What is the process to cancel a pre-order?

I’ve changed my mind on HOT and want to cancel my pre-order. Is there a link somewhere that describes hot to do that?

Yeah, as others have already pointed out you didn’t pre-order it if you bought through the GW2 website. Instead you pre-purchased the game which means you’ve bought it before it’s released. Now, you’ve already had some of the benefits of pre-purchasing the game (including the right to participate in the beta-weekend last weekend) so convincing them to issue a refund might be difficult.

HoT : Introducing the Paladin

Is it just me or does the rev look like a carbon copy of a paladin?

Apart from the armour class I don’t see any resemblance. At all. Whatsoever.

The one i’m thinking about is the WoW paladin, that has a dps, a tank and a healing skill tree.

I see even less resemblance. I didn’t think that was possible.

Minimum Upbidding

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pifil.5193

Pifil.5193

I think the problem is that some people are treating the trading post like it’s an auction – thinking that you have to maintain the highest bid until the sale goes through or you won’t get your item.

That’s not how it works. You’re not placing competing bids for a single item, you’re offering to buy one or more of those items (usually one of tens, hundreds or thousands in circulation). If someone places a higher bid it doesn’t mean they’ve beaten you and you’ve lost out, it just means they’ve jumped to the front of the queue and you have to wait a bit longer.

Yes, this is the core of the issue here, people not understanding that it’s not an auction house it’s a trading post. They’re supposed to behave differently.

There is no problem to be fixed here: if I’m willing to pay 1s19c and you’re willing to pay 1s20c that’s not a problem. It doesn’t prevent me getting my order filled it just means your order will be filled first because you’re willing to pay more. That’s how it should work.

No tank, No healer, No trinity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pifil.5193

Pifil.5193

When I first heard that they were going to “throw out the trinity” I thought it would be by allowing every class to fulfil the different roles: support/healing, tank/anchor and DPS and implement those roles so that you’re not just hovering over the tank as a support/healer pressing 1 to cast your small healing skill and occasionally pressing 2 for you medium healing skill, instead the healing would come as a side effect of fighting. That’s what they said so I don’t think this is a massive reversal on anything they’ve said before.

So you could, for example, tank or heal on a thief. Obviously not all professions are as effective at all roles but it should be possible to fill those roles with your character. I think they kinda have a simple form of that in the way that we share boons and some traits definitely are designed for support or increasing “tankyness”.

What actually happened was that people quickly realised they didn’t need support/healing or tank/anchor characters and only DPS is required (with a certain amount of boon sharing). I hope they introduce a need for people playing those different roles again. Those who don’t like it can still DPS those who do like it will love a required role other than DPS.

They need to add extra 2 skills per legend and bring them up on par with rest. Old classes got 20 utility skills while rev has olny 13. Thats a serious problem which needs to be addressed. I cant see where they could place stunbreak on shiro – mobility skill? That will break his mobility as cost for stunbreak must be high to keep it in balance. Now going by gw1 skills – burst skills aka double damage and condi transfer? Life stealing? I dont think so.

I see your point and I agree that they need to make sure that the profession launches with the same number of skills as other professions. They need to offer more flexibility in skill choice to offer more utility and more interesting gameplay. We don’t want revenants to be restricted to using the exact same skills as every other revenant running the same legends.

I’m sure they’re aware of that need though, hopefully we’ll see something to address it in this upcoming beta.

This is what makes me wonder.

  • Each legend has a weapon that the legend specializes in.
  • Players can equip two legends and switch between them.
  • No weapon swap.

Not making my mind up yet, but those three facts make it seem like something is akilter.

I’m kinda surprised that they don’t have a weapon slot for each legend, so you would swap weapons when you swap legends. So you could use staff with one legend and hammer with another, for example. It would give you a bit of flexibility in weapon choice and I think it’d feed into the legend mechanic nicely.

If you’re only doing PvP and don’t mind resetting your account (your sPvP rank, most currencies, wardrobe and so on), then yeah, create a new one.

Precisely. They’re only worth what they’re worth because of supply and demand.

