You can convert it to gold and then get gems.
And then he can convert those gems back into gold! O.O
We’ve all seen threads about the fact that GW2 is alt-unfriendly (massively so). I have a suggestion to mitigate this. How about a new item, let’s call it the ‘Vision Crystal’, that does the following:
1. The Vision Crystal can only be purchased (from the gem store for say 1600 gems) by a character that is Lv. 80 with full map completion.
2. The Vision crystal is account-bound, and can only be used by Lv. 80 characters.
3. Double-clicking on the Vision Crystal will permanently reveal/open all waypoints on all maps for that character (but not POI’s, Skill Points or Vistas).
4. A character using the Vision Crystal will no longer be able to get the completion rewards for any map zone, so use of the Vision Crystal should be weighed carefully. No one, and I mean no one wants to go through the incredibly tedious and boring process of map completion multiple times just to allow them to do events on their alts instead of using their ‘main’ all the time. I have 8 Lv. 80 toons, and I’m for kitten sure not doing all that make-work stuff 8 times. Seriously A-net, how ’bout it?
Well I am doing my 8th world complete now, so take me off your “no one” list please. I still enjoy doing world completes besides a few annoying hearts here and there (stealth heart in Ascalon I’m speaking about you).
Having said that I would not mind something like this being put in. But what if you regret it later that you can’t get world complete anymore? After all once we can craft precursors it might be more realistic to work for getting another legendary later on and for that you need world completes.
I spent about 200k on obsidian shards a few weeks back and still have 3.3 million karma now and still fear I don’t have enough!
Always got to be prepared and all that. :P
Well we have a nice aquarium that we can throw you in, oops I mean show you.
E-bay has a good average mix. We also pull off miracles when the underdogs. :P
Un-equip them and take them to the guy at the BLTC in Lion’s Arch who sells the weapon skins (up stairs) and he will trade them for account bound for free.
Personally I like the one from the HoM, it looks like marble if you imagine hard enough.
I’m not sure having a set silver value would change much, but I do think the rewards need to be a lot better, especially for those events that take a lot longer than others.
Personally I would like to see a guaranteed rare mat or possibly 1 dungeon token per event complete. Dungeon token fitting whatever dungeon is closest to the map you are in.
The only ones that we can sell are those bought from the minipacks from the gemstore. Others are from achievements and such. Being able to buy/sell those ones would make the rewards for those events/achievements seem a lot less/useless.
I can’t see it happening sadly.
From the way they have been releasing these tools it has been 1 each month or two (rough guess off the top of my head) and it seems to fit into what ever holiday event or living story is happening at that time. I doubt we will have this tower/toxic living story for the next couple of months. Also my guess is one of the next two tools will be Christmas themed.
I’m sure a lot of players already did a post like this… but I feel I have to do it anyway. I played GW1 for 7 years… and expected GW2 to stick with the same phylosophy (actually, this is what the developer said during the game development).
Here are the main aspects of the game that I dont like at the moment. Please dont reply just to say “so quit and we will not miss you”. I would not miss you too. Is just that after more than 8 years of GW I want to give my opinion (thanks).
1) Why an “infinite progression” system? The developer said this game was based on fun and content, not on farm and grind, but all the new updates just add new things to farm and new progressions… that are no more optional. Reaching the “max-level” requires hours and hours of farm, not fun. Farm should be only for the skin, like it was in GW1.
2) Why only temporary contents? The Living World idea is good per se, but most of the new contents are small and are just removed after few days. There are no permanent addition to the game. After more than one year there is a lack of interesting new contents to play with. In particular, players who like exploration are frustrated.
3) Why no expansions? The Living World content released so far feels like “just a filler”. It is extremely boring and quite “disconnected” in terms of Lore. The expansion approach used for GW1 allowed to add a lot of new areas to explore and new coherent storylines.
4) What about the personal story? The idea was nice (with room for improvements anyway), but after we kill Zaithan, there is no more personal story progression, and all the recent updates just ignored this aspect.
5) Is Anet scared of big events? The game contains some great events like the one in Harathi Hinterlands, with big chains. Most of the other events in the game are small and repeated every few minutes. There are big potentials in the Events mechanic, but I feel Anet should experiment more (for instance letting guilds conquer and defend outposts in PvE and letting the consequences of the events staying the world longer).
Now I dont understand why they called it GW2 instead of something else, considering that there are almost no game mechanics surviving from the first chapter.
Ummmm:
1 – Reaching Max level works here the same it did in GW1. Play the “quests” explore the maps and in no time at all you are max level.
