Grats on the discovery way back when. But now it’s time to listen to me – all this is to pave the way for player housing and YES they will be charging us for said housing probably, however I’m not so sure we will be paying any beggars for that…..

Oh yeah I call dibs on the…wait I don’t really remember any cool areas in LA….ummmm, nm I change my theory.

L.A. model? this thread isn’t what i expected it to be
i nominate rox
oh, i cutn’pasted marjory to be over at the bar by herself where she belongs :<

Aww Rox’s eyes get me every time, she’s just so cute. Wait is that even right for a Human main to be saying/thinking?

But anywho if we were talking about the kind of models you had in mind I would think Keil or whatever her name was would be more fitting since she did have that gigantic hologram model of her that time when she beat out Evon in L.A.

They did this already. It’s called Southsun, just not underground.

It worked out so well.

The problem with Southsun is it is totally a lvl 80 area and even then it is more created for groups. If we are talking all zones that we have thus far with let’s say one new map coming each 2-3 months or so (which I would be happy with) then just think of the current zone lvls. All starter zones dungeons would be aimed with those levels in mind with possibly some areas in them for the higher lvls or small groups of said levels.

Levels and difficulty aside (again mainly referring to Southsun) there should also be more incentives to go there. Really where Southsun is concerned all that springs to mind are karka shells and those passionfruit things. Surely they can come up with more than that with a little bit of thought.

The mobs there are not exactly fun to fight either, sure they might be a challenge the first few times you fight them but how long does that fun really last?

To everyone else who have read and replied ty let’s keep this going for a little bit longer.

So…you want a map that is for individuals. That has better rewards. And you want enemies that are “fun”, and you want it to be easy too.

Gotcha.

Way to try and put words into someone’s mouth. I am suggesting that that some of us might like “new maps” to tie some of us over that are fun to explore, no major lore addition to the game which can be fun to go to and fight in which includes ALL LEVELS. What’s wrong with that, you got something against low lvls or having fun?

As for rewards, Anet likes to reward players they have said so in the past, besides we ALL play games for reward in some way or another. Weather it’s that next level up, that map explore done, killing that “newb” in wvw or finding new monsters to slay that oh just hey might have a new wep/armour skin or some other fun item reward why not?

fishing in game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Personally, I have been in mmo’s that involve fishing. it is a nice addition to the games, but somehow doesnt fit into the gw2 universe.

May I ask you why you want to be able to fish??

Some games attach achievements to it. Given the boring way those achievements are often done, that is a no no for me. I’m actually glad that GW2 dropped the more boring achievement in the meta compared to gw1 (many are still there but just less rewarding).

For others it is loot. But as said, the activity is boring and shouldn’t be very rewarding if implemented.

The final reason from my experience would be fishing just to be able too. if implemented it should need a small reward (e.g. 5 achievement points for catching 15 different kinds of fish and 5 more if you caught a total of 500 fish). This I would have no objection too, but I’m afraid that it wouldnt make fishing very popular. So in my opinion its best to let fishing exist in other games.

For some people skills such as fishing in games is a good way to wind down and relax while also feeling like you are progressing something, somewhere, some how. I have said it before on occasions that this game is too heavily revolved around combat. Why not other activities for fun or just to relax a bit? It also gives a sense of immersion since we already see npcs fishing here and there and gives a feel to the world that you are actually part of it. Personally I would also like having a “job” or career and such to have as past times too but that’s me and I wont go there with that topic yet lol.

Ps don’t try and bring the argument with the current mini games as a way to wind down. They are all fast, heated sit on your edge style gameplay as well just as combat, WvW, Spvp is. I know you would mean well but yeah, you know what I mean lol.

You can always delete or store on an alt or something, or they could give us a new collections tab somewhere similar to the AP reward items.

To the others, theres plenty of bank slots and expansions these days, or just delete. :P

Yea this game definitely needs more open world content. Why not make all the dungeons open world so pve commanders and their zerglings can conquer them!
I mean..look at all those successful attempts at tequatl and wurm and marionette..