In my opinion they should be salvageable but without giving anything, just the rune / sigil with chance based on the salvage kit used, this would solve everything.

It wouldnt solve the problem of basically rendering the last sink for exotic runes useless.

I don’t think that WvW or karma armours were intended as an exotic rune sink (I mean, until the wardrobe patch they weren’t a sink at all).

The fact that they can’t be salvaged just makes those armours significantly less attractive to players and removes those armour types as a viable karma/badge of honour sink.

Free gold? Not really, WvW equipment comes without sigils or runes and costs either karma and badges of honour, or gold and badges of honour, none of that is “free”. (You earned your karma/badges of honour through play, it’s not OK that it’s useless to many people).

The exotics should be salvagable, either way, in order to let people get their runes/sigils back. I personally don’t care if salvaging them would give you back crafting materials or not.

Yeah, it’s really, really not that hard/time consuming. An hour or two will get you to all the world boss waypoints through the Asura gate network in Lion’s Arch.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect someone to have to put a little effort into unlocking the world map for a character if they want to be able to use that character for bosses/dungeons etc.

Actually it’s going to be more among the lines of:

“You guys know how every MMO we have ever played or even heard of refunds skill tree points when they make a major overhaul or sometimes even a small change to a skill within a tree?”

In guild wars 2 you can respec your traits and reorganise your skills for you build freely. So long as you’re out of combat. That’s the same as in other MMOs (but in the other ones I’ve played it’s never free).

In other games you tend to unlock new abilities as you level all the way to level cap, it’s the same with the Hero Points system, you earn points as you level and unlock new abilities with them but in the case of GW2 you can choose which new abilities you get at each level as you level. You don’t get Fireball at level 20 you get it when you decide you want it.

That’s what I’d tell my friends. You unlock abilities and use them as you level, without having access to everything. I think it’s a good way of learning what your profession can do.

Over a period of 2-3 years how much new plant growth do you really think you’ll see in soil that has been reclaimed from salt water where it was for 250 years and also corrupted by an elder dragon?

The corruption is beginning to be cleared by the ritual but I think that it’s reasonable to assume it’ll take centuries for Orr to recover. If the races of Tyria were actively attempt to reclaim the land there then the process could be accelerated and you could see results in a few decades but even given the will to do so there are dragons and undead that would hinder that process (I wouldn’t want to be the first to settle in an undead wasteland).

In GW3, maybe.

I don’t like this. I really hope to get more infos about this matter.

As it is now, it feels like they are “forcing” me to buy it right now. I’m playing GW2 since launch and I haven’t yet make my mind about HoT.

I’m the kind of guy who’d rather wait some actual infos about what I’m buying than blindly throw out money.

But if that means I’m missing out on a rightfully due character slot…

Before launch does not mean “right now”. Generally speaking you can pre-purchase or pre-order a game right up until a day or two before it launches to get the bonuses. If you like the sound of what’s in the expansion (and the feedback from the various betas) then you can pre-purchase then if you don’t then you won’t have lost anything.

I mean, I haven’t pre-purchased yet and I don’t intend to until I have more information on the contents of the expansion and the release date. I am in no rush to give them my money.

We can’t say for sure, all the info we have so far is about the pre-purchase offer, so after launch it may change, but probably you’ll also get a character slot if you buy HoT after its launch.

I don’t know, it seems quite clear that you have to prepurchase the expansion (as in buy it and apply the code to your account before launch). They may change their mind but I doubt it.

For all players who registered the core Guild Wars 2® game prior to January 23, 2015 and who upgrade their account by prepurchasing and registering any Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns edition before Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns‘ launch, we will add one additional character slot to your Guild Wars 2 account.

Hello all,

I was reading some threads and I’m kinda confused right now. I read that you can now get a character slot if you register/pre-purchase or something like that.

But what if I buy the expansion once it’s launched? Will I still get that character slot or do I need to prepurchase the game?

You need to pre-purchase the game to get the slot, and you only get the slot if you’ve been playing since before the expansion was announced (before January 23).

