I love guild wars and ill probably always be playing it but the engineer from wildstar has piqued my interest. If anet can’t come up with new kits soon I might go and try other engineers for a while.
Its true that condition builds beat power builds but that’s beside the point. Our kits do not fully take advantage of power stats, especially in mid/long ranges.
I like the armed and dangerous idea, it gives a worthy gm trait to tool traitline while making gadgets more useful and we would get to see more mines around.
It has come to my attention that a power engineers mid to long range options are limited. Rifle is close range with a mid range auto, grenades have a good distance but 4/5 of the skills are made for adding conditions. Bomb kit and wrench are close range. I feel that for power engineers we are mostly stuck to close range combat. Devs, I hope that when a new kit comes out it can fill this void in the engineers utility, thanks

Warriors right now have the same disengaging power as d/d eles pre nerf, but with like triple hp and armor. Considering that, I don’t see how warriors will escape the nerf hammer
Speaking of backdraft did they ever give a reason as to why it was changed?
Also I think its time #5 gets changed to something useful.
Broken armor sounds too harsh, though I would love the death penalty from gw1 applied to rally for about a minute after getting up but with something lik -15% hp/speed reduction per down.
This games turrets are so far off the mark from what someone expects turrets to do that its not even funny. I have all these reasons in my head that explains why they are so horrible but its hard to get a point for where to begin. The best I can say is that fights in gw2 are fast and filled with stealths/invulnerabilities/aoes and more that just make taking stationary weps that shoot for 400 every two seconds obslete. Turrets seem to have been made for much slower gameplay than this. Also, rocket turret used to be nice right up until they removed the burning from its normal attacks, now its just another pile of squishy junk on a very long cooldown. Anet has been trying to buff turrets to make them viable for months now, but the nerfs to the good functioning turrets like that instantly destroy a years worth of buffs.
But anyways to put some life into turrets, what I really would like to see are upgradeable turrets, smacking them long enough with the wrench should upgrade them with more health, damage, radius increase, etc (while removing the 5-min timer or at least refresh it) so that they can actually defend areas, keep up with this games speed, and do whatever turrets are expected to do.

If you had posted this a year ago I would have agreed with you, but engineers have come a long way since then. True some things such as turrets and flamethrower still suck and probably always will but if you ignore those almost everything else is in a relatively good spot.
I’d say the medium professions are mostly “versatility” fighters.
The final question one should ask is not “what can they do?” but “What role should they fill?”. Personally, if i met a 15 man group with a few condi kit engis and spirit rangers. I’d run for it. Because that group would dump more conditions on you then a zerg full of necros.
I agree on the versatility part, we can fight any role nicely and sometimes we can do everything decently at once. Also wanted to chime in a bit on the second part, as part of a guild that frequently runs without 10 engies at once in wvw, its not the conditions that you should be afraid of, its the multiple healing turrets and heal bombs that keep everybody healthy and very hard to kill on even numbers
I can probably help in game, if you happen to be in fa we can even get you into wvw in a group to make it easier
There’s also no evidence to support that norns were bear shifting people but that doesn’t stop them from doing it :P
T
Make them better, and make them shut up in combat.
I hate when they keep spouting “Fire!” “Water!” ’n stuff…
Until I was in the same room as a friend, doing dungeons together, I never realised quite how vocal elementalists are. Every few seconds I hear from their speakers “Spark to flame!”, “Earth!” or maybe a generic boon one like “There’s the power!”, all of it from me.
I barely notice what my own character says most of the time, but they’re definitely very chattery when played by other people. An option to turn down all players’ chatter might be useful sometimes.
In other words we have found the root of eles problem, luckily we can solve it in one step. Silence all eles! Trust me, you’ll never hear them complain ever again.
Lucky you! Someday…anet will remember I exist
Is this for pve only or wvw too?
Ah Evon, always looking after Lion’s Arch. As is expected from a Hero like him.
That sounds more accurate.
No, no. I double checked, that’s as accurate as it can get.
If you want to play with a hybrid build then I don’t see a reason why you shouldn’t. Tho if you are trying to maximize in pve berserkers is usually the way to go.
At a glance I would say something like hgh pistols. Stacks of might can make any build viable. Take hgh, cleansing forumla and fast acting elixirs and in firearms pick up pistol related traits. Elixirs h and b and a kit, personally I prefer tool kit, and a third utility of choice. Maybe a flame turret to help protect points with smokescreens and cause high damage thanks to might stacked burns. You should have good offense and defense but it would vary depending on your amulet. I would start with celestial and go from there.

