I’ve been on:
Dragonbrand, Jade Quarry, Desolation (EU), Seafarer’s Rest (EU), Isle Of Janthir, Yak’s Bend, Ferguson’s Crossing, Kaineng, Crystal Desert and Darkhaven in that order.Things to note from the server’s I’ve been on:
Dragonbrand has a poor community and aren’t very good on the open field. They rely too heavily on their SEA blob.JQ are strong as players but have a lot of rude players.
I hated Desolation. Period.
Seafarer’s Rest had a lot of nice people and decent players. Mind you they were mostly a blob server.
IOJ was getting spawn camped every day when I was on it which was at the time it was having it’s exodus so anything I have to say about IOJ is pretty much irrelevant at this point.
YB was pretty nice when I was there which was before they got all the transfers. I only left because I hated Fort Aspenwood so much. YB had okay fighters but as many people say they tend to siege hump a lot. Just don’t be fooled by the exaggerations. They do use a lot of siege but it’s not as over the top as some of their haters will have you believe.
Ferguson’s Crossing had one of the best communities I’ve been a part of. Super nice people, very enjoyable to be around. Unfortunately it was also a heavily fair weather server. People only came out to fight when they felt like it which meant they were going to be perpetually stuck in a low tier.
Kaineng was fun for roaming. A lot of independent players on that server. Even when tags were up people would prefer to roam. The community was okay but a certain guild that I shall not name had a lot of toxic players.
Crystal Desert was horrible. The worst server I’ve been on hands down. I cannot say anything good about it at all. Bad players, terrible community, mostly immature teenagers. Don’t go there.
And DH which I’m on now is my new home, hopefully forever. I’ve never been more happy with a transfer and I don’t ever plan on leaving unless something serious happens. DH has an amazing community, fun, loving people with lots of great humor. Chat is always a blast to read and participate in. Great fighters, even PUGs can wipe full guilds with even numbers. Lots of dedicated roamers and dedicated guilds, great commander’s… It just has everything one could want. I’d almost say it’s a shame we’re not in a higher tier but at the same time I think we’re right where we belong. Where there are still challenges to be had and not tons of bandwagons. Still, if you want a great place to go, come to Darkhaven. I haven’t been on every server but I’ve been on enough of them to know that DH is by a long shot the best place to be.

Why? Why all the server swapping? If anything this shows the problems we have in WvW that people move about so much so to label a server is surely pointless as it can be a completely different place very quickly.
Oh and though I have been on (EU) UW from the start I have a love hate relationship with it. Sometimes UW is like herding cats, but then other times its like the loyalist dog. I guess its a bit bipolar.
Probably to keep from burning out on the game. I still have an account on AR which is my home server because I have a lot of friends there and it’s a good community but I have a second account that I move around to find fresh fights and keep the game interesting. Without that I would likely have quit the game by now.
Damaging on crit sigils like air or fire are causing rangers to be revealed when they proc on hunter’s shot. The sigils do not reveal thieves when they proc on cloak and dagger.
Your spawn has 3 exits, use a different one.
I’m sorry, you must have mistakenly written on the wrong topic. This is not “Are there other exits from spawn.” I mentioned that in the body already and yes anyone who plays WvW knows about them.
The topic here is increasing the range and effectiveness of the Legendary Defenders. And limiting or removing another servers ability to drop siege on the path from spawn to the keep. It would remove a nasty part of the game that adds absolutely nothing positive.
And what would that change? People would just spawn camp a little further back. Quit relying on npc’s to carry you, if you are so outnumbered that you can’t push out on 1 map, even with the help of razer, you have 3 other maps to choose from and each of them have 3 exits.