Thief Elite Spec

Pifil.5193

My guess is still that Thief gets Rifle. Druid is already getting staff, and I don’t think Anet would give multiple Elite Specializations the same new weapon this go around.

I would have agreed with you, until I saw the datamined images (possible thief elite spec image & ascended staff ([&AgFgEQEAAA==])) by that_shaman.

Now I am not so sure.

That is pretty compelling, though I have to note that if that’s concept art, they could be keeping it in their back pocket for a future release. That being said, either might actually inspire me to make a Thief.

I haven’t seen the ascended staff in game but the weapon in that picture could be a rifle (it seems to have a shoulder strap and you can’t see his right hand).

Also it seems that the person in that picture is being shot in the head (it looks like there’s “blood splatter” at the back of his head). Which would support the idea of thieves getting a (sniper) rifle spec?

Anyway, I’m not that bothered about the type of weapon so long as the traits and skills are interesting.

Don’t get me wrong, the new Lion’s Arch is nice, but it’s too clean; I miss gritty, pirate-built LA. Luckily, the game-world has the amazing, inexplicable Mist and players can access fragments of the past… Using this mechanic, it’s no a far leap to present the old Lion’s Arch as existing in a stabilized mist pocket and the pass as a certificate that declares us fit for travel. It’d operate like the Airship or Royal Terrace pass but take us to an instance of Old LA, complete with vendors and the rest.

You know, I wouldn’t buy the Airship or Royal Terrace passes but I would buy this.

No, it’s because part of pre-purchasing is getting access to the betas and possibly other in-game rewards. So you’ll have got something for your money straight away (or at least when the next beta event occurs).

More pale trees?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Pifil.5193

Pifil.5193

Yeah, I know this may be a bit lore breaking, but what if there were more pale trees? I was thinking, since Tyria hasn’t been in contact with cantha and elona for a while. They probably don’t know Tyria has a new race. So maybe they have their own sylvari’s?
Elona has a massive palm tree as their pale tree and the sylvari could look desert/tropical related.
Cantha could have a massive cherry blossom tree. And the sylvari are very flowery and bright and Asian influenced? I don’t know but I thought this could be a good idea.

There is at least one more Pale Tree. Create a character and play through “Where Life Goes.” I imagine that the fruit of any other Pale Tree than the one in the Grove will be under the full influence of Mordremoth. Those Sylvari in the Maguuma jungle that attacked the pact are probably from that other Pale Tree.

I can’t see how this is misleading? It’s quite clear. Pre-purchase the expansion, get the slot if you’re a veteran. It has nothing to do with “loyalty” and everything to do with giving people an incentive to pre-purchase.

If people are worried about content (I still am) they will be able to pre-purchase all the way up to shortly before launch (I probably will) and still get this offer. Either way, you don’t have to buy now, that said, you’re always taking a gamble on MMO expansions kitten much of the value is delivered after release.

Let’s assume it will be 3 in the end. Each with 3 biomes as A-Net said for a total size of 9 maps. 2 relatively big guild halls, 1 pvp map, 1 wvw map.
That makes a total 13 new maps. How does that sound to you?

I don’t think that 1 map with 3 biomes is the same as 3 maps. The canopy and root biomes are not the same size as the ground layer (as in there won’t be a canopy and root layer across the entire map).

However, I believe there’s a Mursaat city map too.

Still, that’s 3 actual “adventuring” maps. Like Orr but bigger. That doesn’t sound like a lot really but we’ll see.

Maybe, maybe… But I’m not talking just about map size. I’m talking about content as a whole. And if you compare GW2 to HoT I doubt they will have even close to the same amount of content. As you said – it will be a decent area, but not worth the same price as the core game.

Yeah, they haven’t addressed people’s questions or concerns over the amount of content in the expansion.

Direct questions go unanswered; for example, people have been asking about whether or not there are new dungeons or fractals, a simple yes no answer would do there but ArenaNet ignore the question. Surely something like the existence of new dungeons or fractals is not a secret, they’re either adding them or they’re not. So why not tell people? Because a “no” could mean that some of those people may just leave the game now, not answering means they will hang around and may see something else that will get them to buy.

