things which are profitable I’ve always found those ways to be the best. Also patch days are $.$
these posts always make me a little sad. I work patch days. patches go live at like noon I believe? basically, I’ve always been 5 hours late to the party. There have been only a couple patches I was able to profit from.
I didn’t even notice!
any idea if this is still a bug?
yeah, yeah, what RyuDragnier said!
actually, not quite what RyuDragnier said… more that it was pulled from thin air to illustrate what point I was trying to make – that they set the requirement to receive credit too high, so we aren’t getting credit.
I would guess the actual % cutoff is closer to 0.02%. My reason is that I seem to get credit for world bosses after 2 hits, or about 3,000 damage. http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1rw1q5/guild_wars_2_dps_display_app_by_balkanpy/ this guy made a mod that shows how much damage you’re dealing and how much remaining health the enemy has. He also has a screen shot of The Shatterer with a huge zerg, and shatter has 10.3 million HP. 3,000 / 10,303,200 = 0.03%. On the other hand, I’ve definitely dealt 500 dmg to a regular mob and not gotten credit for the kill – no way that mob had 1.6 million HP. So it’s probably something like “1000 + 0.01%”
Also: I got this achievement that you say is not working last night. Was some funny stuff. Was wandering around LA collecting the heirlooms, noticed the knights event was about to start, went over to the green one, waited a minute for it to start, we killed it – fairly quickly I should add – and I got the achievement. Then I went and helped kill the other two knights :P
I want a crown pavilion pass sooooo badly. even a one-day pass would be good enough. kitten up and take my gems! want. to. buy. those. recipes.
unfortunately, I think you mean royal terrace.
this might be related to the no-loot-from-knights bug… like they accidentally set it so you need to deal 10% of the damage to a knight for it to count as you killed it, so you don’t get loot or credit if you only do 9%, meaning the game thought you didn’t participate and thus didn’t give you the ach.
YHGTBKM!
(you have got to be kidding me)
yes, at 30k/mf point. went from about 230 to 245%. I could max it, but there’s not much benefit to just max it, as I’ll explain below.
clarification: placed buy orders for 600 items, 250 items each, assorted blues/greens of item types that would give a 1-2s profit per item. no idea how many items actually came in, but we can estimate that: 9 stacks = 450,000 luck ~ 22,500 items (10 luck/blue + 30 luck/green = 20 luck/item average) ~ 337g profit
now, if I had went the ecto route: 450,000 luck would take about 4,100 ecto (cost 1,517g), cost 25g to salvage, and give back about 7,380 dust, which can be sold for 1,345g after tax. net loss of 197g. and that’s only 15%mf. 55% more mf would be another 722g loss.
sure, I can afford that loss. But I don’t want to. I’d rather spend 10 hours of collect/salvage to end up with an extra 534g. (53g/hour, btw)
It is the slowest way to get luck, but it’s also the most profitable (what OP wanted, btw
)
50% profit, btw, is actually a reasonably good margin for your standard, day-to-day flipping. You can usually get that from simply trading low-level Blues and Greens, but those have taken a hit lately, with LA Attack allowing everyone to simply skip straight to level 20. Hopefully you can see where this is leading… but there is a new market that’s emerged from this event, that’s allowed many people to make 100%+ profit off of simple Green-flipping strategies the past few weeks.
As someone who has recently made 600 buy orders, each for a stack of many different blue and green items (I’m salvaging for luck and making a profit at the same time), I have to O_O at you for wanting to list those for sale. I would do a 1 hour run of LA under attack, then go get stuff from the TP and salvage. It would take me around 10 minutes to collect and salvage all the items that came in during just those 60 minutes. Each day when I came home from work, I spent almost 2 hours collecting and salvaging. and that’s all with a fairly quick click-click-click of infinite kit. I could not even imagine how long it would take to list all those items as sell listings, and how much I would hate the ‘Error attempting to sell’.
btw: after 4 days I got REALLY tired of it and removed all the remaining buy orders. ended up with around 9 stacks of the 200 essences (+15% mf), 4000 darksteel ingots, 6000 steel ingots, 1000 iron ingots, 1000 cotton bolts, 500 linen bolts, and a few others.
I wonder…
first, orrian boxes give about 1g every 30,000 karma
mystic clovers recipe….
1 obsidian shard + coin + ecto + 0.6 SP
coin + ecto = 38s
so that leaves 2100 karma + 0.6 SP
drop rate data says 31% chance of 1 clover, 5% chance of each T6 fine mat, 5% chance of T6 basic refined, 3% chance of a lodestone, small chance of other little things
so: (these include tp tax, because so does the orrian box estimate above)
5% of blood = 1.65s x 2 = 3.3
5% of bone = 1.43s x 2 = 2.86
5% of claw = 1.69s x 2 = 3.38
5% of dust = 0.91s x 2 = 1.82
5% of fang = 1.59 × 2 = 3.18
5% of scale = 1.7 × 2 = 3.4
5% of totem = 1.12 × 2 = 2.24
5% of venom sac = 1.32 × 2 = 2.64
5% of bolt = 0.29 × 3 = 0.58
5% of ingot = 0.52 × 3 = 1.04
5% of leather square = 0.01 × 3 = 0.03
5% of plank = 0.48 × 3 = 1.44
3% of lodestone = 3.41 × 1 = 3.41
sum = 29.32
so… this doesn’t even recoup the cost of the ecto. meaning that Zommoros charges you 8s68c to destroy 2100 karma and 0.6 SP for you.
had to split between two posts…
9) A couple ways I make profits:
I wonder… how much net worth would qualify for the top 1%? I know of one reddit post where they showed that they had like 130,000, but I know there aren’t many of those.