DH is a good server but you all are about to be stuck in a really crappy match up with DB and SF where you will be starved for fights. For those of us that have been playing for years, winning and losing doesn’t really mean much anymore, but certain servers go out of their way to avoid fighting and chest thump about capping empty towers which leads to incredibly boring matches. I wouldn’t want to be in your shoes.
If they end up on the lowest servers and much isn’t going on, will they become a paying customer?
Do you think they would be more likely to become a customer if they joined a T2 server where they are constantly being spawn camped and ticking for less than 100 ppt?
This idea would let them experience WvW across multiple tiers. They would have a different experience every time they logged in.
I admit I read past multiple worlds figuring they would always end up on the low servers. I guess it depends on how they were spread ensuring they don’t get the same server – maybe even a prompt for high or medium.
Either way, they have to choose a world up front anyway and I don’t see anet spending any time on changing that….
They could just include a free server transfer when they upgrade to a payed account. It would be another incentive to give anet money.

How hard is it to set up an old laptop next to your main computer and watch map chat and the commander tag while playing on your main computer?
Thy can also troll commanders and waste supply by throwing bali sites over the commanders ram sites when trying to take a structure
Spies can also sit on siege during an attack preventing you from using it for defense.
They can give false call outs in team chat like, “garri is just a tap”
It in no way prevents you from playing on your own server, many people own more than 1 computer.
They can siege lock an area with useless siege

Nope. Doesn’t affect heartseeker through a smoke field, even when the on crit sigil procs, doesn’t affect cloak and dagger either. This is only causing revealed on Hunter’s shot. Definitely a ranger bug.
Can you add sigil of air/fire causing revealed when they proc on Hunter’s Shot?

I’ve found having a way to clear 1 or 2 condi’s on a short cooldown a lot more beneficial than a complete condi clear on a high cooldown. You can basically shrug off several specs like burn guards, but if you do get bombed you still have SoR for a full clear.
Depending on the groups I’m fighting I will swap zephyr for BW, remorseless for LtW, or “Guard” for “Sick ’em”. The taunt and “sick ’em” are great if you keep running into groups of thieves or mesmers, and LtW is a lot more handy than remorseless if you are poking zergs.
If you haven’t already geared up you might want to avoid using fire and air on your longbow since it is buggy at the moment and will reveal you when trying to use hunter’s shot to stealth, maybe go with force and blood. Also Trooper runes are currently bugged so they won’t remove condi’s from your allies, but they will clear condi’s from you and your pet. Welcome to the wonderful world of the ranger where if they fix 1 bug in a patch they create 5 more.
I love when people bring the fights right to my spawn, beats the hell out of running around for 30 min watching people run into towers to avoid fighting.
I’m not sure as if Shortbow Zerk was ever a great option… I mean, it’s a condi weapon…
It was fantastic before they nerfed the hell out of it. It still works decently for 1v1’s but the more people you add to the fight the less effective it becomes.

Pick a server and level a free account in your spare time. I keep an account on SBI and AR, being able to switch back and forth helps keep me from completely burning out.

Yup I finally agree with you on something darksyze, 3 years later and people are still making stupid complaints.
Move on people, stability stomping, mist form stomping, port stomping, and elixer s stomping are all far superior to stealth stomping.

I’m surprised this thread isn’t getting more attention. This seems like the best solution proposed so far, plus if the free players find that they really enjoy WvW they will be encouraged to pay for the game so they can stay on one server and join a community.
This also has the added benefit of letting current WvW players that are thinking about moving create a free account so they can check out the other servers for free without constantly creating new accounts and leveling up to 60.
Ambients don’t stick you in combat any more I don’t think.
It puts you in combat for a second. So basically you can hit an ambient, swap weapons to trigger quickdraw and leap away.
Quick Draw only works in combat (like the million other ranger traits that only work in combat)
That’s why I said hit an ambient or use a ledge. I use those little tricks all the time to move around WvW a bit quicker. Only puts you in combat for a second but that’s plenty of time to swap to GS and swoop.
Let’s not take into account that teleport works over ledge etc.. just basic distance covered per sec.
Any other restrictions you’d like to add? Maybe warriors can’t use s/wh and GS, ele’s can’t use fgs, other classes can’t use swiftness, etc. ?
Rangers are quick, if you are good at using the about face with sword and get off a quickdraw swoop or 2 from ambients and ledges they are comparable with warriors but thieves are still the king of mobility.
Hunter’s shot problems with the stealth sometimes i dont’ say why ,i get out before the 3 sec , no barrage used.