I always thought rifle was a hybrid weapon, why else would its traits be on the pres/condition dmg traitline? At least with bleeds it gets some benefit out of that line
rifle a hybrid weapon. you’re adorable. it’s in the precision/condition traitline for the same reason 2 handed weapon cooldowns are in the healing power and vitality traitline for guardians.
aka, no reason at all other than thats where anet wants them.
When I said its a hybrid weapon I don’t mean that you are supposed to put 50/50 on power and condition damage evenly, it ends up more like 85/15 when specced into firearms, since you would want to anyways to grab the rifle traits. The minor traits give chances to bleed on crit and if they got any bleeds on them, you get a power damage increase. Using blunderbuss also ends up giving you the damage bonus when specced into it. If it was something else like 3 stacks of vulnerability per shot blunderbuss would actually be losing dps/ getting nerfed, though yes I am assuming everyone specs fully into firearms when using rifle

Its probably because fireforged trigger already reduces the cd on egun, they didn’t want another skills to further reduce cd on it.
Giving it a 1 second cooldown per enemy seems fair imo as they won’t punish those quick multi attacks as hard but if a good number of people have ret on it would still hurt people who would otherwise spam aoe all over. Multi strike attacks already suffer from generally low damage, such as that sith lighting eles have, they don’t need more factors to hinder them.

“Charr need no hobosacks!”
Anet did give you lighter armor to rp all you want. Its called town clothes.
The problem is that friendly npcs cannot win without the help from players at all. It would help the world feel like it was alive if they at least had a chance to win (Like 25% of the time).
I am laughing so hard at that screen, Is this the start….of hundred mine builds? :O
Though that build should just be called a minefield build..sounds better
(edited by Penguin.5197)
I think it could be similar to when LoL releases new characters, they purposely release them slightly underpowered so that they wont rapidly change the meta/cause imbalance issues. Here anet is playing it safe with long cds and will lower them in the future if necessary
If necros are barely running enough power to overcome this trait now have eles considered using weakness to negate whatever power they might have?
There are some traitlines that are hard to fully invest in, as they contain strong grandmaster traits (grenadier for example) but have weak build neutral traits (auto bomb dispenser), thus making it hard to invest in unless going for the non-neutral grandmaster traits. In order to help with build diversity, here are my suggestions for you devs to help open up builds to more trailines:
Autodefense bomb dispenser: Defensively, we have lots of adept traits much better than this skill on a much lower cooldown. When I see this trait, I would much rather take one of those others said adept traits instead of this and I am sure others can agree on that too. Solution: Keep everything the same but replace smoke bomb with big ol bomb. B.O.B fits in any build used and gives a reason for any non grenade build to fully invest in explosions.
Modified ammo: I see the balance team has been trying to open up the firearms traitline for more builds by making this trait work with all weapons. Its not a bad start, however this trait isn’t there yet. On power builds, youll probably have on average around three conditions at a time, something like some bleeds, a stack of vulnerability, and something else so a 6% damage increase is meh, unless you are tagging along with a codition user then it becomes…passable . On condition builds, where you can get the most damage bonus out of this, this skill is still wasted , as the 12% of your hilariously low power damage is still zilch. Probably the only stats that can make some use out of this are rampagers, but what if we can actually make this trait work on more builds? I say it can be done with a small change. Change the bonus damage from 2% bonus to +40 power bonus per condition. This will make a much more notable difference on condi builds while keeping power builds arond the same. (As a side note rune of the engineer might be more viable if the 6th bonus goes from +5% damage to a set +100 power kind of like rune of krait)
P.S. How is ammo modified on a wrench?
Tools traitline: I always thought that this traitline was a little off. Both grandmaster traits are defnsive and have nothing to with our tool belt or kits.I would lower adrenal implant to master and create a new gm thats based on toolbelt or works with all kits. Or option 2 is to move kit refinement up to gm and bring back its icd to ten seconds.
Imo diamond skin is fine. Lately I have seen a lot of complaining about dire stats and stats similar to it in that they allow you to still do loads of damage while being bulky, whch is true compared to power based bulk armor. So in response, condtions get more hard counters, yes you can still run around melting people but if you meet a diamond skin eele or ar engie then you have met your match. Now those condi users will have to think about using rampagers stats or a similar prefix if they want a chance against such users (stats and builds that would never have become viable otherwise), but then would give other classes a fighting chance at condi users. Its a fair choice.
Although more than likely we would be getting hammers or maces as our next weapon, I would prefer greatswords. I would love my gs chainsaw on my engie
Im doing 6-18 damage in a level 3 area and my pet is doing 120+
WHY NERF THE SHORT BOW?
your pet is doing like what? 10-20x your damage. You have to admit thats a little too much compared to your attacks. Anet pets op please nerf pet damage next thank you
I was attacking at a level 2 grub in the starting area. Half that damage my pet is doing is supposed to be on my short bow. 120+ damage from my pet is normal on that enemy.
I know I’m just messing with anet. Hopefully they don’t take it seriously lol
The thing is that it does feel like they have been trying to get turrets to become viable everytime a new patch comes out. Remember when rifled turret auto attack was like 200 damage or when thumper turret did three damage every five seconds? Well turrets are now at least way better than they were at the beginning of the game. The problem is that even tho they get some nice buff, they also get changed in ways no one asked for. No one asked for a five minute timer on them, or to remove the condition damage on rifle turret and rocket turret. The burning on rocket turret was one of my favorite reasons to take it, was at least helpful in putting pressure on stealth classes, but now its stupidly useless imo. And apart from that, theres a 90% chance these changes will brings bugs to the turrets. Loads of them. Even gamebreaking ones that went for weeks without being fixed. That month when all turret traits were useless was painful.
But anyways if there is a plan for turrets, Im hoping its to stop focusing on changing how turrets function, and start focusing on all their bugs.