The sarcasm is strong in this one lol. Where do you see me asking for bosses specifically or zerg content? My idea is more for those players that are always posting asking for more maps and places to explore. Surely more options on playable content can’t be a bad thing, if anything just more options.

I think it would be easier if they just let us collect from the TP from anywhere. Really if they allow us to sell on the TP from anywhere what really is the difference?

I imagine you can not collect items to keep people from buying things from it in the middle of dungeons like potions. Farmers could probably use this to their advantage as well. Who knows the real reason, Anet is funny that way.

I guess that kind of makes sense, but over all it still seems odd lol.

what about non-instanced dungeons like the tower of nightmares? (a dungeon not necessarily has to be underground btw) If any of you played Ragnarok online before will understand, that kind of dungeon is quite fun, you go around killing trash mobs and going “deeper” into the dungeon, usually at the final level a boss mob would spawn randomly, in RO we had looots of grind in those dungeons, but you could add some rare cosmetic drops, so the grind is not forced… some well placed grind can be actually pretty fun, getting that piece of armor after days of killing stuff feels pretty good

Dungeons underground, towers, forested high cities in the trees or floating cities etc etc, all works for me. As long as they are “new maps”/places to explore while actually WANTING to go there to kill the inhabitants as the focus is really what I’m after.

In another game I used to play people would call “farming” “training” because basically you have to truly grind for levels. The thing was the loot was worth it not only value wise but variety wise and even tho the combat was very boring and not very engaging the whole part of the process was fun. People actually went out of their way to go to specific places to kill specific beings. We don’t have that here because A: Bots/diminished returns and B: the loot drops themselves.

I am hoping such ideas as this one could kind of bridge the gap between the two and find a middle ground with regards to the exploring and going out to specific places to play specific content.

So yeah your ideas of towers and such would all work in with that, thanks for the contribution.

Burning down LA seems masochistic and has shark jumping potential. I can’t help picturing the devs posturing, “Come at us bro. We’re willing to burn the whole thing to the ground!” This type of inflationary story telling mirrors the inflationary model being applied crafting.

Hopefully the reward of rebuilding the world makes this worthwhile. Would be interesting to see player choices and actions influence how the world is rebuilt. Tyria could really use some sandbox.

Maybe that’s it! The answer to the “why” – LA to become the area where player housing is located! Meh one can only dream and hope. :P

I think the best you could ask for from support is for them to bring the char back to life. Then you could transmute them to white items for the skins. That would be the best outcome here. I have heard of them bringing back deleted chars before for people for some reasons. You never know, might be worth trying.

Where exactly did you hear that? Their posts on the forum seems very clear about not undoing character deletion.

I’ve seen it posted before, can’t recall where or when or how many posted it but I have seen it. Don’t ask me when or where because as you can tell if you look at my post history I pretty much read the forums and post every day and have done since launch so I can not pinpoint it at all lol.

Account wide skillpoints makes no sense to me at all. It is something the specific character earns imo.
Besides you can already buy things with your skillpoints after getting all skills and I believe those items are accountbound (Some of them are anyway) so there is definitely no need for this.
We already have dailies, monthlies and achievement tracks that gives you different rewards.

Yes, after you buy these things they are accountbound anyway so why are the skillpoints soulbound? Its just annoying, nothing else.

Actually most of the good stuff is soulbound, everything in the pic below EXCEPT the last item is soulbound. Tbh this suggestion makes little sense to me. It would also totally kill off the “learning your class” aspect of the game when you create a new char because people will simply unlock everything at once and not give most of the skills a good chance to test out.

You can’t unlock everything at once because the skill tiers are level gated.
Also, the main idea behind this is that account wide skill point pool would allow for the reputation system I mentioned which would be a form of character progression beyond 80 that is also alt friendly.

I can understand wanting more progression and things to use our extra skill points on, but again I still don’t see the need for them to be account bound.

