TBH upgrades should be FREE and the rewards for defending should be tenfold. That would be a good start…..
It’ll have a use in about oh I don’t know maybe 5-7 years time when they start working on Gw3.
Meh besides the annoyances of being told not to kill this or that when and where I have no problem with the “tramp trains” honestly the only good thing the Queensdale one is for is a good source of exp for low lvl players and social play for those who don’t mind mindlessly running around in circles.
There are far better ways to make cash so that does not even come into it for me. If people want to be bored to death doing this, let them.
There should be a free emote for everyone that displays the words “buy gems from the gemstore to show your support!” above your head while you turn into a gem or something and shine brightly. Find a gold seller then just spam this in front of their face.
If people are leaving the game it’s due to lack of content in general not the combat system. The trinity fans would have left a very long time ago.
Ps I am one of the people who are playing less here now due to the lack of content, especially non combat content and thus I am playing another game while still doing my dailies here now while I wait for new content. And for the record, no I don’t class Living Stories as new content, that’s filler. :P
I come from New Zealand and since we have no real Moa’s left here (except for that one still rumoured to be hiding out!) I can do nothing but support this idea.
Tbh I don’t find it a grind issue for this game (unless you are farming dungeons for their skins then yes I call that a grind), if anything it’s a very bad drop system with too much RNG for certain things. If this is what people refer to as the grind (having to kill things over and over again for a small chance at gaining that 1 mat they need) then again I say it’s not a grind issue, just a poor drop system. And yes I agree that needs fixing.
Lastly I do not count time gates as a grind, if anything they are the opposite of a grind. Still annoying none the less….
If those players feel it’s a “grind” I really wonder at what game they left GW2 to play. Call of Duty perhaps?
GW1, genius.
I doubt that very much…..

Heck right now I’m playing an even grindier game alongside GW2 because it has more content/rewarding game play right now…

New tutorials and possibly a change to personal stories up to lvl 10 or 20. Thus effectively killing off key farming as well. :P
i totally understand the OP, for a feature patch that is supposed to resemble other MMOs big patchs, this is practically nothing.
What does other MMOs give?
Well I’m currently playing an old MMO that I came from to here because it has a lot of content. Something that this game is lacking in right now. Having said that I am not on Anets case about it, it will come in time. And the way this game is (pretty much free to play) there is no worry about not playing this as much or as often as I normally would. Having said all that I am still playing here and am watching what’s coming here. There really is NO NEED for people to play the “anet better do something big or special or they will lose players” game because really, the way this game is designed, it’s just not needed.
Too little too late, I fear.
QoL mainly, and adjustments, that will only target new players?
The stuff we have seen so far is as game changing as the introduction of pets not all being moved to the bank with the ressources. Sort of nice, sort of totally forgetable.
And removing the cost from repairs? A feature? Did anyone ever complain about that fee ever? It was so tiny, that I always thought the WP fee was the penalty for death.
True, I always considered the cost of repairs a nuisance fee. But I’m glad it’s going away…one less unnecessary thing to bother with. BTW, does damaged gear reduce its effectiveness? I was never sure on that.
Also, I’ve been playing since the Beta, have 18 chars (15 of them lvl 80) and am looking forward to the QoL changes!
Damaged gear has no effect on the stats they give. However as soon as 6 pieces of your gear become damaged one becomes broken and that piece then provides NO stats for your char. So it’s always best to get things repaired when you are at about 5-6 damaged items as any other piece will become broken as more and more pieces become damaged. It works something like that from my memory.
While these changes apart from the wardrobe system may seem small or over hyped as you are saying there is something you are forgetting here. That being that ALL these things are things that many, many, many people have asked for many, many, many times since launch. So in that context to a lot of people these are HUGE updates and will kill off a great many number of topics on the forums from ever appearing again.
Should these things have been in since launch? Possibly, again either way tho in the end it’s us the players that are getting heard and finally getting things in game that we are asking for and I for one think that is a great thing and a good step in the path ahead for the game.
