Autorun toggle irritation

Umm I have auto run set to my “W” key and never use the other way that I guess 99% of you people do (holding it down to move constantly). I see no issues with the auto run feature at all. I really don’t know why anyone would prefer to hold a key down nonstop tbh.

Actually I lied perhaps. I do notice sometimes that my char delays to run or seems to just stand there sometimes when I am for example running in wvw and am paralyzed. After the effect wears off my guy does not run straight away and sometimes I have to hit the run again. Happens when gathering sometimes too I think but I always just thought this was a “me” issue. At times I spam the run key to start running and of course it stops then starts and stops me again of course lol…

I have a feeling this feature is already making it’s way into the game but it’s not totally free. What I mean is we already have the item to free travel to Divinity Reach through that certain place. How long will it be before we see similar items for the other cities? I am thinking not long at all, of course they would not be totally free being that you have to spend gems to buy the said item…..

I’ve done that heart 8 times now and I must say that and the troll trading one are the 2 most annoying in the whole game lol. The best way I found doing this one in the end is to just camp the first pole thing and just sit there and wait for it to be able to be tagged again. Sure it takes about 10-15 mins to complete and is boring as heck but it beats moving to the other pole things and getting caught all the time and then restarting. I advise watching tv or something while siting there and waiting, in fact reading the forums worked for me. :P

Of course, it’s all subjective.

Yes but at least with that or world completes you can do it without huge amounts of cash or RNG for precursor drops. A sure thing, at least he has an option that gives that, “a sure thing” where as I don’t.

Healing, is there a substitute?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

A dedicated healer does not really work here. The idea is for your group to bring a main heal and a few other extra heals that can also support heal others. If everyone brings that there should be tons of heals.

Some examples of these extra heals:

Warriors – shouts
Guardians – symbols that heal (from what I remember, if not symbol some other name)
Thief – Putting invisible on other players can also heal
Mesmer – Healing clones/phantasms
Engi – Elixir Gun/Bomb heals (most effective on human for the extra F Key heal from the dwayna heal)

If that number covers both NA and Europe then yes easily.
Of course you have to spread those numbers out across servers as well as those locations. Even then you have different time zones so will never see everyone on all at the same time. Add to that even if 99% of the players are all logged in at the same time they are then spread thin amongst all the maps, wvw, dungeons and etc so the majority of the PvE maps will still “seem” dead.

it means the game revolves around using the #1 weapon skill to accomplish everything from riding the ‘Queensdale Champ Train’ to defeating massive world bosses to zerging mindlessly in WvWvW. its a “SKILL-based game” and that skill is auto-attack.

Are you saying that spamming various different keys would make playing this game more skilful? Honestly these kind of statements are so yesterday now and very incorrect.

There is a lot more to this game than just using skills and knowing when to use them that could be called using skill. Some things that could be said as such are:

1 – Your build, knowing when to use what build.
2 – Your skills, knowing when to use what skills for what situations and as such weapons that bring those skills as well as utilities. Also in many cases spamming the number 1 skill has benefits. Examples can be a guardian using a mace, the 3rd hit will heal you and allies, there are MANY other examples such as those that continuously stack conditions.

3 – Positioning, some people say this does not exist here but it does. Weather it comes down to stacking in party boss fights, or being on the front lines in WvW and knowing when to push and pull back. Also if you are dangerously low say for example in a champ fight where you are fighting with maybe 1 or 2 other people, again pullback to buy much needed time to heal and then get back into the fight.

4 – Food, there are many foods and other consumables (oils, stones) which have a lot of various effects. Again using the right foods in the right situations with the right builds can make a huge difference.

5 – Being a support player to those around you. Know when to heal others, know when to revive them, know when you should jump in there and try to take the aggro from an enemy when an ally may need time to heal etc. Of course this matters very little in zerg situations but when you are out and about roaming around or just partying in a dungeon it can make all the difference in the world.