I agree, I’ve been wanting an open world dungeon as well. Reminds me of Avalon City, as well as many other dungeons in daoc.

I thought we were going to get one when that spire or whatever it was called was previewed in a past LS, but it turned out not to be.

I watched the video you linked, tbh not sure what I was watching there but I get the idea, your group in a dungeon or something fighting off waves of bad guys. I think we really do need something like this and as I said they would be treated as “new maps” to tie us over until the big expansions come.

Thanks for your support.

hmm, not sure, that would be more less like the rest of open world with different terrain skins. I wonder if randomly generated dungeons (new at every fresh instancing) would be fun. Sure, often quirky on the logic side, but sometimes good old dungeon delving is enough. Probably not easy to implement in a 3d fully explorable environment.

I have thought to suggest the randomly generated dungeons in the past as well as I too like how they feel and work in games. Runescape for example did it well but it was considered a skill there. There has also been a few single player rpgs over the years that did it quite well.

I would not mind some form of this type of dungeon as well perhaps as a new for of mini dungeon or something. But as for my main idea in this post the idea was yes new maps with new looks/feels, a skin if you will. But unlike the surface world where there are npc’s, villages and races living in their spaces with “monsters” here and there in between these spaces. We would see the monsters themselves as such in “their” environments (on a bigger scale) and they would be the reason for visiting the places as well as the basic exploring. I hope that makes sense lol.

Sylvari can be a good choice for ranged builds because those elite seed turrets can be a lot of extra firepower, that might be a good choice for your ele if you plan to go ranged. Also for engi I find human is great because they get another option for a heal skill which has a far better f heal skill than most of the original.

So basically you don’t want dungeon, you want an underground map.

In pretty much any other RPG that is pretty much what a dungeon was. A place to explore and find great riches while taking on the dangers of it. Nothing wrong with that. As I said what we currently have are just instanced missions. Heck with my idea they could even ADD the current dungeons and truly have them as explorables that we can all go to as an non-instanced map and just hang there or whatever.

So in summary to your question – “yes” but with a bit more style and flair. :P

I’d like to see it too, but I would still see comments like this topic about how player housing options are a waste of resources, please give us Cantha already. Just about anything major they do is going to catch flaming about how they “wasted” their time developing what was “obviously not that good”.

There’s a lot of what I’d like to see in the game which wouldn’t be received well by people in general, and a lot of tweaks I’d put in which would make it to the top ten lists of “horrible ideas implemented into GW2”.

An option for permadeath being one of those.

Happy to see real responses. And you’re right about the relativity of what is considered good or bad. I guess my main gripe is twofold 1) too many temporary things that I find out about after coming back from a break or even long vacation and thus can never enjoy 2) While I did read an interiew hinting to an expansion I worry that it is low priority and it shouldn’t be.

I guess I’d feel better knowing how big their team is… Sorta imagining under 100 but no idea. I’m used to more niche games with very little personel .

I can understand your frustrations about missing certain events and some of the rewards that came with those. This to me is the worst thing about the LS and temporary events. I only wish they had some way to let players do them if they missed out….

There’s a game called “Wizardy” you might want to look into, that might be what you want when it comes to permadeath and hardcore mmo-ing

I wasn’t being 100% serious. I despise permadeath most times because it simply winds up I make one mistake, one misstep and I lose everything.

That said, it would make WvW more interesting if for one round anyone who was killed could only participate in Edge of the Mists. Or could only be noncorporeal as an observer.

I dunno, I think the death penalties in WvW are about fine the way they are. You are sent back some ways unless you are lucky enough to have a nearby keep with a WP. The same can’t be said about PVE with all the waypoints everywhere. That’s the number one reason people wont wait to be ressed when dead if they even see you running to their aid. They just think, pft why wait an extra few seconds when there is a WP closeby. If anything perhaps what you suggest or similar ideas should be implemented for PvE or remove some of the WPs.