This was fixed in the past but it looks like it was broken again. Please address this soon, it gets costly replacing air sigils every time you all feel like reusing old broken code.

This won’t prevent all trolling but it will make it extremely difficult to have targeted coordinated trolling like filling up an opponents queue’d map. Plus it gives free players a taste of WvW but if they want to join a community they will have to buy the game to pick a server.
I think they should remove the personal score all together. All it does is encourage new players to do stupid, selfish things like jumping on a point that is already being capped instead of working with the team to win the match.

I read somewhere sigil of air wont cast in mid-air. So after you land it casts and can reveal you. This is known by thieves.
I thought that was fixed awhile ago. Of course it’s very possible it came back, I think anet tends to copy paste old broken code, which would explain why certain bugs like cloak and dagger off walls, and being able to +5 the blue bl hills were fixed for about a month and then broken again in a new patch.
I actually really like that idea. Some people are kittens and will troll no matter what but this would prevent targeted attacks against servers. +1

We could have a beta weekend as late as oct 9 and that would still give them two weeks to act on the feedback.

They need to disable whispering too. There’s already enough gold sellers spamming everyone in the mists.

AR’s MM zerg last night was pretty hilarious.
I think dual bow is the worst possible combination of weapons. You won’t be able to fight on point and your damage is so low that people can pretty much ignore your ranged pressure.
But hey, it doesn’t cost anything to try it our for yourself, go give it a shot.

Ranger with traited “guard”, SotW, and dual bears or drakes. Swap pet when it gets low, use hunter’s shot to drop aggro if the lord focuses you.
I’ve found trapper rangers to be free bags now that traps aren’t ground targeted. Just don’t get locked down and avoid the spots where they squat down. Most aren’t running any stun breaks and have crappy or nothing for condi removal. They are very easy to cc and burst down.

It’s amazing if they are inexperienced players like you. That’s why everyone agrees it works well in low rank PvP but against people that have been playing this game for years you’ll be lucky to win 1v1, you won’t stand a chance Xv1.
Any power ranger will be able to use his pet to trigger traps or dodge roll through them, pbs you off point to decap or they can just kill you from range. Condi survival will shrug off your damage and melt you with their own condi’s.
Necro simply counters this, you’ll die to your own conditions.
Warrior can chain berserker stance and resistance, not to mention drop a condi every 5 seconds, to completely ignore your damage and they will chain cc you into the dirt.
Mesmer will trip your traps with a phantasm, cc and burst you down.
Even if a cele ele isn’t running diamond skin (which hard counters this) they can still out sustain you if played by a competent player. They’ll kite around outside of the traps, cleanse and heal up when they need to, and slowly kill you cc and burning.
Pretty much every guardian build has a way to clear a condi bomb. A burn guard can pump out the damage to kill you before EB will activate and they have active condi removal for dealing with your conditions.
A smart thief simply won’t engage you, they will +1 other fights and decap empty points.
Of course when you are new to the game you won’t see this because you are matched up against other new players and they will run straight into your traps over and over again.
I don’t give a kitten if you don’t like it but this build is very near tier 1, it just so happen that no team use it because they all want the basic 1engi 3ele 1thief.

I hate to break it to you but you aren’t some special snowflake that has discovered the greatest ranger build ever, it is just a variation of a very common build that works well in low rank pvp but fails against experienced players. RF cannot be dodged with 1-2 dodges, as it damages longer than the evasion time on 1 dodge.and if they halved the channel on volley like the op is asking for you would be able to dodge it as well……
The problem with rifle has nothing to do with it’s damage. It just doesn’t have some of the tools that help longbow rangers stay alive like the added range, the ranged knockback and the stealth. The problem is you can’t give that stuff to warriors because they have a lot more passive sustain than rangers and with fast hands they could kite you around all day and destroy you from range.
A lot more passive sustain..like what? Healing signet? Heal as one has 488hp/s.. I also use signet of the wild which is another 62hp/s regen.
Im not sure if war is even close to that. War cant get so much kiting potential on rifle like ranger, true. But that doesnt justify rifle to remain as totally useless weapon.
Higher base health, higher base toughness, adrenal health, traited endure pain, resistance, option for more healing through traited shouts or banners, etc.