6 – Communication, use TeamSpeak or map/team chat in places like WvW and PvP. Let your team mates know what’s going on, what needs help and where. Remember this is a MMO not a single player game and no one can read your mind. Knowing what information to pass on and when also takes skill too in many cases. Don’t just spam every little thing that is happening.

7 – Knowing your enemy. Get familiar with the NPC critters before thinking you are godly enough to just run in and take a whole army on yourself. Likewise for other classes and various builds they can bring. We all start with 5 char slots, feel free to play around with the other classes in the sPvP area for free. Spend a good hour or so on each class and see exactly what strengths and weaknesses they have – with ALL weapons/utilities/traits.

I am sure there are many other things I have overlooked here and not put down. But for anyone to say this game takes no skill I would have to say they haven’t really tried much and obviously just take the easy path available themselves.

Lastly I would like to say it may not take much skill to simply play this game but it does take skill to be a good player, especially in all aspects of the game . :P

Wow…more assumptions…great. I’ve been rocking Tyria for nearly 9 years so don’t get that twisted. I’ve had 8 geared 80s for about a year now and although your noble advice surely comes from the heart…you seem to not make a distinction between being prepared and being skilled. All of your ‘advices’/tips/quips/unfounded assumptions are completely out of context and have little to do with true skill. Than though for trying but my point demands just as valid as when I posted It. In fact, If YOU would like some tips hit me up in game any time and I’ll be glad to teach you some things.

Ummm I have 8 chars all with 100% world complete now I don’t need your advice or tips but thanks for offering anyway. Okay so you played GW1 for a long time, a lot of people did, but tbh that really means nothing here, 2 totally different games.

Hey I never said they didn’t dumb this game down any because they obviously have. But for people to say you just stand still and auto attack is plain rubbish. Sure you CAN do that in a lot of the content but all of it? Ummm no you will fail.

“All of your ‘advices’/tips/quips/unfounded assumptions are completely out of context "

My “advice” or whatever you want to call it I’m sure may help some new players to the game while it also does point out again that there is more to this game and what some people can term as “skill”. If you can’t see that well I can’t help you, maybe you are looking too much in the mirror and thinking too much thoughts like “I’m awesome, I have played a game for 9 years now, I am pro”. Okay, now you can say I am getting twisted. :P

GW2 combat is broken

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

I’ll tell you this, I will NEVER run berserker mode in sPvP simply because you die far too fast and then have to wait around to respawn and those times can be lengthy at times. I pitty ANY fool who thinks having a survival build over pure damage is the wrong way to go.

The same goes for WvW, except for the fact that dying sends you all the way back to your nearest wp or base AND you usually have to pay for repairs.

The combat system is NOT broken in this game. Simply YOUR view of it is. There are NOT meant to be healer roles. There ARE meant to be survival builds who can also offer SUPPORT healing. There are NOT meant to be pure tanks in this game. There ARE survival (again) builds who can last in fights vs champs/big groups of mobs for far longer than pure damage builds.

Depends where you are and what you are doing tbh. If you are in wvw and there are a lot of people nearby you are gonna take a hit because of all the combat effects etc. It also depends on your system. For example I take a big it in enclosed areas like dungeons and mini dungeons. Pretty much anywhere where the camera is in tight areas and struggles to find a good angle and where there are a lot of light effects such as torches on walls and such.

I’m thinking things like:

1 – Guild Halls
2 – Player Housing

3 – Some kind of clothing/skin locker (with all our old earned skins such as past holiday/LS events being there exactly like the AP chest skins)

4 – More opened maps
5 – More added to the PS with the dragons

Any or all of this stuff would make 2014 great for me. A lot of polish has been done to the game since launch and some annoying things have been done away with (example, holding right mouse to turn selecting enemies and such).

They have also done all of the backbone work to all of the holiday events as well as have practice with the living stories. So really if we think about it, 2014 SHOULD bring us some exciting things.

I’m not exactly sure what you are trying to say about this post. But the fact remains that Anet couldn’t please everyone anyway, it’s impossible so they shouldn’t even try.