Of course not all players want the same features. I for one would like player housing (and for the love of god do not do only guild halls Guild halls is completely counter to the whole point of player housing). You can call it a gimmick if you want but many people enjoy having there own customizable space. It also increases player loyalty (Rift’s dimensions are so good I still log in solely for that feature) and perhaps above all adds a good dose of RPG to a game that, in my opinion, does not promote this well. To me this is the #1 feature I’d like to see, but of course that is my opinion.

They have said in the past that player housing and guild halls is something they really want to do. The thing is they don’t want to rush them just for the sake of it because they will probably then fail to deliver. So they really want to take their time to do them right.

Now as for the holiday events etc, what we saw last year and the year before that was basically the laying the foundations of the holiday events. That NEEDED to be done so that it would be less work in the future years. Of course doing all this work obviously helped to take time away from working on the said player housing and guild halls etc. So helpfully now that those foundations are out of the way also with the additional staff they have been hiring (new teams for this and that) recently they can focus more on the housing etc.

Time will tell I guess.

Yes, yes, and yes. And I hope we get to rebuild even BIGGER Lion’s Arch, because this isn’t a city, this is a village. It’s the size of a bigger town square. That was always my problem with this place, being too small.

The size wasn’t the problem for me, it was just too ugly……unlike DR anyways.

Next on the list? Charr city please! Get rid of those gear looking floor tile things, seriously no offense but who thought that up, gears (cogs)? :S

How about no? BC is the best freaking’ thing in this game haha. The gear and metal is part of Charr culture and hands down they’re the best. And LA has nice design to it, has it’s history and that explains the architecture, but as I said its toooo small.

+ it’s made of wood. Has no defenses. No walls. No airships, no navy. No army whatsoever. It was attacked multiple times by now – not just in GW2 but in GW1 too by mursaat and charr. You would think it would be a kitten fortress city by now! It’s virtually unprotected… that always bugged me.

The Lionguards are idiots and soon they’ll taste it first hand.

No but seriously how many times have you cut your paws on those sharp edges of those gears? Be honest now…. :P

Now before you say hold on, wait a minute we already have explorable dungeons! I am not talking about what they call dungeons in this game right now. Which tbh I would rather call “Instanced missions” rather than dungeons that can be explored.

No, no what I mean are NEW MAPS that are open world but just underground. Imagine it a whole new map the size of Queensdale right under Queensdale. A new place to go and kill nasties for a change in scenery and perhaps even challenge. These new maps could tie us over until if/whenever expansions or their replacement updates come that bring in new world areas such as crystal desert etc etc.

Why do I think this could be done in the meantime? Well simply because with a dungeon (remember being a whole new map) they could bring in new things without going too much into detail/lore etc. Think about it if they brought in say Cantha for example there would be a massive amount of NPC’s, cities etc that would come with that which would require a lot of work. A dungeon, all they need to add are new enemies with new mechanics, the physical locations, any new rewards and possibly a little bit of lore and bang – new map done.

Something perhaps those of us wanting to explore more can do and even have fun while doing so. Perhaps a place where you go because you WANT to kill critters for various reasons not because you are running somewhere and are just killing them on the way. There could be perhaps whole new mining areas and such as examples. Heck even make some parts of them only reachable via people having to mine the way there in the first place! Example you could have to destroy parts of the actual cave by mining and you could need many players covering a large area doing so which could take up to an hour or so. A mini game perhaps so to speak to reach a destination.

It’s just small ideas like this that could add new flavour to the game, while also giving us new maps to play in until those big updates arrive that we are all waiting for.

Opions? Hate or dislike? Have your own ideas? Dsscuss.

Well one thing is evident from this, it seems Anet are still willing to take risks with this game for the game. Well be interesting to see how it all turns out.

I have a feeling it wont be destroyed, besides it wont even be the first time the city has been attacked. It has been attacked before in some of our personal stories which I might add was one the most memorable parts of any of the stories I have done on all 8 chars.

I just hope this turns out to be more than what I expect it to be.

Oh, it will be destroyed..