2 – I too am getting sick of temp things and nothing more than “more achievement complete lists”. Where’s the fun guys? As for exploration, the problem is any new map would be fully explored in a matter of a few hours at most and after that there is no reason to go back unless it is a fun area with fun events or other things to do such as fun forms of farming. You only need to look at 99% of the other maps to tell you this.
3 – Expansions will come when/if they are ready/needed.
4 – Further additions to the Personal Story would be what the expansions are all about imo. If not, newer storylines whose threats could be even more so than the dragons.
5 – No they are not scared of big events. Look how big they recently made the Teq fight. That with these living stories and how they work I would say if anything they might be working on things that may be too big. Perhaps they should make things more on a smaller scale, you know step by step? Do you really think that the design of the tower, the way it all works was a small project? In a way it is a totally different map all to itself just like Southcove is if you think about it.

In that case:
Your Ele picture likes like she is going to cast something with ice. The staff ele ice/water spells are meh, skill 2 especially – spam, spam, spam.
Warrior, close up of a face with scars and 2 weps in the background, that could be anything…..
Guardian, no comment…
Engi, an awful mask where as someone who mains an engi I wouldn’t be caught dead in! Picture also gives no ideas about how the class plays/works.
Ranger, no, just no, looks more like he is swatting flies with some weak attack.
Necro, again, no lol…
Thief, okay this one you might have pretty close because even tho some people here feel P/P is weak it is still has the coolest looking skills in the game. It also brings back very fond memories of The Matrix, and that can never be a bad thing. Actually, why not just use a pic of Neo running duel pistol, blam, blam, blam lol?
Mesmer, yeah – no. That could be any class with a sword. I find it funny you choose a female with a sword however. Is this meant to say that mesmers are a feminine class?
Most of your “arguments” are irrelevant and unconstructive. I think you felt attacked by me in my previous post – I meant no harm I assure you
Btw. Morrigan is casting Chain Linghting spell, video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5St9phiHHE
Not at all, I just don’t think that your choices for most of the pictures either represent the classes correctly or showcases their best talents, but meh your opinions I guess. Have you played all classes?

@Paul
It’s interesting all the methods of farming there are in this game, and I do plan on bringing guides and help to those new to the game or just making new characters
I totally understand that’s why I added my info as well because I too like to let others know of things that we can do in game that they may not be aware of. So feel free to add my info to any of your guides anywhere.
Every account gets 5 char slots so feel free to make 5 chars with 1 from each race. Try them all and THEN decide what you like from that.
Ranger is wrong, he should be using a longbow
Sorry, but I am against wrongbows with bears, nothing personal though!
Bears? Bears are only good for 2 things:
1 – Tanking at low lvls.
2 – Removing conds.
A good High lvl ranger will use any pet other than a bear with the right traits. :P
As for longbows, they are still good and powerful weapons, if you have a problem with players knocking back mobs why not just ask them not to? Is it really THAT hard to do?
Logan is fine, Trahearne is fine, Scarlet is fine, but……..
Sephiroth beats all FOREVER, he CAN’T be beat. Nuff said….
I have a better guide:
1 – Have a friend who is level whatever and up to the level 76 personal story,
2 – Have that friend choose “The Ossuary” quest.
3 – Run through this story killing the 3 easy champs (with the help of a small group of npcs).4 – After killing the 3 champs, leave the instance and repeat.
Benefits:
1 – NO way point costs what-so-ever to reach any of the champs besides the intial ONE waypoint to get to the quest start area.
2 – The champ bags are ALWAYS gilded.
3 – There is NO spawn times since it is an instance.
4 – All 3 champs take 8-10 mins max.
5 – This can be soloed.
6 – You also get tons of Moldy bags with the champ boxes.Enjoy.
EDIT: btw ty very much OP for making your guide! Sorry I kind of high-jacked it tho, but thank you still none the less.
Haha, wow, it’s fine. I never knew about that one, and geez.. I’d be a little scared to advise this to anyone to be honest, as it could be seen as exploitation >.< But still, sounds crazy amazing.
I think it’s a fun guide. My buddy and I just did it with a 63 warr and a 30 guard. We died (ok, I died) once, but that’s because of the knockdown/pile-on from the extra troll mobs. Thanks for posting this!
It was our pleasure making it, and I just love helping the community. Lol, those knockdowns can be pretty dangerous, I almost burst out laughing within the first thirty seconds when my warrior got caught in one of the cave troll’s AoE(watch the first 30 seconds of gameplay) and was knocked down. I was like “Really? I’m about to make this guide and warning people about not getting knocked down, and my warrior gets knocked down”, it was priceless, but I managed to contain myself XD
Once upon a time (about a year ago) I discovered farming BLTC chests via the lvl 10 quest and thought it could be classed as an exploitation. So I sent a ticket to Anet to ask them if so, they replied no which I still have the reply of. I would think this is a similar situation.