What they can do is set their minds (new manifesto, whatever you want to call it) on what/how they want this game to be and stick with it. Of course taking our feedback along with that shouldn’t hurt either if done correctly.

We see groups now where players stack and can easily take down bosses very fast. Just imagine if there were 8 members. I think that is Anet’s concern with 5+ members, too many healing coming from everywhere and really it seems they want heals to be on the low side of combat, well that’s what it seems to me anyway….

Any class is perfectly fine if you go with toughness gear and possibly invest into the trait lines that give you better healing/defence support. Done this on my 1st 7 chars to world complete.

Only my 8th did I try going the “zerker” route. Doing that I had little problems and I would say I completed it a heck of a lot faster. But if this is your first char I would suggest the toughness route until you are very used to the game/your class and how the enemy AI/maps work.

Map Completion Challenge

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

A better challenge would be to get 100% map completion without being level 80. May not be possible anymore with the account bonuses.

I’m pretty sure this is impossible. I have all 8 chars at 100% world and I got them all there from lvl 1 completing 1 map per day. I didn’t farm any levels or events just did any that came as I went along. Just doing this and the 1 map a day I was always easily lvl 80 only 10ish maps out of the 25 (not counting the cities) done that you have to complete.

You can easily get much more maps than that completed before you hit level 80. I’ve leveled 6 characters doing only map completion. I’m sure it can mathematically be computed as to whether it’s possible or not since everything gives a % of experience.

You must have skipped pretty much ALL combat and ALL events. Either way I’m pretty sure it’s impossible. Remember it’s not just hearts, POI’s and vistas that give exp, just opening up certain new areas of the map gives a huge chunk of exp, then there’s the map complete as well.

Making money farming BLC keys?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

so basically just an average of 10g an hour ?

you can make more that that by farming mats….

It’s all luck. You could do 1 run and get super lucky and get a full ticket (happened to me before) then as soon as new wep skins come out you can use that 1 ticket to buy whatever weapon sells for the most and bang an easy 60+ gold.

Another thing, farming keys gives other nice things that help out. BLTC salvage kits helps you to get ectos, if you are in a small or personal guild you can get a lot of guild influence items from these runs. I am in only a 2 person guild and thanks to all my runs and doing the personal story on 8 chars I have a full guild bank all unlocked. This all helps with more storage of course. So it’s not ALL about making cash.

You can indeed make cash from farming keys not only from the tickets but also from the minis that drop. But like others said it’s boring as heck and it is all RNG based of course. So you can get good and bad days.

Myself, I can only do maybe 1-2 runs a day before I’m bored and I only do this when I am totally bored and really need a new BLTC salvage kit. I look at farming keys as the same as buying one of those scratch and win tickets. You know you will more than likely fail and get crap but there is a chance at something nice and it is a quick thrill in the end….

PS, to any who have never tried to farm keys and thought they might try at some time, you might want to start as soon as possible. I say this because I have seen talk from Anet about them adding in a better intro to the game for new players that will walk them through certain learning phases. I suspect this will be mandatory (and probably be for every char you make) and will probably kill key farming as a side effect because it will probably add a lot more time to the whole process.

The orr maps are pretty fast to clear too since there are no hearts to bother with. With those exotics you can use what you need and sell the rest to help buy the rest that you want/need. Apart from that just do whatever you find fun in the game and in time you will have enough to buy/make what you need.

Now the Neverwinter Ranger is a different matter, it hits hard, has long range, good weapons, both ranged and melee, and it feels like I’m actually doing something, not just pew pew, oh look 37 damage…………………..

Me thinks you need to change your gear/build up some. I have all 8 classes at 80 and 100% world complete and when I want a fast killing farming machine I ALWAYS turn to my ranger. Enemies go down in seconds, vets/champs not too far behind either.

Ummmm, you could just buy like the cheapest 300-350 dyes and try them all. They shouldn’t cost too much….