And what counts towards this? certainly gold. things that can be sold should count for what they can be sold for. but what about equipped legendaries and similar? does 1000g on hand rank higher than a guildie who has 8 legendaries on various characters?
“How do I become a 1% Lankybird.8149 33 538 Otokomae.9356”
538 views. at least 33 are duplicates. probably 50% didn’t read the middle 31 posts. at least 75% aren’t looking to play TPWars2. What I’m getting at is that maybe a dozen people will do any advice you give. And in the grand scheme of things, if there are 12 more people buying cheap rares, for example, what’s the harm? (considering there are around a million players) On the other hand, it’s too hard to give direct advice (wayyyyy too many things), so only general advice can be given, practically speaking.
How to become a 1%:
1) Don’t spend gold. View every purchase as an investment. If you buy something, you better be prepared to make a profit off it in the future. As an aside, do you know how many millionaires live near you in RL? more than you think – most of them live mediocre lives and don’t buy a new porsche every year, because that’s how they have a million $$ now. Eventually you’ll have enough that spending a couple hundred on shinies won’t impact your ability to get more, and you’ll see it as only a couple hours/days time to recoup – that’s when you slowly spend some.
2) Money creates money. If you have 10g, you could get 5g out of it. If you save up 100g, you could get 50g out of it. 1000g -> 500g. you get the idea. goes back to the “don’t spend gold” thing.
3) Be creative. the more obvious it is, the less profit you’ll get from it. If everyone knew that F&F dyes would double in price after a couple months, everyone would have bought them. Whenever I see someone post about adding sale history to items directly in the TP, I tell them that that won’t help them – because everyone will have access to it, so the info becomes moot.
4) Be patient. [almost] always sell via sell listing and buy via buy order (the exception would be if you get more profit/time with the other way or the spread between them is very small. The goal is to buy low, sell high; do not get on band waggons. If the price of iron ore is rapidly increasing, you’re already too late to invest in it.
5) Know what you’re planning and want out of it before you invest. and be reasonable. For example, buy 100 stacks of thick leather knowing you will save it until thick leather goes above 1s.
6) Be aware of your limitations. Don’t buy 7,000 rare back items if you can’t spare the storage space to hold them until they go up in price (I consider it a mistake… I made a profit, but it took like 6 months of almost no bank room, and it tied up a large portion of my money the entire time) also… sell listings do count as storage space; just a bit more expensive and less repeatable than private guild banks.
7) Learn how to use excel. could be used for keeping track of how much you bought something at, or could be for calculating the price you should pay for materials to make a crafted item. excel is capable of retrieving prices from gw2spidy.
8) 10g profit per hour >>> 100g profit per week. though I will point out that usually there is a limit to how many of that 10g/hr you can do, so you have to diversify – just do both!
The price skyrocketed today because power cores/watchknight loot has dropped off considerably. There is speculation it is a bug or that they nerfed it to one per day, so supply is getting drained.
Nerfing it to 1 per day, would mean you will be lucky to get 10 cores of 1 color within 14 days.
It’s not 1 per day. The first day, I got a loot from the first knight and none on the next 5 (so I thought it was one per day)
24 hours later, I killed 3 more knights and got no loot
one more day, one more knight killed, no loot, didn’t even bother with the other 2 knights.
it’s definitely not 1 per day.
I thought a dev said they never remove listings from the TP, even if the account is perma-banned.
one reason could be of difficulty – like, it isn’t easy to query the TP server for a particular account’s listings and offers (at least for many thousands of accounts at a time)
another could be because they don’t need to, so why bother. also the chance that the perma ban is reversed
regarding all those 1c offers… I have no idea why they haven’t removed those :P probably because of the first reason I suggested.