We’re assured that HoT will lay the framework for future expansions but if HoT doesn’t deliver on the content then will there still be players around to justify future expansions? (Not to mention that ArenaNet have put frameworks in place in the past that they then abandon; Fractals were going to be this great system that was easy to add to and yet we have had very little in terms of actual additions to the Fractal system).

At this stage I beginning to feel like they’re stringing us along, trickling out information about systems being added but little to no information on the actual content that goes alongside it. That’s what will sell (or kill) this expansion.

No we didn’t. It’s an MMO so frequent updates are expected and included as part of the base product. They sold the game on the basis of their post-launch plans. No-one would buy an MMO that wasn’t planning on adding new content just like no-one would release an MMO that wasn’t planning on adding new content. That’s not how the market works.

ANET deliver new content every 2 week or so, with HOT you will simply get the core update + the hot update, that make it 2 free content update.

I personnally bough the ultimate pack, until now ANET delivered great content continuously

No they don’t and they haven’t done that for over a year. In the 15 or so months since LS1 ended we’ve had 8 LS2 episodes, 2 feature packs and some holiday events with long, long breaks between them. There has been no new content release in just over 5 months (no release at all since January 18th) and it’s unlikely there will be one between now and the expansion pack’s release (whenever that is). The update tomorrow is unlikely to bring new content. The systems they’re adding or changing tomorrow aren’t content: content is things you do in the game. For example, the camera changes were very, very welcome but you don’t “play” the camera.

If you’re happy to buy it then that’s fine, others aren’t and they should make their voices heard. Some of us are invested in this game, I’ve spent hundreds of euros on it so far, and I’m willing to buy the next expansion but I’d like to see ArenaNet address our concerns before I’m going to spend another cent.

If the people complaining here get ArenaNet to change the offer for the better then you’ll benefit too. If they add stuff to the packages you’ll get them for your ultimate package too.

I can’t get distracted with new patch content if I don’t play. And I urge everyone to stop playing. Just to see what happens.

Personally, I think they’re fools if they’re hoping it will all go away. These issues, all this discontent, is of their own making. They could regain a lot of good will if they address them head on and maybe they’re planning on doing just that, we’ll have to see but time is of the essence here.

All I can really do is speak for myself, of course, but I for one will not be buying anything until this issue is resolved and they start to share some real details about the expansion (in particular both the scale of the expansion and a release date). Now, I have no problem spending money on this game, I’ve easily spent more than a subscription fees worth on gems in the last two and a half or so years. Character slots, bag slots, outfits, skins, bank tabs, collection expanders, 12 or so permanent harvesting tools, copper and silver fed salvaging kits, plain old gold, I’ve bought gems for all of them. A lot of those I bought on a whim and I have no regrets on doing that but I won’t spend any more money until they start addressing our concerns.

That’s why I mentioned that it’s included before.
If they included it with HoT only you’d take it as a feature as well…they are simply giving you the chance to test it before.

IMO HoT can take credit for those things, because these are things that were designed FOR HoT and the OP should know that with the purchase of the expansion he supported these changes as well.

He can then decide for himself if he only wants to judge the price tag by the completely new content or by everything around it.

No. They’re going to be part of the base game. They’re not part of HoT in that you don’t need HoT to get access to them.

You can assume that they never would have been created if it wasn’t for HoT but that’s just an assumption.

For example, they’ve been talking about new sPvP modes since before launch so you could just as easily assume that this new sPvP mode would have been created even if they never decided to make an expansion. For all we know ArenaNet designed it long before they decided to create HoT.

Who knows, maybe ArenaNet will take their heads out of the sand and actually respond to this instead of silently watching. They’re probably still hoping it’ll all go away though.

$50 for content that will clearly keep many of us entertained for at least a few months, sounds like a bargain to me.

Thats your assumption only. There might be not that much of content. We don’t know the exact list of content.