Rox's Quiver any chance to up?

Pretty sure it was up again not too long ago, 1-2 months at most. So it is possible I guess that it may come back again. If not you can always craft a regular quiver at the mystic forge.

unlimited gathering tools?

Not sure if those exact tools will be back. But they seem to bring out a new unlimited tool each month or 2. They are usually based on whatever holiday event is at that time or living story if no holiday is up.

Personally I think all the old unlimited tools should be on the gemstore perm, I really see no reason why not. I don’t believe that people buy these strictly for the “exclusiveness” of them.

I have bought them all so far strictly for the convenience of them and I intend to keep on buying them until each of my 8 chars have them. Ideally I want each char to have a different one so I can build up a roleplay type thing with them.

Do DE rewards need improvement?

These posts crop up all the time. A problem with the game – add more rewards. Somewhere else is now short of rewards compared, well add rewards there too, and again, and again. The designers can’t keep handy out rewards like candy. Dishing out the champion loot bags was exactly that type of fix and it’s the cause of many problems.

What is needed is a fix for the champ trains as the content scales badly. Players are tackling group content in zerg numbers and getting groups based rewards far too rapidly. It’s difficult to fix but it is surely better to fix the imbalanced content than fix all other game content to match the imbalance?

Champs needed a better reward than what they used to give and as such I feel the rewards we are given now are worth it. The problem is that everyone just farms certain champs in certain maps. Anet needs to deal with that via either upscaling these events or looking at the rewards. As far as the rewards go I would be perfectly happy if the fine mats that came out of these champ bags/boxes were appropriate for the map. That being: Queensdale – ONLY tier 1 fine mats. Maybe with this change people would have more incentive to go and kill the other champs. This could be a good way for us to get certain fine mats that we need as well.

As far as DE’s are concerned Anet is already aware the rewards are not good enough and are working on them. I do not agree with you that these rewards will imbalance the game. All they need to do is make them on a par with Champ loot or even make them better IF the event is harder/longer to do.

This would then give people CHOICES rather than “oh I’ll just hit that champ train again because DE’s are crap”.

Another thing that could be added to these vendors could be Dungeon tokens for whatever dungeon is in the area. This could give us another way to earn them, ideal for people who do not like to run dungeons.

Drawing powers from the dragons? I don’t ever see that happening, it makes NO sense. They are the enemy, and what then once they are all defeated?

No I don’t give a rats about the name “Paragon”. I want the spear back as a weapon however. Also for guardian a lot of their light offensive spells come down to summoned weapons. I would not want anything of that sort for a Paragon type class. As I said blessings or something similar could be like a constant buff, or perhaps similar to ranger’s summoned spirits. Perhaps something like an Aura, a continued glow if you will that could offer newer bonuses that current boons don’t offer. There are plenty of ideas that can be done here.

What I offered in my last post were very basic ideas of what could be done obviously, point being that Anet could very easily bring the class in and have it play differently than it did in GW1 as well as have it play differently to the current Warrior and Guardian classes. People just need to use their brains and imagination for more than 5 seconds and they could come up with something.

Having said all that, what other ideas have been suggested thus far for heavy classes? None that I recall. What other weapons could be brought in which could give a char a class flavour? Of course some could say a Dervish type class but imo that would be more a medium or light class.

Lastly where I mentioned Gods that too was straight off the top of my head. The other races DO have alternates that replace the Gods, as it is in the create the char process. Obviously the Blessing/whatever you want to call it would be tied into those races and their replacements that they have for their Gods.

Guardians use spear

Err what now? Warriors can use a bow does that make them a ranger all of a sudden?

Yes they do need work for them thus why Anet ARE currently working on the rewards. I have a feeling the rewards will probably be on a par with champ boxes.

My only hope is that they don’t just carpet reward all events the same reward. What I mean is those events that are harder to solo or take longer to do (due to time limits/frames) should have a better pay off than say a simple event like destroying the Maw’s Totem pole.