I will point out that they have removed one of my listings before, and returned the item to me. The mad king slippers – they changed it from TPable to account-bound, so they removed all of them from the TP. I believe it was just in my pickup tab, and I think they mailed me a refund for the listing fee, but I can’t be sure as it was almost 1.5 years ago.
ranger equipment will be made from leatherworker and huntsman/weaponsmith
then again, you won’t be able to make level-appropriate items while leveling, so I wouldn’t suggest going by that :P
just like 4 logs to make soft wood plank and 3 silk to make bolt of silk (they are different from other similar things), they won’t change this unless there is a good reason. You shouldn’t cause economic upheaval unless it accomplishes something. Sure, it would of been better if they made it unlimited from the get-go, but they wanted to test how well time-gated stuff was accepted by the community (I would say it was a poor test, kitten few would want to waste that much time on celestial, but that’s just my thoughts and I have no idea how many were actually made). If they did this, quartz prices would more than triple within an hour. It would be a long time before things were back to normal. That isn’t the sort of thing you want to cause just because it’s a minor inconvenience. If they had some sort of other reason to change it, such as no one was making celestial stuff and there was 500,000 sell listings of quartz at 34c, then they would probably change it – it would be a good reason.
again, I agree that this and a few others (such as the planks and bolts I mentioned) are better off changed, if only we could change them without causing a disturbance. But that disturbance requires an offsetting good reason to merit doing the change.
wiki warrior nonsense
Except it isn’t.
“On probabilistic grounds, all strings, say of length 64, have the same randomness.”
Would be the relevant part of what you linked.
Anyway. If it was random. The latter string would be a possibility. It would look less random to us however.
I’ll grant you a few things; I made those up out of my head, so they weren’t actually random, only represented what random is likely to give you. Sure, you can get the second one as a truly random string, but the chance of getting it are astronomically small. 45 bits = 2^45 combinations = 35,184,372,088,832. of those, two would be exactly 1,0,1,0… (the other being 0,1,0,1…). You would actually be more likely to win the mega millions lottery 27,952 times in a row than randomly get either of those ‘non-random’ strings. On the other hand, around half of those combinations would look similar to the first string I presented, so that’s why I believe the first was a better representation of a random string.
there are only two guarantees about Random Number Generation:
- You will get streaks of bad luck
- You will get streaks of good luck
when those occur are – you guessed it – random!
this is a random ecto return: 01100101011111101011000100000111010100000101001111
this is not a random ecto return: 101010101010101010101010101010101010101010101
Getting 1 ecto from 6 rares isn’t even that uncommon, much less rare. I think it’ll happen about once every 4000 rares? 1/(0.25^6) should approximate the chance fairly well. actual number is likely lower than that, as the chance of getting 0 ectos is more than 25%.
I still can’t think of any reason any item shouldn’t be able to be salvaged – well, with the exception of the radiant and firey ones from achievements, because those you can have unlimited of.
but, seriously, if you want to spend 42,000 karma on an item, why couldn’t you salvage it for 1 glob of ecto? orrian chests give like 500% more gold than that would.
invisible beams that will randomly disqualify you from a ach = bug
no way it’s a threshold problem. I was attacking for around 5 minutes dealing somewhere around 1000 dmg every second or so. even world bosses you will get silver credit and full rewards for attacking twice in the last 3 seconds.
also, got gold credit but no loot most of the time. how gold credit if not enough damage?
Anet sure is working hard to keep these threads off the General Discussion forum where most users will see them.
well… I hope that’s their way of indirectly saying it’s a bug and not a feature to know about and discuss.
1) remove all leashes. If you kite a champ, they should keep chasing you across the entire map.
2) give mobs more variety of attacks, including at least one ranged attack (with >1500 range)
3) only regen a mob’s health when it is ooc, the player would also be ooc at the same time
4) the mob will disengage and return to spawn if the player gets too far away from it; like 4000 range
5) enjoy
I’ve been wanting this for a while.
bugs are one of the the downsides to releasing temporary content every 2 weeks.
there’s a asura gate in Brisban Wildlands. top-left, going north. There are some green guards around it. you can’t normally get there (broken bridge), but if you do (experimental teleport gun, for example), it doesn’t go anywhere.
just sayin’
alternatively: let players move the vertical position of where the camera focuses on. like let people focus it a foot above the characters head (instead of their waist), so you aren’t as inclined to angle it down like that just to see the enemy.
I like to make parties named “absolutely no zerkers allowed” because I don’t want to spend the entire run scraping you off the floor.
lol @ “How is a simple equipment malfunction overlooked this far into the game’s life?”, then overlooked another 8 months
got loot the first knight killed, then nothing for the other 2 on that event (all gold credit, was attacking the entire time)
I left LA, came back (new overflow)
got gold credit, attacked the entire time, but no loot on all 3 knights
went to Dragonbrand server
got gold credit, attacked the entire time, no loot on all 3 knights
I was just accepting it was once per day per character/account, except everyone in map chat was saying they got loot every time. It does seem like too much loot to give repeatedly, but if you’re going to have a limit on one player, you should have the limit on all players!
I like the booster exchange merchant idea. Thats a great idea actually.
seconded!
also, please implement before deleting all glory boosters – are they even going to be deleted, or just made non-useful?
for me, basically every booster except for karma is [almost] wasted space
I’m thinking a Mystic Forge Recipe… maybe just improve the current one?
currently:
1 exp booster + 1 karma booster + 1 magic find booster + 1 leather bag = 1 booster multipack (which gives you 1 exp booster + 1 karma booster + 1 magic find booster = the exact same boosters you put into it)
just change this to be:
1 any booster + 1 any booster + 1 any booster + 1 leather bag = 1 booster multipack (which gives you 3 random boosters)