No one does events pretty much as you said because besides the karma (which is pretty much useless anyways) they are simply not rewarding enough to do. For the map you are in think of it as the temporary LA since that was destroyed and has no access to bank/TP etc now. This is why people are just standing around and chatting or afk. People just feel the need of attention from others or that social interaction and LA was the place for that.
As for nerfing rewards, as far as events go they are already (supposedly) working on better rewards for doing events so perhaps the measly 1-2 silver we do currently get for doing events wont be effected at all. Perhaps it’s just the events that are currently part of the “tramp trains” that are going to be hit since they get both the event and champ loot rewards.
Let’s just hope that if ALL events are hit because of these changes they also are bringing in the better event rewards that they have promised for some time now. Which btw I figured would be similar to champ boxes anyways…
I really don’t get why they had to tie this in with the “tramp train” at all. I very rarely die let alone even get downed. So I am hardly ever paying for repairs anyway. The thing is I don’t do any of these “tramp trains” so saying they are lowering those rewards BECAUSE of the removal of repair costs (as well as other rewards in other parts of the game which may impact on me) is something I am just a bit iffy on. I sence they just want to remove cash in general for some reason…..
Also something else to think about, seriously how many if any that do run the “tramp trains” actually die to have to repair their gear anyways? I doubt any, so again this just seems strange to me to be tied in…
I guess the next thing they will say is that Dungeon rewards are also going to be lowered again due to this change. Oh well, again it wont effect me as I don’t run dungeons but if so I can see an uproar coming to the forums.
Don’t worry, from my experiances from Anet with regards to April Fool’s it has always been fun stuff for us to do and never a cruel joke. I can’t say the same however for another company who’s game I am currently playing while also playing this. :P
Tried it, you don’t get any Transmutation stones. =(
I don’t ever recall getting stones for this map, only ever exp.
All I can say is I LOVE this Wardrobe update. Very well done for it ANet. Now let’s all just hope it does not cause too many problems as some people are theorising.
as i said in the other thread
tell me again who are you going to sell those dyes to, the TP to rot there forever. Or maybe your going to vendor trash them?
Wow your going to make big bucks that way.
Not sure who you are asking that question to tbh, but I will answer that I am not stock piling any, in fact I bought 280 with my laurels and sold them on the TP to those buying them all up. Thanks for the free gold and new harvesting tool to all of you who are buying them.
Ask a simpler question: Is an unidentified dye worth more or less after the April 15th change?
The answer is more, because 1) No more random drops, 2) Every dye now works for all characters.
Now, how much more is another question.
We don’t know if they will still be available from the Laurel merchants, which I should think they will be so they wont be THAT hard to continue to get. Of course the demand will go down thanks to alts not needing them now so I don’t know exactly which way it will fall tbh lol…..
Best to get prepared guys. What you can do is farm them until these changes go trough, I would estimate creating a new char and doing the 6 cities (including LA) should take no longer than 1-2 hours at most. Do this 1 or 2 times daily until the new changes and you should have a nice number of charges saved up.
I’m lucky I still have 300 or so stones sitting in my bank from all my map clears on all my alts.
Another option if you really want to make sure he wont attack you is to kill it first on your main or another alt. I did this once or twice myself.
Ranger shortbow is mainly a condition weapon and range is shorter than a longbow, so following Paulyntz’ advice the longbow would be a better option. Just be aware that damage drops the closer you are to the enemy, but maintaining distance shouldn’t be a problem with the pet as distraction.
Other options I can think of:
Mesmer greatsword. Similar to Ranger longbow (unless you trait to increase the longbow’s range), and you can use Clones/Phantasms to distract the enemy in place of a pet. Not as easy to pull off as with the Ranger though.
Guardian Scepter. One word: Smite (skill #2). Probably the best DPS range option, but only if you can rely on the enemy staying in the AoE. Against a single target, Chains of Light (skill #3) immobilizes. Against multiple targets, hopefully there’s a friendly meatsh…err, Warrior, around to distract them.