It’s not that much better than the current farming champ method but it is atleast soloable at a decent difficulty as well timeframe. Also some while ago the very first abomination that you killed which was weak and did not fight back would also drop a champ box. Anet quickly fixed that so it does not anymore so I am sure they are aware that people are or could farm this how I described.
This game actually needs mini raid type situations like this which can be fun, rewarding and something to do now and then for a quick pace of the game.
If I am wrong and this could be considered an exploit feel free to set me straight Anet.
I didn’t bother to send in a ticket this time because I don’t see it as an exploit. There is risk involved, those roaming Abominations can easily wipe your party.
Lastly I don’t farm this anymore simply because I see farming BLTC keys as far more profitable, but of course that is RNG and lucked based. :P

The problem isn’t any particular activity or means of making gold. The problem is rewarding rote repetition.
Each champion should only give a bag the first time it is killed per day. That’s how a lot of other things work, and it makes a lot of sense.
I agree with this or make it so champ bags only give mats of the tier per tier of the map. That is, Queensdale will only give Tiny rare mats etc. Of course there will always be lvl 80 equipment drops but I think for the mats this needs to be changed.
I’ve grown tired of the concept art background in the character select. Acctualy it’s realy turning me off. I would like to see a character select like in Guild Wars 1.
For example, when choosing your character in Guild Wars Eye of the north you where hit by a beautiful background with your character standing on a mountain in a snowstorm with this epic eye of the north theme song.
You could also turn the camera in other directions than just spinning your character around. Also, it would be great if we could see our characters backpacks. They are just as much a part of the characters appearance as the helm.
Here’s an example of GW1 eotn LOGGIN
Don’t forget seeing our weapons too!
For warrior I have noticed that their heals are a lot worse than other classes, this is probably to offset the extra armour they get. So in the end I think it all balances out.
I would completely disagree.
I mean the amount of hp healed not the amount of healing options.
On my alts for example all practically heal 2 3rds of their HP back with their main heal if not more. The Warrior seems to be 1 3rd hp if that.
For warrior I have noticed that their heals are a lot worse than other classes, this is probably to offset the extra armour they get. So in the end I think it all balances out.
I agree that the reward should scale depending on population. If I solo a champ, I should get the reward for such.
Likewise if a zerg kills a champ, they should be rewarded as such.
I don’t think this would hurt anyone but zerg players. Infact, it would work to spread the players out, which would be nice for people who play other zones.
The problem with this idea is you will start to see people trying to “claim” certain champs/places saying things like " move on noob this is my mob get your own!"
This is what Anet does not want.
Now maybe if we could only get one champ box per champ per day each or something now that could work to move people around……
Wait, wait, wait and wait. I know it’s annoying but really, besides that annoying missing 1% complete in the corner of your map screen there is no real rush for complete unless you have your precursor and everything else that you need to make a legendary.
I demand nothing but snowball fights for the WHOLE event!
the report only shows box game sales declining
q1 2013 – 36,382
q2 2013 – 28,899
q3 2013 – 24,481the report does not say how the gem store sales are doing.
This exactly.
Even if they sold ZERO copies of the game, it would not mean that ANET are in trouble and that the world was ending…..
Is there any reason why my guesting servers changed from Desolation and Blackgate to Abbadon’s mouth and Baruch Bay? They are not even english speaking servers…
Someone else been on your account without you realising?
It’s a trick, those white circle things are actually portals and you have to select the correct one to go through every time. Try again.
To me, it was more like that really old game Azure Blue.
Did you mean Azure Dreams?! That was an amazing game!!!
Hahaha I just managed to buy this game a month ago and am loving it all over again now and then.
“so I can’t see how it would be bugged for anyone.”
Wait, it didn’t bug you YOU, so you can’t see how it would be bugged for anyone?
In general no. I’m sure if others were bugged there would be a ton of posts about it by now.
Is it bugged for you or are you just trolling?
EDIT: I just checked the bugs forum and there are another 2 people who claimed to be bugged by this so it is possible of course. If so MY bad for not checking the bugs forum in the first place, where this probably should have been.
(edited by Paulytnz.7619)
That axe skin looks perfect for my necro, to buy or not to buy, hmmmm choices, choices.
Just did it solo a second time, no deaths, got my mini so I can’t see how it would be bugged for anyone.
