As a general rule, I would use a Master SK to salvage anything you buy for under 4g. Above 4g, and it might have something about it that would benefit from a BLSK. BLSK do cost around 1g each use, so you should make their uses count. BLSK vs. MSK is actually based on what the salvaged materials are worth, but that’s harder to calculate, especially quickly.

I don’t see the logic of your general rule. Take the Carrion Acolyte Pants of Divinity, right now you can buy it with a buy order of 5g 20s 69c. If you use a BLSK, you are guaranteed to be able to obtain the Superior rune of divinity from it, which you can sell for 8g 41s 50c sell order. Sure you can be lucky and still get the upgrade with 80% chance from your MSK, but if not, you may not be able to turn a profit.

With BLSK you have a 61% chance of salvaging the insignia/inscription too if you buy an exotic with a salvageable insignia/inscription. With MSK, that chance drops to about 42%. You can sell a salvageable insignia for about 3g+.

Plus you get 1.75 ectos/salvage on average with a BLSK vs 1.27 ectos/salvage on average with MSK on a level 68+ exotic. Therefore, for the guarantee of getting the upgrade, you can still turn a profit if the calculations are right.

=

Another example, you can buy Yakkington’s Pauldron for 8g 33s 11c and sell the Superior rune of the Traveler for 9g 85s 97c. Not quite a profit considering the high price of salvage of the BLSK. But if you do get the Dire insignia from it (61% chance), you can sell it for 3g 11s 93c which would more than cover for the cost. Otherwise, hope to get 3 ectos.

Salvaging exotics is a way of getting ectos and dark matter. But it is risky with low profits, and you are not guaranteed to turn a profit. Furthermore, it is a highly competitive market with an auto outbid bot watching over the buy orders. It is not a good market for profits but I take that risk sometimes for dark matter and ectos. It is certainly not my main source of income that’s for sure. Definitely not a 10g in10mins investment, regardless of whether you logout or not. And if you do logout, good luck getting the exotic with your buy order as the bot and others would outbid you when it comes to a good deal.

I think you should re-read what I said. I said: 3g = MSK, 5g = BLSK. I was a bit wrong – I would say 3g would be a better cutoff to use.
Let’s do some examples:
Yakkington’s Paudrons. costs 8.3g, can give superior rune of the traveler (9.4g) and dire insignia (3g) and ecto
with MSK, costs 61c to salvage, 80% chance of traveler rune (7.5g) + 42% chance of insignia (1.26g) + 1.25 ecto (48s) = 9.2g back – 15% tax = 7.85g – 8.3g to buy it = kitten loss
with BLSK, costs 1.1g to salvage, 100% chance of traveler rune (9.4g) + 61% chance of insignia (1.83g) + 1.65 ecto (63s) = 11.86g – 15% – 1.1g kit = 8.98g – 8.3g to buy it = 68s profit
8.3g is higher than 3g, which is why we use BLSK

Now for lower:
Jalis’ Pauldrons. costs 2.5g, can give superior rune of the Dolyak (2.3g) and shaman insignia (2.9g) and ecto
with MSK, costs 61c to salvage, 80% chance of dolyak rune (1.84g) + 42% chance of insignia (1.22g) + 1.25 ecto (48s) = 3.54g back – 15% tax = 3g – 2.5g to buy it = 50s profit
with BLSK, costs 1.1g to salvage, 100% chance of dolyak rune (2.3g) + 61% chance of insignia (1.77g) + 1.65 ecto (63s) = 4.7g – 15% – 1.1g kit = 2.89g – 2.5g to buy it = 39s profit
2.5g is lower than 3g, which is why we use MSK
of course, if you get BLSK for free, then use them anywhere you want!

Best use of BLSK for profit.

to clarify: some exotics are very worth it to salvage for inscription/insignia. others, not so much. Dire and Shaman are the most common. lots of named exotics as well. If you’re interested in a full list, PM me.

That depends, I have been salvaging cheap exotics from the TP for a long time now. If you are using a BL Salvage kit, that would be about the cost of 1g/salvage. Most of the time, you need to place buy orders to be profitable. And there is at least 1 auto-outbidding bot that is frequently on that “cheap exotic with worthy salvageable rune/insignia/sigil/inscription” market and it usually buys in quantity of 2. It would auto outbid you very quickly. Your best bet is to do this while the east coast of the US is sleeping since the botter doesn’t seem to run it overnight for fear of detection by ANet.

Mystic.5934

I just saw a pic of traveler runes-to-come: http://dulfy.net/2014/03/28/gw2-ready-up-episode-9-livestream-notes/
before: +10 all, 2% crit / +15% boon / +10 all, 2% crit / +10% cond / +10 all, 2% crit / +25% ms
after: +8 all / +5% boon / +12 all / +10% boon, +10% cond / +16 all / +25% ms
in the end, that’s 6 extra all stats but 6% less crit dmg. I believe 36 ferocity will be around 3% crit dmg, so less crit overall, but more other stuff

Based on this, I expect Rune of Divinity to look like this after the change:
8 all / +10 all / +12 all / +14 all / +16 all / +18 all (78 total)
which would reduce crit dmg from 12% to around 6%, but add 18 stats everwhere else. I actually expect the new divinity runes to only have 12 more stats than the old ones, I just couldn’t make it work with the amounts (6/8/10/14/16/18 ? except then it’s more higher-bonus-weighted than traveler… I doubt they’ll do 7/9/11/13/15/17)

10 min of work at $10/hour = $1.66 = 133 gems = 8.8g
10g > 8.8g
not to mention that most jobs that pay $10/hour or more you can’t just pick up an extra hour whenever you want.

the comparison between game time and working time is completely stupid, it assumes people are incapable of both working and playing GW2 at the same day.