I would add Engi to the list except that what you stated about the Ele is also true for Engis…
If you prefer a more casual approach, Ranger with longbow is the best option. Just avoid dungeon speed runs. :-)
I main an Engi and I can say that the ranger far out does me damage wise at ranged or even melee range. Engies really have no real burst damage, the flamethrower is as close as we get and that’s still slow. I have to say tho Engis can be a very good survivalist as well as slow killer solo of champs but then again I guess any class could be in a survival build/gear.
If you feel really cheap, you can also adjust the value of the Full-Screen Gamma in the settings to see in the dark.
As this guy said, adjusting the gamma down to about 20-25 (hmm maybe that’s the default, might have even been zero-ish) if I remember correctly is a VERY GOOD option. When I did this JP I could see EVERYTHING.
Tbh unless you are a ranger it’s kind of hard to stay ranged as any enemy will run straight at you anyway.
I still use ranger for any farming I do as he kills very fast with my build. Berserker, Stalker for pet with full pet trait line, he does bulk damage and is constantly healing himself. With longbow and my stalker I can easily throw some 20 or so stacks of vulnerability on enemies. He can tank pretty much all vets and some champs even. I have a bear on standby if he gets close to death to buy him some healing time vs champs.
You can send your pet at one enemy by hitting F1, then change target to another and kill a separate one yourself as well. Or what I personally like to do is run close to a group of say 4-5 enemies and send my pet at each of them, hitting them all once each. Wait for them to gather around him then smash them with Barrage. Piercing arrows is a great trait as well as you can line many of them up and hit them all.
Of course you will get others saying ranger sucks bla bla and that you can just melee. But if you really want to go ranged I would def give ranger a try.
Rice picker isn’t racism. It’s a joke.
It’s like saying all swedish people are blondes.
It’s not a joke it’s stereotyping which is VERY close to racism. No one likes to be on the receiving end of it.
Why not wait until you know ALL of the details of the feature pack before jumping to conclusions and inducing mass panic?
Said it before and I’ll say it again – “why not ask the devs to not release all of the info instead of just some of it in bits and pieces?” Cause and effect at work.
It’s the impatience of so many people on the forums that is the cause of all the panic not the fact that ANet has decided to release the info in chunks. If they released it all at once, then the vast majority of you people wouldn’t read the entire blog post from top to bottom anyway. At least this way everybody is more likely to read the entire blog post every day so that they have as much info as possible. We already have enough people who didn’t read ANY of the blog post about the trait changes and are on the forums asking questions that were answered in the blog post and complaining about stuff that is incorrect.
Ok wait, so you are saying people will read all the information because it’s separated over many days rather than because it’s all there on one page on one day? Sorry I just don’t see that. Either way we will have those people who you speak of posting without having all the information because you are right, some people are too lazy to even read any of it.
PS I am speaking mainly of the information relating only to the trait changes and anything else connected to that such as this post/ lowering the levels of mobs because of it. Would it had seriously been so much to not post all the information at once on one page regarding all of this? I am not referring to every change to every system that is coming at all. Prevention is better than the cure, of course only giving some of the information will cause people to speculate, question and possibly some to “panic”, btw I am not panicking at all.
It’s possible that this could happen. If so I would not say that the main purpose of it was not to hit key farming as such, that would just be a bonus for them.
Solution: start saving all of those lvl 20 scroll items that you get here and there along with the lvl up scrolls.
Anet of course could instead offer new instant lvl 10 items in the gemstore, you never know lol….

Getting levels in this game is not a grind at all, takes at most 2 weeks to max out if you play as intended (exploring maps and clearing them and doing personal story). Of course you can get there even faster just by farming events/running the queensdale train. But no one EVER in this game should EVER try “just killing mobs” for levels outside of events because that will truly get you nowhere, that does not work in this game.
ArenaNet Managed to make the difficulty balanced… But failed completely at rewarding the exploration in lower level areas.
No matter there is chances to drop or level stuff, it will never compare to the drops we get from the Orr Maps for example, and that is not a balanced game as ANET insists on believe.