Age has nothing to do with it, maturity is another matter tho and I wont comment on that. :P
Not sure about having to do it a second time to complete the achievement but I did it solo and 1 of the npcs did die but was ressed by the other npc and I did not get the achievement, so I guess that COULD mean that the npcs count as party members.
Gotta love all the replies from people who didn’t bother to read the dev comments…
but… I agree, this was really faulty logic on your part Anet.
Oh I read it, but you know it wouldn’t be the first time where I have seen even Devs getting things wrong in games before.
I understand the OP’s point. It wouldn’t hurt to give out a level 80 stone for map completion at the higher zones. This would help ‘entice’ players to buy more of the stones.
The lesser stones they are giving out are a joke at level 80. Pure trash.
They used to give them for map completes as well as in the BLTC chests. They never seem to pop for map completes anymore, not sure about the chests either.
I had some 20 lvl 80 stones from my 1st 2 chars when doing 100% map complete. After that no more of my alts have had any and I have 7 with 100% complete now and my last char halfway there.
Not sure about having to do it a second time to complete the achievement but I did it solo and 1 of the npcs did die but was ressed by the other npc and I did not get the achievement, so I guess that COULD mean that the npcs count as party members.
Now that one massive complaint since the release of the game has been recitfied, what next shall we complain about?
I know, I know! Not having enough things to complain about, how rude!
Ah I see, with my timezone I’m usually 12+ hours behind in updates, yet since this one was slightly late I guess I was here for it. :P
I wasn’t complaining exactly, though it does suck. I spent 130 dollars on tools because I play 4-5 different characters regularly and I’d have totally just banked them.
Bright side, my new alts won’t need tools so yay.
I feel for you. Perhaps they could offer a free trade for future skins so you ATLEAST get to have different looking ones for each char. That would seem fair to me….
I’m not seeing the new weapon skins in the gem store yet nor the new finisher. Anyone have access to them yet?
Have they mentioned any kind of perks or reimbursement for those of us that bought a set of tools for each character BECAUSE they were soulbound?
Ummm we get to upgrade them for FREE, what more do you want? Oh you mean you would have only bought the one set? Well, errr I guess not……but atleast for some chars you don’t have to always hit a bank to get them you can just log in and play from anywhere to have unlimited tools.
Flying mounts will never happen simply because the way the world and zones are created the truth of the matter is the height of the maps is VERY limited. I mean if you played Perfectworld you would know what I mean because this game has something like 10% of the height you can get there!
No flying mounts was a design decision. Exploration wouldn’t work with it. For a start, what would be the point of vistas if I can just fly unto them?
To me the point of vistas is to take in the view each one has to offer and show off the hardwork that Anet put into making them. I do not consider them mini JP’s although I understand some people might do….
And how much more is it going to cost me…. to make them account bound instead?
Since it did not state a price I was hoping for nothing … but we’ll see ^^
200 gems more since they now cost 1k gems instead of 800.
EDIT: From what I gather its FREE to upgrade any that exist in game already.
Yes thank you, thank you. Although I have already bought all available so far and planned to buy all that come in future (since I have 8 chars), having them account bound makes it that much easier to sort them to my chars that suit each best.
So thanks again.
As for sylvari and the wolves, are you serious? Those bags of sticks are light as paper, those wolves could carry them.
Light as paper!? Have you ever tried to pick up a man-sized wood sculpture? They get heavy as crap! Not to mention all of my heavy armor. I don’t think those wolves could carry the armor alone, plus my feet would just drag on the floor on account the wolves aren’t very tall. It’d be like riding one of those mini-bikes
I think you underestimate the strength of animals especially wolves in particular. As for your armour, ummm why not use the Culture leafy armour? Sure it might look weird but I’m sure it is a lot lighter! No I have not tried to pick up a wooden sculpture (who would?), besides there is a difference between the weight of a solid object such as that (as well as the mass of it I’m sure) compared to a human-like creature whose bones only would be made of wood. The rest of it would be similar to us, skin, blood and organs etc I should imagine.
After having said ALL of that, if the wolf is still not good enough for you, please, please, please provide for us all an alternative.
See, I don’t need a final boss…which is my point. I could care less about a final boss. It’s what makes it more of a game and less of a world to me. That’s why I like zones like Hirathi and Straits of Devastation better than other zones. Because it’s less about a big boss and more about an ongoing war.
But other people do and you should acknowledge it. Does Anet want to lose those people or will it give them a proverbial carrot?
I for one like some of the temple events but only under one condition – at most five participating players. Wish they would just swap temple priests with arah priests, that would mean more fun for zergs and for dungeons crawlers!