I havn’t seen this yet but I will now. But thinking about it if it is destroyed then how would people that do the PS that I did even get to do the exact attack part of the story I mention lol?

Hi. I’m Vin. Personally, I’ve always loved GW. I just hit a point in GW2 where I couldn’t feel like it was fun to play. I take this with a grain of salt as I have no friends really capable of playing with me, nor do I really wish to be a social butterfly. I quit for a long time, but I want to play again, it’s just I don’t know what people do at my level to really get into it. I’m not big on pvp, I prefer to avoid group activities unless it’s like dungeon pick ups (and with the difficulty of the dungeons that I remember, PUGs were in large part unsuccessful), and I am not big on completion-ism. I just want to get on and fight big monsters and immerse myself in my character, but I’m having trouble getting there when I can’t find anything to really get the feel of life in Tyria. I really wish that this games professions had like, actual activities to them or like there was some kind of gimmick to help us cool down from just constantly fighting things.

Has anybody else felt similar before? If so, how did you cure the mundane? Any and all suggestions (besides just hopping into “totally huge super guild name here”) are welcome.

Thank you.

Try a non mmo genre game.

Honestly, if you want a good single player experience, MMOs won’t fulfill it. The Old Republic tells a decent story for a MMO, but still not as good as a single player game where the game is designed from the bottom up for one person. MMOs are designed from the bottom up for group or short individual experiences. They are also designed to bleed you for cash (f2p or sub), and there will always be an undertone to make you feel like things are just dragging out.

You’re just never going to get the same feeling from an MMO as from a quality single player rpg, or if they do ever make one that does….everyone will be playing it.

Actually said MMO does exist and has done for 10+ years. It is called Runescape but it is a VERY grindy game and comes no where near to the quality this game does. However it does feature 1000% times more content especially when it comes to NON combat things such as crafting, gathering and training up skills etc. You may want to look into said game OP if you don’t mind crappier graphics etc. I don’t play it anymore due to the original creator selling out and the game been turned into something that it originally was not….

Oh and lastly that game has no real story to it, only small stories here and there told through the quests.

Having said all that I DO wish that GW2 feature a lot more content type like that does, such as the NON combat more wind down feel type. Where you can just sit, relax while still progressing something in some way.

I’m a warrior myself. I don’t join groups with a ranger/necro/engi and when one joins the group after me, I leave. My dungeon/fractal experience has significantly improved ever since.

I believe you had some bad experiences with bad players and then blame it all on certain classes tbh….

I can tell you right now that I have NEVER been kicked from any group as my Ranger unless I was actively trolling a group that had a “NO RANGARS” title (which was all of twice… and the second time was absolutely hilarious to see one Warrior raging when four Rangers jumped into his party all at once).

Honest to God truth, I do not believe this “will kick [x] class” is NEARLY as prevalent as some people want to believe it is.

LOLZ that made me laugh just THINKING about it, you must have peed yourself seeing it.

Don’t see why anyone would play ranger. The damage is abysmal and the pet AI is broken and this has been admitted by ANet on the forums as well as the fact that they have no plans to fix it.

I use my ranger anytime I want to farm, he has good burst damage with longbow (yes I said it – longbow). Skill 2 is just like most other skill 2’s in the game – burst damage. My ranger does damage a lot faster than my engi does. Engi’s have no burst damage unless you count the flamethrower and that’s still slower than longbow 2 for a ranger.

Pet is no issue for me, most smart rangers KNOW to send their pet in first for the first strike and THEN you fire your bow.

It’s been like that for my last 3 world completes I’m sure……so that’s about 3 months at my rate.

It bugged out the first month of release.

I know it was bugged several times as for my first few chars I had to try it again each day until I finally got it. It would also depend on your server, some servers were bugged more often. It seems they have given up on it by the sounds of things and just left it in this state, I guess that’s better than it bugging out every second day…

Umm if anything they would do it by race. Go try the Asura dodges, they are the best looking and imo if they were done by classes the thief would def get the asura version.