This is one of the things that damage more the “Facilitating Friendly Play”.That’s why sometimes i did wish to not be leveling at all in GW2, and no scalling, so the things would be equally rewarding and difficult around all game. There is nice areas to explore and fight on, but it will always end up on “I can make more time worth more in other place.”
While this tried to balance the game, it also made PvE only rewarding on lvl-80 zones, that are still the areas where we can make our time exploring worth more. While this isn’t fixed, PvE Maps will remain mostly empty.
Actually I find that the opposite is true. While trying to farm for mid lvl mats (example rugged leather and the cloth for that tier) you get screwed out of it because of the lvl 80 junk that you DON’T Want. Have you seen the differences between tier 4 and 5 mats lately? That right there tells you something is wrong with the current drop system. Your only option is to hunt things that drop lootbags and that soon becomes a bore…I am more of a roleplayer and would prefer to kill an animal for its hide/leather, you fail because you get lvl 80 gear junk instead of hides. This becomes much more noticeable in the mid lvl maps, low lvl maps seem not as bad.
Well, i believe the, if they spread all node resources and resource mob drops towards all maps depending of our level (if 80 drops tier 4/5 on all maps) it will balance everything and spread people around all PvE.
To fix some problems that exist they could make a way to convert higher tier resources to low tiers at a rate they define, 10Tier5 converted to 25Tier4, etc… etc… For people still get lower tiers resources.
That will fix the major balance problem with scaling that is the material drops of a lvl 80 monster and not by close to what drops on lower level areas.
I have suggested letting us downgrade mats not long ago, example from say 5 to 4, then 4 to 3 etc. I think things like this could go a long way to solving some of the problems. But the loot system seriously needs looking at. At no time in any game should one ever desire loot of lower level than the highest they can and should be getting, that just makes no sense lol.

Play in Orr you say? No ty mith and that tier leather is junk, only the silk now is worth anything finally after so long. Of course if you are lucky to get tier 6 that’s a different story.
All we need now is free changing stats to our gear whenever we want/need so that we can TRUELY play around with all builds. But I just can’t see this happening….
I don’t know about most people but I actually have MORE fun when I’m steamrolling things. I dunno, something about those extra shinies and feeling powerful for all the work I put into my char. Of course I love a good challenge too and as such there are places I go to for that (WvW, PvP, solo champs and play on the highest maps etc).
So please, don’t say that we ALL will get bored.
All of the examples you give are racial skills, which they have said from the beginning are supposed to be a little underpowered and more about flavor than actual utility.
Some professions aren’t balanced around having a pet out permanently. It just isn’t what those professions are really about.
Spiritfire wolf is not racial, that comes from the deluxe upgrade. But you are probably right, to have it not seem like too much of an advantage or “pay to win” I guess.
I guess it’s so there are not too many classes running around with “minions” which would kind of take away from Necromancers what sets them apart. But you are right, these really are usually weak and too weak to seriously consider using them. Only my Human Guardian uses the spiritfire wolf because for pve solo playing the guardians really have garbage elites and that’s the best choice for him…
I can dream:
“Removing Restrictions:” Anyone can guest on any server, no matter what “region” you’re home world is in…. like I said… I can dream
That would be a dream for you but a nightmare for anet!
I love the idea of horizontal progression unlocked by actually doing content in the game world…I love that it will be easy for them to add a greater variety of traits for players to choose from. This system is definitely a step in the right direction.
This isn’t really horizontal progression, though. It’s more of a horizontal digression. It’s taking an existing feature of the game’s vertical progression, and locking it behind a barrier that you have to overcome or bypass. Outside of those Grandmaster traits (which you can’t see until level 80), there’s nothing actually new here.
Maybe there’s an appeal to that that I just don’t get. So many people seem happy with the idea, and I don’t see why.
Giving people more to do at max level is never a bad thing. When there’s already a ton to do, but no real incentive to do it…adding incentive is a good idea. Giving people more variety in experiences, and more variety in build choices is good. Making a system which allows for the easy addition of even more variety in the future…even better.