What about just going full kits on engineer? You’ll have to think about what kits to use and when, and also think about how your fields and blasts finishers fit within each other
(edited by Penguin.5197)
There are armors out there that can counter dire/rabidarmors but no one ever uses them cause zerker is l33t. I can’t remember the last time someone other than me used magi or valkyries armor.
Its a placeholder until the gatlin gun elite kit comes out
My body is ready
After checking carefully of all the traits, I can safely say that the ONLY trait I never used, or ever intend to use, is Acidic Elixirs.
There are other traits that are slightly more lackluster than the most, but sometimes out of reasons such as just for fun, or when you simply had no better choice, you may still pick them up.
Acidic Elixirs however, I fail to see any usefulness out of it.
The damage sucks, and only remove 1 boon, which is something hard for you to control if enemy has multiple boons up. If I really want to have boon-ripping ability, what reason should I use this over just taking Throw Mine/Mine Field?
Also, in the first place what thrown elixir would you even sacrifice for this pitiful trait?
I dont think that trait was intended to be used offensively, I figured its just a bonus for using your elixirs in combat. Like tossing elixir b while fighting since your boons ran out. So you drop it on yourself for the boons and it just so happens to hurt enemies near you as a bonus
I submitted a roster for our guild friday night, (Thought two more for extra people who were added late), should we have gotten something by now or is it just taking a while?
The ones I never use. (Tho I did give every trait a chance at least once)
Always Prepared To what? die? The 50% damage bonus is wasted on auto attack and you never get to use booby trap anyways. Might be more useful if it at least cut the cd on down stuff by 20% to at least be able to use #3
Speedy Gadgets Not enough decent gadgets to go with it. Effect a little on lame side.
kit refinement So sad now.
Autodefense bomb dispenser : Its situational in the sense that in only works against melee. I would rather have a grandmaster trait that works against both melee and ranged, otherwise it just feels…bad as a grandmaster trait. Makes a decent master trait tho
Blunderbuss. Updated the ranges on this skill so that it is at 100% effectivness with anyone in melee range. Increased range 200 units when using the trait.
from the dec 10 patch preview. range only increases when traited. nobody traits for increased range so w/e
I’m sure the first sentence is even if untraited, but the +200 is a bonus from traited.
And I use the trait
On the bright side, the range on blunderbuss is finally going up so it might finally feel more like a medium ranged weapon rather than this awkward super-close-range/long range weapon we have now.
I would love to have a signet like this:
Signet of Speed:
Passive: Grants 25% increase in movement speed.
Active: Teleports you in the direction you are moving. When standing still, you teleport backwards. Also breaks Stun.
35 sec CD. Range 900.
A few times this week I have encountered bunker mes roamers who are simply unkillable. They run around people, blink and stealth and make clones continuously, and when low on heath, simply stealth and run away. Although slow, mesmers already have a huge amount of misdirection and givng them easy access to speed is an overkill.
And to the op, guardians were both slow and lacked access to stealth, one of them had to change.
There’s no way to put “buy” or “bribe” or “stacked” into “Fort Aspenwood” and make it sound nice though.
Fort BuyWood just doesn’t have that ring to it ’know what I mean
What about Buy Aspenwood? Or Fort stackedwood?
I’ve never had issues with pop ups in-game being slow to open. Could this be the software managing the popup being slow to respond?
Are you on Mac or Windows?
Do you have a web browser open while in game? (I’ve seen some plugins hamper FPS, for example those used my youtube)
Have you recently installed the OS recommended updates? (windows/System Updates)
//Portable Corpse
On windows, no I dont have browsers open when this happen but yeah I have auto update on
Edit: though it is weird that I am currently checking my whisper and it seems to work..for now
(edited by Penguin.5197)
Tossing only gives one but consuming gives 2. Its intended to be like that
I’ve had this problem for months now, where if I right click one someones name for whisper, the whisper tab will not open until like, ten minutes later. I figured it was a problem on server side, but after about a month of taking a break, I came back and still had it. I am not sure on what to do and I really need my whisper chat a lot :/ Though it does work if someone sends me a whisper first.
I was able to get a precursor from the queen karka chest…the bard. That thing fell as low as 10g during that time I was facepalming myself asking why wasn’t it something slightly better >.< I did wait like half a year to sell it at around 55g tho