That’s an interesting comment…that I should acknowledge it. I’ve lost count of how many times that I’ve said that the game I want and my point of view probably doesn’t represent the majority.
However, I do believe that most people thinking dungeon runners and raiders and people who want end game are a huge majority…and that I don’t think is the case.
It is my belief there are more people who solo these games and want unstructured solo content, than there are people who want challenging group content. I can’t prove it, but it’s what I believe.
There’s no real evidence for either side at the moment, but WoW is the single most successful MMO in existence and pretty much every MMO that comes out apart from GW2 has raids. So there must be a substantial demand for them.
Yes I know most WoW players don’t raid, but it’s an iconic feature of the game.
Also, wouldn’t having a MMO based mostly in solo content defeat the purpose of it being a MMO? The 2 Ms ate what makes ESO different from Skyrim.
Okay so WoW has raids and WoW is successful. Baseball stadiums have hot dogs, but hot dogs aren’t why people go to the ball park. The fact is, before you can get to raids in WoW you have to do a whole lot of other stuff and people who do that often don’t go any further.
But there’s another bit of information here that can also mislead. How popular WoW is is completely irrelevant to traditional end game. First, WoW came out at a time when there was almost no competition. They were piggybacking off the mad success of an RTS with the same name. The company had a ton of money to advertise their product that didn’t come from that product.
So it’s popularity is partly based on timing, and partly based on the deepness of its pockets as well as what actually is in the game.
I think it’s a mistake to look at WoW as a winning game combination based on any single factor of it. If I had to guess, I’d say timing was the biggest factor of WoW’s success. Certainly the MMO field when it came out wasn’t rife with competition and there were absolutely no free MMOs.
Have to disagree with you here sorry Vayne. Search for something called “Runescape”, been out 12+ years and there has ALWAYS been a FREE version available. It is a very successful game as well with MILLIONS of players and over 100+ servers which is what we would call worlds here….
Flying mounts will never happen simply because the way the world and zones are created the truth of the matter is the height of the maps is VERY limited. I mean if you played Perfectworld you would know what I mean because this game has something like 10% of the height you can get there!
Are you sure this one isn’t the other way around?
In my (admittedly limited) experience it’s relatively easy for developers to adjust the dimensions of a map when they’re first making it. It seems more likely to me that they decided there wouldn’t be flying mounts and therefore they wouldn’t need lots of empty space above the map, so they set the ceiling just high enough that you can jump at the top of the tallest places and not hit it.
Keeping the map small helps to reduce loading times. All that space would still have to be modelled, even if it wasn’t being used.
(And on a somewhat unrelated note it’s really annoying that many people who make custom Sims 3 maps don’t realise that – they use the biggest map available, build a tiny town in the middle of it and then it runs far slower than it should because the computer is still loading and running all the empty space around it.)
Well I’m not sure how simple it would be to adjust the height of the map or if they would even bother. But even still, the way the world is pieced together zone by zone and not a totally true open world gives me an idea it would not be to their liking.
Right now we change zones via either way porting or going through portals. Imagine if we could all of a sudden fly over those mountains that anet uses as superficial borders of the map. That would be a nightmare I would imagine to have to create each map to realize we are leaving that map at any part of the edge of it and are entering the next map and even then which map we are entering into.
As for sims 3…, dunno why you brought that up lol, but I do own it and all I can say is, I play my own maps and don’t download other people’s crap (well besides the actual ghost busters car and such cool things but like that, but still!).
As for the race specific mounts I have thought on that before as well and came to these ideas:
Human – Moa’s
Norn – Dolyaks
Charr – a Charr bike! (like a mini version of their tank)
Asura – I can’t remember what I had here, maybe a golem or something…
Sylvari – Wolves (their wolves like the ranger class gets)Human — Moas = laaaaame
Norn — Dolyak’s make sense
Charr — I would allow a Charr vehicle
Asura — golems are slower than anything lol
Sylvari — those wolves could never hold up a Sylvari, would just look weird.
I agree Moas are lame but Anet seems to have a soft spot for them for some reason, I mean they are still here like they were in GW1. Maybe it’s kinda just their version of FF’s Chocobos. They are also the only thing that comes close to being rid that I can see in any of the human lands, unless you count centaurs and that’s just wrong, plain wrong good sir! :P
As for sylvari and the wolves, are you serious? Those bags of sticks are light as paper, those wolves could carry them.
I really can’t recall what I had thought up for Asura, was a few months ago I actually thought about this lol. Perhaps some kind of small flying contraption could work lol?