It also assumes all income from the job has to go to GW2.

Sorry, the reference got lost from Wanze’s post. I just don’t like wasting space quoting people when it’s not needed… except I took a min too long to write it and it was no longer right next to the post I was responding to. I was responding to this suggestion:

Simple, work an extra hour per week, buy 800 gems and convert them to gold.

Makes it roughly what you need per week and hey, you won’t even have to login to do some tasks like gathering, flipping or selling mats!!

and I was on the side of “don’t do extra work as a supplemental GW2-income”.

the other great thing about salvaging is this:
you’ll buy maybe 50 various weapons, salvage them, and end up with 3 different inscriptions, 8 of each, which each sell for 4g. point being that you get less than one inscription per item, and the inscription sells for more than the item. the salvaged materials are easier to sell than the item is to get. So once you have the item, you’re basically home free. the only holdup is wait time for buy orders, which you can cancel at any time. so there’s very little risk – only time required to place buy orders and sell listings.
note that this works best for low salvages. If you salvage a lot, I recommend selling in stacks of 10 and sell another 10 when those sell – that’s about how quickly those get bought per ~day.

Why no bag/bank/character slots on sale…………………………………………………………..

because people already want those, so no need to increase demand.
this explanation is why I stopped going to Black Friday sales. places advertise things like “up to 80% off!” – but the only things that are 80% off are a) hella expensive to begin with, and b) things no one wants where they ordered too much and can’t get rid of. things people want are usually like 10% or less off, if that. the last time they put these expansions on 20% off sale, the price of gems went up like 40%.

Your buy orders and sell listings are still active once you log out. The OP wanted ~50g profit with playing 10 minutes 5 times a week.

I am pretty sure that being forced to logout while waiting for hours outside the game is not what the OP has in mind.

I’m pretty sure placing buy orders and sell listings then logging out is exactly what OP had in mind. no way are you going to make 10g from 10 min of champ farming.

to OP, I’m going to recommend ecto/inscription/insignia salvaging. place buy orders for select rares and exotics, log out for the day, come back next day, salvage everything, sell list everything, place new buy orders, repeat. you can easily make 10g in 10 min. some items can give 1g profit per item. admittedly, only a few of those go through, but let’s say you place buy orders on 30 different items (maybe 5 items each; costs you around 200g), you will likely have 15 items to salvage the next day = 15g profit.
It doesn’t scale very well: the more you invest, the lower the profit per item, to the point where it’s only like 10s per item, where it’s not really worth your time. 10g/day is easily doable, but 100g/day is much more than 10 times as hard.

Flipping with x amount of money

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

/always/ leave yourself with some gold. If you spend all but 1 gold to buy items that will sell for a lot, then the price skyrockets, you’re left unable to even sell it. In that case, you can hopefully scrape together enough money to make some profit off it, but you’re better off leaving yourself with enough in the first place.
If you have 2400g invested, I would say you should always keep at least 50g on hand and at least 200g or so of buy orders you can cancel.

when I tried flipping, the % return was usually pretty low, but not as much risk as the initial investment would imply. like around 5-10% per day. meaning you place 2000g worth of buy orders, 200g worth gets filled, you list them and get 300g back = 5% return. but only 200g was actually risked – the other 1800g could be canceled.

maybe I wasn’t doing it right :P the best return I ever got was about a year ago: placed a buy order for one Passiflora Orichalcum Amulet of the Apothecary for 20g, it filled 10 minutes later, listing it for 55g, it sold 20 minutes later, so I got 26g profit in 30 min from 1 min or work (it was literally the only thing I tried to flip that day).

I fear they’ll remove the spot and triple his damage at the same time. while we’re at it, it would be nice if those turrets actually helped. currently they deal about the same damage as someone’s autoattack. so it’s not beneficial to guard them or even keep those turrets alive. triple their damage and people will actually want to use them and people will defend them instead of mindless attacking.

They specifically want all races to be as strong as each other. As such, they can’t have strong skills specific to a certain race. Even if they all were the same strength, they would be strong in different ways, making people who want to do that be forced to be that race. (such as if Sylvari racial was high dps and asura was tanky). They want race to be purely cosmetic. So by making racial skills 2nd best, you don’t require them to be whatever build you want to be.

the idea is to remotely connect to your home computer, open GW2, then navigate to the TP and you’re good to go. If you’re not trying to kill risen, it should be pretty easy.

sell listings are also FIFO, though the proof is much less compelling and easy to test. You can do the same thing, it just takes a lot longer and I don’t have the patience for it or desire to prove what I’ve casually observed. (sell listings are also FIFO)
also, what’s LILO? Last In, Last Out? that’s just re-describing FIFO. the typical alternative to FIFO is LIFO (Last In, First Out)

anything crafted does not give inscriptions. So Sentinel’s Pearl, Sentinel’s Destroyer, and Sentinel’s Quaggan do NOT give inscriptions.

because they wanted to see how everyone responded to time-gated crafting, no one made it, so they decided to test it again with ascended stuff to see if they could get some data points there.
Things tend not to be changed unless they need to be, and since almost no one makes celestial armor, this doesn’t negatively affect many people. never mind that the time-gating is half of the reason no one makes them.

I bought some select runes and sigils. sigils, I did ones that I think will become much more useful in the update. most of the ‘on crit’, a lot of ‘gain stat charge on kill’, a couple of ‘on weapon swap’.
as for runes, I mostly did the mid-costly ones. expensive ones are more likely to be nerfed, and dirt-cheap ones are usually dirt-cheap because they are too easy to get. the 10s-1g ones I felt would increase the most.
I didn’t invest a lot – not super confident about it. about 1000g total. my dye investments from last month are what I’m banking the most on.