Seeing how awesome staff daredevil looks has me worried that druid staff will be absolutely terrible just to make sure we are different. Can’t have 2 highly evasive, medium armored, melee staff wielders. Pretty sure ours will involve something stupid like rooting ourselves in place for 5 second channels to make plants grow.

You’ll almost always catch someone at the start of the fight but once they know what you are running people will start to dodge roll through points to trigger your traps.
You can still destroy people when +1’ing a fight though and you can force everyone off point in team fights.

If you’re decent player on point with settler amu + trap you should win any 1v1 encounters except good necro that transfer conditions.
Because you preload your traps, have loads of chills (frost trap 3 pulse = 18sec chill) and high dmg trough applying huge amount of bleeds and burn very often and pets can crit quite high..
Heck this is probably the anti-elementalist build.
You also grant 242/s regen to nearby allies which is quite valuable for teamfights.
The only real counters 1v1 as far as I know are necro and ranger carion because of condi transfer and carion having more condi dps and more health so condi passive resistanc.Oh yeah absolutely…. I mean, unless they are one of those rare individuals that slot a stun break….

It’s not condi burst it’s condi sustain meaning you apply condi all the time.Your traps are the only thing dangerous about engaging you on point…
Power ranger beats you strictly with LB alone. You will never get a good LB ranger on trap unless you move off point, since they have the mobility to stay away from you. They can happily stand at long range and pew pew you away while you can’t do anything threatening without traps…
While traps are a decent build, it requires fighting 1v1s ON POINT and IN Point blank range… those conditions have to be met in order for a trap ranger to have any kind of success in sPvP…. a class playing from range/midrange like LB ranger ,mesmer , rifle engi, etc, will just dance around in circles at range until you drop since they can see you aren’t going to hurt them without traps…trap does work very nicely in point blank fights thou like thief,guard,warriors, etc
Good teams won’t let you win lol. You may suprise em the first engagement with your taunt/traps but its EASY to play around once you know what you are dealing with….
Which is why i have yet to see any kind of trap ranger at my MMR..It works to an extent, don’t get me wrong, but a skilled player can figure out how to counter it with ease….

It’s not a burst build it’s sustain.
It’s not a point defender build either it’s flexible.
Conclusion you’re kittening troling as usual so go kitten yourself as usual.Traps can be triggered with AI ill give you that but no a longbow is not as useful to a team and are easy to 1v1 because lack of condi removal.
Also quickdraw is the best with sword to kite or catch up with someone running away.
It’s not flexible. You are running with no stun breaks, your stability has a 1 second cast making it very easy to interrupt, you have terrible range pressure/defense and your sub par condi removal is dependent on low hp pets. That means your build is extremely vulnerable to other builds with ranged damage, strong cc, or condi damage. This is why it will work for low ranked PvP but will fail once you start going against more experienced players and organized teams.
Trapper isn’t useless but it’s not good for 1v1’s and it’s not good if you get focused in group fights. It’s basically strong as a hit and run play style, and for dropping on downed players to prevent rez. The only class it is really strong against are thieves but they are currently weak against everyone in 1v1’s.

I say give some classes -the Revenant for instance- a skill that remove stealth, everything in the game got a counter skill except for the stealth!
Are you kidding? I mean even if you are new to the game several people have listed ways to counter and remove stealth in this very thread.
If you’re not in a hurry for moving you honestly should wait until after the HoT release. The top 3 tiers are, IMO, in a terrible state of health and I would think twice before moving a guild there – especially if it is the guilds first move.
T3 once again has the closest match up out of any of the servers and still has a nice buffer between T2 and T4. I’m sure it won’t last forever thanks to the T2 implosion but T3 is very healthy at the moment.