It’s a game. Playing it isn’t a “barrier”… it’s the whole point.
The old system required you to pay 10 gold to get your grandmaster major and minor traits. This new system allows you the choice of paying gold for the traits, or doing content. It’s better all the way around.
If this was simply unlocking new traits/lines via killing x boss or doing x content yes I would agree with you. But that simply isn’t the case. This is going to make things slightly harder for lower lvls in my experience/opinion. They will simply NOT have that extra healing from a trait at lvl 60 now, or extra stealth for x amount of time now until the very end – lvl 80.
Tbh I am wondering if this is all in aid of a possible incoming increase to lvl cap, that would certainly explain some of this..

I think people are happy that we are finally getting to change our traits for free etc and are taking this as one and the same thing and that we can’t have one without the other. :S
Yes I’m happy about that side of it, but for new players I do worry. I have all classes at lvl 80 and I got them all there by completing their world completes. I can say things will def be a bit harder without those trait line bonuses, especially in these dead maps… I really don’t know why so many people can’t see this, maybe they all run on just one warrior class and faceroll everything or forgot how things are at lower levels.
We are allowed to SUGGEST that Anet adds these features yes. But we are NOT allowed to go out there to internet land to find any such mods/whatever advertised by third parties and start using them in game.
First person has been asked for since the very start of the game mainly because it was in GW1 and immensely made that game a lot easier to navigate around.
Pls wait at least until friday and the ready up livestream before giving rude comments about the patch, you don’t know how exactly everything will play together.
You seriously can’t expect that when they post this information now can you? You may as well say to the devs who posted this info to not post it until nearer the time etc etc. Cause and effect, that’s how things work. :P
Hmmmm let’s see:
The Art of Combat – I would say the balances to classes that were advertised ages ago.
Critical! – Bound to be Zerker gear/Ferocity
A new way to explore – Camera changes, maybe 1st person view finally?
A colourful Outlook – Dyes maybe or weapons being able to be dyed?
Looking For Groups? – LFG finally being out of Beta.
Removing restrictions – More info for the trait changes.
Account Bound – more things account bound, perhaps legendaries etc.
A Solid Foundation – Guild Halls maybe or a major story to LS.
Facilitating Friendly – I would say a big chance this is all Guild related, again possibly to do with halls.
Well that was all off the top of my head, probably miles off the mark. :P
I’m just lucky I have all classes now at lvl 80 with everything unlocked. I seriously wonder how many people will now make new alts and rush them to 80 to unlock everything before these changes come in, I would like to see the stats from Anet on that. Psst Anet, NOW might be a good time to do a price special for char slots!
PS, we wont be getting refunds will we for all those gold that we spent on our manuals? :P
Yes, in the form of having all existing traits already unlocked in the new system.
I figured that was the counter balance but hey it was worth a shot! Don’t try and take away my free shinies!
I think this will only make things harder for new players. With this, and the dead maps they encounter when truly exploring and trying to level up (as was originally meant via exploring) they are going to find things truly difficult without the trait line bonuses.
Then again those who run with the zergs farming Queensdale wont have anything to worry about I guess…. :s
PS, we wont be getting refunds will we for all those gold that we spent on our manuals? :P

Depends on the map and time of day tbh. If you play on a NA server and from another country in hours that are not Primetime USA you will def notice it. I do as I play from New Zealand and usually hours after America goes to sleep. I just roll with it and enjoy the peace and quiet tbh.

This person spent REAL MONEY (probably) on something and did not get fully what they wanted. Since when did any of us pay for this new possible dragon, LA and bla bla.

This screenshot was taken during the time the game was plagued by a bug that caused npc’s not to display their helmets during cutscenes. As you can see, she is clearly bald.
Yes but I don’t trust bugs, the bug could have easily taken any hair out as well.
:P
Send in a ticket with your concerns and I can’t see why they wouldn’t give you a refund.