This is correct, and from what I have seen, read and tested, I am convinced it will be worth the price for me. If you do not, don’t buy it. You say we don’t know the exact list of content, but I disagree. We might not know all the details of all the features yet, but we have been given a lot of info. If the info we have been given is not enough for you yet, then wait before purchasing. But it seems clear, to me at least, that the amount of content HoT will provide will keep most of us entertained for a decent amount of time.

On a point of pedantry here, you say that you disagree that we don’t know the exact list of content and then, in the very next sentence, you contradict yourself, saying that we don’t know all the details of all the features. If we knew the exact list of content then we’d know all the details of all the features.

I’d settle for some big ones. How many zones? How many story steps (how big is the story in HoT compared to the size of Season 2?)? What is this challenging group content? Any new dungeons/fractals and any changes to dungeon mechanics? What are the post release plans like?

The ultimate question, for me, is when will this arrive? It’s been, what, five months since they added any new playable content, they’re looking for pre-purchases and they don’t even have a release date yet. And no, a glib “when it’s ready” won’t cut it.

for the love of rngeez, get your fact right!

soooo many posts on here keep spreading this ‘1 map’ bs, were getting 1 region! a region consists usually of 4-7 maps and in the xpac 1 map = 3 biomes and 1 biome is equal to 1 current map. so if we get 4 maps thats 12 biomes so 4 HoT maps potentially = 12 current maps in size ( depending on size). please get your facts right before sprouting this only 1 map bs ty

I love the fact that you had to edit your “get your facts right” post because you got your facts wrong.

Anyway, the only actual “fact” here is that we’re getting more than one map. The rest of your post is full of assumptions.

1) the number of zones in a region (Orr has only 3, for example, and the maguuma wastes has only 2) and the assumption that all the zones will be there at launch.
2) the contention that 1 biome is equal to a current map. There will have to be huge pockets of empty space in the canopy layer of these maps (otherwise you wouldn’t be able to glide) and the roots layer will most likely be tunnels and caverns so the canopy and roots layers won’t be as “full” as the actual ground layer.

  • Explore new open world jungle maps.

Anyway, IMHO actual facts are far too scarce at this stage. Hell, we don’t even know if the expansion will release this year.

I mean seriously, there is zero incentive for a current player to pre purchase the base package.

Of all the words posted on this forum since this mess hit the fan these are amongst the truest. Why would anyone pre-purchase this expansion if they’re buying the base game? Sure people intending on buying the deluxe or ultimate package have reasons to do so but the base version of HoT is completely unattractive to existing players.

Well, apart from access to beta weekends* but, to be honest, with so many KickStarters and other companies trying to sell “early access” to their games I can’t be bothered spending my time testing code for them any more. I’m sure not going to pay them for the privilege. I can see how others might see that as enough of an incentive, though.

*I’m guessing there will be no other way to get access to the beta weekends from now on.

Query about personal bank guilds in HoT

Just dish out the 40gold for 20000 influence and get that done.

I recommend this route too. I did, I now have a massive personal guild bank. It’s a lot cheaper than buying bank tabs. Sure it can’t take bound items but it can take all the random stuff I want to keep (runes, sigils, consumables etc.).

But you know all that. Anyway, buy the influence, that way you can enjoy doing what you want without worrying about running out of time.

DONE! I’m gonna use the $50 towards Fallout 4.

Now why didn’t I think of that myself…? That is a really good idea.

Cuz It’s probably gonna be all hype and no delivery.

… and so will Fallout 4! Badum-tish!

Well, I won’t be pre-purchasing anything until there’s a release date. That said, I think that they missed a golden opportunity here. If it was me, I wouldn’t include a character slot at all in any of the editions. After all, some people already have a slot lined up for a revenant and others are maxed out on character slots. Instead what I’d do is include 800 gems in the standard edition (the cost of a character slot), 1,600 in the deluxe edition and 5,000 in the ultimate edition.

Then, I’d put character slots on sale at 50% off to celebrate the launch of pre-purchases and watch them roll in.
